A county of market towns, coastal resorts and scattered villages, Norfolk has its care homes catalogued here in one directory, so that provision on the coast can be compared with provision inland without visiting a dozen separate websites. Care Quality Commission judgements across the collection reach from Outstanding and Good through Requires Improvement to Inadequate, and a further group of homes has registered too recently to have been inspected and carries no rating yet. Two hundred and fifty six providers match this search, each of them registered as a residential care home rather than a nursing setting. Assessment of what someone needs, and any decision about publicly funded support, rests with Norfolk County Council under the national eligibility rules that apply everywhere in England. Use the profiles below to reach the inspection report sitting behind each rating, since what inspectors observed and what they asked a provider to improve is the evidence that should decide which homes are worth your time.

- Care Home
Broadland View Care Home is in Norwich, and we support older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities, autistic people, and people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available as well. Supporting a mixed group well depends on treating each person as an individual rather than as a category. Support is agreed with the person, written in terms they recognise, and reviewed as things change. Some residents need a great deal of hands on help with washing, dressing, medication and mobility. Others mainly want a settled home and support that is available when they ask for it. For autistic people, predictability is a need rather than a preference, so changes are explained in advance and staffing is kept consistent where we can. For residents living with dementia we keep routines and surroundings familiar and give people time instead of hurrying them. For those with physical disabilities the emphasis is on equipment that fits and transfers handled safely. We should be open about our position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have worked through the findings with our team, and those areas are where our effort is concentrated at present. We would rather tell you ourselves and be asked about it. Families and professionals considering Broadland View are welcome to visit on an ordinary day and question us closely.

- Care Home
Broadacres Care Home is in Norwich, and we provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, including people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available as well. Most of what makes a care home good is ordinary detail rather than anything grand. Knowing which chair is somebody's. Getting the tea right. Not hurrying a person through a wash because the morning is busy. We help with personal care, dressing, medication and mobility, doing it quietly and leaving as much privacy and choice with the resident as we can. Where somebody can still manage a task themselves, that is theirs to keep. For residents with physical disabilities, our attention goes to equipment that fits properly, transfers managed safely and without embarrassment, and keeping as much independence as somebody wants. For those living with sight or hearing loss, unhurried communication and a thoughtfully arranged environment make most of the difference, and we take time over both. The first fortnight after a move matters enormously and we give it real thought. Before somebody arrives we want to know what time they wake, how they take their tea and who they want to be able to ring. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and see us on an ordinary afternoon and ask us anything you like.

- Care Home
Ailwyn Hall is a care home near Norwich providing residential care for adults, including people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays. We would rather raise our inspection position ourselves than have you come across it. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have taken the findings seriously and worked through them rather than argued about them. Assessments and care plans have been reworked, record keeping tightened, and supervision of the staff team strengthened so that problems come to our attention before anyone else has to point them out. Some of this is still under way. If you ring and ask what exactly went wrong and what exactly has changed, we will tell you. The daily work carries on and the people living here deserve it done properly. Help offered without hurry and at each person's own pace. Meals worth sitting down to. For residents living with dementia, a routine that stays recognisable and a staff team steady enough that faces do not keep changing. We rely a great deal on families for the history that makes sense of the present, and relatives are welcome here without appointments. Respite stays are available for carers needing a break and for people who need support for a short period. Please come and look round on an ordinary day, speak to whoever you like and form your own view of us.

Casarita is a residential care home in Norwich. We support older people who need help through the day and adults with a learning disability, including autistic adults and younger adults. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. We should raise our rating ourselves rather than let you discover it. The Care Quality Commission last rated us requires improvement overall. We accept the finding instead of arguing with it. An inspection records what was there on the day, and putting it right is our job. There is an action plan, the people who commission care from us know exactly where we have reached with it, and any family considering us is welcome to go through the detail with the manager. What we are trying to be is a home rather than an institution. Because we support a mix of older adults and adults with a learning disability, we do not run the house to one timetable. Some people here go out to college, work or a club during the week. Others prefer the quiet of their own room and the garden. Both are reasonable, and we work out what each person's day ought to look like rather than offering a programme and hoping it suits. Come and visit, ask the uncomfortable questions, and talk to the people who live here as well as to us.

Worstead Lodge is a residential care home in North Walsham, Norfolk. The people living here include older people and younger adults, and people with a learning disability or autism. We also offer respite stays for shorter periods of care. Because the people living here need quite different things from us, support is planned with each person rather than run to one pattern. People have their own rooms, their own belongings and their own routines, and they have a real say in how their days go. We are careful about the difference between helping somebody and doing things for them, because independence is easily worn away by help that arrives in too much of a hurry. We also take the time needed to understand how each person communicates, which is not always through words. We should be straightforward with you about where we stand. Our most recent overall judgement from the Care Quality Commission was that we require improvement. We accepted the findings rather than arguing with them, we have a plan of work in place and we are progressing it alongside colleagues in health and the local authority. Families deserve to hear that from us directly rather than discovering it later. If you are considering Worstead Lodge for yourself or someone in your family, please come and visit, speak to our staff and the people living here, and ask us exactly what the concerns were and what we have changed. We will answer plainly.

Here at Burgh House Residential Care Home, we are proud to be a trusted part of the Great Yarmouth community in Norfolk, offering a warm and homely environment where residents feel genuinely valued and looked after. We support a range of residents, including older people, those living with dementia, younger adults, and those who need a shorter stay through respite care. Each person who comes through our doors brings their own story, preferences and needs, and we take the time to understand what matters most to them so that the care we provide feels personal rather than routine. For those living with dementia, we understand how important familiarity, patience and a calm atmosphere can be. Our team works thoughtfully to maintain routines that bring comfort and to communicate in ways that feel reassuring and respectful at every stage of the journey. Respite care is something we feel strongly about offering well. Whether someone needs a planned break or a short stay at short notice, we aim to make the transition as smooth and settled as possible, both for the individual and for their family. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission resulted in an overall rating of Good, which reflects the commitment of our whole team to maintaining high standards day to day. We do not see that as a ceiling though. We are always looking at how we can improve and how we can do better for the people in our care. If you are considering Burgh House for yourself or someone close to you, we warmly encourage you to get in touch or come and visit us. Here at The Burrows, we are a residential care home based in Cromer, on the beautiful Norfolk coast. We support a range of people including younger adults, those living with a learning disability or autism, and individuals who need a short break through respite care. Our aim is straightforward: to make sure every person who lives or stays with us feels genuinely at home, respected, and listened to. We understand that choosing a care home, whether for yourself or someone you love, is one of the most significant decisions a family can make. We do not take that lightly. From the moment you get in touch with us, we want you to feel that you are dealing with people who are honest, straightforward, and truly interested in the individual in front of them, not just their care needs on paper. Our team in Cromer works hard to create an environment that feels calm, consistent, and personal. For people with a learning disability or autism in particular, we know how much routine and familiarity matter, and we work closely with each person and their family to understand what makes them feel safe and settled. We were given a "requires improvement" rating at our most recent CQC inspection, and we want to be open about that. We took the findings seriously and have been working through the areas identified with real focus and commitment. We believe in being transparent with the families and individuals who trust us, and we would rather have an honest conversation about where we are and where we are heading than pretend everything is perfect. If you would like to come and visit The Burrows, meet the team, and see the home for yourself, we would be very glad to welcome you. Please do not hesitate to get in touch.

We at Hill Barn Care Home extend a warm welcome to families exploring residential care in Norwich. Nestled within the Norfolk countryside, our home offers a calm and familiar setting where older people can feel truly at ease, supported by a team dedicated to providing thoughtful, person centred care every day. Our location in the NR postcode area places us within easy reach of the wider Norwich community, allowing residents to remain connected to the places, faces, and rhythms of Norfolk life. The surrounding environment lends itself to peaceful walks, quiet reflection, and the comfort of a genuinely homely atmosphere, whilst loved ones benefit from convenient access when visiting. At the heart of what we do is a commitment to older person care, delivered with warmth and respect for each individual's life story. Our residential care supports those who need help with the everyday tasks that can become more challenging over time, from personal care and medication management to companionship and encouragement. We believe that receiving support should never mean losing independence, and we work alongside residents to preserve the choices, routines, and preferences that make them who they are. We also provide specialist dementia care, understanding that a diagnosis affects not only the individual but the whole family. Our approach centres on creating a safe, reassuring environment where residents living with dementia can feel understood and valued. This means gentle routines, familiar comforts, meaningful activities, and a team who take the time to learn what brings each person a sense of calm and joy. For families, it means the reassurance of knowing that their loved one is being cared for with patience, dignity, and genuine understanding. For those needing shorter term support, our respite care offers a valuable option. Whether following a hospital stay, during a family carer's break, or simply as a trial of residential life, respite guests receive the same standard of attentive care as our permanent residents. Families often tell us how much peace of mind this brings, knowing their relative is in safe hands whilst they take the time they need to rest and recharge. Our most recent CQC inspection, carried out on 28 October 2023, resulted in an overall rating of Requires Improvement. We believe in being open about this. Inspectors rated us Good in both the Caring and Responsive domains, recognising the kindness of our team and the way we respond to residents' individual needs. In the areas of Safe, Effective, and Well led, we were rated as Requires Improvement, and we take this feedback seriously. We are actively working on strengthening these aspects of our home, learning from the inspection, and putting in place the changes needed to ensure every resident receives the highest possible standard of care. Transparency and continuous improvement are values we hold closely, and we welcome conversations with families about the steps we are taking. Choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we understand the mix of emotions that accompanies it. If you are considering care for a parent, partner, or relative, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please get in touch to arrange a visit, meet our team, and see for yourself the community we have built here at Hill Barn Care Home. We are here to listen, to answer your questions, and to walk alongside you as you make this important choice.

Here at Cranleigh, we are a residential care home nestled in the seaside town of Cromer, Norfolk, and we are proud to be part of such a welcoming community. Our most recent Care Quality Commission rating is "good", which reflects the commitment our whole team brings to the people who live with us every day. We support a range of individuals, including adults with learning disabilities and autism, younger adults, and those who require short term respite care. We understand that no two people are the same, and we take the time to get to know each person properly, learning what matters to them, what makes them comfortable, and how we can help them live as independently and as happily as possible. Respite care is something we feel strongly about offering well. Whether someone is staying with us to give a family carer some breathing space or simply to try something new, we want every short stay to feel just as settled and personal as a long term placement. People should feel at home here, not like a visitor passing through. Living near the Norfolk coast brings its own advantages. Cromer is a lively, friendly town with plenty going on throughout the year, and we enjoy making the most of what is on our doorstep, from the seafront to local amenities that help people stay connected to the wider world around them. We know that choosing a care home, whether for yourself or someone you love, is a significant decision. We welcome anyone who would like to come and see us in person, have a chat, and get a genuine feel for who we are. We would rather you asked us the difficult questions than walked away unsure. Braydeston Court is a residential care home in Norwich, Norfolk. We provide a permanent home for older people and for some younger adults, and we also offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter spell. We support people with the ordinary business of the day: washing and dressing, medication, meals, moving safely about the building and having somebody to talk to. Many of the people who live here are living with dementia. Our approach to that is practical rather than theoretical. Familiar routines, surroundings that are easy to make sense of, unhurried conversation, and staff who take the time to work out what a person means when the words are hard to find. We also want to be straightforward with you about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have accepted those findings rather than argued with them, and we are working through the areas identified, with closer attention to how care is planned, recorded, reviewed and checked. We would rather say that plainly than have you learn it from somewhere else. If you are considering a home in Norwich for yourself or a relative, please come and see us, ask the difficult questions and hold us to the answers.

We are Feltwell Lodge, a residential care home near Thetford caring for older people, including many who are living with dementia. We have tried to keep the feel of a house rather than an institution. People bring their own furniture and pictures, come down when they wake rather than when a rota says so, and spend their days as they please. Some like the sitting room and the conversation that goes with it, others prefer their own room with the radio on, and neither choice needs explaining. Dementia care takes patience and it takes knowing the person. We spend time learning about the work somebody did, the family they raised, the music they grew up with and the routines that settle them. We do not argue about what year it is or where a person believes they are going. We meet people where they are and find something good to do together. The staff here know residents properly, which is how you notice that somebody is quieter than usual or eating less before it becomes serious. We keep families informed and would far rather ring early about a small worry. Visitors are welcome whenever suits them. We work with GPs, district nurses and social workers, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Please get in touch if you would like to come and see the home.

Honeysuckle Cottage is a residential care home in Norwich. We support older people needing help with daily living, adults who have a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental health conditions, people with a physical disability and people whose sight or hearing is impaired. We also support some younger adults. Support here is planned around the individual rather than a house routine everybody has to fit. We find out how somebody wants their day to run, what tends to help when things are difficult and who we should contact, and we treat that knowledge as the substance of the care. We want to be open about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are working through the points raised, with attention to record keeping, staff supervision and the consistency of care planning, and we would rather set that out ourselves and answer your questions than have you find it elsewhere. Foxhill is a residential care home in Norwich supporting adults who have a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental health conditions and people with a physical disability. It is a home rather than an institution and we work to keep it that way. People have their own rooms arranged as they want them, they have a say in how the house runs and support sits underneath ordinary life rather than taking it over. What we provide differs from person to person. Some need help with personal care, medication and daily routines. Some want practical support with cooking, budgeting, appointments and keeping a home in order. Some are mainly after steady, familiar people nearby while they build confidence and get on with their own plans. Where somebody has a physical disability we take the time that moving and transfers properly require. For people living with mental health conditions, consistency and staff who stay steady when things are difficult count for a great deal. For the autistic people we support, notice of change and clear communication do most of the work. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Broadlands Lodge Care Home is in Norwich, and we support older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia, those living with mental ill health, those with physical disabilities and those living with sight or hearing loss. Younger adults are supported here too, and respite stays are available. A household this varied only works if people are treated as individuals rather than as categories, and that is how we run the place. Support is agreed with the person, written in terms they recognise, and reviewed as things change. Some residents need a great deal of hands on help with washing, dressing, medication and mobility. Others mainly want stability, company when they choose it, and a household that holds together through a difficult week. For residents living with dementia we keep routines and surroundings familiar and give people time instead of hurrying them. For those living with mental ill health the valuable thing is usually steadiness. For residents with physical disabilities or sight and hearing loss, the emphasis is on equipment that fits, safe transfers and unhurried communication. We have not yet had an overall rating published by the Care Quality Commission, which we say plainly rather than leaving you to look it up. You are welcome to visit on an ordinary day, meet the people who live and work here, and take your time deciding.

We at Joseph House are proud to offer warm, person centred residential care in the heart of Norwich, providing a welcoming home for older adults and younger people alike across Norfolk. Our community is built on dignity, compassion, and the understanding that every resident deserves to feel truly at home. Nestled within the NR postcode area of Norwich, our home benefits from the gentle character of this historic city, offering residents a familiar and comforting setting in the East of England. The surrounding area provides a peaceful backdrop, whilst remaining accessible for visiting family and friends who wish to spend meaningful time with their loved ones. Our care reflects the diverse needs of those who live with us. We support older people requiring residential care, alongside individuals living with dementia, learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments. We also welcome younger adults who benefit from a supportive residential environment. In practice, this means our team approaches each person as an individual, taking time to understand their history, preferences, and aspirations. For families, this translates into the reassurance that a loved one is being cared for by people who recognise their uniqueness, whether that involves specialised dementia support, sensitive communication for those with sensory impairments, or thoughtful encouragement for residents navigating life with a learning disability or autism. Following our most recent CQC inspection in April 2025, Joseph House received an overall rating of Requires Improvement. We believe in being open about this. The inspectors recognised our strengths in being Effective, Caring, and Responsive, all rated Good, which reflects the genuine warmth our team brings to daily life and the way care is tailored to each resident. The areas identified for improvement relate to Safe and Well led, and we are actively working to strengthen these aspects so that every part of our home matches the quality of care our residents already experience day to day. Transparency matters to us, and we welcome conversations with families about the steps being taken. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that responsibility. If you are considering residential care in Norwich for someone you love, we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask questions, and discover whether Joseph House could be the right next chapter. Our door is open, and we are here to listen.

At Corner Oaks, we provide residential care for adults in the heart of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. We support people with learning disabilities and autism, as well as younger adults who need a safe and comfortable place to call home, whether that is on a long term basis or as a short stay for respite. We understand that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a person or their family will make, and we do not take that lightly. Our aim is straightforward: to make sure that everyone who lives here feels genuinely respected, listened to, and supported to live as independently as possible. That means getting to know each person properly, understanding what matters to them, and building their care around their individual needs rather than fitting them into a routine that suits us. Respite care is something we take particular pride in. We know that for many families, having access to a reliable and welcoming short stay option makes an enormous difference. We work hard to ensure that respite stays feel settled and positive, not disruptive or unsettling. We want to be honest about where we are as a service. Our most recent CQC inspection resulted in a "requires improvement" rating, and we are committed to addressing the areas of feedback we received. We are actively working through our improvement plans and welcome the scrutiny that comes with regulation because we believe it helps us do better for the people in our care. Great Yarmouth is a community we are proud to be part of, and we maintain strong links with local organisations and support networks to make sure residents can stay connected to the wider world around them. If you would like to find out more or arrange a visit, we would be very glad to hear from you.

- Care Home
We at Oaklands are proud to offer a warm and welcoming residential care home in Norwich, providing compassionate support for older people and adults with diverse needs across Norfolk. Our home has been thoughtfully designed to feel like a true home from home, where every resident is valued as an individual. Nestled within the NR postcode area of Norwich, Oaklands benefits from the peaceful charm of its East of England setting, whilst remaining well connected to the wider community. The environment has been created with comfort and accessibility in mind, offering inviting communal spaces where residents can socialise, enjoy quiet moments of reflection, or share meaningful time with visiting loved ones. Our surroundings encourage a gentle pace of life, where residents can feel settled, safe, and at ease. At the heart of what we do is person centred residential care, with particular expertise in supporting older people, younger adults, and individuals living with learning disabilities or autism. This breadth of specialism means that we understand the importance of tailoring support to each person's unique story, preferences, and abilities. For older residents, this might involve attentive daily living support that preserves dignity and independence. For younger adults and those with learning disabilities or autism, our approach focuses on building confidence, encouraging meaningful routines, and supporting personal goals in a structured yet flexible way. Families can take comfort in knowing that their loved ones are cared for by a team that genuinely listens, adapts, and celebrates each individual's progress and personality. We are pleased to hold an overall "Good" rating from the Care Quality Commission, with this standard reflected consistently across all five inspection domains: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. For families, this independent assurance offers peace of mind that the care we provide meets the standards expected of a trusted residential setting, and that our culture of kindness and professionalism is recognised by those who regulate our sector. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the questions, hopes, and concerns that come with it. If you are exploring options for a loved one in Norwich or the wider Norfolk area, we warmly invite you to get in touch with Oaklands to learn more about our community and how we might support your family during this next chapter.

- Care Home
Woodstock is a residential care home in Dereham supporting older people, including many living with dementia and people with a visual or hearing impairment. We support some younger residents too, and we welcome respite guests. We run the home as a household. People get up when they are ready, eat what they want and spend the day as they choose. Staff learn residents' histories rather than just their needs, because knowing a person's life is what makes it possible to care for them properly. Dementia care takes up much of our attention. We keep routines familiar, the building calm and the staffing as consistent as we can, and we follow the person rather than correcting them. When someone is distressed we look for what lies behind it instead of treating the distress itself as the problem, and families are often the ones who know the answer. For residents living with a sensory impairment we think carefully about how a room sounds and looks, how we approach someone and how we make sure information reaches them in a form they can use. Those habits either protect independence or quietly erode it. Respite guests receive exactly what permanent residents receive. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. If you would like to visit, please get in touch and come and see us.

At Heywoods Grange, we provide residential care for adults in the heart of Diss, Norfolk. We specialise in supporting people with learning disabilities and autism, and we also offer respite care for those who need a short break or whose families need some time to rest and recharge. We understand that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a person or their family will ever make. That is why we work hard to make sure that everyone who comes through our doors feels genuinely at home. We take the time to get to know each person as an individual, understanding their routines, their preferences, and the things that matter most to them. Care here is shaped around the person, not the other way around. Our team works closely with residents and their families to make sure support is consistent, respectful and responsive. We believe that good care means listening carefully, communicating openly, and always treating people with dignity. We are proud that our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission resulted in an overall rating of Good, which reflects the commitment our whole team brings to their work every day. For people with learning disabilities or autism, we know how important it is to have a calm, structured and familiar environment. We put real thought into how we support each person to live as independently as possible while ensuring they feel safe and understood. Our respite care offers the same standard of support as our longer term residential care, so families can feel confident that their loved one is in good hands even for a shorter stay. If you would like to find out more about life at Heywoods Grange or come and see the home for yourself, we would love to hear from you.

For older people, we offer the reassurance of round the clock support delivered with warmth and dignity. For younger adults, we recognise the importance of promoting independence, personal interests, and meaningful daily life. - Care Home
Red House Residential Home is in Thetford, providing residential care to older people, with respite stays available as well. We are a home for people who need help with everyday living rather than nursing care. The emphasis here is on life rather than on care, even though care is what we provide. Residents keep their own routines, their own belongings and their own preferences, and are supported to carry on doing whatever they can for themselves. Doing something for somebody is almost always quicker than helping them do it, and it is almost always the wrong choice. Many of the people living here have dementia. Our approach relies on familiarity: the same staff, a routine that holds its shape, and enough time for somebody to respond in their own way. Where a resident becomes distressed we look for the reason, which is usually pain, confusion, boredom or fear, rather than simply managing the behaviour in front of us. Respite guests are welcomed into the household properly rather than parked at the edge of it. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. If you are looking at homes in the Thetford area, please come and see us. Walk round, talk to the residents, and judge the place on what you find rather than on what we have written here.

Mayflower Court is a residential care home in Norwich, offering older people a comfortable place to live with support close at hand. We try to keep the feel of a household, with days shaped by the people living them rather than by a schedule on the wall. Supporting residents living with dementia is a substantial part of what we do. We approach it by learning who somebody is and still is, keeping the day familiar and unhurried, giving notice before anything changes, and treating distress as something with a cause rather than as behaviour to be contained. Our team helps with personal care, medication, mobility and meals, and equally with company, fresh air, music and conversation for those who want them. Relatives are welcome whenever they can come, and we would much rather people dropped in informally than felt they needed to arrange it. Respite stays are available for people needing care for a short period. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Requires Improvement. We prefer to say that plainly at the outset. We understood the findings, we have been working through them, and we are happy to go through the detail with any family who asks. Please come and visit at an ordinary hour and judge us on what you actually see.

Shulas is a residential care home in Cromer, Norfolk, supporting adults with a range of needs, including older people, younger adults, people with a learning disability or who are autistic, and people living with a physical disability. We are not a large place and we do not run to a rigid timetable. People get up when they wake, eat what they like, keep their rooms as they want them and decide how much of the day to spend in company. Our team helps with personal care, medication, appointments and the practical business of living, and we are careful to support without taking over. For autistic residents we pay particular attention to routine, to giving notice before anything changes, and to keeping somewhere quiet available. Respite stays are available for people needing support for a short period, or for families needing a break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Requires Improvement. We would rather put that in front of you now than leave you to discover it. - Care Home
Westfields is a residential care home in Swaffham, Norfolk. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for families who need a planned break. We try to make the place feel domestic rather than managed. Kettles get used, doors get knocked on, and nobody is moved along to keep a routine tidy. With dementia we keep change to a minimum and understanding to a maximum. Relatives hold the information that makes the second part possible. We keep the number of people involved in somebody's personal care small, because being helped by a stream of different faces is wearing. We do not use agency staff more than we must, and when we do we make sure they are introduced properly rather than sent in cold. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are proud of it and slightly cautious about it, because a rating describes a period rather than a permanent condition. What keeps it true is the same daily attention to small things that earned it, and asking residents and relatives what we have stopped noticing. Families are welcome to arrive unannounced.

- Care Home
Here at Briar House, we provide residential care for older people in the heart of King's Lynn, Norfolk. We are a care home where people genuinely feel at home, and where the relationships built between our team and the people we support sit at the centre of everything we do. We specialise in older person care, residential care, dementia care and respite care. Whether someone is moving in with us permanently or staying for a shorter period to recover or give a family carer some breathing space, we aim to make that experience as comfortable and as familiar as possible. For those living with dementia, we work to understand each person as an individual, learning what matters to them, what brings them comfort, and how we can best support them through their day. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as good, and we take real pride in that. It reflects the honest, everyday effort our team puts in, not just in the care they give but in the way they listen, the way they communicate with families, and the way they treat each person with genuine respect. King's Lynn is where we are rooted, and many of our residents have lived in this part of Norfolk for most of their lives. Being local matters to us. It means families can visit easily, and it means our residents do not have to feel far from the community they have always known. If you are considering care for yourself or for someone you love, we would always encourage you to come and see us in person. No description quite captures what a place feels like until you walk through the door, and we are always happy to show you around and answer any questions you might have.

We at The Old Vicarage are proud to offer a warm and welcoming residential care home in the heart of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, where older people, including those living with dementia, can feel truly at home. Our setting combines the charm of a traditional vicarage with the comfort and reassurance of modern residential care. Nestled within the NR postcode area of Great Yarmouth, our home enjoys a peaceful position whilst remaining well connected to the wider community. The character of the building lends itself to a homely, familiar atmosphere, with comfortable communal spaces where residents can relax, socialise, or simply enjoy a quiet moment. Families visiting loved ones often comment on how the surroundings feel less like an institution and more like a cherished family home. Our care is centred around three core specialisms: older person care, residential care, and dementia care. For our residents, this means receiving compassionate, personalised support from a team who understand the needs that come with later life. Whether it is gentle assistance with daily routines, encouragement to take part in meaningful activities, or simply a kind word at the right moment, we aim to preserve dignity, independence, and a sense of self in everything we do. Dementia care holds a particularly important place in our work. We recognise that a diagnosis of dementia affects not only the individual but the whole family. Our approach is rooted in patience, familiarity, and consistency, helping residents feel safe and understood as their needs evolve. We take time to learn each person's life story, preferences, and routines, so that the care we provide feels personal rather than procedural. For families, this means peace of mind in knowing that their relative is being supported by people who genuinely care about who they are, not just what they need. Day to day life at The Old Vicarage is shaped around our residents. From nourishing home cooked meals to social activities that encourage connection and laughter, we strive to make each day feel purposeful and enjoyable. Family members are always welcome, and we see relatives as an essential part of our extended community. Open communication, honesty, and warmth guide every conversation we have with the people who matter most to our residents. We are pleased that the Care Quality Commission has rated The Old Vicarage as Good overall, following their most recent inspection in December 2024. Importantly, we achieved a Good rating across every single one of the five key domains assessed by the CQC: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well-led. For families, this independent endorsement offers reassurance that the care, leadership, and culture within our home meet the high standards expected of a quality residential setting. It reflects the dedication of our team and our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement. Choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that responsibility. If you are exploring options for an older relative in the Great Yarmouth area, or seeking specialist dementia support in a setting that feels like home, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please do get in touch to arrange a visit, ask questions, or simply talk through what you are looking for. At The Old Vicarage, you and your loved one will always be met with kindness, respect, and genuine care.

We at Newhaven are proud to offer residential care in the peaceful village of Northrepps, Norfolk, providing a supportive home for adults with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs, and sensory impairments. Our setting blends countryside calm with attentive, person centred care for those who need it most. Tucked away in the NR postcode area, our home benefits from the quiet charm of rural north Norfolk whilst remaining within easy reach of nearby coastal towns and community amenities. The gentle pace of village life provides a reassuring backdrop for residents, offering space to breathe, opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, and a strong sense of belonging within a close knit community. Our specialisms reflect the diverse needs of the adults we welcome through our doors. We support people living with learning disabilities and autism, those managing mental health conditions, individuals with visual or hearing impairments, and younger adults who benefit from a tailored, age appropriate environment. In practice, this means we take time to understand each person as an individual, building care plans around their preferences, routines, communication styles, and aspirations. For families, this translates into the reassurance that their loved one is genuinely seen, heard, and supported in ways that respect their independence and dignity. Day to day, our approach focuses on helping residents lead meaningful lives. Whether that involves encouraging hobbies, supporting community involvement, or simply being present during quieter moments, we aim to make each day purposeful. For adults with sensory impairments, we work thoughtfully to adapt our environment and communication so that everyone can engage confidently with their surroundings. We want to be open and transparent about our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection, carried out in November 2022, which awarded us an overall rating of Requires Improvement. The inspectors recognised that we were Good in the areas of Effective care and Caring, reflecting the warmth, compassion, and skill our team brings to supporting residents every day. They also identified that improvements were needed in how Safe and Responsive our care was, and rated Well led as Inadequate. We take these findings seriously and view them as an important opportunity to strengthen our practices, leadership, and governance so that every aspect of life at our home reflects the high standards our residents and their families rightly expect. Choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that responsibility. If you are exploring options for a loved one and would like to learn more about life at Newhaven, our approach to specialist support, or the progress we are making, we warmly invite you to get in touch. Taverham Grove is a residential care home near Norwich, caring for older people who can no longer manage safely on their own. We aim for the atmosphere of a house rather than an institution, with people keeping their own routines, their own belongings and a real say in how the day goes. We support people living with dementia, where a steady and familiar routine is worth more than anything else we could provide, and people with sight or hearing loss, where sensible practical adjustments often make more difference to a day than anything else. We also care for younger adults, planning their day around their own interests rather than around everybody else's. Respite stays are available too, for people who need care for a short while after illness and for family carers who need a proper break. We plan short stays with the same attention as a permanent move, so nobody arrives feeling temporary. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. Until we do, the honest answer is that you should come and look. See whether people are up and occupied, whether mealtimes are sociable and whether the staff talk about the people here as individuals. That will tell you more than any document.

We at New Dawn are proud to offer warm, person centred residential care in the heart of Norwich, providing a genuine home for adults with a range of support needs across Norfolk and the wider East of England. Our residential care home has been thoughtfully designed to feel welcoming, familiar and safe from the moment you step through the door. Set within the NR postcode area of Norwich, our home benefits from the character and community spirit of this historic city, whilst offering a peaceful and comfortable environment for those who live with us. Communal areas encourage sociability and shared moments, whilst private spaces give residents the calm and dignity of somewhere that is truly their own. We understand that the environment plays a powerful role in wellbeing, and we work hard to make our home feel just that, a home. Our specialisms reflect the diverse needs of the people we support. We provide dedicated care for adults living with a learning disability or autism, and for those with a physical disability, ensuring that support is tailored to each individual rather than shaped by a one size fits all approach. We also welcome younger adults, recognising that meaningful, age appropriate support can make an enormous difference to confidence, independence and quality of life. In practice, this means our team takes the time to understand each resident as a person first, learning their routines, preferences, communication styles and aspirations, and building daily life around what matters most to them. For families considering respite care, we offer a reassuring option for short stays, whether that is to provide a loved one with a change of scene, to support recovery after a hospital stay, or simply to give family carers the opportunity to rest, knowing their relative is in safe and attentive hands. Respite guests are welcomed with the same warmth and attention to detail as our longer term residents, and we aim to make every stay feel positive and settled. Our approach is grounded in dignity, choice and inclusion. We believe that everyone we support has the right to be listened to, to make decisions about their own life, and to be encouraged to pursue the interests, friendships and goals that bring them joy. Whether that involves quiet companionship, engaging activities within the home, or maintaining important links with family and the local community, our team is here to help make it happen. Families can take reassurance from our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection, carried out in July 2022, in which we were rated Good overall. This positive rating was reflected consistently across every domain assessed by the regulator, with Good ratings for being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. For loved ones searching for a home they can trust, this consistency offers meaningful reassurance that the standards of safety, compassion, leadership and personalised support are maintained throughout every aspect of daily life at New Dawn. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the mixture of emotions that can come with it. Our door is always open to families who would like to learn more about our home, meet the team and see for themselves the atmosphere we have created. Whether you are exploring long term residential care, considering respite, or simply beginning your research, we would be delighted to hear from you and to help guide you through the next steps with warmth, honesty and understanding. Walnut House is a care home in Dereham, Norfolk. We provide residential care for adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather set that out at the start than let a family find it later. The inspection identified things that were not good enough for the people living here, and we have accepted that. Anyone considering us should ask precisely what was found and precisely what has changed since, and should not settle for a general answer. What we are working towards has not changed. The people here are adults with their own preferences, and support should be planned with each of them individually: how the week should run, what they want to do for themselves, how they communicate and what makes a place feel safe rather than unsettling. Routines are kept steady and changes are explained well in advance, because unpredictability costs some of the people we support a great deal. Please visit before deciding anything. Meet the people living here, read the inspection report in full and judge us on what you find.

New Boundaries Group provides residential care in Norwich for adults, including younger adults and adults with learning disabilities and autism. We also offer planned respite stays. The people who live here are adults with their own lives to lead, and our job is to make those lives possible rather than to run them. Everybody has their own room, their own routine and a proper say in how the house works. Our staff help with personal care, medicines, meals, money and the ordinary business of a household, and we stand back wherever somebody can manage alone. The detail is where the real work lies. How a person communicates, what makes an environment tolerable, how much notice they need before something changes, and which parts of the day they would rather handle themselves are all things we learn from the person. When change is unavoidable, we prepare for it properly instead of announcing it on the morning. Life here is meant to reach beyond the front door as well. We support people to keep up with family and friends and to get to the groups, activities, work or education that matter to them, because being part of the area you live in is not an optional extra. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please visit, and spend time with the people who already live here.

Terrington Lodge provides residential care near King's Lynn for older people, including people living with dementia, and we also take planned respite stays. Most of what makes a care home a good place to live is undramatic. Getting up when you choose, food you actually want to eat, a familiar face on shift, and somebody noticing when you are quieter than usual. That is where our effort goes. Residents decide how their own days run, keep their own belongings around them and see visitors whenever it suits them. For residents living with dementia, familiarity does most of the work. The same faces, a recognisable shape to the day, and time to do things at the pace somebody can manage. We work with what a person can still do rather than treating a diagnosis as the whole story, and we pay attention to the signs that tell us somebody is uncomfortable or in pain when they can no longer say so directly. A calm unhurried approach prevents far more distress than it ever costs in time. Respite stays give family carers a proper rest and let people try us out without any longer commitment. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask residents and relatives regularly how we are doing, and the uncomfortable answers are the useful ones.

Ashill Lodge Care Home is a residential home in Thetford, Norfolk, looking after older people who need support with daily living. Much of our work is with residents living with dementia. We keep the house calm and familiar, give people time rather than hurrying them through the day, and make sure that staff know each resident's history and habits, because that knowledge is what turns a set of tasks into care that actually fits the person. Residents bring their own belongings, keep their own routines, choose how they spend the day and see visitors when they like. Meals are planned around what people genuinely enjoy, and there is somewhere quiet for anyone who would rather be out of the company. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places, whether for a planned family break or for support while somebody regains strength after illness. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would sooner say so ourselves than leave you to find it elsewhere. We know which areas were identified, we have an improvement plan in place and we are working through it with our staff team. Ask us about it directly and we will give you a straight answer. The only real way to judge a home is to walk through it. Please come at a time that suits you and talk to residents and their families.

Emerald House is a residential care home in Norwich. We support older people who need help with everyday living, and we also support younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities and autistic people. Respite stays are available for planned breaks and for the times when a family needs cover at short notice. Because we support a mix of people, we start from the person rather than from a standard package. We ask what a good day looks like, what someone wants to carry on doing for themselves, what they find difficult, and what they would rather we did not fuss about. That becomes the support plan, and it gets revisited whenever life shifts. For autistic people and for people with learning disabilities, predictability is often the most valuable thing we offer. We explain changes before they happen, keep the staff team as consistent as we can, and pay attention to noise, light and the small environmental things that make a room comfortable or unbearable. For older residents, the priorities are usually different: privacy, dignity in personal care, good food, and company available but never imposed. Norfolk families often want to keep someone close by rather than move them out of the area, and we understand why that matters. Visitors are welcome, and we would rather you came on an ordinary day than a tidied up one. Ring us and arrange a time.

The Beeches is a residential care home in Norwich, Norfolk, providing a permanent home for adults who need care and support with everyday life. We are a household first, and how we run the place follows from that rather than from any timetable of ours. Our care is residential rather than nursing. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals, mobility and company, calling in community health professionals whenever something more clinical is needed. Many of the people living here have dementia, and we put our effort into the quiet things that actually help: familiar staff who know a person's history, a routine that stays where it is, food that is recognisable and reassurance repeated as often as it is wanted. We also support younger adults, and we plan around what they want from their lives rather than assuming their days should look like anybody else's. Respite stays are available too, giving family carers a genuine break and letting a prospective resident spend time here before anything permanent is settled. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are proud of it, and clear eyed about the fact that it describes what was found at one point and has to be lived up to every day since. Please visit and see for yourself.

Dorrington House (Watton) is a residential care home in Norfolk, caring for older people who can no longer manage comfortably on their own. We aim for the feel of a house rather than an institution, with people keeping their own routines, their own belongings and a real say in how their day is spent. We support people living with dementia, and that work rests on continuity above all else. Knowing what somebody's day used to look like and keeping as much of it as we can matters more than any amount of written planning. Respite stays are available too, for people needing care for a short period and for family carers who need a genuine break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was requires improvement. We would rather put that in front of you ourselves than leave you to find it elsewhere. We have worked through the findings and our attention has gone to the things that shape daily life here rather than to paperwork alone. Anyone considering Dorrington House should come and visit, talk to the team and ask us directly what has changed and how we are making sure it holds. Those are fair questions and we will answer them honestly.

We are Bishop Herbert House, a residential care home in Norwich. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available. That is a wide range of needs living under one roof, and it only works if we plan properly. Somebody who wants a sociable, busy day and somebody who needs quiet and an entirely predictable routine can both live well here, provided we pay attention to who needs what and when. So we ask, we observe, and we adapt rather than running everyone to the same timetable. The help itself covers personal care, medication, meals and mobility, and we give proper attention to access and communication where those matter. We are just as concerned with supporting what people can still do themselves, because independence lost unnecessarily is very hard to get back. Families and friends are welcome at any reasonable hour, and we keep relatives informed rather than waiting to be asked. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Sunnycroft Care Home is a residential care home in Norwich. We provide a home for older people, including those living with dementia and people with a physical disability, and we also offer respite stays when somebody needs a short period of care or a family carer needs a break. What we want to offer is a settled, familiar place. Residents bring their own furniture and photographs, keep their own routines and decide how their days run. We ask in detail about preferences, because how somebody likes their morning to go is the shape of the rest of their day. Some want company from breakfast onwards, others want a quiet room and their own television, and both are entirely reasonable. We need to be straight with you about where we stand. Our most recent overall judgement from the Care Quality Commission was that we require improvement. We accepted that rather than disputing it, we have a plan of work in hand and we are making progress against it with support from the local authority and health colleagues. Families deserve to hear that from us rather than find it elsewhere. If you are considering Sunnycroft for a relative, please come and look round, speak to our staff and the people who live here, and ask us exactly what the concerns were and what has changed. Anybody choosing a care home in Norwich should be asking those questions, and we will give you honest answers rather than a sales pitch.

We are Cascade at Charlton House in Norwich, a residential care home supporting younger adults with a learning disability and adults who are autistic. We also offer respite stays. Support here is built around individuals rather than around a house routine. We take the time to learn how each person communicates, what they enjoy, what unsettles them and how they like things done, and the week is shaped by what the person wants from it. That might mean college, work, volunteering, regular time with family, or a settled routine that nobody interferes with. People choose their own food, keep their own belongings and habits, and have a real say in how the house is run. Where somebody wants to take on more for themselves, we support that steadily and at their pace, and we expect it to take as long as it takes. When a person becomes distressed, we treat it as information rather than as a problem to be controlled. There is nearly always a reason, and knowing somebody well is what allows us to find it. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are proud of it, and we know it has to be earned again every day. The Old Rectory at Hevingham is a residential care home near Norwich, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities. Most of those living here are younger adults, and respite stays are part of what we do. This is a home rather than a placement, and the difference shows in ordinary decisions. People arrange their own rooms, share properly in the shopping and the meals, and have a hand in how the household runs. Where somebody can do a thing themselves, our job is to make that possible rather than to do it faster on their behalf. What we are really supporting is a life with something in it: a job, a course, a club, somewhere regular to go. Those are the purpose rather than extras, and being in a village means people get known locally on their own terms. We are careful with routine and generous with warning, because for several people here knowing what is happening is what makes a day workable. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here what they would change, and we tell them plainly when we cannot.

Here at The Willows, we are a residential care home based in Attleborough, Norfolk, supporting adults with a range of needs including learning disabilities, autism, and those who benefit from a more structured and nurturing environment. We also welcome younger adults and offer respite care for those who need a short break or temporary support. We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a person or family will make, and we do not take that lightly. Our aim is to create a genuine home from home, where the people we support feel safe, valued, and heard. We work hard to understand each person as an individual, building support around their preferences, routines, and goals rather than fitting them into ours. Our team works closely with residents, their families, and external professionals to make sure care plans reflect real lives and real needs. We believe that good communication is at the heart of everything, and we actively encourage families to stay involved and to raise anything on their minds at any time. We want to be straightforward with you. Our most recent CQC inspection resulted in a "requires improvement" rating, and we have taken that seriously. We have listened carefully to the findings, and we are actively working through clear and focused improvements. We are committed to being open about where we are and what we are doing about it, because honesty matters to us and to the people in our care. West Wood Care Home is in Sheringham, and we provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, for residents with a physical disability or with sight and hearing loss, and for some younger adults whose needs suit a home like ours. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and whatever else has become hard to manage, and we try to leave people in charge of everything else. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they sit, what they eat and whether they want company or a quiet room with the door shut. For residents living with dementia we keep the surroundings familiar and the staff consistent, explain what is happening as we go and take time to work out what is behind a change in mood. Where somebody has a physical disability the right equipment is in place and staff are trained to help with moving safely and comfortably. For residents with sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate and do not rearrange things without saying so. Being close to the north Norfolk coast matters to many of our residents, and getting out for some air is part of ordinary life here rather than a special outing. Respite stays are available for family carers needing a break or for somebody regaining strength after illness. Please ring us if you would like to visit and look round properly.

The Crown is a rest home in King's Lynn, Norfolk. We are home to older people, both for the long term and for shorter respite stays when a family carer needs a break. Our priorities are the ones residents raise: the food, the temperature, how long help takes, and whether they can please themselves in the afternoon. We would rather know one person properly than have a tidy file on everybody. That knowledge is what lets staff notice a change before it becomes a crisis. Respite guests are properly welcomed rather than merely accommodated. We ask beforehand how the person likes things done, because a short stay gives us no time to learn it gradually. A good number of our residents have lived in this part of Norfolk all their lives, and they know it far better than we do. There is a great deal to be said for a conversation about the town with somebody who has watched it change over eighty years. Declining to join in is always allowed here. We ask, we ask again another day, and we do not treat a preference for one's own company as a problem to be solved. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Families are welcome to arrive unannounced.

Carleton House is a residential care home in Norwich. Ours is a place where people live, not simply a place where care is delivered, and we try to keep that distinction at the front of everything we plan. Most of the people who make their home with us are older, and many are living with dementia. We also support people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we offer respite stays for those who need care for a short period, whether that is after a spell in hospital or to give a family carer a genuine break. Living well with dementia depends a great deal on familiarity and calm. We keep routines steady, we give people time rather than hurrying them, and we pay attention to the small preferences that make a day feel like your own. Meals matter, company matters, and so does the freedom to spend an afternoon quietly if that is what you would rather do. Families are welcome throughout, and we would much rather they felt able to drop in than had to make an appointment. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We are glad of that, but we know a rating only reflects a moment in time, so we keep listening to residents and relatives and we act on what they tell us. Anyone thinking about a move here is welcome to visit, ask difficult questions, and see the home as it really is.

Broadlands Park Residential Care Home is in Norwich, and we provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, along with respite and short stays. We would rather be straightforward with you. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We accepted the findings, we have been working through them, and if you are considering the home for a relative we would expect you to ask us exactly what has changed and what is still outstanding. What we are trying to offer is not complicated, though it is hard to do consistently. A comfortable house where older people are looked after properly, treated as adults and left in charge of their own days as far as they are able. That begins with asking how somebody has always lived and then actually working that way rather than fitting people to a routine that suits the rota. Dementia care here depends on familiarity. We keep staffing as steady as we can, we do not hurry anyone, and we take the trouble to learn what reassures a particular person. Families often find this stage hard, and we try to give them honest information rather than comfortable reassurance. Norwich and the villages around it are where most of our residents have spent their lives, and visitors are welcome through the day. Please come and look round, speak to residents and relatives while you are here, and judge the place for yourself.

Nestled within the market town of Dereham in the NR postcode area, our home benefits from the friendly community atmosphere and gentle pace of life that this part of Norfolk is known for. Families visiting from across Norfolk and the wider East of England will find us easily reachable, making regular visits and shared moments all the more possible. Our specialisms centre on older person care, residential care, dementia care and respite care, meaning we are able to support a broad range of needs under one roof. For those living with dementia, our approach is built around patience, familiarity and gentle routine, helping residents feel safe and reassured whilst preserving their sense of self. Our residential care offers day to day support with everything from personal care to medication, mealtimes and companionship, tailored around each individual's preferences and life story. For families in need of shorter term support, our respite care provides a trusted place to stay, whether following a hospital admission, during a family holiday, or simply to give a loved one and their regular carer a well earned rest. What this looks like in practice is a home where residents are known as individuals, where their histories, hobbies and daily preferences shape the care they receive. Families are welcomed as partners in care, kept informed and involved in decisions, and reassured that their loved one is in kind and capable hands. We are pleased that our commitment to quality has been recognised by the Care Quality Commission, which rated us Good overall at our most recent inspection in October 2024. This rating was achieved across all five key areas: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. For families, this offers independent reassurance that the care provided here meets the standards you would rightly expect for someone you love. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that choice. If you are exploring options for a relative in Dereham or the wider Norfolk area, we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask any questions you may have, and see for yourself the caring community we have built at Lyles House.

Arranging residential care in Norfolk and covering the cost
Getting needs assessed
Fees, vacancies and waiting lists all become easier to discuss once someone independent has set down what the person actually needs, and that assessment is free to anyone who appears to require care whatever their savings. Assessment and funded placements in this county are handled by Norfolk County Council, whose assessor considers personal care, nutrition, mobility, medication, mental wellbeing and the risks of staying where the person lives now. The written outcome explains what support is needed and whether residential care is the way to provide it, and homes will want to read it before confirming they can meet those needs. A relative giving regular unpaid support is entitled to a carer's assessment of their own at the same time.
Working out the contribution
A financial assessment then sets capital and income against the national thresholds. Above the upper threshold a person normally meets the full cost, below it the council contributes, and the treatment of a property turns on whether a partner or a qualifying relative still lives in it. Deferred payment agreements allow a placement to be funded against a house that is not being sold at once, which matters in an area where a sale can take time. If health needs are substantial rather than simply personal care needs, ask whether NHS continuing healthcare should be assessed instead.
What the weekly fee reflects
Cost follows the size of the room and whether it has an en suite, the staffing level, the location of the home and how specialist the support must be, with dementia and learning disability provision generally staffed more heavily. Ask for a written breakdown and ask directly what falls outside it, because hairdressing, chiropody, escorted appointments and outings are routinely charged on top. Confirm how often fees are reviewed and what notice of an increase is given, and read the contract on hospital admissions and notice periods before signing.
Choosing among the homes listed for Norfolk
Making the ratings useful
Judgements here cover the entire scale, from Outstanding down to Inadequate, with some homes not yet rated. The grade condenses five separate assessments covering whether a service is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led, and which of those fell short changes everything. A home criticised over record keeping occupies a different position from one criticised over medication or safeguarding, and only the report itself distinguishes them. Check the date as well, since a judgement made some years ago may describe a home under an owner or manager who has since moved on.
Cutting the list down before you drive
Registration is the sharpest filter, because homes are approved for particular groups, whether older people, adults living with dementia, or adults with a learning disability or autism, and one that lacks the relevant registration cannot take a person on. Travel is the second consideration, and in a county where journeys between towns take longer than the map suggests, honest thinking about who will visit each week matters. Fee level is the third, and settling it before a viewing avoids disappointment afterwards.
What a visit should show you
Arrive at a busy hour, ideally near a mealtime, when a home is hardest to present artificially. Look at whether residents seem occupied and comfortable, whether staff address people by name and at eye level, and whether call bells are answered rather than left ringing. Ask how many permanent staff cover the night shift, what turnover has been over the past year, and how much agency cover is used. Ask what happens when someone's needs increase beyond what the home can manage, and ask to see the last fortnight of activities rather than a printed timetable.
Frequently asked questions about care homes in Norfolk
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Norfolk?
Contact the adult social care team at Norfolk County Council and ask for one, whether you are the person needing care, a relative, or a professional such as a GP or hospital discharge nurse. There is no charge for the assessment and no means test to qualify for it. The assessor will discuss daily routines, health conditions, mobility and what happens on a bad day, so it helps to have someone present who knows the usual pattern of the week. The written outcome is what every later conversation about funding will rest on.
Can Norfolk County Council fund a residential care placement?
It may, depending on the outcome of two separate assessments. The care needs assessment has to establish that the person meets the national eligibility criteria and that residential care is the appropriate way to meet those needs. A financial assessment then compares capital and income against the published thresholds, so people above the upper limit generally fund themselves while those below receive a contribution. Norfolk County Council can also explain deferred payment arrangements where someone's money is tied up in a property.
What providers are included in this Norfolk listing?
Two hundred and fifty six providers appear here, all registered with the Care Quality Commission as residential care homes. Registration on that basis means they supply accommodation together with personal care, so help with washing, dressing, meals, mobility and medication comes from staff on site through the day and night. The homes are approved for different groups, some concentrating on older people and others on learning disability, autism or mental health support. Each profile records exactly what that home is registered to provide.
How does a residential care home differ from a nursing home?
A residential care home provides somewhere to live along with personal care from trained care staff, covering bathing, dressing, eating, moving about and taking medication. A nursing home is registered for all of that plus clinical care from a registered nurse who is present on the premises at all times. Every provider on this page is registered as a residential care home rather than a nursing home. Should someone's health needs later require regular nursing attention, a fresh assessment would identify that and a move might become necessary.
How far ahead should a family start looking?
Allow a few weeks where circumstances make it possible, because well regarded homes often operate waiting lists and vacancies do not appear on demand. That time makes second visits possible, allows inspection reports to be read properly and leaves room to question the contract rather than signing in haste. Where a hospital discharge is setting the pace, ask the discharge team what interim arrangements exist so a permanent decision is not made under pressure. Even at short notice, comparing two or three homes is far better than accepting the first bed offered.
What is worth asking on a visit to a care home in Norfolk?
Begin with staffing, asking how many permanent staff work by day and overnight and how much agency cover the home relies on. Ask how staff respond when a resident becomes unwell or distressed, how medication errors are recorded, and how quickly relatives are told when something has gone wrong. Cover the ordinary detail too, including visiting arrangements, laundry, whether a familiar GP can be retained and which charges sit outside the weekly fee. If you are invited to stay for a meal, take it, because mealtimes reveal how a home actually runs.
