Home Care in Essex 475 home care agencies · 270 rated Good by CQC

- 29 Requires improvement
- 2 Inadequate
- 174 Not yet rated
Support delivered inside a person's own home is what all 475 home care agencies listed for Essex have in common, though very little else about them is identical. Ratings across that group include Outstanding and Good, alongside agencies rated Requires Improvement and others holding no rating because the Care Quality Commission has not yet inspected them. Essex County Council is responsible for the care needs assessment that establishes what help is required and how often, and for the financial assessment that determines how much of the cost is met from public funds rather than by the family. Either can be requested regardless of income or savings. Because agencies build their rounds around geography, registration in the county is no guarantee that a particular street is covered, so ask that question before anything else. Then open the profile of each agency still under consideration, read the inspection report that lies behind its rating, and let the findings there decide which one you approach first.

Rockview Healthcare Solutions supports people in their own homes in Witham and across Essex. Our starting point is that home is where most people are happiest, and that with sensible support a great many people can stay there far longer than they expect. We support older adults with washing and dressing, medication, meals and the ordinary practical tasks of the week. We support people living with dementia, where a familiar carer arriving at a familiar time is worth more than any amount of paperwork. We also work with adults who have a learning disability or who are autistic, people living with a physical disability, people with a visual or hearing impairment, and younger adults who want support that helps them get on with their own lives. Each arrangement starts with a proper conversation. We agree what would actually help, write it down with the person, and review it as circumstances change, particularly after illness or a stay in hospital. Wherever we can, we keep the same carers going to the same households. Our staff are checked before they start, trained for the tasks they carry out and supported by managers who are available when advice is needed. We keep families informed and raise concerns promptly. If you would like to discuss support at home in the Witham area, please get in touch. We will visit, listen properly and give you a straight answer about what we can arrange and when.

- Home Care
We are Personal Choice Carers At Home, based in Wickford and supporting adults in their own homes across this part of Essex. We support older people and people living with dementia, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, people with a visual or hearing impairment, and younger adults who need help with daily life. In practice that means personal care, support with medication, meals, shopping and housework, help getting out to appointments, and the company that often matters as much as any task on a care plan. The name says what we are trying to do. People tell us how they like things done and we do them that way, rather than arriving with a system of our own. We start by asking what somebody actually wants from us and what they would rather keep doing for themselves, and we revise that as things change. We also try to keep the same small group of workers going to the same person. A familiar face is easier to let into the house, and a worker who knows somebody notices sooner when they are unwell. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to talk.

At All 4U Care, we provide home care support to people living in Frinton on Sea and the surrounding areas of Essex. Our work centres on helping individuals remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes, with the right level of support tailored to their specific needs and wishes. We work with older adults, younger adults, and people living with dementia, and we take the time to understand each person as an individual before any care begins. No two people are the same, and the support we provide reflects that. Whether someone needs companionship and a little help around the home, or more hands on assistance with daily routines, we shape our approach around what matters most to them. Dementia care is an area we give particular attention to. We know how much the home environment can mean to someone living with dementia, and how important it is that familiar faces and consistent routines are maintained. We work closely with families as well as the people we support, keeping communication open and honest throughout. We are proud to have received a rating of Good from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the commitment of our whole team to providing care that is safe, respectful, and genuinely responsive to the people we work with. It is something we do not take for granted, and we continue to look at how we can improve and develop. If you are considering home care for yourself or someone close to you, we would encourage you to get in touch. We are happy to talk things through, answer questions, and help you work out whether we are the right fit. We believe that good care starts with a proper conversation, and we are always glad to have one.

We provide care and support in people's own homes across Colchester and the surrounding parts of Essex. We work with older people, adults living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing mental ill health, adults with physical disabilities, people with visual or hearing impairments, younger adults and people living with eating disorders. That is a wide range, and we take it on deliberately. People often do not fit neatly into a single category, and being turned away because a need falls outside a provider's usual list is a real and frustrating problem for families. We would rather assess properly and be honest about what we can do. Our visits cover personal care, medication, meals, mobility, help at the start and end of the day and support to get out into the community. Where someone is managing an eating disorder or significant mental ill health, we work to the plan set by the clinical team involved and keep to it, because consistency between everyone supporting a person is often the most valuable thing we can add. We protect continuity of staff as far as we can, keep families and professionals properly informed, and raise concerns early rather than waiting for a crisis. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. We are glad to meet, listen to what is actually needed and say plainly whether we are the right fit.

We are the Home Instead office serving Frinton on Sea and the surrounding part of Essex, providing care to people in their own homes. Most of our work is with older people and a great deal of it is with people living with dementia. We also support autistic adults and adults with a learning disability, people managing mental health conditions, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. The rushed visit that satisfies nobody is the thing we most want to avoid. Care takes the time it takes, and what matters most is frequently what cannot be timed, such as noticing that someone has not eaten since yesterday or staying for the conversation that will be the only one they have that day. We put real effort into matching carers to the people they visit, considering temperament and shared interests as well as skills, and then we keep that pairing steady. For someone living with dementia, that familiarity is what stops a day coming apart. We work alongside families, general practitioners and community teams, and we say so plainly when needs have outgrown what home care can safely provide. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding.

Our team at Sadd's Yard provides care and support in people's own homes in Clacton on Sea and across the surrounding part of Essex. We work with older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people living with a mental health condition, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Home care works when it is built around one person's life rather than around a service model. We start with a visit and a conversation about how the day actually runs: when it begins, what still gets done independently, where the difficulties are, who else helps, and what would make the biggest difference. The plan follows from that and is rewritten when circumstances change rather than at a date decided in advance. Continuity matters more than almost anything else we could offer. Being met at the door by someone you know changes the whole experience of receiving personal care, and for anyone living with dementia it prevents distress before it begins. We keep teams small and introduce new carers alongside a familiar colleague. We are also honest with families, including when something has gone wrong. What a provider does on a bad day tells you far more than anything it says on a good one. The Care Quality Commission has not yet issued us an overall rating. If you are looking at care at home locally, please get in touch and we will come out and talk it through.

- Home Care
We provide home care to people in Billericay and across Essex, supporting older people, people living with dementia, people with a physical disability, people with a visual or hearing impairment and younger adults in their own homes. Home care comes down to a series of short windows in somebody's day, and whether those windows help or intrude depends almost entirely on who arrives and how well they understand the household. That is where we put our effort. Before a package starts we sit down with the person and whoever they want present and ask the things that assessments often skip. What do you want to keep doing for yourself. What time does the day really need to begin. What makes a morning go badly. Who should we contact when something changes. Then we build the visits around those answers rather than around our rota, and we keep the same faces going wherever we can. Where sight or hearing is poor we adapt our communication properly and check that aids are working. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, and we would ask people to judge us on how we answer the telephone and how we turn up.

We at Proud To Serve HealthCare are a home care agency based in Chelmsford, Essex, dedicated to supporting people to live safely, comfortably and independently in the place they know best: their own home. Whether you are seeking older person care, dementia support or assistance for a younger adult, our team is here to walk alongside your family every step of the way. Operating across the CM postcode area, we bring care directly to residents throughout Chelmsford and the surrounding communities. This means the familiar surroundings of home, treasured possessions, favourite armchairs and cherished routines can remain at the heart of daily life. For many families, this continuity provides enormous reassurance, allowing loved ones to receive professional support without the upheaval of moving into a residential setting. Our specialisms reflect the diverse needs of the people we support. For older adults, we provide compassionate assistance with the everyday tasks that can become more challenging over time, from personal care and medication prompts to companionship and help around the home. For those living with dementia, we take a patient, person centred approach, focusing on preserving dignity, encouraging familiar routines and offering gentle reassurance during moments of confusion. Our understanding of dementia care means we recognise that no two days are the same, and we adapt with warmth and flexibility. We also support adults living with physical disabilities, helping to promote independence whilst providing the practical assistance needed for a comfortable daily life. For individuals with visual or hearing impairments, our carers are mindful of communication preferences and sensory needs, ensuring every interaction feels respectful and clear. Younger adults living with a range of conditions can also access our support, because we believe good care should never be defined by age alone but by individual goals, aspirations and wishes. For families, choosing home care is often an emotional decision. You want to know that the person entering your loved one’s home will treat them with kindness, patience and genuine respect. We understand this completely. Our approach centres on building trusting relationships, listening carefully to preferences, and delivering care plans shaped around the individual rather than a one size fits all model. Whether the need is for a short daily visit or more comprehensive support, our aim is always to enhance quality of life whilst offering families peace of mind. As a newer provider, Proud To Serve HealthCare has not yet received a CQC rating. Whilst an inspection outcome is not yet available on the public record, we remain fully committed to meeting and exceeding the standards expected of a regulated care provider. We welcome open conversations with prospective clients and their families about our practices, our team and how we work, because trust is built through transparency. If you are exploring home care options in Chelmsford or the wider Essex area, we would be delighted to hear from you. Reach out for a friendly, no pressure conversation about how we might support your loved one to continue living well at home, surrounded by the people, places and memories that matter most.

Essex Community Support and Enabling works with people in their own homes and in the community across Colchester and the surrounding parts of Essex. We support older people and younger adults, including people with a learning disability, autistic people, people living with a mental health condition and people with physical disabilities. Enabling is the important word. Support that is done to somebody, however kindly, tends to take away the independence it claims to protect. So we work alongside people rather than instead of them, we set goals that mean something in real life, and we look for the smallest amount of help that makes something possible. That might be support to get out and take part in something, to manage appointments and money, to keep a household going, to travel independently or to build the confidence to do something without a member of staff alongside. It might equally be practical help with personal care, done in a way that keeps somebody's dignity intact. We plan with people rather than for them, in a form they can actually use, and we expect plans to change when somebody changes their mind. We take communication seriously as the foundation of all of it. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. If you or a member of your family are looking at support in the Colchester area, please get in touch. We are glad to talk through what might help and to be honest about what we would not be the right provider for.

We are Care Package Plus, based in Loughton and supporting adults in their own homes across this part of Essex. We support older people and people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people with a visual or hearing impairment, and younger adults who need help with daily life. The work is practical: help with washing and dressing, support with medication, meals prepared properly, shopping, housework, and a hand getting out of the house. For some people that is one call a day and for others it is several. Because we are guests in somebody's home, they set the terms. We ask how things are usually done and we do them that way rather than arriving with a system of our own. We agree the times that suit and we keep to them, since a late call is no small matter when somebody is waiting to get up or needs their tablets. Wherever we can we send the same small group of workers, because a familiar face is easier to let in. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. Our work centres on helping individuals remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes, with the right level of support tailored to their personal needs and circumstances. We work with older adults who may need a helping hand with daily living, as well as younger adults who require ongoing support to live as independently as possible. Whether someone needs a few hours of assistance each week or more regular involvement throughout the day, we take the time to understand what matters most to each person we work with and build our support around that. Home care, done well, is about more than just completing tasks. It is about genuine human connection, consistency, and treating people with real respect. We make every effort to ensure that the people in our care feel heard and that their preferences guide how we work alongside them. Beaumont House is a home care agency in Walton on the Naze, supporting people in their own homes across this part of Essex. We visit older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, adults who are autistic or have a learning disability, people with mental health needs, people living with a physical disability and people living with sight or hearing loss. Home care enters somebody's private life, and we never treat that lightly. We ask how a person wants their day to run, what they would rather do themselves, what they find intrusive and who else should be kept informed. What our visits cover follows from that. It may be personal care, medication, meals, shopping and appointments, or it may be routine and company, which for some people is exactly what keeps life going. We work hard at consistency. The same small team going to the same household means our workers already know how things are done there, and it means change gets noticed early, which is often what prevents a hospital admission. Rounds are planned with realistic travel time and we telephone if an arrangement has to move. Concerns are taken seriously the first time they are raised, and we will tell you what we have done about them. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We provide older person care for those who value a helping hand with everyday tasks, whilst our dedicated dementia care aims to bring calm, consistency, and gentle reassurance to individuals living with memory loss and their loved ones. Our carers are also experienced in supporting people with physical disabilities, as well as those with visual or hearing impairments, adapting communication and practical assistance to suit each individual. We warmly welcome younger adults too, recognising that meaningful, personalised care is important at every stage of life. In practice, this means families can expect thoughtful, tailored support: help with personal care, medication reminders, meal preparation, mobility assistance, companionship, and the reassurance of a familiar face arriving as arranged. For relatives who live at a distance or juggle busy lives, our involvement can bring peace of mind, knowing a caring professional is checking in regularly and flagging any changes in wellbeing. Delightcare Homes is currently awaiting its first CQC inspection and therefore does not yet have a published rating. Good Life Care provides care and support to people in their own homes in Braintree and across Essex. We work with older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people with a learning disability, people who are autistic, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Everything begins with a visit and a proper conversation. We want to understand how the day goes now, where it has become difficult and what sort of help would be welcome, because unwanted help is worse than none. From that we agree a plan with the person and, if they want them involved, with their family, put it in writing and review it as circumstances change. Visits can cover getting up and settling at night, washing and dressing, prompting or assisting with medication, preparing meals, help around the home, shopping, and getting out to appointments or to see people. We also provide dependable cover for relatives who are caring for somebody themselves. We aim to send the same carers to the same households, because trust takes time and a familiar carer notices when something is not right. Anglian Care at Rankin House provides support at home to adults in Benfleet and across south Essex. The people we visit include older people who need help to carry on living in their own houses, adults living with dementia, people with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, people with a visual or hearing impairment and younger adults who need support to live independently. Those are very different kinds of support and we do not pretend one approach covers them all. For older people and people living with dementia, the priority is usually continuity and reliability: the same carers, arriving when they said they would, allowed enough time to do things properly. For younger adults and people with a learning disability, it is more often about independence, whether that means cooking, handling money, getting to work or college, or keeping up with friends. The practical work covers personal care, support with medication, meals, household tasks, shopping and help to get out and about. Alongside it sits noticing, which appears on no schedule but keeps people out of hospital more often than anything else we do. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you are arranging care at home locally.

We are Caremark covering Southend and Rochford, supporting people in their own homes across the area. We work with older people and people living with dementia, people with a physical disability, and younger adults who need support to manage at home. Everything starts with a visit rather than a price list. We talk with the person, and with family if they want to be involved, about what has become difficult and what kind of help would actually fit their day. The plan comes out of that conversation and gets revised as things change instead of sitting untouched until a review is due. What we provide varies a great deal. It may be a morning call to get somebody washed, dressed and fed. It may be several visits covering personal care, medication, meals and the running of a household. For some people the most valuable part of the visit is simply that a reliable person comes through the door, and we treat that as part of the job rather than an extra. We work at continuity, train carers for the specific work they are sent to do, and keep the office reachable so families are not left chasing. We liaise with district nurses, GPs and social workers. Our most recent CQC overall rating is good. Please ring us to talk things over.

- Home Care
We at Ablecross are proud to provide compassionate home care across Brentwood and the surrounding Essex communities, supporting people to live safely, comfortably, and independently within the place they know best: their own home. Based in the CM postcode area, our team serves families throughout Brentwood and the wider East of England region. Delivering care in the familiar surroundings of a person's own home means every visit is shaped around their routines, their preferences, and the environment they love. From a morning cup of tea in a favourite armchair to an evening walk in a well tended garden, we work alongside the rhythms of daily life rather than disrupting them, offering a genuine alternative to residential care for those who wish to remain at home. Our specialisms reflect the breadth of needs within the community we serve. We support older people who may benefit from a helping hand with everyday tasks, alongside younger adults navigating the transition to independent living. For families affected by dementia, we offer patient, consistent care that prioritises dignity, reassurance, and gentle routine, helping to reduce anxiety and preserve confidence. We also support individuals with learning disabilities and autism, tailoring our approach to communication styles and sensory preferences so that each person feels genuinely understood. For those living with mental health conditions, our carers provide warm, non judgemental support that promotes wellbeing and stability. We assist people with physical disabilities in maintaining mobility, comfort, and choice throughout their day, and we work sensitively with individuals who have visual or hearing impairments, adapting how we communicate to ensure clarity and connection at every visit. In practice, this means care plans built around real lives: help with personal care, medication support, meal preparation, companionship, and the small kindnesses that make a house feel like home. For families, our approach is designed to bring peace of mind. We understand how difficult it can be to know your loved one needs support, and we take time to listen, to answer questions, and to build trust from the very first conversation. Continuity of carers, clear communication, and a genuine relationship with each household are central to how we work. Ablecross has not yet received a rating from the Care Quality Commission, with our most recent inspection recorded in September 2025. As a newer service or one awaiting its first published rating, we welcome open conversations with families about our standards, our team, and the way we deliver care. We are committed to meeting and exceeding the expectations set by the regulator, and we are happy to share information about our policies, training, and safeguarding practices with anyone considering our support. If you are exploring home care options in Brentwood or the surrounding Essex area for yourself or someone you love, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please reach out for a friendly, no obligation conversation, and let us help you understand how thoughtful, personalised care at home could make a real difference.

Nightowls Home Care provides support at home to adults in Colchester and the surrounding part of Essex. We visit older people who need help to carry on living in their own houses, adults living with dementia, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Our visits cover personal care given without rushing, prompting and support with medication, preparing meals, help with laundry, shopping and keeping the home in order, and getting out to appointments or simply out for some air and company. For people living with dementia, staying at home is often the one thing keeping them settled, and that makes continuity essential rather than merely desirable. The same carers arriving at the same times will do more good than anything else we could offer, so we plan rotas around that rather than around convenience. For people with sight or hearing loss we adapt how we announce ourselves and explain what we are doing, because being unable to follow what is happening around you is isolating in a way that is easy to underestimate. We are guests in the homes we work in, and our staff are expected to behave that way. Please get in touch if you are arranging care at home locally.

Gateway Care provides home care to adults in Loughton and the surrounding part of Essex. We support older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autism, and people managing mental health conditions. Our visits cover personal care, medicines, meals, the household, shopping and getting out and about, arranged around the person's day rather than around a rota. We plan the support with the person, keep the visiting team small so faces stay familiar, and review the arrangement when circumstances change. We need to be honest about our inspection position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was requires improvement. We did not welcome that and we are not going to argue with it. The findings gave us a clear list of things to put right, and we have concentrated on exactly those areas: how we record what we do, how we handle medicines, how we check the quality of visits, and how well prepared our care workers are before they start supporting somebody. That work is still under way. If you are weighing us up, ask us directly what has changed and what has not, and we will give you a straight answer rather than a reassuring one.

We are the Home Instead team covering Brentwood, Billericay and Upminster, working from Blackmore and supporting people in their own homes across the area. Our most recent CQC overall rating is outstanding. We are glad of it, though what we would rather be judged on is whether the people we visit are living the way they want to. We support older people and people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, people with a physical disability or a visual or hearing impairment, and younger adults who need help to live independently. Our visits are built to be unhurried. A great deal of what makes home care worth having happens around the practical task rather than in it, in the conversation while the kettle boils or on the walk to the shops, and that does not fit into a rushed quarter of an hour. We give real thought to which carer visits which household and keep those arrangements steady, so a genuine relationship has the chance to build. Every arrangement starts with a proper conversation at home, with family involved if the person wants that. Please call us if you would like to talk about care at home.

Pathways Care Centre supports people in their own homes in Colchester and the surrounding parts of Essex. We work with a range of adults, and the aim is to give people the support they actually need to run their own lives rather than a service that takes over. For older people we help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and drinks, laundry, shopping and keeping the home comfortable, and we help people get out to appointments or simply out of the house. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, where the work is usually about independence: cooking, managing money, using local transport, keeping a job or a course going, and having staff who understand how a person communicates and what makes a day difficult. For people with a physical disability we help with safe moving and with managing at home as independently as possible, and where somebody has sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate and take care not to move things without saying so. Many of the people we support are younger adults, so we plan around study, work and social life. We take time to get to know somebody before making plans, and we involve the people who matter to them where that is wanted. Our staff are trained for the individuals they support. Please get in touch if you would like to talk about support at home here.

Alina Homecare Basildon provides care and support to people in their own homes in Basildon and the surrounding parts of Essex. We work with older people and people living with dementia, with people who have physical disabilities and with younger adults who need support to live independently. Home is where most people would far rather be, and our job is to make that workable for as long as it safely can be. A visit might mean help with washing, dressing and medication first thing, support through the day with meals and mobility, keeping on top of the laundry and the house, or a hand to get out to the shops, the surgery or to see people. Often the part that matters most is having somebody familiar come through the door with time for a proper conversation. For people living with dementia, familiarity is what helps, so we work to send the same carers to the same households and brief them on the person rather than just the tasks. We plan care with the person and their family, write it in plain words and review it as needs change. We are straightforward when we think somebody needs more support than can safely be given at home. The Care Quality Commission has not yet published an overall rating for us. We are registered with them and work to their standards. Please get in touch to arrange a visit.

AQS Homecare Essex provides care and support in people's own homes in Billericay and the surrounding parts of Essex. We take on a broad range of needs, and each arrangement begins with a proper conversation about what the person wants their day to look like. For older people we help with personal care, medication, meals, housework, shopping and getting out and about, and we notice and raise the changes that are easy to overlook. For people living with dementia we keep the same care workers visiting, follow the routine the household already has and avoid moving things about in a home that is known by heart. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, where the emphasis is on independence and on communicating in the way that suits the person, and adults with mental health needs, where reliability and respect do most of the good. We help people with a physical disability to move safely and manage at home, and where there is sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate. We also support people living with eating disorders and people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug dependency. Both ask for consistency and no moralising, and we work alongside the health professionals involved. Younger adults are supported around their own commitments. Our staff are trained for the people they actually visit. Please contact us to discuss support at home here.

We are You Before Me Care, a home care agency in Chelmsford, Essex. We support older people and younger adults in their own homes, including people living with dementia and people with a physical disability. The name is a standard rather than a slogan, and the test of it is whether the arrangement suits the person or suits our rota. We try to make sure it is the former. That starts with asking what an ordinary day looks like and where it has become difficult, and building the visits from those answers instead of offering a standard package and adjusting later. With dementia, the most important detail is usually who comes through the door. A familiar carer makes a visit work where an unfamiliar one, however skilled, may not, and we arrange rotas around that even though it makes our job harder. For people with a physical disability, it is time and detail that count: an unhurried transfer, equipment set up properly, and asking the person how they prefer it done. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

We are Sister Dorothy, and we provide care in people's own homes across Rochford and the surrounding parts of Essex. We support older people, including many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and younger adults. Our aim is straightforward: enough of the right help, at the right times, for somebody to carry on living in their own home. Home holds a great deal that is easy to undervalue until it is at risk. Your own routine, your own kitchen, the neighbours who notice when the curtains stay shut, the right to decide the shape of your own day. Every arrangement begins with a conversation in the person's own home. How does the day run now? What has become difficult? What do you still want to do for yourself, and where would a hand actually help? From those answers we agree the visits, which might be a single short call, several a day, or a longer stretch so that a family carer gets a proper break. We revise the plan as needs move. Support might mean help with washing and dressing, a prompt and a check with medication, a meal cooked and eaten with company, help getting safely about, or assistance with shopping and appointments. We keep carers consistent wherever the rota allows. We have not yet had an overall rating published by the Care Quality Commission. We prefer to say that plainly, and we welcome any question about how we work.

We work with older people and younger adults, with people living with dementia, with people managing mental health conditions, and with people who have physical disabilities or a visual or hearing impairment. People usually come to us because something has shifted. A fall, a spell in hospital, a diagnosis, or the gradual recognition that managing alone has become harder than it was. The question is seldom whether somebody needs help. It is how much, of what sort, and given in what manner so that it feels like support rather than a surrender of independence. Our carers assist with personal care, medication, meals, household tasks and getting out and about, and we build the visits around the day a person already has. We provide care and support to people in their own homes across Chelmsford and the surrounding parts of Essex, working with older people and younger adults, with people living with dementia and with people who have physical disabilities. Staying at home is what most people want, and with the right support in place it is frequently achievable. Our job is to work out what that support genuinely needs to be, which means starting with the day as it is now rather than with a list of options. What has become difficult. What somebody most wants to hold onto. Where a little help would make the difference and where it would simply be interference. From there our carers assist with personal care, medication, meals, household tasks and getting out of the house. We keep the group of carers visiting a household small, because letting somebody into your home is a matter of trust and because familiar staff are the ones who notice when something has changed. When we are worried about a person we say so, to them and to those who need to know. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet received an overall rating. We are happy to answer questions before anything is agreed.

We work with older people and younger adults, with people living with dementia, with people who have learning disabilities and autism, with people managing mental health conditions and with people who have physical disabilities or a visual or hearing impairment. Supporting such a range of people means there is no single way of doing the work. What suits an older person who wants a little help in the morning and otherwise wants to be left alone is not what suits a younger adult building towards greater independence. So each arrangement starts with what the person is trying to achieve, not simply which tasks need covering. Our carers help with personal care, medication, meals, household tasks and getting out into the community. We adapt how we communicate to suit the individual, aim for consistency of carers, and revisit arrangements when circumstances change rather than leaving a plan to go out of date. Divine Care Group supports people in their own homes in Benfleet and across south Essex. We work with older people and younger adults, with people living with dementia and with people who have physical disabilities. Home care is made up of small reliabilities rather than grand claims. Arriving at the time we said. Knowing which neighbour holds the spare key. Remembering that somebody prefers to wash before breakfast rather than after. None of that reads impressively, and all of it decides whether support feels like help or like an intrusion. Our carers assist with personal care, medication, meals, household tasks and getting out of the house, and we build visits around the day a person already has. We keep the group of carers going to each household small, because familiarity is both a comfort and a safeguard. A carer who knows somebody well is the one who notices they are less steady than last week, or eating less, and says something before it becomes urgent. We work with older people and younger adults, with people living with dementia, with people managing mental health conditions or eating disorders, with people affected by alcohol or drug misuse, and with people who have physical disabilities or a visual or hearing impairment. That is a broad range and it reflects the fact that people's lives are rarely tidy. Somebody may be managing a long term health condition while also coming through a difficult period with alcohol, or living with a sensory impairment alongside a mental health condition. We try to look at the whole situation rather than the referral heading, and we plan support with the person rather than for them. We are Magic Helping Hands, based in Chelmsford, and we provide care in people's own homes across Essex. The people we visit are a varied group: older people, many living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic people, adults living with mental ill health, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and younger adults. Because the range is broad, we do not begin from a fixed offer. We begin with the person, in their own home, asking how the day actually runs, what has become difficult, what they want to keep doing themselves, and where help would genuinely help. The support plan comes out of that conversation and is revised as circumstances change. In practice that might mean personal care, a prompt and a check with medication, meals cooked and eaten with company, help getting safely about the house, support to get out to work, college or the shops, or reliable company for somebody who has become isolated. For autistic people especially, predictability matters a great deal, so changes are explained in advance and staffing is kept steady wherever the rota allows. We work at that consistency rather than promising it lightly. A carer who knows a person well is the one who notices early when something has changed. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Ring us if you would like to talk it through.

Hamelin Trust Community Support works with adults in their own homes in Billericay and across Essex. The people we support are mainly younger adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Supporting somebody in their own home is a different job from supporting them anywhere else. It is their space, their routine and their decision how the day runs, and our part is to make the life they have chosen workable rather than to substitute a safer looking version of it. In practice that ranges from personal care and help with health needs to support with cooking, money, the household, getting to college or work, keeping appointments and staying in touch with family and friends. For autistic people and people with a learning disability, how support is delivered matters at least as much as what is delivered. Clear information, staff who stay the same, honest notice before anything changes and real choice about who comes into your home will head off most difficulties before they arise. Where somebody is having a hard time, we look at what is being asked of them rather than treating the person as the problem. Sensory impairment gets the same practical attention, starting with how we communicate. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch to talk things through.

Visits range from a short morning call to longer periods of support through the day. We should be plain with you. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are working through what was raised, focusing on staff supervision, record keeping and making sure that visits are delivered as they are planned and at the times agreed. We would rather say so directly and let you ask us about it than leave you to find out another way. All support starts with a visit and a proper conversation about what is needed and wanted. The plan we write from that is reviewed regularly, and we act quickly when it is not working. If you are considering care at home in the Harlow area, please get in touch.

- Home Care
We provide care in people's own homes in Wickford and across Essex. What we offer is straightforward: the help somebody needs to keep living where they want to live, at the times agreed, from carers they recognise. Most of the people we visit are older and want support with the practical business of the day, from washing and dressing to getting breakfast, taking medication properly and keeping the house in order. We support people living with dementia, where continuity of carer and a settled routine matter more than anything else we could offer. We also work with people who have a physical disability, including safe help with moving and transfers, and with younger adults needing support to live independently. Timekeeping is not a small thing. If somebody needs help to get up, a late call is not an inconvenience, it is an hour of their morning gone, so we plan rotas realistically and tell families when something changes. Care starts with a home visit and a proper conversation about what is needed and what the person would rather manage alone. The plan follows from that and is reviewed as needs change. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please ring if you would like to talk about support at home.

- Home Care
We provide care in people's own homes in Basildon and across Essex. Our purpose is to support people to live where they want to live, with help that arrives when it should and is given by carers they know. The people we support are varied. We visit older people needing help with washing, dressing, meals and medication, and people living with dementia, where familiar carers and steady routines count for a great deal. We support adults who have a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental health conditions, people with a physical disability and people whose sight or hearing is impaired. We also support people living with eating disorders, where mealtimes need patience and a plan agreed with the person and their clinical team, and people working through problems with alcohol or drugs, where consistency and an absence of judgement matter most. Supporting that range properly means thorough briefing before a carer starts with somebody new, and small teams around each person so support stays familiar. Everything begins with a home visit and an honest conversation about what would genuinely help. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch to talk it through.

- Home Care
We provide care at home in Colchester and the surrounding parts of Essex, supporting older adults, people with physical disabilities, and younger adults. For some of the people we see it is a single call in the morning to get the day started safely: help washing and dressing, breakfast, a reminder about tablets, a quick look round to check all is well. For others it is several visits a day. What does not vary is that we are in somebody else's home as a guest, and we behave accordingly. We knock and wait, we ask before moving anything, we put things back where they live, and we do not rearrange a person's home to suit the way we would prefer to work. Before we start we sit down with the person and agree what the support should cover and how they like things done. We write it down, share it with the carers who will be calling, and revisit it properly when things change rather than adding bits on. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission, and we would rather say so plainly. Families are welcome to ask how we recruit, train and check the people we send, and to meet them before any care begins.

Fareni Lifecare provides care at home for people in Braintree and the surrounding parts of Essex. We help with as much or as little as somebody needs, from a short call each day to several visits, and we arrange it around the household rather than asking the household to work around us. Most of our work is with older people. We help with washing and dressing, prompting and support with medication, meals and drinks, laundry, shopping and keeping the home comfortable. We also help people get out of the house, to an appointment, to the shops or simply for some air, and we make time for the conversation that goes with it. For people living with dementia we keep the same care workers going into the same homes wherever the rota allows, work with the routine the household already has and avoid moving things about. A familiar voice at the door takes the anxiety out of a visit before it has begun. For people with a physical disability we help with safe moving and with managing day to day as independently as possible. We also support younger adults, fitting visits around work, study and family life. Our care workers are trained for the people they actually visit. Please ring us to talk it through.

Premald Care supports people across Brentwood and the surrounding part of Essex in their own homes. Our work covers a wide range of needs, and we plan each person's support around their own routines rather than around a standard schedule. We support older people with the everyday tasks that have become harder, and people living with dementia, where a familiar carer and an unhurried pace matter more than anything written down. We work with adults who have a learning disability and with autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people living with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss. We also support younger adults, whose priorities are usually about getting on with ordinary life rather than simply being kept safe indoors. Continuity is what makes home care work. A carer who knows somebody well notices the untouched meal or the flat mood that turns out to be the first sign of something, and that is how problems get caught early. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We regard that as the standard to hold. If you are considering care at home here, ring us and we will be straight with you.

Radis Community Care at Honey Tree Court supports people living in Loughton, Essex, helping them to manage in their own homes with the right help at the right times. We work with older adults, younger adults, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people with loss of sight or hearing, and people living with mental health conditions. What we offer runs from short calls for prompting and safety checks through to several longer visits a day covering personal care, medication, meals and company. We agree it with the person first, and we revisit it when their situation changes rather than leaving a plan to go out of date. Continuity is the thing we protect. A carer who knows somebody arrives as a familiar face rather than an intrusion, and notices quietly when something is not right. That early warning has prevented a great deal of trouble over the years, and it is worth the extra difficulty it creates in building a rota. For people living with dementia, familiar surroundings and a predictable day do more good than anything else we could bring, so we work with the routines already in place. Alina Homecare Brentwood provides care and support in people's own homes around Ingatestone and the wider Brentwood area of Essex. We visit older adults, younger adults, people living with dementia, people with learning disabilities and autistic people, and people living with physical disabilities. The support varies a great deal depending on who we are visiting. For an older person it is often personal care, medication, meals, shopping and company, arranged at the times of day that actually suit them. For a younger adult or somebody with a learning disability it is usually more about enabling than caring, and the measure of success is getting to work or college, running a home and seeing the people they want to see. For people living with dementia we hold hard to routine and to familiar faces. Home is already understood by the person, which is a considerable advantage, and our job is to support the routines that exist rather than to impose new ones. We keep the same small teams with the same people as far as we can, and we revise plans when circumstances shift rather than at fixed intervals. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss support at home.

LCMB Therahealth Homecare provides home care to adults in Colchester and the surrounding part of Essex. We support older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, and people with physical disabilities. Most people contact us for a straightforward reason. They intend to stay in their own home, and a handful of practical difficulties are getting in the way. So those are what we take on: help with washing and dressing, medicines taken as they should be, meals cooked and actually eaten, the housework and the shopping kept under control, and a reliable way of getting out to appointments and to see people. We arrange visits around the person's day rather than around ours, and we would rather agree a pattern we can genuinely keep than an ambitious one that falls apart in the first difficult week. We keep the group of care workers around each person small, because meeting an unfamiliar face at the door unsettles anybody and particularly somebody living with dementia. Where somebody has a physical disability, we agree together how they want to be helped and how much time they actually need. We agree the support with the person and, where they want it, with their family, and we look at the plan again whenever circumstances change rather than leaving it as it was first written.

Ubertas Care Homes provides home care to adults in Waltham Abbey and the surrounding part of Essex. We support older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autism, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, and people who have sight or hearing loss. Everything starts with a conversation about how your day currently runs and where it becomes difficult. From there the visits get built around you. That might be a short call in the morning to help with washing, dressing, medicines and breakfast, or support several times a day covering meals, the household, shopping and getting out and about. We would rather agree something we can reliably deliver than promise a pattern that collapses in the first busy week. Familiar faces make a great deal of difference, particularly for anybody living with dementia or for somebody who finds new people unsettling, so we keep the team around each person as small as we can manage and tell you when it has to change. Where somebody communicates in their own way, or has sight or hearing loss, we learn how they prefer to be approached rather than expecting them to adapt to us. Families often ring us first, worried and unsure where to begin. We are glad to talk it through without obligation.

We provide home care to adults in Benfleet and the surrounding part of Essex, supporting older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, and people with physical disabilities. We come to you, which means our work has to bend around your household rather than the other way round. Depending on what is needed, a visit might cover help with washing and dressing, prompting or giving medicines, cooking a meal and seeing that it is eaten, laundry and tidying, shopping, or support to get out to appointments and to see people. Some visits are short and practical, others are longer, and for some people company is as much the point as the tasks. Before anything starts we agree a plan with you, and with your family if that is what you want. We ask how you like things done, what you would rather manage yourself, what a difficult day looks like and who we should contact if we are worried. Then we revisit that plan when your circumstances change instead of filing it away. For anybody living with dementia and for anybody with mental health needs, steadiness counts for a great deal, so we keep the visiting team small, follow a recognisable routine, and pay attention when somebody seems less well than they were.

Firstpoint Homecare provides home care to adults in Chelmsford and the surrounding part of Essex, supporting older people and younger adults who want to stay in their own homes with some practical help. Our visits are built around the person. That can mean a short call in the morning to help somebody wash, dress and get the day started, prompting or giving medicines, preparing meals and making sure somebody is eating and drinking properly, or help with the household jobs that have become difficult. It can also mean support to get out of the house, to appointments or shops or simply to see people, which is often the part that makes the biggest difference to how somebody feels about their week. Before we start, we sit down and agree what the support should look like, when it should happen, and what you would rather manage yourself. We put that in writing, we keep the team visiting you small so you are not forever meeting strangers, and we change the arrangement when your circumstances change rather than leaving the plan as first drawn up. Arranging and funding home care in Essex
What the assessment establishes
Funding and provider choice are separate decisions, and they are easier taken in that order. A care needs assessment sets out what someone can manage alone, what they cannot, and what support would close the gap, and anyone who appears to need care is entitled to one whatever their savings. Essex County Council carries out that assessment and the financial assessment that follows, and arranges funded support where a person qualifies. The written outcome is useful even to families who expect to pay for everything themselves, because it converts a vague sense that something must change into a specific list of visits and tasks that an agency can quote against. A relative providing unpaid support can ask for a carer's assessment in their own right at the same time.
The cost of an hour
Care at home is priced by the hour, with shorter calls charged proportionately and higher rates usual at weekends, on bank holidays and through the night. Where support is funded, the national means test decides the contribution, and anyone holding capital above the upper threshold arranges and pays for care privately. Funded support may arrive as an arranged service or as a direct payment, which hands you the choice of agency and the shape of the rota. Attendance allowance sits outside the means test altogether and is worth claiming whatever else is in place. Before agreeing a start date, ask for a full rate card in writing, including travel charges, bank holiday rates and the notice period on both sides.
Choosing between home care agencies in Essex
Whether the rounds actually reach the door
An agency registered to work in Essex is not necessarily an agency that will travel to your relative's address, because rounds are built around clusters of clients and travel time between them. Ask about coverage and available time slots in the very first call, since an agency that can only offer a late morning visit when help is needed at seven in the morning is not a real option however well it is rated. Work out in advance how many calls a day are needed, at what times, and what has to happen during each one. That preparation turns a listing of 475 agencies into a shortlist of a few.
Reading an inspection report on an agency
The Care Quality Commission inspects a home care agency as an organisation rather than as a building, so its rating reflects recruitment and training, medication handling, how calls are scheduled and covered, and how complaints are answered. Agencies here hold Outstanding, Good and Requires Improvement ratings, and some carry none at all because they registered too recently to be inspected. An unrated agency is not automatically a weak one, but there is no independent judgement to lean on, so ask harder questions and request references. Where a report exists, the sections on safety and responsiveness usually tell you more than the overall word.
The questions that draw out honest answers
Ask how many different carers will visit across a typical fortnight, because continuity affects daily life more than anything printed in a brochure. Ask what happens when a carer is delayed or off sick, and whether anyone tells the family. Ask how visits are logged, whether relatives can see those records, and how medication support is signed off. Ask how a package can be increased if needs change, and how quickly. An agency confident in its own service answers all of that without hesitation.
Frequently asked questions about home care in Essex
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Essex?
Contact the adult social care team at Essex County Council and ask for a care needs assessment. Anyone who appears to need care and support is entitled to one regardless of income or savings, and you can make the request on a relative's behalf. A practitioner will look at daily tasks, mobility, medication and safety, then set out what support would meet the need. A financial assessment is carried out separately to establish who pays for what.
Will Essex County Council contribute towards home care?
It depends on the outcome of the needs assessment and the financial assessment taken together. Essex County Council applies the national means test, so capital above the upper threshold means funding care privately, while capital below it can bring a contribution towards the cost. Where care is funded, a direct payment is often available so that you can choose the agency yourself rather than accept an arranged service. Attendance allowance is not means tested and can be claimed alongside any of these arrangements.
Which agencies provide home care in Essex?
475 agencies registered to deliver care in people's own homes are listed for Essex. They include national providers running local branches as well as small independent agencies covering only a few towns. Coverage is the first thing to establish, because registration in the county does not guarantee that an agency's rounds reach a particular address. Each entry links to a profile showing the Care Quality Commission rating and the inspection findings behind it.
How does home care compare with moving into a care home?
Home care brings a carer to the door for planned visits while your relative stays in their own house with their routine, neighbours and belongings around them. A residential care home provides accommodation with support available through the day and night, and a nursing home adds registered nurses on site for clinical needs. Home care suits people whose needs fall at predictable points in the day and can be increased gradually as circumstances change. Where someone needs supervision around the clock, a residential setting is usually the more realistic option.
How early should a family start looking for an agency in Essex?
A few weeks is usually enough to compare agencies, arrange an assessment and let a package start gently rather than at full strength. Beginning early leaves room to trial a small number of visits and build on them as needs become clearer. When care is required on discharge from hospital the timescale shrinks to days, and a temporary package may be arranged for you while longer term choices are made. Nothing about that first arrangement is fixed, so treat it as a starting point.
What should I ask an agency before agreeing to a care package?
Ask how many different carers will come in a typical fortnight and whether the same people return, since continuity matters more than almost anything else. Ask how late or missed calls are handled and whether the family is told at the time. Ask how visits are recorded, whether relatives can see the records, and how medication is documented. Ask about minimum call lengths, notice periods and charges for travel or bank holidays, and ask for the answers in writing.
