About Us
Shoemaker Place is a residential care home in Stone, Staffordshire, supporting older people including those living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss.
Day to day, our work is about keeping life recognisable and comfortable. Helping somebody get up and dressed in the way they prefer, serving food they actually look forward to, making sure the television or the radio is on the station they like, and giving time to conversation. For people living with dementia, we focus on what is still there rather than what has gone, and we build the day around the person's own pace.
Where somebody has a physical disability or lives with sight or hearing loss, we pay attention to the practical detail. Equipment that is right for the person, belongings kept where they are expected, and information given in a form that can actually be received.
Respite stays are available too, whether a family carer needs a planned break or someone needs support for a few weeks.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather be straightforward about that than hide it. Work is under way on the areas identified, and we are happy to talk through with any family exactly what has changed. Please come and visit, ask us anything, and form your own view.
