About Us

Copperdown is a residential care home in Rugeley. We care for older people who need help with daily living, including people living with dementia, people with mental health needs and people with physical disabilities, and we offer respite stays.

Our everyday work is the ordinary business of a household run well. Help with washing, dressing and moving about at the person's own pace and as privately as possible. Medication managed properly. Meals cooked here with real choice. Rooms that people make their own with their own furniture and pictures. Company when it is wanted and quiet when it is not.

We should be open about where we stand. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement overall. We did not dispute the findings. Since then we have strengthened staffing and supervision, tightened how we manage medicines and the records we keep, and had senior staff check the care actually being given rather than the care described on paper. That work is continuing and we are not going to claim it is finished.

We would far rather raise this ourselves and answer questions about it honestly than leave a family to discover it later, and we are glad to go through the detail with anyone who asks.

Anyone considering the home is welcome to visit, see how things are now, talk to the people who live here, and ask us anything at all.
