About Us

York Lodge is a residential care home in Crowborough. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia and people with visual or hearing impairment, and we offer respite stays.

Sensory impairment is something we give deliberate thought to, because it is easily overlooked in a busy home. If somebody's sight is poor, furniture that gets moved and crockery that does not contrast with the table make life harder than it needs to be. If hearing is difficult, a noisy lounge can leave a person isolated in a room full of company. We train staff to adapt how they approach, speak and assist rather than expecting the person to cope.

For residents living with dementia, familiarity does most of the work. Consistent staff, a predictable day, surroundings that stay where people expect them, and knowing something about a person's earlier life. Where someone is distressed we look for the reason behind it.

Everyday life here is not elaborate. Good food, a warm and clean home, people who know you properly, and help that arrives before you have to ask twice. That is what residents and families tell us they actually wanted.

Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and look round York Lodge.
