Families weighing up care homes in Hampshire will find three hundred and sixteen registered providers gathered on this page, each of them a residential care home. Inspection outcomes across the collection differ: some homes hold an Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission, others are rated Good, some are marked Requires Improvement, and a few have registered too recently to have been rated at all. Hampshire County Council is the authority responsible for carrying out a care needs assessment, which establishes what level of daily support a person actually requires, and it also completes the separate financial assessment that decides whether any part of the fees will be met from public funds. Asking for both before a placement is agreed is worth doing, whatever the likely outcome on funding. Every home listed here has its own profile, so the sensible next step is to open the ones that suit your location and budget, read the inspection report sitting behind the rating rather than the rating alone, and let what you find there shape the questions you put to the manager when you visit.

- Care Home
Cornerleigh is a residential care home in Havant in Hampshire. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and people with physical disabilities, and we offer respite stays for people who usually live elsewhere. We run this as somebody's home, which sounds obvious and is easy to lose sight of. People's rooms are theirs to arrange. The people who eat the food choose the food. Weekend plans get decided by the people going. We ask rather than assume, and when the answer is no, that is the answer. A lot of our work is about widening what is possible rather than filling time. Cooking something you actually like. Handling your own money with confidence. Getting the bus into town on your own. Keeping a course going, or a job, or a friendship. Some of that happens quickly, some takes years and some never quite comes off, and we do not treat the last of those as a failure. The chance being genuinely available is what counts. Where somebody's physical disability affects how they move about, we design around them rather than expecting them to fit the building, and we are careful that help with a task never quietly becomes help with everything. We learn how each person communicates, write it down and make sure everybody responds the same way, because that is what makes a house feel predictable. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our last inspection, and we keep looking for what could be better.

- Care Home
Engleburn Care Home is a residential home in New Milton, Hampshire. We are a permanent home to older people, and we also offer respite stays for those who need care for a short period or whose family carer needs a break. Most of our residents need help with washing and dressing, moving about safely, medication and meals, and reassurance that somebody is nearby at night. Many are living with dementia, and we let that shape the whole house rather than treating it as a separate department. The day follows a recognisable pattern, familiar staff are around, people keep their own belongings and habits, and somebody who is anxious gets company and time rather than correction. We also support people living with mental ill health, working alongside community mental health colleagues so that what happens here fits with the rest of a person's care. Food is cooked on the premises and people are asked what they would like rather than told what there is. There is somewhere sociable to sit and somewhere quiet, the garden gets used when the weather allows, and visitors do not need an appointment. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Deciding on a care home is not something to do from a brochure, so please come and visit and talk to whoever is on duty.

- Care Home
Chestnut Court Care Home is a residential care home in New Milton, Hampshire. We look after older people, including those living with dementia, autistic adults and people with a learning disability, and younger adults. We also welcome people for respite stays. We want this to feel like somewhere people live rather than somewhere people are placed. Rooms belong to those in them, with their own furniture and pictures. The day has a shape but not a timetable, and nobody is pushed into joining anything. There is company for those who want it and quiet for those who would rather have their own. Looking after a mixed group properly means paying attention to individuals. For someone living with dementia that means familiar faces, a steady routine and time given rather than rushed. For an autistic adult it might mean predictability, a calmer space and communication that actually fits them. We train our staff for this and keep the team as consistent as we can, because familiarity does more good than any technique. We work closely with GPs and community teams around New Milton, and we involve families in reviews and decisions. We would rather hear a concern the day it arises than at a formal meeting months later. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please ring if you would like to look round and see the home on an ordinary day.

- Care Home
Brendoncare Meadway is a residential care home in Winchester supporting older people. We offer permanent places and respite stays. We aim to run the home the way a household runs. People get up when they are ready rather than when a rota would prefer. They keep their own belongings, their own habits and their own opinions about the television. Meals are something to look forward to and to have a view about. Where somebody can do a thing for themselves, we support rather than replace, even when doing it for them would be quicker. The weeks after a move matter more than anything else, so that is where we put our attention. We want to know what somebody did for a living, who is important to them, what they like to eat, when they prefer to wake and what makes a bad day turn into a good one. None of that arrives on a form. Respite stays are part of what we do. A family carer who has gone a long time without a break needs a real one, and a planned short stay lets that happen with proper support in place. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit on an ordinary day.

- Care Home
Oakdene is a residential home in Waterlooville, Hampshire, for older people who need care, company and a settled place to live. We are a house rather than an institution, and we would like the people here to feel it belongs to them. We provide residential care, which means help with personal care, medication, meals, mobility and company, with community health professionals called in when something clinical is needed. We support residents living with dementia, and the things we rely on are unglamorous and effective: familiar staff, a routine that stays the same, food people recognise, and reassurance repeated as often as it is wanted. We keep an eye on the quiet signals, whether somebody is eating and sleeping properly or seems more withdrawn than usual, because those are generally the first signs that something needs looking at. Respite stays are available too, giving family carers a genuine rest and letting a prospective resident spend time here before any permanent decision is made. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We treat that as a standard to hold rather than a badge to display. If you are considering Oakdene for a relative, please come during an ordinary day, meet the people who live here and make up your own mind.

We are Denmead Grange Care Home in Waterlooville, Hampshire. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support younger adults whose needs suit a residential setting. Respite stays are available. Moving into a care home is a considerable upheaval, and we try to make it feel less like an ending than it can appear. People arrive with their own belongings and their own habits, and we work around those rather than expecting everyone to take on ours. What time you like to wake, where you want your breakfast, how sociable you feel on a given day: those decisions remain yours. For people living with dementia, most of the useful work is in the detail. Knowing somebody's history and the job they did. Recognising early what tends to unsettle them. Being willing to go at their pace rather than the rota's. Done properly, that prevents far more distress than it costs in time. We also make a point of supporting what people can still do themselves, because losing that unnecessarily is very hard to put right. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable hour and we tell them when something has changed rather than waiting to be asked. Please ring us if you would like to visit.

- Care Home
We are a residential care home in Basingstoke, offering a settled home to older people and to younger adults who need support with daily life. We also take people for respite stays, whether that is a planned break so a family carer can have some time to themselves, or a shorter arrangement while somebody gets back on their feet after an illness. What we are aiming for is straightforward. A place where the people who live here are known properly, where the days follow their own preferences rather than ours, and where help with the practical things arrives without fuss and without anybody feeling diminished by needing it. People bring their own belongings and their own habits. Families come and go as they like rather than sitting formally at set visiting times. The difference between a care home that works and one that does not usually lies in whether the staff stay long enough to know everybody well. We put a good deal of effort into that, because it is what allows somebody to notice that a resident is quieter than usual, or off their food, or in pain but not saying so. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are looking at homes for a relative, please come and see us. Half an hour here will tell you more than anything we could write. Contact us and we will arrange a visit at a time that suits your family.

Oakcroft is a residential care home in Four Marks, Hampshire, and we support adults with learning disabilities and autistic people, including younger adults working towards a more independent life. Respite stays are available too, for planned breaks and for occasions when a family needs cover quickly. We are a household rather than a facility, and the difference matters. People here have their own rooms and their own belongings, and a genuine say over how the day goes. The staff team is kept deliberately consistent, because support from people who know you well is a different thing altogether from support from whoever is on shift. Changes are explained in advance, the shape of the week stays predictable, and we pay attention to noise, light and the other details that decide whether somebody can settle. Support covers personal care, medication, meals, money and the practical business of running a home, and throughout we try to help people do things rather than do things for them. A skill kept now is a skill kept later, and we take that seriously. We are equally interested in what happens beyond the house. College, work or voluntary work, hobbies, friendships and family visits all matter, and helping people hold on to them is part of the job rather than an extra. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families and professionals are welcome to visit and ask us whatever they need to know.

Sundial Cottage Rest Home is a residential care home in Southampton. We support older people, including those living with dementia, people living with mental ill health, people with physical disabilities and people whose sight or hearing is impaired. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. We should say at the outset that our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are not going to gloss over it. We know what was found, we have an improvement plan and we are working through it with our staff team and with families, reporting progress to the inspectors and to the local authority. Anyone thinking about a place here should ask us exactly what is changing and how we are making sure it holds. What we are working to protect meanwhile is a small home where people are known rather than processed. Rooms that belong to the person in them. A day that is not run by a timetable. Visitors welcome without fuss. Staff who notice when somebody is not themselves. For people living with dementia we focus on familiarity and time, and where sight or hearing has changed we pay attention to the practical adjustments that keep somebody connected rather than cut off. Please come and look round, talk to our staff and put the difficult questions to us. We would rather have that conversation than have you wondering.

- Care Home
The Avenue Care Home provides residential care in Fareham for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people with mental health needs. We also take planned respite stays. Our aim is straightforward. People who live here should be able to carry on being themselves, with the help they need arranged quietly around them. That means choosing when to get up, what to wear, where to sit and who to spend time with, and having staff who know those preferences well enough not to have to ask twice. Practically, we help with personal care, medicines, meals, and everything involved in running the place. For residents living with dementia, we keep the day familiar and the pace gentle. Rushing somebody creates distress that then takes far longer to settle than the time saved. For residents with mental health needs, consistency and a lack of fuss matter, along with staff who notice early when somebody is less well than they were. Respite stays are worth mentioning in their own right. They give family carers a genuine break, and they let people see what we are like before making a longer decision. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. What matters more day to day is what residents and relatives tell us, so we ask them.

Little Brooke is a residential care home in Eastleigh for older people who need help with daily living, including many people living with dementia. We offer respite stays as well as permanent places. What we offer is fairly simple and we try to do it well. Help with washing, dressing and getting about, given at the person's own pace and in a way that protects their dignity. Medication managed properly. Three meals a day cooked here that people are glad to sit down to, with real choice at every one. Warm, clean rooms that people make their own with their own furniture and photographs. Company when it is wanted and quiet when it is not. With dementia we depend on knowing a person well, so we gather their history with their family when they arrive and keep adding to it, and we keep the shape of the day predictable because that helps more than anything else we could organise. We keep an eye on health without turning the house into a clinic. If somebody seems unwell we act early, involve the surgery and the district nurses, and tell families what is happening rather than waiting to be asked. Respite stays can give a relative who cares at home a genuine break, and they let somebody get to know us gradually. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated the home good overall.

Little Brook House is a residential care home in Southampton for older people who need help with daily living. We support people living with dementia and people with mental health needs, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Our everyday work is the ordinary business of a household run well. Help with washing, dressing and getting about, given at the person's own pace and as privately as possible. Medication managed properly. Meals cooked here with real choice. Rooms that people make their own with their own furniture and pictures. Company when it is wanted and quiet when it is not. We should be open about where we stand. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement overall. We did not dispute the findings. Since then we have strengthened staffing and supervision, tightened how we manage medicines and the records we keep, and had senior staff check the care actually being given rather than the care described on paper. That work is continuing and we are not going to claim it is finished. We would far rather raise this ourselves and answer questions about it honestly than leave a family to discover it later, and we are happy to go through the detail with anyone who asks. Anyone considering the home is welcome to visit, see how things are now, and talk to the people who live here.

We are The Whispers on Worting Road in Basingstoke, a residential care home supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. Most of the people who live here are younger adults. Being small is the basis of how we work. This is a house with a handful of people living in it, which means staff know everybody properly and the place runs around individuals rather than around a system. People have their own rooms set up the way they want, share the rest of the house, and have a real say in how things are done, from the weekly shop to how the day is organised. Support is built around what each person wants their life to look like. For some that means a busy week of college, work or activities out in the community. For others it means a settled routine at home with familiar company. Where somebody wants to take on more for themselves, we work at it gradually rather than assuming a limit on their behalf. Communication underpins everything. We take time to learn how each person tells us what they need, in whatever form that takes, and we make sure new staff learn it from the people who know it best before working alone. We work closely with families, social workers and health professionals, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Our most recent CQC overall rating is good. Please contact us to visit.

Cordelia House is a residential care home in Fareham. We look after older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia or mental ill health, and people with physical disabilities or sight and hearing loss. The house runs at a domestic pace. Help with washing, dressing, mobility and medication is given discreetly and at the time that suits the person, and we take trouble to learn how somebody has always liked things done before they move in. Those preferences are written down and staff are expected to follow them rather than fall back on a house routine. Where dementia is part of the picture we keep the day familiar and the faces consistent, and we use what relatives tell us about a person's working life and family to hold a conversation and to steady things when somebody is distressed. Where mental ill health is involved we work closely with community teams and make sure the person is properly included in decisions about their own care. Meals are cooked on the premises. Kiln Lodge is a residential care home in Fareham, caring for older people who can no longer manage safely on their own. We aim for the feel of a household rather than an institution, with people keeping their own routines, their own belongings and a genuine say in how their day is spent. We support people living with dementia, and that work depends on continuity above all else. Knowing what somebody's day used to look like, keeping as much of it as we can and understanding what sits behind distress rather than simply managing it is what makes the difference between a settled day and a hard one. Respite stays are available too, whether somebody needs care for a short period after illness or a family carer needs a genuine break. We plan short stays with the same attention as a permanent move. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take that as the standard to hold rather than something to point at. The Conifers is a small residential home in Basingstoke supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. Keeping the house small is deliberate, because it means everybody knows each other properly, the atmosphere stays calm, and staff notice quickly when somebody is not themselves. This is a home rather than a setting. People choose how their own room looks, join in with the shopping and cooking if they want to, and have a genuine say in how the household runs. Routines are built around the individual, including the ones that need to stay exactly the same from one day to the next, because predictability is often what allows a person to relax enough to try something new. Support is agreed with each person using whatever way of communicating already works for them, whether speech, signing, pictures or something particular to them, and we take the trouble to learn it properly rather than guessing. Being understood is the foundation of everything else we do. Getting out is part of ordinary life here, whether that means an activity during the week, work, seeing family or a trip that has become a fixture. Respite stays are available too. Hibernia in Southampton is a residential care home supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults building towards more independent living. We run this as a home rather than a unit. Everybody has their own room and their own belongings, and the shape of the day belongs to the people who live here rather than to a staff timetable. Support is agreed with each person and with those who know them best, and it ranges from full help with personal care through to prompting and encouragement while somebody manages things for themselves. Communication gets a great deal of attention. Learning how each person expresses themselves, what settles them, what they find hard and what a change in behaviour is telling us is the core of doing this properly, and what we learn is recorded so that the whole team supports the person in the same way. People are supported to have a life beyond the front door, keeping up interests and activities, getting out into Southampton, attending appointments and staying in contact with family and friends. Respite stays can be arranged where appropriate. If you are looking for a placement, please contact us and come and see the house for yourself.

We are Belford House, a residential care home in Alton, Hampshire. We look after older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support younger adults whose needs suit a residential setting. Respite stays are available. Moving into a care home is a considerable upheaval, and we try to make it feel less like an ending than it can appear. People arrive with their own furniture, pictures and habits, and we work around those rather than expecting everybody to take on ours. What time you like to wake, where you want your breakfast, how sociable you feel on a given day: those decisions stay with you. For people living with dementia, most of the useful work is in the detail. Knowing somebody's history and the job they did. Recognising early what tends to unsettle them. Being willing to go at their pace rather than the rota's. That prevents far more distress than it costs in time. We also make a point of supporting what people can still do themselves, because losing that unnecessarily is very hard to put right. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable hour. Please ring us if you would like to visit.

- Care Home
Jasmine House is a residential care home in Alton, Hampshire, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism and adults with physical disabilities. It is a home rather than a placement, and the household is arranged around the people living in it. Support here is individual. It can include help with personal care, medication, cooking, laundry, managing money and getting to appointments, and it takes in the parts of life that matter just as much: friendships, going out, keeping up an interest, being useful, having plans of your own. We communicate in whatever way suits each person, and we help people move about safely without taking over from them. We give people the time to do things themselves even when stepping in would be quicker, and where somebody wants more independence support is planned to withdraw gradually as they grow into it. Most of the people we support are younger adults, and we take care not to assume that shared circumstances mean shared wishes. Respite stays are available too, giving family carers a real break and letting somebody try the house first. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are pleased about that, and clear that it describes what was found at one point and has to be lived up to every day since. Please come and visit.

Mimosa Lodge is a residential care home in Southampton, Hampshire, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. We work mainly with younger adults, and we also offer respite stays for people who need support for a shorter period or whose usual carer needs a break. The people who live here are adults with their own preferences, opinions and plans, and our job is to support those rather than to manage them. Residents decide how their days go, what they eat, how their rooms look and what they want to work towards. Some are building skills around cooking, budgeting, travel or employment. Others want support to keep doing the things they already enjoy and to stay close to family and friends. Support plans are written with each person, using whatever way of communicating works best for them. We pay careful attention to what helps someone feel settled and what causes them stress, and we shape routines and surroundings around that instead of expecting people to adapt to us. We are part of the local community rather than set apart from it, and we support people to get out to work, college, clubs and family with as much or as little help as they want. The Care Quality Commission most recently rated us good overall. Please get in touch if you would like to visit and see how we work.

We are Titchfield Lodge, a residential care home in Fareham in Hampshire. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and younger adults who want a settled home of their own with the right help close by, and we also offer respite stays for people who live elsewhere. Our aim is for this to feel like a shared house rather than a service. People have their own rooms set up how they like them, they have keys, and they have a genuine say in how the place runs. Meals, outings, the television, the weekly shop, who does what around the house. All of it is up for discussion, and people are entitled to change their minds. A good deal of our work is quietly practical. Learning to cook a few meals, getting confident with money, travelling independently, keeping in touch with family, holding down a college course or a job. Some of these take years and some never come off entirely, and neither of those is a failure. What matters is that the chance is genuinely there and nobody is rushed. We pay close attention to how each person communicates and to what helps them feel calm when things get difficult. Those details are written down and shared so that everyone responds in the same way, which is what makes a place feel predictable and safe. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. We are pleased with it and we keep asking whether we are getting the small things right.

Lime Kiln House is a residential care home in Southampton supporting older people and younger adults, with particular experience of supporting people with mental health needs. We also offer planned respite stays. We try to provide the sort of place where somebody can settle. That means a calm and predictable environment, staff who are consistent and unflustered, and support that is steady rather than intrusive. We help with personal care and medicines where that is needed, with meals and the running of the house, and with the practical business of appointments, letters, money and the many small things that become difficult when somebody is unwell. Just as importantly, we try to support people towards whatever they want their life to look like next. That might be rebuilding confidence, repairing contact with family, getting back to work, education or activities, or simply getting through a day without it feeling like a struggle. We work at the person's pace, we avoid promises about timescales that nobody can keep, and we accept that trust takes time when somebody has been let down before. Respite stays give family carers a genuine break and let people see what we are like before making any longer decision. If you are considering a place here for somebody, please come and visit, ask us difficult questions, and spend time with the people who already live here, because they will tell you more than we can.

Here at The Warren Residential Lodge, we are a care home nestled in the coastal community of Lee On The Solent, Hampshire. We offer a warm, homely environment where residents feel genuinely at ease, supported by a team that takes the time to get to know each person as an individual. We care for a wide range of people with varying needs, including older adults, those living with dementia, and individuals with mental health needs, physical disabilities, or visual and hearing impairments. We also welcome younger adults and offer respite care for those who need a short break or some additional support during a difficult period. Whatever brings someone to us, we work hard to ensure their time here feels comfortable and meaningful. Our approach is straightforward. We listen, we observe, and we adapt. Care plans are built around the person in front of us rather than a one size fits all model. Residents are encouraged to maintain their routines, hobbies, and connections with family and friends, because we believe that quality of life matters just as much as day to day care. We are pleased that our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission resulted in an overall rating of Good, which reflects the effort our whole team puts in every single day. That said, we never see a good rating as a reason to stop looking at how we can improve. We continue to reflect on what we do and how we can do it better for the people who call The Warren Residential Lodge home. If you are exploring care options for yourself or someone you love, we would genuinely welcome the chance to show you around and answer any questions you might have. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

Sennen Lodge is a residential home in Southampton supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, most of them younger adults building the life they want. We keep the house small and calm on purpose. Everyone has their own room to retreat to, and the shared parts of the house belong to the people who live here rather than to the staff. Routines are planned around the individual, including the ones that need to stay exactly the same, because that predictability is often what makes everything else possible. Support is agreed with each person using whatever way of communicating already works for them, whether speech, signing, pictures or something particular to them, and we take the trouble to learn it properly. Being understood is the foundation of everything else we do. We start from what somebody already manages and work outwards from there. That might mean cooking together until a person is confident alone, sorting out travel so they can get to college or a job, or simply making sure the house runs in a way that suits how they take in information. Respite stays are available too, which gives families a break while their relative stays somewhere familiar with staff who know them. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to visit and see how the house works.

We are Allenbrook Nursing and Residential Care in Fordingbridge, Hampshire. We provide both nursing and residential care for older people, including those with a physical disability, and we also take respite stays. Offering both kinds of care under one roof has a practical advantage that matters more than it may sound. Somebody who comes to us needing residential support and whose health later becomes more complicated does not have to move somewhere new at exactly the point when a move is hardest. They stay where they are, with the staff and the surroundings they already know, and the level of care changes around them. Nursing cover is available at every hour, which also means care at the end of life can be given here rather than elsewhere. For residents with a physical disability, the difference between good care and poor care is usually time and detail: an unhurried transfer, equipment set up as it should be, and asking the person how they prefer it done. Respite guests are assessed and looked after exactly as permanent residents are. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Woodland Court Residential Home is in Fareham, Hampshire. We are a permanent home to older people, and we also offer respite stays for those needing care for a short period or whose family carer needs a break. Most of our residents need help with washing and dressing, moving about safely, medication given properly and on time, and meals worth looking forward to, with somebody nearby through the night. A good number are living with dementia, and we let that shape the whole house rather than treating it as a separate wing. The day follows a recognisable pattern, familiar staff are around, people keep their own belongings and habits, and somebody who is anxious gets company and time rather than correction. We also support people with physical disabilities, where equipment, seating and access decide how much independence somebody actually has. Food is cooked on the premises and people are asked what they would like rather than told what there is. There is somewhere sociable to sit and somewhere quiet, the garden gets used when the weather allows, and visitors do not need an appointment. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please arrange to come and see us and talk to whoever is on duty.

Ashlett Dale Rest Home near Southampton is a residential care home for older people who need help with daily living. We support people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss, and we offer respite stays. Our everyday work is the ordinary business of a household run well. Help with washing, dressing and moving about at the person's own pace and as privately as possible. Medication managed properly. Meals cooked here with real choice. Rooms that people make their own. Where there is sensory loss we attend to lighting, contrast and hearing aids that have actually been checked. We should be open about where we stand. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement overall. We did not dispute what was found. Since then we have strengthened staffing and supervision, tightened how we manage medicines and the records we keep, and had senior staff check the care actually being given rather than the care described on paper. That work continues and we are not going to claim it is finished. We would far rather raise this ourselves and answer questions honestly than leave a family to find it out later. Anyone considering the home is welcome to visit and see how things are now.

Squirrels is a residential care home in Southampton, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Most of those living here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. Our size means the household runs around its members. Staff know who likes an early breakfast and who cannot bear conversation before nine, without needing to look it up. People arrange their own rooms, have a real say in the food and the shopping, and are involved in how the place runs. Where somebody can do something themselves, our job is to make that possible rather than to do it faster for them. Where somebody wants a job, a course or a club, we treat that as the purpose of our support rather than an extra. Predictability is something we take particularly seriously. For many of those living here, knowing exactly what is happening and who will be on shift is the difference between a settled day and a difficult one. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would encourage you to ask residents rather than managers.

Fleet Hall Care Home is a residential home in Fleet, caring for older people who need support with everyday life, including residents living with dementia. What we provide is help with the ordinary business of the day, given without fuss: assistance to wash and dress, medication managed properly and on time, meals cooked on the premises, support to get about safely and staff available through the night. It reads simply, and much of it is, but doing it reliably and in a way that never makes somebody feel like a task on a list takes genuine attention. Dementia care here is built on familiarity. Keeping staff, routines and surroundings consistent removes much of the anxiety that comes with memory loss, so we plan rotas with that in mind and we ask families to tell us about working lives, music, habits and the things that will always get a response. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places, whether to give a family carer a planned break or to help somebody regain confidence after a spell in hospital. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families across Hampshire are welcome to visit.

Oaklands Rest Home is in Southampton, providing residential care for older people, including many residents living with dementia, along with respite stays for those who need care for a short period. We are a home rather than a hospital, and the difference shows in the things we pay attention to. Whether the food is worth looking forward to. Whether somebody gets to stay in bed on a wet Sunday if they want to. Whether the person helping you wash has enough time to do it without rushing you. Those are not the soft parts of care, they are most of it. Dementia support here rests on familiarity and patience. We keep the routine recognisable, we keep the staff team as steady as we can, and we take the time to learn about the life somebody had before they arrived. Knowing that a resident ran a shop for forty years, or raised four children, or cannot abide being fussed over, changes how every interaction goes. Families are welcome whenever suits them, and we would far rather hear too much from relatives than too little. Respite stays work well for carers needing a rest and for people recovering their strength after illness. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please visit, meet the residents and ask us anything at all.

- Care Home
Belmont Castle is a residential care home in Havant, supporting older people and younger adults from across Hampshire, including people living with dementia and people who have a physical disability. It is a handsome building and we are fond of it, but a care home is judged by its ordinary days rather than its frontage, so that is where our attention goes. Meals cooked here and eaten at a table. Personal care offered calmly and in private. Medication managed properly. Rooms that look like they belong to the person living in them. Staff awake overnight. Enough happening in the house to give the day a shape, and nobody pressed into joining anything they have no interest in. People keep their own routines wherever we can arrange it, because a home that insists everyone rises at the same hour and bathes to a schedule has quietly stopped being a home. For residents with a physical disability, getting about matters enormously. Accessible bathrooms, the right equipment, and staff who know how a particular person wants to be helped to move. Mobility lost because assistance was inconvenient is a loss we work hard to prevent. Where dementia is part of somebody's life we work on familiarity and calm instead of correction, and we ask relatives early for the history that helps us reach a person when they are distressed. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. Come and see the home, unannounced if you prefer, and talk to the people who live here.

Dimensions 40 Cody Road is a small residential care home in Farnborough, Hampshire, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. We also offer respite care for planned short stays. Being small is the point. It means the people who live here are known properly by a settled team, the house stays calm enough for those who need calm, and support can be shaped around individuals rather than around a rota. Everyone has their own room and their own things, and the day runs the way the people living here want it to run. We work on the ordinary business of an adult life. Cooking a meal you chose, doing the shopping, keeping your room how you like it, managing money and appointments, getting to college or work, seeing friends and family, and getting out locally when you feel like it. Where somebody wants to take something on for themselves we support that, even when it takes far longer than doing it for them would. How we communicate matters as much as what we do. We adapt to the person, whether that means signing, symbols, pictures, plain speech, extra time or a quieter room, because being properly understood is where everything else starts. We pay close attention to the environment too, since noise, pace and predictability often matter more than words. Support is agreed with each person and with anyone they want involved, written in a form they can understand, and reviewed honestly. If you are looking into a place or a short stay, please contact us.

We are The Oaks, a residential care home in Southampton. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, and we also offer respite stays. We plan around individuals rather than around a single routine. The people living here have quite different notions of a good week. Some want to be busy, with work, college, sport or regular groups and plenty of getting out into the city. Others want quiet and a rhythm they can rely on, and where change is unsettling we keep things steady and prepare carefully for anything unusual. This is their home, so decisions about food, decoration and how time is spent belong to the people living in it. Our job is to make those choices real, which sometimes means practical help with personal care, medication or cooking, and sometimes means standing back while somebody does something slowly for themselves. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. Until we have, we would encourage families and commissioners to ask us detailed questions about staffing, training and how support is planned here. Please contact us if you would like to look round.

Merceode Lodge is a residential care home in Southampton caring for older people, including those living with dementia, those with physical disabilities and those living with sight or hearing loss. We also support younger adults and offer respite stays alongside permanent places. We try to run a household rather than an institution. Residents get up when they are ready, eat what they like, keep their own habits and have a genuine say in the way their support is provided. Rooms belong to the people living in them, and we encourage families to bring furniture, photographs and the things that make a space feel familiar. Supporting someone living with dementia is largely about steadiness and knowing the person. We keep routines familiar, surroundings easy to understand and staffing as consistent as we can, and we ask families to tell us about the person's life so that our team can make sense of what is being said and respond to the feeling behind it. For residents with physical disabilities or reduced sight and hearing, the right equipment and sensible adjustments are what make independence possible, so we get those arranged rather than simply doing more for people. Families are welcome and we would far rather hear a concern early than have you worrying quietly. If you are considering a move for yourself or a relative, please come and look round and take your time.

Here at Orchard Close Care Home, we are proud to be part of the Hayling Island community in Hampshire, providing a genuine home from home for the people who live with us. We offer residential care, support for people with learning disabilities and autism, and respite care for those who need a short break or some additional support during a challenging time. Our focus is always on the individual — understanding who they are, what matters to them, and how we can best support them to live well and feel at ease. Hayling Island is a wonderful place to call home, and we make the most of our surroundings. Whether that means time outdoors, connections with the local community, or simply enjoying the calmer pace of life this area offers, we want the people we support to feel genuinely connected to where they live rather than removed from it. We know that choosing a care home — whether for yourself, a family member, or someone you support — is one of the most significant decisions a person can make. We take that seriously. Families are always welcome here, and we work hard to make sure that everyone feels informed, listened to, and reassured from the very first conversation. We are pleased that our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as Good, and we continue to reflect on and improve the way we work. That rating matters to us not as a tick box but as a measure of whether the people in our care are genuinely being well looked after. If you would like to find out more about life at Orchard Close, we would love to hear from you. Please feel free to get in touch or come and visit us to see things for yourself.

We know which areas were identified, work is under way on them, and we will go through the detail honestly with anybody who asks. The work itself is about ordinary life supported well. The house belongs to the people who live in it, so the decisions that matter belong to them. What goes on the shopping list. How a bedroom looks. How a weekend is spent. Support is planned individually and reviewed as people change. For autistic people, the environment is part of the care rather than the background. Where somebody lives with a mental health condition, we work alongside community teams so that support stays consistent and a hard period is met with patience. Please come and visit, meet the people who live here and form your own view.

- Care Home
Stables Flat is a small residential care home in Ringwood, Hampshire, supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. Being small is rather the point. It means the people who live here are not sharing a building with a crowd, that routines can be genuinely individual, and that the team knows each person properly rather than approximately. Our focus is on ordinary life rather than on care as an event. That means shopping, cooking, keeping your own space how you like it, getting to college, work or a club, and having a real say in how the week is shaped. For autistic people in particular, we pay close attention to the things that make a home feel manageable: predictable routines, fair warning when something is going to change, and a quiet place to retreat to when the day has been a lot. Support is offered at whatever level suits the person, and we are just as interested in what someone can do independently as in what they need help with. We also offer respite stays, which can be a useful trial for someone considering a move, or a break for a family who needs one. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. If you would like to know more, or to arrange a visit, we are happy to talk things through at whatever pace suits you and the person you are asking for.

- Care Home
Winscombe Care Home is a residential home in Fareham, Hampshire. We support adults who need help with daily living, including younger adults and people with physical disabilities. Our aim is an ordinary, settled household. Residents bring their own belongings, keep their own routines, decide how they spend the day and see visitors when they choose. There is company for anyone who wants it and somewhere quiet for anyone who does not, and meals are planned around what people actually enjoy eating. Support is planned with the person. We look at what somebody can manage themselves, what has become difficult and what they want help with, and we take care that assistance does not turn into taking over. Independence is easy to erode by accident and hard to give back. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places, whether to give a family carer a planned break or to support somebody while they regain confidence after illness. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would sooner raise that ourselves than have you come across it elsewhere. We know which areas were identified, we have an improvement plan and we are working through it with our staff team. Please ask us about it directly. The best way to judge a home is to walk through it. Come at a time that suits you and speak to residents and their families.

Speedwell Court is a residential care home in Southampton, providing a home and short stays for adults who need support with daily living. The people who live here have a wide range of needs. Some are older adults who need help with personal care, mobility and medication. Many are living with dementia, and for them we keep the day calm and familiar, give people time and take the trouble to learn about their lives so that staff can be genuine company rather than simply efficient. We also support people living with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we support younger adults as well as older residents. How we communicate and how the building is used are adapted so that everybody can take part in what is going on. Respite stays are available, giving family carers a planned break while their relative stays somewhere welcoming and well staffed. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are genuinely proud of that. What pleases us most is that it reflects the ordinary daily experience of the people who live here rather than anything arranged for the occasion, and we know it is something we have to keep earning. If you would like to see Speedwell Court, please ring and arrange a visit. Come and look round properly, talk to the staff and to the people living here, and ask us whatever you want to ask.

Twynham is a residential care home in New Milton in Hampshire. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and younger adults, and we offer respite stays for people whose usual home is elsewhere. We run this as a home that people live in rather than a service they receive. Rooms belong to the people in them and get arranged accordingly. The weekly shop is decided by the people who will eat it. Weekend plans are made by whoever is going. We ask rather than assume, and being told no is a perfectly good answer. Much of what we do is about widening what is possible rather than occupying the day. Cooking something you actually want to eat. Getting confident with money. Managing a journey into town alone. Keeping a course, a job or a friendship going. Some of it comes together quickly, some takes years and some never quite happens, and we do not count the last of those as a failure provided the chance was genuinely there and nobody was pushed into it. Understanding how each person communicates is the other half of the job, particularly where speech is not the main route. We learn each person's way properly, write it down so new staff respond identically, and keep checking we have understood. A predictable house is a calm one. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our last inspection.

Winchester Road in Alton is a small residential care home. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults, and we offer respite stays for people who need a short break or whose family carer needs one. This is a house on an ordinary road and we run it as a home rather than a unit. There are only a few of us, which means the people supporting you know you properly rather than reading your details from a file. Everyone has their own room and their own belongings, and a say in how the house runs, from the shopping list to what happens at the weekend. Support is planned with each person, in a form they can use, covering how they like to be helped, what they enjoy, what they find difficult and what they want to be doing with their time. People go out into Alton and the surrounding area, keep up college, work, clubs and family contact, and supporting that is the whole point of the place. Where somebody does not use speech, we learn how they do communicate and make sure every member of the team knows. When someone becomes distressed we look for the cause rather than the quickest way to stop it, and any restriction on freedom is agreed properly, recorded and reviewed. The Care Quality Commission rated us good overall at our most recent inspection. Families, advocates and professionals are welcome to visit.

Devon Lodge is a residential care home in Southampton. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and younger adults, and we offer respite stays for people who usually live elsewhere. We would rather be straight with you from the start. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us as requires improvement. We are not going to write around that. The findings were taken seriously, there is an improvement plan we are working through, and if you come and see us you should ask directly what has changed and what is still outstanding. You will get a plain answer. What we are trying to do has not changed. This is people's home and it should feel like one. Rooms belong to the people in them. The shopping is decided by the people who will eat it. Weekend plans are made by whoever is going. We ask rather than assume and we accept being turned down. A great deal of our work is about widening what is possible rather than filling the day: cooking, handling money, travelling into town, keeping a course or a friendship going. And we keep working at understanding how each person communicates, writing down what we learn so that everybody responds the same way. Improvement comes from listening and then acting rather than recording, and anybody is welcome to hold us to it.

Easterlea in Waterlooville provides residential care for older people. We are a home rather than an institution, and we try to keep daily life here comfortable, familiar and unhurried. People get up when they are ready and spend their time as they choose, whether that is in company in the lounge, out in the garden when the weather allows, or quietly in their own room with the paper and the radio. Meals are cooked on the premises and we will gladly make something different for anyone who fancies it. Support with washing and dressing is given calmly, because how care is given matters as much as what is given. We ask a lot of questions when someone moves in and we keep asking afterwards, because preferences change and a plan that is never revisited soon stops being true. We should be open about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather say so plainly and answer your questions about it than leave you to find it elsewhere, and that work has our full attention. We also offer respite stays for shorter periods. Relatives are welcome here throughout the day.

Glynn Court Residential Home is in Fordingbridge, Hampshire. We care for older people and younger adults, including residents living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. As a residential home our focus is daily life supported well, with general practitioners, district nurses and other community professionals involved when they are needed. We believe the quality of a care home shows in ordinary moments rather than in brochures. Whether someone is helped to get up at the hour they would choose. Whether the food is worth looking forward to. Whether staff know a resident well enough to notice when they are not themselves. For people living with dementia we keep the routine steady and the faces familiar, and we ask families for the details of a life that no assessment form captures. Respite stays are available for carers needing a planned break and for people recovering from illness. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are not going to talk around that. There is an agreed plan for the areas identified, we are working through it, and we would encourage anyone considering the home to ask us exactly what has changed and to come and see for themselves.

Rownhams Manor is a residential care home near Southampton in Hampshire. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available. Because the people living here have genuinely different needs, we plan care one person at a time. What settles somebody with dementia is not what helps somebody living with a long standing mental health condition, and one routine stretched across everybody suits nobody in particular. So we spend our attention on the details: how a person likes to be addressed, what they can still do and would rather do themselves, what tends to make a bad day and what heads it off early. Where sight or hearing loss is involved, habits matter more than equipment. Saying who you are as you come into the room. Leaving furniture exactly where it lives. Checking that hearing aids and glasses are clean and working rather than assuming. People here decide when they get up, what they eat and how they spend the day. Visitors are welcome whenever suits them, and we would far rather a concern reached us early and bluntly than be stored up for months. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission. You are welcome to visit and ask us anything you need to know.

Ocknell Park is a residential care home in Lyndhurst, in the New Forest. We support adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and people living with mental health conditions. The people who live here are largely younger adults. A home for younger adults has to be about building a life rather than winding one down. People living here have decades ahead of them, and support should open things up rather than close them down. So we talk about work and college, money and independence, cooking and travel, friendships and interests, and we expect people to take on more as time goes on. How we support somebody matters as much as what we do. For autistic residents in particular, predictable routine, clear information, honest notice of change and attention to sensory demands prevent far more distress than any response after the event. Where somebody is struggling, we look first at what is being asked of them. The New Forest is on the doorstep, and getting out into it is part of an ordinary week here, not a special occasion. We take respite bookings as well as permanent placements, and a short stay can be a sensible way for someone to see whether we suit them. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to visit Ocknell Park.

Pax Hill Residential Home EMF Unit is in Farnham, Hampshire. We provide residential care for older people, and for younger adults whose needs are best met in a home of this kind, with particular experience in supporting people living with dementia. Dementia care here is built on consistency and patience. We keep the day predictable without making it rigid, we keep familiar faces around people, and we take time at the start to learn somebody's history, habits and preferences from them and from their family. That knowledge is what lets us respond well when someone is unsettled, rather than guessing. We treat this as a home rather than a unit in the institutional sense. People decide how their room looks, when they get up, what they eat and how they spend the day. Where somebody can do something for themselves, we support them to keep doing it, because independence lost quickly is hard to get back. Respite stays are available as well, for families who provide care at home and need a proper break, and for people recovering after a hospital admission who need a little longer before going home. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would much rather you came and saw us than relied on a description. Here at Bonhomie Sarisbury Green, we are a care home based in Sarisbury Green in Southampton, Hampshire, and we support a genuinely varied group of people who come to us with different needs and life experiences. We work with adults who require residential care, including younger adults, and we have particular experience supporting people living with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health conditions. We also offer respite care for those who need a short break from their usual environment, as well as support for people affected by alcohol or drug misuse. We know that moving into a care home, or finding the right short term placement, can feel like a significant step for anyone involved. We try to make that process as straightforward and as human as possible, taking time to get to know each person before they arrive and continuing to listen closely once they are with us. The people we support are not a category or a diagnosis; they are individuals, and we try hard to make sure our approach reflects that. We are open about the fact that our most recent CQC inspection resulted in a requires improvement rating. We are not shying away from that. We have taken the findings seriously and we are actively working through the areas that need to change. Our team has been focused and honest in responding to what was identified, and we are committed to demonstrating real, sustained improvement over time. What we can say with confidence is that the people living here matter to us, and the staff who turn up each day genuinely care about the quality of life they help to create. We remain a community that is trying to do better, and we welcome anyone who would like to come and see us in person and ask questions directly.

| Nursing dementia care Middle half of prices from 37 South East homes. Median £2,050. | Not published separately | £1,975 to £2,226 |
Published prices are often starting prices, and come from homes that publish fees, so treat them as a guide. What a council pays differs from council to council. Ask the home for its own price. Powered by Orrery Intelligence.
Arranging and funding a care home place in Hampshire
Money and eligibility shape almost everything that follows, including which of the 325 care homes listed on this page are realistically within reach. Two separate pieces of assessment work sit behind most placements, and both are worth starting early, because homes with a strong local reputation can hold waiting lists.
Asking for a care needs assessment
Anyone who appears to need care and support can ask their local authority for an assessment, whatever their savings. A social care practitioner looks at daily living, mobility, medication, memory, and the risks a person faces at home, then records the level of support needed. Where residential care is the right answer, the assessment produces a care and support plan that any home can work from. Relatives acting for someone who cannot easily speak for themselves can ask to take part, and an advocate can be arranged where there is nobody else to fill that role.
Where Hampshire County Council fits in
Funded support follows a financial assessment carried out by Hampshire County Council once care needs have been agreed. Capital and income are both taken into account, and the outcome decides whether the council contributes towards fees, whether the person pays in full, or whether a deferred payment arrangement secured against a property would help. Even where someone is clearly funding their own care, the council still owes a duty to provide information and advice, so the process is rarely wasted effort.
Understanding what the fees cover
Weekly fees differ from one Hampshire home to the next and depend on the room, the level of personal care agreed, and whether any nursing input is involved. Ask each home for a written schedule showing what the fee includes and what is billed separately, since hairdressing, chiropody, and outings are often charged on top. Where a family prefers a home costing more than the council will pay, a third party contribution may be required, and that commitment has to stay affordable for the long term.
Choosing between care homes in Hampshire
Reading inspection outcomes properly
Ratings across this collection run from Outstanding through Good and Requires Improvement, alongside homes registered too recently to carry a judgement yet. Jasmine House, Sansa House, and The Conifers are among those holding Outstanding, while a Good rating still means the home met the standards the Care Quality Commission expects. Check the date of the inspection and read the findings on safety and leadership rather than the headline alone, because a judgement made some years ago describes the home as it was then, not necessarily as it is now.
What a visit should tell you
Arrange to visit at a busy point in the day, ideally around a mealtime, and notice whether residents look occupied and whether staff greet them by name. Ask how many carers are on duty overnight, how the home responds to a fall or a sudden illness, and how quickly families hear about it. Questions about staff turnover deserve a direct answer, because continuity of carers shapes daily life far more than furnishings do.
Matching the home to the person
Some homes in Hampshire are large purpose built settings for older people, while others are ordinary houses supporting a handful of adults with learning disabilities or autism. Think about the routine that would suit the person moving in, the distance relatives can travel comfortably and often, and whether the home could go on meeting needs as they change.
Frequently asked questions about care homes in Hampshire
How do we arrange a care needs assessment in Hampshire?
Contact adult social care at Hampshire County Council and ask for a care needs assessment for the person concerned. The assessment can take place at home or on a hospital ward, and there is no charge for it whatever the household savings. A practitioner will look at daily tasks, mobility, health conditions, and the support already in place, then set out what is needed. If residential care is recommended, the resulting plan gives every home you approach a clear description of the support required.
Can Hampshire County Council pay for a care home placement?
It can, where the care needs assessment shows residential care is required and the financial assessment shows the person cannot meet the full cost themselves. Capital and income are both considered, and any contribution is worked out individually rather than by a fixed rule. Where the council agrees to fund a place, it normally pays up to a level it considers sufficient to meet assessed needs, and a top up may be needed for a more expensive home. Deferred payment agreements are also possible in some circumstances where a property is involved.
Which providers offer residential care in Hampshire?
This page gathers three hundred and sixteen registered care homes across Hampshire, all of them residential settings inspected by the Care Quality Commission. They run from large homes for older people to small houses supporting adults with learning disabilities or autism. Each entry links to a profile showing the provider details and the current rating. Narrowing by location first, then by rating, is usually the quickest way to build a shortlist worth visiting.
What is the difference between a residential care home and a nursing home?
A residential care home provides personal care, meaning help with washing, dressing, medication, meals, and the shape of the day. A nursing home offers that same support with qualified nurses on site, which matters where there are complex medical needs such as wounds, feeding tubes, or unstable conditions. The homes collected on this page are registered for residential care. If a setting with nursing cover is needed, the care needs assessment should say so, and it saves time to establish that before booking visits.
How far ahead should we start looking at care homes in Hampshire?
Beginning a few months ahead is ideal, since it leaves room for an assessment, unhurried visits, and a considered choice. In practice families often start after a hospital admission or a sudden decline, when the timescale is days rather than weeks. Even then it is reasonable to ask about a short term placement while you look properly, rather than accepting the first vacancy offered. Registering interest early with homes you like costs nothing and puts you on the waiting list.
What should we ask when visiting a care home in Hampshire?
Ask how staffing levels change overnight and at weekends, and how long the current team has worked there. Ask what happens when a resident becomes unwell, which GP practice covers the home, and how quickly relatives are contacted. Ask to see the activities that actually ran over the past fortnight rather than a sample timetable, and how residents influence what is on offer. Finally, ask what the fee includes and what is charged separately, and ask for that answer in writing.
