About Us
At Benridge Residential Care Home in Southport, Sefton, we provide a genuine home for the people who live with us. We are a care home that supports older adults across a wide range of needs, and we take real pride in getting to know each resident as an individual rather than simply addressing a diagnosis or a care plan.
Our team is experienced in supporting people living with dementia, mental health conditions, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments. We also provide residential care for those affected by eating disorders and alcohol or drug misuse, and we offer respite care for people who need a shorter stay, whether that is to recover, recharge, or simply to give a family carer some breathing space.
We know that moving into a care home, or supporting a loved one to do so, can feel like a significant step. Our approach is to make that transition as straightforward and as comfortable as possible. We take time to understand what matters to each person, what their routines look like, what they enjoy, and how they prefer to be supported. That understanding shapes everything we do day to day.
Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as Good, and we see that as a reflection of the consistency and attentiveness that our staff bring to their work every single day. We do not stand still on the strength of that rating though. We are always looking at how we can do things better and how we can make life here feel richer and more connected for the people in our care.
If you would like to find out more about Benridge or come and have a look around, we would be very happy to hear from you. We welcome visits and are always glad to have an honest conversation about whether we might be the right fit.

More about the care at Benridge Residential Care Home
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
Older residents judge a home by whether they are hurried, ignored or treated as capable adults. Benridge Residential Care Home in Southport is registered for older person care, which covers help with washing and dressing, medicines, meals, laundry and company. Ask what time people are helped up and settled, and whether those times can be varied for someone who prefers a lie in. Ask how many staff work in the evening, how many are awake overnight, and how long call bells take to answer. Inspectors rated the home good when they visited in April 2022. Weekly fees in the North West commonly run from £800 to £1050.
Dementia
Calm surroundings and staff who do not argue with a confused resident are what make dementia care work. Benridge Residential Care Home holds a dementia registration, which says what it may accept and not how it behaves. Ask about training, how distress and agitation are handled, and whether anyone is medicated to manage behaviour. Ask whether the layout and any garden allow safe walking, and how rooms are personalised with familiar things. It is sensible to ask how the home supports people as dementia advances so that a further move can be avoided.
Mental Health
Stability tends to come from the small structure of a week rather than from any specialist intervention. Benridge Residential Care Home is registered to support adults with mental health conditions. Ask what training and supervision the staff have, how the home works with community mental health services, and what the plan is if someone becomes unwell.
Physical Disability
Lifts, level access and a bathroom that can be used with help decide how independent a disabled resident can be. Benridge Residential Care Home is registered to support people with a physical disability, though the register says nothing about the premises. Ask about hoists, assisted bathing, wheelchair access and how personal care is managed with dignity.
Visual / Hearing Impairment
Lighting, contrast and consistent staff habits do more for failing sight than any piece of equipment. Benridge Residential Care Home is registered to support people with a visual or hearing impairment. Ask about signage, whether a hearing loop is fitted, how aids are maintained, and whether menus and letters can come in large print.
Eating Disorders
Eating disorders need mealtimes handled with structure and tact rather than confrontation, and progress is usually slow. Benridge Residential Care Home is registered in this area, so ask which clinicians are involved, how often a dietitian or specialist team reviews care, and how weight and physical health are monitored. Ask also how staff are supported to respond to distress around food.
Respite Care
Families often discover that a short stay answers questions a hundred viewings cannot. Benridge Residential Care Home is registered for respite, usually of a week or two at a minimum, with popular dates taken early. Pack everyday clothes, toiletries and dispensed medication, and treat the visit as a trial of something permanent.
Residential Care
A residential home supplies daily living support, so meals, laundry, help with bathing and dressing, prompting of medicines and company are the staple. Benridge Residential Care Home is registered on that basis and employs no nurse on site, with health needs met by visiting GPs and district nurses. Ask what an average day contains and who arranges activities, since none of that appears on the public register. Ask too what would happen if a resident's health became clinically complex. Sefton usually funds a place at about £650 to £800 a week, below the typical private range. It is worth asking what the fee includes and whether a top up would be required.
