Much of our work is with people coming out of hospital or through a difficult patch, where the right help for a few weeks makes the difference between getting back on your feet at home and needing something more permanent. For older people we help with personal care, medication, meals and the practical running of a home, and we work towards a person doing more for themselves rather than less. That means encouraging somebody to try the stairs again, or to make their own breakfast, at a pace that is safe. We support people living with dementia, keeping staff and visit times as consistent as we can and working with the routine the household already has. We support adults with mental health needs, where reliability and respect do most of the good, and people with a physical disability who need help to move safely at home. Where somebody has sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate and explain what we are doing. We also support younger adults. We work closely with therapists, district nurses and doctors, because short term support only works if everybody is pulling the same way.
