Families weighing up care homes in Hampshire will find three hundred and sixteen registered providers gathered on this page, each of them a residential care home. Inspection outcomes across the collection differ: some homes hold an Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission, others are rated Good, some are marked Requires Improvement, and a few have registered too recently to have been rated at all. Hampshire County Council is the authority responsible for carrying out a care needs assessment, which establishes what level of daily support a person actually requires, and it also completes the separate financial assessment that decides whether any part of the fees will be met from public funds. Asking for both before a placement is agreed is worth doing, whatever the likely outcome on funding. Every home listed here has its own profile, so the sensible next step is to open the ones that suit your location and budget, read the inspection report sitting behind the rating rather than the rating alone, and let what you find there shape the questions you put to the manager when you visit.

Whiteoaks Rest Home is a residential care home in Fareham, looking after older people who need help with everyday life rather than nursing care. We offer permanent places and respite stays. Living somewhere like this should not mean giving up the shape of your own day. Residents get up and go to bed at hours that suit them, keep their own habits and belongings, and carry on with what they have always enjoyed as far as health allows. Our part is to provide the help that makes that possible and then to stay out of the way. We think the quality of a home shows up in unremarkable details. Whether you are asked or told. Whether the food is worth looking forward to. Whether somebody notices you are quieter than usual. Whether your family feel able to drop in without arranging it first. Those are the things residents actually notice, day after day. Respite guests are part of the household from the moment they arrive rather than visitors passing through. For many people a short stay is their first experience of a care home, and we would like it to be a reassuring one. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. You are welcome to come and look round at a time that suits you, meet the people who live here, and ask whatever you want to ask.

We also provide respite care, which can be a lifeline for family carers who need a short break, are recovering from illness, or simply want peace of mind knowing their relative is in safe, familiar hands for a period of time. Our respite stays are designed to feel welcoming from the very first day, with the same warmth and attentiveness offered to permanent residents. We want to be transparent about our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection, carried out in May 2023, which resulted in an overall rating of Requires Improvement. The domains of Safe, Caring, Responsive, and Well led were each rated Requires Improvement, whilst Effective was rated Inadequate. We recognise what these findings mean for the families considering us, and we take them seriously. A rating of this kind is a call to reflect, to listen, and to strengthen the quality of care we provide, and we are committed to that ongoing work every single day. If you are exploring care options for a loved one with a learning disability or autism, or if you are looking for respite support in the Romsey area, we warmly invite you to get in touch. We understand that choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we would be honoured to answer your questions, share more about our approach, and welcome you to see our home for yourself.

- Care Home
We at Solent Lodge offer residential care in the welcoming town of Fareham, Hampshire, where our home has become a familiar and trusted part of the local community. As a dedicated residential care home, we provide a supportive environment for older people and younger adults alike, offering a genuine alternative to remaining alone at home when daily life becomes challenging. Nestled within the PO postcode area of Fareham, our location benefits from the gentle character of this South East coastal town, with its blend of green spaces, local amenities, and easy connections for visiting family members. The setting has been thoughtfully arranged to feel like a true home rather than an institution, giving residents the comfort of familiar surroundings whilst offering the peace of mind that comes from having compassionate support close at hand. Our care provision is broad and inclusive, reflecting the diverse needs of the people who live with us. We support older people who may need help with the routines of daily life, as well as younger adults who benefit from a stable and understanding environment. We also welcome individuals living with learning disabilities or autism, those with physical disabilities, and residents who experience visual or hearing impairments. For each person, we take the time to understand who they are, what matters to them, and how we can help them live well. This person centred approach means that daily routines, activities, and support are shaped around the individual rather than a one size fits all model. Families who need short term support are also welcome through our respite care offering. Whether a loved one requires care during a family holiday, following a hospital stay, or simply to give a regular carer some well earned rest, we provide a warm and settled place to stay. Many families find that respite visits also offer a gentle way to explore whether longer term residential care might be the right next step, without the pressure of an immediate decision. Our latest CQC inspection resulted in an overall rating of Requires Improvement, and we want to be open with families about what this means. Within that inspection, we were rated Good in three important areas: Effective, Caring, and Responsive. This reflects the heart of what we do every day. Our team was recognised for delivering care that achieves good outcomes for residents, for the genuine kindness and respect shown in every interaction, and for responding thoughtfully to the changing needs of the people we support. The areas identified as needing improvement, Safe and Well led, are ones we take seriously, and we are committed to strengthening these aspects so that every part of life at Solent Lodge matches the warmth of the care our residents already experience. Choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that responsibility. If you are exploring options for a loved one in Fareham or the wider Hampshire area, we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask questions, and learn more about whether Solent Lodge might be the right home. We are here to listen, to reassure, and to help you find the care that feels right for your family.

We are Blossom House, a residential care home on Hayling Island. We care for older people, including people living with dementia, people managing a mental health condition, and people with a physical disability. What we provide is residential care, and we are clear with families about the difference between that and nursing care so that nobody moves in somewhere that cannot meet their needs. Within it, we help with washing, dressing and moving about safely, support people with medication, provide proper meals and make sure nobody sits alone all day unless that is their choice. The home is run at the pace of the people living in it. Nobody is woken to suit a schedule, mealtimes bend around the person, and how the day is spent is a matter for the individual. Dementia care here rests on knowing the person. We learn about the work somebody did, the family they raised and the routines that steady them, and we use that rather than correcting them about the present. It makes for calmer days. Our staff know residents well enough to notice when somebody is quieter or eating less than usual, and we ring families early rather than waiting. Visitors are welcome whenever they want to come. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent CQC overall rating is good. Please contact us to arrange a visit.

- Care Home
Brighton Lodge is a residential care home in Emsworth, supporting older people and younger adults, including people with a learning disability, people who are autistic, and people living with a physical disability. Our aim is straightforward. We want the people who live here to have as much say over their own lives as they can, and to have the practical support that makes that possible. That means asking rather than assuming. Some of the people we support want help with every part of the day, while others need a steady presence in the background and the confidence that someone is there if things become difficult. We write support plans with the person, and with their family or advocate when they want that, and we change them when circumstances change rather than waiting for a review date to come round. Emsworth is a pleasant place to live and we make use of it. Trips into the village, time by the water, and keeping up with clubs or interests that mattered before someone moved in are all things we try to protect. We should be open about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather say so plainly than talk around it, and putting that right is where our attention currently sits. We also offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period.

We are actively working to build on our strengths and address every area where we can do better for the people who live with us. Sansa House is a residential care home in Basingstoke, Hampshire, supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, most of them younger adults. Respite stays are available too. We are a small house and everything follows from that. People have their own space and their own routines and a genuine say in how the place is run, from the weekly shop through to what happens at the weekend. What we are trying to achieve is not a smoothly run home for its own sake. It is that the people living here get on with the things they actually want to do, whether that is a job, a college course, seeing friends, managing their own money or going out without somebody alongside them. That means knowing people properly. How somebody communicates when they are anxious and words are harder to reach. What their sensory needs are. What genuinely helps when a day begins to go wrong. Support plans are written with the person in language that is theirs. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding, and the better measure is what the people living here would say about an ordinary week.

- Care Home
Hindson House is a residential care home in Basingstoke. We support older people and younger adults, including people with a learning disability, autistic people, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Supporting a mix of people works when it is done thoughtfully, and we put effort into making sure everyone has the routine, space and company that suits them rather than a compromise that suits nobody. Some people here want a busy week with plenty going on outside the house. Others want quiet and familiarity. Both are properly catered for. We plan from the person. What they want to be able to do, how they communicate, what they can manage alone, what they want help with and what they would rather we left well alone. Independence is the aim from the first day rather than something handed back later, and where something looks difficult we work out how to make it possible instead of looking for a reason to avoid it. For people with sensory loss we adapt how we approach and communicate, so care never arrives unannounced. For autistic people we pay close attention to environment and pace, and we treat a preference as information rather than a problem. Respite stays are available for planned breaks. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. If you are looking at options in Hampshire, come and visit. We would rather you saw the house on a normal day.

Care plans are built around the individual, not the other way around, and we work closely with residents, their families and other professionals to get things right. For those we support with learning disabilities and autism, we know how much the right environment matters. SeeAbility Fairways Residential Care Home is in Aldershot, Hampshire. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, people with sight loss or hearing loss, adults with physical disabilities, younger adults and older people, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. A great many of the people we support live with sight loss alongside a learning disability, and that combination is often badly understood. It changes how a room should be arranged, how people should be greeted, how choices should be offered and how much warning somebody needs before anything moves or changes. We train our staff specifically for this and we build the house around it rather than treating it as an adjustment. Beyond that, this is a home where people live their own lives. People choose how their rooms look, take part in cooking, shopping and keeping the place going as much as they want to, and get out to the things they enjoy around Aldershot. Where somebody wants to work, study or join something regular, we build support around making it happen. We work closely with families, social workers, health colleagues and specialist sight teams, and we welcome being challenged when we have misread a situation. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Visitors and referrers are welcome to come and see the place.

- Care Home
Redlands is a residential care home in Eastleigh supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We also offer respite stays. We run this as a household rather than a service with bedrooms attached. People choose how their rooms look, what they eat, when they get up and how much of the day they spend in company. Those choices are not an extra laid on top of the care. They are most of what makes a place worth living in, and they take consistent effort to protect when staff change and pressures build. Support is planned around what each person wants to be able to do rather than only around risk. Cooking, shopping, managing money, using the bus, getting to college, work or activities, and keeping up with family and friends. Where somebody needs a great deal of help, we still look hard for the parts they can take on themselves, because independence disappears quietly unless someone is watching for it. Communication and environment get real attention. We learn how each person tells us what they want, including those who use little or no speech, and we adjust to them rather than the reverse. Noise, lighting, predictability and having somewhere quiet to retreat to all shape how a day turns out. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. - Care Home
Our home at 231 Brook Lane in Southampton provides residential care for adults with a learning disability and for autistic adults, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays. This is a house and we want it to feel like one. The people who live here have their own rooms, their own belongings and their own way of running a day, and support is arranged around that rather than around a timetable that suits staff. Some people have lived here together for years. Others arrive needing space and patience before they settle, and we do not rush that or treat it as a problem. Support is planned around what each person wants to be able to do rather than simply around risk. Cooking, shopping, managing money, using transport, getting to activities, college or work, and keeping up with family and friends. Where somebody needs a lot of help, we still look for what they can take on themselves, because independence slips away quietly unless someone is protecting it. Communication is something we take seriously. We learn how each person tells us what they want, including those who use little or no speech, and we adapt to them. Noise, lighting, routine and having a quiet place to go all affect how a day turns out. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch to visit.

- Care Home
Sunnycroft Residential Care Home is in Southampton. We care for older people, including many residents living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. We do not provide nursing on site, so we work closely with general practitioners, district nurses and other community professionals, and we are straight with families about what we can and cannot manage here. That honesty at the outset saves a great deal of difficulty later. What we do provide is daily life supported properly, and the things that matter most are unremarkable ones that take real discipline to sustain. Unrushed help with washing and dressing. Medication given reliably. Food that people genuinely look forward to, with company at the table. Staff who have been here long enough to notice when a resident is not quite themselves and who act on it. For people living with dementia, familiarity carries most of the load, so we keep our staffing steady and the daily rhythm predictable, and we ask relatives for the details of a life that make conversation possible. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding, and the measure that matters more to us is what residents would say about an ordinary week.

Ashley House Residential Care Home is a care home in Bordon, Hampshire. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, including people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Supporting somebody whose sight or hearing has gone is a practical business. It means describing what is happening rather than assuming it is obvious, keeping furniture and belongings where the person expects them, making sure they know who has just walked into the room, and never letting a sensory impairment turn into isolation because conversation has become too much effort for everybody else. The same practical attitude runs through the rest of what we do. People here decide when to get up, how to spend the day and how much company they want. Rooms belong to the people in them. Visitors come when it suits them, not when a rota allows. Where somebody has a physical disability, we try to notice when life is quietly narrowing in the name of safety. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the home if you are considering care locally.

Woodside Lodge in Christchurch is a residential care home for older people who need help with daily living. We support people living with dementia and people with mental health needs, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. What we are aiming at is an ordinary life with the help that makes it possible. People keep their own hours and their own belongings, choose where and with whom to spend the day, and are helped with washing, dressing and moving about as privately and unhurriedly as we can manage. Meals are cooked here with real choice at each one, and the kitchen will usually make something particular if somebody fancies it. With dementia, knowing a person well is what makes the difference. We gather somebody's history with their family when they arrive and keep adding to it, so that staff respond to the person and not to a set of behaviours, and we keep the rhythm of the day predictable because that does more good than any amount of organised activity. Where somebody is managing a mental health condition we try to be steady and clear rather than unpredictable. We watch health carefully without turning the house into a clinic, involve the surgery and community teams early, and tell families what is happening rather than waiting to be asked. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated the home good overall.

- Care Home
Avondale Lodge Care Home is a residential care home in Southampton, providing a settled home for older people who need support with everyday living. People come to us for different reasons. Sometimes managing a house had become too much. Sometimes a fall or an illness changed what was realistic. Whatever brought somebody here, our aim is that they come to think of this as home. Residents bring their own belongings, keep their own routines and decide how their days go, while our staff look after what has become difficult, from personal care and medication to meals and laundry. A number of the people living with us have dementia, and we also support residents managing mental health conditions. In both cases the work depends on patience, familiar faces and time. A member of staff who knows what someone did for a living, what they find unsettling and what reassures them can steady a difficult afternoon far better than any procedure. Respite stays are available too, whether a family carer needs a planned break or someone needs support for a few weeks after being unwell. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We are pleased with it, though what matters more to us is what residents and their relatives tell us week by week. If you would like to see Avondale Lodge, please ring and arrange a visit. Come and look round properly and ask us whatever you want to ask.

- Care Home
We are a residential care home in Southampton, providing a home for older people and younger adults who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with loss of sight or hearing. Our aim is a settled house where help is close at hand without taking over somebody's life. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Where someone needs help with washing, dressing or moving about, we try to give it without hurry and without doing more of the task than is actually needed. Dementia care rests on knowing the person rather than following a procedure, so we ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits. Where sight or hearing is poor, small habits matter: saying who you are on coming into a room, speaking clearly and not moving things about without saying so. Meals are cooked here and we listen when somebody would rather have something different. Family and friends are welcome whenever they wish to come. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. We do not yet hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission and are happy to discuss that openly. Please come and look round before deciding anything.

- Care Home
Homewood is a residential care home in Andover, Hampshire, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Respite stays are part of what we do. Being a small house means real familiarity. It also means we say honestly when somebody would be better served somewhere with more to offer. People furnish their rooms to suit themselves and take part in running the place. Jobs, courses and clubs are the point rather than additions to it. What we are really supporting is a life with something in it: a job, a course, a club, somewhere regular to go. Those are the purpose rather than extras attached to it. Predictability matters a great deal here, so we plan ahead and explain changes early rather than rearranging for our own convenience. Staff are expected to speak up if they think something is wrong, including about each other. A home where nobody raises concerns is not a safe one. People here are addressed as they wish to be addressed. First names are not automatic, and nobody is called love or dear unless they like it. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Our own measure is whether we would be content for a relative of ours to live here.

We at Saltmarsh House Residential Care Home are proud to offer a warm and welcoming home for older people on Hayling Island, providing high quality residential care, dementia support and respite stays in a peaceful corner of Hampshire. Nestled within the tranquil coastal community of Hayling Island, our home benefits from the gentle pace and fresh sea air that this part of the South East is so well loved for. The setting offers residents a calm and homely atmosphere, ideal for those who appreciate a quieter environment whilst still being part of a close knit local community within the PO postcode area. Our specialisms centre on older person and residential care, with dedicated support for individuals living with dementia and those requiring short term respite stays. For residents, this means daily life is shaped around familiar routines, gentle companionship and person centred attention that respects who they are and what matters most to them. For families, it means the reassurance of knowing that a loved one is being cared for by a team who understand the complexities of ageing and memory loss, and who take time to listen, adapt and support. Respite care at our home also offers a valuable option for families who may be caring for a relative themselves and need a trusted place for their loved one to stay, whether for a planned break or during a period of recovery. Whatever the reason for the stay, we aim to make every resident feel genuinely at home from the moment they arrive. We are pleased to hold an overall Good rating from the Care Quality Commission following our most recent inspection. Our home was rated Good for being safe, caring, responsive and well led, reflecting the compassionate and thoughtful approach our team brings to daily life. We continue to build on the areas identified for further development, ensuring that the quality of care we provide keeps evolving alongside the needs of those we support. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight that comes with it. If you are exploring options for a loved one on Hayling Island or the surrounding Hampshire area, we warmly invite you to get in touch to learn more about our home and how we may be able to support your family during this next chapter.

| Nursing dementia care Middle half of prices from 37 South East homes. Median £2,050. | Not published separately | £1,975 to £2,226 |
Published prices are often starting prices, and come from homes that publish fees, so treat them as a guide. What a council pays differs from council to council. Ask the home for its own price. Powered by Orrery Intelligence.
Arranging and funding a care home place in Hampshire
Money and eligibility shape almost everything that follows, including which of the 325 care homes listed on this page are realistically within reach. Two separate pieces of assessment work sit behind most placements, and both are worth starting early, because homes with a strong local reputation can hold waiting lists.
Asking for a care needs assessment
Anyone who appears to need care and support can ask their local authority for an assessment, whatever their savings. A social care practitioner looks at daily living, mobility, medication, memory, and the risks a person faces at home, then records the level of support needed. Where residential care is the right answer, the assessment produces a care and support plan that any home can work from. Relatives acting for someone who cannot easily speak for themselves can ask to take part, and an advocate can be arranged where there is nobody else to fill that role.
Where Hampshire County Council fits in
Funded support follows a financial assessment carried out by Hampshire County Council once care needs have been agreed. Capital and income are both taken into account, and the outcome decides whether the council contributes towards fees, whether the person pays in full, or whether a deferred payment arrangement secured against a property would help. Even where someone is clearly funding their own care, the council still owes a duty to provide information and advice, so the process is rarely wasted effort.
Understanding what the fees cover
Weekly fees differ from one Hampshire home to the next and depend on the room, the level of personal care agreed, and whether any nursing input is involved. Ask each home for a written schedule showing what the fee includes and what is billed separately, since hairdressing, chiropody, and outings are often charged on top. Where a family prefers a home costing more than the council will pay, a third party contribution may be required, and that commitment has to stay affordable for the long term.
Choosing between care homes in Hampshire
Reading inspection outcomes properly
Ratings across this collection run from Outstanding through Good and Requires Improvement, alongside homes registered too recently to carry a judgement yet. Jasmine House, Sansa House, and The Conifers are among those holding Outstanding, while a Good rating still means the home met the standards the Care Quality Commission expects. Check the date of the inspection and read the findings on safety and leadership rather than the headline alone, because a judgement made some years ago describes the home as it was then, not necessarily as it is now.
What a visit should tell you
Arrange to visit at a busy point in the day, ideally around a mealtime, and notice whether residents look occupied and whether staff greet them by name. Ask how many carers are on duty overnight, how the home responds to a fall or a sudden illness, and how quickly families hear about it. Questions about staff turnover deserve a direct answer, because continuity of carers shapes daily life far more than furnishings do.
Matching the home to the person
Some homes in Hampshire are large purpose built settings for older people, while others are ordinary houses supporting a handful of adults with learning disabilities or autism. Think about the routine that would suit the person moving in, the distance relatives can travel comfortably and often, and whether the home could go on meeting needs as they change.
Frequently asked questions about care homes in Hampshire
How do we arrange a care needs assessment in Hampshire?
Contact adult social care at Hampshire County Council and ask for a care needs assessment for the person concerned. The assessment can take place at home or on a hospital ward, and there is no charge for it whatever the household savings. A practitioner will look at daily tasks, mobility, health conditions, and the support already in place, then set out what is needed. If residential care is recommended, the resulting plan gives every home you approach a clear description of the support required.
Can Hampshire County Council pay for a care home placement?
It can, where the care needs assessment shows residential care is required and the financial assessment shows the person cannot meet the full cost themselves. Capital and income are both considered, and any contribution is worked out individually rather than by a fixed rule. Where the council agrees to fund a place, it normally pays up to a level it considers sufficient to meet assessed needs, and a top up may be needed for a more expensive home. Deferred payment agreements are also possible in some circumstances where a property is involved.
Which providers offer residential care in Hampshire?
This page gathers three hundred and sixteen registered care homes across Hampshire, all of them residential settings inspected by the Care Quality Commission. They run from large homes for older people to small houses supporting adults with learning disabilities or autism. Each entry links to a profile showing the provider details and the current rating. Narrowing by location first, then by rating, is usually the quickest way to build a shortlist worth visiting.
What is the difference between a residential care home and a nursing home?
A residential care home provides personal care, meaning help with washing, dressing, medication, meals, and the shape of the day. A nursing home offers that same support with qualified nurses on site, which matters where there are complex medical needs such as wounds, feeding tubes, or unstable conditions. The homes collected on this page are registered for residential care. If a setting with nursing cover is needed, the care needs assessment should say so, and it saves time to establish that before booking visits.
How far ahead should we start looking at care homes in Hampshire?
Beginning a few months ahead is ideal, since it leaves room for an assessment, unhurried visits, and a considered choice. In practice families often start after a hospital admission or a sudden decline, when the timescale is days rather than weeks. Even then it is reasonable to ask about a short term placement while you look properly, rather than accepting the first vacancy offered. Registering interest early with homes you like costs nothing and puts you on the waiting list.
What should we ask when visiting a care home in Hampshire?
Ask how staffing levels change overnight and at weekends, and how long the current team has worked there. Ask what happens when a resident becomes unwell, which GP practice covers the home, and how quickly relatives are contacted. Ask to see the activities that actually ran over the past fortnight rather than a sample timetable, and how residents influence what is on offer. Finally, ask what the fee includes and what is charged separately, and ask for that answer in writing.
