Can Staffordshire County Council pay for care at home?

It can, where the care needs assessment shows that eligible needs are present and the financial assessment supports it. Support may arrive as a commissioned package or as a direct payment that lets the family choose their own agency. What home care in Stone actually looks like

Asking for a care needs assessment

Anyone who appears to need care and support can request an assessment, and it costs nothing to have one. A practitioner from Staffordshire County Council adult social care will look at daily tasks, safety, memory and mobility, then set out what support is needed and how often. The resulting record is useful even for a family paying privately, because it gives an agency a clear brief to quote against. A relative providing regular unpaid care can ask for a carer assessment in their own right, which sits alongside the main one.

Working out who pays

A financial assessment follows the needs assessment and looks at income and savings. For care delivered at home the value of the property a person lives in is not counted, which is a meaningful difference from residential care. Depending on the outcome, the council may arrange and contribute to the care, offer a direct payment so the family can choose the agency themselves, or confirm that the cost falls to the person receiving care.
