Care Homes in Hampshire 325 care homes · 259 rated Good by CQC

Families weighing up care homes in Hampshire will find three hundred and sixteen registered providers gathered on this page, each of them a residential care home. Inspection outcomes across the collection differ: some homes hold an Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission, others are rated Good, some are marked Requires Improvement, and a few have registered too recently to have been rated at all. Hampshire County Council is the authority responsible for carrying out a care needs assessment, which establishes what level of daily support a person actually requires, and it also completes the separate financial assessment that decides whether any part of the fees will be met from public funds. Asking for both before a placement is agreed is worth doing, whatever the likely outcome on funding. Every home listed here has its own profile, so the sensible next step is to open the ones that suit your location and budget, read the inspection report sitting behind the rating rather than the rating alone, and let what you find there shape the questions you put to the manager when you visit.

Kirtling House is a residential care home in Winchester supporting adults living with mental health conditions. This is somewhere people live rather than somewhere they have been placed, and we run the household on that basis. What helps most here is a settled environment, a structure to the week that can be relied upon, and staff who know somebody well enough to notice when things are shifting, often before the person feels able to say so. Support can include help with medication, personal care where it is needed, managing a household, budgeting, getting to appointments and taking part in ordinary life beyond these walls. Where somebody has goals of their own, whether that is work, study, seeing more of their family or simply managing more of their own affairs, we plan support that steps back as they step forward. Respite stays are available too, which can give a family carer a real break or provide a settled place to be during a difficult period. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please visit, meet the people living here and ask us whatever you need to know about how we work.

    • Care Home

Beacon House is a residential care home in Fleet, Hampshire. We are a permanent home to older people, many of whom are living with dementia, and we also offer respite stays for people needing care for a short period or whose family carer needs a rest. We help with the things that have become difficult: getting washed and dressed, moving about safely, medication given properly and on time, eating and drinking well, and having somebody nearby through the night. Where dementia is part of the picture it shapes the whole house rather than one corner of it. We keep the day recognisable, keep familiar staff around people, let residents hold on to their own belongings and habits, and sit with somebody who is upset instead of trying to argue them out of it. We want to be straightforward with you. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather say so here than have you find it somewhere else. We know what the inspectors raised with us, we are working through it, and we are willing to discuss any part of it with families and professionals. Please come and visit, at a mealtime if you can, talk to the staff on duty and ask us whatever you want to know.

    • Care Home

Park View Residential Home is a residential care home in Farnborough, Hampshire. We support older people and younger adults who need help with everyday life, including residents living with dementia and residents with mental health needs, and we offer respite stays for shorter periods. Residents here have different histories, different routines and very different ideas of a good day, so we plan support one person at a time rather than running the house on a single timetable. Help with personal care, meals, medication and appointments is given quietly and with respect for privacy, and whatever a resident can still manage themselves is protected rather than taken over. Dementia care shapes much of our work. Knowing a person's history, the people and places that matter to them and the rhythms that suit them is what allows us to reassure rather than argue when someone is unsettled. Mental health needs ask for the same patience and for noticing a change early rather than waiting for it to become a crisis, and we work alongside colleagues in local health teams where that helps. Families are welcome whenever they wish to visit and we would far rather hear about a worry while it is still small. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and we hold ourselves to it in the ordinary details of every day.

Cordwainers is a care home at Lindford in Hampshire. We provide residential care for adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Supporting somebody who has both a learning disability and a sensory impairment takes real skill. If a person cannot see or hear well, the ordinary ways of explaining what is about to happen do not work, and the world becomes unpredictable in a way that is frightening rather than merely inconvenient. So we spend serious time on communication, using touch, objects, signing or whatever fits the person, and we never assume that a lack of response means a lack of understanding. Days here are meant to have purpose in them. People have things they are working towards, places they go and activities that suit them rather than filling time. Routines are steady and changes are prepared for well in advance. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families and social workers considering a placement are welcome to visit and see how we work.

    • Care Home

Park View is a residential care home in Gosport. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss, including younger adults, and we offer respite stays. This is a house run with the people who live in it rather than around them. Residents choose how their rooms look, what they eat, how they spend their time and what part they play in the household. Cooking, shopping and laundry are things people do with support where they can, because independence grows out of doing things rather than being told about them. Practical detail matters a great deal here. The building is arranged so that people with reduced mobility or restricted sight can get about safely and independently, and our staff are trained in moving and handling and in the equipment people rely on. Where sight or hearing is affected we pay attention to lighting, contrast, sound and how we announce ourselves before doing anything. Communication takes different forms and we learn each person's, whether speech, signing, pictures, objects or the particular way somebody shows they have had enough. For autistic residents we keep routines stable and give notice of change well in advance. Gosport is home for the people who live here, and we support them to use local shops, leisure facilities and groups as part of ordinary life. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to visit.

White Hart House is a residential care home in Fareham, Hampshire, supporting adults who have a learning disability, autistic adults and people with physical disabilities, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays for people who need support for a shorter period. The people who live here call it home, and our job is to help each of them live the life they choose within it, with as much independence as they want and as much support as they need. We help with personal care where it is wanted, with cooking, laundry and shopping, with medication and appointments, and with managing money and correspondence. We also support people to get out locally, to keep up the activities they enjoy and to stay close to family and friends. Communication and routine sit at the centre of the work here. Learning how a person asks for help, how they show that they are unhappy and what settles them when a day goes badly matters more than any written policy, so we take time over it and write plans in a form the person can actually use. For residents with physical disabilities we pay close attention to mobility and to the practical arrangements that let someone do more for themselves. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and we keep asking the people living here whether this feels like their home.

    • Care Home

The Firs is a residential care home in Southampton. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia and people managing mental health conditions, and we offer respite stays. We are the size of place where everybody knows everybody. Staff know who is up early, who wants a late breakfast, who likes company and who would sooner be left alone with the radio. None of that appears in a policy, but it is most of what makes a care home somewhere a person could actually live. When somebody moves in we take time over their history. Work, family, places, music, faith, the things that shaped them. It helps us support people living with dementia, and it helps our staff see a person rather than a set of needs. Dementia care here depends on familiarity and on not rushing anyone. We keep staffing as steady as we can, avoid unnecessary change and work out what reassures a particular resident. Supporting mental health needs means patience and consistency, and working alongside community teams and GPs rather than in parallel with them. Meals are cooked here and residents tell us what they want on the menu. There is something going on most days, and no obligation to take part. Families are welcome through the day and can stay for a meal. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the home and talk to the people living in it.

    • Care Home

The Fernes is a residential care home in Fareham. We provide care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and those with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available. We aim to run a household rather than a facility. Residents bring their own furniture and photographs, keep the routines they have always had and decide for themselves how much they want to be part of what is going on. Nobody is marched off to an activity they have not chosen. When somebody moves in we spend real time on their history and preferences, from what time they wake and how they take their tea to the work they did and the people who matter to them. It is written down so that everybody working here knows it, because care that changes with whoever is on shift is not care we would accept for our own families. Dementia support rests on familiarity and pace. We keep staffing as consistent as we can, avoid unnecessary change and work out what settles a particular resident, since it is rarely the same for two people. For residents with physical disabilities we look at equipment and at how the building is arranged so that independence is protected where it can be. Meals are cooked on the premises and residents have a genuine say in the menu. Visitors are welcome through the day. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We are a residential care home in Basingstoke. Most of the people who live here are older, though we also support younger adults, and between them they bring a range of needs: dementia, mental health conditions, physical disabilities and loss of sight or hearing among them. What they share is the need for a home where help is close at hand without it taking over their lives. We try to keep ordinary life going. Residents decide how their days run, keep their own belongings and routines and are helped to stay in touch with the people and places that matter to them. Meals are cooked here and we take requests seriously. Where somebody is living with dementia, we spend time learning about their history, work, music and habits, because knowing the person is what allows staff to reassure them when they are anxious rather than simply managing the moment. Families are part of this. We would much rather you came often, asked questions and told us when something is not right than felt you were in the way. We offer respite stays as well as permanent places, which can give a relative who provides care at home a planned break. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and see us. We will show you round and be straight about whether we can meet the needs you describe.

Woodrow Cottage is a residential care home in Eastleigh, Hampshire, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Most of those living here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. We treat this as where people live rather than where they have been placed. People choose how their rooms look, have a hand in the shopping and the meals, and are involved in how the household runs. Where somebody wants a job, a course or a club, we treat that as the purpose of the support rather than an extra added onto it. Predictability matters a great deal here. For many of those living with us, knowing what is happening and who will be on shift is what makes a day workable rather than difficult, so we plan ahead and explain changes early. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather write that plainly than have a family come across it and wonder what else we left unsaid. We accept what was found and we are working through it, and we are not going to claim it is all behind us in a paragraph. If you are considering this home for someone, please visit without an appointment, talk to the people who live here and to relatives, and ask us hard questions about what has changed.

    • Care Home

New Milton House is a residential care home in New Milton, Hampshire. We are home to older people, both for the long term and for shorter respite stays when a family carer needs a rest. We keep our priorities plain. Good food, warm rooms, laundry that comes back, help when it is wanted and privacy when it is not. Residents get up and go to bed when it suits them rather than when a rota finds it convenient, and an afternoon with nothing arranged in it is a perfectly good afternoon. There is a habit in this sector of confusing busyness with quality, and we try to avoid it. What we do take real trouble over is knowing people. Their working life, their family, which chair is theirs, how they take their tea, whether they want the news on. Those details are how somebody remains a person here rather than becoming a resident, and none of them can be learned from paperwork. Respite guests are properly welcomed rather than merely accommodated. We ask beforehand how the person likes things done, because a short stay leaves no time to learn it gradually. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Families are welcome to arrive unannounced and see us on an ordinary day, which is the only visit that tells you anything.

The Gables is a residential care home in Southampton. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for families needing a planned break. This is meant to run like a home rather than a shift pattern. People wake when they wake, eat when they are hungry, and spend the day as they choose. An uneventful afternoon is not a failure. Dementia care here rests on knowing people. We ask families for the history, the working life, the places and the music, because those are what still connect when much else has slipped. Without them we would be managing a condition rather than keeping company with a person, and residents notice the difference even when they cannot name it. Somebody here for a fortnight deserves to be properly known in that fortnight. We ask in advance how they like things done, because a short stay leaves no time to work it out gradually. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. We would far rather a relative raised a problem with us this week than mentioned it in a review next month.

Most of the people here are younger adults, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Because we support that spread of people, we do not run the house to one timetable. Somebody may be out at college, work or a club during the week. Somebody else may need the day laid out exactly the same way each time in order to feel safe. Both are accommodated and neither is treated as more deserving than the other. Support here is agreed with the person rather than written about them, and set out in language the person can read. Staff are matched to people with some thought. When something is not working we change it rather than defending it. Where a plan involves a degree of risk, we start from how it might be made to work, because a life with all the risk removed is not much of a life. Gosport sits on the water with Portsmouth across the harbour, and we make use of what is around us rather than keeping people indoors. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. The Oaks is a residential care home in Havant, Hampshire. We support older people who need help through the day, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with a physical disability, and people who are blind, partially sighted, deaf or hard of hearing. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Running a home with that mix takes more thought than running one where everybody is alike, because no single routine will do. So we work out what each person's day ought to look like and then make the house fit around it rather than the other way round. One resident may want early meals and quiet evenings. Another may be out at a day service and back late with shopping and opinions. Both are reasonable. Access and communication get real attention here. Where sight or hearing has gone, an ordinary building starts working against a person, so we think about light, contrast, noise, signage and how staff approach somebody. Where information is taken in differently, we use pictures, write things down, slow down and check rather than assume. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and visit, and please spend some of the time talking to the people who live here rather than only to staff.

    • Care Home

Cloverdale is a residential care home in Alton supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays. We run this as a household rather than a service with bedrooms attached. People choose how their rooms look, what they eat, when they get up and how much of the day they spend in company. Those choices are not an extra laid on top of the care. They are most of what makes a place worth living in, and they take consistent effort to protect when staff change and pressures build. Support is planned around what each person wants to be able to do rather than only around risk. Cooking, shopping, managing money, using the bus, getting to college, work or activities, and keeping up with family and friends. Where somebody needs a great deal of help, we still look hard for the parts they can take on themselves, because independence disappears quietly unless someone is watching for it. Communication and environment get real attention. We learn how each person tells us what they want, including those who use little or no speech, and we adjust to them rather than the reverse. Noise, lighting, predictability and having somewhere quiet to retreat to all shape how a day turns out. Respite stays give families a break and give the person staying somewhere settled and properly set up. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch to visit.

    • Care Home

Rivers Reach is a residential care home in Fareham supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays. This is somebody's home before it is anything else. People choose how their rooms look, what they eat, when they get up and how much of the day they spend in company. Those choices are most of what makes a place worth living in, and they take steady effort to protect when staff change and pressures build. Support is planned around what each person wants to be able to do rather than only around risk. Cooking, shopping, managing money, using the bus, getting to college, work or activities, and keeping up with family and friends. Where somebody needs a great deal of help, we still look hard for the parts they can take on themselves, because independence disappears quietly unless somebody is watching for it. Communication and environment get real attention. We learn how each person tells us what they want, including those who use little or no speech, and we adapt to them rather than the reverse. Noise, lighting, predictability and having somewhere quiet to retreat to all shape how good a day somebody has. Respite stays give families a break and give the person staying somewhere settled and properly set up. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch to visit.

    • Care Home

Primrose House is a residential care home in Farnborough. We provide care for older people and also support adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and younger adults. Respite stays are available too. Having residents of different ages and needs living together works better than people often expect, provided it is thought about rather than left to chance. Older residents frequently enjoy the company and a bit of life about the place, and younger residents benefit from a settled household rather than an institutional one. What makes it work is not assuming everybody wants the same things. Meals, routines, outings and how much say somebody wants over their own decisions get worked out person by person. For residents with a learning disability or who are autistic, we treat the environment itself as part of the support. Noise, lighting, how predictable the day is, and whether there is somewhere quiet to go when everything becomes too much. We also learn how each person communicates, including those who use little or no speech. Respite stays are available for planned breaks and at shorter notice, and short stay residents are part of the household rather than guests. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit Primrose House.

    • Care Home

19 Forest Road is a small residential home in Bordon, Hampshire, and the first thing worth saying is that it is a house on a road, not an institution. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. The people who live here are mostly younger adults, and for them this is home in the full sense of the word, not a placement. Because we are small, life here is not run to a timetable. People get up when they get up. The kitchen is used by the people who live in the house, not kept behind a door. Someone might be at college, someone might have a job or a volunteering day, someone might be out at a club or a gym, and someone might want a quiet week indoors. All of those are acceptable ways to live and none of them needs justifying to us. Our job is support, which means doing things with people rather than to them or for them. Budgeting, cooking, travel, appointments, keeping in touch with family, managing the parts of the world that are set up for a different kind of brain. Where someone needs routines and predictability to feel safe, we hold those routines carefully. We also offer respite, which gives families a break and gives the person a stay somewhere they get to know. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Do come and meet the people who live here.

    • Care Home

Corbiere is a residential home in Bordon, Hampshire. We support adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, and adults with a physical disability. Most of the people here are younger adults, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. This is a home rather than an institution, and that distinction drives most of what we do. People have their own rooms and their own belongings and a real say in how a week looks. Support plans are agreed with the person and written in language the person can actually read. Staff are matched to people with some thought rather than allocated to whoever is on shift. Where a learning disability sits alongside a physical disability, the practical side of life takes real planning. Equipment, access, transport, and the time to let somebody do a thing themselves rather than having it done for them because it is faster. We treat that time as part of the job, not as a luxury for quiet days. Days here vary and are meant to. College, work, volunteering, the gym, family, or a deliberately quiet stretch at home. Where somebody needs predictability in order to feel safe, we hold it consistently. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Come and meet the people who live here and ask them what it is like.

    • Care Home

Badgers Holt is a residential care home in Southampton for older people who need help with daily living, including many people living with dementia. We offer respite stays as well as permanent places. We are a house rather than an institution and we work to keep it feeling that way. People bring their own furniture and photographs, keep their own hours, choose where to spend the day and get help with washing and dressing at their own pace and as privately as we can manage. Meals are cooked here with real choice at each one, and food matters a great deal to how people feel about a day. Dementia care here rests on familiarity and patience. We learn a person's life story with their family when they arrive and keep adding to it, so that when words become harder we still have ways of offering comfort and recognition, and we keep the rhythm of the day predictable because that does more good than any amount of organised activity. We keep an eye on health without turning the place into a clinic. If somebody seems off colour we act on it early, involve the surgery and the district nurses, and tell families what is happening rather than waiting for them to ask. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated the home good overall. Anyone thinking about a move is welcome to visit and talk to the people who live here.

    • Care Home

Elizabethlodge is a residential care home in Gosport, Hampshire. We provide a home for people living with dementia and we also offer respite stays, whether to give a family carer a rest or to provide a settled place for somebody for a shorter period. Dementia care is what we do, and we have built the way we work around it. Consistency is what helps most. Familiar faces, routines that change only when there is a reason, and the patience to sit with somebody rather than hurry them. We take time to understand what a person is expressing even when the words have become unreliable, and we treat distress as communication rather than as behaviour to be managed. People keep their own furniture and photographs, and we ask families in detail about history, habits and preferences, because that information is often what makes the present make sense. We want this to feel like a house people live in. Residents are helped up when they wake rather than to suit a rota, eat food they actually recognise and enjoy, and spend their days in company or in peace according to what suits them. Families are welcome whenever it works for them and we would rather raise something early than wait to be asked. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep examining the detail rather than assuming it holds on its own. If you are considering a home in Gosport for a relative living with dementia, please come and visit and ask us anything.

    • Care Home

Bere Grove Care Home is a residential care home in Waterlooville, Hampshire. We provide residential care for older people, for adults living with dementia and for younger adults who need this kind of support. We help with the practical things: washing and dressing, meals, medication, keeping safe on the stairs and about the house. What we try not to do is take over. If somebody can still make their own tea, choose their own clothes or walk to the lounge unaided, that is theirs to keep, and our help is there for the parts that have become difficult. A good deal of our work involves dementia. The lesson it keeps teaching us is that steadiness helps and hurry does not. Familiar faces, the same order to the day, patience when a conversation has to be had three times over. We ask families to tell us who the person has been, not only what they now need, because that is what allows us to be useful on a difficult day. Meals are cooked here, visitors are welcome through the day, and we keep in regular touch with general practitioners and community teams so that health problems are caught early. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet been given an overall rating. If you are looking at residential care near Waterlooville, you would be very welcome to visit and see how the home runs.

Applewood Care Home is a residential care home in Basingstoke, Hampshire. We provide a home for older people, including many living with dementia, and we also support some younger adults and offer respite stays for shorter periods of care. We want this to feel like somewhere people live rather than somewhere people have been placed. Residents bring their own furniture and photographs, keep their own routines and decide how the day runs. Some are up early and want company and conversation straight away. Others want their own room, a newspaper and a quiet afternoon. Neither needs explaining to us, and we plan around the person rather than around what suits a rota. Supporting people living with dementia is a large part of what we do, and steadiness is what helps most. Familiar faces, routines that change only when there is a reason, patience when words are hard to find, and a real effort to understand what somebody means rather than what they managed to say. Families are closely involved because they often hold the history that makes sense of the present. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. It reflects reliable everyday practice, which is what most families are genuinely looking for. • Care Home

Caird Avenue is a small residential care home in New Milton, Hampshire, supporting younger adults with learning disabilities and autistic people. The people who live here are at a point in life when having a say in things counts for a great deal, and widening that say is most of what we are for. We talk with each resident about what they want their week to contain, what they would like to learn to manage themselves, where they want to go and who they want to see, and then we work out the support that makes those things possible. Communication is where we begin. We learn how each person expresses themselves and prefers to be approached, including residents who use little or no speech, and the adjusting is ours to do. For autistic residents, sensory comfort and a predictable environment are fundamental, and we prepare people properly for changes instead of springing them. Independence here is built in small, concrete steps: a meal cooked, money handled in a shop, a local journey made without someone else organising it, an arrangement made directly with a friend or relative. It is slow work and the progress belongs to the resident. We work closely with families, advocates and community teams, and we treat this as the residents' home first and foremost. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. We would welcome a visit and are happy to answer questions in detail.

Arranging and funding a care home place in Hampshire

Money and eligibility shape almost everything that follows, including which of the 325 care homes listed on this page are realistically within reach. Two separate pieces of assessment work sit behind most placements, and both are worth starting early, because homes with a strong local reputation can hold waiting lists.

Asking for a care needs assessment

Anyone who appears to need care and support can ask their local authority for an assessment, whatever their savings. A social care practitioner looks at daily living, mobility, medication, memory, and the risks a person faces at home, then records the level of support needed. Where residential care is the right answer, the assessment produces a care and support plan that any home can work from. Relatives acting for someone who cannot easily speak for themselves can ask to take part, and an advocate can be arranged where there is nobody else to fill that role.

Where Hampshire County Council fits in

Funded support follows a financial assessment carried out by Hampshire County Council once care needs have been agreed. Capital and income are both taken into account, and the outcome decides whether the council contributes towards fees, whether the person pays in full, or whether a deferred payment arrangement secured against a property would help. Even where someone is clearly funding their own care, the council still owes a duty to provide information and advice, so the process is rarely wasted effort.

Understanding what the fees cover

Weekly fees differ from one Hampshire home to the next and depend on the room, the level of personal care agreed, and whether any nursing input is involved. Ask each home for a written schedule showing what the fee includes and what is billed separately, since hairdressing, chiropody, and outings are often charged on top. Where a family prefers a home costing more than the council will pay, a third party contribution may be required, and that commitment has to stay affordable for the long term.

Choosing between care homes in Hampshire

Reading inspection outcomes properly

Ratings across this collection run from Outstanding through Good and Requires Improvement, alongside homes registered too recently to carry a judgement yet. Jasmine House, Sansa House, and The Conifers are among those holding Outstanding, while a Good rating still means the home met the standards the Care Quality Commission expects. Check the date of the inspection and read the findings on safety and leadership rather than the headline alone, because a judgement made some years ago describes the home as it was then, not necessarily as it is now.

What a visit should tell you

Arrange to visit at a busy point in the day, ideally around a mealtime, and notice whether residents look occupied and whether staff greet them by name. Ask how many carers are on duty overnight, how the home responds to a fall or a sudden illness, and how quickly families hear about it. Questions about staff turnover deserve a direct answer, because continuity of carers shapes daily life far more than furnishings do.

Matching the home to the person

Some homes in Hampshire are large purpose built settings for older people, while others are ordinary houses supporting a handful of adults with learning disabilities or autism. Think about the routine that would suit the person moving in, the distance relatives can travel comfortably and often, and whether the home could go on meeting needs as they change.

Frequently asked questions about care homes in Hampshire

How do we arrange a care needs assessment in Hampshire?

Contact adult social care at Hampshire County Council and ask for a care needs assessment for the person concerned. The assessment can take place at home or on a hospital ward, and there is no charge for it whatever the household savings. A practitioner will look at daily tasks, mobility, health conditions, and the support already in place, then set out what is needed. If residential care is recommended, the resulting plan gives every home you approach a clear description of the support required.

Can Hampshire County Council pay for a care home placement?

It can, where the care needs assessment shows residential care is required and the financial assessment shows the person cannot meet the full cost themselves. Capital and income are both considered, and any contribution is worked out individually rather than by a fixed rule. Where the council agrees to fund a place, it normally pays up to a level it considers sufficient to meet assessed needs, and a top up may be needed for a more expensive home. Deferred payment agreements are also possible in some circumstances where a property is involved.

Which providers offer residential care in Hampshire?

This page gathers three hundred and sixteen registered care homes across Hampshire, all of them residential settings inspected by the Care Quality Commission. They run from large homes for older people to small houses supporting adults with learning disabilities or autism. Each entry links to a profile showing the provider details and the current rating. Narrowing by location first, then by rating, is usually the quickest way to build a shortlist worth visiting.

What is the difference between a residential care home and a nursing home?

A residential care home provides personal care, meaning help with washing, dressing, medication, meals, and the shape of the day. A nursing home offers that same support with qualified nurses on site, which matters where there are complex medical needs such as wounds, feeding tubes, or unstable conditions. The homes collected on this page are registered for residential care. If a setting with nursing cover is needed, the care needs assessment should say so, and it saves time to establish that before booking visits.

How far ahead should we start looking at care homes in Hampshire?

Beginning a few months ahead is ideal, since it leaves room for an assessment, unhurried visits, and a considered choice. In practice families often start after a hospital admission or a sudden decline, when the timescale is days rather than weeks. Even then it is reasonable to ask about a short term placement while you look properly, rather than accepting the first vacancy offered. Registering interest early with homes you like costs nothing and puts you on the waiting list.

What should we ask when visiting a care home in Hampshire?

Ask how staffing levels change overnight and at weekends, and how long the current team has worked there. Ask what happens when a resident becomes unwell, which GP practice covers the home, and how quickly relatives are contacted. Ask to see the activities that actually ran over the past fortnight rather than a sample timetable, and how residents influence what is on offer. Finally, ask what the fee includes and what is charged separately, and ask for that answer in writing.
