    • Home Care

Great North Home Care supports people in their own homes across Newcastle upon Tyne. We work with older people and younger adults, with people living with dementia, with people who have learning disabilities and autism, with people managing mental health conditions and with people who have physical disabilities or a visual or hearing impairment. Our work happens in other people's houses, which sets the terms of it. The person we visit is at home and we are there by invitation. What time the day starts, how the kitchen is arranged, what help is welcome and what would feel like interference are theirs to decide. Support ranges from a single call that makes the morning manageable to several visits a day covering personal care, medication, meals, household tasks and getting out of the house. We try to send the same small group of carers to each person, because trust takes time to build and because familiar staff are the ones who notice a change early enough for it to matter. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We are happy to have an unhurried conversation about what support would genuinely help before anything is arranged.

    • Home Care

We at Brisca Healthcare are proud to provide compassionate home care across Wingate and the surrounding communities of County Durham, supporting people to live safely, comfortably and independently in the place they know best: their own home. As a home care agency, we come to you. Rather than asking loved ones to move into an unfamiliar setting, our team travels throughout Wingate and the wider TS postcode area, bringing tailored support directly to the doorstep. This means residents can continue to enjoy the familiar surroundings of their neighbourhood, the comfort of their own armchair, and the routines and memories that make a house a home, whilst receiving the professional care they need. Our support is shaped around the individual, and we are experienced in a broad range of specialisms. For older people, including those living with dementia, we provide gentle, patient care that focuses on dignity, reassurance and maintaining meaningful daily routines. For younger adults and those with learning disabilities or autism, we work to promote independence, confidence and community participation in a way that respects each person's preferences and goals. We also support people living with mental health conditions, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments, adapting our approach so that communication and care feel natural, respectful and empowering. In practice, this means families can expect a service that listens first. Whether a loved one needs help with personal care, medication support, mobility, companionship or more complex daily assistance, we build a plan that reflects their history, their wishes and the rhythm of their life. For relatives, this often brings enormous peace of mind, knowing that a trusted team is checking in, offering practical help and providing warm human contact throughout the week. Families researching care providers naturally want reassurance about quality, and we are pleased that the Care Quality Commission rated us Good overall at our most recent inspection on 14 August 2025. We achieved a Good rating across every domain assessed, including Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well led. This consistent picture reflects the values we hold dear: safe practice, effective support, genuine kindness, responsiveness to changing needs, and thoughtful leadership that keeps our team focused on what matters most, the people we care for. Choosing home care is a significant and often emotional decision, and we understand that no two families arrive at this point in quite the same way. If you are exploring options for yourself or someone you love in Wingate or the surrounding area, we warmly invite you to get in touch. We are happy to talk through your situation, answer your questions and help you understand how the right support at home can make all the difference.

    • Home Care

We support autistic adults and adults with learning disabilities in their own homes in Chester Le Street and across County Durham. Most of those we work with are younger adults. We have kept our focus deliberately narrow, and we think that is worth saying plainly rather than presenting ourselves as able to do everything. Supporting autistic people well asks for a specific kind of patience and a specific kind of consistency, and we would rather be genuinely good at that than adequate across a much wider range. Predictability is central to this. Being exactly where we said, at the time we said, doing what was agreed, matters more than almost anything else we could offer. Improvising is rarely helpful, and changes get explained well in advance rather than sprung on people. We begin with what the person wants their life to look like rather than with a list of tasks. Our aim is to make it possible for somebody to do things themselves and then to step back: cooking, managing money, getting to a job or a course, travelling independently. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would rather be judged on what the people we support say about us than on the rating.

    • Home Care

St Anne's supports adults living with learning disabilities and autism in their own homes across Durham and County Durham. Support at home should widen a life rather than manage it down, and that principle decides most of what we do. We begin with what a person wants their week to contain, what they can already do, where they would like to become more independent and where they genuinely need somebody alongside them. The plan follows from that, rather than starting with a list of tasks and fitting the person around it. Day to day our staff help with the ordinary business of running a home and a life. Cooking, shopping, money, appointments, travel, college, work and keeping up with family and friends, alongside personal care where it is needed. Communication is planned around each individual, because choice only becomes real when somebody is properly understood, and we take change at a pace people can manage. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We welcome enquiries from people considering support for themselves, from families and from the professionals working alongside them.

    • Home Care

We at Clover Group North East are proud to offer compassionate home care across Middlesbrough and the surrounding areas of the North East, supporting people to live well within the comfort and familiarity of their own homes. Based in the TS postcode area, our team is ideally placed to reach individuals and families throughout Middlesbrough and its neighbouring communities. Delivering care in someone's own home means every visit takes place in the environment they know best, surrounded by their own belongings, memories, and routines. We believe this familiarity is one of the most powerful contributors to wellbeing, dignity, and peace of mind, and it shapes everything we do as we travel to each person we support. Our specialisms reflect the diverse needs of the people we care for. We provide dedicated home care for adults living with learning disabilities and autism, offering support that respects individual communication styles, sensory preferences, and daily routines. For those with physical disabilities, we focus on practical assistance that promotes independence, whether that means help with personal care, mobility around the home, meal preparation, medication reminders, or simply being a reliable presence throughout the day. We also work extensively with younger adults, recognising that care at any stage of adulthood should empower goals, relationships, and personal ambitions rather than limit them. In practice, this means we take the time to understand each person as an individual before any care plan is agreed. Families can expect open conversations about what matters most, whether that involves maintaining hobbies, staying connected with loved ones, attending community activities, or building confidence with everyday tasks. For relatives who may live at a distance or juggle their own commitments, knowing that a familiar and trusted team is visiting regularly can bring enormous reassurance. As a newer entry on the Care Quality Commission register, our provision is currently listed as Not Yet Rated. This simply reflects the stage of our inspection journey rather than the standard of care we deliver each day. We remain fully committed to the principles the CQC upholds, including safety, effectiveness, responsiveness, caring practice, and strong leadership, and we welcome families to speak with us directly about how we work and the values that guide our team. If you are exploring home care options in Middlesbrough for a loved one, or considering support for yourself, we warmly invite you to get in touch. We understand that reaching out is often the hardest step, and we are here to listen without pressure, answer your questions honestly, and help you feel confident about the next stage of your care journey.

We provide care in people's own homes in Newton Aycliffe and across County Durham. Our purpose is to make it possible for people to stay where they are, with help that turns up when it should and is given by carers they know by name. We support older people needing assistance with washing, dressing, meals and medication, adults who have a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental health conditions, people with a physical disability and people whose sight or hearing is impaired. We also work with younger adults building independence at home. That breadth means we brief carers properly before they start with somebody. Arriving prepared, knowing how a particular person likes things done and what they would rather manage alone, is what separates support that helps from support that gets in the way. We keep teams small around each person, which matters for continuity and means changes get noticed early, whether that is a chest infection brewing or simply somebody eating less than usual. Everything starts with a home visit and a proper conversation about what is actually needed. The plan that comes from it is written in plain language, agreed rather than imposed, and reviewed as things move on. If you are looking at support at home in County Durham, please get in touch and we will come out and talk it through.

We provide care in people's own homes across Gateshead and Newcastle upon Tyne. Our purpose is to give people the support they need to carry on living where they want to live, at the times they have agreed and from carers they know. We visit older people needing help with washing, dressing, meals and medication. We support people living with dementia, where continuity of carer and a settled routine matter more than anything else we could offer. We work with adults who have a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental health conditions, people with a physical disability and people whose sight or hearing is impaired, along with younger adults building independence at home. That range means careful briefing before any carer starts with somebody new, and small teams around each person so the face at the door is familiar. Everything begins with a home visit and a proper conversation about what would genuinely help, with family involved if the person wants it. The plan is written plainly, agreed rather than imposed, and reviewed as needs change. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. • Home Care

We provide care at home in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Those we support include older adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, younger adults, and people living with eating disorders. Working across that range means we are careful about who we send as much as about how they are trained. Skill matters and so does manner. Somebody who has struggled with an eating disorder does not need a carer with opinions about food, and an autistic adult does not need one who improvises. Being the right person for a particular household is a real qualification, and we treat matching as central rather than administrative. Reliability is the other half of it. We keep rounds realistic, we do not agree to patterns of care we cannot properly staff, and we give notice when something has to move. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission, and we would rather state that plainly. Until then we are happy to be asked how we recruit, train and supervise our staff, and to be judged on what the people we already support say about us.

    • Home Care

We provide care in people's own homes across Sunderland. Our work is to give people enough support to keep living in their own houses, delivered reliably and by carers they recognise. Most of the people we visit are older and want help with the practical business of the day: washing and dressing, getting breakfast, taking medication properly, keeping on top of the house and getting out to appointments or the shops. We support people living with dementia, where a familiar carer and a predictable routine can decide how a day goes, along with people who have a physical disability, including safe help with moving and transfers, and younger adults needing support to live independently. Our carers live locally, which keeps travel sensible and timekeeping honest. It also means they often know the streets and neighbourhoods people have lived in for decades, and that makes conversation easier and the whole arrangement less formal. Care begins with a home visit and an unhurried conversation about what would genuinely help. We build the plan around the routine that already exists rather than replacing it, and we review it as things change. If you are considering support at home in Sunderland, please ring and we will talk it through.

    • Home Care

Eezz Staffing provides care in people's own homes across Hartlepool. We support older people and younger adults who need help to manage at home, and the aim is always the same: enough support to keep life going comfortably, and not so much that it takes over. What that looks like varies a great deal. For some people it is a short morning visit to help with washing, dressing and breakfast, and a look in later to check medicines have been taken. For others it is longer support through the day with meals, laundry, shopping and getting out and about. Some people want company as much as practical help, and there is no reason to pretend otherwise, because a visit where somebody actually sits down and talks is worth a good deal more than a visit that is over in five minutes. We plan visits with the person and, where they want it, with their family. That conversation covers the awkward details as well as the obvious ones, because how someone prefers to be helped with personal care is exactly the sort of thing that gets missed and then matters every single day. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep an eye on the basics that sit behind that rating, particularly timekeeping, continuity of the people we send, and whether our care workers feel well enough trained and supported to do the job properly.

Cherry Tree Gardens provides care and support for people living in their own apartments here in Houghton le Spring, with staff on site rather than travelling between visits. That makes a real difference, because help can be there when it is needed rather than only at a planned time. For older people we help with washing and dressing, medication, meals, laundry, shopping and getting out and about, and we keep an eye on the wider picture, raising changes in appetite, mood or steadiness early rather than waiting to be asked. For people living with dementia we keep familiar faces involved, work with the routine that already suits the person and avoid unnecessary change. For people with a physical disability we help with moving safely and with managing as independently as possible, and where somebody has sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate and take care not to move things without saying so. We also support younger adults. Having your own front door matters, and we try never to forget that this is somebody's home first and our workplace second. Support is agreed with the person, and with their family where they want that, and reviewed as things change. Please contact us if you would like to know more about how support here is arranged.

We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, where the emphasis is on independence and on communicating in the way that suits the person, and adults with mental health needs, where reliability and respect do most of the good. We help people with a physical disability to move safely and manage at home as independently as possible. Younger adults are supported around their own commitments rather than our rota. • Home Care

We are the short term support team in Berwick Upon Tweed, working with people in their own homes at the point where something has changed, often after a spell in hospital or a sudden loss of confidence. Our support usually runs for a set period and has a clear purpose, which is to help somebody get back to doing as much for themselves as they can rather than settling into long term care they may not need. We work with older people, people living with dementia, adults managing mental health conditions, people living with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss, as well as younger adults. Work of this kind only succeeds if it is honest. Sometimes somebody regains far more than anybody expected, and sometimes the right answer is that ongoing care is needed, and we say so plainly rather than stretching things out. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are proud of it and clear that a rating reflects a point in time. We also support people living with eating disorders and younger adults, who often want support that helps them get on with work, study or a social life rather than support that simply keeps them safe at home. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are proud of it and clear that a rating reflects a point in time rather than a guarantee. • Home Care

Quality First Care supports people in their own homes across Whitley Bay and the North Tyneside area. We visit older adults, younger adults, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people with loss of sight or hearing, and people managing mental health conditions. Our purpose is to make staying at home workable for longer, which for the great majority of the people we visit is what they want. The support might be a short morning call to help someone get up safely, or several longer visits across the day covering personal care, medication, meals and company. We find out which is genuinely needed by asking, and we arrange that, rather than fitting people into whatever we already run. Reliability is the part we take most seriously. A person waiting to be helped out of bed cannot usefully do anything else in the meantime, so we plan our rotas so that visits arrive when we said they would, and we keep the same carers with the same people wherever we can. Care plans are written in plain language, agreed with the person, and revised when their circumstances change rather than on a fixed cycle. If you would like to discuss support at home for yourself or a relative, please contact us and we will come out and talk it over.

    • Home Care

Social Return Case Management provides support at home to adults in Durham and the surrounding area. We support older people who need help to carry on living in their own houses, and younger adults who need support to live independently. A good deal of our work is with people whose needs are complex enough that a standard home care visit is not what is called for, and who need a carefully planned package of support built around them. Complex support at home depends on staff who are trained for the specific person rather than trained in general, and on a team that stays the same. Someone with significant needs cannot be supported safely by whoever happens to be free that day. So we build a small team around each person, train them for what that person actually needs, and keep them. The support itself ranges from personal care, medication and health needs to help with cooking, the household, getting to work or college and keeping up with family and friends. It is agreed with the person and changed when their circumstances change. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch to talk things through.

    • Home Care

Outreach Teeside supports adults in their own homes in Stockton on Tees and the surrounding area. We work with older people and younger adults, adults with learning disabilities and autism, and people who have sight or hearing loss. Our work is built around what the person wants their day to look like. For some that means a short call in the morning to help with washing, dressing, medicines and breakfast. For others it means fuller support across the day, covering meals, the household, shopping and getting out and about. For younger adults it is often about building the practical skills independent living asks for, from cooking and budgeting to managing appointments and using transport confidently, and there we count it a success when we are needed less. Where somebody communicates in their own way, we learn how they do it rather than expecting them to adapt to us. Where somebody has sight or hearing loss, we take the trouble to find out how they prefer to be approached and spoken with, which costs us nothing and changes how every visit feels. We keep the team around each person small, and we agree the plan with the person rather than writing it about them. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask the people we support whether we are getting it right, and we act when the answer is no.

    • Home Care

Boomerang Healthcare is a home care agency in Gateshead, supporting adults in their own homes across the area. The people we work with are a broad mix: older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, people with a physical disability, and people managing a mental health condition. That range means there is no single way of working, and we plan each person's support individually. The support looks quite different depending on who it is for. For an older person it is often about the parts of the day that have become difficult. For a younger adult with a learning disability it is more often about independence: cooking, managing money, keeping appointments, getting out and holding on to a tenancy. Where the aim is independence, success usually means somebody needing less from us over time. Support is agreed with each person in language they can follow, and revisited as circumstances change. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are arranging support at home locally, please get in touch.

    • Home Care

Mencap Teesside Domiciliary Care Agency supports adults in their own homes across the Stockton area. Our work is with adults who have a learning disability and with autistic adults, mostly younger adults, and we support older people too. It is aimed squarely at independence rather than at doing things for people. That might mean support with cooking, shopping, money, appointments and keeping a tenancy going, or help to get out, use local facilities, take up work or study and keep hold of friendships. The measure we care about is whether somebody's week contains things they chose and look forward to. If a person's life has quietly narrowed to the four walls of their flat while the paperwork says everything is fine, then the support is not working, however reliably the calls are delivered. We plan with each person in language they can follow themselves. Where somebody communicates without speech, we learn how. Where the week needs to be predictable, we keep it predictable. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are looking into support at home locally, please get in touch.

Interactive Development Support is based in North Shields and supports people in their own homes across North Tyneside. We work with older people, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental ill health, people with a physical disability and younger adults. A good deal of our work is less about personal care and more about making an ordinary life workable. Getting to college, work or activities. Running a household. Managing money, appointments and the paperwork that piles up. Keeping in touch with family and friends. For many of the people we support, having somebody reliable who turns up and who knows them is what holds a week together. Support is planned around what each person wants to be able to do rather than around risk alone. Where somebody needs a great deal of help, we still look for the parts they can take on, because independence slips away quietly unless it is actively protected. We keep asking whether we are doing more than is wanted, which is an easy habit to fall into. We learn how each person communicates, including those who use little or no speech, and we adapt to them. Predictability, noise and sensory needs all affect how a day goes, and we treat those as part of the support. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We visit older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Calls range from a short morning visit through to several a day, covering personal care, medication, meals, help to move about the home safely, shopping, appointments and company. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet been given an overall rating. We would rather set that out here than have a family come across it later, and we would encourage anyone considering us to meet the manager, ask for references and judge us on how we actually operate. Our starting point is how a person already manages. Most people have arranged their own days for decades and have firm views about what they want help with and what they would rather keep doing themselves. We fill in the gaps rather than reorganise a life that mostly works. If you are arranging care at home locally, please get in touch.

Watergate House provides care and support in people's own homes across Gateshead. We work with older adults, with younger adults, and with people living with dementia. Our purpose is straightforward: to make staying at home a realistic option when daily life has become hard to manage alone. The help covers washing and dressing, medication, meals and drinks, shopping, getting out to appointments, household tasks and company. What the visits actually look like depends entirely on the person, so we ask rather than assume. For people living with dementia we lean heavily on familiarity. The same carer, at a familiar time, in surroundings the person already understands, prevents more confusion and distress than anything else we could offer. Home has a real advantage here, because the rooms are already known and the habits are already in place, and our job is to support what exists rather than replace it. We also try to support families, because caring for a relative living with dementia is demanding work and it is often lonely. Plans are agreed with the person and revised when circumstances change. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us if you would like to talk about support in Gateshead.

Campbell Court provides care and support in people's own homes in Hebburn and across South Tyneside. Staying at home is what most people want, and our job is to make that a dependable option rather than one that gradually stops working. We support older adults with the everyday things that have become difficult: personal care, medication, meals, keeping the house running and getting out safely when they want to. We support people living with dementia, and we concentrate on continuity, because a familiar worker arriving when expected does more good than anything else we could arrange. We work with people living with mental health conditions, where a steady relationship and staff who notice early changes make the real difference, and with people who have physical disabilities, helping with washing, dressing and mobility while leaving the person deciding how it is done. We support people with a visual or hearing impairment, adapting how we announce ourselves and explain what we are doing, and younger adults, whose care fits around work, study, family and independence. We keep the number of different workers going to each person as small as we can manage, because trust is built through familiarity. We provide care at home in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Those we support include people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. A range this wide only works if you plan one household at a time. What helps somebody living with dementia stay settled at home has little in common with what helps a young autistic adult run their own flat, and running both through the same routine serves neither. For autistic adults and people with learning disabilities we are careful to be exactly where we said, at the time we said, doing what was agreed. Improvising is rarely helpful and changes are explained in advance rather than sprung. Where a person communicates differently, whether through sight, hearing or anything else, we sort that out properly at the beginning, because everything else we do rests on it. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask the people we support how we are doing and give the awkward answers more weight than the generous ones, because only those change anything.

It is about getting to work or college, keeping a flat running, managing money and appointments, seeing friends, and handling the parts of daily life that are genuinely difficult. We do those parts and leave the rest alone, even when doing it ourselves would be quicker, because taking over is easy and hard to undo. Where personal care is needed we provide it thoroughly and without fuss, and we work with GPs and community teams where specialist input helps. We match staff to people with care and keep those teams small and consistent, because the relationship is where the value lies. We provide care at home in Blaydon and across Gateshead, supporting older adults, people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss and younger adults. Being a local team is the practical heart of this. We know the streets and how long a journey really takes, which means we can build a round that works on an ordinary Tuesday rather than one that only holds together in theory. Arriving when we said we would is not a small courtesy when somebody is waiting to be helped out of bed. We aim our help at what has genuinely become hard and leave alone what somebody would rather keep doing themselves, because kindness is how independence usually gets eroded, one helpful act at a time. With dementia, consistency does most of the work: the same carer at the same time, in the same order, in a home where nothing has been rearranged. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask the people we visit what they think of us and act on the critical answers rather than the polite ones.

Many of those we support are younger adults who want help that steps back as they take on more themselves. Everything starts with a visit at home and a proper conversation, with family or an advocate present if that is wanted. The plan is written with the person, it records what matters to them and not only which tasks need doing, and it is reviewed when circumstances change. We keep rotas as consistent as we can and we tell people when we are running late rather than leaving them watching the window. Our support covers older people who need help with personal care, medication, meals and shopping, and adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, where predictable routines and clear information given in good time matter enormously. We support people living with mental ill health, where a routine that holds and a dependable presence can count as much as any clinical input, people with physical disabilities, taking care over equipment and over how somebody prefers to be assisted, and people living with sight or hearing loss. Many of those we support are younger adults who want help that steps back as they take on more themselves. Northumberland is a large and often rural county, so we plan our rounds around geography as well as need, and if we are delayed we ring rather than leaving somebody waiting. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are proud of that and clear that it has to be earned again every week. Please get in touch if you would like to talk about support at home.

    • Home Care

Care Link Northern provides care and support in people's own homes across Hartlepool. We work with older adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, and people managing mental health conditions. Our purpose is to make staying at home a realistic option when daily life has become hard to manage alone. Where we support people with learning disabilities and autistic people, the emphasis moves from care towards enabling. We keep the same small teams with the same households as far as the rota allows, and revise plans when circumstances change. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us to talk about support.

    • Home Care

We are Blessed Caring, and we support adults in their own homes across Sunderland. What we offer is straightforward: dependable visits from care workers who know you, at times that suit your day. Most of our work is with older people who want to carry on living at home and need a hand with the everyday business of getting through the day. That means help with washing and dressing, medication taken on time, a proper meal cooked, the shopping fetched, the laundry done, and getting out to appointments or into town with some company on the way. We also support younger adults who need help to run their own household and who want that help to reduce as their confidence grows. We visit and talk before anything begins, because a form will never tell you what really matters to somebody. We agree what the calls are for, what must not be missed and what the person would rather manage alone, and we write it down and review it honestly. We keep the rota as steady as we can so that people know who is coming, and if we are delayed we ring. Our care workers are recruited with full checks and references, trained before working alone and properly supervised. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission. Please ring us for an unhurried conversation.

    • Home Care

We are Creative Support in Teesside, providing support to people in their own homes in Stockton on Tees and the surrounding area. We work alongside adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and people with physical disabilities, and our starting point is that support should widen what someone can do rather than take it over. Much of our work is about ordinary life. We support people to manage their own home, to cook, to shop, to handle appointments and correspondence, to take part in activities they enjoy and to keep up relationships that matter to them. Where personal care is needed we provide it with proper regard for privacy and dignity. Where someone wants to take on more for themselves, we step back at their pace and stay available. We plan support with the person, in their words, and we involve families and other professionals when the person wants that. Communication is central to the work, so we take time to learn how each person expresses preferences and discomfort, and we adapt rather than expecting them to. Staff are trained for the people they support and are supervised properly. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. That matters to us, though the measure we return to is simpler. We ask whether the people we support in Teesside have more choice and more control in their lives because we are involved.

    • Home Care

We are Support Health and Wellbeing, and we provide care and support to adults in their own homes across Sunderland. We work with a broader range of people than many agencies, which is deliberate, because needs seldom arrive in one tidy category. We help older people with personal care, medication, meals and shopping, and we support adults living with dementia, where familiarity and a steady routine do most of the work. We support people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We also support adults recovering from eating disorders and people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug use, working alongside the clinical teams involved and without judgement, and younger adults building the confidence to run their own household. Supporting that range properly means being specific rather than general. Each package starts with a visit at home and a plan written with the person, and where risk is part of the picture we discuss it openly and look for ways to support somebody safely rather than simply refusing. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch to talk it through.

We are Dale Care in Newcastle, providing care in people's own homes and in extra care housing across Newcastle upon Tyne. Our work covers a wide span of need, from older people who want to stay independent at home to younger adults who need support to build and keep a life of their own. We support people living with dementia, people with a learning disability, autistic people, people with mental health needs, people with physical disabilities, people with sight or hearing loss, people living with an eating disorder and people recovering from problems with alcohol or drugs. With that range, no single way of working would do, so we plan each person's support individually and write it down in terms the person recognises. A visit may mean personal care, support with medication, meals and mobility, or help with household tasks and correspondence. It may equally mean support to get to work, to an appointment or to something a person simply enjoys. We review plans when circumstances change and we expect our carers to raise concerns promptly rather than wait. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We are pleased to hold it, and the measure that matters more to us is whether the people we support across Newcastle have more choice and more control in their own lives because we are involved.

Creative Support provides home care to adults in Gateshead and the surrounding area. We support older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autism, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. We also support people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug misuse. Our work rests on the idea that it is the person's home and the person's life, and that our role is to make that workable while leaving as much as possible in their hands. That means help with personal care and medicines where it is needed, and a good deal of time spent on the skills and routines independent living asks for: cooking, shopping, managing money, keeping up with letters and appointments, using transport, and dealing with whatever goes wrong in a household. It also means support to see family and friends and to get to work, college, groups or activities. Where somebody communicates in their own way, we learn how they do it. Where the day needs to be predictable, we keep it predictable. For people with mental health needs, and for people recovering from alcohol or drug misuse, reliability and an absence of judgement count for a great deal. My Home Care provides support to people in their own homes in Gateshead and the surrounding area. We work with people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autism, and people managing mental health conditions. Our work happens in people's own homes and on their terms. A visit might cover help with washing and dressing, medicines, cooking a meal and seeing that it is eaten, laundry and tidying, shopping, or support to get out to appointments, groups, work or simply to see people. How much of that is wanted, and when, is for the person to decide rather than for us to prescribe. We plan the support with the person, in their own words, and we keep the visiting team small so that faces stay familiar. For anybody living with dementia that continuity does most of the work, because an unexpected face at the door can unsettle an entire morning. Where somebody communicates in their own way, we learn how they do it rather than expecting them to adapt to us. For people with mental health needs, steadiness matters and so does noticing early when somebody seems less well than they were. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask the people we support directly whether we are getting things right.

Standby Healthcare provides support to people in their own homes across Newcastle Upon Tyne. We work with older adults, younger adults, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities, and people managing mental health conditions. A good deal of our work is about enabling rather than caring in the traditional sense. The aim is somebody running their own home, managing money and appointments, getting to work or college, and spending time with the people they choose. We do the parts that genuinely need doing for a person and leave the rest alone, even when doing it ourselves would be faster. Where somebody is managing a mental health condition, consistency and an absence of judgement matter more than any technique. We turn up when we said we would, we do not lecture, and we stay involved when things are difficult rather than only when they are going well. For older people we provide the more familiar pattern of help with personal care, medication, meals and keeping a household going. We visit older people and younger adults, people with a physical disability or a sensory impairment, people managing a mental health condition and people living with an eating disorder. Calls range from a short morning visit through to several a day, covering personal care, medication, meals, help to move about the home safely, shopping, appointments and company. Working in a smaller place gives us an advantage we try not to waste. Distances are short, our care workers know the roads and the shops and often the families, and it is realistic for the same few people to visit the same person week after week. Continuity is the single thing that makes home care feel like care rather than a rota arriving at the door. Support is agreed with the person, written in plain language and revisited when circumstances change rather than filed away. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We are here so that people can stay in the place they know, with their own things around them, and receive help at the times that genuinely suit them. Most of our work is with older adults. That can mean a short call to help with getting up, washing, dressing and medication, help with meals, shopping and keeping the house in order, or longer visits for people who need closer support and a bit of company through the day. We adjust how long and how often we come as needs change, rather than leaving an arrangement in place because it was agreed months ago. We support people living with dementia, where the most useful thing we bring is a familiar person who is not hurrying and who already knows how this individual likes things done. We also support younger adults, whose days are shaped by work, study, family or their own plans, and whose care should fit around those things. No two of these situations call for the same response, so we sit down with the person, find out what they want their days to look like and where help is genuinely needed, and build the visits from there. The support might be personal care, medication, meals, shopping, getting out of the house, household tasks, or simply company for somebody who lives alone and sees very few people. Living Well North is a home care agency in Gateshead, supporting people in their own homes across the area. We are here for people who would rather stay in the home they know, among their own things and neighbours, and who need the right support to make that safe and sustainable. We visit older people and younger adults. We support people living with dementia, people with mental health needs, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. A visit may involve personal care, help with medication, cooking a meal, support with mobility and moving safely about the home, household tasks and shopping, or company for someone who would otherwise spend the whole day alone. Some clients need one short call and others need several longer visits. We start by asking the questions that really shape a day, such as what time someone likes to get up, what they enjoy eating and what they want to keep doing for themselves. That becomes a written plan which we follow and revise as needs change. Keeping the same carers with the same clients is a priority for us, and our staff are trained for the particular needs of the people they visit. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. The better test is whether our clients feel respected and in charge of their own homes while we are there.

What does the day look like now, what has become difficult, and what does the person want to keep doing for themselves. From that we agree what support happens, when and who provides it, with family or an advocate involved whenever somebody wants them there. Visits can cover personal care, help with medication, meals and drinks, housework and laundry, shopping and errands, getting to appointments, and company for people whose days have become very quiet. We are stubborn about two things. Turning up when we said we would, and sending somebody who already knows the person and the household. Between them they account for almost everything that separates home care that helps from home care that is merely endured. If something is not working, we would much rather hear it early. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please give us a ring if you would like to talk things through.

Arranging and funding home care in the North East

With 423 home care agencies listed across the North East, families have a wide choice of support that keeps a loved one in their own home. Agencies in the region range from long established national names such as Home Instead and Comfort Call, to smaller local providers like Easterside Community Hub, Meadowvale Homecare and Nightingales Community Care Limited. The scale of the market is a strength, but it does mean spending a little time narrowing down providers that suit the person's routine, preferences and health needs.

What to look for in a good provider

Start with the Care Quality Commission rating. Across the North East you will find providers rated Outstanding, such as North STSS (Short Term Support Service) Alnwick and Northumberland Mid and North Domiciliary Care Agency, alongside a large number of Good rated agencies including Esteem Homecare Services, Routes Healthcare Sunderland and SureCare Newcastle and North Tyneside. Some agencies are listed as not yet rated, often because they are newer registrations, so it is worth reading their statement of purpose and asking how they train and supervise staff.

Matching the agency to the person

Think about the type of visits needed: short daily calls for medication and meals, longer personal care visits, or live in support. Ask whether the same small team of carers will attend, how visits are scheduled, and how the agency covers sickness or holidays. If the person has dementia, a learning disability or a physical disability, ask for examples of similar packages the agency runs. Providers such as Newcastle Learning Disabilities Service, Blyth Valley Disabled Forum and United Response - Newcastle DCA focus on particular groups, which can be helpful when needs are more specialist.

Choosing between home care agencies in the North East

Most home care packages begin with a conversation about what someone can still manage and where they need a hand. That conversation is formalised through a care needs assessment, which is free and open to any adult who appears to need support.

The care needs assessment

You can request an assessment from the local authority Adult Social Care team, either for yourself or, with consent, for a relative. A social worker or assessor will look at daily tasks such as washing, dressing, preparing meals, managing medication and getting out of the house. They will also consider the wellbeing of anyone providing unpaid care. The outcome is a written support plan setting out eligible needs and the hours of care recommended to meet them.

How funding usually works

After the needs assessment, a separate financial assessment looks at savings, income and certain benefits. If capital sits below the upper threshold set nationally, the local authority may contribute to the cost of care, either by commissioning an agency directly or through a direct payment that lets the person choose their own provider. Those with capital above the threshold are self funders and arrange the package themselves, though the local authority must still offer information and advice.

Typical cost context

Home care in the North East is generally charged by the hour, with higher rates for evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Live in care is priced as a weekly fee. Agencies usually publish an indicative rate and will confirm the exact cost after a home assessment, so it is sensible to gather two or three quotes from providers such as Helping Hands - West Northumberland, Thorncliffe Home Care or Vestra Homecare Sunderland before committing.

Which providers offer home care in the North East?

There are 423 home care agencies listed for the North East on Care Assura, covering every part of the region from Northumberland down to Teesside. Examples include Home Instead, Comfort Call Newcastle, Routes Healthcare Sunderland, Esteem Homecare Services and Meadowvale Homecare Ltd. Some, such as North STSS (Short Term Support Service) Alnwick, hold an Outstanding rating from the CQC. It is worth shortlisting three or four that cover your postcode and comparing how they staff and schedule visits.

What is the difference between a home care agency and a nursing service?

A home care agency provides personal and practical support in someone's own home, such as help with washing, dressing, meals, medication prompts and companionship. A nursing service, by contrast, delivers clinical tasks that must be carried out by a registered nurse, for example wound care, catheter management or complex medication administration. Some agencies employ both carers and nurses, while others focus solely on personal care and liaise with the district nursing team for clinical needs. Ask each agency exactly which tasks their staff are trained and authorised to perform.

What should I ask when meeting a home care agency in the North East?

Ask how visits are scheduled, whether the same carers attend regularly, and what happens if a carer is off sick or running late. Request to see the most recent CQC report and ask how the agency responds to any areas for improvement. Check how care plans are written and reviewed, and how the agency communicates with family members. Finally, be clear about pricing, including rates for evenings, weekends and any minimum visit length.

How do I arrange a care needs assessment in the North East?

Contact the adult social care team at the local authority that covers the person's home address and ask for a care needs assessment. The assessment is free, does not depend on income, and can be requested by the person themselves or by a relative or friend with their consent. An assessor will visit at home to discuss daily routines, health conditions and the impact on any unpaid carers. The outcome is a written support plan that can be used to shape a package of home care.

Can the local authority pay for home care in the North East?

The local authority can contribute to home care costs if the care needs assessment identifies eligible needs and the financial assessment shows capital below the national threshold. Support may be arranged directly with an agency or provided as a direct payment, which gives the person more choice over their provider. Those above the capital threshold usually self fund, though they can still ask the local authority for advice and, in some cases, for the council to arrange care on their behalf. NHS Continuing Healthcare is a separate route where needs are primarily health related.

How far in advance should I start looking for home care?

Where possible, begin looking four to six weeks before care is needed, particularly if hospital discharge or a change in a family carer's availability is on the horizon. This gives time for a care needs assessment, quotes from two or three agencies and a home visit to set up the care plan. In urgent situations many North East agencies can start within days, but choice may be more limited. Starting early also allows the person receiving care to meet potential carers and feel more comfortable with the arrangement.
