About Us
Here at Brookfield Residential Home, we provide care for older people in the heart of Gosport, Hampshire. We are a residential care home specialising in older person care, residential care and dementia care, and we work hard every day to make sure the people who live with us feel safe, respected and genuinely at home.
We understand that moving into a care home is a significant step, both for the person coming to live with us and for their family. That is why we take time to get to know each resident as an individual, learning about their history, their preferences and the things that matter most to them. Good care, in our view, starts with really listening.
For those living with dementia, we know how important a calm, familiar and thoughtful environment can be. Our team works closely with residents and their loved ones to provide consistent, compassionate support that adapts as needs change over time.
We are proud that our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as Good. We do not take that for granted. It reflects the commitment of our whole team to maintaining high standards and continuing to improve the way we work. We are always looking at how we can do things better, whether that means how we support daily routines, how we communicate with families or how we create a warm atmosphere throughout the home.
Families are always welcome here. We believe the people who know our residents best are often their loved ones, and we value those relationships enormously. If you are considering Brookfield Residential Home for yourself or someone close to you, we would encourage you to come and visit us in Gosport and see the home for yourself. We are always happy to have a conversation and answer any questions you might have.

More about the care at Brookfield Residential Home
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
Older people moving into Brookfield Residential Home in Gosport can expect help with the everyday tasks that become harder with age, from washing and dressing to prompting or administering medication and simply having someone to talk to during the day. Good personal care is discreet and unhurried, following the person's own preferences about bath or shower, morning routines and how they like to be addressed. Companionship matters just as much, because loneliness can affect appetite, sleep and mood. Families considering this home should ask how care plans are written and reviewed, how continence and medication are managed, and what the staffing ratio looks like overnight. It is also worth asking how the team responds if someone becomes unwell after hours and how quickly a GP or district nurse can be called in.
Dementia
Familiarity is the foundation of good dementia support, which usually means steady routines, a small consistent staff team, clear signage and a layout that feels safe to walk around without feeling locked in. Brookfield is registered to provide dementia care alongside its residential service, and its own description highlights the importance of a calm, thoughtful environment for people living with the condition. Families should ask how the home settles someone in during the first few weeks, how staff are trained to respond to distress or agitation without reaching first for medication, and what happens if a resident tries to leave or becomes disorientated at night. It is also fair to ask how the care plan will be adjusted as dementia progresses and at what point the home would say needs have moved beyond residential care.
Respite Care
Respite stays cover planned breaks for family carers as well as recovery time after a hospital admission, and Brookfield is registered to offer this alongside its permanent places. Most homes ask for a minimum stay of one or two weeks and want GP details, a current medication list and enough clothing, toiletries and familiar items for the length of the visit. A short booking can also work as a gentle trial before any decision about moving in permanently.
Residential Care
Residential care is aimed at people who need reliable daily support but not the ongoing clinical input of a registered nurse. At Brookfield Residential Home, which is registered for residential and older person care, that would typically cover help with personal care, meals prepared and served in a communal dining room, laundry, housekeeping and social activities through the week. The key difference from nursing care is that nursing homes have registered nurses on shift around the clock to manage conditions such as complex wound care, tube feeding or unstable long term illness, whereas residential settings bring in the district nursing team for those needs. In the South East, residential fees commonly sit between around 1100 and 1450 pounds a week, with Hampshire County Council typically funding closer to 800 to 950 pounds for people it supports.
