The local community offers a friendly atmosphere, and our location within the BN postcode area means residents remain well connected to the wider region whilst enjoying a tranquil place to call home. We have created an environment that feels domestic and familiar rather than clinical, giving those who live with us the comfort and stability that supports genuine wellbeing. Our specialisms in residential care for adults with learning disabilities and autism sit at the very centre of everything we do. We understand that each person who joins us brings their own personality, preferences, routines and aspirations, and we take the time to get to know every individual properly. This person centred approach means daily life is shaped around what matters to each resident, whether that involves pursuing hobbies, building confidence with everyday skills, taking part in community activities, or simply enjoying quiet time in familiar surroundings. For families, this offers the reassurance that a loved one is being supported as a whole person, not defined by a diagnosis. We also provide respite care, which we know can be a lifeline for families and main carers. Whether respite is needed for a planned break, following a hospital stay, or during a family emergency, we aim to make the transition smooth and the stay genuinely restorative. Guests receive the same warm welcome and thoughtful support as our permanent residents, and many families find that short stays help build confidence in longer term planning too. The Care Quality Commission has rated The Marshes as Good overall, with Good ratings across the Safe, Effective, Caring and Responsive domains. This independent recognition reflects the everyday commitment of our team to keeping people safe, supporting effective outcomes, and treating every resident with genuine kindness and respect. The Well led domain was rated as Requires Improvement at our last inspection, and we take this feedback seriously as part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening leadership and continuously improving the quality of life we offer. If you are exploring residential or respite care in Hailsham for a loved one with a learning disability or autism, we warmly invite you to get in touch. • Care Home

Healey House is a residential care home in St Leonards on Sea, supporting older people and younger adults, including residents with a visual or hearing impairment. We are a home where the day runs comfortably and where staff and residents know one another properly. A sensory impairment changes how a place needs to work, and we pay attention to that. Telling someone who you are as you come into the room, explaining what is about to happen before you help, keeping furniture and belongings where they were left, and making sure nobody misses out on what is going on around them. None of it is complicated, but it has to be done consistently, and it matters enormously to how safe and included a person feels. Otherwise our days are flexible. People get up when they are ready, eat food that is cooked here and worth looking forward to, and spend their time in company or quietly as they prefer. Support with washing and dressing is given calmly and with dignity. Relatives are welcome throughout the day, and we would far rather hear about a concern early than late. We also offer respite stays for shorter periods. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and you are welcome to visit.

    • Care Home

Earlsfield Court is a residential care home in Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex. We support older people, including those living with dementia, people with a physical disability, people with visual or hearing impairment and some younger adults. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our aim is straightforward. People should be able to carry on being themselves here, with enough help to make that comfortable and not so much that it takes over. Residents choose how they spend their days, what they eat, when they rise and whether they want company. Rooms are theirs to furnish and personalise, and we encourage that from the first week. Where someone has a physical disability we think about access and equipment properly, so that moving around the home is a matter of routine rather than something that needs arranging. Where sight or hearing is impaired, we adapt how we communicate and how the space is laid out, and we keep things where people expect to find them. Dementia care here rests on familiarity, consistent staff and taking the time to understand what lies behind distress. We ask families for the person's history because it genuinely changes how we care for them. Being on the coast helps. Fresh air, a change of scene and a trip along the seafront still lift most people. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit Earlsfield Court and judge it for yourself.

    • Care Home

Our home at 51 Chapel Park Road in St Leonards on Sea is a small residential care home. We support adults with learning disabilities and autism, including younger adults, alongside older people who need residential care. Because the household is small, staff know everybody here properly, including the things that never make it into a care plan: who wants an early start, who needs plenty of notice before anything changes, who likes the company of the lounge and who would sooner be left in peace. That knowledge is what makes the place work on an ordinary day. The people who live here decide how their rooms look, what is on the shopping list, how the week is shaped and what they do with it. Our support might involve personal care, help with medication, a hand with money and appointments, or practical assistance to get out to college, work, clubs or simply the shops. Where someone communicates in their own particular way, our staff learn it, and we never make a decision about a person without a real effort to include them in it. Respite stays are available as well, giving families a planned break and giving the person staying some new company. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are looking for a placement in the area, please contact us and we will be honest about whether we are the right fit.

    • Care Home

Shinewater Court is a residential care home in Eastbourne, East Sussex. The people living here include older people and younger adults, and people with a physical disability. Respite stays are available for shorter periods of care. Because our residents need quite different things from us, support is planned with each person rather than run to a single pattern. People keep their own rooms, their own belongings and their own routines, and they decide how much of the day to spend in company and how much on their own. We ask about the small preferences in detail and expect our staff to follow them, since those details are most of what makes a place feel like home rather than an institution. Where somebody needs physical support, the time a routine actually takes when it is done properly rather than quickly matters enormously. Being rushed is undignified, so we plan around the real time needed rather than the time that would suit a rota. For younger adults in particular we take seriously that living in a care home should not mean the end of an ordinary life. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take it as evidence that the everyday work is being done properly and we keep looking at the detail, particularly around choice and privacy. If you are considering a place or a respite stay with us, please come and visit and ask us whatever you need to know.

361 The Ridge is a residential home in Hastings for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, including people with physical disabilities and people with visual or hearing impairment. We offer planned respite stays alongside longer placements. We are deliberately small, which means the people living here know each other and know the staff, and nobody has to explain themselves from scratch each time they come downstairs. For many people that takes some pressure off straight away. This is first and foremost somewhere people live. Residents choose how their rooms look, have a genuine say in meals and the shape of the week, and are supported to keep up the relationships and interests that matter to them. Support is planned around the person rather than around the building. With autistic people in particular we pay close attention to routine, to warning of change and to the sensory side of the environment, because those details tend to decide whether a day goes well. Where somebody has a physical disability we make sure equipment is properly set up and that staff use it confidently, and where there is a sensory impairment we adapt how we communicate and keep things where the person expects to find them. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are considering this home for someone, please get in touch and come and look round properly.

    • Care Home

Amherst Court is a residential care home in Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex. We support adults living with mental health conditions, and people working through difficulties with alcohol or drugs, in a house meant to feel like somebody's home rather than a facility. We are realistic about what recovery looks like. Some of the people who live here are steady and getting on with things; others are having a harder stretch, and some are working through setbacks they did not want. Our job is to be reliable through all of it, without lecturing and without judgement. That means knowing somebody well enough to notice early when things are shifting, supporting medication and appointments without taking over, and working alongside community mental health teams and specialist support so that everybody is pulling in the same direction. Day to day, we support people to look after themselves and their space, to manage money, to cook, to keep up with family and friends and to use what is around them locally. Independence is the aim. Where somebody wants to move on to their own tenancy in time, we help them build towards it. Respite stays are available too, giving families a planned break or giving somebody a period of steadier support. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are looking for a placement, please contact us and we will be honest about whether we are the right fit.

    • Care Home

Whitebriars Care Home is a residential care home in Bexhill on Sea. We look after older people who have reached the point where living alone has become hard work, and our aim is to take away the difficulty without taking away the person. Much of our work is with people living with dementia. That means paying attention to the small things that hold a day together, familiar routines, the same faces, meals at the times someone is used to, and the patience to let a conversation take the time it takes. We also support younger adults who need residential care, and we welcome people for respite stays when a family carer needs a rest or someone is recovering after a spell in hospital. Life here is meant to feel ordinary. People get up when they wake, eat what they actually like, and spend the day as they choose, whether that is in company or quietly with a newspaper. Families are welcome whenever they want to come, and we would far rather have relatives in and out of the building than visiting formally. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. It matters to us, though the better test is whether a person seems settled here after a few weeks, and that is the question we keep asking ourselves. If you would like to look round, please ring us and come at a time that suits you. We are happy for you to see the home on an ordinary day.

    • Care Home

Bishops Lodge is a residential care home in Hastings. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, younger adults and people managing an eating disorder, and we offer respite stays. This is a house run with the people who live in it rather than around them. Residents choose how their rooms look, how they spend their time and what part they play in the household, and support is built around what somebody wants from their life rather than around a timetable that suits the rota. Food and mealtimes can be complicated ground for some of the people we support, and we try to handle that with care rather than with rules. We work alongside the relevant clinical teams, we keep our approach consistent between staff, and we take our lead from the person's own plan rather than improvising. Nobody here is watched or managed at the table in a way that makes eating harder than it already is. For autistic residents we keep routines stable and give notice of change well in advance, because unexpected change is usually the hardest part. Communication takes different forms here and we learn each person's, whether speech, signing, pictures or the particular way somebody shows they have had enough. Respite guests are welcome to visit beforehand so the house is familiar when they arrive. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to look round.

We are pleased to hold a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the genuine commitment our team brings to the care we provide each day. We are a small residential care home on Newlands Close in Hastings, East Sussex. The people living here include older people and younger adults, and people with a learning disability or autism. We also offer respite stays, which can give a family carer a genuine break. This is somebody's home before it is anything else, and we try hard to run it that way. People have their own rooms, their own routines and a real say in how their days go. Support here is about making ordinary things possible rather than doing them for people. Cooking a meal you actually want. Doing your own shopping. Managing money and appointments. Getting to a club, a course or a job. Keeping in touch with family and friends. We pay attention to that distinction, because independence is quietly worn away by help that arrives too quickly. Communication matters a great deal to us. Not everybody here uses many words, and understanding somebody properly takes time, attention and a willingness to be corrected rather than assumptions. Plans are written with the person, reviewed honestly and changed when they stop fitting. We work alongside families and with social work and health colleagues so that support is joined up. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep examining our practice around choice and privacy. If you are considering a place or a respite stay with us, please come and visit and meet the people who live here.

We at Ashdale House are proud to offer a welcoming residential care home in the heart of Eastbauerne, where personalised support meets genuine warmth. Set within the coastal town of Eastbourne in East Sussex, our home provides specialist residential care for adults with learning disabilities, autism, and sensory impairments, creating a place where every individual feels valued, understood, and at home. Our setting in the BN postcode area places us within a familiar and accessible part of Eastbourne, allowing residents to remain connected to the wider community whilst enjoying the comfort and security of a thoughtfully designed home environment. The South East coastal location offers a calm, friendly backdrop to daily life, and our home itself is arranged to feel domestic and reassuring rather than clinical, supporting residents to live as independently and confidently as possible. The people we support are at the very centre of everything we do. We specialise in residential care for younger adults and individuals living with learning disabilities or autism, as well as those with visual or hearing impairments. In practice, this means our team takes time to truly understand each person, their communication preferences, their routines, the activities that bring them joy, and the goals they wish to pursue. We work closely with families, healthcare professionals, and advocates to ensure that care is consistent, respectful, and tailored to the individual rather than the diagnosis. Whether someone needs gentle encouragement to try a new hobby, structured support with daily routines, or specialist communication approaches to navigate sensory differences, we aim to make every day meaningful. For families, this person centred approach offers real reassurance. We understand how significant the decision to move a loved one into residential care can be, particularly when that loved one has complex needs or relies on familiar routines to feel safe. We work hard to build trusting relationships with relatives, keeping lines of communication open and welcoming families as partners in care. Our commitment to quality is reflected in our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection, where Ashdale House was rated Good overall. We achieved a Good rating across all five key areas assessed by the regulator: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. For families, this independent recognition provides confidence that the care delivered here meets recognised national standards, that our team is appropriately skilled and supported, and that the home is run in a way that genuinely puts residents first. We take pride in this rating and remain committed to continuous improvement, listening carefully to residents, relatives, and our staff to keep developing the quality of life we offer. Choosing the right care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we recognise that no description can fully capture the feel of a home. If you are exploring residential care options in Eastbourne for a loved one with a learning disability, autism, or a sensory impairment, we warmly invite you to get in touch with us. We would be delighted to answer your questions, share more about how we support the people who live here, and arrange a visit so you can experience the atmosphere of Ashdale House for yourself. Hazel Lodge Care Home is a residential care home in Battle, East Sussex. We support older people and younger adults who need help with everyday life, including residents living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period or whose family carer needs a rest. We think of this as somewhere people live, not somewhere care is delivered to them, and we try to make that difference obvious in how the house runs. Residents tell us when they like to get up, what they want to eat, how much help they want and where they prefer to spend the day. Support with personal care, meals, medication and appointments is given quietly and with proper regard for privacy, and whatever someone can still do for themselves is protected rather than taken over. Dementia care shapes much of our work. Knowing a person's history, the people and places that matter to them and the rhythms that suit them is what allows us to reassure someone who is anxious instead of arguing with them. We keep the day familiar and explain changes in advance wherever we can. Company matters too, and we pay attention to residents who would otherwise spend the day alone in their room. Families are welcome whenever they want to come. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Port Manor is a residential care home in Seaford. We provide care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, and we offer respite and short stays. We are the size of place where everybody knows everybody. Staff know who is up early, who wants a late breakfast, who likes company and who would sooner be left alone with the radio. None of that appears in a policy, but it is most of what makes a care home somewhere a person could actually live. When somebody moves in we take time over their history. Work, family, places, music, faith, the things that shaped them. It helps us support people living with dementia, and it helps our staff see a person rather than a set of needs. Dementia care here depends on familiarity and on not rushing anyone. We keep staffing as steady as we can, avoid unnecessary change and work out what reassures a particular resident, since it is rarely the same for two of them. Families get honest updates from us rather than comfortable ones. Meals are cooked here and residents tell us what they want on the menu. There is something going on most days, and no obligation to take part. Visitors are welcome through the day and can stay for a meal. Seaford and the coast are home for most of our residents. Please come and see the home and talk to the people living in it.

Our team helps with the things that have become harder over the years, from washing and dressing to moving about safely, medication and making sure everybody eats well and drinks enough. Beyond that, a great deal of what we do is simply being present, sitting and talking, and noticing early when somebody is not themselves. Meals are cooked here and we take requests seriously. There is company in the lounge for those who want it and peace for those who would rather read or watch the garden, and family and friends are welcome to visit and stay for a cup of tea. • Care Home

Sycamore Grove Care Home is a residential care home in Pevensey, East Sussex. We care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for those who need care for a few weeks rather than permanently. Caring well for someone with dementia depends almost entirely on knowing them. We spend time early on learning about a person's working life, their family, the food and music they have always liked and the routines that settle them. That is not background for a file. It is what staff draw on through the day, and it is the difference between calming somebody who is distressed and simply managing the situation. We keep the house calm and predictable. Sudden change is hard for many of the people who live here, so we hold to what has been agreed, explain things in a way each person can follow and give proper notice when something must be different. Respite stays matter to us as much as permanent places. A family carer who gets a genuine break is usually able to carry on for longer, and someone recovering after a spell in hospital often does better here than at home alone. Please visit, meet the team and form your own view of the home.

    • Care Home

At Seaford Family Care, we provide residential care for older people in the heart of Seaford, East Sussex. Our home supports people living with dementia as well as those who need general residential care or a shorter respite stay, and we try to make sure that whatever brings someone to us, they feel genuinely at home here. We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we do not take that lightly. From the first enquiry through to settling in and beyond, we aim to be open, honest and straightforward with residents and their loved ones. We want families to feel comfortable asking questions and telling us what matters most to the person in our care, because that information shapes everything we do day to day. Life in our home is built around the individual. We take time to understand each person's background, preferences and routines, and we do our best to reflect those in how we support them. Whether that means a particular morning routine, a favourite meal or simply having someone to sit and chat with, the small things matter to us. We are honest about where we are as a service. Our most recent CQC inspection resulted in an overall rating of requires improvement, and we have taken that seriously. We have been working through the feedback carefully and making real, practical changes. We believe in being transparent with the people who trust us with their care, and we are committed to demonstrating that improvement through our actions rather than our words. If you would like to find out more about Seaford Family Care or come and have a look around, we would be very happy to hear from you. We are always glad to welcome families and prospective residents to see the home for themselves.

    • Care Home

St Anne's Residential Care Home in Eastbourne supports adults, including younger adults, who have a learning disability, who are autistic, or who live with mental health conditions. We provide a settled home and the kind of steady, practical support that lets people get on with their own lives. We start from the view that the people who live here are adults with their own preferences, routines and ambitions. So residents have a real say in how the home is run, what we eat, how their support is provided and what they do with their time. Where someone wants to build independence, whether that is cooking, managing money, using public transport or looking after their own space, we support the practice rather than doing it for them. Consistency is important to us. Familiar staff who understand how a person communicates, what unsettles them and what helps them recover are worth far more than any policy document. We plan support with each individual, and with family or an advocate where the person wants that involvement. We encourage people to keep up with friends, family, work, college and the things they enjoy in and around Eastbourne, because a life is made up of more than the house you sleep in. We also offer respite stays. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

    • Care Home

At St Marks, we provide residential care for adults in the heart of Hastings, East Sussex. We support people living with learning disabilities, autism, mental health conditions and those who are younger adults needing care, as well as offering respite care for those who need a short break or temporary support. We understand that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a person or their family will make, and we do not take that lightly. Our aim is straightforward: to make sure everyone who lives with us feels genuinely at home, respected and listened to. We get to know each person as an individual, learning what matters to them, what they enjoy and how they like their day to look. Care here is built around the person, not the other way around. Our team works hard to create an environment that feels calm, welcoming and safe. We believe that good care shows itself in the everyday moments, in how staff greet someone in the morning, how mealtimes feel, and whether someone has the opportunity to do things that bring them pleasure and a sense of purpose. We also place a great deal of importance on keeping families and loved ones involved and informed, because we know that continuity and connection matter enormously to the people we support. We are proud to hold a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the consistency and thoughtfulness our team brings to their work each day. Whether someone is joining us for a longer stay or coming to us for respite, we want their experience at St Marks to be one where they feel secure, valued and cared for properly. If you would like to find out more or come and have a look around, we would be very happy to hear from you.

We at St Michaels Rest Home are proud to offer compassionate residential care in the welcoming coastal town of Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex. Our home provides a warm and supportive setting for older people, adults living with dementia, and individuals with mental health needs, where comfort, dignity, and personalised attention sit at the heart of everything we do. Nestled within the friendly community of Bexhill on Sea, our home benefits from the calm seaside atmosphere that this part of the South East is so well loved for. The familiar pace and gentle surroundings of the town offer a reassuring backdrop for residents, whilst our local setting allows families to visit easily and remain closely involved in their loved one's daily life. Inside, we aim to create a homely environment where residents can feel settled, safe, and genuinely at ease. Our specialisms include older person care, residential care, dementia care, mental health support, and care for younger adults. In practice, this means we take time to understand each person as an individual, building care plans that reflect their history, preferences, and the things that bring them joy. For residents living with dementia, we focus on consistent routines, gentle reassurance, and meaningful daily moments that help maintain a sense of identity and wellbeing. For those with mental health needs or younger adults requiring support, our approach is centred on respect, encouragement, and helping each person to live as fully and independently as possible. Families can take comfort in knowing that their loved one is cared for by a team that values kindness as much as practical skill. Following our most recent CQC inspection in December 2022, St Michaels Rest Home received an overall rating of Requires Improvement. We are pleased that inspectors rated us Good across the Safe, Effective, and Caring domains, recognising the quality of the everyday care our residents receive and the supportive nature of our team. The Responsive and Well led areas were identified as needing improvement, and we view this feedback as a valuable opportunity. We remain committed to listening, learning, and strengthening these aspects of our home so that every resident continues to receive care that meets the highest standards. Choosing the right home for someone you love is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight that comes with it. If you are exploring care options in Bexhill on Sea or the wider East Sussex area, we warmly invite you to get in touch with St Michaels Rest Home. We would be glad to answer your questions, share more about our approach, and help you feel confident that your loved one will be welcomed into a caring and supportive home.

    • Care Home

We are a residential care home in Bexhill on Sea, providing a home for people who need help with daily living, and a good deal of our work is with people living with dementia. Our aim is an unhurried house. A great deal of care is spoiled simply by being rushed, so we try to give people the time to wash, dress and eat at their own pace, and to sit with somebody who wants to talk rather than moving straight on to the next task. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Dementia care, as we have come to understand it, is mostly a matter of knowing the person. We ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits, because that knowledge is what allows a member of staff to reassure somebody who is frightened or cannot place where they are. It is worth a great deal more than any written procedure. Being near the sea has its uses, and a walk or a change of view is part of ordinary life here when the weather allows. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Families are welcome whenever they wish to come. Please come and see the home for yourself.

We at Edendale Lodge are proud to offer a warm and welcoming residential care home in the historic town of Battle, East Sussex, where compassionate support meets the comforts of a true home. Our residential care setting has been thoughtfully created for older people and younger adults who benefit from around the clock support in a calm, homely environment. Residents can enjoy the gentle pace of life this beautiful part of the country offers, with its rich heritage, green landscapes, and close knit community feel. The setting provides a tranquil backdrop that supports wellbeing, whilst remaining easily accessible for visiting family and friends. Our specialisms reflect the breadth of care we provide. For residents living with physical disability or with visual or hearing impairment, we tailor our approach so that daily life remains dignified, engaging, and as independent as possible. We also welcome younger adults whose care needs are best met in a supportive residential setting, and we provide respite care for those who need shorter stays, whether to give family carers a well earned break or to support recovery and rest. In practice, this means our team takes time to understand every resident as an individual. We build care plans around personal histories, preferences, and daily routines, so that each person feels genuinely known and valued. Families are welcomed as partners in care, kept informed, listened to, and reassured that their loved one is somewhere safe, comfortable, and treated with warmth. We are pleased to hold an overall Good rating from the Care Quality Commission following our latest inspection on 30 July 2024, with Good ratings across every domain including Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. For families, this consistent picture offers reassurance that the quality of care, the leadership of the home, and the experiences of those living here have all been independently recognised as meeting the standards you would rightly expect for someone you love. Choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that moment. If you are exploring options for a parent, a partner, or another loved one, we warmly invite you to get in touch with Edendale Lodge to learn more, ask any questions, and arrange a visit. We would be honoured to show you around and help you feel confident that your family member will be cared for with the kindness, respect, and professionalism they deserve.

    • Care Home

We are Oakdown House, a small residential care home at Burwash Common in East Sussex. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, and we also offer respite stays where somebody needs a short period of support away from home. Because we are small, life here is domestic. People are involved in the shopping, the cooking and the running of the house as much as they want to be, they choose how their own room looks, and the day is built around what each person actually wants from it rather than around a fixed timetable. Our staff learn how each person communicates, what settles them and what tips a good day into a hard one, and we write that down so it is followed by everyone rather than held in one person's head. Support is offered with an eye on independence. If somebody can do part of a task, they do that part, and we help with the rest. Over time that adds up. We support people to keep up their own relationships, interests and routines outside the house, and to be part of the local community rather than simply living in it. Countryside on the doorstep is one of the pleasures of being here, and walks, gardening and being outdoors feature in a lot of people's weeks. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families, social workers and anyone considering a placement are welcome to visit and ask us anything.

We at SeeAbility Applewood Residential Home offer specialist residential care in the coastal town of Seaford, East Sussex, supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism, sensory impairments and associated mental health needs in a setting designed around each person we welcome. Nestled within the BN postcode area of Seaford, our home benefits from the calm, welcoming atmosphere of this South Coast community. The seaside location provides a gentle, familiar backdrop for daily life, whilst the town itself offers accessible local amenities, green spaces and the wider connections of East Sussex on the doorstep. Inside, we aim to create a home that feels genuinely homely, where residents can enjoy their own personal space alongside shared areas that encourage companionship, relaxation and everyday moments of joy. Our specialism lies in supporting younger adults and other residents living with learning disabilities and autism, including those who also experience visual or hearing impairments or mental health needs. In practice, this means our approach is highly individualised. We take time to understand each person, how they communicate, what brings them comfort, and what helps them feel confident and in control of their day. For residents with sensory impairments, this can involve thoughtful adjustments to the environment, tailored communication approaches, and consistent routines that build trust. For those living with autism, we focus on predictability, sensory awareness and respect for personal preferences, so that daily life feels calm and manageable. Alongside long term residential care, we also offer respite care, giving families and regular carers the reassurance of a trusted place their loved one can stay for shorter periods. Whether respite is needed to support a family break, recovery, or simply a change of scene, we work closely with everyone involved to make the stay feel positive and person centred from the very first visit. We know that choosing a care home is a deeply personal decision, and quality matters. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection, carried out in May 2024, rated us as Good overall, with Good ratings across all five key areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well led. For families, this offers independent reassurance that the support we provide is consistent, that residents are treated with kindness and dignity, and that the home is thoughtfully led with the wellbeing of those we care for at its heart. If you are exploring residential or respite care in Seaford for someone you love, we warmly invite you to get in touch. We would be delighted to answer your questions, listen to what matters most to your family, and arrange a visit so you can experience the atmosphere of Applewood for yourself. Choosing the right home takes time, and we are here to support you every step of the way.

The Old Rectory is a residential care home in Rye, East Sussex. We provide a home for older people and for younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, and we try to keep the place feeling domestic rather than institutional. What that means in practice is fairly simple. People keep their own routines. People bring their own furniture and pictures if they want to. Meals are eaten together for those who like company and in private for those who do not. Rye is a small town and people who have lived here for years carry on going into it, seeing who they always saw and doing what they always did, with as much or as little help from us as is needed. Because the people living here have quite different needs, support is worked out individually rather than applied in a block. Someone may need a great deal of help with personal care and almost none with decisions, or the other way round, and both are entirely normal. We can take people for short respite stays too, which families often use to cover a holiday or a period of illness at home. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please do contact us if you would like to come and see the house.

    • Care Home

We are The Emilie Galloway Home of Rest in Eastbourne, East Sussex. We provide residential care for older people, both as a permanent home and as a respite stay for those who need support for a shorter period. Residential care means helping with the parts of daily life that have become hard work and leaving everything else in the hands of the person. Washing and dressing, meals, medication, moving about safely, and the ordinary company that makes a day worth having. Where health needs go beyond our registration we work with district nurses and GPs rather than stretching to cover something we should not. We think a care home ought to feel like a home rather than an institution, and most of what that takes is unremarkable. People keep their own belongings and routines. Meals are sociable rather than administered. Nobody needs permission to have a visitor. Staff know the people living here well enough to notice when someone is not quite themselves. Respite guests receive the same assessment and the same welcome as permanent residents, whether they are recovering from illness or giving a family carer a break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Wynford House is a residential care home in Seaford, East Sussex, supporting older people who need residential care, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, younger adults and people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available as well. With that range of people living here, no single routine would suit everybody, so we plan around individuals. Some residents need a steady hand with personal care, medication and mobility. Others mainly need structure, confidence and somebody reliable nearby while they do things for themselves, whether that is cooking, managing money or getting out to something they enjoy. Independence here is practical rather than decorative. People choose their own furnishings, decide how a weekend goes and hold on to the routines that make a day feel like their own. Where somebody finds change unsettling we keep things predictable and give warning well ahead, and where communication is difficult we learn a person's own way of making themselves understood instead of expecting them to adapt to us. Knowing people properly is what makes the difference. Staff who understand what a good day looks like for somebody notice when things start to slip, and that is usually what prevents a small difficulty becoming a crisis. Families and professionals are kept informed and are welcome at times that suit them. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. For families, this translates into genuine peace of mind, knowing their loved one is being cared for with warmth, patience, and respect. Our respite offering also provides vital reassurance for family carers who may need a break, a holiday, or simply time to recharge, confident that their relative is in safe and attentive hands. We are proud to hold an overall Good rating from the Care Quality Commission, following our most recent inspection in May 2023. This Good rating extends across every one of the five key areas assessed by the regulator, covering how safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well led our home is. For families researching care options, this consistent recognition reflects our commitment to maintaining high standards in every aspect of daily life at St Vincent's Care, from the quality of support delivered to the way our home is managed. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the care and consideration that goes into it. If you are exploring options for a loved one in Bexhill On Sea or the wider East Sussex area, we warmly invite you to get in touch. We would be delighted to answer your questions, share more about life at St Vincent's Care, and help you feel confident about the next steps.

Arranging and funding a care home place in East Sussex

The order of events surprises most families. An assessment comes first, funding is settled second, and only then does the search for a particular home become straightforward, because by that point you know what needs to be met and what can be spent.

The care needs assessment

Anyone who appears to need care can ask for a care needs assessment, and it costs nothing regardless of savings or income. A social care professional looks at washing, dressing, eating, mobility, medication, safety at home and the strain on family carers, then records what support is required. Contact East Sussex County Council adult social care to request one, or ask a hospital discharge team to make the referral when someone is on a ward. Family carers can request a separate carers assessment in their own right.

What the financial assessment decides

A financial assessment follows, comparing income and capital against nationally set thresholds. Above the upper threshold a person normally pays their own fees, though they can still ask for an assessment and for help understanding the options. Below it, the council contributes and sets a personal budget reflecting what meeting those needs should cost. Where a family prefers a home charging more than that budget, a third party contribution covers the gap, and it is worth being sure that contribution can be sustained for years rather than months.

Cost in context

Residential fees vary widely between homes in East Sussex, and the headline weekly figure rarely tells the whole story. Ask which extras sit outside it, such as hairdressing, chiropody, escorted appointments and trips out. Ask too how often fees have risen recently and what notice is given before an increase takes effect. If the council is contributing, check whether the home accepts its rate without requiring a top up, since that single question rules a good number of homes in or out before you visit them.

Choosing between care homes in East Sussex

Two hundred and nine homes is a long list, so narrow it by location and registration first, then judge the shortlist on evidence rather than impression. Distance matters more than families expect, because a home that relatives can reach easily tends to be visited far more often.

Using the CQC reports properly

Ratings across the county run from Outstanding through Good to Requires Improvement, and homes rated Good sit right alongside homes rated Requires Improvement in the same towns. Names such as Bevern View, Nutley Hall and Castlemaine Care Home carry a Good rating, while others including Parkgate Manor and Dalling House are rated Requires Improvement. Read the report itself, check its date, and look at whether concerns were about paperwork or about the care people actually received.

What to notice on a visit

Go at a time the home has not chosen for you, ideally late morning or mid afternoon. Notice whether residents are dressed, occupied and spoken to by name, and whether staff seem rushed. Ask how many permanent staff work at night, how much agency cover is used, and how long the manager has been in post. Ask what happens if needs increase, because a second move is disruptive and often avoidable when a home can adapt.

How do I arrange a care needs assessment in East Sussex?

Contact the adult social care team at East Sussex County Council and describe the situation, or ask a general practitioner or hospital discharge team to refer the person concerned. The assessment is free and is not affected by income or savings. A social care professional will look at everyday tasks, safety, mobility and the support already in place, usually at home or on a ward. The written record of needs that results is the basis for every funding decision that follows.

Can East Sussex County Council pay for a care home placement?

It can, where the care needs assessment shows residential care is required and the financial assessment shows capital and income fall below the nationally set thresholds. The council then agrees a personal budget reflecting the cost of meeting those assessed needs. If a family chooses a home charging more than that budget allows, a third party contribution is usually requested to meet the difference. Those funding themselves may still ask for an assessment and for advice on choosing well.

Which providers offer residential care in East Sussex?

215 residential care homes registered with the Care Quality Commission are listed here for East Sussex. They include small family run houses and larger established homes such as Elizabeth Court Rest Home and Ashley Gardens. Every profile shows the provider name, the care it is registered to deliver and its current CQC rating. Working through the list by area first, then by rating, is usually the fastest route to a shortlist.

What is the difference between a residential care home and a nursing home?

A residential care home provides a place to live along with personal care, meaning help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and daily routine. A nursing home offers all of that plus registered nurses on site at all times to deliver clinical care. Every home listed on this page is registered as a residential care home. Where someone needs regular nursing input, the assessment should say so, and a nursing registration is then the thing to look for.

How far ahead should I start looking for a care home?

Begin as soon as it is clear the present arrangement is not going to hold. Assessments, financial checks and waiting lists each take weeks, and the better regarded homes rarely have a room free at short notice. Starting early gives you time to visit more than once and to involve the person moving in the decision. Families who begin only after a hospital admission usually find their choice narrowed to whatever happens to be available.

What should I ask when visiting a care home in East Sussex?

Ask about staffing overnight, agency use and how long the manager and senior carers have been there, since continuity underpins nearly everything else. Ask how care plans are reviewed and how families are told when something changes. Ask what the weekly fee covers and which services are billed separately. Then ask what would happen if your relative's needs grew, and whether the home could continue to look after them.
