- Care Home
Abbey Wood Lodge Care Home is a residential care home in Ormskirk, Lancashire. We support older people who need help with daily life, including many living with dementia, adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, people with mental health needs, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. We also offer respite stays. Supporting people this different from one another means planning around each person rather than running the house to a single pattern. Everyone here has their own plan, agreed with them and with anyone they want involved, covering not just the help they need but what they want their days to hold. The basics apply to everybody. People choose when to get up, what to eat and how much company they want. Privacy is respected, personal care is given quietly and at the person's own pace, and rooms are furnished with people's own belongings. Our team stays as settled as we can manage, because knowing somebody properly is what lets you notice an early change and understand what lies behind distress instead of simply containing it. Where a resident has limited sight or hearing, the way we approach and speak to them takes account of it. Health needs are managed with local GPs and community teams, and families hear from us early. The Care Quality Commission rated us good overall at our most recent inspection. Please come and look round.

- Care Home
Stocks Hall in Ormskirk is a residential care home providing a home for older people and for younger adults who need support with daily living, including people living with dementia. We offer permanent places and shorter respite stays. We run the home at the pace of the people in it. Breakfast happens when somebody wakes rather than when a trolley comes round, and the day takes the shape a person wants. The care covers help with washing and dressing, medication, meals cooked here, support with mobility, and somebody always around when a person needs them. For those living with dementia we keep the routine steady and the faces familiar, and we arrange the house so that it is easy to understand and to move about in. Our staff tend to stay with us, and that continuity does more to settle somebody than any particular method could. Ormskirk is home for most of the people living here, and family and friends are welcome whenever they wish to come. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please ring us if you would like to come and look round.

- Care Home
Courtfield Lodge is a residential care home in Ormskirk. We look after older people who need daily care, including many people living with dementia, and we also support younger adults who need residential care. The house runs at a human pace. People get up when they wake, eat food they recognise and enjoy, and spend their days in whatever way suits them, in company or quietly on their own. For someone living with dementia, that steadiness is a large part of the care itself, along with familiar faces and enough time in the day that nobody is hurried through anything. We would rather adapt our routine to a person than expect the person to adapt to ours, and relatives are welcome whenever they want to come. Respite stays are part of what we offer too, giving a family carer a proper rest or supporting somebody through a period of recovery after a hospital stay. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. We were pleased with it, though the more useful question is whether people look settled and comfortable here week after week, and that is the one we keep asking. If you are looking for a home for yourself or someone close to you, please come and see us on an ordinary day and ask us whatever you want to know.

- Care Home
Aughton Park is a residential care home in Ormskirk, Lancashire, caring for older people, including many living with dementia. Families usually reach us tired. The decision to move a relative into a care home is rarely taken lightly and often follows a long stretch of managing at home with too little help. One of the most useful things we can do early is take some of that weight off, be honest about what we can and cannot offer, and make it possible for a daughter or a husband to go back to being family rather than a carer who never gets an evening off. For the person moving in, the first weeks are what count. We want to know how they have always run their day, what they are proud of, who they want to hear from, what unsettles them and what makes an afternoon good. We write it down, we use it, and we keep correcting it as we learn. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Anyone considering Aughton Park is welcome to visit and take their time over it.

- Care Home
Hillcroft Residential Care Home is a care home in Ormskirk, Lancashire. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, we support people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. One of the things we would encourage any family to look at is what people here actually do between breakfast and bedtime. An activities board is easy to produce. A day with something in it that a particular person cares about takes more thought. We would rather somebody spent the afternoon doing one thing they have always enjoyed than sat through a group session arranged for the sake of having one. So we ask people what they used to do, what they still want to do and what they would rather be left out of, and we plan around that. Some residents want company most of the day, others want their own room and a quiet hour with the radio, and neither is treated as a problem. For those living with dementia, we work from the person's history rather than their diagnosis. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit if you are considering care locally, and come at an ordinary time of day.

- Care Home
At Arranmore Park Rest Home in Ormskirk, Lancashire, we provide residential care for older people, adults living with dementia, and those with physical disabilities or visual and hearing impairments. We also welcome younger adults and offer respite care for those who need a shorter stay, whether to recover, to give family members a break, or simply to try us out before committing to a permanent move. We are proud that our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as Good overall. That rating matters to us, not as something to frame on a wall, but because it reflects the day to day experience of the people who live here. We take it seriously and we work hard to maintain and build on it. Life at Arranmore Park is shaped around the people who call it home. We get to know each resident properly, understanding not just their care needs but their routines, their preferences, their histories and what makes them feel comfortable and at ease. For residents living with dementia, that personal knowledge is especially important, and we put real thought into how we support people through the changes that condition can bring, while always maintaining their dignity and sense of self. We know that choosing a care home is rarely straightforward, and we never underestimate what that decision means for residents and their families. We try to be as open and approachable as possible throughout the process, and that does not change once someone moves in. Families are always welcome, and we encourage them to stay involved in the life of their loved one. If you would like to find out more or come and have a look around, please do get in touch. We would be very happy to show you what Arranmore Park is all about.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Ormskirk
Where the ratings are uniform the useful questions all turn local: who works here, how long have they stayed, and what happens on a difficult afternoon. All six providers here are registered for personal care rather than nursing, which means the comparison between them is about skill and consistency rather than about what each is permitted to do. Training, staff turnover and the handling of distress are the three things worth pressing hardest on.
Looking behind matching ratings
Open each report and compare the assessed areas one by one, because a home judged strong on safety and merely adequate on leadership is a different proposition from one where that is reversed. Check the inspection dates too, since a home visited recently and a home visited some years ago are not being described on equal terms. Where a report is old, ask who owns the home now and how long the current manager and team have been in place. Arranmore Park Rest Home, Abbey Wood Lodge Care Home, Courtfield Lodge, Aughton Park, Stocks Hall Residential Home and Hillcroft Residential Care Home each have a profile here carrying that detail.
What dementia care asks of a home
Ask what dementia training staff receive, how often it is refreshed, and who leads on it within the home. Watch how a member of staff responds to someone confused or upset, because one exchange of that kind tells you more than any written policy. Ask how the home learns a person's history, habits and preferences, and how it handles walking at night, broken sleep and reluctance to eat. Visiting in the late afternoon, when confusion is often most pronounced, is more revealing than a quiet morning appointment.
Choosing between dementia care homes in Ormskirk
Where the assessment fits in
Anyone who appears to need care and support has a right to have those needs assessed, whatever their finances. For people living in Ormskirk this is arranged through Lancashire County Council, which is responsible for adult social care assessment and for funded support. Where dementia is involved, describe the harder days rather than an average one, so that the assessment reflects how the condition affects daily life at its most demanding. A relative providing care can request a carer's assessment in their own name alongside it.
Fees, and who contributes what
Each home sets its own weekly fee, shaped by the room as much as by the support, so a written quotation from the home is the only figure worth planning around. The financial assessment then establishes how the cost divides between the council and the person receiving care, weighing income, savings and property. Where the council contributes it will have a view on what counts as a reasonable rate, and any gap should be identified before a move rather than afterwards. Ask what the fee excludes, and whether increasing needs would change it.
Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Ormskirk
How many dementia care homes are there in Ormskirk?
Ormskirk has 6 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 9 CQC registered care homes in Ormskirk: 6 Good. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
Which dementia care homes in Ormskirk were inspected most recently?
Courtfield Lodge (29 April 2026), Hillcroft Residential Care Home (24 November 2023) and Arranmore Park Rest Home (30 March 2022) have the most recent CQC reports.
Which providers near Ormskirk offer this care?
Six providers serve Ormskirk and all of them appear below, including Arranmore Park Rest Home, Abbey Wood Lodge Care Home, Courtfield Lodge, Aughton Park and Hillcroft Residential Care Home. Every one is registered with the Care Quality Commission, and the judgements break down as six Good. Rooms come and go week by week, so ring to check rather than assuming from the listing. The profiles hold the inspection detail behind each rating.
What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?
Think of it as two tiers of registration rather than two kinds of building. The lower tier covers personal care, washing, dressing, medication and daily routine, delivered by care staff; the upper tier adds registered nurses and the clinical work that depends on them. Every home shown here for Ormskirk is registered for personal care rather than nursing care. A home will tell you plainly which conditions it is set up to manage if you ask.
What should we ask before choosing in Ormskirk?
Begin with who will actually be looking after the person: numbers on shift by day and night, agency use, and how long the team has been together. Ask how the home handles walking at night, broken sleep and reluctance to eat, since those are the real tests. Ask how preferences about food, routine and sleep are recorded and who is responsible for them. Then ask about the last inspection and what the home did in response.
How is a care needs assessment arranged in Ormskirk?
Start by contacting the adult social care team at Lancashire County Council and asking for an assessment of the person's care needs. Whether you expect to fund care yourself makes no difference to the entitlement. When you describe the situation, use a bad day rather than an average one, since that is what the assessment needs to capture. Note the date and the name of whoever takes the call, and chase it if a few weeks pass without contact.
Will Lancashire County Council contribute to what this costs?
It depends on the outcome of two assessments carried out by Lancashire County Council: one of care needs, one of finances. The financial side weighs income, savings and property against national thresholds that change from time to time. If the council contributes, find out what rate it treats as standard, because the gap to a home's own fee has to be covered. Where the council does contribute, establish straight away whether its rate matches the home's price.
How early should we begin?
Sooner than you think, since a placement is often needed before anyone expected to need one. Early enquiries cost nothing and tell you a great deal about how a home communicates. They also give the assessments time to conclude before anything has to be decided. Where the situation is already urgent, say so plainly when you telephone, since homes sometimes keep a little flexibility in reserve.
