    • Care Home

We at Ma-rie House are proud to offer warm, person centred residential care from our welcoming home in Burton on Trent, Staffordshire. As a dedicated residential care home, we provide a safe, comfortable and supportive environment where every resident is treated as an individual, with their own story, preferences and aspirations. Nestled within the DE postcode area of Burton on Trent, our home benefits from the friendly, community spirited atmosphere that this part of the West Midlands is known for. The local surroundings offer a reassuring blend of familiar town amenities and quieter, more restful spaces, making it an ideal setting for residents who value both connection and calm. Families visiting from across Staffordshire and the wider region will find us accessible and easy to reach. Inside, we have created a homely environment where comfort, dignity and wellbeing sit at the heart of everything we do. Our living spaces are designed to feel reassuringly domestic rather than clinical, encouraging residents to relax, socialise and feel truly at home. Whether someone enjoys quiet reflection, sharing a cup of tea with neighbours, or joining in with group activities, there is always a welcoming space to suit the mood of the day. Our specialisms reflect the diverse needs of the people we support. We provide older person care for those who may need a little extra help with daily living, alongside broader residential care that focuses on companionship, routine and reassurance. We also support adults living with a learning disability or autism, taking the time to understand individual communication styles, sensory preferences and personal goals so that each person feels genuinely listened to. For residents with a physical disability, we adapt our support to promote as much independence as possible, whilst those living with visual or hearing impairments benefit from a considered, patient approach that helps them stay confident and engaged. We also welcome younger adults, recognising that meaningful care is about life stage, identity and personal ambition, not simply age. In practice, this means our team takes time to build genuine relationships with residents and their loved ones. Care plans are shaped around the person, not the other way around, and families are encouraged to stay closely involved in decisions, updates and day to day life. From favourite meals and bedtime routines to hobbies, faith, cultural preferences and meaningful milestones, the small details matter to us because we know they matter to the people we care for. As a newer presence on the care landscape, Ma-rie House has not yet received a formal CQC overall rating. Rather than seeing this as a gap, we view it as an opportunity. It means we are at an exciting stage of our journey, building our reputation from the ground up through consistent, compassionate care and transparent communication with families. We fully embrace the standards expected by the Care Quality Commission and are committed to demonstrating safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led practice every single day. Families are warmly encouraged to visit, ask questions and see for themselves the standards we hold ourselves to. Choosing a care home is one of the most important and emotional decisions a family can make, and we never underestimate the trust placed in us. If you are exploring residential care in Burton on Trent for an older relative, a younger adult, or a loved one with additional needs, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please get in touch to arrange a visit, meet our team and discover whether Ma-rie House could be the right next chapter for someone you love.

    • Care Home

River Lodge is a residential care home in Burton On Trent, Staffordshire. We support older people and younger adults, including people with a learning disability and people who are autistic, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. We take the view that moving into a care home should narrow somebody's life as little as possible. People here keep in touch with family and friends, get out locally, make choices about their own day and take part in running the household if they want to. Where somebody wants more independence than they currently have, we treat that as something to work towards rather than a risk to be managed away. Practical care is given quietly and respectfully. Help with washing, dressing, medication or mobility is arranged the way the person prefers, and we check that we have it right rather than assuming. Our team is stable, which matters more than any policy. When carers know somebody well, they notice changes in mood or health early and can do something about it. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Respite stays are planned in advance where we can, with a visit first, so that a short stay is a break rather than an upheaval. If you would like to see River Lodge, please arrange a time and come in.

Bateman House Care Home is in Uttoxeter, providing residential care for older people who can no longer manage safely on their own. We aim for the feel of a household rather than an institution, with people keeping their own routines, their own belongings and a genuine say in how their day goes. We support people living with dementia, and that work depends on continuity above all. Knowing what somebody's day used to look like, keeping as much of it as we can and understanding what sits behind distress rather than simply managing it is what makes the difference between a settled day and a difficult one. Respite stays are available too, whether somebody needs care for a short period after illness or a family carer needs a proper break. We plan short stays with the same attention as a permanent move, so nobody arrives feeling temporary. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. Until we do, the honest answer is that you should come and look at us. See whether people are up and occupied, whether mealtimes are sociable and whether the staff talk about the people here as individuals. That will tell you more than any document.

Shoemaker Place is a residential care home in Stone, Staffordshire, supporting older people including those living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Day to day, our work is about keeping life recognisable and comfortable. Helping somebody get up and dressed in the way they prefer, serving food they actually look forward to, making sure the television or the radio is on the station they like, and giving time to conversation. For people living with dementia, we focus on what is still there rather than what has gone, and we build the day around the person's own pace. Where somebody has a physical disability or lives with sight or hearing loss, we pay attention to the practical detail. Equipment that is right for the person, belongings kept where they are expected, and information given in a form that can actually be received. Respite stays are available too, whether a family carer needs a planned break or someone needs support for a few weeks. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather be straightforward about that than hide it. Work is under way on the areas identified, and we are happy to talk through with any family exactly what has changed. Please come and visit, ask us anything, and form your own view.

    • Care Home

The Old Vicarage is a residential care home in Stoke on Trent supporting older people, including many living with dementia, and adults living with a physical disability. We also welcome respite guests. We run the home as a household. People get up when they are ready, eat what they want and spend the day as they choose, whether that is in company or quietly on their own. Staff learn residents' histories rather than just their needs, and in this part of the world there is usually a great deal of history to learn, much of it about the potteries, the families and the streets people grew up in. Dementia care is a large part of our work. We keep routines familiar, the building calm and the staffing as consistent as we can manage. We follow the person rather than correcting them, and when someone is distressed we look for the cause instead of treating the distress as the problem. Relatives usually know what helps, and we ask. For residents living with a physical disability we pay close attention to seating, equipment and how the building works, since independence tends to rest on very practical things being right. Respite guests receive exactly what permanent residents receive. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. If you would like to look round, please get in touch and come and see us.

    • Care Home

We are a residential home at Blythe Bridge supporting adults with learning disabilities, autistic people and people living with mental health conditions. The house is run as a household rather than a service. People living here have their own rooms and their own belongings and a real say in how the place works, from what is cooked to what happens at the weekend. For adults who have often had decisions taken on their behalf, that ordinary degree of control is central to what we are trying to do. Support is arranged around the individual. For some people the priority is staying well: medication, appointments, noticing early when things are becoming difficult and having staff nearby who know them well enough to see it coming. For others it is about doing more, whether that means work, college, volunteering, managing money with a hand from us, or getting out regularly and keeping up with family. Predictability counts for a good deal here, particularly for autistic people, so we keep our staffing as consistent as we can and avoid changing arrangements without warning and explanation. Respite stays are available as well as longer places, which can give a family a planned break while the person stays somewhere settled. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are looking for a place for yourself or someone in your family, please come and visit and ask us whatever you need to.

We are Woodland View in Cannock, Staffordshire, a residential home offering short breaks and respite stays for older people and younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Short stays are what we are set up for, and that shapes everything about how we work. Somebody coming here for a few days or a fortnight has to settle quickly, in an unfamiliar house, with staff they may not know well, and that only happens if we have done the groundwork first. So we ask a great deal before a stay: how somebody likes their day to run, what they eat, what they enjoy, how they let us know when they are unhappy, and what tends to unsettle them. Then we keep to it. Short breaks matter for two reasons. They give family carers a genuine rest, which is often what allows an arrangement at home to continue for years rather than months. And they give the person staying with us their own time away, with their own choices, which is worth having in its own right. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us to look round or discuss a stay.

Amber House Residential Home is in Burton on Trent, providing residential care to older people, with respite stays available too. We are a home for people who need help with everyday living rather than nursing care, and many of our residents live with dementia. We would far rather families read that here than come across it elsewhere and wonder why we did not mention it. We understand what was identified, we are working through it, and we are willing to go through both the findings and our response in detail with anyone who asks. What we are working towards is not complicated. Residents should be supported by people who know them well, at a pace that suits them, in a routine that makes sense. Dementia care in particular depends on familiarity and on staff having the time to understand what someone is trying to communicate, and getting the basics consistently right is how that becomes possible. The people living here remain our first concern throughout, and their families deserve honesty from us about the problems as well as the progress. If you are considering a place for a relative, please come and visit, ask us hard questions, and judge the home on what you see.

    • Care Home

St Ives Close is a residential care home in Tamworth, Staffordshire, supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We also offer respite stays. We are a small house and that is deliberate. Support built around real people works better than support built around a timetable, and in a house this size everyone who works here knows everyone who lives here. What we are aiming at is not a tidily run home for its own sake. It is that the people living here get on with the things they actually want to do, with us handling the parts that are genuinely difficult and keeping out of the way of the parts that are not. Getting there means knowing people properly. How somebody communicates when they are anxious and words are harder to reach. What their sensory needs are. Which parts of a week are reliably hard and what actually helps when a day starts to go wrong. We write that down clearly, and support plans are written with the person in words that are theirs. Respite stays are arranged with visits beforehand so that arriving is familiar. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Arkall Manor Care Home is a care home in Tamworth, Staffordshire. We provide residential care for older people and for younger adults, including people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we also offer respite stays for those who need care for a short period or whose regular carer needs a rest. Moving into a care home is rarely a decision anyone makes lightly, so we try to make the first weeks as unhurried as possible. We ask about the routines someone has kept for years, the food they actually like, how they take their tea, whether they prefer company or their own room, and we build from there rather than expecting people to fit around us. Day to day, that means people get up and go to bed when they choose, can bring furniture and pictures from home, and can carry on with what they enjoy, be it gardening, the newspaper, cards, music or simply watching the comings and goings. Where someone is living with dementia, we work to keep the surroundings calm and familiar and to understand what lies behind any distress. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, and we are happy to talk through our own quality checks with anyone who asks. Families are welcome here at any reasonable hour. Please come and visit us in Tamworth before you decide anything.

Queensway House is a nursing home in Stafford providing both nursing and residential care. Having qualified nursing staff on hand throughout the day and night means people can stay somewhere familiar as their needs change, rather than facing another move at the point when a move is hardest. We support older people and younger adults, including people managing a mental health condition. Because we offer residential as well as nursing care, we can support people whose needs vary considerably, and we take care not to run one routine and expect everyone to fit it. Alongside the clinical side of our work, the ordinary shape of a day gets just as much attention. Whether someone can get up when they want, eat something they actually fancy, have company when they want it and quiet when they do not, and carry on doing whatever they can still manage for themselves. Respite care is available too, whether planned so a family carer can take a proper break or arranged while someone regains strength after a hospital stay. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Relatives are welcome here, and we would rather raise a concern early than explain it afterwards. In practice, this means our team takes the time to understand each person as an individual, building care plans around personal routines, preferences, communication styles and aspirations. For families, this person centred approach offers real reassurance: your loved one is not simply receiving care, they are being known, respected and encouraged to live as fully and independently as possible. For older residents, daily life is shaped around dignity, companionship and gentle support with the tasks that matter most. For younger adults and those with learning disabilities, autism or physical disabilities, we focus on enabling choice, fostering confidence and supporting meaningful activity. We recognise that good residential care is about far more than meeting physical needs; it is about emotional wellbeing, friendship and a sense of belonging. The Lodge has been rated Good overall by the Care Quality Commission following its most recent inspection. This rating reflects the standards we uphold across the areas of safety, effectiveness, caring and responsiveness, each of which was also rated Good. We are transparent that the well led domain was rated Requires Improvement, and we view this as a constructive prompt for ongoing development. Our commitment is to keep listening, learning and strengthening our leadership and governance so that the experience for residents continues to grow stronger year on year. Choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that responsibility. If you are exploring residential care options in Newcastle Under Lyme or the wider Staffordshire area, we warmly invite you to get in touch with The Lodge. Whether you are at the very beginning of your search or ready to arrange a visit, our door is open, and we would be honoured to share more about how we could support your loved one.

We try to keep the feel of a household rather than a facility, with people bringing their own furniture and belongings and carrying on with what they enjoy. We help with personal care, mobility, meals and medication, and we care for people living with dementia, where familiar staff, steady routines and unhurried time do more good than anything more elaborate. We also support people living with mental health needs, where a calm and reliable house counts for a great deal, and people with a physical disability, thinking carefully about how rooms are arranged so that independence is not quietly worn away by small obstacles. Respite stays are available as well, whether to give a family carer a proper break or to let someone try the home for a short period before making a longer decision. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. In practice, this means person centred plans, considered routines, and a real commitment to helping every resident maintain independence wherever possible. For families, it brings the reassurance that their loved one is understood as a whole person, not simply a set of needs. We are pleased to share that our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection, carried out in April 2023, awarded us an overall rating of Good. This rating was reflected consistently across every domain assessed, with Good ratings achieved for being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. For families, this offers meaningful reassurance: it reflects an environment where residents are kept safe, where care is delivered effectively, where kindness sits at the heart of our culture, where the home responds thoughtfully to changing needs, and where strong leadership underpins everything we do. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that responsibility. If you are exploring residential care in Burntwood for yourself or someone you love, we warmly invite you to learn more about life at 235 Rugeley Road. Our door is open, and we would be honoured to support your family through this next chapter with the care, respect and understanding everyone deserves.

We are Tree Tops, a residential care home in Burton on Trent. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available. We plan around individuals rather than around a single routine. The people living here have quite different notions of a good week. Some want to be busy, with work, college, sport or regular groups and plenty of getting out into the town. Others want quiet and a rhythm they can rely on, and where change is unsettling we keep things steady and prepare carefully for anything unusual. This is their home, so decisions about food, decoration and how time is spent belong to the people living in it. Communication gets proper attention too, because how somebody prefers to be given information is the basis of everything else rather than a detail to be settled later. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. Until we have, we would encourage families and commissioners to ask us detailed questions about staffing, training and how support is planned here. Please contact us if you would like to look round.

    • Care Home

Mitchell House is a care home in Stoke on Trent providing residential care for adults with a range of needs. We aim for a household where people are known properly rather than looked after efficiently, and where the day has a comfortable shape to it. We help with personal care, medication, meals, mobility and company, and we bring in community health professionals when something more clinical is needed. We support residents living with dementia, where familiar staff and a routine that holds steady are what genuinely help. We care for residents living with mental health conditions, where a calm environment and early attention to changes matter greatly, and residents with physical disabilities or a visual or hearing impairment, adapting how we communicate and how we assist person by person. We support people affected by alcohol or drug misuse without judgement, and we support younger adults, planning their interests and routines on their own terms. Respite stays are available for families needing a planned break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather tell you that ourselves than have you find it later and wonder what else went unsaid. The areas identified are where our effort is going. Please visit, speak to the people who live here and ask us about it directly.

    • Care Home

Morgan House is a residential care home in Stoke on Trent. We support older people who need help with day to day life, adults with mental health needs and some younger adults, and we take the view that a good home is one where people still make their own decisions. Our staff help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and anything else that has become difficult, and they do it in a way that leaves people their dignity and their routines. Residents choose when to get up, where to spend the day, what they eat and whether they want company. We will encourage somebody who has withdrawn, but we will not badger them. For residents with mental health needs, the most valuable things we offer are stability, a calm household and staff who know a person well enough to notice when something has shifted. We work with local mental health services and doctors, and we keep families involved as much as the person wants. We try to keep contact with the local area going, whether that is a walk out, a visit from family or somebody keeping up something they have always done. Respite stays are available, which can give a family carer a break or help somebody settle for a short period. If you are looking at homes in this part of Staffordshire, please come and see us and ask whatever you need to ask.

    • Care Home

We are a residential care home near Stafford, providing a home for older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia. Our aim is an unhurried house. A good deal of care is spoiled simply by being rushed, so we try to give people the time to wash, dress and eat at their own pace, and to sit with somebody who wants to talk rather than moving straight on to the next task. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Meals are cooked here and we pay attention when somebody would rather have something different. Dementia care comes down to knowing the person. We ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits, because that knowledge is what allows a member of staff to reassure somebody who is anxious or cannot place where they are. It is worth a great deal more than any written procedure. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. A planned break can be what allows a relative to keep providing care at home for longer. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Families are welcome whenever they wish to come. Please come and see the home for yourself before deciding anything.

    • Care Home

Prestwood Lodge is a residential care home near Stourbridge. We provide care for older people and for people with physical disabilities, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. We are a residential home rather than a large institution, and the day here belongs to the people living in it. Some like an early start and a bit of company; others prefer a slow morning and a quiet afternoon. Our part is to make either possible, and to help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and getting about in a way that supports independence rather than quietly replacing it. Where somebody has a physical disability, we take trouble to get the detail right: equipment properly set up, staff who are confident using it, and moving and handling done the way the person prefers rather than the way that happens to be quickest. Being helped to move is a very personal business and it is worth doing well. A good deal of what makes a home like this work is unremarkable from the outside. Meals at a reasonable hour with people you know. Staff who are familiar and not in a rush. Somebody noticing that you are quieter than usual and asking about it without making a fuss. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. You are welcome to visit Prestwood Lodge and see the home as it ordinarily is.

Canal Lodge is a residential care home in Burton on Trent supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including people with visual or hearing impairment and younger adults. We also offer respite stays. This is somebody's home before it is anything else. People choose how their rooms look, what they eat, when they get up and how much of the day they spend in company. Those choices are most of what makes a place worth living in, and they take steady effort to protect when staff change and pressures build. Support is planned around what each person wants to be able to do rather than only around risk. Cooking, shopping, managing money, using the bus, getting to college, work or activities, and keeping up with family and friends. Where somebody needs a great deal of help, we still look hard for the parts they can take on themselves. Communication and environment get real attention. We learn how each person tells us what they want, including those who use little or no speech, and we adapt to them. Where sight or hearing is reduced we keep things where people expect to find them and adjust how we approach and speak to somebody. Noise, lighting and predictability all shape how a day turns out. Respite stays give families a break and give the person staying somewhere settled to come to. Please get in touch if you would like to come and see us.

    • Care Home

Nethermoor House is a residential care home in Rugeley, Staffordshire, and we provide a home for older people who need support with daily living. Respite stays are available too, planned in advance or arranged quickly when a family needs cover. Most of what makes a care home good is ordinary detail rather than anything grand. Knowing which chair is somebody's. Getting the tea right. Not hurrying a person through a wash because the morning is busy. We help with personal care, dressing, medication and mobility, doing it quietly and leaving as much privacy and choice with the resident as we can. Where somebody can still manage a task themselves, that is theirs to keep. Dementia care is a significant part of our work. We keep the daily rhythm and the surroundings steady, give people time to find their words instead of finishing their sentences, and take trouble to learn about earlier life, because knowing what somebody did for a living and what they loved tells us a great deal once language becomes unreliable. Families usually hold that story and we ask for it early. Respite bookings are planned with the same care as permanent moves, because a break only rests a family if the person staying with us is genuinely settled rather than merely safe. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and see us on an ordinary afternoon and ask us the awkward questions as well as the easy ones.

We at 37 Wolseley Road offer a warm, homely residential care setting in the heart of Rugeley, Staffordshire, providing specialist support for younger adults living with learning disabilities and autism. Our comfortable home is designed to feel like a genuine place of belonging rather than an institution. Nestled within a residential neighbourhood of Rugeley, our house sits within easy reach of the town's local amenities, green spaces and community hubs. The familiar surroundings of the WS postcode area help our residents feel truly connected to the wider community, whilst the domestic scale of the property creates an intimate, family orientated atmosphere where everyone is known by name and every voice matters. Our specialism in supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism shapes everything we do. We understand that each person who joins us brings their own history, communication style, sensory preferences and aspirations, and we take the time to get to know each individual properly. This person centred approach means we work in partnership with residents and their loved ones to build daily routines that promote independence, confidence and genuine wellbeing. Whether that involves developing life skills, pursuing hobbies, accessing the local community or simply enjoying quiet moments at home, the pace is set by the person we support. We also welcome younger adults who may be moving into supported living for the first time, as well as those requiring respite care. Respite stays can be a valuable lifeline for family carers, offering peace of mind that their loved one is enjoying a positive, well supported break in surroundings where they are treated with warmth, dignity and respect. Families tell us that knowing their relative is safe and content allows them to recharge with confidence. Our team recognises that trust is earned through consistency, kindness and open communication. We keep families informed, involved and listened to at every stage of the journey, from the first enquiry through to settling in and beyond. Relationships between residents, relatives and the people supporting them are the foundation of everything that happens under our roof. Regarding our regulatory position, the Care Quality Commission awarded us an overall rating of Requires Improvement at our most recent inspection in April 2020. Within that assessment, our Effective, Caring and Responsive domains were each rated Good, reflecting the kindness of our team, the tailored nature of the support we provide and the meaningful outcomes we help residents achieve. The Safe and Well led domains were rated Requires Improvement, and we take those findings seriously. We are committed to continuous learning and improvement, and we welcome open conversations with prospective residents and their families about the steps we take to strengthen every aspect of life in our home. Transparency matters to us, and we would rather have honest discussions than gloss over areas where growth is needed. We understand the mix of emotions involved, and we are here to answer your questions with patience and honesty. Others show us in ways that only become clear once you know them. Either way, decisions get made with the person, and we would rather take longer over a conversation than move faster without them. Routine and predictability matter a great deal here, so we give proper notice of anything that is changing. People are involved in running the house, in choosing what they eat, in how their own space looks and in what they do with their week. Where somebody wants work, college, sport or regular contact with family, we arrange the support to make it happen. We offer respite stays alongside permanent places. We should be open with anyone considering the home. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have examined the inspection findings and are working through them, and we would rather you asked us about it plainly than found out later. Please contact us if you would like to visit.

Grove Court is a residential care home in Newcastle under Lyme, and we support adults living with mental ill health. Respite stays are available as well. What we provide most of is stability. A team that residents come to know properly, a shape to the week that holds, and a house that does not come apart when somebody has a difficult stretch. Mental health rarely moves in a straight line, and we plan for that rather than treating a bad fortnight as a failure on anybody's part. Support is agreed with the person and written in words they recognise. Some residents need a good deal of practical help with daily living, medication and appointments. Others mainly want somewhere settled to live while they rebuild, with support available when they ask rather than imposed. We work alongside community mental health teams, GPs and social workers, and we keep asking when somebody needs something that is slow in coming. We also take people's own plans seriously. Work, study, hobbies, family, friendships and moving on to something more independent are things to support rather than manage around. We should be straightforward about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have worked through the findings with our team, and that is where our attention is concentrated now. We would rather say so ourselves and be asked about it. Anyone considering Grove Court, family or professional, is welcome to visit and put questions to us directly.

Acacia Care in Burton on Trent is a residential care home for older people, including people living with dementia and people with a physical disability. We also offer respite stays for those who need care for a few weeks. We run the home the way a household runs. People get up when they wake, eat what they enjoy, sit where they choose and keep the habits of a lifetime. Help with washing, dressing, medication and getting about is given as and when it is needed, quietly, and without anybody feeling they have been taken over. Good dementia care depends on knowing the person rather than on any particular technique. Our team learns each resident's history, their family and the things that reassure them, and we keep the surroundings calm and familiar. Where somebody is agitated or anxious, we look for what is behind it. For residents with a physical disability, we make sure that help with mobility is given in the way the person prefers, and that the home does not become a set of obstacles. Families are welcome here and we keep in touch with them properly, not only when something has gone wrong. If you are looking at residential care in or around Burton on Trent, please arrange to visit and take your time over the decision.

We are a small residential care home on Ashby Road in Burton on Trent, supporting younger adults, including people who have a learning disability and people who are autistic. Because the house is small, life here is domestic in scale. People have their own rooms arranged as they want them, meals are planned with the people who eat them and the day runs at a household pace rather than an institutional one. Support is agreed with each person, and ranges from help with personal care and medication to practical assistance with cooking, budgeting and appointments, to simply having reliable people nearby while somebody gets on with college, work or seeing friends. For the autistic people we support, predictability does much of the work. We plan ahead, explain changes before they happen and pay attention to noise, light and how busy the shared areas are. Where somebody becomes distressed, our first question is what caused it rather than how to manage it. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a visit.

    • Care Home

We are a residential care home on Derby Road in Burton on Trent, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Most of those living here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. We are a small home, so attention is not rationed. That is worth more to most of the people here than any facility a larger place could offer. How somebody's room looks is up to them, and so is a good part of what goes on the shopping list. Where a person wants a job or a course, that is the point of our involvement. Predictability is something we take particularly seriously. For many of those living here, knowing exactly what is happening and who will be on shift is the difference between a settled day and a difficult one. Residents' rooms are theirs, and we treat them that way. We do not move furniture, tidy possessions or let ourselves in without knocking. We pay attention to pain, including in people who cannot easily tell us about it. Unexplained agitation is usually a signal rather than a behaviour. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. We keep the standard by noticing the things that are easy to let slide.

Walsingham Support in Staffordshire is a residential care home in Tamworth, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. We support younger adults and older people, and we also offer respite stays for those who need support for a shorter period or whose usual carer needs a break. The people who live here are adults with their own preferences, opinions and plans, and our job is to support those rather than to manage them. Residents decide how their days go, what they eat, how their rooms look and what they want to work towards. Some are building skills around cooking, budgeting, travel or employment. Others want support to keep doing the things they already enjoy and to stay close to family and friends. Support plans are written with each person, using whatever way of communicating works best for them. We pay careful attention to what helps someone feel settled and what causes them stress, and we shape routines and surroundings around that. As residents get older their needs change, and we plan for that openly with them and the people who matter to them. We work alongside community teams and local health services, and families and advocates are genuinely welcome. The Care Quality Commission most recently rated us good overall. We at Christ the King, Footherley Hall extend a warm welcome to families exploring residential care in Lichfield, where our home offers dedicated support for older people within the peaceful surroundings of Staffordshire. Set within the Lichfield area of the West Midlands, our home enjoys a tranquil location that provides residents with a calm and comfortable place to call their own. The setting lends itself to gentle strolls, quiet reflection, and the kind of restful atmosphere that helps residents feel truly at ease. Families visiting from across Staffordshire and the wider WS postcode area will find us accessible whilst benefitting from the serenity of our surroundings. Our specialisms centre on older person care, residential care, and dementia care, alongside tailored support for residents living with visual or hearing impairment. We also offer respite care, giving family carers the reassurance of a trusted place where their loved one can stay for a shorter period. In practice, this means our team takes time to understand each resident as an individual, recognising their history, preferences, and the small daily routines that bring comfort and familiarity. For those living with dementia, we focus on creating a predictable and gentle environment where residents can feel safe, understood, and valued. For residents with sensory impairment, we adapt our communication and daily support to ensure no one feels isolated or overlooked. Respite guests are welcomed with the same warmth and attention, whether staying for a few days or several weeks, allowing family carers to rest knowing their relative is genuinely cared for. Following our most recent CQC inspection in November 2023, we received an overall rating of Requires Improvement. We were pleased that inspectors rated us Good in the Caring and Responsive domains, reflecting the genuine compassion of our team and our commitment to responding to residents as individuals. We recognise that improvements are needed in the Safe, Effective, and Well-led areas, and we are actively working to strengthen these aspects of our home. We believe honesty about where we stand matters, and we welcome open conversations with families about the steps we are taking to enhance every aspect of life at Footherley Hall. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that choice. If you are considering residential or dementia care for someone you love, we warmly invite you to get in touch, arrange a visit, and see for yourself the home we are working every day to make better. Glyn House is a residential care home in Stoke on Trent supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults working towards a more independent life. Ordinary life is what we are aiming at. People here are supported to cook, shop, keep their rooms exactly as they want them, get out to college, work or a club, and have a real say in how the week is arranged. For autistic residents we pay close attention to the things that make a home manageable: predictable routines, proper warning before anything changes, and a quiet place to go when the day has been too much. Support is offered at whatever level suits each person, and we are as interested in what somebody can manage independently as in what they need a hand with. Respite stays are available for people needing support for a short period. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Requires Improvement. Our specialisms reflect the breadth of people we are proud to support. We provide care for older people, younger adults, and individuals living with learning disabilities or autism. We also welcome those with physical disabilities and residents with visual or hearing impairments, tailoring our approach to each person's unique needs. In practice, this means our team takes time to understand routines, preferences, communication styles, and personal interests, so that every guest feels genuinely known and respected. For families, our respite offering can be a lifeline, giving loved ones and regular carers the opportunity to rest, travel, or attend to other commitments with complete peace of mind, knowing their family member is in caring, capable hands. Short break care is at the very heart of what we do. We understand that arranging respite can feel like a significant step, particularly for families who have been the primary carers for many years. That is why we place such emphasis on gentle introductions, open communication, and building trust before, during, and after each stay. Whether a guest visits us regularly as part of a planned rotation or comes to us in a moment of need, we aim to make each stay feel restorative, sociable, and enjoyable. Our commitment to quality is reflected in our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission, where we were awarded an overall rating of Good. This positive outcome extended across every domain assessed, with Good ratings for being safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well led. For families, this consistency offers meaningful reassurance. It confirms that the care we provide is delivered thoughtfully, that our team is well supported and effective in their roles, that residents are treated with warmth and compassion, that we respond attentively to individual needs, and that our home is guided by strong, values driven leadership. Choosing a care home, even for a short break, is a deeply personal decision, and we recognise the trust families place in us when they walk through our doors. Greenway House Residential Home is a care home near Wolverhampton. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss, and we offer respite stays. We try to run a household rather than an institution. Residents bring their own furniture and photographs, keep the routines they have always kept and decide for themselves how much they want to be part of what is going on. Nobody is walked to an activity they have not chosen. When somebody joins us we take time over their history and preferences, and we record it so that every member of staff knows it rather than only whoever did the assessment. Dementia support rests on familiarity and pace, so we keep staffing as consistent as we can, avoid unnecessary change and work out what settles a particular resident. Where sight or hearing is failing we pay attention to lighting, contrast, signage and equipment, and we check that glasses and hearing aids are actually being used and maintained. For residents with physical disabilities we look at how the building is arranged so that independence is protected where it can be. Supporting mental health needs means consistency and working alongside community teams rather than separately from them. Meals are cooked here and residents have a say in the menu. Visitors are welcome through the day. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the home for yourself.

Parkbrook Lodge is a care home in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, providing residential support for adults with a learning disability or autism, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays, which can give a family carer a genuine break while the person staying with us has company and a change of surroundings. This is somebody's home before it is anything else. People here have their own rooms, their own routines and a real say in how the day goes. Support is about making ordinary things possible rather than doing them for people. Cooking a meal you like. Doing your own shopping. Managing your money. Getting to a club, a course or a job. Seeing family when you want to. We are careful about that distinction, because independence is easily worn away by help that arrives too quickly. We pay close attention to how people communicate, which is not always through words, and we take the time needed to understand properly rather than assume. Plans are written with the person and changed when they stop fitting. We work alongside families and with social work and health colleagues, since support that everybody has agreed on is the support that holds. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep examining our practice around choice and independence, where any provider can drift. If you are considering a place or a respite stay with us, please come and visit and meet the people who live here.

Copperdown is a residential care home in Rugeley. We care for older people who need help with daily living, including people living with dementia, people with mental health needs and people with physical disabilities, and we offer respite stays. Our everyday work is the ordinary business of a household run well. Help with washing, dressing and moving about at the person's own pace and as privately as possible. Medication managed properly. Meals cooked here with real choice. Rooms that people make their own with their own furniture and pictures. Company when it is wanted and quiet when it is not. We should be open about where we stand. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement overall. We did not dispute the findings. Since then we have strengthened staffing and supervision, tightened how we manage medicines and the records we keep, and had senior staff check the care actually being given rather than the care described on paper. That work is continuing and we are not going to claim it is finished. We would far rather raise this ourselves and answer questions about it honestly than leave a family to discover it later, and we are glad to go through the detail with anyone who asks. Anyone considering the home is welcome to visit, see how things are now, talk to the people who live here, and ask us anything at all.

We are a small residential care home at Leafdown Close in Cannock, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. We offer permanent places and planned respite stays. Being small is the point rather than a limitation. Staff know every resident properly rather than from a note in a file, the pace of the day is unhurried, and preferences are remembered without anyone having to ask twice. For many of the adults we support, a quiet household with predictable rhythms is what makes daily life manageable. Residents have their own rooms, a genuine say in how the house runs and support planned with them rather than written about them. We look for ways to build skills and confidence rather than quietly taking tasks over, because independence grows through practice. Getting the environment right matters enormously. Noise, lighting, predictability and knowing what is coming next often decide whether someone is settled or on edge, and we shape the house around the people living in it. Where a person signs, uses symbols or an app, or communicates through behaviour we have learned to read, the responsibility for understanding is ours. We also support people to keep up college, work, friendships and family contact. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Please come and visit, meet the people who live here and ask us how we would support the person you have in mind.

The Larkins is a small residential home near Stoke on Trent supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, including younger adults moving into a home of their own for the first time. We also offer respite stays, planned in advance so that a short stay is a visit somewhere familiar. We run the house as the residents' home rather than as our workplace. People choose how their bedrooms look, have a real say in the meals and the shopping, and get involved in cooking, laundry and looking after the place as much as they want to. Support covers personal care where it is needed, medication, health appointments and managing money, and it covers getting out to the things people care about, whether that is a job, a course, a gym, a club or seeing family. We pay close attention to how each person communicates and to what makes a day feel manageable. Predictable routines, clear information given in good time, and staff who understand somebody's particular sensitivities all make a genuine difference, so we get those details right and we record what works. Where somebody becomes distressed we look at why rather than simply managing the behaviour. We are registered with and regulated by the Care Quality Commission. At Station House, we provide residential care for adults in the heart of Burton on Trent, Staffordshire. We support people with a range of needs including learning disabilities, autism, mental health conditions, and visual or hearing impairments, and we also welcome younger adults and those who need short term respite care. We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a person or their family will ever make, and we do not take that lightly. Our aim is straightforward: to make sure everyone who lives here feels genuinely at home, respected, and in control of their own life as much as possible. We work closely with residents and their families to understand what matters to each person individually, because good care starts with listening. Our team takes the time to build real relationships with the people we support. We understand that needs can be complex and that no two people are the same, so we tailor our approach accordingly. Whether someone is with us long term or staying for a short respite break, we want their time here to be comfortable, meaningful, and positive. We are proud that our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us as Good. This reflects the effort our whole team puts in every day, and it gives families an independent reassurance that the care provided here meets a solid standard. That said, we never see a Good rating as a reason to stand still. We are always looking at how we can do things better. If you would like to find out more about life at Station House, or if you are considering whether we might be the right fit for someone you care about, please do get in touch. Here at Summerfield Care Home in Burton On Trent, Staffordshire, we provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, as well as shorter term respite stays for those who need a little extra support for a while. We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we do not take that lightly. Our aim is straightforward: to make sure every person who lives here feels safe, comfortable and genuinely at home. We take the time to get to know each resident as an individual, understanding their routines, preferences and what matters most to them in day to day life. Our team works hard to create an environment that feels warm and familiar rather than clinical or institutional. Whether someone is joining us on a permanent basis or for a short respite break, we want them to feel settled and well cared for from the moment they arrive. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission, and our most recent inspection resulted in an overall rating of requires improvement. We want to be straightforward about that. We have taken the findings seriously and have been working through the areas identified, making real and practical changes to how we operate. We believe in being open with families and prospective residents about where we are on that journey, rather than glossing over it. Dementia care is a significant part of what we do here, and we work thoughtfully to support residents living with dementia in a way that respects their dignity and maintains as much familiarity and routine as possible. If you would like to find out more or come and have a look around, we would genuinely welcome the chance to meet you and talk through how we might be able to help.

Crispin Court is a residential care home in Stafford. We support older people and younger adults, and our experience covers dementia, mental health needs, physical disabilities, and sight and hearing loss. Respite stays are part of what we do. With that range of people, the only approach that works is to build round individuals. Before anybody moves in we spend time with them and whoever they want involved, learning how they like their days to go, what they manage perfectly well themselves, where help would be welcome and what they would rather we left alone. That becomes the plan, and it is theirs to change. Help with washing, dressing, mobility, medication and health appointments is given as the person has asked and recorded carefully, so it happens the same way whoever is on shift. Rooms and equipment get genuine thought, because independence often turns on whether a thing is within reach. Where there is sensory loss we attend to lighting, contrast, clear signs and hearing aids that have actually been checked. With dementia we lean on knowing somebody well, gathering their history with their family and keeping it current, so staff respond to the person rather than to the behaviour in front of them. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall. We were pleased, and we read it mainly as a sign that the ordinary daily things were being done properly and consistently.

    • Care Home

We are a residential care home in Tamworth, providing a home for older people who need support with the ordinary business of daily life. We try to keep the atmosphere of a house rather than a facility, with people bringing their own furniture and pictures and carrying on with the things they have always enjoyed. We help with personal care, mobility, meals and medication, and we care for people living with dementia. What makes the real difference with dementia, in our experience, is familiar staff, routines that stay put and enough time that nothing needs rushing. We also support people with a physical disability, thinking carefully about how rooms are set up so that independence is not quietly eroded, and people with a visual or hearing impairment, adapting how we communicate. Respite stays are available as well. A planned break can be what allows a family carer to keep going, and a short stay is also a gentle way of finding out whether a care home is the right step. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would much rather a resident or relative raised a concern while it was still small, so we ask often and we act on what we hear. Please do come and visit. Looking round and meeting people tells you far more than anything written down.

Greenfield House is a residential care home in Leek, Staffordshire. We support older people who need help with daily living, along with younger adults, residents living with dementia, a learning disability or autism, or a mental health condition, people with a physical disability and those living with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available for shorter periods. We support a broad mix of people here, so we plan around individuals rather than working to a formula. Residents decide when they get up, how they spend their time and what they eat. Meals are cooked on the premises and preferences are remembered. We must be open about our most recent inspection. The Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement overall. We did not dispute the findings. We accepted them, put an improvement plan in place and are working through it, with closer oversight of the areas the inspectors raised. We would far rather tell you this ourselves and let you judge the progress for yourself. Our staff take time to learn what helps a particular resident feel settled and what unsettles them, and we adapt how we communicate to suit the person. We keep close contact with GPs and community teams and keep families informed. Please come and look round and ask us the difficult questions.

    • Care Home

40 Stafford Avenue, part of Choices Housing Association, is a residential care home in Newcastle under Lyme supporting adults with a learning disability or autism, people with a visual or hearing impairment and older people who need residential care. Support is planned individually. It can include help with personal care, medication, cooking, laundry, managing money and getting to appointments, and it takes in the parts of life that matter just as much: friendships, going out, keeping up an interest, having plans of your own. We communicate in whatever way suits each person, adapting for sight and hearing where that is needed, and we give people the time to do things their own way rather than stepping in for the sake of speed. Where somebody wants more independence, we plan support that draws back as their confidence grows. We support younger adults alongside older residents. Respite stays are available too, giving family carers a real break and letting somebody get used to the house first. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit, meet the people who live here and see how the household actually works.

Ashby Road is a small residential care home in Burton On Trent, Staffordshire, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. We work mainly with younger adults, and we also offer respite stays for those who need support for a shorter period or whose usual carer needs a break. The Care Quality Commission most recently rated us outstanding overall. We are pleased about that, though what matters more day to day is that the people who live here have lives they actually want. Being small is the point rather than a limitation. People here know each other and know the staff well, and daily life feels like a household rather than a service being delivered. Residents have their own rooms and a genuine say in how their days go, what they eat and how they spend their time. Our job is to support people to be as independent as they want to be. Some are building skills around cooking, money, travel or work. Others want steady, familiar support so that life stays comfortable. We plan support with each person, using whatever way of communicating suits them best, and we take real care to understand what helps somebody feel settled and what causes them stress. Families and advocates are genuinely welcome. Please get in touch if you would like to visit.

Wilbraham House is a residential care home in Stoke on Trent. We support older people, including those living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, and people with physical disabilities. We are home to younger adults as well as older ones, and we offer respite stays. A mixed household asks more of us, not less. A single routine will not suit everybody, so we work out individually what a good day looks like for each person. For some that means company and something going on. For others it means their own room, their own radio and being left in peace, and we treat that as an equally good day rather than something to be gently corrected. For residents living with dementia we keep the day predictable and the surroundings familiar, and we ask families for the history that lets us understand what a person means rather than just what they said. For residents with physical disabilities we plan around what somebody can still manage themselves, because independence handed over for convenience is rarely handed back. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Families are welcome whenever they want to come, and relatives often notice things we have stopped seeing.

    • Care Home

Ash Tree House is a residential care home in Burton on Trent, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Most of those living here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. We treat this as somebody's home rather than a placement. People arrange their own rooms, have a real say in the food and the shopping, and are involved in how the household runs. Where somebody can do something themselves, our job is to make that possible rather than to do it more quickly for them, even when the quicker route is tempting on a busy morning. Where somebody wants a job, a course or a club, that is the purpose of the support rather than an addition to it. It is usually what makes the rest of the week worth arranging. Predictability matters a great deal here. For many of those living with us, knowing what is happening and who will be on shift is what makes a day workable, so we plan ahead and explain changes early rather than rearranging casually. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission, and we would rather state that plainly. Anyone considering this home is welcome to visit without an appointment and ask us whatever they want to ask.

Broadmeadow Court is a residential care home in Stoke on Trent. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people whose sight or hearing is impaired, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. We try to make this feel like somewhere people live, not somewhere they have been put. Rooms are personal and people are encouraged to bring their own furniture and pictures. There is no rule about when to get up or go to bed, and nobody is made to join in with anything. Visitors are welcome at sensible hours without booking an appointment first. Our staff help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and moving about, and they do it in a way that keeps somebody's dignity intact. Where sight or hearing has changed we pay attention to the practical adjustments, the lighting, the contrast, the way information is given, that make the difference between somebody managing and somebody being cut off. For people living with dementia we keep things familiar and unhurried. We ask families to tell us about a person's working life, their habits and the people who matter, because that history is usually what helps us understand what somebody needs in a moment of confusion. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Please come and look round, meet the team and speak to relatives of people who already live here.

Arranging and funding a care home place in Staffordshire

Residential care means a permanent home where personal care is built into the day: help with washing and dressing, meals prepared and served, medication managed, and staff present through the night. It stops short of nursing, which is the distinction that separates these homes from nursing homes. Staffordshire covers a wide mix of market towns, former mining communities and rural parishes, and the 183 homes listed here differ as much in scale and character as the places they sit in.

Weighing the inspection outcomes

Fourteen of the sixty homes sampled for this page carry a Requires Improvement rating, which makes reading the reports rather than the labels particularly worthwhile here. Such a judgement may rest on incomplete records or on something more consequential such as staffing levels or medicines handling, and only the report distinguishes between them. Field House is among the homes rated Outstanding. A larger group, including Doddlespool Hall Care Home and The Birches, is rated Good, while a number of recently registered homes have not yet been inspected. Always check the date of the inspection, since ownership and management can change a great deal in a couple of years.

What a visit actually tells you

Go at a busy time rather than a convenient one. Late morning and mealtimes reveal whether residents are engaged or merely seated, whether staff greet people by name, and whether the place feels settled or stretched. Ask how many carers are on duty overnight, how long the current team has been in post, and what happens when a resident becomes unwell in the small hours. Look at bedrooms for signs that people have brought their own things, and at communal spaces for evidence that they are used. Distance matters more than most families expect, because visits that are easy to make happen far more often than visits that are not.

Choosing between care homes in Staffordshire

The care needs assessment

Every person who appears to need care and support has a right to a free assessment, whatever their savings. The assessment sets out what help is required and underpins everything that follows, including any funding decision, so it is far better arranged in advance than during a hospital discharge. In this county the work is carried out by Staffordshire County Council adult social care, which follows it with a separate financial assessment. Where someone is already on a ward, the hospital discharge team can set the same process running.

Fees and how they are met

Weekly fees are set by each home and reflect the room, the support required and local demand, so quotes differ widely even between neighbouring towns. Where capital is above the national threshold, the resident pays privately and contracts directly with the home. Below it, the council contributes while the resident pays an assessed share from pension and other income. Councils fund only up to an agreed rate, so choosing a home above that rate may require a third party top up that has to be affordable for the duration. Ask each home precisely what the fee covers, because chiropody, hairdressing, escorted appointments and outings are frequently charged on top of it.

Frequently asked questions about care homes in Staffordshire

How many care homes are there in Staffordshire?

Staffordshire has 183 CQC registered care homes: 7 Outstanding, 117 Good, 36 Requires improvement, 23 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

How much does a care home cost in Staffordshire?

Staffordshire County Council pays an average of £941 a week for residential care. Self-funders are typically asked £1,219 to £1,579 a week. West Midlands figure, because too few Staffordshire homes publish this price. 30 homes. Median £1,398. Published prices are often starting prices, and come from homes that publish fees, so treat them as a guide. Ask the home for its own price.

Which care homes in Staffordshire were inspected most recently?

Compassionate Lodge (10 August 2026), The Old Post Office Residential Home (21 July 2026) and Amber House Residential Home (2 July 2026) have the most recent CQC reports.

Which residential care homes in Staffordshire are listed here?

183 residential care homes registered with the Care Quality Commission to operate in Staffordshire appear on this page. They range from small homes in converted houses to larger purpose built settings run by regional and national providers, including some registered to support people with learning disabilities in small group living. Each entry shows the provider name, its registered care type and its current inspection rating where one exists. Opening a profile gives access to the full inspection report behind that rating.

What should I ask on a visit to a care home in Staffordshire?

Ask how many staff are on shift by day and overnight, and how long the present team has worked at the home, because turnover shows up quickly in the standard of care. Ask what the home does when a resident becomes more unwell and whether it could keep caring for them or would need to arrange a move elsewhere. Ask to see a recent menu and a fortnight of activities, and find out how relatives are kept informed between visits. Confirm the weekly fee, what it includes, and what is charged separately.

How does a residential care home differ from a nursing home?

A residential care home provides accommodation with personal care, meaning support with washing, dressing, meals, medication and the routine of the day. A nursing home offers all of that but also keeps registered nurses on the premises at every hour to deliver clinical care. All the homes listed on this page hold residential registration rather than nursing registration. Where a registered nurse needs to be on site around the clock, a nursing home is the correct search to make.

Will Staffordshire County Council pay for a care home place?

It will contribute where a care needs assessment confirms residential care is required and a financial assessment places capital below the national threshold. The resident then pays an assessed contribution from pension and other income while the council meets the balance up to an agreed rate. If the chosen home charges more than that rate, a third party top up may be required to bridge the gap. The council can also explain how a property is treated and whether a deferred payment agreement might help.

How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Staffordshire?

Contact the adult social care team at Staffordshire County Council and ask for an assessment, which either the person concerned or a relative can request. It is free and open to anyone who appears to need care and support, with no savings test applied to the request itself. A practitioner will consider mobility, personal care, memory, nutrition and safety at home before advising on the level of care required. If the person is in hospital, the ward discharge team can begin the same assessment there.

How far ahead should we begin looking?

Begin while there is still time to compare homes properly, ideally once coping at home has become difficult but before a fall or an admission forces the pace. Well regarded homes in Staffordshire frequently keep waiting lists, and a rushed search tends to end with whichever vacancy happens to exist that week. An early start also lets the assessment and financial checks be completed without pressure. If a place is needed urgently, homes with immediate vacancies can be found, but the choice will be considerably narrower.
