About Us
The Old Vicarage is a residential care home in Stoke on Trent supporting older people, including many living with dementia, and adults living with a physical disability. We also welcome respite guests.
We run the home as a household. People get up when they are ready, eat what they want and spend the day as they choose, whether that is in company or quietly on their own. Staff learn residents' histories rather than just their needs, and in this part of the world there is usually a great deal of history to learn, much of it about the potteries, the families and the streets people grew up in.
Dementia care is a large part of our work. We keep routines familiar, the building calm and the staffing as consistent as we can manage. We follow the person rather than correcting them, and when someone is distressed we look for the cause instead of treating the distress as the problem. Relatives usually know what helps, and we ask.
For residents living with a physical disability we pay close attention to seating, equipment and how the building works, since independence tends to rest on very practical things being right.
Respite guests receive exactly what permanent residents receive.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good.
