The point at which a family begins ringing round the home care agencies in Norfolk is rarely a calm one, and it usually follows a fall, a hospital stay, or a run of small worries that have quietly added up. Norfolk County Council is worth contacting early, because it is the body responsible for carrying out a care needs assessment and for arranging funded support where a person meets the eligibility rules, whoever expects to pay in the end. One hundred and seventy nine agencies match this search, and the Care Quality Commission has rated them Outstanding, Good and Requires Improvement, with a sizeable group not yet holding a published rating. Coverage counts for as much as quality here, since an agency has to be able to reach the address at the hours the visits are needed. Open the profiles that serve your part of the county, read the inspection report attached to each rating, and let what inspectors recorded guide which agencies are worth a first conversation.

- Home Care
Master Care provides support to people in their own homes across Norwich and the surrounding parts of Norfolk. We work with older people, adults living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing mental ill health, adults with physical disabilities, those with visual or hearing impairments and younger adults. Our starting point is that most people would rather stay in the home they know, with their own kitchen and their own chair, and that whether this works comes down to two things: whether the support is genuinely reliable, and whether the person arriving actually knows them. Care that turns up unpredictably, from a different face each visit, erodes confidence even when every task gets completed. So we keep our teams small and local, match staff to people carefully and plan realistically rather than taking on more than we can properly staff. Our visits cover personal care, medication, meals, mobility, getting up and settling at night, and support to get out into the community. We keep families and professionals honestly informed, and if we think someone's needs are outgrowing what safe home care can deliver, we say so early so families can plan rather than react. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. If you are looking into support for yourself or someone close to you, we would be glad to meet and talk it through.

- Home Care
At Prevail Healthcare, we provide home care to people living in Norwich and across Norfolk, supporting individuals to remain comfortable, independent and well in their own homes. Our team works with a wide range of people, including older adults, younger adults, and those living with dementia, learning disabilities, autism, mental health conditions, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments. We understand that inviting someone into your home to provide support is a significant decision, and we do not take that trust lightly. From the very first conversation, we take time to understand what matters most to each person, whether that is maintaining a daily routine, staying connected to their community, or simply having a friendly and reliable face at the door. Care is planned around the individual, not the other way around. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission resulted in an overall rating of Good, which reflects the effort our team puts in day to day to ensure people receive safe, respectful and consistent support. We are proud of that outcome, and we use feedback from inspections, from the people we support, and from their families, to keep improving the way we work. What sets us apart is the range of needs we are experienced in supporting. Whether someone needs a short visit to help with morning routines or more involved support throughout the day, we work flexibly to make sure the care fits the person rather than the other way around. We also work closely with families and other professionals involved in someone's care to make sure everyone is kept informed and that any changes in needs are responded to promptly. If you would like to find out more about how we can support you or someone you care about, we would be very happy to have that conversation.

NCC First Support in Norwich provides care at home to adults across Norwich and the surrounding part of Norfolk. We work with older people who need help to carry on living in their own houses, people with physical disabilities and younger adults who need support to live independently. The practical work covers personal care, support and prompting with medication, meals, household tasks, shopping and getting out to appointments or into town. Some people need a single short visit a day. Others need several longer ones, and needs change, so we review arrangements honestly rather than letting a plan drift. For people with a physical disability, the things that matter most are equipment, moving and handling done properly, and above all enough time. Transfers and personal care take as long as they take, and rushing is where both dignity and safety go. We put real effort into continuity and timekeeping. The same carers, arriving when they said they would, is what separates home care that works from home care that adds to the worry. A familiar carer is also the one who will notice that somebody is not themselves this week, which is what keeps small problems from becoming hospital admissions. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you are arranging support at home locally.

Almond Tree Care provides care in people's own homes in Norwich and across Norfolk. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia or with mental ill health, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Our visits cover personal care, help with medication, meal preparation, support to get out and about, and the practical everyday tasks that make staying at home possible. We also give family carers a regular break, which is often the thing that keeps a household going. We want to be open about our regulatory position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are not going to talk around that. We have accepted the findings, we have an action plan we are working through, and we have made changes to how we recruit, train and supervise our carers and to how we check that visits happen as they should. We say this because trusting somebody with the care of a relative is a great deal to ask, and it should be based on accurate information. If you are considering us, please ask about the rating, ask what we have changed, and ask to speak to the manager. What we can promise is that we will be straight with you about what we can and cannot do, and that we will tell you quickly if something goes wrong.

We are a home care agency based in Norwich, supporting people in their own homes across Norfolk. We visit older people, including many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and younger adults who need support with daily life. The support we provide is shaped around the person rather than around a standard package. Sometimes that is a short morning call to help with getting up, washing and dressing. Sometimes it is help with medication, meals and the running of a household. Sometimes it is several visits a day, because that is what keeps staying at home realistic. We agree what is needed at the outset, write it down plainly and change it when circumstances do. We want to be open about our regulatory position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are working through the points raised with us, and we would far rather tell you that ourselves than have you find it out after a decision has been made. If you are considering us, please ask about it and we will give you a straight answer about what has changed and what is still in hand. Continuity is the part of home care people feel most, so we try to keep the same carers going to the same people. If you would like to talk about support at home in this area, please ring us.

NR Care provides care and support in people's own homes across Norwich and the surrounding parts of Norfolk. We visit older adults, younger adults, people living with dementia, people with learning disabilities and autistic people, people with physical disabilities or with loss of sight or hearing, and people working through difficulties with alcohol or drugs. The thread running through all of that is that everyone we support has chosen to stay at home, and our job is to make that choice hold up. Sometimes it is a short daily call. Sometimes it is a substantial package of visits covering personal care, medication, meals and company. We work out which by asking rather than by assuming. We put a lot of effort into who goes where. Being helped to wash and dress is an intimate thing and it is far easier when the carer is someone you know, so we keep the same small teams with the same people as far as the rota allows. It is harder to organise and it is worth it. Plans are agreed with the person, written plainly, and revised when things change. Families are involved to the degree the person wants. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch to talk about support in Norwich.

Cera provides care at home for people in Norwich and the surrounding parts of Norfolk. We support a wide range of adults, and each package is built around the person and their household rather than picked from a fixed list. For older people we help with personal care, medication, meals, laundry, shopping and keeping the home in order, and we support people to get out to appointments or simply out of the house. Where somebody is living with dementia we keep the same care workers visiting wherever the rota allows, follow the routine already in place and leave things where the person expects to find them. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, where the work is often about independence rather than personal care, and adults with mental health needs, where reliability and respect matter more than paperwork. For people with a physical disability we help with moving safely and managing at home, and where there is sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate. We also support people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug dependency. That work asks for consistency and a complete absence of judgement, and we do it alongside the health professionals involved. Younger adults are supported around their own lives. Our care workers are trained for the people they actually visit. Please contact us if you would like to discuss support at home here.

All Day Care provides support at home to adults in Norwich and the surrounding part of Norfolk. We support older people who need help to carry on living in their own houses, and younger adults who need support to live independently. The aim in both cases is the same: to make the life somebody has chosen workable, rather than to substitute a tidier version of it. Visits cover personal care given without rushing, support and prompting with medication, preparing meals, help with laundry, shopping and keeping the house in order, and getting out to appointments or simply out for a change of scene. For some people the most useful part of a visit is not a task at all but the company and the fact that somebody has looked in. Two things get most of our attention. The first is arriving when we said we would, because a call at an unpredictable time causes more worry than it settles. The second is sending people the person already knows, because nobody should have to explain themselves to a stranger every week, and a familiar carer is the one who notices when something is different. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you are arranging support at home locally.

- Home Care
We are Willow Close, a home care agency in Norwich, Norfolk. We support older people and younger adults in their own homes, including people living with dementia and people with a physical disability. The question families most often ask is whether care at home will be enough. The honest answer is that it depends less on the number of hours than on whether the arrangement is the right shape. One well timed call each morning can hold a week together, while several badly planned visits leave somebody feeling managed rather than helped. So we spend time on the shape of it, and we revisit it as needs move on. With dementia, the detail that matters most is who comes through the door. A familiar carer makes a visit work where an unfamiliar one, however capable, may not, and we build rotas around that. For people with a physical disability, it is time and detail that count: an unhurried transfer, equipment set up properly, and asking the person how they prefer it done. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet been given an overall rating.

We are ABAEL Care, based in Thetford and providing support to people in their own homes across the area. We work with adults who have a learning disability, autistic adults, people with a visual or hearing impairment, and younger adults who want to live in their own place with the right backing rather than in a care setting. Much of our work is about enabling rather than doing. Where somebody wants to cook for themselves, manage their own money, keep a tenancy going, use public transport or hold down a job or a course, we work at it with them patiently and at their pace. We do not decide in advance what is beyond anybody, and we do not treat a difficult stretch as proof that something was unrealistic. Communication is the foundation of the work. We learn how each person tells us what they want, whether through speech, signs, pictures or the way they respond to something, and we make sure every worker understands it before supporting that person alone. We take real care over who supports whom and we keep those arrangements steady, because this depends on trust far more than on procedure. We work closely with families, social workers and health professionals. Please get in touch to discuss support.

Caremark Norwich provides support at home to adults in Norwich and across Norfolk. The people we work with include older people who need help to stay in their own houses, adults living with dementia, people with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, people with a visual or hearing impairment and younger adults who need support to live independently. Supporting that range means there is no standard package. What an older person needs first thing in the morning has very little in common with what an autistic adult running their own household wants from us, and we assess properly, agree the support with the person, and change it when their circumstances change. Working across a city and a large rural county means distances are real and public transport is thin. People can become isolated here long before they become unwell, so getting somebody out and keeping them connected is often as valuable as any practical task. The work covers personal care, support and prompting with medication, meals, household tasks, shopping and help to get out and about. We aim to send the same small group of carers to each person and to arrive when we said we would. If you are arranging care at home locally, please get in touch.

NCC First Support in the south of Norfolk provides care in people's own homes in and around Dereham. We are here for people who want to carry on living in their own place and need some help to make that work safely. Most of our work is with older adults. That can mean a brief call to help with getting up, washing, dressing and medication, help with meals, shopping and household tasks, or longer visits where somebody needs closer support and company through the day. We ask what a person wants rather than offering them a package to fit into, and we would sooner change an arrangement that has stopped suiting them than leave it running because it was what we first agreed. We also support people with physical disabilities, helping with personal care, mobility and getting out of the house, and doing so in a way that leaves the person in charge of how it is done. We support younger adults too, whose days are shaped by work, study, family or their own plans, and whose care should fit around those things. We keep the number of different workers visiting each person as small as we can manage, because familiarity is what lets people relax and what lets us notice changes early. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Do contact us with any questions.

Rose Care Norfolk provides care and support in people's own homes across Norwich and the surrounding county. We work with older adults, younger adults, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people with loss of sight or hearing, and people managing mental health conditions. A carer running half an hour late is a genuine problem for somebody waiting to be helped out of bed, so we plan our rotas with that firmly in mind and would rather cover a smaller area properly than a wider one badly. The support runs from short prompting calls to several longer visits a day covering personal care, medication, meals, household tasks, getting out and company. Much of our work is with adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, including younger adults who are building a life of their own, and we also support older people who need help to stay living at home. Independent living is the point rather than the label. We help with the practical business of running a household, so that covers cooking, shopping, cleaning, budgeting, medication, appointments and keeping a tenancy going, along with personal care where somebody needs it. Just as importantly, we help people do the things that make a week worth having, whether that is work, volunteering, a course, a club, the horticulture and craft that this part of Norfolk lends itself to, or simply seeing friends and family. Our approach is to work out what each person can do, what they want to learn, and where they genuinely need us, and then to step back wherever stepping back is right. We pay close attention to how people communicate and we record what works so it is not lost. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Orchard Healthcare in Norfolk is a home care agency based in King's Lynn, supporting people in their own homes across the surrounding area. Our work is for people who need help with daily life but have no wish to leave a home they have spent years making their own. We support older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, people who have a learning disability, autistic people, people with physical disabilities and people with visual or hearing impairment. A visit may involve personal care, support with medication, preparing meals, help with mobility and moving safely about the home, household tasks and shopping, company, or support to get out to appointments and to see people. We assess with the person and anyone they want involved, agree plainly what is needed, write it down and review it when circumstances change. Keeping the same carers with the same clients is a priority for us, and it matters most for people living with dementia, where a recognised face at the door is worth more than any amount of explaining. Our carers are trained for the particular needs of the people they visit. We do not yet hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. We are registered with and regulated by them, and we are building the care planning, training and management oversight that a good rating properly requires. We are happy to be asked hard questions in the meantime.

- Home Care
Trust Care Agency provides care and support in people's own homes across Norwich and the surrounding part of Norfolk. We work with older adults, younger adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities, and people managing mental health conditions. That is a wide remit and it only works if we start by listening. No two of these situations call for the same response, so we sit down with the person, find out what they want their days to look like and where help is genuinely needed, and build the visits from there. Norfolk is a scattered county and distances between calls are real, so we plan our rotas with that firmly in mind and would rather cover a smaller area properly than a wider one badly. The support might be personal care, medication, meals, shopping, getting out of the house, household tasks, or simply company for somebody who lives alone. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us to talk about support.

We provide care and support to people in their own homes in Great Yarmouth and the eastern part of Norfolk. The people we work with are older people, younger adults and people with physical disabilities who want to carry on living at home. Our work is practical and it is judged on reliability. Arriving when we said we would, staying for the time we agreed, knowing the person we are visiting and doing what they want done rather than what is quickest. That is the whole job, and it is harder to do consistently than it sounds. Support is agreed with each person in their own home, with family or an advocate involved whenever they want that, and covers personal care, help with medication, meals and drinks, housework, laundry, shopping, getting to appointments and company for people who are on their own most of the week. Where somebody has a physical disability we look closely at equipment, transfers and how the home is set up, and we make sure the people visiting are trained for what is needed. We review support when circumstances change rather than at fixed intervals, and we would much rather hear early that something is not working. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you would like to talk about support in the Great Yarmouth area, please give us a call and we will arrange to visit.

- Home Care
MUTEURO is a home care agency in Norwich, supporting people in their own homes across the city and the surrounding parts of Norfolk. We work with older people, people living with dementia, people living with mental ill health, adults with a physical disability, people with visual or hearing impairment and younger adults. Care at home lives or dies on detail. Arriving when you said you would. Knowing that somebody needs a minute to reach the door. Remembering which tablets go with food and which cup is the one they always use. None of it is remarkable on its own, but together it is the difference between support that genuinely helps and support that grates. Our visits cover personal care, prompting and assisting with medication, meals, help around the house and getting out to appointments or into town. Some people need us briefly while they recover. Others have been with us for years, and in those cases the relationship counts as much as the tasks. We work at sending the same carers to the same people. Where someone lives with dementia or has reduced sight or hearing, a familiar voice and a predictable visit are what make the arrangement work at all. We keep families informed where the person wants that, and we flag anything that concerns us promptly rather than waiting for a review. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch to talk things through.

Woodgate Park provides care and support to people in their own homes in Dereham and across Norfolk. We work with older people, younger adults, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Most people who come to us want to stay where they are. In their own house, with their own things around them and their own way of doing the day, helped just enough to make that safe. Our job is to provide that help without taking over somebody's household. We start with a visit and a proper conversation about what has actually become difficult, which is often not what families assume. Sometimes it is washing and dressing, sometimes medication or meals, sometimes getting out to an appointment, and quite often it is simply that the house has become very quiet. The plan follows from that conversation and is revised as needs change. We keep the team around each person small, because being helped by somebody who already knows you is most of what makes home care work. For people living with dementia and for anyone who cannot see well, a familiar voice at the door counts for a great deal. Norfolk is a large rural county and rotas that look neat on paper often leave people waiting, so we build ours around real distances. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please call us if you would like to talk things over.

Enable Healthcare Solutions is based in Swaffham and supports people in their own homes across this part of Norfolk. We work with older people, people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental ill health, people with a physical disability, people with visual or hearing impairment and younger adults. Covering a rural area shapes how we work. Distances are real and so is isolation, and for some of the people we visit we are the main face they see in a day. We build travel time into rotas properly so that visits are not clipped short, and we keep the same carers going to the same households wherever we can. Our visits cover personal care, support with medication, meals, help around the house and getting out to appointments or into town. For younger adults and for people with a learning disability, the work is often less about personal care and more about making an ordinary week workable. Alongside the tasks sits the part of the job that never appears on a timesheet, which is noticing. Someone eating less, a sore area starting, a person who has gone quiet. A carer who knows a household well sees that long before a review would. Please get in touch if you would like to talk through what support might look like.

- Home Care
Prestige Nursing Norwich provides care and support to people in their own homes in Norwich and the surrounding part of Norfolk. Because we employ nurses as well as carers, we can take on support that needs clinical skill as well as practical help, and we are clear with people and their families about which is which rather than blurring the two. For some households that matters a great deal, particularly where somebody has come out of hospital with needs that ordinary home care could not safely meet. Support is worked out at home with the person and whoever they want present. It may be a single short call each day, several visits for personal care, medication, meals and company, or longer stretches for somebody who should not be alone. The plan is agreed together and changes as circumstances change. Reliability is what families judge us on, and rightly. Arriving when we said. Staying the time agreed. Sending staff who already know the person. Ringing before anybody has to ring us. In a rural county that takes careful planning of rounds and we do it rather than hoping. Our staff are checked, trained and supervised. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.

- Home Care
We are a specialist team supporting children and young people with a physical disability at home in Norwich and across Norfolk. Our work sits alongside families rather than above them, because parents know their own child better than any professional does and the support only works if it fits the household it is going into. What we provide depends entirely on the child and the family. It might be practical help with personal care and daily routines, support with equipment and moving and handling, or help at the parts of the day that are hardest, which is often mornings, bedtimes and the gaps around school. For many families the greatest value is simply a reliable pair of hands at a predictable time, so that the rest of family life has room to happen. We take time to understand how a child communicates, which is frequently not through speech, and we are led by what they show us as well as by what parents tell us. We work closely with schools, therapists, community nursing and social work colleagues, because support for a child with complex needs falls apart when nobody is joining it up. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and we are glad to be asked about our training, our staffing and how we handle concerns. If your family would like to talk about support at home, please get in touch and we will explain honestly what we can offer.

Temple Healthcare provides support at home for people in Norwich and the surrounding part of Norfolk. The people we visit include older people, many of them living with dementia, as well as younger adults, people with a physical disability and people managing mental health conditions. Everything begins with a proper conversation in your own home about your routine, your preferences and where help would make the biggest difference. Visits can cover personal care and medication, cooking, shopping and housework, getting out to appointments, or company for somebody who sees very few people in a week. Some people need one short call a day and others need several, or support overnight, and we are happy to start small and adjust as things change. Keeping the same carers visiting the same people is something we protect. Familiarity does more good than almost anything else we can offer, particularly for somebody living with dementia, and it means changes get noticed early by a carer who knows what normal looks like for that person. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and we are glad to be asked about our training, our staffing and how we handle concerns. Families usually want two things from an agency. Somebody who arrives when they said they would, and somebody who tells them the truth when something has gone wrong. We aim to be both. If you are looking into care at home in Norwich, please get in touch and we will talk it through honestly.

Niche Care Norfolk is a home care agency in Thetford, supporting people in their own homes across Norfolk. We work with older people and younger adults, with people living with dementia, with people who have a learning disability, with autistic people, with people living with mental health needs or a physical disability, with people affected by an eating disorder and with people whose lives have been touched by alcohol or drug misuse. Taking on that range obliges us to be careful rather than casual about matching. The support that helps an older person living with dementia is not the support that helps a young adult discharged after a mental health crisis, and pretending otherwise is how home care goes wrong. We assess properly, we are honest about what we do well, and we match carers to people deliberately. The practical work covers personal care, medication, meals, help to move safely about the home and support to keep appointments and routines from slipping. Where specialist teams are involved, as they usually are with eating disorders and with recovery from substance use, we follow the clinical plan rather than improvising around it, and judgement is not part of what we offer. Rural Norfolk brings distance and isolation, and we plan around them rather than pretending they do not exist. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. Call us and we will be straight about what we can take on and what we cannot.

What care at home in Norfolk actually involves
Care at home is bought by the hour rather than by the room, and that one difference shapes everything about how these providers should be compared. A package might be a single half hour call to help someone wash and take their tablets, or four visits a day covering meals, personal care and settling at night. Understanding which shape fits before ringing round saves a great deal of time.
The practical detail that decides how well it works
Ask how many different carers are likely to attend over a fortnight, because continuity is the thing families most often wish they had insisted on. Find out what happens when a regular carer is off sick, how late a call can run before the office rings to explain, and whether visits are logged electronically so relatives can see what was done. Check the minimum visit length, since a rushed call leaves no room for a proper meal or an unhurried wash. Confirm which tasks the agency will take on, particularly medication, catheter care, hoisting and anything needing two carers, and ask how far the agency travels, as rural addresses across Norfolk can sit at the edge of a provider's usual round.
Reading the inspection ratings
Ratings here are published by the Care Quality Commission and include Outstanding, Good and Requires Improvement, alongside agencies not yet rated. Good means inspectors found the agency met the standards tested on safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership. Requires Improvement is worth investigating rather than dismissing, because the reasons range from paperwork gaps to late and missed calls, and the second of those matters enormously to somebody waiting on morning medication. Agencies such as Bluebell Support Services, Elite Care, Ambition Community Healthcare and I Care Service carry a Good rating on this listing. A number of providers here are not yet rated, which usually reflects a recent registration rather than a concern, though it does mean asking more questions and seeking references yourself.
Getting an assessment and sorting out funding in Norfolk
The route into funded support is the same whether the outcome is two visits a week or four a day, and beginning it before a crisis gives the family room to choose.
Requesting a care needs assessment
Anyone who appears to need care and support can ask for an assessment, and no financial test applies before it takes place. Norfolk County Council is responsible for carrying out that assessment and for arranging funded support where the national eligibility criteria are met. It looks at washing, dressing, meals, medication, mobility and how safe somebody is between visits, and ends in a written record that is useful even to families paying privately, because it states plainly how much help is genuinely needed. A relative giving regular unpaid support may request a carer assessment of their own at the same time.
What it is likely to cost
Charges are usually set by the hour or by the visit, so the weekly figure depends on how many calls are needed and how long each lasts. Where council help is sought, a financial assessment follows and considers income, savings and other capital, with anyone above the national threshold normally expected to fund their own support. Ask each agency for its hourly rate in writing, along with weekend and bank holiday charges, whether travel time is billed, and what notice is needed to change or cancel a visit.
Frequently asked questions about home care in Norfolk
Which providers appear on this Norfolk listing?
This page brings together one hundred and seventy nine home care agencies registered with the Care Quality Commission to operate in Norfolk. They deliver personal care in people's own homes, from a single daily call through to several visits a day. Providers on the list include Riseup Healthcare Ltd, About with Friends, Carewatch Norfolk and Fairway House. Each profile shows the current published rating and links through to the full inspection report.
What should I ask an agency before agreeing to a package?
Start with continuity: how many carers will attend across a typical fortnight, and who covers when the usual carer is unavailable. Ask about minimum visit lengths, how arrival times are recorded, and whether family members can see a log of each call. Request the hourly rate in writing together with weekend and bank holiday rates, any charge for travel, and the notice period for changing or stopping visits. It is also worth asking who reviews the care plan, how often, and which number to ring outside office hours.
How does care at home differ from a care home or a nursing home?
Care at home brings a carer to the person for agreed visits, leaving them in their own house with their own routine and belongings. A care home provides accommodation with personal care and staff on site day and night, which becomes the safer choice when help is needed unpredictably or someone is unsafe alone overnight. A nursing home offers that plus registered nurses on the premises for clinical needs such as complex medication or wound care. Every provider on this Norfolk page supports people in their own homes rather than in a residential setting.
Can Norfolk County Council help pay for care at home?
It can, where the person meets the care eligibility criteria and the financial assessment that follows. Norfolk County Council considers income, savings and other capital to decide how much someone contributes towards the cost of their support. Those with capital above the national threshold usually pay for their own care, although they may still request an assessment and ask for advice on arranging it. Where the council contributes, it agrees a personal budget, which some people take as a direct payment and use to commission an agency themselves.
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Norfolk?
Ring the adult social care team at Norfolk County Council and ask for a care needs assessment. Anyone who appears to need care and support is entitled to one whatever their savings, and a family member can make the request with the person's consent. The assessment covers daily tasks, mobility, medication and safety at home, and produces a written record of what support is required. If the person is in hospital, the ward team can refer straight through, which usually speeds matters up.
How far ahead should home care be organised?
Earlier than most families expect, because the busiest slots fill quickly and Norfolk covers a great deal of ground. Early morning and teatime calls are the hardest to secure, so a request made at short notice may be met with times that do not really suit. Starting early also allows a small package to be trialled and adjusted once everyone can see how it works day to day. Where a hospital discharge is on the horizon, tell the ward promptly so the assessment can run alongside discharge planning.
