Home Care in Essex 475 home care agencies · 270 rated Good by CQC

Support delivered inside a person's own home is what all 475 home care agencies listed for Essex have in common, though very little else about them is identical. Ratings across that group include Outstanding and Good, alongside agencies rated Requires Improvement and others holding no rating because the Care Quality Commission has not yet inspected them. Essex County Council is responsible for the care needs assessment that establishes what help is required and how often, and for the financial assessment that determines how much of the cost is met from public funds rather than by the family. Either can be requested regardless of income or savings. Because agencies build their rounds around geography, registration in the county is no guarantee that a particular street is covered, so ask that question before anything else. Then open the profile of each agency still under consideration, read the inspection report that lies behind its rating, and let the findings there decide which one you approach first.

    • Home Care

Chandlers Homecare provides care in people's own homes in Epping and the surrounding parts of Essex. Our work is about making home a place where somebody can be properly supported, so that staying put remains a real choice. We support older adults with the things that have become harder over time: personal care, medication, meals, keeping on top of the house and getting out when they want to. We support people living with dementia, where a familiar face arriving at an expected time does more good than any amount of organised activity. We work with people living with mental health conditions, where consistency and a relationship built over time count for a great deal, and with people who have physical disabilities, helping with washing, dressing and mobility in a way that leaves the person directing how it is done. We support people with a visual or hearing impairment, adapting how we announce ourselves and explain what we are about to do, and younger adults, whose support is planned around work, study, family and independence. Wherever the rota allows, the same small group of workers visits each person, because familiar staff notice small changes and because nobody wants to explain themselves afresh each week. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please ring us and ask whatever you need to.

Essex Cares West provides care and support in people's own homes across Harlow and the surrounding area. We work with older adults, younger adults, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities or loss of sight or hearing, and people managing mental health conditions, eating disorders, or difficulties with alcohol and drugs. Covering that range means a template would be useless, so we do not use one. We sit down with the person, find out where help is genuinely needed and what they want their days to look like, and build the visits from there. Where somebody is living with an eating disorder, mealtime support calls for particular patience rather than ordinary prompting. Where somebody is working through difficulties with alcohol or drugs, turning up reliably and without judgement does more good than any technique. A good many people in those situations have been let down before. We keep the same carers with the same households wherever the rota allows. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch to discuss support.

    • Home Care

I and S Care is a home care agency in Colchester, supporting adults in their own homes across the town and the surrounding area. We work with older people and younger adults, and with adults who have a learning disability and autistic adults. The support varies a good deal between those groups. For an older person it is often personal care, medication and help with the parts of the day that have become difficult. For a younger adult it is more often about independence: cooking, managing money, keeping appointments, getting out and holding on to a tenancy. Where the aim is independence, the measure of success is usually that somebody needs less from us over time. That is worth saying because it runs against the commercial grain, and it is easy for an agency to settle quietly into doing things for people because it is quicker. We plan support with each person in language they can follow, keep the visiting team small so people are known, and revisit the plan when circumstances change rather than filing it away. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are arranging support at home in the Colchester area, please get in touch and we will talk through what would genuinely help, including whether somebody else would suit you better.

    • Home Care

Essex Domiciliary Care, part of the Royal Mencap Society, supports people in their own homes in Witham and the surrounding parts of Essex. Much of our work is with adults who have a learning disability or autism. There what helps most is communication suited to the individual, a routine that can be relied upon and support that builds skills and confidence rather than quietly replacing them. We take the time to understand how somebody prefers to be approached and what they are trying to tell us, including when that is not said in words. Where a person has goals of their own, whether that is cooking a meal unaided, using public transport or getting into work or education, we plan support that draws back as they grow into it. We also support older adults who need help with the everyday things that have become harder, including personal care, medication, meals and getting about safely, and younger adults, whose weeks are usually built around work, study, family or plans of their own. We keep the team around each person as small and consistent as we can manage, because familiarity makes this kind of support workable. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us and ask us in detail how we would approach things.

People living with dementia, where familiarity and patience are worth more than anything else. We work with older adults, younger adults, people living with dementia, people with learning disabilities and autistic people, people with physical disabilities or loss of sight or hearing, and people managing mental health conditions. That is a wide remit and it only works if we start by listening. No two of these situations call for the same response, so we sit down with the person, find out what they want their days to look like and where help is genuinely needed, and build the visits from there. The support might be personal care, medication, meals, shopping, getting out of the house, or simply company for somebody who lives alone and sees very few people. For those living with dementia we build on the routines that already exist at home rather than introducing our own. We keep the same carers with the same households as far as the rota allows, because familiarity is what makes the arrangement comfortable rather than intrusive. • Home Care

Papa Home Care provides care and support in people's own homes in Chelmsford and the surrounding area. We are here for people who want to carry on living in their own place and need some help to make that safe and manageable. Most of our work is with older adults. Depending on what somebody needs, that can be a brief call to help with getting up, washing, dressing and medication, help with meals, shopping and household tasks, or longer visits for people who need closer support and company through the day. We ask what a person actually wants rather than handing them a standard package, and we would sooner change an arrangement that has stopped suiting them than leave it running because it was what we first agreed. We also support younger adults who need care at home. Their days tend to be shaped by work, study, family or their own plans, and support should fit around those things instead of becoming the main event. We keep the number of different workers visiting each person as small as we can, because familiarity lets people relax and lets us notice when something has changed. We do not currently hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. Please get in touch with any questions.

We work with older adults, younger adults, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people with loss of sight or hearing, and people managing mental health conditions. Home care depends on three things going right. The visits have to arrive when they were promised. The person coming through the door has to be somebody the household knows. And the plan has to reflect what is needed now rather than what was agreed when we first met. We concentrate on those, because nearly everything that goes wrong in this work comes from one of them slipping. The support ranges from short prompting calls to several longer visits a day covering personal care, medication, meals, company and getting out of the house. For people living with dementia we build on the routines that already exist at home. For people with sensory loss we adapt how we communicate and how we announce ourselves. Calls range from a short morning visit through to several a day, covering personal care, medication, meals, help to move about the home safely, shopping, appointments and company. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet been given an overall rating. We would rather set that out here than have a family come across it later, and we would encourage anyone considering us to meet the manager and ask for references. A great deal of the value in regular visits lies in what a familiar person notices. Post building up, a fridge emptier than it should be, a friend who has stopped being mentioned, somebody steady at the start of the week and unsteady by the end of it. We expect our care workers to pass that on rather than finish the notes and move to the next call. If you are arranging care at home locally, please get in touch.

    • Home Care

SRP Homecare provides care and support in people's own homes across Colchester and the surrounding part of Essex. We work with older adults, younger adults, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, and people managing mental health conditions. Home care depends on three things going right. The visits have to arrive when they were promised. The person coming through the door has to be somebody the household knows. And the plan has to reflect what is needed now rather than what was agreed when we first met. We concentrate on those three, because nearly everything that goes wrong in this work comes from one of them slipping. The support ranges from short prompting calls to several longer visits a day covering personal care, medication, meals, company and getting out of the house. Where somebody is managing a mental health condition, consistency and predictability usually matter more than the specific tasks. For people living with dementia we build on the routines that already exist at home. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss support at home in Colchester.

We provide care at home in Colchester and the surrounding parts of Essex. Those we support include older adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, younger adults and people affected by alcohol or drug use. A range this wide means manner counts as much as skill. Several of the people we support have been judged rather than helped in the past, and a carer who arrives with views about how somebody came to need support is worse than useless to them. We recruit and supervise with that in mind. A range this wide also means planning one household at a time. Keeping an older person safe at home and helping a young autistic adult run their own flat are different trades needing different carers. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask the people we support how we are doing and give the awkward answers more weight than the generous ones, because only those change anything.

    • Home Care

Care Quality South Essex is a home care agency based in Basildon, supporting adults in their own homes across the area. We work with older people and younger adults, including people with a physical disability. What happens on a visit depends on the person. For some it is help to wash, dress and get the day started, which is enough to make the rest of the day manageable. For others it is several calls covering medication, meals, help to move safely about the house, shopping and getting to appointments. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet been given an overall rating. We prefer to say that openly and would encourage anyone considering us to meet the manager and ask for references. Our view is that care at home should fit around a life that already exists rather than replace it. People have their own routines and firm opinions about what they want help with and what they would rather keep doing themselves, even when it takes longer. We ask first, agree the detail and write it down in ordinary language so nobody is guessing. If you are arranging support at home in south Essex, please get in touch and we will come out and discuss it.

Mayfair Care Services provides care and support in people's own homes across Canvey Island and the surrounding part of Essex. We work with older adults, younger adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities or loss of sight or hearing, and people managing mental health conditions. That is a wide remit and it only works if we start by listening. No two of these situations call for the same response, so we sit down with the person, find out what they want their days to look like and where help is genuinely needed, and build the visits from there. It takes longer at the outset and saves a great deal of trouble later. The support might be personal care, medication, meals, shopping, getting out of the house, household tasks, or simply company for somebody who lives alone and sees very few people. We keep the same carers with the same households as far as the rota allows. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us to talk about support in Essex.

    • Home Care

Shaftesbury East Anglia provides support to younger adults and to people living with physical disabilities in their own homes around Ingatestone and the surrounding part of Essex. The point of our work is an ordinary life rather than a managed one. Support for somebody in their twenties or thirties is rarely about managing decline. It is about getting to work or college, keeping a home running, managing money and appointments, seeing friends, and handling the parts of daily life that are genuinely difficult. We do those parts and leave the rest alone, even when doing it ourselves would be quicker, because taking over is easy and hard to undo. Where personal care is needed we provide it thoroughly and without fuss, and we work with GPs and community teams where specialist input helps. We match staff to people with care and keep those teams small and consistent, because the relationship is where the value lies. A support worker who understands somebody can tell when something is wrong long before it becomes a crisis. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Diamond Unique Care provides care and support in people's own homes across Harlow and the surrounding part of Essex. We work with older adults, younger adults, people living with dementia, and people living with physical disabilities. Our purpose is to make staying at home a realistic option when daily life has become hard to manage alone. The help covers washing and dressing, medication, meals and drinks, shopping, getting out to appointments, household tasks and company. What the visits actually look like depends entirely on the person, so we ask rather than assume. Reliability is what everything rests on. Somebody waiting to be helped out of bed cannot do anything else in the meantime, so we plan rotas so that calls arrive when we said they would, and we would sooner take on less work than accept more than we can cover. For people living with dementia we lean on familiarity: the same carer, at a familiar time, in surroundings the person already understands. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us to talk about support in Harlow.

Canters Meadow Court provides care and support to people in their own homes in Clacton on Sea and the surrounding area. We are here for people who want to carry on living in their own place and need some help to make that safe and manageable. Most of our work is with older adults. Depending on what somebody needs, that can be a short call to help with getting up, washing, dressing and medication, help with meals, shopping and keeping the house in order, or longer visits for people who need closer support and company through the day.

Iris Care provides home care to older people living in and around Canvey Island. We do one thing, and we would rather do it well than spread ourselves across everything. What we offer is help at home for older adults who are finding daily life harder than it used to be. That covers washing and dressing, prompting and administering medication, preparing meals and seeing that they are actually eaten, shopping, laundry, getting out to appointments, and the general practical business of keeping a household going. It also covers company, which is frequently the part that matters most to somebody living alone. We arrange visits around the day the person wants to have rather than the day that suits a rota. Where we cannot do something, we say so plainly rather than promising and then disappointing. We keep the same small group of carers going to the same people. A carer who knows somebody notices the missed meals, the new bruise or the unusual confusion long before anybody else would. Please get in touch if you would like to talk about support at home.

We visit older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. A visit might be half an hour to help somebody wash, dress and get started, or it might be several calls through the day covering medication, meals, safe movement around the house and company. Some people need us for a few weeks after an illness; others rely on us for years. Our starting point is always how the person already manages. Most people have their own way of doing things and their own order of priorities, and care that ignores that tends to take away more than it gives. We agree what help is wanted, write it down in plain language and revisit it when circumstances change. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet been given an overall rating. We would rather say so plainly and let you judge us on the practical things: whether we turn up when we said, whether the same faces come back, and whether somebody answers the phone when a family needs to talk. Oxana Care provides care and support in people's own homes in Sudbury and the surrounding area. Our approach is to build support around the individual rather than to offer a fixed package and expect people to fit it. We support people living with dementia, where familiarity and an unhurried manner do more good than anything else we could offer, and adults with a learning disability or autism, where communication suited to the person, a dependable routine and support that builds skills rather than replacing them make the greatest difference. We work with people living with mental health conditions, where a steady, trusting relationship and staff who notice early changes matter most. Most of the people we support are younger adults, whose weeks are built around work, study, family or plans of their own, and whose support should fit around those things rather than take them over. Practically, our support can include help with personal care, medication, meals, managing a household, appointments and taking part in ordinary life outside the front door. We are Care Plus Essex, part of Manorcourt Care, and we support adults in their own homes in Saffron Walden and across the surrounding parts of Essex. Our visits range from a single short call each day through to several hours of support, arranged to fit the person's routine rather than our convenience. We help older people with washing and dressing, medication, meals, shopping and the household jobs that become harder with time. We support adults living with dementia, where the same familiar care workers arriving at predictable times do more good than anything else we can offer. We also support people living with mental ill health, where a routine that holds and a dependable presence can matter as much as any clinical input, people with physical disabilities, taking care over equipment and over how somebody prefers to be assisted, and people living with sight or hearing loss. Some of those we support are younger adults working towards greater independence. This is a rural part of Essex, so we plan our rounds around geography as well as need, and if we are delayed we ring rather than leaving somebody watching the window. • Home Care

We are Matti Care, and we support adults in their own homes in Harlow and the surrounding parts of Essex. What we offer is straightforward: dependable visits from care workers who know you, at times that suit your day. Most of our work is with older people who want to carry on living at home and need a hand with the everyday business of getting through the day. That means help with washing and dressing, medication taken on time, a proper meal cooked, the shopping fetched, the laundry done, and getting out to appointments or into town with some company on the way. Company matters as much as the tasks. Loneliness does real harm, and a care worker who sits down for a cup of tea, looks at the photographs and remembers what was said last week is doing something genuinely useful. We also support younger adults who need help to run their own household and want that help to reduce over time. We visit and talk before anything begins, we agree what the calls are for and what must not be missed, and we keep the rota as steady as we can so that people know who is coming. Our care workers are recruited with full checks and trained before working alone. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission. Please ring us.

A visit may involve personal care, support with medication, preparing meals, help with mobility and moving safely about the home, household tasks and shopping, company, or support to get out to appointments and to see people. Some clients need one short call a day and others need support several times over. We assess with the person and anyone they want involved, agree plainly what is needed, write it down and review it when circumstances change. Keeping the same carers with the same clients is a priority for us, and it matters most for people living with dementia, where a recognised face at the door is worth more than any amount of explaining. We work with older people and younger adults, with people living with dementia, with people who have a learning disability, with autistic people, with people who have mental health needs, with people who have physical disabilities and with people who have sight or hearing loss. With needs that varied, we plan support one person at a time rather than offering a fixed package. We begin by listening to the person and anyone they want present, work out what the day and the week actually need to look like, and write the plan around that. It may be a brief daily call, support with personal care, medication, meals and mobility, help with household tasks and shopping, or support to get out and keep up work, study or an activity that matters. Plans are reviewed when circumstances change, and we ask clients and families to tell us plainly when something is not working so we can put it right quickly. We keep the same small team visiting each person wherever we can, and our carers are trained for the particular needs of the people they see. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. The better measure is whether our clients feel safe, respected and in control at home.

    • Home Care

Aboutme Care provides care and support to people in their own homes in Maldon and across Essex. We work with older people, younger adults, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. The name says what we are trying to do. Support should be about the person receiving it, built from their own account of what is difficult rather than from a standard list. We visit first, take our time over that conversation, and include family or an advocate whenever somebody wants them there. What we provide ranges from short calls for personal care and medication through help with meals, housework, laundry and shopping to getting out to appointments and simple company for people whose days have become very quiet. We review the arrangement as needs change rather than leaving it to drift. We keep the team around each person small, and we introduce new support workers properly instead of sending somebody unannounced. For people living with dementia and for those who cannot see or hear well, a familiar voice at the door and an unhurried manner make more difference than anything else. Our care staff are trained for the people they actually visit, including moving and handling where it is needed, and we would rather give them enough time to do the job than squeeze in another call. If you would like to talk about support in the Maldon area, please give us a ring and we will arrange to come out.

    • Home Care

Sylyve Home Care Basildon provides care and support to people in their own homes in Basildon and the surrounding part of Essex. We work with older people, younger adults, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Most people come to us because something at home has become harder than it was, and they want help that makes staying there possible rather than a move nobody has chosen. We try to provide exactly that and no more, because doing things for somebody that they can still manage takes something away from them. Everything starts with a visit and an unhurried conversation. What does the day look like now, what has become difficult, and what would the person rather keep doing for themselves. From that we agree who comes, when and what they do, with family or an advocate involved whenever the person wants them there. Visits cover personal care, help with medication, meals and drinks, housework and laundry, shopping, getting to appointments, and company for people whose days have grown very quiet. For those living with dementia we keep the same small team visiting and work at their pace. Where sight or hearing is affected we think about how we announce ourselves and explain what we are doing. We are strict about timekeeping, because waiting in for somebody who does not arrive as promised is genuinely distressing. Please give us a ring if you would like to talk about support in the Basildon area.

    • Home Care

We are a home care agency in Chelmsford, providing support to people in their own homes across Essex. We work with older people, with younger adults and with people living with dementia. Our view is that care at home works best when it is built around the person's existing life rather than imposed on top of it. So we begin by asking what somebody finds difficult and what they would like to keep doing for themselves. The answer might be help getting up, washed and dressed in the morning, support with medication, a hand with meals and shopping, or someone to accompany them to appointments. For people living with dementia it is often as much about reassurance and familiarity as about any particular task, and that depends on carers who know the person's history and habits. We try hard to send the same carers to the same homes. It spares people from explaining themselves repeatedly, and it means somebody is likely to notice when a person is unwell, in pain or low in spirits. Our carers are trained for the needs they are asked to meet and have senior staff they can turn to. We do not yet hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. We are happy to discuss that with anyone thinking of using us. If you are considering care at home for yourself or a relative, do get in touch and we will be straight with you about what we can provide.

    • Home Care

We are a home care agency based in Basildon, providing support to people in their own homes across Essex. We work with older people and with younger adults. Our part is a practical one. People come to us when managing at home has become harder than it was, often after a fall, a stay in hospital or a gradual change that has caught up with them. We arrange visits at the times that suit, helping with washing and dressing, support with medication, meals, shopping and housework, and assistance to get out of the house and to appointments. Where somebody needs more, we arrange more frequent calls, and where needs change we review the plan rather than leaving it as first agreed. What people really judge an agency on is whether carers arrive when they said they would and whether it is the same faces each week. We work at both. A carer who knows somebody will notice when they are unwell, in pain or unusually quiet, and the person is spared explaining themselves over and over. Our staff are trained for the needs they are asked to meet and have senior colleagues they can turn to. We do not yet hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission and are happy to discuss that with anyone considering us. If you are looking into care at home, do get in touch for an honest conversation about what we can provide.

We provide care at home in Brentwood and the surrounding parts of Essex. Those we support include older adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, and younger adults. We plan each person's support individually, because that range describes lives with very little in common beyond needing a hand with something. Helping an older person stay safely at home and helping a young autistic adult manage their own flat are genuinely different jobs, needing different carers, and a service that pretends otherwise does neither well. The question families ask first is whether we will actually turn up, and they are right to. We keep rounds realistic, decline work we cannot staff, and give notice when something must change. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission, and we would rather say so plainly than write around it. Until we have one, families are welcome to ask how we recruit, train and check the carers we send, to meet them before any care begins, and to judge us on what they actually find.

We accept what was identified and we are working through it. We are not going to claim in a paragraph that everything is resolved, because that would not be honest. What we would ask is that anybody considering us asks us directly and presses for specifics: what was found, what has changed, and what is still in hand. We would also encourage people to speak to those we already visit, since their account of us is worth considerably more than ours.

We provide care at home in Clacton On Sea and the surrounding parts of Essex. Those we support include older adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, and people with physical disabilities. Our help covers personal care, medication, meals, shopping and keeping a household running, alongside the company a regular caller brings. We aim it at what has genuinely become difficult and leave alone what the person would rather keep managing themselves, because doing everything for somebody is quicker today and costs them ability over the months. With dementia, continuity does most of the work. The same carer at the same time, doing things in the same order, in a home where nothing has been moved, makes a real difference to how somebody copes. For autistic adults and people with learning disabilities we are careful to be exactly where we said, at the time we said, doing what was agreed. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask the people we visit what they think of us and act on the critical answers rather than the polite ones.

We provide care at home in Chelmsford and the surrounding parts of Essex. Those we visit include older adults, people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and younger adults. Families usually find us at a difficult point, after a fall or a hospital discharge or a slow accumulation of worry. What we try to offer first is clarity rather than reassurance: what we can provide, how often, what it costs, and what we honestly cannot do. A comfortable answer that collapses in a month is worse than a blunt one now. After that the work is unglamorous and depends on organisation. The same faces where possible, notes read before arriving, and enough time in each visit that nobody is hurried through being washed. We aim our help at what has genuinely become hard and leave alone what somebody would rather keep managing. Kindness is how independence usually gets eroded, one helpful act at a time. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We treat it as the floor we build on, and we would rather hear about a small problem the week it happens than a serious one later.

    • Home Care

We at MTIMA Care in Colchester are proud to offer compassionate home care across Essex and the wider CO postcode area, supporting individuals who wish to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes. As a dedicated home care provider, we bring professional support directly to your loved one's doorstep. Operating throughout Colchester and the surrounding communities, our team travels to each person we support, meaning there is no unfamiliar building to adjust to and no disruption to daily routines. Care is delivered within the four walls your loved one knows best, whether that is a family home, a bungalow, or a flat. This community based approach allows us to work in harmony with neighbours, local healthcare professionals, and family members who live nearby. Our specialisms cover a broad spectrum of needs, ensuring that we can be a consistent presence through changing circumstances. We support older people who value their independence but benefit from a helping hand with daily living, and we provide dedicated dementia care that focuses on gentle routine, patience, and preserving dignity. For those living with mental health conditions, we offer sensitive, non judgemental support that promotes wellbeing and stability. We also assist adults with physical disabilities, helping with mobility and personal care in ways that respect autonomy, and we extend our care to younger adults whose needs may differ from traditional home care recipients but who equally deserve tailored, respectful support. In practical terms, this means families can trust that if a loved one's needs evolve, whether through the progression of dementia, a change in mobility, or fluctuations in mental health, our team is equipped to adapt alongside them. You will not need to search for a new provider each time circumstances shift. Instead, we aim to be a steady, familiar presence, offering continuity that reassures both the person receiving care and the relatives who love them. As a newer presence on the Care Quality Commission register, MTIMA Care is currently awaiting its first formal inspection rating. Whilst we do not yet have a published CQC judgement to share, we remain fully regulated and committed to meeting the standards expected of every registered provider in England. We welcome open conversations with families about our approach, our staff training, and the values that guide our daily work. Choosing care for someone you love is never a small decision, and we understand the weight of that responsibility. If you are exploring home care options in Colchester or the surrounding Essex area, we warmly invite you to get in touch. We would be glad to listen to your family's situation, answer your questions honestly, and explore whether our support might be the right fit for the person in your care.

Lehope Care provides home care to people in Harlow and across Essex. We support older people, people living with dementia, autistic adults and adults with a learning disability, people managing mental health conditions, people with a physical disability and younger adults. Most enquiries reach us at a difficult moment, often after a fall or when an arrangement a family has been holding together has finally stopped working. The first useful thing we can do is take the pressure down and work out what is genuinely needed, which is sometimes less than people fear and sometimes rather more than they have been willing to admit. From there we build the visits around the person rather than around our rota, asking what time they actually want to get up, which tasks they want to keep doing themselves, what makes a morning go badly and who should be contacted when something changes. We keep the same carers visiting the same households wherever we can, because a familiar face does work that no amount of training can replace. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Fona Godema is a home care agency in Basildon, supporting people in their own homes across this part of Essex. We work with older people, people living with dementia, people living with mental ill health, adults with a physical disability and younger adults. Almost everyone who contacts us wants to stay where they are, and the question is really what it would take to make that workable. For some people the answer is modest, a single morning call to help with washing and dressing and getting the day going. For others it is several visits a day covering personal care, medication, meals and company, or a longer sit so a family carer can have a few hours to themselves. We start by asking what help is actually wanted. People are usually very clear about what they can still manage and would rather keep doing for themselves, and respecting that is as much the job as the tasks we take on. Care plans follow that conversation rather than a standard form, and we review them properly when circumstances change. Continuity is where we put our effort. A familiar carer who knows the house, the routine and the person makes a visit work in a way that a stranger cannot, and it matters most where dementia or poor mental health are involved. We keep families informed where the person wants that, and we raise concerns early rather than waiting. Please ring us if you would like to talk things through.

Bamburgh Supported Living supports people in their own homes in Colchester and across this part of Essex. We work with adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental ill health and younger adults. In supported living the aim is somebody's own life, not a placement. Support is planned around what each person wants to be able to do, and we keep asking whether we are helping more than is wanted, because independence slips away quietly if nobody is protecting it. For some people that means cooking, budgeting and getting to work or college. For others it means managing a tenancy, keeping appointments and having somebody reliable who turns up. We learn how each person communicates, including those who use little or no speech, and we adapt to them rather than the reverse. Predictability, noise and sensory needs all affect how a day goes, and we treat those as part of the support rather than as detail. Where mental ill health is part of the picture, we work closely with community teams and raise concerns early. Reliability matters more than anything here. Somebody who turns up, who knows the person, who does not make a fuss on a bad day and does not disappear on a good one. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Care Expert is a home care agency in Maldon, supporting people in their own homes across this part of Essex. We work with older people, people living with dementia, people living with mental ill health, adults with a physical disability, people with visual or hearing impairment and younger adults. Care at home lives or dies on detail. Arriving when you said you would. Knowing that somebody needs a minute to reach the door. Remembering which tablets go with food and which chair is the one they always use. None of it is remarkable on its own, but together it is the difference between support that genuinely helps and support that wears a person down. Our visits cover personal care, prompting and assisting with medication, meals, help around the house and getting out to appointments or into town. Some people need us briefly while they recover. Others have been with us a long time, and in those cases the relationship counts as much as the tasks. We work hard at sending the same carers to the same people. Where someone lives with dementia or has reduced sight or hearing, a familiar voice and a predictable visit are what make the arrangement work at all. We keep families informed where the person wants that, and we flag anything that concerns us promptly. Please get in touch if you would like to talk things through.

We are GoodOaks Homecare in East Herts, and we provide care at home for people living in and around Bishop's Stortford. Our visits take place in people's own houses and flats, which is where most of those we support would much rather be. We work with older adults, people living with dementia, adults with a physical disability and younger adults. The help itself can be quite practical: assistance with washing and dressing, support with medication, preparing a meal, a hand with shopping or laundry, or support to get to an appointment. It can also be simpler than that. Sometimes the most valuable half hour of the week is the one where somebody sits down and talks. For anybody living with dementia we try hard to keep visits consistent in time and in staffing, because familiarity does more good than almost anything else. We also know how much weight falls on family carers, and we are glad to be the reason somebody gets an afternoon to themselves. Everything we do is agreed with the person at the outset and reviewed as things change. If the care is not right, we want to know quickly. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet received an overall rating. If you are thinking about care at home around Bishop's Stortford, please contact us for a conversation with no obligation attached.

ECL North Essex supports people in their own homes across Colchester and the surrounding area. We work with older people, people living with dementia, people living with mental ill health, adults with a physical disability, people with visual or hearing impairment and younger adults. Home care should fit into a life that already exists rather than rearrange it. We begin by asking how the day usually runs, what has become difficult and what somebody can still do perfectly well and would rather keep doing. Plans written that way tend to stick, and they make the support feel like help rather than intrusion. Our visits cover personal care, support with medication, meals, help around the house and getting out to appointments or into town. A good deal of our work also involves helping people regain what they can do for themselves after illness or a spell in hospital, which is slower in the moment than taking over and worth far more in the end. Continuity is where we concentrate our effort. A familiar carer who knows the house, the routine and the person is worth more than any amount of paperwork, and that matters most where dementia or reduced sight and hearing are involved. Arranging and funding home care in Essex

What the assessment establishes

Funding and provider choice are separate decisions, and they are easier taken in that order. A care needs assessment sets out what someone can manage alone, what they cannot, and what support would close the gap, and anyone who appears to need care is entitled to one whatever their savings. Essex County Council carries out that assessment and the financial assessment that follows, and arranges funded support where a person qualifies. The written outcome is useful even to families who expect to pay for everything themselves, because it converts a vague sense that something must change into a specific list of visits and tasks that an agency can quote against. A relative providing unpaid support can ask for a carer's assessment in their own right at the same time.

The cost of an hour

Care at home is priced by the hour, with shorter calls charged proportionately and higher rates usual at weekends, on bank holidays and through the night. Where support is funded, the national means test decides the contribution, and anyone holding capital above the upper threshold arranges and pays for care privately. Funded support may arrive as an arranged service or as a direct payment, which hands you the choice of agency and the shape of the rota. Attendance allowance sits outside the means test altogether and is worth claiming whatever else is in place. Before agreeing a start date, ask for a full rate card in writing, including travel charges, bank holiday rates and the notice period on both sides.

Choosing between home care agencies in Essex

Whether the rounds actually reach the door

An agency registered to work in Essex is not necessarily an agency that will travel to your relative's address, because rounds are built around clusters of clients and travel time between them. Ask about coverage and available time slots in the very first call, since an agency that can only offer a late morning visit when help is needed at seven in the morning is not a real option however well it is rated. Work out in advance how many calls a day are needed, at what times, and what has to happen during each one. That preparation turns a listing of 475 agencies into a shortlist of a few.

Reading an inspection report on an agency

The Care Quality Commission inspects a home care agency as an organisation rather than as a building, so its rating reflects recruitment and training, medication handling, how calls are scheduled and covered, and how complaints are answered. Agencies here hold Outstanding, Good and Requires Improvement ratings, and some carry none at all because they registered too recently to be inspected. An unrated agency is not automatically a weak one, but there is no independent judgement to lean on, so ask harder questions and request references. Where a report exists, the sections on safety and responsiveness usually tell you more than the overall word.

The questions that draw out honest answers

Ask how many different carers will visit across a typical fortnight, because continuity affects daily life more than anything printed in a brochure. Ask what happens when a carer is delayed or off sick, and whether anyone tells the family. Ask how visits are logged, whether relatives can see those records, and how medication support is signed off. Ask how a package can be increased if needs change, and how quickly. An agency confident in its own service answers all of that without hesitation.

Frequently asked questions about home care in Essex

How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Essex?

Contact the adult social care team at Essex County Council and ask for a care needs assessment. Anyone who appears to need care and support is entitled to one regardless of income or savings, and you can make the request on a relative's behalf. A practitioner will look at daily tasks, mobility, medication and safety, then set out what support would meet the need. A financial assessment is carried out separately to establish who pays for what.

Will Essex County Council contribute towards home care?

It depends on the outcome of the needs assessment and the financial assessment taken together. Essex County Council applies the national means test, so capital above the upper threshold means funding care privately, while capital below it can bring a contribution towards the cost. Where care is funded, a direct payment is often available so that you can choose the agency yourself rather than accept an arranged service. Attendance allowance is not means tested and can be claimed alongside any of these arrangements.

Which agencies provide home care in Essex?

475 agencies registered to deliver care in people's own homes are listed for Essex. They include national providers running local branches as well as small independent agencies covering only a few towns. Coverage is the first thing to establish, because registration in the county does not guarantee that an agency's rounds reach a particular address. Each entry links to a profile showing the Care Quality Commission rating and the inspection findings behind it.

How does home care compare with moving into a care home?

Home care brings a carer to the door for planned visits while your relative stays in their own house with their routine, neighbours and belongings around them. A residential care home provides accommodation with support available through the day and night, and a nursing home adds registered nurses on site for clinical needs. Home care suits people whose needs fall at predictable points in the day and can be increased gradually as circumstances change. Where someone needs supervision around the clock, a residential setting is usually the more realistic option.

How early should a family start looking for an agency in Essex?

A few weeks is usually enough to compare agencies, arrange an assessment and let a package start gently rather than at full strength. Beginning early leaves room to trial a small number of visits and build on them as needs become clearer. When care is required on discharge from hospital the timescale shrinks to days, and a temporary package may be arranged for you while longer term choices are made. Nothing about that first arrangement is fixed, so treat it as a starting point.

What should I ask an agency before agreeing to a care package?

Ask how many different carers will come in a typical fortnight and whether the same people return, since continuity matters more than almost anything else. Ask how late or missed calls are handled and whether the family is told at the time. Ask how visits are recorded, whether relatives can see the records, and how medication is documented. Ask about minimum call lengths, notice periods and charges for travel or bank holidays, and ask for the answers in writing.
