About Us

Hamelin Trust Community Support works with adults in their own homes in Billericay and across Essex.

The people we support are mainly younger adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment.

Supporting somebody in their own home is a different job from supporting them anywhere else. It is their space, their routine and their decision how the day runs, and our part is to make the life they have chosen workable rather than to substitute a safer looking version of it. In practice that ranges from personal care and help with health needs to support with cooking, money, the household, getting to college or work, keeping appointments and staying in touch with family and friends.

For autistic people and people with a learning disability, how support is delivered matters at least as much as what is delivered. Clear information, staff who stay the same, honest notice before anything changes and real choice about who comes into your home will head off most difficulties before they arise. Where somebody is having a hard time, we look at what is being asked of them rather than treating the person as the problem.

Sensory impairment gets the same practical attention, starting with how we communicate.
