- Care Home
We are Ann Slade Care Home in Southport. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we take respite bookings for shorter stays. We have kept our focus clear rather than trying to be all things to everyone. Residential care for older people is what we do, and dementia care is a large part of it. Doing that well depends on knowing each person properly: their history, the work they did, the family names, the things that comfort them and the things that reliably unsettle them. Staff who carry that knowledge are the ones who can head off distress before it takes hold, and who notice quickly when somebody is unwell. Beyond that, much of what makes a day here good is quite unremarkable. A decent breakfast at a time that suits you. Your own chair and your own belongings. The garden when the weather allows. Company if you want it and quiet if you would rather, and somebody with the time to sit down and properly listen. We also support people to keep hold of what they can still manage themselves, and to keep up the connections they already have in Southport. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please ring us and come and see the home.

- Care Home
We are The Hollies Rest Home in Southport. We care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people with a physical disability. What we provide is residential care rather than nursing care, and we are straightforward with families about the difference so that nobody moves in somewhere unable to meet their needs. Within it, we help with washing, dressing and getting about safely, support people with medication, provide proper meals and make sure nobody is left alone all day unless that is what they prefer. The home is run around the people living in it. Nobody is woken to suit a rota, mealtimes bend around the person, and how somebody spends the day is their own business. Some like the lounge and the conversation that fills it, others would rather keep to their own room. Dementia care here rests on knowing the individual. We learn about the work somebody did, the family they raised and the routines that steady them, and we use that rather than correcting anybody about the present. We keep families in the picture, ring early when concerned, and welcome visitors whenever they want to come. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent CQC overall rating is good. Please get in touch to look round.

- Care Home
We are Avalon Care Home, a residential care home in Southport. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions or an eating disorder, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. We also offer respite stays. A home supporting that many different needs only works if it takes people one at a time, so that is what we try to do. Each person has their own plan, built with them and with the people who know them, covering how they like to be supported, what they want to keep doing for themselves and what matters to them beyond care. We would rather change an arrangement that is not working than defend it. We should be open about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have taken the findings seriously, we have shared them with our staff, our residents and their families, and we are working through them steadily rather than looking for a quick fix. We are glad to talk through what has changed and what is still in progress. If you are considering a care home in Southport, come and visit us. Ask difficult questions, speak to the people who live here, and form your own view of how we respond.

- Care Home
Dovehaven Residential Care Home is in Southport, Sefton, and provides a home for older people who need support with daily living. We care for residents living with dementia or a mental health condition, people with a physical disability and those living with a visual or hearing impairment, and we also support younger adults. Respite stays are available for shorter periods. We want daily life here to feel ordinary. Residents choose when to get up, how to spend their time and what they want to eat. Meals are cooked on the premises and preferences are remembered, down to how somebody takes their tea. There is company for those who want it and quiet for those who do not. Our staff take time to learn what helps a particular resident feel settled and what unsettles them, which matters enormously for anyone living with dementia or managing a mental health condition. For residents with a sensory impairment we make sure they are not left out of their own day. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission. We would rather say that plainly than leave it unsaid, and we are happy to talk you through how we work, how we train our staff and how we check our own standards. Families are welcome at any reasonable time. Please get in touch if you would like to visit.

At Benridge Residential Care Home in Southport, Sefton, we provide a genuine home for the people who live with us. We are a care home that supports older adults across a wide range of needs, and we take real pride in getting to know each resident as an individual rather than simply addressing a diagnosis or a care plan. Our team is experienced in supporting people living with dementia, mental health conditions, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments. We also provide residential care for those affected by eating disorders and alcohol or drug misuse, and we offer respite care for people who need a shorter stay, whether that is to recover, recharge, or simply to give a family carer some breathing space. We know that moving into a care home, or supporting a loved one to do so, can feel like a significant step. Our approach is to make that transition as straightforward and as comfortable as possible. We take time to understand what matters to each person, what their routines look like, what they enjoy, and how they prefer to be supported. That understanding shapes everything we do day to day. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as Good, and we see that as a reflection of the consistency and attentiveness that our staff bring to their work every single day. We do not stand still on the strength of that rating though. We are always looking at how we can do things better and how we can make life here feel richer and more connected for the people in our care. If you would like to find out more about Benridge or come and have a look around, we would be very happy to hear from you. We welcome visits and are always glad to have an honest conversation about whether we might be the right fit.

Marina is a residential care home in Southport. Those living here include older people, many living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We also offer respite stays. Most of what makes a care home good happens quietly and every day. Food people want to eat. Being helped to the bathroom without waiting. Laundry that comes back. Knowing the name of whoever is on this evening. Somebody noticing that you have been quieter than usual for a few days. We put our effort there rather than into anything that reads impressively at a distance. Where a resident communicates differently, whether because of a sensory impairment or for any other reason, we deal with that properly rather than half doing it, since a great deal else depends on getting it right. For residents with physical disabilities we plan the practical side around what somebody can still manage themselves rather than what is quickest for us, because independence given up for convenience is rarely handed back. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Good is not the same as finished, and we try to remember that.

Argyle Park Care is a residential care home in Southport, providing a permanent home for adults who need care and support with everyday life. We aim for a household where people are known properly rather than looked after efficiently. Our care is residential rather than nursing. We help with personal care, medication, meals, mobility and company, and we bring in community health professionals when something more clinical is needed. Many of our residents live with dementia, and we rely on familiar staff, a routine that stays where it is and reassurance repeated as often as it is wanted. We support residents living with mental health conditions, where a calm environment and early attention to changes matter greatly, and residents with physical disabilities or a visual or hearing impairment, adapting how we communicate and how we help people move about. We support younger adults too, planning their interests and routines on their own terms. Respite stays are available, giving family carers a real break and letting somebody try the home before a permanent decision is made. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please visit on an ordinary day and form your own impression of the place.

Here at Abbotsbury, we provide residential care for people in the heart of Southport, Sefton. We are proud to have received a "Good" rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the genuine commitment of everyone who works here to supporting our residents well. We care for a wide range of people, including older adults, those living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, and individuals with physical disabilities. Whatever brings someone to our door, we try to understand what matters to them as an individual and build their support around that. Living with dementia can be a particularly challenging experience, both for the person themselves and for the people who love them. Acacia Court is a residential care home in Southport. We support older people who need help with daily life, including many living with dementia, people with mental health needs, people with physical disabilities and younger adults. We also offer respite stays. Supporting people with quite different needs works because we plan around each person rather than running the house to one pattern. Everyone here has their own plan, agreed with them and with anyone they want involved, covering not just the help they need but what they want their days to hold. The basics apply to everybody. People choose when to get up, what to eat and how much company they want. Privacy is respected, personal care is given quietly and at the person's own pace, and rooms are furnished with people's own belongings. For residents living with dementia, consistency is what helps, so we keep staffing settled and learn each person's history properly. Where somebody has mental health needs, we agree in advance what a difficult period looks like for them and what they would like us to do about it. Health needs are managed alongside local GPs and community teams, and families hear from us early when anything changes. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and visit us in Southport.

Boscobel provides residential care in Southport for older people and younger adults. We support people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autism, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people who have sight or hearing loss, and we also take planned respite stays. We treat this as a home first and a care setting second. The people living here have their own rooms, their own routines and a genuine say in how the place runs, and our staff fit around them rather than running everybody to one timetable. Support covers personal care, medicines, meals, money and the practical work of a household, and we stand back wherever somebody can manage without us. The detail is where most of the real work lies. How a person communicates, what makes an environment feel manageable, how much warning they need before something changes, which parts of the day they want to handle alone, and how they want to be helped are all things we learn from the person rather than assume. For residents living with dementia we keep the day familiar and the pace gentle. Respite stays give family carers a proper rest and let people see what we are like before making a longer decision. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Alongside this, we achieved Good ratings across the Safe, Effective, Caring, and Well-led domains, giving families confidence that every aspect of life at Cedar Grange is thoughtfully considered and consistently delivered. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the mix of emotions that comes with it. Our aim is a home where people are known properly rather than simply looked after. That takes staff who stay long enough to learn somebody's history, habits and preferences, and care planned with the person rather than written about them. Help is given with washing and dressing, with moving about safely, with medication and with eating and drinking well, and it is given without hurry. For those living with dementia we keep routines steady and surroundings familiar, adjust how we communicate rather than expecting the person to adjust to us, and pay attention to what somebody is telling us when words have become unreliable. Families usually know a great deal about what works, so we ask them and we listen. The home is somewhere people live. Rooms are personalised, meals are cooked here with a genuine choice, there is company for those who want it and quiet for those who do not, and visitors are welcome without ceremony. Respite and short stays can be arranged. If you would like to look round, please telephone us and we will arrange a time.

- Care Home
Birkdale Tower is a residential care home in Southport. We provide a permanent home for older people and for younger adults who can no longer manage on their own, including people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. The care we give is residential rather than nursing. Staff are on duty day and night to help with personal care, dressing, medication, meals and the practical business of the day, while district nurses and local doctors look after clinical needs. For many people that combination is enough, and it costs them far less of their independence than a hospital or nursing setting would. Dementia care here rests on consistency. The same faces, the same rhythm to the day and surroundings that make sense will settle somebody far more reliably than any activity programme. We take time to learn about a person's working life, family and habits, because that is what lets us make sense of things when words start to fail them. Southport is a pleasant place to grow old in and we get people out into it when they want to go, whether that is the shops, the gardens or the front. Respite stays are available for planned breaks and for recovery after illness. If you would like to see Birkdale Tower, please ring and arrange a time that suits you.

- Care Home
We at Northern Counties Eventide Home offer compassionate residential care in the welcoming coastal town of Southport, providing a true home from home for older people, younger adults, and those living with dementia across Sefton and the wider North West. Nestled within the PR postcode area, our home benefits from the gentle pace and familiar charm that Southport is so well loved for. The setting offers residents the comfort of a residential neighbourhood whilst remaining close to the amenities, green spaces, and seaside character that make this part of Merseyside so special. We have created an environment where warmth, familiarity, and dignity sit at the heart of daily life, with comfortable communal areas where residents can socialise, relax, and enjoy quieter moments alike. Our specialisms span older person care, general residential care, dementia care, and support for younger adults. In practice, this means our team takes the time to understand each resident as an individual, building care around their personal history, preferences, and routines. For families of those living with dementia, this person centred approach offers real reassurance, with familiar faces, gentle structure, and meaningful daily activities helping to nurture wellbeing. For younger adults in our care, we focus on supporting independence, choice, and the pursuit of personal interests, whilst our older residents enjoy companionship, attentive support, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing help is always close by. Families can take genuine comfort from our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection, completed in February 2025, which awarded us an overall rating of Good. We also achieved a Good rating across every individual domain, including Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. This consistent recognition reflects the steady, thoughtful approach our team brings to every aspect of life at the home, from the way care is delivered to the way the home is managed and how residents and relatives are listened to. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight that comes with it. If you are exploring residential or dementia care in Southport for someone you love, we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask questions, and discover whether our home might be the right next chapter for your family.

- Care Home
Here at Thomas Henshaw Court, we are a care home based in Southport, Sefton, and we are proud to provide a warm and genuinely homely environment for the people who live with us. We specialise in older person care, residential care, dementia care, and respite care. Whether someone is moving in with us on a permanent basis or staying for a shorter period of rest and recovery, we do our very best to make sure they feel comfortable, valued, and at ease from the very first day. Dementia care is something we take seriously and approach thoughtfully. We understand how much this affects not just the individual but also their family, and we work hard to create a calm, familiar and reassuring atmosphere that supports wellbeing every single day. For those coming to us for respite, we know it can feel like a big step, so we focus on making that transition as smooth and stress free as possible. Our most recent Care Quality Commission rating is good, and that matters to us, not as something to simply display, but as a reflection of the care and attention our team brings to their work each day. We hold ourselves to that standard consistently, and we are always looking at how we can do things better for the people we support. We believe that good care comes down to knowing someone as a person, understanding their routines, their preferences, their history, and building genuine trust over time. Families are always welcome here, and we encourage them to stay closely involved in the lives of their loved ones. If you would like to find out more about life at Thomas Henshaw Court or come and have a look around, please do get in touch. We would love to hear from you.

Good Companions EMI Residential Care Home is in Southport. We provide residential care to older people whose needs include dementia and mental ill health, and we also support younger adults. Respite stays are available too. Caring well for people whose difficulties include confusion, memory loss or mental distress is a particular job, and we have built the house around it rather than treating it as an extra. The day follows a recognisable pattern so that people are not constantly working out what is happening. The same familiar staff are around, because a known face settles somebody faster than any explanation. People keep their own belongings and habits, and where somebody is anxious, or looking for a person who is no longer alive, we stay with them and go at their pace rather than correcting them. We work closely with community mental health colleagues so that what happens here fits with the rest of a person's care. We also support people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and adults recovering from eating disorders. Food is cooked here and people are asked what they would like, and visitors are welcome without appointment. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please arrange to visit.

- Care Home
We are Garswood, a residential care home in Southport. We care for older people, including many living with dementia and people with a physical disability. What we provide is residential care rather than nursing care, and we say so plainly to families at the outset so that nobody moves somewhere unable to meet their needs. Within it, we help with washing, dressing and moving about safely, support people with medication, provide proper meals and make sure nobody spends the day alone unless that is their preference. The home runs at the pace of its residents. Nobody is woken to suit a rota, mealtimes bend around the person, and how the day is spent is a matter for the individual. Some people like the lounge and the conversation that fills it, others would rather keep to their own room. Dementia care here depends on knowing the person. We learn about the work somebody did, the family they raised and the routines that settle them, and we work with all of that rather than correcting anybody about the present. Our staff know residents well enough to notice when somebody is quieter or eating less than usual, and we ring families early rather than waiting. Visitors are welcome whenever they want to come. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent CQC overall rating is good. Please get in touch to look round.

We at Chase Heys Resource Centre offer warm, welcoming residential care in the heart of Southport, providing a genuine home from home for older people and younger adults who need a little extra support with daily life. Set within the Sefton community and easily reached from across the PR postcode area, our centre benefits from the friendly, coastal atmosphere that Southport is known for. The surrounding neighbourhood offers a peaceful backdrop for residents, whilst remaining well connected for family and friends who wish to visit regularly. Our environment has been thoughtfully arranged to feel comfortable and familiar, with communal spaces that encourage companionship and quieter areas for those who prefer a moment of calm. At the heart of what we do is person centred residential care, delivered with kindness, patience and respect. We support older people with a wide range of needs, including those living with dementia, and we understand how important continuity, routine and gentle reassurance can be. Our team takes time to learn each resident's history, preferences and personality, so that daily life feels natural rather than clinical. For families, this means the comfort of knowing your loved one is treated as an individual, not simply a name on a care plan. Alongside long term residential support, we also welcome younger adults who benefit from a supportive living environment, and we offer respite care for those needing a shorter stay. Respite can be a lifeline for family carers, whether it is arranged to cover a holiday, recovery after a hospital stay, or simply a well earned break. Whatever the reason, guests staying with us for a short period receive the same warm welcome and attentive care as our permanent residents. Our approach to dementia care focuses on dignity, familiarity and meaningful engagement. We recognise that every person's experience of dementia is unique, and we work closely with families to build a picture of what brings comfort, joy and reassurance to their relative. From favourite music and cherished photographs to simple daily routines, these small details make a significant difference to wellbeing. The Care Quality Commission has rated us Good overall, with Good ratings across all five key areas: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. This consistent standard reflects our ongoing commitment to providing care that families can trust. It means our practices are safe, our staff are effective in supporting residents, our approach is genuinely caring, we respond thoughtfully to individual needs, and the centre is guided by attentive leadership. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the mixture of emotions that comes with it. If you are exploring options for a loved one in Southport or the wider Sefton area, we would be delighted to speak with you, answer your questions, and arrange a visit so you can see for yourself the warmth and care that define life at Chase Heys Resource Centre.

- Care Home
Dovehaven House is a residential care home in Southport. We provide a home for older people and for younger adults who need support with everyday life, and caring for people living with dementia is a large part of what we do. We are not a nursing home, and it is worth being clear about that. What we offer is residential care: help with washing and dressing, medication given on time, meals cooked here, laundry done, and staff on duty through the night as well as the day. Doctors and district nurses come in when clinical care is needed. For most people that turns out to be the right level of support, because it removes the effort and the worry without removing the independence. Dementia care rests on consistency and on knowing the person. A familiar order to the day, the same faces turning up and surroundings that are easy to read will settle somebody more surely than any programme of activities. We take time to learn about a person's working life, family and habits, because that is what explains them to us when words begin to fail. Southport is a pleasant place to grow old in and we help people get out into it. Respite and short stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Do come and see us.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Southport
What a Dementia Registration Means
All twenty four providers listed here are residential care homes registered to support people living with dementia. In practice that means accommodation, meals and personal care delivered by staff who are meant to understand how memory loss, disorientation and changes in mood shape an ordinary day. It does not mean nursing care, which requires a different registration. The distinction matters when a diagnosis sits alongside a physical health condition needing regular clinical attention.
Making Sense of the Published Ratings
Seventeen of the homes hold a Good rating, five are rated Requires Improvement and one is rated Inadequate, while one has yet to receive a first rating. Where a home carries a poor judgement, the report itself is essential reading rather than a reason to dismiss it without looking, since it will say precisely what the inspectors found and how recently. Each report separates safety, effectiveness, caring, responsiveness and leadership, and a home may be strong in some of these while falling short in others. Check the inspection date too, because management can change considerably in a year or two.
Signs of Good Dementia Support
Much of what matters shows itself within ten minutes of arriving. Look at whether residents appear occupied rather than parked in front of a television, whether staff crouch down to speak to people at eye level, and whether the building helps someone find a bathroom without having to ask. Secure outdoor space that can be used freely is a good sign, as are lounges quiet enough to hold a conversation in. Ask about dementia training, how often agency staff are used and whether familiar faces work the same shifts, because consistency is worth a great deal when memory is unreliable.
Choosing between dementia care homes in Southport
Asking for a Care Needs Assessment
A care needs assessment sets down formally what help someone needs, and anyone who appears to need support can request one free of charge, whatever their savings. Families can approach Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council to arrange it, and a relative providing care can ask for a separate assessment of their own needs. The written outcome is useful even when a family expects to pay privately, because it gives any home a clear account of what is required before a placement is discussed.
Fees, Contributions and Timing
Dementia care is usually charged as a weekly fee covering the room, meals and personal care, with the figure often reflecting the amount of supervision someone needs. Where eligible needs are identified and a financial assessment shows capital below the relevant threshold, the council may contribute, with the person paying an assessed amount from income. Where needs stem mainly from health rather than social care, continuing healthcare funding is assessed separately by the health service. Families paying privately should ask for written confirmation of the fee, what falls outside it and how much notice precedes an increase. Because assessments and waiting lists both take time, starting early keeps more options open than waiting until a move becomes urgent.
Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Southport
How many dementia care homes are there in Southport?
Southport has 24 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 49 CQC registered care homes in Southport: 17 Good, 5 Requires improvement, 1 Inadequate, 1 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
Which dementia care homes in Southport were inspected most recently?
Dalemain House (22 September 2025), Ellerslie Court (17 July 2025) and Northern Counties Eventide Home Limited (25 February 2025) have the most recent CQC reports.
Which providers offer dementia care in Southport?
Twenty four providers appear on this page, each registered with the Care Quality Commission as a residential care home supporting people with dementia. Seventeen are rated Good, five Requires Improvement and one Inadequate, with one awaiting a first rating. Vacancies change from week to week, so contacting several homes at once is sensible. Every profile below sets out the registration details and links through to the published inspection report.
What should families ask when visiting a dementia care home in Southport?
Ask what dementia training staff receive, how many are on duty overnight and how frequently agency cover is used. Find out how the day is structured, what happens when a resident becomes distressed or wants to walk about, and what the home tries before turning to medication. Ask to see a sample care plan and to hear how staff learn about someone's life before the diagnosis. It is also fair to ask what would happen if needs increased beyond what the home is registered to provide.
How does a dementia care home differ from a dementia nursing home?
A residential care home provides accommodation, meals and personal care, including help with washing, dressing and medication, given by care staff. A nursing home holds a registration that allows qualified nurses to be on site at all hours alongside that support. Every provider listed on this page is registered as a residential care home rather than a nursing home. Where dementia is accompanied by a clinical need such as complex wound care or unstable physical health, a nursing registration is normally required.
Can Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council fund a dementia care home placement?
It can, where a care needs assessment identifies eligible needs and a financial assessment shows capital below the relevant threshold. The council then contributes towards the weekly fee while the person pays an assessed contribution from their income. If needs are primarily clinical, continuing healthcare funding may be assessed by the health service instead. Both processes take time, which is why the request should be made well before a move becomes urgent.
How is a care needs assessment arranged in Southport?
Contact Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council, the authority responsible for adult social care here, and ask for a care needs assessment. It is free and available to anyone who appears to need support, whatever their income or savings. A practitioner will look at daily living, memory, safety, mobility and the help relatives are already providing. Keep the written outcome, as any home you approach will want the same information.
How early should the search for dementia care begin?
Starting several months ahead is ideal, because it leaves time to visit homes more than once rather than deciding in the days after a crisis. Waiting lists at well regarded homes often run to weeks, particularly for rooms suited to higher levels of need. Where council funding may be involved, allow further time for the assessments that come first. Reading through the profiles below early makes the eventual choice considerably calmer.
