About Us

Essex Domiciliary Care, part of the Royal Mencap Society, supports people in their own homes in Witham and the surrounding parts of Essex.

Much of our work is with adults who have a learning disability or autism. There what helps most is communication suited to the individual, a routine that can be relied upon and support that builds skills and confidence rather than quietly replacing them. We take the time to understand how somebody prefers to be approached and what they are trying to tell us, including when that is not said in words. Where a person has goals of their own, whether that is cooking a meal unaided, using public transport or getting into work or education, we plan support that draws back as they grow into it.

We also support older adults who need help with the everyday things that have become harder, including personal care, medication, meals and getting about safely, and younger adults, whose weeks are usually built around work, study, family or plans of their own.

We keep the team around each person as small and consistent as we can manage, because familiarity makes this kind of support workable.
