East Sussex is covered on this page by 215 care homes, each registered to provide accommodation together with personal care rather than visiting support in somebody's own house. The inspection outcomes are encouraging on the whole: the great majority have been rated Good, a smaller group are currently rated Requires Improvement, and an Outstanding rating appears among them as well. Assessing what a person needs, and deciding whether public funding will meet part of the weekly fee, falls to East Sussex County Council, which makes an early approach to them worthwhile whenever cost is likely to be part of the picture. Since the difference between two homes carrying the same rating can be considerable, treat the profiles as your starting point rather than your conclusion, and read each inspection report properly before arranging a visit, so that the questions you ask on the day are shaped by what inspectors themselves saw.

York Lodge is a residential care home in Crowborough. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia and people with visual or hearing impairment, and we offer respite stays. Sensory impairment is something we give deliberate thought to, because it is easily overlooked in a busy home. If somebody's sight is poor, furniture that gets moved and crockery that does not contrast with the table make life harder than it needs to be. If hearing is difficult, a noisy lounge can leave a person isolated in a room full of company. We train staff to adapt how they approach, speak and assist rather than expecting the person to cope. For residents living with dementia, familiarity does most of the work. Consistent staff, a predictable day, surroundings that stay where people expect them, and knowing something about a person's earlier life. Where someone is distressed we look for the reason behind it. Everyday life here is not elaborate. Good food, a warm and clean home, people who know you properly, and help that arrives before you have to ask twice. That is what residents and families tell us they actually wanted. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and look round York Lodge.

- Care Home
Here at Bernhard Baron Care Home, we provide residential and respite care for older people in the heart of Polegate, East Sussex. We are proud to have received a "Good" rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the genuine commitment of our whole team to providing care that treats every resident as an individual. We understand that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we do not take that trust lightly. From the moment someone walks through our doors, whether for a longer term stay or a period of respite, we want them to feel at home. That means getting to know the people in our care properly, understanding their routines, their preferences, and the things that matter most to them in daily life. Our team works closely with residents and their families to make sure care plans truly reflect each person's needs and wishes. We believe good care is built on honest conversations and genuine relationships, not just policies and procedures. Families are always welcome to be involved, and we encourage open communication so that everyone feels informed and reassured. Respite care is something we take particularly seriously. We know that a short stay with us might be someone's first experience of a care home, and we want it to be a positive one, whether that is for recovery after a hospital stay or to give a family carer some well earned time to rest. Life at Bernhard Baron Care Home is as full and comfortable as we can make it. We pay attention to the small things, good food, meaningful activity, and a warm atmosphere, because we know these are not small things at all to the people who live here.

Bishops Way is a care home in St Leonards on Sea. We provide residential care for adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people managing a mental health condition and people living with an eating disorder, mostly younger adults. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. A fair number of the people who come to us have had a difficult time before they arrive, and have often been moved around more than anyone should be. We do not treat that history as a verdict on somebody. What matters is how the person wants to live now and what support would make that possible, and every plan starts from a conversation about that rather than from a file. Stability is what we offer above anything else. The same staff, a routine that holds, and a team who will not withdraw when somebody has a bad week. Where somebody communicates in a way other than speech, we learn it properly rather than guessing, and routines stay steady with changes explained in advance. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please visit if you are considering a placement here.

- Care Home
Arundel Road is a residential care home in Eastbourne, supporting adults who have a learning disability or who are autistic, and younger adults, in an ordinary house rather than an institutional setting. We start by getting to know each person properly. That means learning how somebody communicates, what a good day looks like for them, what they find difficult and what they would like to be able to do for themselves. Support plans are written with the person, and with family or an advocate where that is wanted, and they change as people change rather than sitting in a file gathering dust. Independence runs through everything here. If somebody can do a thing themselves, or could learn to with patient backing, our job is to make that possible rather than to step in and take over. That might be cooking, managing money, using local transport, or getting out to something in Eastbourne that a person genuinely enjoys. Being part of the town matters, and we would rather people were out in it than sitting in a lounge. We also offer respite stays, giving family carers a planned break while their relative stays somewhere welcoming and well staffed. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are looking at options for yourself or someone you care about, you would be welcome to visit. Please get in touch and we will arrange a time.

- Care Home
Victoria House Care Home is a residential home in Polegate, East Sussex, looking after older people who need support with daily living. Dementia care is central to what we do. We keep the house calm and familiar, we give people time rather than moving them along, and we make sure staff know each resident's history and habits. Knowing who somebody has been tells you a great deal about how to help them now, and it is the difference between care that fits the person and care that merely completes the tasks. We want this to feel like somewhere people live rather than somewhere they have been placed. Residents bring their own belongings, keep their own routines, choose how they spend their time and see visitors whenever suits them. Meals are planned around what people actually enjoy, and there is company for those who want it and quiet for those who would rather step away. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places, whether to give a family carer a proper break or to support someone while they regain confidence after illness. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable hour and we keep them properly informed. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Please come and look round at a time that suits you and ask us whatever you need to ask.

At Homelea, we are proud to be a care home at the heart of the Eastbourne community, offering a warm and welcoming environment where residents feel genuinely at home. Based in East Sussex, we support a wide range of individuals, including older adults, younger adults, and those living with dementia or mental health needs. We also offer respite care for those who need a short term stay, whether that is to recover, to give a family carer a break, or simply to try residential care before making a longer term decision. We understand that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a person or family can make, and we do not take that lightly. From the moment someone walks through our door, we want them to feel listened to and respected. Every resident has their own story, their own preferences, and their own way of doing things, and we work hard to make sure that individuality is honoured rather than overlooked. Our team takes time to get to know each resident properly, building relationships built on trust, familiarity and genuine warmth. Whether it is supporting someone through the later stages of dementia, helping a younger adult maintain their independence, or simply being a friendly face at mealtimes, we are here to provide thoughtful, person centred support every day. We are pleased that our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission resulted in an overall rating of Good, which reflects the effort our whole team puts in to maintaining high standards across every area of the home. If you would like to find out more about life at Homelea, or if you are considering care for yourself or a loved one, please do get in touch. We at Rookhurst Lodge are proud to offer specialist residential care in the coastal town of Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex. Our home provides a warm, supportive environment where adults living with learning disabilities, autism and physical disabilities can thrive, feel valued and enjoy a genuine sense of belonging. Nestled within the welcoming community of Bexhill on Sea, our home benefits from the calm, restorative atmosphere that this well loved seaside town is known for. The surrounding area of East Sussex offers a gentle pace of life, with easy access to local amenities, green spaces and the coast, all of which contribute to the sense of peace and possibility we work hard to create within our walls. Inside, our aim is to feel like a home rather than an institution: comfortable, familiar and shaped around the people who live here. Our specialisms sit at the heart of everything we do. As a residential care home supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism and physical disabilities, we understand that no two people are the same. We take time to get to know each resident properly, building an individual understanding of their preferences, routines, communication style and aspirations. For younger adults in particular, we recognise how important it is to support independence, personal growth and social connection, whilst offering the reassurance of skilled care whenever it is needed. In practice, this means our team works closely with residents, families and healthcare professionals to develop personalised support plans that evolve over time. Daily life is built around meaningful activity, choice and dignity, whether that involves developing life skills, pursuing hobbies, spending time with friends or simply enjoying quiet moments in familiar surroundings. We also offer respite care, giving family carers a well earned break in the knowledge that their loved one is being looked after with genuine warmth, respect and professionalism during their stay with us. For families, this approach offers something invaluable: peace of mind. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we never take that trust lightly. We keep communication open, welcome involvement from relatives and friends, and work hard to ensure that every resident feels heard, safe and understood. Our focus on person centred care means that families can feel confident their loved one is being supported as an individual, with their voice at the centre of every decision. We are proud to hold an overall Good rating from the Care Quality Commission following our most recent inspection. This rating was awarded across all five key areas assessed by the regulator, meaning we were recognised as Good for being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. For families, this consistent picture across every domain offers reassurance that the quality of care, the culture of the home and the leadership behind it all meet the standards you would rightly expect. We see this rating not as a finish line but as a foundation, and we continue to reflect, learn and improve so that the experience of living at our home keeps getting better. If you are exploring residential or respite care in Bexhill on Sea or the wider East Sussex area for an adult with a learning disability, autism or physical disability, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please feel free to get in touch to ask questions, arrange a visit or simply talk through what you are looking for. Choosing the right home takes time, and we are here to support you every step of the way with honesty, kindness and care.

76 Canute Road is a small residential home in Hastings, East Sussex. We support adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, and adults living with a mental health condition. Most of the people here are younger adults, and respite stays are available alongside permanent places. The first thing worth saying is that this is a house on a road, not an institution. The people who live here have their own rooms and their own belongings and a genuine say in how a week looks. Support plans are agreed with the person and written in language the person can read. Staff are matched to people with some thought rather than allocated to whoever is on shift. Support means doing things with people and not to them. Cooking, shopping, budgeting, travel, appointments, keeping in touch with family. Where mental health is the central issue, the work is mostly patient and ordinary, including keeping a routine steady when somebody is unwell and noticing early when things are sliding, without making a crisis of it. Where somebody needs predictability in order to feel safe, we hold it consistently. Hastings has the sea, the old town and plenty going on, and getting out into it is treated as ordinary life. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and meet the people who live here.

25 Alexandra Road is a small residential care home in St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism alongside older people who need residential care. Because the house is small, it can be shaped around the people who live in it rather than around an organisation's routine. Support is planned individually. It can include help with personal care, medication, cooking, laundry, managing money and getting to appointments, and it takes in the parts of life that matter just as much: friendships, going out, keeping up an interest, having something worthwhile in the week. We communicate in whatever way suits each person, and we give people the time to do things their own way rather than stepping in for the sake of speed. Where somebody wants more independence, support is planned to draw back as their confidence grows. We support younger adults as well as older residents, and we do not assume people want the same things simply because they share a roof. Respite stays are available, giving family carers a real break and letting somebody try the house first. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit, meet the people who live here and see how the household actually works.

Hartfield House Rest Home is in Eastbourne, and we care for older people who are finding it hard to manage alone but who do not need nursing care. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and the ordinary business of the day, without taking over the parts somebody can still do themselves. What we care most about is that this feels like a home rather than a place where people are kept. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they sit, what they watch and whether they want company or their own quiet room. Nobody is moved along to suit a timetable. Meals are cooked here and we ask people what they actually want to eat. Visitors are welcome without appointment, and families are free to stay for a cup of tea or take a relative out for the afternoon. Being in Eastbourne means the sea front is close by, and getting out for some air is part of ordinary life here rather than a special outing. We also offer respite stays. These can give a family carer a genuine rest, help somebody regain strength after illness, or let a person see what living here is like before making any lasting decision. Come and see us and ask us anything you want.

Grangemead is a residential care home in Hailsham, East Sussex, supporting adults who need help with daily living in a place that feels like a home rather than a unit. The people who live here are a varied group. Some are older adults who need help with personal care, mobility and medication. Some have a learning disability or are autistic. Others are managing mental health conditions, living with a physical disability, or have a visual or hearing impairment. We support younger adults as well as older people, and what holds it together is treating everyone as an individual with their own history, preferences and opinions. We start with the person. We find out how they communicate, what they want help with, what they would rather do themselves and what matters enough to be worth protecting. Support plans are agreed with them, and with families or advocates where that is wanted, and we change them as circumstances change rather than leaving them to go stale. We also offer respite stays, giving family carers a planned break while their relative stays somewhere welcoming and properly staffed. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We are pleased with that, though the thing we watch most closely is whether people living here are content with their days. Eastbourne Grange is a residential care home in Eastbourne. We support older people who need help with daily living, and we take respite bookings for families needing a short break or for somebody who needs a period of extra support after illness or a hospital stay. We try to keep the home feeling domestic. People wake in their own time, keep their own belongings around them, decide how the day goes and are not rushed through anything. Meals are meant to be enjoyed rather than got through, and visitors are welcome through the day without arranging it first. Being near the sea matters to a good many of our residents and we make use of it. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement overall. We would rather tell you that plainly than have you come across it somewhere else. We know which areas were flagged, work is under way, and we will go through it honestly with any family considering us or already trusting us with a relative. People making this kind of decision deserve straight answers far more than they deserve a polished paragraph. What we will always do is tell you when something has gone wrong and what we are doing about it, and raise it early when a relative's needs are changing. If you are looking at residential or respite care in Eastbourne, please come and see us.

Tablehurst Farm Cottage is a small residential care home in Forest Row, East Sussex, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. We also offer respite stays for people who need somewhere settled for a shorter period or whose family carer needs a rest. Life here is built around the people who live in the house rather than around a timetable. People have their own rooms, their own routines and a genuine say in how the day goes. Support is about making everyday things possible, whether that is cooking, shopping, managing money and appointments, keeping up with family, or getting out to an activity, a course or a job. We try to be careful about the line between helping somebody and taking over, because good intentions and a rush to get things done can quietly remove the very independence we are meant to be supporting. The rural setting matters. Being outdoors, having space and being involved in the practical life around us suits many of the people we support far better than a busier environment would. We pay close attention to how people communicate, which is not always through words, and we take the time needed to understand rather than assume. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep examining our own practice, particularly around choice and privacy. Grosvenor Park Care Home is a residential care home in Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex. We provide a home for older people, including many living with dementia, and we also support some younger adults and offer respite stays for shorter periods of care. We want this to feel like somewhere people live rather than somewhere people have been placed. Residents bring their own furniture and photographs, keep their own routines and decide how the day runs. Some are up early and want company and conversation straight away. Others want their own room, a newspaper and a quiet afternoon. Neither needs explaining to us, and we plan around the person rather than around what suits a rota. Supporting people living with dementia is a large part of what we do, and steadiness is what helps most. Familiar faces, routines that change only when there is a reason, patience when words are hard to find, and a genuine effort to understand what somebody means rather than what they managed to say. Families are closely involved because they often hold the history that makes sense of the present. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and we are glad to be asked about our staffing, our training and how we handle concerns. If you are considering a care home in this part of East Sussex for someone close to you, you are welcome to visit, look round properly, meet our staff and residents and ask us whatever you need to know.

We are a residential care home in Eastbourne, providing a home for older people and younger adults who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with loss of sight or hearing. Our aim is a settled house where help is close at hand without taking over somebody's life. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Where someone needs help with washing, dressing or moving about, we try to give it without hurry and without doing more of the task than is actually needed. Dementia care rests on knowing the person rather than following a procedure, so we ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits. Where sight or hearing is poor, small habits matter: saying who you are on coming into a room, speaking clearly and not moving things about without saying so. Meals are cooked here and we listen when somebody would rather have something different. Being near the sea is a plain advantage, and getting out for a change of view is part of ordinary life here when the weather allows. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. We do not yet hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission and are happy to discuss that openly. Please come and look round before deciding anything.

Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. The people who live here call this home, and that shapes everything. Rooms are personal and arranged the way each person wants them. Meals are planned with the people eating them. The garden, the shopping and the washing are shared parts of ordinary life rather than activities we organise to fill a timetable. We plan each week around what the individuals living here actually enjoy, which for some means being out and busy and for others means quiet days with familiar company. Communication is where good support begins. Some of the people we support use speech, some use signs, symbols or technology, and some tell us what they need through behaviour rather than words. Our job is to learn each person's way of communicating and to record it clearly so that every colleague understands. Where change or noise is difficult, we prepare for it properly and give plenty of notice. We offer respite stays as well, which often gives someone a gentle way of getting to know us before any bigger decision is made. We keep families and social workers closely involved and we are straightforward with them, including when we disagree. You are very welcome to visit before making up your mind. Please contact us and we will arrange a convenient time.

- Care Home
Queensmead Residential Home is in Polegate, supporting older people and younger adults from across East Sussex, including people who have a physical disability. We are a residential home rather than a clinical setting, and we say so plainly because people deserve to know what they are choosing. What we provide is a household in which the practical difficulties of later life have been lifted off somebody's shoulders. Help with washing and dressing, given without fuss and in private. Medication managed properly. Meals cooked here and eaten at a table. Somebody awake through the night. Company when it is wanted and quiet when it is not. Where a physical disability is part of the picture, our attention goes to movement and independence. Accessible bathrooms, the right equipment, and staff who know how a particular person wants to be helped to transfer. Being left in a room because getting somebody out of it takes two people and ten minutes is the kind of small neglect that quietly shrinks a life, and we do not tolerate it. Most people move in after a hard stretch, so we take the first weeks slowly and learn how a person likes their day arranged before we start arranging anything. Routines matter a great deal more than people expect. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. Come and have a cup of tea with us and ask the residents what they make of the place.

- Care Home
St Saviours Road is a residential care home in St Leonards On Sea providing a home for a varied group of people: older adults, younger adults, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people with loss of sight or hearing, and people living with mental health conditions. That breadth works because we build support around the individual rather than around a label. One person may need help with almost every part of the day and another very little, and both live here on the same footing. We ask each person what a good day looks like for them, write it down in a form that makes sense to them, and change it when they tell us to. Communication gets particular attention, using speech, signing, symbols or simply the understanding that comes from knowing somebody well. For people with sensory loss we adapt how rooms are lit and how we approach and announce ourselves. People here are supported to get out to clubs, appointments and family. Respite stays are available. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Ash Grove is a residential care home in Bexhill On Sea. We care for older people who need help with daily living, including many people living with dementia and people with mental health needs, and we also support younger adults where we are confident we can meet their needs. Respite stays are part of what we do. We are a house rather than an institution and we work to keep it feeling that way. People bring their own furniture and photographs, keep their own hours, choose where to spend the day and get help with washing and dressing at their own pace and as privately as we can manage. Meals are cooked here with real choice at each one, and food matters a great deal to how people feel about a day. With dementia, knowing a person well is what makes the difference. We gather somebody's history with their family when they arrive and keep adding to it, so that staff respond to the person rather than to a set of behaviours, and we keep the rhythm of the day predictable. Where somebody is managing a mental health condition we try to be steady and clear, because people tell us consistency helps more than reassurance. We keep an eye on health without turning the place into a clinic and tell families honestly what is happening. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated the home good overall.

Care plans are shaped together with residents and their families, ensuring that daily life feels meaningful and personally fulfilling rather than routine. We focus on building confidence, encouraging independence wherever possible, and creating opportunities for residents to engage in activities that matter to them. Greenwood is a residential care home in Bexhill on Sea supporting older people, including adults with learning disabilities and autism, people with physical disabilities and people who have sight or hearing loss. We also offer planned respite stays. We treat this as a home first and a care setting second. The people living here have their own rooms, their own routines and a genuine say in how the place runs, and our staff fit around them rather than running everybody to one timetable. Support covers personal care, medicines, meals, money and the practical work of a household, and we stand back wherever somebody can manage without us. The detail is where most of the real work lies. How a person communicates, what makes an environment feel manageable, how much warning they need before something changes, which parts of the day they want to handle alone, and how they want to be helped with a physical disability are all things we learn from the person rather than assume. Where somebody has sight or hearing loss, we take care over how we approach and speak with them. Respite stays give family carers a proper rest and let people see what we are like before making a longer decision. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit, and talk to the people who live here.

We at Jemini Place are proud to offer a welcoming residential care home in Hailsham, East Sussex, where adults with learning disabilities and autism can truly feel at home. Our setting has been thoughtfully created to support younger adults living with complex needs, providing a place where individuality is celebrated and every resident is encouraged to live life on their own terms. Nestled within the peaceful surroundings of Hailsham, our home benefits from the calm and community feel that this part of East Sussex is known for. The BN postcode area offers a lovely balance of countryside tranquillity and easy access to local amenities, giving residents the best of both worlds. Inside, we have created a comfortable, homely environment where familiarity and routine help our residents feel safe, whilst spaces to socialise, relax and pursue personal interests encourage independence and confidence. Our specialisms lie in supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism, and we also welcome younger adults who benefit from a bespoke approach to daily living. In practice, this means our team takes the time to truly understand each person, their communication style, their preferences and the things that bring them joy. We build care around the individual rather than expecting the individual to fit into a set routine. Families can feel reassured that their loved one will be supported to develop life skills, engage in meaningful activities and maintain the connections that matter most to them. We also offer respite care, which can be a lifeline for family carers who need a short break, or for individuals who would benefit from a temporary stay in a supportive environment. Whether the visit is planned well in advance or arranged at shorter notice, we work closely with families to ensure the transition feels smooth, safe and positive for everyone involved. Our commitment to quality is reflected in our latest CQC inspection, where we were rated Good overall, with Good ratings across all five domains of Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well led. For families, this rating offers meaningful reassurance that the care provided here meets the standards expected by the regulator, and that our team is working diligently to safeguard wellbeing, support positive outcomes and lead the home with integrity. Choosing a care home for someone you love is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that responsibility. We warmly invite families in Hailsham and the wider East Sussex area to get in touch, ask questions and arrange a visit to see for themselves the kind, person centred support we offer at Jemini Place. Whatever your loved one's needs, we are here to listen, to guide and to help you feel confident about the next step.

Westwood is a residential care home in Hastings, East Sussex. The people living here include older people and younger adults, people with a learning disability or autism, people with a physical disability and people managing mental health conditions. Respite stays are available. Because the people living here need quite different things from us, support is planned with each person rather than run to one pattern. People have their own rooms, their own belongings and their own routines, and they have a real say in how their days go. We are careful about the difference between helping somebody and doing things for them, because independence is easily worn away by help that arrives in too much of a hurry, and we take the time needed to understand how each person communicates. We should be straightforward with you about where we stand. Our most recent overall judgement from the Care Quality Commission was that we require improvement. We accepted the findings rather than arguing with them, we have a plan of work in place and we are progressing it alongside colleagues in health and the local authority. Families deserve to hear that from us directly rather than discovering it later. If you are considering Westwood for yourself or someone in your family, please come and visit, speak to our staff and the people living here, and ask us exactly what the concerns were and what we have changed. We will answer plainly.

Holm Lodge is a residential care home in Lewes. We provide residential care for older people together with respite stays for those who need a short break. We do one thing and we try to do it well. There is no nursing unit here and no specialist wing. What we offer is a comfortable house where older people are looked after properly, treated as adults and left in charge of their own days as far as they are able. That starts with asking. When somebody moves in we want to know their history, their preferences, their worries and their routines, and we write it down so that every member of staff knows it rather than only whoever carried out the assessment. It continues with small things done reliably. Meals people actually want, help offered discreetly, laundry back where it belongs, a hairdresser when it is wanted, the garden used when the weather allows. Families are part of it. Visitors come and go through the day, can stay for a meal, and are kept properly informed rather than telephoned only when something has gone wrong. Lewes and the surrounding villages are home for most of our residents, and we support people to keep up with the friends, clubs and churches they have always had. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the home, ideally without arranging it first.

Prideaux Lodge is a residential care home in Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex, for older people who need care, company and a settled place to live. We are a house rather than an institution, and we would like the people here to feel that it is theirs. Our care is residential rather than nursing. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals, mobility and company, calling in community health professionals whenever something more clinical is needed. We support residents living with dementia, and the things we rely on are unglamorous and effective: familiar staff, a routine that stays the same, food people recognise and reassurance repeated as often as it is wanted. We keep an eye on the quiet signals, whether somebody is eating and sleeping properly or seems more withdrawn than usual. Respite stays are available too, giving family carers a genuine rest and letting a prospective resident spend time here before any permanent decision is made. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We treat that as a standard to hold rather than a badge to point at. Here at Lynfords, we are a care home based in Hailsham, East Sussex, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism, as well as those who need residential care or a short respite stay. We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we take that responsibility seriously. Our team works to create an environment where the people we support feel genuinely at home, where their routines are respected, their voices are heard, and their individuality is celebrated rather than overlooked. Our work with people who have learning disabilities and autism is something we approach thoughtfully. We understand that each person communicates and experiences the world differently, and we put real effort into knowing each individual well enough to support them in a way that actually makes sense for them. For those joining us for respite, we aim to make even a short stay feel comfortable and familiar rather than unsettling. We want to be straightforward with anyone considering Lynfords. Our most recent CQC inspection resulted in a "requires improvement" rating, and we are not shying away from that. We have taken the findings seriously and are actively working through the areas identified, making changes that we believe will make a genuine difference to the quality of care we provide. We feel it is important that families have that information clearly rather than discovering it elsewhere. Hailsham is a community we are proud to be part of, and the people we support are at the centre of everything we do here. Streatfeild House is a residential care home in St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex. We support older people and younger adults, and the people who live here have a wide range of needs. We care for residents living with dementia, residents with learning disabilities and autism, residents living with mental health conditions and residents with physical disabilities. Running one routine and expecting everybody to fit it would not work, so we do not try. Somebody who wants a quiet and predictable week should be able to have one. Somebody who wants to be out and busy should be supported to be. We work out what suits each person, we write it down properly so support does not change with the shift rota, and we revisit it as people change. Whatever the need, this is somebody's home. People decide how their room looks, what they eat, when they get up and how they spend the day. Care is given discreetly and with proper respect for privacy, and we support people to keep doing whatever they still can for themselves. Families are welcome and we keep relatives informed rather than waiting to be asked. Respite stays are available as well, giving family carers a planned break and giving the person staying some different company. Nova House is a residential care home in Seaford, East Sussex, supporting older people. We offer permanent places and respite stays. We try to run the home the way a household runs rather than the way an institution does. People get up when they are ready. They keep their own belongings, their own routines and their own opinions about the television. Meals are worth sitting down to and worth having a view about. Where somebody can manage a thing themselves, we support rather than take over, even when doing it for them would be quicker. The weeks after a move matter more than anything that follows, so that is where we put our attention. We want to know what somebody did for a living, who is important to them, what they like to eat, when they prefer to wake and what turns a bad day around. None of that arrives on a form. It comes from sitting down and asking, and from listening to families. Respite stays give a family carer a break that is genuinely a break. Cornfield House is a residential care home in Seaford, East Sussex. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people with learning disabilities and autism, people managing mental health conditions and people affected by alcohol or drug misuse. A house shared by adults with such different needs only works if difference is expected rather than merely put up with. Our residents do not want the same day as one another. Some want company from breakfast onwards, others appear in the afternoon and prefer their own company until then. Some need a great deal of practical help, others mainly need a settled base and staff who know them properly. Running the place well means holding all of that at once without letting the loudest need crowd out the quietest person. Several of the people who live here have had a difficult time before arriving, so we put weight on consistency and on being straight with people. A long stretch in which nothing goes badly wrong is a real achievement rather than a modest one. Respite stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Springbank House is a residential care home in Bexhill on Sea providing a home for older people and for younger adults who need support with everyday living, including people living with mental health conditions. We offer permanent places and shorter respite stays. We work at the pace of the people who live here. Breakfast happens when somebody wakes rather than when a trolley comes round, and the day is shaped by what a person actually wants from it. The care covers washing and dressing, medication, meals cooked on the premises, support with mobility, and somebody always about when a person needs them. For people managing mental health conditions, a calm and predictable household does more good than any particular intervention. Our staff tend to stay, which means people here are looked after by faces they know, and that steadiness matters a great deal when mood is unreliable. Families are welcome whenever they want to come, and we would much rather hear a concern early than have it sit unspoken. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Caroline House is a residential care home in Hailsham, East Sussex. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, and respite stays are part of what we do. We let residents set the pace. Late risers rise late, meals stretch across the morning, and an empty afternoon is a legitimate choice rather than a gap to fill. Dementia care here depends on knowing the person. We ask relatives early for the working life, the places and the music, because that information is much harder to gather later and it is what still connects when a good deal else has gone. Food gets more thought than people expect. Appetite is often the first thing to go, and a meal that arrives cold, or at a time nobody is hungry, or needing help that has not come, quietly becomes a meal not eaten. When somebody is nearing the end of their life we try to get the small things right: familiar faces, a quiet room, family made welcome at any hour, and no unnecessary fuss. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Relatives who visit often notice what we have stopped seeing, and we would rather they told us plainly.

Eridge House is a residential home in Bexhill on Sea, providing care for older people who need support with daily life but still want a say in how their days are spent. We are a home first and foremost, and we work hard to keep the atmosphere relaxed and unhurried. Our team helps with the things that have become harder over time, from washing and dressing to mobility, medication and making sure everyone eats well and drinks enough. Beyond that, a great deal of what we do is simply being present, sitting and talking, noticing when someone seems off colour and acting on it early. Older people often tell us that what they miss most is company and conversation, so we make time for it. Meals are cooked here and we take requests seriously. People choose when to get up, where to sit, and whether to join in with what is happening in the lounge or keep to their own room with a book and the radio. Family and friends can visit and are always welcome to stay for a cup of tea. We also offer respite stays for those who need care for a short while, perhaps after an illness or while a regular carer takes a break. If you would like to look round, please ring us and we will arrange a time that suits you.

Here at The Haven, we are a residential care home based in Peacehaven, East Sussex, and we support adults with learning disabilities and autism, including younger adults who need a place to feel genuinely at home rather than simply cared for. We offer both long term residential placements and shorter respite stays, which means we can support people at different points in their lives and give family carers a much needed break when the time comes. Peacehaven is a friendly coastal community and we think that environment matters. Being close to the sea, local amenities and green spaces gives the people we support real opportunities to live full, connected lives rather than being contained within four walls. We want to be straightforward with anyone looking at our home. Our most recent CQC inspection resulted in a requires improvement rating, and we take that seriously. We are actively working through the feedback we received and making the changes needed. We think it is important that families and prospective residents know this rather than gloss over it. What we can tell you is that the people here are committed to doing better, and that work is already underway. What we focus on day to day is getting to know each person properly. People with learning disabilities and autism often have very specific ways of communicating, very particular routines and preferences, and a history that deserves to be understood rather than managed. We try to build genuine relationships and create an atmosphere where people feel safe, respected and able to make choices about their own lives. If you would like to visit The Haven, ask questions or simply have a conversation about whether we might be the right fit for someone you care about, please do get in touch. We are always happy to talk.

Summer Wood Residential Care Home is in Bexhill On Sea in East Sussex, and we are home to adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, including younger adults moving into their first placement away from the family home. We think of this as a house that people live in rather than a service they receive. Everyone here has their own routines, their own interests and their own opinions about how things should be done, and a good deal of our work is simply making sure those count for something. People are involved in choosing meals, planning the week and deciding how their own rooms look and feel. Support is built around each person rather than around the building. Some of the people who live here want a full and busy week out in Bexhill and beyond, with college, work, clubs and time with family. Others prefer a quieter and more predictable rhythm, and that is an equally good way to live. For autistic people in particular we pay close attention to environment, noise, routine and warning of change, because those details make the difference between a day that works and one that does not. We also offer respite stays, giving families a planned break while their relative spends time somewhere calm and properly staffed. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. You are very welcome to come and look round before making any decision.

Ashington Gardens is a residential care home in Peacehaven supporting younger adults, including people who have a learning disability and people who are autistic. It is somebody's home before it is anything else, and we work to keep that order of priority clear. People have their own rooms arranged as they want them, they have a say in how the house runs and support sits underneath ordinary life rather than replacing it. What we provide ranges from help with personal care and medication to practical assistance with cooking, budgeting and appointments, to simply having reliable people nearby while somebody gets on with college, work or seeing friends. We want to be open about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are working through the points raised, with attention to record keeping, staff supervision and the consistency of support planning, and we would rather set that out ourselves and answer your questions than have you find it elsewhere. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Families across East Sussex are welcome to visit and ask us anything.

Orchardown Rest Home is a residential care home in Eastbourne, East Sussex, providing care for older people. We also welcome guests for respite stays, which can give a family carer a break or help somebody regain their confidence after a spell in hospital. We are a residential home rather than a nursing home, so life here is domestic in scale. People choose when to get up, where to spend the day and what they eat, and help with washing, dressing, medication and mobility is given when it is wanted, discreetly and without taking over. Nobody should feel they are being organised. Eastbourne suits our residents well. Many have lived in the town or along the coast for years, and getting out for a walk, a look at the sea or a cup of tea somewhere is part of ordinary life rather than an outing to be arranged. We keep families closely involved. Relatives often notice first when something has changed, and we would always rather hear from them early. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We are St Nectans Residential Care Home in Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex. We provide residential care for older people, both as a permanent home and as a respite stay for those who need support for a while. Residential care means helping with the parts of daily life that have become hard work and leaving everything else where it belongs, which is with the person. Washing and dressing, meals, medication, moving about safely, and the ordinary company that makes a day worth having. Where health needs go beyond our registration we work with district nurses and GPs rather than stretching to cover something we should not. A home of our size has an advantage worth mentioning, which is that staff genuinely know everybody who lives here. Not just the care plan but the preferences, the history and the small things that make a difference to somebody's day. That knowledge is what good care is actually built on. Respite guests are properly assessed and properly welcomed, whether they are with us while a family carer takes a break or recovering after a spell in hospital. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Clifden House Dementia Care Centre is in Seaford, and our work is focused on caring for older people living with dementia. Specialising in that way shapes everything, from how the day is organised to how our team are trained and how we talk with families. Good dementia care is mostly about continuity and understanding. We take the trouble to learn what somebody's life looked like before they came to us, what their routines were, what they enjoyed and what they always disliked, and we keep as much of that as we can. When somebody becomes distressed, our first question is what sits behind it rather than how to manage it, because distress is nearly always communication of some kind. We keep the day calm and predictable, with familiar faces and without unnecessary noise or hurry. Families often tell us that what reassures them most is walking in and finding their relative settled and occupied rather than waiting. Respite stays are available too, for family carers who need a genuine break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are looking for dementia care in this part of Sussex, please come and spend some time here and ask us anything you want to know.

Fairmount is a residential care home in Hastings supporting a mixed group of adults. Some of our residents are older people who need help with the practical parts of the day. Others are adults with a learning disability, autistic adults or younger adults who want support to get on with their own lives. That mix works because we plan for individuals rather than running one routine for the house. One person may want help to wash and dress and then to be left in peace. Another may want staff alongside them cooking, going out locally, getting to an appointment or sorting out something that has gone wrong. We pay attention to how each person communicates, what they find difficult and what helps them settle, and we build the plan with them and with the people who know them well. Our staff are trained in communication and in supporting somebody who is distressed. Everyday life includes cooking, shopping, keeping your own room how you want it, choosing how to spend the day and getting out into the town. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time. Respite stays are available and give family carers a genuine break while the person has a proper stay with us. Please contact us if you would like to come and look round.

Halland House is a residential care home in Lewes supporting adults with a learning disability or autism, with respite stays available as well as permanent places. For the people who live here this is home, and we try never to lose sight of that. People decide how their own day goes, what they eat, what they do and who they see, and our staff are here to make those decisions possible rather than to narrow them down. Some people want a full week with plenty going on, others want quiet and routine, and both are respected without argument. Where somebody is autistic, we pay attention to the things that are easy to overlook. Noise, light, warning before change, whether a room feels safe, how a request is phrased. We explain what is going to happen before it happens, keep the shape of the week consistent, and communicate in whatever form works for the person. If somebody becomes distressed, we treat it as something to understand rather than something to stop. We also support people to develop practical skills at their own pace, from cooking and laundry to handling money and getting about locally, because independence tends to grow when it is practised rather than talked about. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you would like to look round or discuss a placement, please contact us.

We at Homescare Peacehaven are a residential care home nestled in the coastal town of Peacehaven, East Sussex, offering compassionate residential care, dementia support, and respite provision for older people and younger adults alike. Our home sits within the welcoming BN postcode area, benefiting from the gentle sea air and community feel that define this stretch of the South East coast. Our setting has been thoughtfully arranged to feel like a genuine home rather than an institution. Peacehaven itself offers a peaceful backdrop, and residents enjoy the calming influence of a town that balances coastal charm with easy access to the wider Sussex region. Families visiting loved ones will find the location convenient, whilst those we care for benefit from familiar surroundings that support a sense of belonging and continuity. Our approach to care is shaped by the individuals who live with us. For older people, we focus on maintaining independence, dignity, and daily routines that reflect each resident's preferences and life story. Our dementia care is delivered with patience and understanding, recognising that every person's journey is unique. We work closely with families to build a picture of who their loved one is, so that memory difficulties never overshadow the personality and history that make each resident special. We also welcome younger adults whose care needs require a supportive residential environment, tailoring our support to promote wellbeing, choice, and meaningful daily engagement. For families needing a short term solution, whether following a hospital stay, during a carer's break, or simply to trial residential living, our respite care offers a warm and flexible option. Respite stays give peace of mind to family carers whilst ensuring their loved one experiences the same quality of attention as our permanent residents. Following our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection in February 2025, we received an overall rating of Requires Improvement. We believe in being open about this. The inspection recognised that our team performs well in the areas that matter deeply to residents and families: we were rated Good for being Effective, Good for being Caring, and Good for being Responsive. This reflects the warmth of our staff, the personalised nature of our support, and our commitment to meeting individual needs. The areas identified for improvement, relating to Safe and Well-led, are receiving our focused attention, and we are committed to strengthening these aspects so that every part of our provision reaches the standard our residents deserve. Transparency matters to us, particularly when families are making one of the most important decisions of their lives. We would rather share where we are on our journey than gloss over it, and we welcome conversations about the steps we are taking to improve. If you are exploring care options for a loved one in Peacehaven or the surrounding East Sussex area, we warmly invite you to get in touch. Visiting in person is often the best way to sense whether a home feels right, and we would be delighted to show you around, answer your questions, and listen to what matters most to your family. Choosing care is a deeply personal decision, and we are here to walk alongside you with honesty, kindness, and care.

We are a residential care home in Bexhill on Sea supporting adults with a wide range of needs. The people who live here include older people, younger adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities, autistic people, people with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with loss of sight or hearing. Supporting that range means paying attention to individuals rather than to categories. Some of the people here need a good deal of help with personal care, medication and moving about. Others need much less of that and a great deal more support with everything else: keeping to arrangements, managing money, getting out, handling the things that cause anxiety and having staff who know when to step in and when to leave well alone. So we start from what somebody wants their life to look like. People keep their own rooms and belongings, have a real say in how the house runs and choose how much they join in. Where somebody is living with dementia we spend time learning their history and habits, because knowing the person is what settles them when they are frightened. Where consistency matters, as it often does for autistic people, we keep staffing as settled as we can. Respite stays are available as well as longer places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and visit and ask us whatever you need to.

We are a residential care home in St Leonards on Sea, providing a home for older people, including those living with dementia. What we offer is fairly simple. Somewhere safe and comfortable to live, help with the parts of the day that have become difficult, and company for those who want it. We try hard not to let the running of the home take precedence over the people in it. Getting up, going to bed, meals and baths happen when they suit the person rather than when they suit the rota, as far as we can manage. People bring their own belongings and arrange their rooms as they wish. Dementia care asks for patience above all else. We keep the day predictable and the atmosphere unhurried, and when somebody is anxious or confused we stay with them and let it pass rather than arguing the point. Knowing something of a person's earlier life helps enormously with this, so we ask families to tell us. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable time, and we would far sooner hear from them often than rarely. We offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Peasmarsh Place is a residential care home near Rye in East Sussex, caring for older people who need daily support that can no longer be managed at home. We offer permanent residential places and respite stays for those needing a shorter period of care, including families who provide care themselves and need a proper break. We try to run this as a household rather than an institution. People get up when they wake, eat what they actually want to eat, and keep hold of the small habits that make them who they are, whether that is a particular chair, a particular newspaper or a turn around the garden before breakfast. Our staff learn those details early, because they are usually the things that matter most. Help with washing, dressing, medication, mobility and meals is there whenever it is wanted, and offered rather than imposed. Whatever somebody can still manage themselves, they should, and our job is to keep that possible for as long as we can. Families are welcome here without ceremony. Visitors come at times that suit them, we keep relatives informed rather than waiting to be asked, and we are honest when something has gone wrong as well as when things have gone well. Tinkers Hatch is a residential care home in Heathfield in East Sussex. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities and people with physical disabilities, and we offer respite stays for people whose usual home is elsewhere. We would rather be straight with you from the start. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us as requires improvement. We are not going to write around that. The findings were taken seriously, there is an improvement plan we are working through, and if you come and see us you should ask directly what has changed and what is still outstanding. You will get a plain answer. What has not changed is how we believe people should be treated. This is their home. Residents choose how their rooms look, when they get up, what they do with the day and who comes to see them. Because the people living here have genuinely different needs, we plan support one person at a time rather than running one routine and hoping it stretches. Where a physical disability affects how somebody gets about, we work around the person rather than expecting them to fit the building, and we are careful that help with one thing does not slide into doing everything. Genuine improvement comes from listening to residents and relatives and then acting rather than recording. That is where our attention sits, and we welcome anybody who wants to hold us to it.

We are 370 The Ridge, a residential care home in Hastings, East Sussex. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. A house for a small number of people means support can be genuinely individual rather than a compromise between competing demands, and staff come to know everybody properly rather than only what is written in a file. We try to keep the place feeling like a home. People have their own rooms and their own belongings, decide how they spend the day, and are supported to do as much for themselves as they can manage. Where somebody needs help to make a decision, we give the help rather than making the decision for them. Predictability does a great deal of the work, particularly for autistic people. Saying what will happen and when, and then being right, is worth more than reassurance, and where a routine matters to somebody we protect it rather than asking them to be flexible for our convenience. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Maris View is a residential care home in Eastbourne, supporting older people and younger adults from across East Sussex, including people living with dementia and people who have a physical disability. A care home is judged by its ordinary days rather than its brochure, so that is where our attention goes. Meals cooked here and eaten at a table. Personal care offered calmly and in private. Medication managed properly. Rooms that look like they belong to the person living in them. Staff awake overnight. Enough happening in the house to give the day a shape, and nobody pressed into joining anything they have no interest in. People keep their own routines wherever we can arrange it, because a home that insists everyone rises at the same hour and bathes to a schedule has quietly stopped being a home. For residents with a physical disability, getting about matters enormously. Accessible bathrooms, the right equipment, and staff who know how a particular person wants to be helped to move. Mobility lost because assistance was inconvenient is easy to cause and very hard to reverse, so we work at preventing it. Where dementia is part of somebody's life we work on familiarity and calm instead of correction, and we ask relatives early for the history that helps us reach a person when they are distressed. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. Come and see the home, unannounced if you prefer, and talk to the people who already live here.

Arranging and funding a care home place in East Sussex
Getting the need assessed
Families who ring homes before an assessment often find themselves repeating the same conversation, so it is worth having the need recorded first. Any adult who appears to require care and support can ask for an assessment, and it is provided free of charge whatever their income or capital. The assessor examines personal care, mobility, memory, night time safety and whether support at home might still be workable. East Sussex County Council carries out these assessments and arranges funded support for anyone meeting the eligibility criteria, and a relative can begin the request on somebody else's behalf. The written outcome then guides the care plan and any decision about money.
Weekly fees and contributions
Residential care is charged as a weekly fee taking in the room, meals, laundry and personal support, although homes differ over what that figure covers. A financial assessment accompanies the needs assessment, measuring income and capital against national thresholds to establish the personal contribution. Where the council funds or part funds a place, family may be asked for a third party top up if the chosen home charges above the council rate, and that arrangement should be written down before a move. Where the need is chiefly clinical rather than social, NHS continuing healthcare is worth raising, since it is assessed and paid for through the health service. Ask each home for a written schedule showing exactly which extras sit outside the weekly fee.
Choosing between care homes in East Sussex
What the ratings can and cannot tell you
Good is the prevailing outcome across these two hundred and nine homes and covers providers such as Bevern View, Castlemaine Care Home, Ashley Gardens and Nutley Hall. A smaller group, including Dalling House, Parkgate Manor and Lynfords, are rated Requires Improvement, and their reports explain precisely what inspectors asked to be put right. An Outstanding rating is represented on this list as well. Ratings age, though, so check when each inspection took place and ask the manager what has changed since, particularly where the visit was some time ago.
What to look at when you visit
Go when the home is busy, ideally at a mealtime, and give more weight to what is happening around you than to the tour itself. Notice whether residents are up, dressed and occupied, how promptly call bells are answered, and whether staff speak to people by name and at eye level. Ask how many permanent staff are rostered on each shift, how long they have been in post and how often agency cover is used overnight. Ask plainly what happens if needs increase, because a residential home is not always registered to keep somebody who later needs nursing.
Comparing the final few
Ease of visiting matters more than families anticipate, as the placements that settle best are those relatives can reach without turning each visit into an outing. Compare what the fee includes, whether a trial stay is offered, and whether the room you were shown is the room your relative would keep. Two or three visits are usually enough to make the right choice obvious.
Frequently asked questions about care homes in East Sussex
Will East Sussex County Council fund a care home place?
It may contribute, though what is paid follows a financial assessment as well as the assessment of need. Capital and income are compared with national thresholds to decide the personal contribution towards the weekly fee. If the preferred home charges more than the council will meet, family may be asked for a third party top up. Anyone whose needs are primarily clinical should ask about NHS continuing healthcare, which the health service funds instead.
How is a care needs assessment arranged in East Sussex?
Contact East Sussex County Council adult social care and ask for one, which can normally be started online or by telephone. The entitlement applies to anyone who appears to need care and support, and there is no charge. An assessor will talk through daily routines, memory, safety at home and the help family already provides. The written outcome records eligible needs and is the basis for any funded placement.
How far in advance should we start looking?
Allow several weeks where circumstances permit, since assessments, financial checks and visits rarely align neatly. Homes with strong reputations often keep waiting lists, so visiting more than one and keeping a second choice in reserve is sensible. When a hospital discharge is driving the timing, tell the ward team and the council at once because those placements move faster. An early start also means the decision can be taken calmly.
Which care homes in East Sussex are listed here?
215 residential care homes registered with the Care Quality Commission in East Sussex are gathered on this page. They range from large purpose built homes to smaller houses looking after a dozen or so residents. Each entry opens onto a profile with the provider details and the published inspection rating. Comparing them side by side makes shortlisting considerably easier.
What should I ask when visiting a care home in East Sussex?
Ask how many permanent staff cover each shift, how long they have been there and how much agency cover is used. Find out how care plans are reviewed, how families are informed about falls or illness and how medicines are handled. Ask what the weekly fee includes and what is charged separately, from hairdressing to chiropody and outings. Then ask what happens if needs change, and read the latest inspection report before you decide.
What is the difference between a care home and a nursing home?
A residential care home offers a permanent home with meals, laundry and help with personal care, staffed throughout the day and night. A nursing home provides all of that and employs registered nurses, so clinical needs such as complex wounds or feeding tubes can be met on site. The distinction matters when health needs are likely to grow, since a residential home may not be registered to meet them. Both are inspected by the Care Quality Commission under different regulated activities.
