Care Homes in Hampshire 325 care homes · 259 rated Good by CQC

Families weighing up care homes in Hampshire will find three hundred and sixteen registered providers gathered on this page, each of them a residential care home. Inspection outcomes across the collection differ: some homes hold an Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission, others are rated Good, some are marked Requires Improvement, and a few have registered too recently to have been rated at all. Hampshire County Council is the authority responsible for carrying out a care needs assessment, which establishes what level of daily support a person actually requires, and it also completes the separate financial assessment that decides whether any part of the fees will be met from public funds. Asking for both before a placement is agreed is worth doing, whatever the likely outcome on funding. Every home listed here has its own profile, so the sensible next step is to open the ones that suit your location and budget, read the inspection report sitting behind the rating rather than the rating alone, and let what you find there shape the questions you put to the manager when you visit.

    • Care Home

Oak View is a residential care home on Hayling Island in Hampshire. Those living here include older people, many of them living with dementia, and people managing mental health conditions. We support younger adults as well, and we offer respite stays. Having a range of ages and needs in one house means we plan for people individually rather than running a single routine and hoping it fits. What a resident in their forties wants from a Wednesday afternoon is rarely what somebody forty years older wants, and treating those as the same thing serves neither. Being on the Island shapes daily life in ways we try to use. The sea is close, the place is walkable, and people become known locally. That sort of ordinary familiarity is harder to arrange than it sounds and worth protecting. For residents living with dementia we keep the routine steady and the surroundings familiar, and we ask families for the working life, the places and the names, because those are what still connect when a good deal else has gone. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Relatives are welcome whenever they want to come, and they often notice things we have stopped seeing.

    • Care Home

Orchard Gardens is a residential care home in Eastleigh. We support older people who need help with daily living, including people living with dementia, and we take respite bookings for families needing a short break or a period of extra support after illness. We try to run the place the way a household runs rather than the way an institution does. People get up when they wake, eat what they actually like, keep their own furniture and photographs about them and carry on with the habits that make them feel themselves. Relatives are welcome without appointment, and we would far rather people dropped in than waited for a visiting slot. Supporting somebody living with dementia asks for patience and a good memory for detail. Our staff learn the small things: the favoured chair, the songs that settle somebody, the hours of the day that are harder, the stories worth hearing again. None of that appears in a care plan, but it is what separates a home that works from one that merely functions. When a person's needs are changing we raise it early with the family rather than arriving with a decision already taken. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are looking at residential or respite care in this part of Hampshire, please arrange to visit and we will show you round properly.

    • Care Home

66 Park Lane is a residential care home in Fareham, Hampshire. We support adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and people living with mental health conditions, and the people who live here include both younger adults and older people. We are a house rather than an institution, and being small is the point. Staff get to know the people they support properly, which is worth more than any written plan, and the household can be run around the people in it instead of around a rota. Support is agreed with each person. Some need help with personal care, medication and health. Others mainly want somebody alongside them so that a demanding world becomes manageable, and support to do things themselves rather than have them done. We expect people to take on more over time rather than settle into being looked after. For autistic residents in particular, how support is given matters as much as what is given. Routines that hold, clear information, honest notice before anything changes and real choice prevent far more distress than any reaction afterwards. Where somebody is struggling, we look first at what is being asked of them. Respite stays are available and can be a sensible way of finding out whether we suit somebody. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch to arrange a visit.

    • Care Home

We at Shawford Springs Care Home are proud to offer a warm and welcoming residential care home in Winchester, providing specialist support for older people, younger adults, and those living with dementia. Nestled within the historic county of Hampshire, our home has been thoughtfully designed to feel like a true home from the moment you step through our doors. Set within the peaceful SO postcode area of Winchester, our home benefits from the gentle rhythm of this beautiful cathedral city whilst offering residents a calm and settled environment in which to thrive. The surrounding area, with its blend of countryside charm and rich heritage, provides a wonderful backdrop for our residents, their loved ones, and the wider community we are pleased to be part of. Inside, we have created spaces that feel comfortable, familiar, and safe, where residents can relax, socialise, or enjoy quieter moments as they wish. Our care spans a broad range of needs, and we take great pride in tailoring our support to each individual who joins us. For older people, we provide compassionate residential care that upholds dignity, independence, and choice at every stage. For those living with dementia, our team offers patient, understanding support that focuses on reassurance, routine, and meaningful connection, helping residents to feel secure whilst continuing to enjoy the things that bring them comfort and joy. We also welcome younger adults who require residential care, ensuring their individual needs, interests, and aspirations are fully respected within a supportive community setting. We understand that caring for a loved one can sometimes feel overwhelming, and that families occasionally need a helping hand. Our respite care option provides a warm and welcoming stay for those needing short term support, whether following a hospital discharge, during a family holiday, or simply to give a regular carer a well earned break. Every respite guest is treated with the same care, warmth, and attention as our permanent residents, and many families find that a short stay offers valuable peace of mind and a chance to recharge. Quality and safety sit at the heart of everything we do. Following our most recent CQC inspection in August 2025, Shawford Springs Care Home was rated Good overall, with a Good rating awarded across all five key areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. This consistent recognition reflects the dedication of our team and the standard of care our residents receive each and every day. For families, this rating offers reassurance that their loved one is in capable, compassionate hands, and that the home is well managed, responsive to individual needs, and committed to continuous improvement. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we want you to feel confident, informed, and supported throughout the journey. Whether you are exploring long term residential care for a parent, considering specialist dementia support, seeking a home that welcomes younger adults, or looking for a short respite stay, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please do get in touch to arrange a visit, ask any questions, or simply have a chat about how we can help. At Shawford Springs Care Home in Winchester, your loved one will always be treated as part of our extended family.

    • Care Home

We are Winston Lodge, a residential care home in Waterlooville supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. Most of the people who live here are younger adults. The home works rather like a shared household. People have their own rooms arranged the way they want them, the rest of the house belongs to everybody, and decisions about how things run are made with the people living here rather than for them. Meals get planned together and cooked together where people want to be involved. Support is built around the life each person wants. For some that means a full week of college, work or activities out in the community. For others it means a settled rhythm at home with familiar company. Both are entirely reasonable, and our job is to make either work properly. Where somebody wants to take on more for themselves, whether that is cooking, handling money or travelling independently, we work at it at their pace and we do not assume a ceiling on anybody. Communication is the foundation of this work. We take time to learn how each person expresses what they want, in whatever form that takes, and we make sure that knowledge is shared with every member of staff. We work closely with families, social workers and health professionals, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Our most recent CQC overall rating is good. Old Alresford Cottage is a residential care home in Alresford, Hampshire. We are a permanent home to older people and to some younger adults, and we also offer respite stays for those needing care for a short period or whose family carer needs a break. The people who live with us need different things. Many need help with personal care, moving about safely, medication and meals. A number are living with dementia, and for them we keep the day recognisable, keep the same staff around and work at their pace rather than ours. We also support adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, and people living with mental ill health, working alongside the community teams involved in their care. What we are aiming for is a small house that feels like a home, with food cooked here, a garden that gets used, and visitors welcome without appointment. Please come and see us and ask us anything.

    • Care Home

We are Park House Rest Home, a residential care home on Hayling Island in Hampshire. We provide accommodation and personal care for older people, and we also support younger adults whose needs are better met in a homely setting than in a clinical one. Many of the people who live here are living with dementia or with a mental health condition, and our team is used to adapting the way we work so that someone feels settled rather than managed. Everything begins with getting to know a person properly. Before anyone moves in we talk with them and with the people who know them best, so that we understand the routine they are used to, what they enjoy eating, when they prefer to rise and go to bed, and what they would still like to do for themselves. That understanding becomes their care plan, and we revisit it as things change rather than leaving it to sit in a folder. We also offer respite care, whether that is planned time away for a family carer or a short stay while someone regains their confidence. A short stay is prepared for with the same care as a permanent move. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We are pleased with that, although we treat it as a standard to keep meeting rather than something finished, and we keep asking residents and their relatives what we could do better. If you would like to visit and see the place for yourself, please get in touch.

The Limes is a residential care home in Basingstoke, and we support adults with learning disabilities and autistic people, including younger adults working towards a more independent life. Respite stays are available as well, planned or at shorter notice. We run a household, not a unit. People here have their own rooms and their own belongings, and a real say in how the day goes. The staff team is kept deliberately consistent, because support from people who know you well is a wholly different thing from support from whoever happens to be on shift. Changes are explained in advance, the shape of the week stays predictable, and we take sensory comfort seriously, since noise, light and busyness often decide whether a day goes smoothly. Support covers personal care, medication, meals, money and the practical business of running a home, and throughout we try to do things alongside people rather than for them. A skill used is a skill kept, and we are patient about that even when it takes longer. We are just as interested in what happens beyond the house. College, work or voluntary work, hobbies, friendships and family visits all matter, and helping people keep hold of them is part of the job rather than an extra. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families and professionals are welcome to visit and ask us whatever they need to know.

Stokewood is a residential care home in Fareham, Hampshire, supporting adults living with mental health conditions. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. We are a house rather than a unit, and that distinction matters to us. Stability usually grows out of ordinary daily life rather than out of being closely managed, so people here have their own room, their own routine and a real voice in how the house is run. Our job is to be reliable and to know people well. That means staff who notice when something is shifting before it becomes a crisis, support with medication and appointments that is dependable without being overbearing, and practical help with cooking, budgeting and giving a week some structure so that independence is something a person can actually use. Some of the people we support are working towards a place of their own and we plan for that in detail rather than leaving it as a distant idea. Others need somewhere settled for longer, which is an equally good outcome. We work closely with community mental health teams, general practitioners and social workers and we are straightforward in those conversations. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

110 West Street Care Home is a residential care home in Havant supporting adults, including adults with learning disabilities and autism. We also offer planned respite stays. We are a small home, and the people here are adults with their own lives rather than a group to be managed together. Everybody has their own room, their own routine and a real say in how the house runs. Our staff help with personal care, medicines, meals, money and the ordinary business of keeping a household going, and we deliberately stand back where somebody can manage alone, because it is easy to erode independence simply by being helpful. For adults with learning disabilities and autism, the particulars matter enormously. How a person communicates, what makes a room or a routine tolerable, how much notice they need before anything changes, and which parts of the day they would rather handle themselves are all things we learn from the person rather than from assumptions about a diagnosis. When change is unavoidable, we prepare for it properly and at their pace. Life here is not meant to stop at the front door. We support people to keep up with family and friends and to get to the groups, activities, work or college that matter to them. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit, and talk to the people who already live here.

Elliott House is a residential care home in Fleet, Hampshire, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. This is a home rather than a placement, and the household is built around the people who live in it. Support is individual and practical. It can include help with personal care, medication, cooking, laundry, managing money and getting to appointments, and it takes in the parts of life that are too easily treated as optional: friendships, going out, keeping up an interest, having plans of your own. We communicate in the way that suits each person, and we give people the time to do things themselves rather than stepping in for the sake of speed. Where somebody wants more independence, support is planned to draw back as their confidence grows. Most of the people we support are younger adults. Respite stays are available too, which can give a family carer a real break and let somebody see how the house feels before anything permanent is discussed. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. • Care Home

Otterbourne House is a residential care home near Winchester in Hampshire, supporting adults, including younger adults, who have a learning disability or autism. We offer respite stays as well as permanent places. What we are aiming for is an ordinary life with the right support behind it. People here have their own rooms and their own belongings, they decide how their week is spent, and they are supported to do things for themselves rather than having things done to them. Cooking and shopping, managing money, travelling about, keeping a job or a college course going and staying in touch with family all matter far more than anything written on a form. Our team takes time to understand how each person communicates. For some that is speech, for others it is signs, symbols, a communication aid or a personal set of gestures, and it is our responsibility to learn it and to record it so that everybody responds in the same way. When somebody is finding life difficult we look for the cause rather than the label, and we plan ahead with them, in calm moments, about what actually helps. We work with families, social workers, GPs and community teams and we keep everyone informed. Respite guests are planned for properly, with a visit beforehand and a conversation about what matters to the person. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Please come and see the house and ask us anything you like.

    • Care Home

Beech Court is a residential care home in Southampton, supporting adults who need help with daily living in an ordinary house rather than an institutional setting. Much of our work is with adults who have a learning disability or who are autistic, and with younger adults. We begin by getting to know the person properly. That means learning how they communicate, what a good day looks like for them, what they find difficult and what they would like to be able to do for themselves. Support plans are written with the person, and with family or an advocate where that is wanted, and they change as people change. Independence is the point. If somebody can do something themselves, or could learn to with patient backing, our job is to make that possible rather than to step in and take over. That might be cooking, managing money, using local transport or getting out into Southampton for something they genuinely enjoy. We also offer respite stays, which give family carers a planned break while their relative stays somewhere welcoming and properly staffed. People who come for a short stay are part of the household rather than guests. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are looking at options for yourself or someone you care about, you would be welcome to visit Beech Court, meet the team and see how the house feels.

    • Care Home

Beach Crest is a residential home in New Milton for older people who need help with daily living. We support people living with dementia and people with mental health needs, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Our aim is an ordinary life with the help that makes it possible. People keep their own hours and their own belongings, choose where and with whom to spend the day, and are helped with washing, dressing and moving about as privately and unhurriedly as we can arrange. Meals are cooked here with real choice at each one, and the kitchen will usually make something particular if somebody fancies it. With dementia, knowing a person well is what makes the difference. We gather somebody's history with their family when they arrive and keep adding to it, so that staff respond to the person rather than to a set of behaviours, and we keep the rhythm of the day predictable because that does more good than any amount of organised activity. Where somebody is managing a mental health condition we try to be steady and clear rather than unpredictable. We watch health carefully without turning the house into a clinic, involve the surgery and community teams early, and tell families what is happening instead of waiting to be asked. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated the home good overall, and visitors are welcome at any reasonable time.

Cheybassa Lodge Rest Home is on Hayling Island in Hampshire. We provide a permanent home to older people and to some younger adults, and we also offer respite stays for those who need care for a short spell or whose family carer needs a break. The people who live with us need a range of help. Many need support with washing and dressing, moving about safely, medication and meals. A good number are living with dementia, and for them we keep the day familiar, keep the same staff around and work at their pace rather than ours. We also support people with physical disabilities, where equipment, seating and access decide how much somebody can do for themselves, and people living with sight or hearing loss, where announcing ourselves clearly and giving information in a usable form makes a real difference. Being on the island suits a good many of our residents. It is quiet, the sea is close, and there is somewhere pleasant to sit with a visitor. Food is cooked on the premises and people are asked what they would like rather than told what there is, there is somewhere sociable to sit and somewhere quiet, and visitors do not need an appointment. We would rather you formed your own view of us than took ours. Please arrange to come and see the home, talk to whoever is on duty, and ask us whatever you need to know.

    • Care Home

Glebelands is a small residential home in Basingstoke. We support adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, and we offer respite stays. Being small is the point rather than a limitation. This is a house and it feels like one. People have their own space and their own belongings, and the household is run with the people who live in it rather than around them. Meals, shopping, laundry and how the place looks are all decisions people take part in, because independence grows out of doing things rather than being told about them. We plan support around what each person wants from their life rather than around a timetable that suits the rota. That might be help with cooking and managing money, support to keep a college place or a job, assistance to travel independently, or somebody alongside on a difficult day. For autistic people we pay close attention to sensory needs and flag changes well in advance, because unexpected change is usually the hardest part. Communication takes different forms here and we learn each person's, whether speech, signing, pictures, objects or the particular way somebody shows they have had enough. Our staff are trained in positive behaviour support and we keep the team consistent so that people are supported by those who know them well. Respite guests are welcome to visit beforehand so the house is familiar when they arrive. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to look round.

We are Abbotswood Court, a residential care home in Romsey, Hampshire. We look after older people, including those living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we also support younger adults. Respite stays are available. We aim for something domestic rather than institutional. People bring their own furniture and pictures, keep their own habits, and decide for themselves how their day runs. What time you wake, where you eat, whether you want company or would rather sit quietly: those are your decisions and they stay that way. A great deal of what makes a day here good is quite unremarkable, and we would rather describe it plainly than make grand claims. For people living with dementia we work with the person as they are now. Knowing their history, recognising early what tends to unsettle them and having the patience to go at their pace prevents a lot of distress before it begins. Where access or communication need proper attention, they get it, so those needs do not come to dominate the day. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable hour. Please ring us to arrange a visit.

Wellington Vale Care Home in Waterlooville, Hampshire, provides residential and nursing care together on one site. That combination matters: it means somebody can move in while they need help with everyday things and stay with us if their health needs increase, instead of facing another upheaval when they are least able to cope with it. We care for older people, including many who are living with dementia, and we support people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and some younger adults. Respite stays are available as well. Our residential care covers help with washing and dressing, moving safely, medication and meals, with staff nearby through the night. Our nursing care adds qualified clinical oversight, so medication, skin integrity, nutrition and hydration, pain and safe moving and handling all get close attention, and we act early when somebody's condition changes. We work closely with the GP practice and the community health teams supporting us. Beyond the clinical side, this is where people live. Residents keep their own rooms and their own things, choose when to get up and what to eat, and have company or quiet as they prefer. Families are welcome at any reasonable hour. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and look around properly.

Caroline House is a residential care home in Horndean, Hampshire. We support adults with learning disabilities and autism, and adults with physical disabilities, including younger adults who are building the life they want rather than settling into retirement. That difference shapes everything about how we run the house. We think of this as somebody's home first and a care setting second. People choose how their room looks, what time they get up, what goes on the shopping list and what they do with the day. Our job is to make those choices possible, whether that means support with personal care, help to keep in touch with family, backing someone to hold down a college place or a job, or working out the practicalities of getting to a club on the other side of town. Autism support here starts with the person and not the label. Some people need quiet and a predictable shape to the week. Others want plenty going on. We ask, we watch, and we adjust, and we write down what works so that a new member of staff does not have to learn it all over again. We also offer respite stays, which give families a planned break and give the person staying a change of scene and some new company. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Visitors are welcome, and we would rather you came and saw the place for yourself than took our word for it.

Ranvilles provides both residential and nursing care in Fareham, Hampshire. We support older people, including many living with dementia and people managing mental health conditions, and respite stays are part of what we do. Offering residential and nursing care under one roof means somebody whose health needs grow does not have to move again. That is the main practical reason families choose a place like this, and it is worth saying plainly rather than dressing up. Where mental ill health and physical health needs come together, the combination is often handled badly. Physical symptoms get attributed to a psychiatric diagnosis rather than investigated, and having nursing knowledge here means somebody is looking for the physical cause instead of assuming. For residents living with dementia we keep the routine steady and ask relatives early for the history that makes a person's remarks comprehensible rather than confusing. The clinical side is only part of a day here and usually the smaller part. The rest is ordinary life: food people want to eat, help that comes without a wait, privacy, and being spoken to as somebody with a working life and a family. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Ask a relative what happened the last time they raised something with us, because that answer tells you more than a rating.

Myrtle Cottage is a small residential care home in Emsworth, Hampshire. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, and we offer respite stays for people who need a short break or whose family carer needs one. This is a house rather than an institution and we run it accordingly. There are few of us, which means the people supporting you know you properly. Everyone has their own room and their own belongings, and a say in how the place is run, from the shopping list to what happens at the weekend. Support is planned with each person, in a form they can use, covering how they like to be helped, what they enjoy, what they find difficult and what they want to be doing with their time. People get out into Emsworth and along the harbour, keep up clubs, work or college where that is what they want, and see their families. Supporting that is the point of the place. Where somebody does not use speech, we learn how they do communicate and make sure everyone supporting them knows. When someone becomes distressed we look for the cause rather than the fastest way to stop it, and any restriction on freedom is agreed properly, recorded and reviewed. The Care Quality Commission rated us good overall at our most recent inspection. Families, advocates and professionals are welcome to visit.

Farmhouse is a residential care home in Southampton. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for families needing a planned break. We try to run this as a household. That means the kitchen matters, the garden matters, and the afternoon is allowed to be unstructured. Residents get up when they wake rather than when a rota says so, eat when they are hungry, and spend the day as they would like to. Some want company and something going on. Others want their own chair, their own window and a bit of quiet, and we treat that as an equally good way to spend a Tuesday. Dementia care here rests on knowing people. We ask families for the history, the working life, the names, the music, the things that will still land when a good deal else has gone. It is the difference between managing somebody and actually keeping them company. Respite guests are properly looked after rather than parked. We find out beforehand how the person likes things done, because a short stay does not give us time to learn it slowly. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and we hold onto it by paying attention to small things every day rather than to grand statements.

Moorland House is a residential care home in New Milton, Hampshire. We provide a home for older people, including those living with dementia and people managing mental health conditions, and we also offer respite stays, whether that is to give a family carer a break or to help somebody find their feet again after a spell in hospital. We would rather be judged on ordinary things than on anything grand. Knowing how everybody likes their tea. Remembering which chair belongs to whom. Understanding who wants company from breakfast onwards and who would much rather be left with a newspaper. Helping somebody up when they wake rather than when it suits the rota. We ask about these preferences, write them down and expect them to be followed, because that is most of what makes a place feel like home rather than an institution. Dementia support is a large part of our work. Steady routines, familiar faces and patience do more good than anything else, along with a genuine effort to understand what somebody is telling us when words have become difficult. Families are welcome whenever it suits them and we keep in touch openly rather than only ringing when there is a problem. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. It reflects reliable everyday practice, which is what most families are actually looking for. If you are considering a care home in this part of Hampshire for someone close to you, please come and look round, meet our residents and staff and ask us anything you like.

    • Care Home

Linnet House is a residential care home in Basingstoke, Hampshire, supporting adults who have a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays for people who need support for a shorter period. The people who live here call it home, and our job is to help each of them live the life they choose within it, with as much independence as they want and as much support as they need. We help with personal care where it is wanted, with cooking, laundry and shopping, with medication and appointments, and with managing money and correspondence. We also support people to get out into Basingstoke, to keep up the activities they enjoy and to stay close to family and friends. Communication and routine sit at the centre of the work. Learning how a person asks for help, how they show that they are unhappy and what settles them when a day goes badly matters more than any written policy, so we take time over it and write plans in a form the person can actually use. Changes are explained in advance wherever we can manage it, and where someone wants more independence we work towards it at their pace. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here whether this genuinely feels like their own home.

    • Care Home

Oak Tree Lodge is a residential care home in Southampton, Hampshire. We support older people who need help with the ordinary business of the day, and a good number of the people living with us have dementia. Some have come to us with a mental health condition they have managed for many years, and we are used to that too. Supporting someone with dementia well is mostly a matter of attention. It means knowing that one resident settles if the kitchen radio is on and another finds it unbearable, that late afternoon is harder than the morning for most people, and that a question asked for the fifth time is still worth answering properly. We keep the layout of the home easy to read, we keep familiar objects where people expect to find them, and we do not rush anybody through a meal or a wash. Families are part of this rather than visitors to it. You know what your mother did for a living, which hymn she sang, whether she took sugar. All of that is useful to us, and we ask for it. We offer respite stays as well as permanent places, so if you are caring for someone at home and need a fortnight to recover, come and talk to us. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. The most honest thing we can offer beyond that rating is an invitation to arrive unannounced and see the home on an ordinary day.

    • Care Home

Hill Brow is a residential care home in Farnham, Hampshire, providing a home for older people who need support with daily living. We care for residents living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period. The Care Quality Commission most recently rated us outstanding overall. We are proud of that, and we treat it as a snapshot rather than a guarantee, so we carry on looking for the small improvements that make daily life better. What sits behind it is not complicated. Residents decide when they get up, how they spend their days and what they eat. Meals are cooked on the premises and preferences are remembered, down to how somebody takes their tea. There is company and activity for those who enjoy it and no pressure at all on anyone who would rather have peace. Our dementia care rests on knowing people. We ask families to tell us about a person's life, their work, their music and their habits, because that knowledge is what allows staff to offer comfort that genuinely comforts. Familiar faces, calm surroundings and an unhurried pace do most of the work. We work closely with local GPs and community nurses, and relatives are welcome whenever it suits them. Please come and see the home for yourself.

    • Care Home

We are a residential care home on London Road in Waterlooville, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. We also offer respite stays. Our starting point is that this is where people live, not where they have been placed. People arrange their own rooms, have a real say in the food and the shopping, and are involved in how the household runs. Where somebody can do a thing themselves, our job is to make that possible rather than to do it faster on their behalf, even when the quicker route is tempting. Where somebody wants a job, a course, a club or simply a regular place to go, we treat that as the purpose of our support rather than an extra. It is usually the thing that makes the rest of the week worth organising. Predictability is something we take seriously. For many of the people living here, knowing what is happening and who will be on shift is what separates a settled day from a hard one, so we plan ahead and explain changes early rather than rearranging casually. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here, and those who know them best, what would make this a better place to live, and we act on what we are told.

Otterbourne Care is a residential care home near Winchester supporting adults living with mental ill health, including younger adults. We offer respite stays as well as longer term places. Many of the people who come to us have had an unsettled time beforehand, sometimes in hospital, sometimes in placements that did not work out. We do not expect anyone to settle quickly, and a slow start is not treated here as a failure. Trust takes however long it takes. What we offer first is stability. A calm house, staff who are present and who know you, and a day that belongs to the person rather than to the rota. Residents choose how they spend their time. We will encourage someone who has withdrawn to come and join in, and we will equally leave a person in peace when that is what helps. Practical support matters as much as anything else. Medication, appointments, benefits and paperwork, cooking, laundry and looking after a room. Alongside that we work on the skills and confidence that make a more independent life possible, and we take people's own goals seriously rather than deciding for them what progress ought to look like. For younger adults in particular this is often a stage rather than a destination. We work closely with community mental health teams and raise concerns early when somebody seems to be struggling. If you are looking for a placement near Winchester, please contact us and we will be honest about whether we can meet someone's needs.

    • Care Home

East Hill House is a residential care home in Liss in Hampshire. We support older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, and we welcome respite guests as well as people moving in permanently. We are not a large home and we have no wish to be. Being smaller means people are known properly rather than in outline, that our staff notice when somebody is not themselves, and that the day can be arranged around the people living here rather than the other way about. Getting up when you like, eating what you want, having your own furniture and pictures around you and seeing visitors whenever they call are ordinary parts of life, and we treat them as such. Our staff help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and moving about, without making a performance of it. For people living with dementia we keep things familiar and unhurried, and we ask families to tell us about a person's life in detail, because knowing somebody's history is nearly always what allows us to reassure them rather than correct them. Respite stays matter here too. Caring for a relative at home is demanding work and a planned break is often what makes it possible to keep going. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Please come and look round and speak to our staff and to families of people who live here.

Deja Vu is a residential care home in Lindford in Hampshire, supporting adults, including younger adults, who have a learning disability or autism. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. We think of the people here as living in their own home rather than being placed in a service, and we try to make that real rather than a form of words. People arrange their own rooms, keep their own routines and have a genuine say in how the house is run. Support is offered for the parts of life that are hard and withdrawn from the parts that are not, because independence grows when it is given room. Day to day that might mean cooking and shopping together, sorting out money, learning a route into town, keeping a job or a course going, or having the right help with appointments and letters. Where somebody communicates without speech we take time to learn how they do communicate and we write it down so that all our staff respond in the same way rather than guessing. When life becomes difficult we look for the reason instead of the label, and we agree in advance, in calm moments, what actually helps. We work with families, social workers and health colleagues and we keep them properly informed. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. • Care Home

We are Hunters Lodge, a residential care home in Fareham. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people managing a mental health condition. What we provide is residential care rather than nursing care, and we say so plainly to families at the outset so that nobody moves somewhere unable to meet their needs. Within it, we help with washing, dressing and moving about safely, support people with medication, provide proper meals and make sure nobody spends their days alone unless that is their preference. The home runs at the pace of its residents. Nobody is woken to suit a rota, mealtimes bend around the person, and how the day is spent is a matter for the individual. For people living with dementia, we work patiently and with their history in view. Familiar faces, an unhurried pace and a routine that makes sense to the person do more good than any activity programme. Where somebody is managing a mental health condition, we work steadily and keep in contact with community teams and GPs so that support joins up. Our staff know residents well enough to notice when somebody is quieter or eating less than usual, and we ring families early rather than waiting. Visitors are welcome whenever they want to come. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent CQC overall rating is good. Please get in touch to look round.

    • Care Home

Cornview is a residential care home in Basingstoke, Hampshire, for adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We are a house rather than an institution, and being small is the point. Staff get to know the people they support properly, and the household runs around the people living in it instead of around a rota. People have their own rooms and their own belongings, a real say in what gets cooked and what happens at the weekend, and they decide who comes to visit. Support is agreed with each person and built around them. Some need help with personal care and health needs. Others mainly want somebody alongside them so that a demanding world becomes manageable, and support to do things for themselves rather than have them done. We expect people to take on more over time rather than settle into being looked after. For autistic residents especially, predictability does most of the work. Routines that hold, clear information, honest notice before anything changes and genuine choice prevent far more distress than any reaction after the event. Where somebody is having a hard time, we look first at what is being asked of them rather than treating the person as the difficulty. Basingstoke is on the doorstep and getting out into it is part of the ordinary week. Respite stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We also offer respite stays for people who need somewhere for a shorter period. We run this as a home where people live their own lives. People choose how their rooms look, take part in shopping, cooking and keeping the place going as much as they want to and are able to, and get out to the things they actually enjoy in and around Basingstoke. Where somebody wants to work, volunteer or study, that becomes part of the support plan rather than an afterthought. What makes the difference here is detail and consistency. Knowing what a noisy room, a crowded shop or an unannounced change does to a particular person. Giving proper warning before anything changes. Communicating in the way that genuinely reaches somebody, whether that is speech, symbols, writing or simply patience and time. We keep the staff team as steady as we can and train people to recognise the early signs of distress and prevent it rather than respond to it. We work closely with families, social workers and health colleagues, and we welcome being challenged when we have read a situation wrongly. The Rivers is a residential home in Farnborough supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, most of them younger adults building lives of their own. We keep the house small and calm on purpose. Everybody has their own room to retreat to, and the shared parts of the house belong to the people who live here rather than to the staff. Routines are planned around the individual, including the ones that need to stay exactly the same, because predictability is often what makes everything else possible. We start from what a person already does well and work outwards. That might mean cooking together until somebody is confident alone, sorting out travel so they can get to college or a job, or making sure the house runs in a way that suits how they take in information. Support is agreed with each person using the way of communicating they already trust, and we learn it properly rather than guessing. Getting out is part of ordinary life here, whether that means an activity during the week, work, seeing family or a trip that has become a fixture. Respite stays are available as well, giving families a break while their relative stays somewhere familiar with staff who know them. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. • Care Home

We are a residential home in Southampton supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic people, including younger adults. The house runs as a household rather than an institution. Everyone has their own room and their own things, and the week is worked out between the people who live here and the staff supporting them: what is cooked, when the shopping is done, who wants to go out and where to. Those are small matters that add up to whether somebody feels at home or merely accommodated. Support is built around what each person wants to be able to do. For some that means a job, a college course or a regular volunteering day. For others it is getting out into the city, keeping up with family, managing money with a hand from staff, or learning to cook something new. We take the long view, since progress in this work is usually gradual and the gains that matter are often ones nobody outside the house would notice. Consistency counts for a great deal, particularly for autistic people, so we keep staffing as settled as we can and explain changes in advance rather than springing them on people. Respite stays are available alongside longer places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are looking for a place, please come and visit and meet the people who live here.

For people with sight or hearing loss it also means keeping the layout of the house predictable and introducing ourselves properly every time rather than assuming recognition. Leighside is a residential care home in Southampton supporting adults living with learning disabilities and autism, including younger adults moving into adult services for the first time. That transition is a big one, and it is often harder on families than on anybody else. We try to make it a beginning rather than a loss. The people who live here are adults and we support them to run their lives as adults do, with choices about their day, their room, their money and their company, and with help where help is genuinely needed. We support people to build on what they can already do, whether that is cooking, shopping, travelling around Southampton independently, keeping up with college or work, or managing their own appointments. Communication is planned around each individual, since being properly understood is what makes choice real rather than theoretical, and we take change at a pace people can actually manage. Respite stays are available for short periods of support or to give a family carer a planned break. Summerwood is a residential home in New Milton, Hampshire, for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, including younger adults. We offer planned respite stays as well as longer placements. We think of this as a house that people live in rather than a service they receive. Everyone here has their own routines, their own interests and their own opinions about how things should be done, and a good deal of our work is simply making sure those count for something. People are involved in choosing meals, planning the week and deciding how their own rooms look and feel. Support is built around each person rather than around the building. Some of the people who live here want a full and busy week out in the local area, with college, work, clubs and time with family. Others prefer a quieter and more predictable rhythm, and that is an equally good way to live. For autistic people in particular we pay close attention to environment, noise, routine and giving warning of change, because those details make the difference between a day that works and one that does not. Respite stays are planned with the same care as any other placement, giving families a proper break while their relative spends time somewhere calm and well staffed. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. You are very welcome to come and look round Summerwood before making any decision.

We are Hollybank Rest Home in Southampton. We are a residential care home for older people, including people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities, and we also welcome people for respite stays. We are not a large place and we do not want to be. A smaller home means staff who know everybody properly, meals cooked for people whose tastes are actually known, and a quieter atmosphere in which somebody who is confused or unwell is not overwhelmed. People here get up when they wake, spend the day as they choose, and are helped rather than managed. Dementia care is a good deal of what we do, and our approach rests on familiarity and patience. Calm surroundings, consistent staff and knowing enough about a person's history to make sense of what they are trying to tell us make far more difference than any activity timetable. Families are welcome throughout the day and we would rather they treated the home as an extension of their own. We ask for views regularly, from residents and relatives, and we would always prefer to hear a concern early. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep checking our own practice against it. If you are looking at care in Southampton for yourself or a relative, please come and see us. Visit unannounced if you would rather see the home as it usually is.

    • Care Home

Dryad Spinney is a residential care home in Southampton for adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. Most of the people who live here are younger adults. We are a house rather than an institution, and being small is the point. Staff get to know the people they support properly, which is worth more than any written plan, and the household runs around the people living in it instead of around a rota. People have their own rooms and their own belongings, a real say in what gets cooked and what happens at the weekend, and they decide who comes to visit. A home for younger adults has to be about building a life rather than winding one down. So we talk about work and college, money, cooking, travel, relationships and independence, and we expect people to take on more over time rather than less. For autistic residents especially, predictability does most of the work. Routines that hold, clear information, honest notice before anything changes and genuine choice prevent far more distress than any reaction after the event. Where somebody is having a hard time, we look first at what is being asked of them. Respite stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. • Care Home

Forty4 is a residential care home in New Milton, Hampshire. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Having a mixed group under one roof is something we plan for rather than something that simply happens. A younger adult working towards more independence and an older resident who mainly wants a settled, unhurried day want very different things from a week, and support here is built around the individual rather than around a single house routine. What we provide is residential care. Staff are on duty through the night as well as the day to help with personal care, dressing, medication and meals, while doctors and district nurses come in for clinical needs. For autistic residents and people with a learning disability we pay particular attention to predictability. Routines that hold, clear information, honest notice before anything changes and real choice head off far more difficulty than any response after the event. Sight and hearing loss get the same practical attention, beginning with how we communicate. Respite stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. • Care Home

We are a residential care home in Gosport, providing a home for older people who need support with everyday life, including people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. We also offer respite stays, either arranged in advance so a family carer can have a break or at shorter notice when somebody needs care for a period. We try to run this as a home rather than a unit. People keep their own routines and belongings, families are welcome rather than scheduled, and where somebody can still do something for themselves we leave them to it. Help with washing, dressing, medication and getting about is there when it is wanted, given in a way that does not chip away at a person's dignity. We want to be open about the regulator rather than leave you to find out later. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. There is work going on in response to what was raised, and if you are thinking about a place here for somebody in your family you are entitled to ask what that work is and how far it has got. We will answer you honestly. Beyond that, the most useful thing anybody can do is come and look round, talk to the staff and see how the people living here seem. Please get in touch and we will arrange a time that works for you.

    • Care Home

Tegfield House is a residential care home in Winchester, Hampshire. We are home to older people who need support with daily life, including many living with dementia, and to younger adults who need residential care. We also offer respite stays. Moving into a home usually follows a difficult period, so we take the settling in slowly. We ask about the routines somebody has kept for decades, the food they actually like, how they take their tea and whether they would rather be up early or have a lie in, and we build around that rather than expecting people to adapt to us. Rooms hold people's own furniture and photographs, and we knock before we come in. Days here are not heavily timetabled. Company, conversation, music and time in the garden for those who want them, the newspaper and quiet for those who do not. For residents living with dementia, familiarity does most of the work, so we keep our team settled and learn each person's history properly. When somebody is distressed we look for the reason behind it rather than trying to close it down. We work with local GPs and community nurses so health changes are picked up early, and families are kept properly informed. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall. We were glad of it and know it has to be earned again every day. Please come and look round.

Arranging and funding a care home place in Hampshire

Money and eligibility shape almost everything that follows, including which of the 325 care homes listed on this page are realistically within reach. Two separate pieces of assessment work sit behind most placements, and both are worth starting early, because homes with a strong local reputation can hold waiting lists.

Asking for a care needs assessment

Anyone who appears to need care and support can ask their local authority for an assessment, whatever their savings. A social care practitioner looks at daily living, mobility, medication, memory, and the risks a person faces at home, then records the level of support needed. Where residential care is the right answer, the assessment produces a care and support plan that any home can work from. Relatives acting for someone who cannot easily speak for themselves can ask to take part, and an advocate can be arranged where there is nobody else to fill that role.

Where Hampshire County Council fits in

Funded support follows a financial assessment carried out by Hampshire County Council once care needs have been agreed. Capital and income are both taken into account, and the outcome decides whether the council contributes towards fees, whether the person pays in full, or whether a deferred payment arrangement secured against a property would help. Even where someone is clearly funding their own care, the council still owes a duty to provide information and advice, so the process is rarely wasted effort.

Understanding what the fees cover

Weekly fees differ from one Hampshire home to the next and depend on the room, the level of personal care agreed, and whether any nursing input is involved. Ask each home for a written schedule showing what the fee includes and what is billed separately, since hairdressing, chiropody, and outings are often charged on top. Where a family prefers a home costing more than the council will pay, a third party contribution may be required, and that commitment has to stay affordable for the long term.

Choosing between care homes in Hampshire

Reading inspection outcomes properly

Ratings across this collection run from Outstanding through Good and Requires Improvement, alongside homes registered too recently to carry a judgement yet. Jasmine House, Sansa House, and The Conifers are among those holding Outstanding, while a Good rating still means the home met the standards the Care Quality Commission expects. Check the date of the inspection and read the findings on safety and leadership rather than the headline alone, because a judgement made some years ago describes the home as it was then, not necessarily as it is now.

What a visit should tell you

Arrange to visit at a busy point in the day, ideally around a mealtime, and notice whether residents look occupied and whether staff greet them by name. Ask how many carers are on duty overnight, how the home responds to a fall or a sudden illness, and how quickly families hear about it. Questions about staff turnover deserve a direct answer, because continuity of carers shapes daily life far more than furnishings do.

Matching the home to the person

Some homes in Hampshire are large purpose built settings for older people, while others are ordinary houses supporting a handful of adults with learning disabilities or autism. Think about the routine that would suit the person moving in, the distance relatives can travel comfortably and often, and whether the home could go on meeting needs as they change.

Frequently asked questions about care homes in Hampshire

How do we arrange a care needs assessment in Hampshire?

Contact adult social care at Hampshire County Council and ask for a care needs assessment for the person concerned. The assessment can take place at home or on a hospital ward, and there is no charge for it whatever the household savings. A practitioner will look at daily tasks, mobility, health conditions, and the support already in place, then set out what is needed. If residential care is recommended, the resulting plan gives every home you approach a clear description of the support required.

Can Hampshire County Council pay for a care home placement?

It can, where the care needs assessment shows residential care is required and the financial assessment shows the person cannot meet the full cost themselves. Capital and income are both considered, and any contribution is worked out individually rather than by a fixed rule. Where the council agrees to fund a place, it normally pays up to a level it considers sufficient to meet assessed needs, and a top up may be needed for a more expensive home. Deferred payment agreements are also possible in some circumstances where a property is involved.

Which providers offer residential care in Hampshire?

This page gathers three hundred and sixteen registered care homes across Hampshire, all of them residential settings inspected by the Care Quality Commission. They run from large homes for older people to small houses supporting adults with learning disabilities or autism. Each entry links to a profile showing the provider details and the current rating. Narrowing by location first, then by rating, is usually the quickest way to build a shortlist worth visiting.

What is the difference between a residential care home and a nursing home?

A residential care home provides personal care, meaning help with washing, dressing, medication, meals, and the shape of the day. A nursing home offers that same support with qualified nurses on site, which matters where there are complex medical needs such as wounds, feeding tubes, or unstable conditions. The homes collected on this page are registered for residential care. If a setting with nursing cover is needed, the care needs assessment should say so, and it saves time to establish that before booking visits.

How far ahead should we start looking at care homes in Hampshire?

Beginning a few months ahead is ideal, since it leaves room for an assessment, unhurried visits, and a considered choice. In practice families often start after a hospital admission or a sudden decline, when the timescale is days rather than weeks. Even then it is reasonable to ask about a short term placement while you look properly, rather than accepting the first vacancy offered. Registering interest early with homes you like costs nothing and puts you on the waiting list.

What should we ask when visiting a care home in Hampshire?

Ask how staffing levels change overnight and at weekends, and how long the current team has worked there. Ask what happens when a resident becomes unwell, which GP practice covers the home, and how quickly relatives are contacted. Ask to see the activities that actually ran over the past fortnight rather than a sample timetable, and how residents influence what is on offer. Finally, ask what the fee includes and what is charged separately, and ask for that answer in writing.
