Families weighing up care homes in Hampshire will find three hundred and sixteen registered providers gathered on this page, each of them a residential care home. Inspection outcomes across the collection differ: some homes hold an Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission, others are rated Good, some are marked Requires Improvement, and a few have registered too recently to have been rated at all. Hampshire County Council is the authority responsible for carrying out a care needs assessment, which establishes what level of daily support a person actually requires, and it also completes the separate financial assessment that decides whether any part of the fees will be met from public funds. Asking for both before a placement is agreed is worth doing, whatever the likely outcome on funding. Every home listed here has its own profile, so the sensible next step is to open the ones that suit your location and budget, read the inspection report sitting behind the rating rather than the rating alone, and let what you find there shape the questions you put to the manager when you visit.

- Care Home
Our home at 85 Highfield Avenue in Aldershot is a small residential care home. We support adults with learning disabilities and autism, adults with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss, including younger adults, alongside older people who need residential care. Because the household is small, staff know everybody here properly, including the things that never make it into a care plan: who wants an early start, who needs plenty of notice before anything changes, who likes company and who would sooner be left in peace. That knowledge is what makes the place work on an ordinary day. The people who live here decide how their rooms look, what is on the shopping list, how the week is shaped and what they do with it. Support might mean personal care, help with medication, a hand with money and appointments, or practical assistance to get out to college, work, clubs or simply the shops. Where somebody uses signs, symbols or their own particular way of making themselves understood, our staff learn it, and we never make a decision about a person without a real effort to include them in it. Respite stays are available as well, giving families a planned break and giving the person staying some different company. If you are looking for a placement in the area, please contact us. We are happy to arrange a visit and we will be honest about whether we are the right fit.

Bere Grove is a residential care home in Waterlooville, Hampshire, caring for older people including those living with dementia, and we also support younger adults. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Much of what makes a care home good is ordinary and repeated every day. Food people actually look forward to. Mornings that are not rushed. Staff who remember who takes sugar, who likes the window open early and who would rather the television stayed off. We put our effort into those details because they are what residents experience. Residents decide how to spend their days. Some enjoy the sociable end of the house and whatever is going on, others prefer their own room, their books and the garden view, and both are entirely acceptable here. Rooms belong to the people in them, and we encourage families to bring furniture and pictures from home. For people living with dementia, consistency and familiarity do more good than anything else we could buy. We keep routines steady and faces familiar, and we ask families to tell us about the person's life so our team can respond to the feeling behind a question rather than correcting the facts. Families are welcome and we would much rather you visited often and told us when something was not right. Please get in touch if you would like to look round.

Osborne Lodge Rest Home is a residential care home in New Milton, Hampshire, caring for older people, with respite stays available alongside permanent places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Much of what makes a care home good is ordinary and repeated every day. Food people actually look forward to. Mornings that are not rushed. Staff who remember who takes sugar, who wants the crossword and who would rather the television stayed off. We put our effort into those details, because they are what residents experience. Residents decide how to spend their days. Some enjoy the sociable end of the house and whatever is going on, others prefer their own room, their books and a view of the garden, and both are entirely acceptable here. Rooms belong to the people in them, and we encourage families to bring furniture and pictures that make a space feel like somebody's own. Our team is encouraged to know residents as people, which means knowing about working lives, families and the places they have lived. That knowledge is what makes care personal, and it is also what helps us notice quickly when someone is unwell. Respite stays often follow a hospital admission or give a family carer a genuine rest. If you are considering care for yourself or a relative, please come and look round and take your time.

We are Heartland Manor, a residential care home in Brockenhurst, Hampshire. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available. That is a wide range of needs living under one roof, and it only works if we plan properly. Somebody who wants a sociable, busy day and somebody who needs quiet and an entirely predictable routine can both live well here, provided we pay attention to who needs what and when. So we ask, we observe, and we adapt rather than running everyone to the same timetable. The help itself covers personal care, medication, meals and mobility, and we give proper attention to access and communication where those matter. We are just as concerned with supporting what people can still do themselves, because independence lost unnecessarily is very hard to get back. Families and friends are welcome at any reasonable hour. We keep relatives informed about changes rather than waiting to be asked. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please ring us if you would like to look round.

We are a residential care home in Alton, Hampshire, providing a home for older people and for younger adults who need support with daily life, including people living with dementia. We also offer respite stays for people who need care for a period rather than permanently. A care home is somebody's home, not a ward, and we try to keep that clear in how we run the place. People bring their own belongings and keep their own habits. Families come and go rather than visiting at set times. Where someone needs help with washing, dressing, medication or moving about, it is given in a way that respects them, and where they can manage alone we leave them to it. We would rather be open with you about our regulatory position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are working through what was raised and we do not want anybody to find that out after they have made a decision. If you are looking at us for someone in your family, ask about it and we will tell you exactly what is being done. The most useful thing you can do is come and see the place, talk to staff and see how people here seem. Please contact us and we will arrange a visit at a time that works for you.

- Care Home
Woodlands Care Home is a residential care home in Waterlooville, Hampshire. We look after older people who need daily care and a place where they can settle, including many people living with dementia and people living with mental health conditions. The house runs at a human pace. People get up and go to bed when they want to, eat food they recognise and enjoy, and spend their days in whatever way suits them. For someone living with dementia, that steadiness is the care, as much as anything clinical we do. Families are welcome at any reasonable hour, and we would much rather relatives felt able to drop in than had to book a visit. We also offer respite stays, whether that is to give a family carer a proper rest or to support someone through a period of recovery before they go back home. We know where we fell short of the standard we want for the people living here, and we are working through those areas with our team rather than waiting for the next inspection to tell us again. If you are considering us for someone in your family, ask us about it directly. We will give you a straight answer and show you what has changed. You are welcome to visit and see the home as it is on an ordinary day.

- Care Home
Daffodils is a residential care home in Bordon, Hampshire, for adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. Most of the people who live here are younger adults. We are a house rather than an institution, and being small is the point. Staff get to know the people they support properly, which is worth more than any written plan, and the household runs around the people living in it instead of around a rota. People have their own rooms and their own belongings, a real say in what gets cooked and what happens at the weekend, and they decide who comes to visit. A home for younger adults has to be about building a life rather than winding one down. So we talk about work and college, money, cooking, travel, relationships and independence, and we expect people to take on more over time rather than less. For autistic residents especially, predictability does most of the work. Routines that hold, clear information, honest notice before anything changes and genuine choice prevent far more distress than any reaction after the event. Where somebody is having a hard time, we look first at what is being asked of them. Respite stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. - Care Home
Blackbrook House Care Home is a residential home in Fareham, Hampshire, caring for older people, including many who are living with dementia. We offer permanent residential care and shorter respite stays, so we can help when living at home has stopped feeling safe, when a family carer needs a proper break, or when someone needs time to regain their confidence after a hospital admission. Moving into a home is a significant step, and we try never to treat it as routine, because for the person and the family it very rarely is. Our care begins with the person's own history and habits. We ask about the work someone did, the places they lived, the food they actually like, the routines that make a day feel right and what still worries them, and we build their support around those answers. For residents with dementia this matters even more, so we keep familiar faces around them, allow plenty of time and look for the reason behind distress rather than simply settling it. Meals are cooked here and we take requests seriously. There is company for those who want it and quiet for those who do not, and relatives are welcome to visit through the day, stay for a cup of tea or join in with whatever is going on. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are looking at homes around Fareham, please come and see ours and ask us anything you like.

Netley House is a residential care home in Farnborough. We support adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and people living with mental health conditions, including eating disorders, and many of the people living here are younger adults. What we offer is a settled household and support shaped around the person. People here are not passing through a programme, they are living their lives, and our job is to back that up with as much independence as somebody wants and can manage. For one person that means support close at hand through the day; for another it means being left to get on with things, knowing help is there when they ask. We take time to understand how each person communicates and what matters to them, because support that is not built on that is only supervision. We also offer respite stays, which can give a family carer a genuine break and give the person staying a change of scene with support they can rely on. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet been given an overall rating. Until we are, we would rather you came and saw the house for yourself and spoke to the people living here. - Care Home
Durlands Road is a care home in Horndean, providing residential care for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, including younger adults, and offering respite stays. We run the house as a home. People choose how their own rooms look, have a say in meals and shopping, and decide what to do with their own time. Support turns up for the parts of life that are genuinely difficult and stays out of the way of the parts that are not, which is a harder balance to hold than it sounds and matters more than almost anything else we do. For younger adults in particular, this is often a first move away from the family home. That is a big step for everyone concerned, so we take it in stages. Visits, overnight stays, plenty of contact with family, and no pressure to commit before it feels right. Families are welcome here afterwards too, as often as everyone wants. Autistic adults are poorly served by unpredictability, so we keep our staff team steady, explain changes in advance and pay attention to the sensory side of the environment as well as the social one. Respite stays are planned with the same care as a permanent move. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are looking at options in Hampshire, please come and see the house on a normal day and ask us anything.

- Care Home
Broadmead is a rest home in Newbury caring for older people, including those living with dementia or mental ill health, and younger adults who need residential support. We are a domestic sort of place rather than an institutional one. Help with washing, dressing, mobility and medication is given quietly and at the time that suits the person, and we take trouble to learn how somebody has always run their day before they move in. Those preferences are written down and staff are expected to follow them. For people living with dementia we keep the day familiar and unhurried, and we use what families tell us about the life behind the person to hold a conversation and to steady things when somebody is anxious. Where mental ill health is part of the picture we work closely with community teams and include the person properly in decisions about their own care. Meals are cooked on the premises and served without hurry. Visitors are welcome whenever they want to come, and we would far rather hear a concern early than late. Short respite stays are available, often to give a carer at home a proper rest or to help somebody regain their footing after a spell in hospital. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the house on an ordinary day.

- Care Home
Willow Tree Lodge is a care home in Basingstoke, providing residential care for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, along with respite stays. We keep the house small deliberately. A handful of people sharing a home can know one another, recognise every member of staff, and have a real say in how the place runs. Large settings make promises about choice that the scale itself quietly undermines. The people living here decide how their rooms look, take part in the shopping and cooking, and choose what to do with their days. Our role is to be useful where things are genuinely difficult and to keep out of the way where they are not, because independence is eroded far more often by well meaning help than by neglect. Life outside the house matters as much as life inside it. Work, college, clubs, friendships, family. Basingstoke has plenty to get involved in, and we treat keeping those connections going as part of the support rather than something for spare capacity. For autistic adults, predictability makes an enormous difference, so we protect the consistency of the staff team and give notice of changes rather than springing them. Respite stays are prepared with visits beforehand, at the pace of the person coming. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and see the house on an ordinary day and ask us whatever you like.

Here at Dimensions 21 Searing Way, we are a care home based in Tadley, Hampshire, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism. We also offer respite care, providing vital short breaks for both the people we support and their families. We specialise in creating a home where people feel genuinely comfortable and valued. Our approach is built around getting to know each person properly, understanding their routines, their preferences, and what matters most to them in their daily lives. We do not believe in a one size fits all approach. Everyone who lives with us or stays with us for respite has their own story, and we work hard to make sure our support reflects that. Our team has a strong understanding of the complexities that can come with learning disabilities and autism, and we put a great deal of thought into how we communicate with people, how we structure the environment, and how we respond when someone is having a difficult time. We want the people in our care to feel safe, understood, and as independent as possible. We are proud to hold a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission, which we see as a reflection of the consistency and thoughtfulness our team brings to the work every day. We are always looking at how we can improve and grow, and we welcome honest conversations with the people we support, their families, and anyone involved in their care. If you are considering Dimensions 21 Searing Way for yourself or a loved one, we would encourage you to come and visit us in Tadley and see the home for yourself. We are always happy to answer questions and to help families feel confident that they are making the right choice.

- Care Home
We at Ling Crescent are proud to offer a warm and welcoming residential care home in the peaceful village of Headley Down, Hampshire, where adults with learning disabilities and autism can truly feel at home. Our house sits within a quiet residential setting, benefitting from the calm surroundings and gentle pace of life that this corner of the South East is known for. Nestled in the GU postcode area, our home has been thoughtfully designed to provide a comfortable and homely environment. The residential setting allows our residents to enjoy the tranquillity of village life whilst remaining well connected to the wider community. Familiar surroundings, personal touches, and shared communal spaces help create the sense of belonging that makes a house feel like a home. Our specialism lies in supporting adults, including younger adults, who live with learning disabilities and autism. We understand that every individual we welcome through our doors has their own story, their own preferences, and their own aspirations. That is why our approach centres on person led support, taking the time to understand what matters most to each resident and building daily routines around their interests, communication styles, and personal goals. Whether that means encouraging independence in everyday tasks, supporting hobbies and community activities, or simply providing a reassuring presence during quieter moments, we aim to make every day meaningful. We also offer respite care, giving families and regular carers the opportunity to take a well deserved break with the confidence that their loved one is being cared for in a familiar, supportive environment. Respite stays can be a valuable way for new residents and their families to get to know us, and we work closely with everyone involved to ensure the experience is comfortable, positive, and tailored to individual needs. Following our most recent inspection in July 2023, the Care Quality Commission rated us Good overall, with Good ratings across the Safe, Caring, Responsive, and Well led domains. Our Effective rating was noted as Requires Improvement, and we take this feedback seriously as part of our ongoing commitment to learning and development. For families, these ratings offer independent reassurance that safeguarding, compassionate support, responsiveness to individual needs, and strong leadership are firmly embedded in the way we work every day. Choosing the right home for a loved one is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we recognise the trust that this places in us. If you are exploring residential or respite options for an adult with a learning disability or autism in the Headley Down area, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please get in touch to arrange a visit, ask questions, or simply have a friendly chat about how we may be able to support your family.

The Laurels is a residential care home in Hedge End, Hampshire, supporting adults living with learning disabilities and autism and adults with physical disabilities, including younger adults. Physical disability alongside a learning disability is often treated as a problem of equipment, and equipment matters, but the more important question is what somebody actually wants their life to contain and what stands between them and it. Sometimes that is a hoist or a wheelchair. Just as often it is transport, timing, or staff willing to plan an outing properly rather than decide it is too complicated. We support people with personal care, mobility, medication and the practical parts of the day, and we work with them on the skills that widen their options. Communication is planned around each individual, because being properly understood is what makes choice real rather than theoretical. Respite stays are available for short periods of support or to give a family carer a planned break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and visitors are welcome.

Sea Breeze is a residential care home on Hayling Island supporting adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with a physical disability and people living with sight or hearing loss, including many younger adults. We are a house rather than a unit, and the people living here have a real say in how it is run. Support is planned individually because the needs here vary so widely. Some residents want help through most of the day, including personal care and help to move safely, while others need little of that but rely on us for routine, encouragement and staff who understand how they communicate. We take our time working that out and we ask the people who know a person well. Daily life covers the ordinary things: cooking, shopping, laundry, keeping your own room as you want it and choosing how to spend the weekend. Being by the sea means getting out for air and a walk is part of normal life here rather than an occasion. The right equipment and training are in place for residents with physical support needs, and where somebody has sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate and do not move things without saying so. Respite stays are available and give family carers a genuine break. Please contact us if you would like to come and see the house.

Oakside is a residential care home in New Milton, Hampshire, supporting adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Most of the people who live here are younger adults. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. What sits behind that is not remarkable so much as steady: staff who stay long enough to know the people they support properly, time allowed to do things at the person's pace, and a willingness to say plainly when something needs putting right. A home for younger adults has to be about building a life rather than winding one down. So we talk about work and college, money, cooking, travel, relationships and independence, and we expect people to take on more over time rather than less. For autistic residents especially, predictability does most of the work. Routines that hold, clear information, honest notice before anything changes and attention to sensory demands prevent far more distress than any reaction afterwards. Sight and hearing loss get the same practical attention, beginning with how we communicate. Respite stays are available and can be a sensible way of finding out whether we suit somebody. The Mullion is a residential care home in Horndean supporting a mixed group of adults. Some of our residents are older people who need help with the practical parts of the day. Others are adults with a learning disability, autistic adults or people with a physical disability, and many are younger adults who want support to run their own lives. Planning for individuals is what makes that work. One person may want help to wash and dress and then to be left alone. Another may want staff alongside them cooking, going out locally, getting to an appointment or working through a problem. Both are equally at home here. We pay attention to how each person communicates, what they find difficult and what helps them settle, and we build the plan with them and with the people who know them well. Where somebody needs help to move about safely the right equipment is in place and our staff are trained for it. Everyday life includes cooking, shopping, keeping your own room as you want it, choosing how to spend the day and getting out into the village and beyond. Respite stays are available and give family carers a genuine break while the person has a proper stay with us. Visitors are welcome. Please contact us if you would like to look round.

Downs House is a care home in Petersfield, Hampshire. We provide residential care for older people, including people living with dementia and people with a physical disability, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Getting outside is something we take seriously rather than treat as weather permitting. A walk, a seat in the fresh air or simply a change of view does more for somebody's mood, appetite and sleep than most of what can be organised indoors. Nobody here should spend the day in the same chair because taking them out would have been an effort, and equally nobody should be marched into the garden who would rather be left in peace. Indoors, the day belongs to the residents. They decide when to get up, what to eat and how much company they want. Rooms belong to the people in them, and visitors come when it suits them. For people living with dementia, familiarity carries most of the weight: the same faces, a recognisable rhythm and staff who understand what lies behind restlessness. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and look round if you are considering care in this part of Hampshire.

Brook Lane Rest Home is a residential care home in Southampton for older people, including those living with dementia. We are not a nursing home, so what we do well is personal care, a settled daily rhythm and knowing everybody who lives here as a person rather than a set of needs. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and anything else that has become difficult, at the pace of the person rather than the pace of a rota. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they sit, what they eat and whether they want company or a quiet afternoon on their own. For residents living with dementia we keep the surroundings familiar and the staff consistent, explain what is happening as we go and try to work out what is behind a change in mood instead of treating it as a symptom. Families usually know a person better than any assessment, and what they tell us shapes how we work. Mealtimes matter here. Food is cooked on the premises, we ask people what they actually fancy and nobody is hurried along. Respite stays are available, whether to give a family carer a break, to help somebody build strength back up after illness or to let a person see what living here is like before making a longer decision. You are welcome to visit, look round and ask us whatever you want to know.

We are Cornfields, a residential care home in Basingstoke, Hampshire, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. We offer permanent places and respite stays. A home for a small number of people allows support to be genuinely individual rather than a compromise between competing demands. Staff here know everybody properly, including a great deal that never appears in a care plan, such as which sounds are unbearable on a difficult day and which subject will always improve one. We treat autism as something that shapes how a person experiences the place they live rather than as a line at the top of a file. Predictability matters. The sensory environment matters. Saying what is going to happen and when, and then being right about it, does more than any amount of reassurance, and when those things go wrong nothing else we do compensates for it. People here make their own choices and do as much for themselves as they can, with help offered rather than assumed. Families and advocates are involved to whatever extent the person wants, and respite guests visit beforehand where possible so that arriving is familiar rather than a shock. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

We are Albany Farm Care (Hampshire), a residential care home in Fareham. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and people living with a mental health condition, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. The people we support often have needs that overlap in ways the usual categories do not capture. Somebody may have a learning disability and be managing a mental health condition too, and support that deals with only one of those will not hold up for long. So we plan around the person and spend time finding out what actually helps on a good day and on a difficult one. Consistency does most of the work here. Familiar staff, a routine somebody can rely on, information given in a form they can genuinely use, and people who do not take a bad day personally. Where a routine matters we protect it rather than asking for flexibility that happens to suit us. Choice runs through the day as far as it can, and where a decision needs support we support it rather than making it. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

We are Deerhurst, a residential care home in New Milton, Hampshire. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people managing a mental health condition, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we offer respite stays. A home with that mix of people in it cannot run on one routine, and we do not try to make it. What works instead is knowing each person well enough that their day makes sense to them. The skill is holding all of it together without anybody's needs being quietly traded away for somebody else's. Communication is where we start with every new resident. How does this person make themselves understood, and how do we make ourselves understood to them. We settle that early, use it consistently, and check that it is working rather than assuming. Predictability does much of the rest, together with familiar staff and routines we protect rather than ask people to be flexible about. Choice runs through the day as far as it can, with help offered rather than imposed. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

We are The RedHouse Care Home in Fareham, Hampshire. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, people managing a mental health condition and people with a physical disability, and we also offer respite stays. Residential care means supporting people with the parts of daily life that have become difficult while leaving the rest where it belongs. For health needs beyond our registration we work alongside district nurses and GPs, and we are straightforward with families about where that line falls. Dementia takes up much of our day, and what helps most is knowing the person. Their history, their working life, the routines they have kept for decades. Someone distressed almost always has a reason for it, and the reason is more often practical than people expect. Where a mental health condition is part of the picture too, the same principles apply: consistency, staff who do not take a bad day personally, and a routine that is there to lean on rather than to enforce. Respite guests are assessed and welcomed exactly as permanent residents are. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Belmont Castle provides residential care in Havant for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. We also take planned respite stays. We try to make this feel like a home rather than somewhere people have been placed. Residents get up when they want, spend their days as they choose, keep their own belongings about them and have visitors whenever it suits them. Our staff help with personal care, medicines, meals and the practical running of the place, and they do it in a way that leaves people as much say as possible over their own lives. The small things are what residents notice. A familiar face on shift, tea made the way you like it, being asked rather than told, and somebody spotting that you are not quite yourself today. For residents living with dementia that familiarity matters far more than any programme of organised activity, and where somebody has a physical disability we agree together how they want to be helped and how much time they need rather than how much time is convenient. Respite stays give family carers a genuine rest, and they let somebody find out what we are like before making a bigger decision. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask residents and relatives regularly how we are doing.

Otterbourne Grange Residential Care Home provides residential care near Winchester for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia. We also take planned respite stays. We are a home rather than an institution, and most of what we do is ordinary. Helping people wash and dress, seeing that medicines are taken properly, cooking meals people actually want to eat, keeping an eye on health, and making sure nobody spends the day waiting for somebody to speak to them. Residents get up when they choose, spend their time as they wish, keep their own things around them and have visitors whenever it suits. For residents living with dementia, familiarity does most of the work. The same faces, a recognisable shape to the day, and time to do things at the pace somebody can manage. We work with what a person can still do rather than treating the diagnosis as the whole story, and we know a calm unhurried approach prevents far more distress than it costs in time. Respite stays are genuinely useful. A planned stay gives a family carer proper rest, and it lets somebody find out what we are like without committing to anything longer. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask residents and relatives how we are doing, and we act on what they tell us.

- Care Home
Willow Tree Lodge is a residential care home in Fareham, Hampshire, caring for older people, including many living with dementia. Families usually reach us tired. The decision to move a relative into a care home is rarely taken lightly and often follows a long stretch of managing at home with too little help. One of the most useful things we can do early is take some of that weight off, be honest about what we can and cannot offer, and make it possible for a daughter or a husband to go back to being family rather than a carer who never gets an evening off. For the person moving in, the first weeks are what count. We want to know how they have always run their day, what they are proud of, who they want to hear from, what unsettles them and what makes an afternoon good. We write it down, we use it, and we keep correcting it as we learn. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Anyone considering a move is welcome to visit and take their time over it.

- Care Home
The Gatehouse Residential Care Home is in New Milton, Hampshire, and we provide a home for older people who need support with daily living. Respite stays are available as well. Most of what makes a care home good is ordinary detail rather than anything grand. Knowing which chair is somebody's. Getting the tea right. Not hurrying a person through a wash because the morning is busy. We help with personal care, dressing, medication and mobility, doing it quietly and leaving as much privacy and choice with the resident as we can. Where somebody can still manage a task themselves, that is theirs to keep. Dementia care is a significant part of our work. We keep the daily rhythm and the surroundings steady, give people time to find their words instead of finishing their sentences, and take trouble to learn about earlier life, because knowing what somebody did for a living and what they loved tells us a great deal once language becomes unreliable. Families usually hold that story and we ask for it early. Respite bookings are planned with the same care as permanent moves, because a break only rests a family if the person staying with us is genuinely settled rather than merely safe. We have not yet had an overall rating published by the Care Quality Commission, which we say plainly rather than leaving you to look it up. Come and see us on an ordinary afternoon and ask us anything you like.

The Laurels is a residential care home in Fareham, Hampshire, supporting older people and adults living with learning disabilities and autism, including younger adults. A house shared by people with different needs only works if difference is expected rather than merely tolerated. Our residents do not want the same day as one another, and our job is to make room for that without letting the loudest need crowd out the quietest person. Some want company from breakfast onwards. Others surface later and prefer their own company until then. Both are perfectly reasonable ways to live. We support people to do as much for themselves as they want and are able to, and we give help where it is genuinely needed without making anybody feel lesser for needing it. Communication is planned around each individual, because being properly understood is the foundation everything else sits on, and we take change at a pace people can manage. Respite stays are available for short periods of support or to give a family carer a planned break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and visitors are welcome.

Whitegates & The Cottage is a residential care setting in Liss supporting adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions and people living with a physical disability. Our starting point is always the individual. We spend time learning how somebody communicates, what they enjoy, what unsettles them and what helps them settle again, and we make sure the whole team understands those things in the same way. Consistency is what allows a person to relax, and it is also what lets us notice early when something is not right. The day here belongs to the people who live in the house. People get up when they are ready, spend their time on things that genuinely interest them and keep as much charge of their own routine as they want. Where somebody is working towards more independence, whether that is cooking, managing their own money or getting out locally, we look for the practical steps rather than talking about it in the abstract. Respite stays are available as well, for people who need support for a short period and for families who need a break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. What tells us more is whether people here look relaxed and whether relatives feel free to turn up and ask anything.

Dove House is a residential care home at Rake in Hampshire supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We are a household rather than an institution, and the people who live here have a real say in how their own home is run. Support is planned around the individual. Some of the people here need help with most parts of the day; others need very little practical help but rely on us for routine, encouragement and staff who understand how they communicate and what they find overwhelming. We take our time at the start, and we ask the people who know somebody best rather than relying on a file. Everyday life covers the ordinary things: cooking, shopping, laundry, keeping your own room how you like it, deciding what to do at the weekend and getting out into the villages and countryside around us. We support people to do as much for themselves as they can and want to, which sometimes means standing back and letting a task take longer. Our staff are trained for the individuals they support, including communication and positive ways of responding when somebody is distressed, and we keep the team consistent because trust builds over months. Ravenna Lodge is a residential care home in Andover, caring for older people who can no longer manage safely on their own, and supporting people managing mental health conditions and younger adults. We aim for the feel of a household rather than an institution, with people keeping their own routines, their own belongings and a real say in how their day is spent. Where we support somebody with a mental health condition, our approach is deliberately ordinary rather than clinical. We take time to understand what a good week looks like for a person and what tends to knock things off course, and we build support around that. Respite stays are available too, for people who need care for a short period and for family carers who need a proper break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take that as the standard to hold rather than an achievement to rest on. The better test is whether people here seem settled and whether they feel able to tell us when something is not working. We are a residential care home in Ringwood, providing a home for older people who need help with daily living, including people with physical disabilities. We try to run the place so that it belongs to the people who live in it. Residents have their own rooms with their own belongings, get up and go to bed when they choose and decide how they want to spend their days. Where somebody needs help with washing, dressing or moving about, we aim to give it without hurry and without doing more of the task than is actually needed, because keeping what a person can still manage for themselves matters as much as helping with the rest. Meals are cooked here and we pay attention when somebody would rather have something else. Family and friends are welcome whenever they would like to come, and we would always rather a relative raised a concern straight away than saved it for a formal moment. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. A planned short break can give a relative who provides care at home the rest they need to carry on, or help somebody regain confidence after an illness. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are considering a home for yourself or someone in your family, do come and look round and ask us anything.

Abbeyfield Lodge is a care home in Fleet, Hampshire. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, including people managing a mental health condition, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Supporting somebody who has lived with a mental health condition for years asks for a different habit of mind from the one care homes often fall into. Most of the people who come to us have been dealing with their condition for a long time, have been told what to do by a good many professionals, and know a great deal about what helps them and what makes things harder. We start from what the person tells us, and we do not treat a difficult period as a reason to reconsider whether they should be here. The rest of it is ordinary living. People decide how their day runs, come and go, keep their own routines and have their own space to retreat to when company becomes too much. Staff are expected to be consistent, which for most of the people here counts for more than anything else. Respite stays are available for people who need somewhere for a short period, whether to give a carer a break or to get through a difficult patch. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are considering a placement locally, please come and see us.

Snowdrop Place is a residential care home in Southampton, providing a permanent home for adults who need care and support with the everyday business of living. We try to keep the atmosphere domestic rather than institutional, because that is what most people actually want. Our care is residential rather than nursing. We help with personal care, medication, meals, mobility and company, and we call in community health professionals when something more clinical is needed. Many of our residents live with dementia, and we rely on continuity above all: familiar staff who know a person's history, a routine that does not keep shifting and reassurance given as often as it is needed. We also support younger adults, planning their interests and routines on their own terms. Respite stays are available for families needing a planned break from caring at home. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would sooner tell you that ourselves than leave you to find it later and wonder what else went unsaid. The areas identified are where our effort is concentrated at present. If you are considering the home for someone you care about, please visit, speak to the people who live here and ask us about it face to face.

Ashley Arnewood Manor is a residential care home in New Milton providing care for older people, including people living with dementia, along with shorter respite stays. We run the home at the pace of the people in it. Breakfast happens when somebody wakes rather than when a trolley comes round, and the day takes the shape a person wants. The care covers help with washing and dressing, medication, meals cooked here, support with mobility, and somebody always around when a person needs them. For those living with dementia we keep the routine steady and the faces familiar, and we arrange the house so that it is easy to understand and to move about in. Our staff tend to stay with us for a long time, and that continuity does more to settle somebody than any particular method could. Families are welcome whenever they wish to come, and we would much rather hear a concern early than have it sit unspoken. Respite can cover a family holiday or a period of recovery after illness. Please ring us if you would like to come and look round.

Lower St Helens is a residential care home in Southampton for adults with learning disabilities and for autistic adults, including younger adults who are moving into their first home away from family. We also take people for respite stays. Our approach is unglamorous and it works. We help with the everyday business of running a life, so that means personal care where it is needed, cooking, shopping, managing money, keeping appointments and looking after a bedroom that belongs to the person and nobody else. Beyond that we concentrate on what somebody actually wants from their week. Southampton has plenty going on, and we would far rather help a person get to a class, a job, a swimming pool or a friend's house than fill the diary with activities of our own invention. Predictability matters to many of the people we support, so we keep routines steady, prepare people for changes ahead of time and explain things in a way that suits them. Where somebody becomes distressed we look at why rather than simply managing the behaviour, and we take advice from families and from health colleagues who know the person well. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are looking for a placement, please arrange to visit, meet the people who live here and ask us whatever you need to know.

Tendring Care Homes provides residential care in Southampton for older people and for younger adults who need support with daily living, including people living with dementia. We offer permanent places and shorter respite stays. We work at the pace of the people who live here. Breakfast happens when somebody wakes rather than when a trolley comes round, and the day is shaped by what a person actually wants from it. The care covers washing and dressing, medication, meals cooked on the premises, support with mobility, and somebody always about when a person needs them. For those living with dementia we keep the routine steady and the staff familiar, and we arrange the house so that it is easy to understand and move around in. We take the view that behaviour is nearly always communication, and the useful question is what somebody is trying to tell us rather than how to stop it. Families are welcome whenever they want to come, and we would much rather hear a concern early than have it sit unspoken. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Harlow Hall is a residential care home in Aldershot providing a home for older people and for younger adults who need help with everyday life. We support people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, and people with loss of sight or hearing. The place runs at the pace of the people living in it. Breakfast happens when somebody wakes rather than when a trolley arrives, and the day takes the shape a person wants. The care covers washing and dressing, medication, meals cooked here, mobility and the many small practical things that become difficult alone, given in a way that leaves somebody their privacy. For those living with dementia we keep the routine steady and the faces familiar. For people with loss of sight or hearing we adapt how we communicate, how rooms are lit and how we approach and announce ourselves, because those small changes decide whether a person is included or left on the edge of things. Families are welcome whenever they want to come. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and you are welcome to visit.

Oak Mount Care Home is a care home in Ringwood, Hampshire. We provide residential care for older people, and we support people living with dementia and people managing a mental health condition. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. One thing worth looking at when you visit any home is how long the staff have been there. A settled team tells you more than the state of the furnishings. People who stay learn the residents properly, notice when somebody is off colour and handle a difficult moment calmly because they have met it before. We put our effort into keeping good staff for that reason, and we would suggest asking them directly rather than asking us. The day belongs to the residents. They choose when to get up, what to eat, where to spend their time and how much company they want. Rooms belong to the people in them, and relatives visit without appointment. Where somebody has lived with a mental health condition for many years, we start from what they tell us works. They usually know more about it than we do, and being listened to is often the thing they have had least of. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see us if you are considering care locally.

- Care Home
Willow House is a residential care home in Farnborough, Hampshire. We are a permanent home to older people, many of whom are living with dementia, and we also offer respite stays for those needing care for a short period or whose family carer needs a break. We help with the things that have become difficult: getting washed and dressed, moving about safely, medication given properly and on time, eating and drinking well, and having somebody nearby through the night. Where dementia is part of the picture it shapes the whole house rather than one wing of it. We keep the day recognisable, keep familiar staff around people, let residents hold on to their own belongings and habits, and sit with somebody who is upset instead of trying to talk them out of it. Food is cooked here and people are asked what they would like rather than told what there is. There is somewhere sociable to sit and somewhere quiet, the garden gets used when the weather allows, and families visit whenever they can and are welcome at mealtimes. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Choosing a care home is a hard thing to do, so please come and visit, more than once if that helps, and talk to whoever is on shift. That will tell you more than anything we can write here.

We want to be honest with you about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. - Care Home
Ashdale is a residential care home in Holybourne, Hampshire, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Most of the people living here are younger adults, and for most of them this is a settled long term home. We treat the house as belonging to the people who live in it. They arrange their own rooms, take part in the shopping and cooking as much as they want to, and decide how their days are spent. We support people to get out to work, to college, to clubs, to appointments and to see family, because a home is somewhere you go out from and come back to, not somewhere you are kept. Support is individual and agreed with the person. Communication gets particular attention here, and we use speech, signing, symbols, objects of reference or simply the understanding that comes from living alongside somebody. Without that, choice is something people are informed about rather than something they exercise. Short respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us if you would like to visit.

Support is individual and agreed with the person. Some here need a great deal of help and others very little, and both are entirely normal. - Care Home
Merceode Lodge is a residential care home in Southampton, supporting older people and younger adults from across Hampshire, including people living with dementia and people who have a physical disability. A care home is judged by its ordinary days rather than its brochure, so that is where our attention goes. Meals cooked here and eaten at a table. Personal care offered calmly and in private. Medication managed properly. Rooms that look like they belong to the person living in them. Staff awake overnight. Enough happening in the house to give the day a shape, and nobody pressed into joining anything they have no interest in. People keep their own routines wherever we can arrange it, because a home that insists everyone rises at the same hour and bathes to a schedule has quietly stopped being a home. For residents with a physical disability, getting about matters enormously. Accessible bathrooms, the right equipment, and staff who know how a particular person wants to be helped to move. Mobility lost because assistance was inconvenient is a loss we work hard to prevent. Where dementia is part of somebody's life we work on familiarity and calm instead of correction, and we ask relatives early for the history that helps us reach a person when they are distressed. Families usually know things we could never guess. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. Come and see the home, unannounced if you prefer, and talk to the people who already live here.

Remyck House is a residential care home in Aldershot, Hampshire, providing a permanent home for older people who are no longer able to manage safely on their own. We want the place to feel like somewhere people live rather than somewhere they have been placed. Our care is residential rather than nursing. That means help with washing and dressing, medication, meals, mobility and company, with community health professionals brought in when something more clinical is needed. Many of our residents live with dementia. We put our effort into consistency and calm: familiar staff, a routine that holds steady, and reassurance given as often as it is needed without any suggestion that it has been asked for before. Respite care is available as well, which gives family carers a proper break and lets a prospective resident get a feel for the home first. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather say that here ourselves than have a family come across it later. Our attention is on the areas raised, and we are not going to pretend the rating says something other than what it says. - Care Home
West Road is a residential care home in Southampton supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. It is a home rather than a placement, and the household is built around the people who live in it. Support is individual and practical. It can include help with personal care, medication, cooking, laundry, managing money and getting to appointments, and it takes in the things that make a week worth having: seeing people, going out, keeping up an interest, being useful, having plans of your own. We communicate in whatever way suits each person, and a routine that can be relied upon matters greatly to most of those we support. We give people the time to do things themselves even when stepping in would be quicker, and where somebody wants more independence we plan support that withdraws gradually as they grow into it. Most of the people we support are younger adults, and we are careful not to assume that a shared diagnosis means shared wishes. Respite stays are available too, giving family carers a real break and letting somebody get used to the house first. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit, meet the people who live here and see how the household actually runs.

What care homes cost in Hampshire, per week
| Type of care | What the council pays | What self-funders are typically asked |
|---|---|---|
| Residential care Middle half of prices from 107 South East homes. Median £1,600. | Varies by council | £1,500 to £1,809 |
| Nursing care Middle half of prices from 63 South East homes. Median £1,933. | Varies by council | £1,617 to £2,080 |
| Residential dementia care Middle half of prices from 82 South East homes. Median £1,709. | Not published separately | £1,571 to £1,942 |
| Nursing dementia care Middle half of prices from 37 South East homes. Median £2,050. | Not published separately | £1,975 to £2,226 |
Published prices are often starting prices, and come from homes that publish fees, so treat them as a guide. What a council pays differs from council to council. Ask the home for its own price. Powered by Orrery Intelligence.
Arranging and funding a care home place in Hampshire
Money and eligibility shape almost everything that follows, including which of the 325 care homes listed on this page are realistically within reach. Two separate pieces of assessment work sit behind most placements, and both are worth starting early, because homes with a strong local reputation can hold waiting lists.
Asking for a care needs assessment
Anyone who appears to need care and support can ask their local authority for an assessment, whatever their savings. A social care practitioner looks at daily living, mobility, medication, memory, and the risks a person faces at home, then records the level of support needed. Where residential care is the right answer, the assessment produces a care and support plan that any home can work from. Relatives acting for someone who cannot easily speak for themselves can ask to take part, and an advocate can be arranged where there is nobody else to fill that role.
Where Hampshire County Council fits in
Funded support follows a financial assessment carried out by Hampshire County Council once care needs have been agreed. Capital and income are both taken into account, and the outcome decides whether the council contributes towards fees, whether the person pays in full, or whether a deferred payment arrangement secured against a property would help. Even where someone is clearly funding their own care, the council still owes a duty to provide information and advice, so the process is rarely wasted effort.
Understanding what the fees cover
Weekly fees differ from one Hampshire home to the next and depend on the room, the level of personal care agreed, and whether any nursing input is involved. Ask each home for a written schedule showing what the fee includes and what is billed separately, since hairdressing, chiropody, and outings are often charged on top. Where a family prefers a home costing more than the council will pay, a third party contribution may be required, and that commitment has to stay affordable for the long term.
Choosing between care homes in Hampshire
Reading inspection outcomes properly
Ratings across this collection run from Outstanding through Good and Requires Improvement, alongside homes registered too recently to carry a judgement yet. Jasmine House, Sansa House, and The Conifers are among those holding Outstanding, while a Good rating still means the home met the standards the Care Quality Commission expects. Check the date of the inspection and read the findings on safety and leadership rather than the headline alone, because a judgement made some years ago describes the home as it was then, not necessarily as it is now.
What a visit should tell you
Arrange to visit at a busy point in the day, ideally around a mealtime, and notice whether residents look occupied and whether staff greet them by name. Ask how many carers are on duty overnight, how the home responds to a fall or a sudden illness, and how quickly families hear about it. Questions about staff turnover deserve a direct answer, because continuity of carers shapes daily life far more than furnishings do.
Matching the home to the person
Some homes in Hampshire are large purpose built settings for older people, while others are ordinary houses supporting a handful of adults with learning disabilities or autism. Think about the routine that would suit the person moving in, the distance relatives can travel comfortably and often, and whether the home could go on meeting needs as they change.
Frequently asked questions about care homes in Hampshire
How do we arrange a care needs assessment in Hampshire?
Contact adult social care at Hampshire County Council and ask for a care needs assessment for the person concerned. The assessment can take place at home or on a hospital ward, and there is no charge for it whatever the household savings. A practitioner will look at daily tasks, mobility, health conditions, and the support already in place, then set out what is needed. If residential care is recommended, the resulting plan gives every home you approach a clear description of the support required.
Can Hampshire County Council pay for a care home placement?
It can, where the care needs assessment shows residential care is required and the financial assessment shows the person cannot meet the full cost themselves. Capital and income are both considered, and any contribution is worked out individually rather than by a fixed rule. Where the council agrees to fund a place, it normally pays up to a level it considers sufficient to meet assessed needs, and a top up may be needed for a more expensive home. Deferred payment agreements are also possible in some circumstances where a property is involved.
Which providers offer residential care in Hampshire?
This page gathers three hundred and sixteen registered care homes across Hampshire, all of them residential settings inspected by the Care Quality Commission. They run from large homes for older people to small houses supporting adults with learning disabilities or autism. Each entry links to a profile showing the provider details and the current rating. Narrowing by location first, then by rating, is usually the quickest way to build a shortlist worth visiting.
What is the difference between a residential care home and a nursing home?
A residential care home provides personal care, meaning help with washing, dressing, medication, meals, and the shape of the day. A nursing home offers that same support with qualified nurses on site, which matters where there are complex medical needs such as wounds, feeding tubes, or unstable conditions. The homes collected on this page are registered for residential care. If a setting with nursing cover is needed, the care needs assessment should say so, and it saves time to establish that before booking visits.
How far ahead should we start looking at care homes in Hampshire?
Beginning a few months ahead is ideal, since it leaves room for an assessment, unhurried visits, and a considered choice. In practice families often start after a hospital admission or a sudden decline, when the timescale is days rather than weeks. Even then it is reasonable to ask about a short term placement while you look properly, rather than accepting the first vacancy offered. Registering interest early with homes you like costs nothing and puts you on the waiting list.
What should we ask when visiting a care home in Hampshire?
Ask how staffing levels change overnight and at weekends, and how long the current team has worked there. Ask what happens when a resident becomes unwell, which GP practice covers the home, and how quickly relatives are contacted. Ask to see the activities that actually ran over the past fortnight rather than a sample timetable, and how residents influence what is on offer. Finally, ask what the fee includes and what is charged separately, and ask for that answer in writing.
