About The Old Rectory - Hevingham
The Old Rectory at Hevingham is a residential care home near Norwich, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities. Most of those living here are younger adults, and respite stays are part of what we do. This is a home rather than a placement, and the difference shows in ordinary decisions. People arrange their own rooms, share properly in the shopping and the meals, and have a hand in how the household runs. Where somebody can do a thing themselves, our job is to make that possible rather than to do it faster on their behalf. What we are really supporting is a life with something in it: a job, a course, a club, somewhere regular to go. Those are the purpose rather than extras, and being in a village means people get known locally on their own terms. We are careful with routine and generous with warning, because for several people here knowing what is happening is what makes a day workable. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here what they would change, and we tell them plainly when we cannot.
