About Us

Westwood is a residential care home in Hastings, East Sussex. The people living here include older people and younger adults, people with a learning disability or autism, people with a physical disability and people managing mental health conditions. Respite stays are available.

Because the people living here need quite different things from us, support is planned with each person rather than run to one pattern. People have their own rooms, their own belongings and their own routines, and they have a real say in how their days go. We are careful about the difference between helping somebody and doing things for them, because independence is easily worn away by help that arrives in too much of a hurry, and we take the time needed to understand how each person communicates.

We should be straightforward with you about where we stand. Our most recent overall judgement from the Care Quality Commission was that we require improvement. We accepted the findings rather than arguing with them, we have a plan of work in place and we are progressing it alongside colleagues in health and the local authority. Families deserve to hear that from us directly rather than discovering it later.

If you are considering Westwood for yourself or someone in your family, please come and visit, speak to our staff and the people living here, and ask us exactly what the concerns were and what we have changed. We will answer plainly.
