Care Homes in Hampshire 325 care homes · 259 rated Good by CQC

Families weighing up care homes in Hampshire will find three hundred and sixteen registered providers gathered on this page, each of them a residential care home. Inspection outcomes across the collection differ: some homes hold an Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission, others are rated Good, some are marked Requires Improvement, and a few have registered too recently to have been rated at all. Hampshire County Council is the authority responsible for carrying out a care needs assessment, which establishes what level of daily support a person actually requires, and it also completes the separate financial assessment that decides whether any part of the fees will be met from public funds. Asking for both before a placement is agreed is worth doing, whatever the likely outcome on funding. Every home listed here has its own profile, so the sensible next step is to open the ones that suit your location and budget, read the inspection report sitting behind the rating rather than the rating alone, and let what you find there shape the questions you put to the manager when you visit.

    • Care Home

Red Roof is a residential care home in Tadley, Hampshire. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Having a mix of ages and needs under one roof only works if the support is genuinely built around each person, so that is how we plan it. Somebody who wants a quiet, ordered life with few surprises gets that. Somebody who wants to be out at college, at work or with friends gets support that makes it possible rather than support that gets in the way. We think a care home should feel like a house people live in. Rooms belong to the person who sleeps in them. Meals are something to look forward to and to have an opinion about. The kitchen is not out of bounds where somebody wants to make their own toast. Where a person can do something themselves, we would rather they did, even when it takes longer. Respite stays are available too, giving a family carer a planned break or letting somebody try a stay away from home with proper support around them. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you would like to visit and see how the home works on an ordinary day, please get in touch and we will arrange it.

    • Care Home

Woodlands House is a residential care home in Southampton. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support some younger adults. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. We aim for an ordinary, comfortable household. Residents get up when they wake, eat what they actually enjoy and spend their days as they choose. Some are sociable and are downstairs from breakfast onwards. Others would rather have their own room, their own television and a quiet word with somebody who is not in a hurry. Both are perfectly reasonable and neither needs explaining. People usually arrive having struggled at home for a while, and the first few weeks are about settling rather than fitting in. We learn routines rather than imposing them, and we encourage people to bring their own furniture and pictures so a room becomes theirs quickly. Dementia care here rests on familiar staff, a steady rhythm and knowing something of a person's earlier life. Families often supply the detail that explains everything, and we ask for it early. Where somebody is distressed, we look for the cause. Having younger adults living here as well means we are careful not to let anyone's day drift into a pattern built around much older residents. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit Woodlands House.

Brackenlea is a residential care home in Winchester supporting older people, including those living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are putting that at the top rather than the bottom, because a family looking at homes for a relative deserves to hear it from us rather than find it somewhere else. We know which areas were identified, work is under way on them, and we will talk anybody through what has actually changed. The daily work here is what residents judge us on. Getting somebody up in the way they prefer. Meals worth sitting down to. Company when it is wanted and quiet when it is not. Noticing early when a person is not themselves. For people living with dementia, keeping faces and routines steady and following their pace rather than ours. Where somebody lives with a mental health condition, working alongside community teams so that a hard stretch is met with patience. Respite stays give a family carer a planned break with support properly in place. Please come and visit on a normal day, speak to residents and relatives, and judge the home for yourself.

We are pleased to be rated Good by the Care Quality Commission across every domain, including Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. • Care Home

Netley Court is a residential care home near Southampton for older people who need help with daily living. We support people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss, and we offer respite stays. A good deal of our work lies in details that are easy to overlook. A room arranged so that somebody can manage it independently. Lighting, contrast and clear signs that make sense to a person with poor vision or with dementia. A hearing aid that has been checked and is actually working, because a conversation somebody cannot follow is worse than no conversation at all. Equipment within reach, so that moving about does not mean waiting for help. Beyond that we try to keep life ordinary. People choose their own routines, keep their own things around them, eat food cooked here with real choice at each meal, and have company or quiet as they prefer. Help with washing, dressing and mobility is given at the person's own pace and recorded carefully so it happens the same way whoever is on duty. With dementia we rely on knowing somebody well, so we gather a person's history with their family and keep adding to it, and we keep the shape of the day predictable. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated the home good overall, and visitors are welcome at any reasonable time.

At Stokelodge, we offer residential care in the heart of Basingstoke, Hampshire, and we are proud to support the people who live with us every day. Our home specialises in care for adults with learning disabilities and autism, and we also provide respite care for those who need a shorter stay, whether that is to give family carers a break or to help someone through a period of change. We understand that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we do not take that responsibility lightly. Life here is built around the individual. We take time to get to know each person, what matters to them, how they like to spend their days, and what support looks out right for them. That understanding shapes everything we do, from how we plan day to day routines to how we communicate with families and loved ones. Our team works hard to create an environment that feels genuinely like home. We want the people who live here to feel safe, comfortable and valued, and we want their families to feel reassured and involved. We keep communication open and honest, and we welcome visits and questions at any time. We are pleased that our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission resulted in an overall rating of good, which we feel reflects the effort and commitment our whole team brings to their work each day. That said, we are always looking at how we can improve and grow, because the people in our care deserve nothing less than the best we can offer. If you would like to find out more about Stokelodge or come for a visit, we would love to hear from you. We are always happy to chat and help you decide whether our home could be the right fit.

We are 97 Old Street, a residential care home in Fareham, Hampshire, supporting adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with a physical disability and younger adults. This is somebody's home before it is anything else, and we keep asking ourselves whether the day belongs to the people who live here or to our own convenience. Support is built around the individual. We take time to learn how a person communicates, what a good day looks like for them, what unsettles them and what they are working towards. Some people want a busy week with activities, college, work, volunteering or time out in the town, while others need a quiet and predictable rhythm protected. Both are equally valid, and we adjust to the person rather than asking the person to fit a routine that suits us. Help with personal care and mobility is given at the individual's pace and as discreetly as possible, leaving as much choice and control with them as we can. Everyone keeps their own room and their own belongings, and family and friends are welcome whenever they wish to come. We also provide respite stays, which give family carers a planned break and give the person staying a genuine visit rather than a hurried placement, so we prepare for them carefully. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us good overall. If you are considering us, please come and see the house on an ordinary day and ask us anything you want to know.

Portchester Lodge is a residential care home in Gosport, Hampshire, supporting adults living with a mental health condition. Many of the people who live here are younger adults, and we also offer respite care for planned short stays. This is somewhere people live rather than somewhere they are treated. Residents have their own room and their own things, decide how they want to spend the day, and are supported to do more for themselves as and when they feel able. Recovery does not run to a timetable, and we would far rather move at somebody's pace than push them along to suit ours. What that looks like in practice varies a great deal. For one person it is a settled routine, regular meals and a quiet house. For another it is support with medication and appointments, help with money and shopping, and encouragement to get back into work, study or seeing people again. We agree the plan with the resident, write it plainly and revisit it honestly rather than leaving it to drift. The atmosphere here matters as much as the plan. Our team is consistent, unhurried and straightforward with people, and difficult days are met calmly rather than treated as a crisis. We work closely with community mental health teams, GPs and social workers, and we keep families involved as far as the resident wants them to be. If you are looking into a placement or a short stay in the Gosport area, please contact us and we will talk it through with you openly.

Alongside this, we welcome younger adults and offer tailored support for those living with a learning disability or autism, physical disability, or visual and hearing impairment. In practice, this means our team takes the time to understand each person as an individual, building care plans that honour personal preferences, life histories, and aspirations. Whether a resident enjoys quiet companionship, structured activity, or simply the reassurance of attentive support nearby, we aim to make every day feel meaningful. For families, this breadth of specialism brings real peace of mind. It means a loved one with complex sensory needs can be supported alongside someone seeking gentle later life care, all within one consistent and caring environment. We recognise that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we strive to be a steady, communicative partner throughout that journey. Relatives are always welcomed warmly, kept informed, and encouraged to remain closely involved in the life of their loved one at Roman House. In our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission, dated 16 May 2024, Roman House received an overall rating of Requires Improvement. Within this assessment, we were pleased to be rated Good in three important areas: Effective, Caring, and Responsive. These ratings reflect the genuine warmth of our team, the quality of the day to day support we deliver, and our commitment to responding to the changing needs of every resident. The CQC identified that the Safe and Well-led domains require improvement, and we take this feedback seriously. It has given us a clear focus for development, and we are actively working to strengthen these areas so that every aspect of life at Roman House reaches the standard our residents and their families rightly expect. We believe in being open about where we are on our journey, because honesty is the foundation of trust. If you are exploring care options for someone you love, we warmly invite you to learn more about Roman House. Whether you are at the beginning of your search or ready to take the next step, our door is open, and our team is ready to listen. Together, we can talk through your loved one's needs, answer your questions, and help you feel confident about the road ahead. At Roman House in Basingstoke, every resident is valued, every family is supported, and every day is an opportunity to provide care that truly makes a difference.

We at Quayside are proud to offer a welcoming residential care home in the heart of Fareham, Hampshire, providing thoughtful support for adults living with mental health needs, including younger adults seeking a place to feel safe, understood and at home. Our location in Fareham places us within a well connected part of the South East, set within the PO postcode area. The setting has been carefully chosen to feel domestic and calm, offering a homely base from which residents can build routine, confidence and independence at their own pace. Our specialism lies in supporting adults whose lives are shaped by mental health conditions, including younger adults who may be navigating the move into more settled, longer term living. In practice, this means our team takes time to understand each person as an individual, recognising that recovery, wellbeing and stability look different for everyone. We focus on consistency, trust and a steady daily rhythm, working alongside residents to support their emotional health, their personal goals and the everyday skills that contribute to a meaningful life. For families, this translates into the reassurance that their loved one is being supported in a place where mental wellbeing is genuinely understood, not simply managed. Day to day, we encourage residents to take an active role in shaping their own lives, whether that involves contributing to decisions about their care, engaging in community activities, or working towards personal aspirations. We believe that dignity, choice and respect underpin good mental health support, and these values guide our approach at every level. Family involvement is warmly welcomed, because we know that strong relationships and open communication play a vital role in long term wellbeing. Quayside has been rated Good by the Care Quality Commission across every domain assessed at its most recent inspection in August 2019, including Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well led. Achieving Good in each of these areas reflects a balanced standard of care: residents are kept safe, supported by an effective and compassionate team, listened to and responded to as individuals, and looked after within a home that is thoughtfully led. For families weighing up options, this consistent rating offers an independent reassurance that the care provided here meets the standards expected of a quality residential setting. • Care Home

We are a small residential care home at Kennet Way in Basingstoke, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism, and offering respite stays as well as permanent places. Being small is the point. It means the people who live here are not part of a crowd, that the kitchen is a kitchen rather than a catering operation, and that staff have the time to know somebody properly rather than in outline. It also means that the household can be run around the people in it. Mealtimes, outings, quiet time and noise levels are all things we sort out between us. Our team supports people to do as much for themselves as they want to. That might be shopping and cooking together, learning a bus route, keeping up a job or a course, managing money, or having help with the sort of appointments and paperwork that trip most of us up. Where somebody communicates without speech we take the time to learn how they communicate, and we pay attention to what a person shows us as well as what they say. Respite guests are planned for properly. We visit first, we find out what matters to the person, and we try to make a short stay feel like a change of scene rather than an upheaval. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Families and professionals are welcome to visit and see how the house actually runs.

    • Care Home

Thornfield Care Home is a residential care home in Lymington, Hampshire, providing older people with a comfortable place to live and support close at hand. We are not a large place and we do not run like one, so the kitchen, the lounge and the garden are used much as they would be in any household. Supporting residents living with dementia is a substantial part of our work, and we also support people managing mental health conditions. In both cases the approach starts with knowing the person properly: their history, their habits, what settles them and what does not. Routines are kept familiar, changes explained before they happen, and distress treated as something with a cause. Our team helps with personal care, medication, mobility and meals, and equally with the things that make a day worth having: conversation, music, a walk outside, or simply peace when that is what somebody wants. Relatives are welcome whenever they can come. Respite stays are available for shorter periods. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. If you are looking at care homes in this part of Hampshire, please come and see us on an ordinary day.

Our specialism lies in residential care for older people, and this focus shapes every aspect of what we do. For our residents, this means support with the everyday tasks that may have become more challenging over time, whether that is help with personal care, medication, mobility, or simply the reassurance of knowing that kind and capable people are nearby around the clock. We take time to understand each individual, their life story, their preferences, and the small details that make a real difference to how they spend their day. For families, this means peace of mind that a parent, spouse, or relative is being looked after with genuine warmth, dignity, and respect. We believe that good residential care is about more than meeting practical needs. It is about nurturing companionship, encouraging independence where possible, and creating moments of joy and connection in everyday life. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission, carried out in April 2021, resulted in an overall rating of Good. We are pleased to share that we achieved a Good rating across all five key areas assessed by the CQC, including how safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well led our home is. Choosing a care home is one of the most personal and emotional decisions a family can make, and we understand that no website or description can replace the experience of visiting in person, meeting the team, and getting a real feel for the atmosphere. If you are exploring residential care options on Hayling Island or in the wider Hampshire area for an older relative, we would be genuinely glad to hear from you. Please do get in touch to arrange a visit, ask any questions, or simply talk through what you are looking for. Here at Fairview, we are proud to call Tadley, Hampshire our home. We provide residential care for adults in a warm and welcoming environment where people feel genuinely valued and supported in their everyday lives. Our team has a great deal of experience supporting people with learning disabilities and autism, and we take real care to understand each person as an individual. We know that good support looks different for everyone, so we work closely with residents, families and other professionals to make sure that the care we provide actually fits the life each person wants to live. That means respecting routines, encouraging independence wherever possible, and making sure people have a real say in the decisions that affect them. We also offer respite care for people who need a short break from their usual living arrangements, as well as for the families and carers who support them. We understand that coming into an unfamiliar place can feel unsettling, and we work hard to make sure that anyone staying with us for a shorter period feels just as settled and at ease as those who live here permanently. We were pleased to receive a rating of Good from the Care Quality Commission at our most recent inspection. We see that as an honest reflection of the effort our team puts in day to day, and it gives families some reassurance when they are thinking about whether Fairview might be the right place for someone they love. If you are considering care for yourself or for a family member, we would always encourage you to come and visit us. It is much easier to get a real sense of a place in person than from any written description, and we are very happy to answer any questions you might have.

Croft Manor Residential Home is a care home in Fareham, Hampshire, providing residential care to older people and to younger adults who need support with everyday life. We are not a large institution and we do not try to run like one. People keep their own routines here as far as they possibly can, which means breakfast when you wake rather than when a trolley arrives, and a day shaped around what you actually enjoy. We support a number of people living with dementia and a number of people living with mental health conditions. In both cases we have found that patience and familiarity do more good than any amount of process. Our staff tend to stay with us, which means that people living here are looked after by faces they recognise, and that continuity is worth a great deal when memory or mood is unreliable. Families are part of the picture rather than visitors to be managed. You are welcome to come when it suits you, to join us for a meal, and to tell us when you think we have got something wrong. Respite stays are available for people who need care for a short period, whether that is to give a family carer a rest or to allow someone to recover after illness. • Care Home

The White House at Curdridge is a residential care home near Southampton in Hampshire. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people managing mental health conditions. Respite stays are available. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall. We are proud of it and careful with it, because a rating describes one particular week and everything that earned it has to carry on happening afterwards. What sits behind it is fairly ordinary. We spend the first weeks learning about a person rather than fitting them into our routine. What they did for a living, what they will not be persuaded to eat, what time breakfast has always been, whether they would rather have company or the door shut and the radio on. Those details are most of what makes a room feel like home. Dementia care here rests on patience and a recognisable day. We avoid surprising people, we keep routines familiar, and when somebody is distressed we look for the cause rather than simply trying to settle them. Where mental health is part of the picture, the useful thing is steadiness: keeping to arrangements and being as reliable on difficult weeks as on good ones. We also take complaints seriously. Most of what we have improved here began with somebody telling us plainly that something was not good enough.

We understand that choosing a care home, whether for yourself or someone you love, is one of the most significant decisions a family can make. That is why we aim to be open and honest from the very first conversation. We will always take the time to answer questions, walk you through what day to day life looks like here, and make sure you feel comfortable before any decisions are made. For those who need a shorter stay, we also offer respite care. This can be an important lifeline for family carers who need a break, and we approach it with the same level of thought and attention we give to our long term residents. Settling in for even a brief period matters, and we work hard to make that transition feel easy and unhurried. We are pleased that our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as good across the board. We see that as an honest reflection of the consistency our team brings to their work every single day, not a ceiling to settle at, but a foundation to keep building from. If you would like to find out more about St Andrews or come and see us for yourself, we would be very happy to hear from you. We are based in Fareham and welcome visits from anyone considering care for themselves or a family member.

Crofton Lodge is a residential care home in Fareham, Hampshire, and we support a broader group than many homes take on. Older people who need help with daily living. Adults with learning disabilities and autistic people. Adults living with mental ill health. Younger adults. Respite stays are available as well. A mixed household only works if people are treated as individuals rather than as categories, and that is how we try to run the place. Support is agreed with the person, written in terms they recognise, and reviewed as circumstances move. Some residents need a great deal of practical help with washing, dressing, medication and mobility. Others mainly want a settled place to live, company when they choose it, and a household that holds steady through a difficult week. For autistic people, predictability is a need rather than a preference, so changes are explained in advance and staffing is kept consistent where we can. For residents living with mental ill health, what we offer most is reliability and an absence of drama. We should be straightforward about our position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have gone through the findings with our team, and those areas are where our attention is concentrated at present. We would rather tell you ourselves and then let you judge the place for yourself. Anyone considering Crofton Lodge is welcome to visit on an ordinary day and ask us anything.

    • Care Home

Three Oaks Residential Care Home is in Fareham in Hampshire. We care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we welcome respite guests as well as people moving in permanently. We are not a large home and we have no wish to be. Being smaller means people are known properly rather than in outline, that our staff notice when somebody is not themselves, and that the day can be arranged around the people living here rather than the other way about. Getting up when you like, eating what you want, having your own furniture and pictures around you and seeing visitors whenever they call are ordinary parts of life, and we treat them as such. Our staff help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and moving about, without making a performance of it. For people living with dementia we keep things familiar and unhurried, and we ask families to tell us about a person's life in detail, because knowing somebody's history is nearly always what allows us to reassure them rather than correct them. Respite stays matter here too. Caring for a relative at home is demanding work and a planned break is often what makes it possible to keep going, so short stay guests get the same care as anyone living here. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Please come and look round and speak to our staff and to families of people who live here.

    • Care Home

Compton House is a residential care home in Winchester in Hampshire. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, and we offer respite stays for people whose usual home is elsewhere. Because the people living here want different things from their week, we plan support one person at a time. What helps an older person feel settled is not what builds confidence in a younger adult with a learning disability, and we would rather do both properly than stretch one routine across everybody. That means paying attention to particulars: how somebody likes to be spoken to, what they can manage themselves and would rather we left alone, what tends to make a difficult day. For our younger residents much of the work is about widening what is possible. Cooking something you actually want. Handling money with confidence. Getting into town on your own. Keeping a course, a job or a friendship going. Progress can be slow and can go backwards, and our part is to keep the chance open without pressure. Understanding how each person communicates is essential, particularly where speech is not the main route. We learn each person's way, record it so that everyone responds the same, and keep checking we have understood. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and we keep asking the people living here what should change.

    • Care Home

We are a residential care home in Waterlooville supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic people, including younger adults and older people who need help with daily living. The house is run as a household rather than a service. Everyone has their own room and their own things, and the week is worked out between the people who live here and the staff supporting them: what is cooked, when the shopping is done, who wants to go out and where to. For adults who have often had decisions made on their behalf, that ordinary degree of control is much of the point. Support is built around what each person wants to be able to do. For some that means a job, a college course or a regular volunteering day. For others it is getting out regularly, keeping up with family, managing money with a hand from staff, or learning to do more around the house. Where people have grown older here, needs change and we change with them rather than suggesting a move. Consistency counts for a great deal, particularly for autistic people, so we keep staffing as settled as we can and explain changes before they happen. Respite stays are available alongside longer places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and visit and meet the people who live here.

    • Care Home

Upton Grey Close Care Home is a residential home near Winchester supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We are a house rather than an institution, and the people who live here have a real say in how their own home is run, from the shopping list to how the week is planned. Support is worked out individually. Some of the people here need help with most parts of the day, while others need very little practical help but rely on us for routine, encouragement and staff who understand how they communicate. We take our time working that out at the beginning, and we ask the people who know a person best. Everyday life covers cooking, shopping, laundry, keeping your own room as you like it, deciding what to do at the weekend and getting out into the local area. We support people to do as much for themselves as they can and want to, which sometimes means standing back and letting something take longer. Our staff are trained for the individuals they support, including communication and positive ways of responding when somebody is distressed. Keeping the team consistent matters, because trust builds over months rather than in a single shift. We also offer respite stays, which give family carers a break and the person a proper stay with us. Please get in touch if you would like to look round.

    • Care Home

Oakwood House is a residential care home in Gosport, Hampshire. We support adults who are autistic or who have a learning disability, including younger adults, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. What we are aiming for is an ordinary life with the right support wrapped around it. That means people choosing how their day runs, being involved in cooking and shopping, having their own space respected and going out into Gosport rather than spending life indoors. It also means we take the time to understand how each person communicates, what they find overwhelming and what helps them feel safe again when a day goes wrong. We support with personal care, medication, meals, money and appointments, always with an eye on what somebody would rather do themselves. Independence is not something we give people, it is something we try hard not to take away. Working with families and other professionals matters here. We ask relatives what they know, we share what we see, and we would much rather have an awkward conversation early than a serious problem later. Respite guests get the same attention as everyone else, because a short stay still has to feel safe. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Carlton House Rest Home is a residential care home in New Milton, Hampshire. We support older people who need help with daily living, along with younger adults, residents living with dementia or a mental health condition, people with a physical disability and those living with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available for shorter periods. We support a broad mix of people here, so we plan around individuals rather than working to a formula. Residents decide when they get up, how they spend their time and what they eat. Meals are cooked on the premises and preferences are remembered. There is company and activity for those who want it and no pressure on anyone who does not. Staff take time to learn what helps a particular resident feel settled and what unsettles them, which matters enormously for anyone living with dementia or managing a mental health condition. For residents with a sensory impairment we make sure conversation and information actually reach them. We keep close contact with GPs, community mental health teams and district nurses so that health concerns are dealt with quickly, and we keep families properly informed. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time. The Care Quality Commission most recently rated us good overall. Please come and look round.

    • Care Home

We are Baytrees, a residential care home in Basingstoke, Hampshire, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. We offer permanent places and respite stays. A small home allows support to be genuinely individual rather than a compromise between too many competing needs, and that is the main reason we work the way we do. Staff know everyone here properly, including the things that never make it into a care plan. We take autism seriously as something that shapes how a person experiences a place, not as a diagnosis written at the top of a file. Predictability matters. The sensory environment matters. Being told what is happening and when, and having that turn out to be true, matters enormously. We try to get those right first, because when they are wrong nothing else works. People here are supported to make their own choices and to do things for themselves wherever they can, with help offered rather than imposed. Respite stays follow the same approach, with a proper introduction beforehand so that arriving is not a shock. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Here at Sanctuary Supported Living in Petersfield, Hampshire, we provide residential care for younger adults with learning disabilities and autism, including respite care for those who need a short break or temporary support. We are proud to have been rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission, a reflection of the genuine effort that goes into everything we do here at 26 Tilmore Gardens. That rating matters to us not as a badge, but because it tells us that the people we support and their families are experiencing something meaningful. Our focus is on younger adults, and we understand that this stage of life comes with its own set of hopes, frustrations and ambitions. We try hard to make sure the people who live with us or stay with us for respite feel genuinely at home, with real choice over how their days look and how they spend their time. We do not believe in a one size fits all approach, and we take time to understand each person as an individual, including their communication preferences, their routines and what brings them enjoyment. For families and carers exploring respite care, we know how much trust it takes to hand over the care of someone you love, even briefly. We work closely with families to make sure transitions feel as smooth and reassuring as possible. Living in Petersfield gives us access to a welcoming market town with good community connections, green spaces and local amenities that help the people we support to be part of their wider community rather than separate from it. If you would like to find out more about whether we might be the right fit for you or your family member, we would very much welcome a conversation.

We at Tall Oaks are proud to offer a warm and welcoming residential care home in Farnborough, Hampshire, where compassionate support meets genuine community spirit. Nestled within the leafy surroundings of the GU postcode area, our home provides a comfortable base for older people and younger adults who benefit from thoughtful, person centred residential care. Our setting in Farnborough places us within easy reach of local amenities, green spaces, and the wider South East community, making it simple for family and friends to visit and for residents to remain connected to the places and people they love. The home itself has been designed with comfort in mind, offering welcoming communal areas where residents can socialise, quieter spaces for reflection, and a homely atmosphere that encourages a genuine sense of belonging. We support a broad range of individuals with diverse needs, and our specialisms reflect that commitment to inclusive, tailored care. For older people, we provide dedicated residential support that focuses on maintaining independence, dignity, and daily wellbeing. Our team is also experienced in supporting adults living with learning disabilities and autism, and we take pride in adapting our approach so that every resident feels understood, respected, and empowered to live life on their own terms. For those living with a physical disability, we work closely with residents and their loved ones to ensure the environment and daily routines suit individual needs, whether that involves mobility support, assistance with personal care, or simply the reassurance of knowing help is always close at hand. We also welcome residents with visual or hearing impairments, using sensitive communication approaches and practical adjustments to help everyone feel confident and comfortable within our home. Younger adults find at Tall Oaks a supportive stepping stone, whether they are seeking longer term residential care or a shorter stay. Our respite care offering is particularly valued by families who need trusted, temporary support, whether during a holiday, following a hospital stay, or simply to allow a regular carer some well deserved rest. Families can be assured that during a respite stay, their loved one will receive the same warm welcome and attentive care as our permanent residents. What this means in practice is a daily rhythm shaped around the individual. Care plans are developed collaboratively, taking into account personal preferences, life history, cultural background, and aspirations. Our team takes time to get to know each resident, building the kind of trusting relationships that turn a house into a home. Families are welcomed as partners in care, and we encourage open, honest communication so that everyone feels informed and involved. Quality and safety sit at the heart of what we do. Tall Oaks has been rated Good by the Care Quality Commission across every domain assessed, including Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led, following its most recent inspection in July 2021. For families, this consistent rating offers meaningful reassurance that the care provided here meets national standards and that our team is committed to delivering safe, effective, and compassionate support day in and day out. Being rated Good across all five domains reflects the dedication of our staff and the culture we strive to nurture. It speaks to our ongoing focus on listening to residents, responding to their changing needs, and ensuring that leadership within the home actively supports both those we care for and those who provide that care. We view this rating not as a destination but as a foundation upon which we continue to build. Choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that choice. It often comes at a time of uncertainty, and questions about safety, kindness, and quality of life are entirely natural. At Tall Oaks, we aim to answer those questions not only with words but through the everyday moments that make life meaningful, whether that is a shared cup of tea, a favourite meal enj

Parkwood Lodge is a residential care home in Waterlooville supporting adults living with mental ill health. We offer respite stays as well as longer term places. People usually come to us at a point where living entirely independently has become too much, at least for now. Our job is to provide somewhere settled while that changes or while somebody finds a way of managing. We do not put a timetable on it, and a slow start is not treated here as a failure. Stability is what we offer first. A calm house, staff who are present and who know you, and a day that belongs to the person rather than to the rota. Residents choose how they spend their time. We will encourage someone who has withdrawn to come and join in, and we will equally leave a person in peace when that is what helps. Practical support matters as much as anything. Medication, appointments, benefits and paperwork, cooking, laundry and looking after a room. Alongside that we work on the things that make a more independent life possible, and we take people's own goals seriously rather than deciding for them what progress should look like. We work closely with community mental health teams and raise concerns early when somebody seems to be struggling. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Our residential care home has been thoughtfully created for older people, younger adults, and those living with dementia who need reliable, person centred care in familiar surroundings. Nestled within the PO postcode area of Havant, our home benefits from the quiet charm of this well connected Hampshire town, with its blend of coastal air, green spaces, and community feel. The local setting provides a peaceful backdrop for daily life, whilst still offering easy access for family and friends travelling from across the South East to visit. Inside, we aim to create a comfortable, homely environment where residents can feel settled, safe, and truly at ease from the moment they arrive. Our specialisms reflect the varied needs of the people we support. For older people who require residential care, we provide gentle daily assistance, companionship, and the reassurance of knowing help is always close at hand. For residents living with dementia, our approach is patient, understanding, and rooted in respect for each person's history, preferences, and individuality. We recognise that no two journeys with dementia are the same, and we take time to learn what brings comfort, familiarity, and joy to each resident we care for. We also welcome younger adults who benefit from residential support, ensuring their care plans reflect their aspirations, independence, and personal goals. Life should not stand still simply because someone requires care, and we work hard to encourage meaningful days filled with choice and dignity. Our respite care offers families a trusted option when a loved one needs short term support, whether following a hospital stay, during a family holiday, or simply to give a regular carer time to rest. Respite guests are treated with the same warmth and attention as our permanent residents, and many families find it a reassuring way to experience life at our home before considering longer term arrangements. In practice, our care means unhurried mornings, familiar routines, nourishing meals, and staff who take the time to listen. It means celebrating small moments, honouring life stories, and involving families in the decisions that matter. We understand that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we strive to make that transition as gentle and reassuring as possible for everyone involved. Our commitment to quality is reflected in our CQC rating of Good overall, following our most recent inspection. We are particularly proud to have been rated Outstanding for being Responsive, which recognises the way we tailor care around each individual, adapt to changing needs, and ensure residents feel genuinely heard. Alongside this, we achieved Good ratings across the Safe, Effective, Caring, and Well led domains, demonstrating a consistent standard of care that families can trust. For loved ones searching for reassurance, these independent findings offer meaningful confirmation that the care provided here is safe, thoughtful, and centred on the people who live with us. If you are exploring residential, dementia, or respite care in Havant or the wider Hampshire area, we would be delighted to hear from you. Choosing the right home takes time, and we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask questions, and discover whether Malmesbury Lawn Care Home could be the right place for your loved one to feel truly at home.

    • Care Home

Woolston Road is a residential care home in Southampton supporting adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with a physical disability and younger adults who need support through the day and night. We treat this as the home of the people who live here, which shapes everything from how the day is organised to how staff behave in it. Everyone has their own room and their own belongings, and support is built around how each person wants to live rather than around what is convenient for us. Support varies a great deal between individuals. For some it is full help with personal care and moving safely, for others it is prompting, encouragement and being nearby while they get on with things themselves. We take communication seriously, learning how each person expresses themselves and making sure that choices offered are real and understood. We support people to get out into Southampton, to keep up activities and interests, to attend appointments and to stay in touch with family and friends. Staff are trained for the specific needs they support and we work with the professionals involved so that the approach stays consistent. Respite stays can be arranged where appropriate. If you are looking for a placement, please contact us and come and see the house.

    • Care Home

Forest Brow is a residential care home in Liss, Hampshire. We look after older people who can no longer manage safely at home, and we try to run the home as a home rather than as a unit, with the ordinary rhythms of meals, company, fresh air and rest that people are used to. Our care is residential rather than nursing. In practice that means help with washing and dressing, medication, eating well and moving about safely, alongside the less measurable things that matter just as much: conversation, being listened to and having someone notice when you are not quite yourself. We support residents living with dementia, and our approach is to learn each person's history and habits properly, so that we can reassure them in terms that make sense to them. We offer respite care too, which gives family carers a proper rest and lets prospective residents try the home before committing to anything permanent. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement, and we would rather say so here ourselves. We are focused on the areas raised and we are not asking anyone to take our word for it. If you are considering the home for someone you love, please visit, speak to residents and their relatives, and judge us on what you find.

    • Care Home

We are the home at 23 Valley Road in Southampton, where we support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, mostly younger adults, and where we can also offer respite stays. This is a small house and the people who live here are supported by a team who know them well. That familiarity is the whole point. When staff understand somebody thoroughly, they can tell the difference between a person who wants to be left alone for an hour and a person who is quietly becoming distressed, and they can respond to each properly. We support people to have as much control over their lives as possible. Residents choose how their rooms look, what they eat, what they do with their time and who is involved in supporting them. Where somebody communicates without speech, we take the time to learn their own way of telling us things and we build their support around what they have actually told us. Routine and predictability matter to many of the people we support, so we keep things steady and give plenty of warning about anything that will be different. Days here include the ordinary business of running a household, with people joining in as much as they want, alongside getting out locally, seeing family and friends, and doing the things each person enjoys. Staff are trained for the particular needs of the people they support. Families, social workers and health colleagues are welcome to visit and to ask us anything about how we work.

We are Stroud House, a residential care home in Petersfield, Hampshire. We support older people who need help with daily living, including people living with dementia, people living with mental ill health and people with a physical disability. This is somebody's home first and a care setting second, and we try to keep that true in the ordinary details of the day. People bring their own furniture, pictures and belongings, and keep as much of their own routine as they wish. Some enjoy company and the busier parts of the day, others prefer their own room and quiet, and nobody is expected to join in with anything simply because it appears on a calendar. Help with washing, dressing, medication and moving about is given at the person's pace and as discreetly as possible, and for those with a physical disability we assist with mobility and transfers in a way that leaves as much control as we can with the individual. For people living with dementia we pay close attention to familiar objects, familiar faces and a steady rhythm, and we take time to learn about a person's work, family and interests so that reassurance rests on something they recognise. We also provide respite stays, which give a family carer a genuine break or help somebody regain confidence after illness before returning home. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us good overall. Relatives and friends are welcome. Please come and visit us if you are considering Stroud House.

    • Care Home

We are a residential care home in Hook, providing a home for older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia. Our aim is an unhurried house. A good deal of care is spoiled simply by being rushed, so we try to give people the time to wash, dress and eat at their own pace, and to sit with somebody who wants to talk rather than moving straight on to the next task. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Meals are cooked here and we pay attention when somebody would rather have something different. Dementia care comes down to knowing the person. We ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits, because that knowledge is what allows a member of staff to reassure somebody who is anxious or cannot place where they are. It is worth a great deal more than any written procedure. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. A planned break can be what allows a relative to keep providing care at home for longer. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Families are welcome whenever they wish to come, and we would far rather hear about a problem early. Please come and see the home for yourself.

Stonecroft provides residential care in Havant for adults, including younger adults, adults with learning disabilities and autism, and people with physical disabilities. We also offer planned respite stays. The people who live here are adults with their own lives to lead, and our job is to make those lives possible rather than to manage them. Everybody has their own room, their own routine and a real say in how the house runs. Our staff help with personal care, medicines, meals, money and the ordinary work of a household, and we stand back wherever somebody can manage alone, because independence is easily eroded by being helpful. The particulars are where the work lies. How a person communicates, what makes an environment tolerable, how much notice they need before something changes, which parts of the day they would rather handle themselves, and how they want to be helped with a physical disability are all things we learn from the person rather than assume from a diagnosis. When change cannot be avoided, we prepare for it properly and at their pace. We also support people to have a life beyond the building, keeping up with family and friends and getting to the activities, groups, work or education that matter to them. Please come and visit, and spend time with the people who already live here.

West Cliff Hall is a residential care home in Southampton for older people, including those living with dementia, residents with a physical disability and people living with sight or hearing loss. We also support some younger adults whose needs suit a home of this kind. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and whatever else has become difficult, and we leave people in charge of the rest. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they spend the day, what they eat and whether they want company or a quiet afternoon on their own. For residents living with dementia we keep the house familiar and the staff consistent, explain what is happening as we go and take time to work out what lies behind a change in mood rather than treating it as a symptom. Where somebody has a physical disability the right equipment is in place and staff are trained to help with moving safely and comfortably. For residents with sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate and do not move things without saying so. Meals are cooked here and we ask people what they actually want to eat. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time. Respite stays are available for family carers needing a break or for somebody regaining strength after illness. • Care Home

Oaklands Care Home is a residential care home in Waterlooville, Hampshire. We are home to older people who need help with daily life, including many living with dementia, and to younger adults who need residential care, and we welcome people for respite stays. Moving into a home usually follows a difficult period, so we take the first weeks slowly. We ask about the routines somebody has kept for years, what they actually like to eat, whether they are an early riser or would rather lie in, and we fit around that rather than expecting people to adapt to us. Rooms hold people's own furniture and photographs, and nobody comes in without knocking. Days are not heavily timetabled. Some residents want company, music, cards and a trip out. Others want the newspaper and quiet. Both are available and neither is treated as the right answer. For residents living with dementia, consistency is what helps most, so we keep staffing settled and learn each person's history properly. When somebody is distressed we look for the reason behind it rather than trying to close it down. We work with local GPs and community nurses so health changes are picked up early, and we keep families informed as a matter of course. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and look round whenever it suits you.

Published prices are often starting prices, and come from homes that publish fees, so treat them as a guide. What a council pays differs from council to council. Ask the home for its own price. Powered by Orrery Intelligence.

Arranging and funding a care home place in Hampshire

Money and eligibility shape almost everything that follows, including which of the 325 care homes listed on this page are realistically within reach. Two separate pieces of assessment work sit behind most placements, and both are worth starting early, because homes with a strong local reputation can hold waiting lists.

Asking for a care needs assessment

Anyone who appears to need care and support can ask their local authority for an assessment, whatever their savings. A social care practitioner looks at daily living, mobility, medication, memory, and the risks a person faces at home, then records the level of support needed. Where residential care is the right answer, the assessment produces a care and support plan that any home can work from. Relatives acting for someone who cannot easily speak for themselves can ask to take part, and an advocate can be arranged where there is nobody else to fill that role.

Where Hampshire County Council fits in

Funded support follows a financial assessment carried out by Hampshire County Council once care needs have been agreed. Capital and income are both taken into account, and the outcome decides whether the council contributes towards fees, whether the person pays in full, or whether a deferred payment arrangement secured against a property would help. Even where someone is clearly funding their own care, the council still owes a duty to provide information and advice, so the process is rarely wasted effort.

Understanding what the fees cover

Weekly fees differ from one Hampshire home to the next and depend on the room, the level of personal care agreed, and whether any nursing input is involved. Ask each home for a written schedule showing what the fee includes and what is billed separately, since hairdressing, chiropody, and outings are often charged on top. Where a family prefers a home costing more than the council will pay, a third party contribution may be required, and that commitment has to stay affordable for the long term.

Choosing between care homes in Hampshire

Reading inspection outcomes properly

Ratings across this collection run from Outstanding through Good and Requires Improvement, alongside homes registered too recently to carry a judgement yet. Jasmine House, Sansa House, and The Conifers are among those holding Outstanding, while a Good rating still means the home met the standards the Care Quality Commission expects. Check the date of the inspection and read the findings on safety and leadership rather than the headline alone, because a judgement made some years ago describes the home as it was then, not necessarily as it is now.

What a visit should tell you

Arrange to visit at a busy point in the day, ideally around a mealtime, and notice whether residents look occupied and whether staff greet them by name. Ask how many carers are on duty overnight, how the home responds to a fall or a sudden illness, and how quickly families hear about it. Questions about staff turnover deserve a direct answer, because continuity of carers shapes daily life far more than furnishings do.

Matching the home to the person

Some homes in Hampshire are large purpose built settings for older people, while others are ordinary houses supporting a handful of adults with learning disabilities or autism. Think about the routine that would suit the person moving in, the distance relatives can travel comfortably and often, and whether the home could go on meeting needs as they change.

Frequently asked questions about care homes in Hampshire

How do we arrange a care needs assessment in Hampshire?

Contact adult social care at Hampshire County Council and ask for a care needs assessment for the person concerned. The assessment can take place at home or on a hospital ward, and there is no charge for it whatever the household savings. A practitioner will look at daily tasks, mobility, health conditions, and the support already in place, then set out what is needed. If residential care is recommended, the resulting plan gives every home you approach a clear description of the support required.

Can Hampshire County Council pay for a care home placement?

It can, where the care needs assessment shows residential care is required and the financial assessment shows the person cannot meet the full cost themselves. Capital and income are both considered, and any contribution is worked out individually rather than by a fixed rule. Where the council agrees to fund a place, it normally pays up to a level it considers sufficient to meet assessed needs, and a top up may be needed for a more expensive home. Deferred payment agreements are also possible in some circumstances where a property is involved.

Which providers offer residential care in Hampshire?

This page gathers three hundred and sixteen registered care homes across Hampshire, all of them residential settings inspected by the Care Quality Commission. They run from large homes for older people to small houses supporting adults with learning disabilities or autism. Each entry links to a profile showing the provider details and the current rating. Narrowing by location first, then by rating, is usually the quickest way to build a shortlist worth visiting.

What is the difference between a residential care home and a nursing home?

A residential care home provides personal care, meaning help with washing, dressing, medication, meals, and the shape of the day. A nursing home offers that same support with qualified nurses on site, which matters where there are complex medical needs such as wounds, feeding tubes, or unstable conditions. The homes collected on this page are registered for residential care. If a setting with nursing cover is needed, the care needs assessment should say so, and it saves time to establish that before booking visits.

How far ahead should we start looking at care homes in Hampshire?

Beginning a few months ahead is ideal, since it leaves room for an assessment, unhurried visits, and a considered choice. In practice families often start after a hospital admission or a sudden decline, when the timescale is days rather than weeks. Even then it is reasonable to ask about a short term placement while you look properly, rather than accepting the first vacancy offered. Registering interest early with homes you like costs nothing and puts you on the waiting list.

What should we ask when visiting a care home in Hampshire?

Ask how staffing levels change overnight and at weekends, and how long the current team has worked there. Ask what happens when a resident becomes unwell, which GP practice covers the home, and how quickly relatives are contacted. Ask to see the activities that actually ran over the past fortnight rather than a sample timetable, and how residents influence what is on offer. Finally, ask what the fee includes and what is charged separately, and ask for that answer in writing.
