About Us

Southern Family Care supports adults in their own homes in Colchester and the surrounding part of Essex. We work with older people and younger adults, adults with learning disabilities and autism, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. We also support people with eating disorders and people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug misuse.

Our visits cover personal care, medicines, meals, the household, shopping and getting out and about, arranged around the times that suit the person rather than the times that suit a rota. For younger adults it is often about building the practical skills independent living asks for, and there we count it a success when we are needed less.

We plan support with the person, in their own words, and we keep the visiting team small so that faces stay familiar. Where somebody communicates differently or has sight or hearing loss, we learn how they prefer to be approached rather than expecting them to adapt to us. For people with mental health needs, and for people recovering from alcohol or drug misuse, reliability and an absence of judgement count for a great deal.
