About Us
Canal Lodge is a residential care home in Burton on Trent supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including people with visual or hearing impairment and younger adults. We also offer respite stays.
This is somebody's home before it is anything else. People choose how their rooms look, what they eat, when they get up and how much of the day they spend in company. Those choices are most of what makes a place worth living in, and they take steady effort to protect when staff change and pressures build.
Support is planned around what each person wants to be able to do rather than only around risk. Cooking, shopping, managing money, using the bus, getting to college, work or activities, and keeping up with family and friends. Where somebody needs a great deal of help, we still look hard for the parts they can take on themselves.
Communication and environment get real attention. We learn how each person tells us what they want, including those who use little or no speech, and we adapt to them. Where sight or hearing is reduced we keep things where people expect to find them and adjust how we approach and speak to somebody. Noise, lighting and predictability all shape how a day turns out.
Respite stays give families a break and give the person staying somewhere settled to come to.
Please get in touch if you would like to come and see us.

Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.

Ask the home. We do not know whether the home has rooms for couples. Ask about shared or adjoining rooms if this matters.
Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?
Ask the home. The home has not told us which funding it accepts. Most homes take both council funded and self funded residents; ask about council rates and any top up. Use our funding calculator to check what you might pay.
