    • Care Home

Franklin House is a residential care home in Oldham. We provide accommodation and personal care for older people, including a good number of people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for those who need care for a short while. We want this to feel like somewhere people live, not somewhere they have been sent. Before anyone moves in we spend time learning about them: the work they did, the people who matter, what they like to eat, when they prefer to rise and go to bed, and what they would still like to manage on their own. That goes into their care plan next to the practical needs, and we return to it as things change rather than filing it away. Dementia care asks for patience above all. We keep the shape of the day familiar, we give people time instead of hurrying them, and when someone becomes distressed we look for the reason rather than treating it as behaviour to be handled. Families often hold the detail that unlocks this, so we ask, and we listen. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We treat that as a standard to keep meeting, and we regularly ask residents and relatives whether we are meeting it. Visitors are always welcome. If you would like to see Franklin House, please get in touch.

    • Care Home

Elizabeth House is a residential care home in Oldham. Those living here include older people, many living with dementia, and people managing mental health conditions. We support younger adults as well, and we offer respite stays. Having a range of ages and needs under one roof means we plan for people individually rather than running one routine and hoping it fits. What a resident in their forties wants from a Wednesday afternoon is rarely what somebody forty years older wants, and treating those as the same thing serves neither. We take the ordinary business of a household seriously. Food, warmth, laundry that comes back, privacy, being spoken to as an adult, having a say in what happens. Where somebody can do something for themselves we support them to keep doing it, even when stepping in would be faster. Dementia care here depends on knowing the person. We ask relatives for the working life, the places and the music, because those are what still connect when a good deal else has gone. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. We ask residents and their families regularly what we should be doing differently, and we act on the answers rather than recording them.

    • Care Home

We are Hadfield House, a residential care home in Oldham. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people managing a mental health condition. What we provide is residential care rather than nursing care, and we say so plainly to families at the outset so that nobody moves somewhere unable to meet their needs. Within it, we help with washing, dressing and moving about safely, support people with medication, provide proper meals and make sure nobody spends their days alone unless that is what they prefer. The home runs at the pace of its residents. Nobody is woken to suit a rota, mealtimes bend around the person, and how the day is spent is a matter for the individual. For people living with dementia, we work patiently and with their history in view. Familiar faces, an unhurried pace and a routine that makes sense to the person do more good than any activity programme. Where somebody is managing a mental health condition, we work steadily and keep in contact with community teams and GPs so that support joins up. Our staff know residents well enough to notice when somebody is quieter or eating less than usual, and we ring families early rather than waiting. Visitors are welcome whenever they want to come. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Please get in touch to look round.

    • Care Home

Park House Residential Care Home is a residential care home in Oldham, caring for older people and for people living with dementia. We also offer respite stays for those who need care for a few weeks, whether after a hospital stay or to give a family carer a rest. Our approach to dementia care is built on knowing people well. We ask families to tell us about the person before dementia became part of the picture, their work, their family, the food they like and the routines that have always steadied them. That information is not filed away, it is what our staff use every day to keep someone calm, occupied and treated as themselves rather than as a set of symptoms. Days here are not heavily programmed. Some people want company, music and something to do. Others want a quiet room and a cup of tea in peace. We think both are perfectly good ways to spend an afternoon, and we would rather follow the person than the timetable. Families are part of the home. Oldham is where most of our residents have spent their lives, and we keep those connections going wherever we can. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would encourage anyone considering Park House to visit, look around properly and ask us the difficult questions.

Fernbank provides residential care in Oldham for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people with mental health needs, people with physical disabilities and people who have sight or hearing loss. We also take planned respite stays. Our aim is that people carry on being themselves here, with the help they need arranged quietly around them. Residents choose when to get up, what to wear, where to sit and who to spend time with, and our staff know those preferences well enough not to have to ask twice. Practically we help with personal care, medicines, meals and all the business of running the place. For residents living with dementia, familiarity does most of the work. The same faces, a recognisable day, and time to do things at the pace somebody can manage. For residents with mental health needs, consistency and a lack of fuss count for a great deal, along with staff who notice early when somebody is less well than they were. Where somebody has a physical disability or sight and hearing loss, we agree together how they want to be helped and approached. Respite stays give family carers a genuine break and let people try us without any longer commitment. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask residents and relatives regularly how we are doing.

Longwood Lodge is a residential care home in Oldham. We provide a home for older people, including those living with dementia and people with a physical disability, and we also offer respite stays for shorter periods of care. What we aim to offer is a settled, familiar place where people keep their own routines and their own things around them. We ask about preferences in detail, because how somebody likes their morning to go is not a small matter when it shapes the rest of their day. For residents living with dementia, steadiness is what helps most, so we keep routines consistent and staff familiar and we take the time to understand what somebody is telling us when the words have become difficult. We should be straightforward with you about where we stand. Our most recent overall judgement from the Care Quality Commission was that we require improvement. We accepted the findings rather than arguing with them, we have a plan of work in place and we are progressing it alongside colleagues in health and the local authority. Families deserve to hear that from us directly rather than discovering it later. If you are considering Longwood Lodge for someone you love, please come and visit. Look round properly, speak to our staff and residents, and ask us exactly what the concerns were and what we have changed since. We will answer plainly rather than steering you towards a brochure.

    • Care Home

We are a residential care home in Oldham, providing a home for older people who need support with everyday life. That includes people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We also take respite bookings for shorter stays. Moving into a care home is a considerable change and we do not treat it lightly. The first weeks matter, so we spend them learning how somebody has always done things. When they like to wake and go to bed, what they eat and what they will not touch, whether they want company or their own space, what they did for work or for pleasure. Care that ignores all that may be perfectly safe, but it will not feel like living anywhere. Sensory loss changes what good care looks like in very practical ways. How you approach a person, how you announce yourself rather than appearing at a shoulder, how a room is arranged, how much time you leave for a reply. Small adjustments, but they decide whether somebody feels part of what is going on around them. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families are welcome and we would much rather you came and formed your own view of the place. Please contact us and we will arrange a visit at a time that suits your family.

    • Care Home

At Care at Parkside, we provide residential care for older adults in the heart of Oldham, supporting people with a range of needs including dementia, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments. We also welcome younger adults and offer respite care for those who need a shorter stay, whether that is to recover after a hospital admission or to give family carers a well earned break. We know that moving into a care home, or even just considering it, can feel like a big step. Our aim is to make that transition as straightforward and as comfortable as possible, taking time to understand each person properly before they arrive and continuing to learn what matters to them once they are settled with us. Our team works hard to create an environment where residents feel genuinely at home. That means listening carefully, respecting individual routines and preferences, and involving people in decisions about their own care. Whether someone needs a high level of support or a lighter touch, we try to get the balance right. We were rated as requiring improvement by the Care Quality Commission, and we want to be honest about that. We have taken that feedback seriously and have been working through the areas identified with a clear focus on making real, lasting changes. We believe in being open with families and prospective residents about where we are on that journey, rather than glossing over it. Oldham is our community, and many of our residents have lived here all their lives. We think that matters. Familiar surroundings, local connections, and a team that genuinely knows the people in its care all make a difference to everyday wellbeing. If you would like to find out more or come in for a visit, we would be very happy to hear from you.

    • Care Home

Werneth Lodge is a residential care home in Oldham. We are home to older people, including many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We support younger adults too, and we offer respite stays. A good home is largely the accumulation of ordinary courtesies. Knocking. Explaining before doing. Remembering that somebody takes two sugars. Not talking over a person's head to a colleague. We work out how each person prefers to be spoken to and approached, and we hold to it. A member of staff who ignores that has already made the encounter harder. For residents with physical disabilities we plan the practical side around what somebody can still manage themselves rather than what is quickest for us. For those living with dementia we protect the routine and ask families for the history that makes a person make sense to us. Residents' rooms are theirs, and we treat them that way. We do not move furniture, tidy possessions or let ourselves in without knocking. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. We are glad of it, and we know it tells you nothing about whether you would like it here.

Abbey Hey Care Home is a care home in Oldham. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, and we support people living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Where sight or hearing has failed, a care home can very easily become a confusing and lonely place. So we make a point of the small habits that prevent that: saying who has come into the room, describing what is about to happen rather than assuming it is obvious, keeping belongings exactly where the person expects them, and making sure conversation does not stop simply because it has become harder work. The same practical attitude runs through the rest of what we do. People here decide when to get up, how to spend the day and how much company they want. Rooms belong to the people in them, and visitors come when it suits them. For those living with dementia, familiarity carries most of the weight. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and look round if you are considering care in Oldham.

Edge Hill Rest Home is a residential care home in Oldham. We support older people who need help with daily life, including many living with dementia, people with mental health needs, people with a visual or hearing impairment and younger adults. We also offer respite stays. We are small enough for everybody here to be known properly, and that is the basis of everything else. Our team notices when somebody eats less than usual, sleeps badly, seems low or becomes unsteady, and it gets acted on the same day rather than at a review in a month. Residents run their own days. When to get up and go to bed, what to eat, whether to sit with others or keep to their own room with their own things around them. Rooms hold people's own furniture and photographs and nobody comes in without knocking. For residents living with dementia, consistency is what helps, so we keep staffing settled and learn each person's history, which is what lets us make sense of what they are telling us. Where somebody has mental health needs, we agree in advance what a difficult patch looks like for them and what they would like us to do about it. Health needs are managed alongside local GPs and community teams, and families hear from us early. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. We at Chamber Mount are proud to offer a warm and welcoming residential care home in the heart of Oldham, where compassionate support meets a true sense of community. Nestled within the familiar surroundings of the OL postcode area, our home provides older people and younger adults alike with a place where dignity, comfort, and individuality are at the centre of everything we do. Set within the Oldham community in the North West, our home offers residents the reassurance of staying close to familiar neighbourhoods, local amenities, and the people they love. The setting has been thoughtfully arranged to feel less like an institution and more like a genuine home, where residents can enjoy peaceful communal spaces, relax in their own rooms, and benefit from the comforting rhythm of daily life in a supportive environment. Our care philosophy is built around the understanding that every resident arrives with their own story, preferences, and needs. We specialise in residential care for older people, alongside dedicated dementia care delivered with patience, understanding, and a focus on preserving identity and routine. For families navigating a dementia diagnosis, this means knowing that your loved one is supported by a team committed to gentle, person centred approaches that prioritise wellbeing and familiarity. We also welcome residents living with mental health needs, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments, adapting our support so that everyone feels included, heard, and respected. Our care extends to younger adults who require a residential setting tailored to their individual circumstances, and we offer respite care for those who need short term support, whether following a hospital stay or to give family carers a well deserved break. For relatives, this flexibility can be a lifeline, offering peace of mind that quality care is available when it is most needed. In practice, our specialisms mean residents experience care that adapts to them rather than the other way around. Whether it is supporting someone living with dementia through a familiar daily routine, assisting a resident with a visual impairment to navigate their surroundings with confidence, or providing sensitive mental health support, our approach is always grounded in respect and warmth. Chamber Mount has been rated Good overall by the Care Quality Commission, following its most recent inspection in March 2022. This rating extends across every domain assessed, with Good ratings achieved for being Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. For families, this consistent picture offers reassurance that the standards of safety, leadership, and compassion are upheld throughout every aspect of life at our home. It reflects a culture in which residents are listened to, kept safe, and supported by a team that takes pride in delivering care of a dependable standard. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that responsibility. If you are exploring options for a loved one in Oldham or the wider North West, we would be delighted to welcome you to learn more about life at Chamber Mount. Please get in touch to arrange a visit, ask questions, or simply talk through what your family is looking for. We are here to help you take the next step with confidence and care.

Avalon Park Care Home is a residential care home in Oldham, providing a permanent home and short stays for adults who need support with daily living. We care for older people and for younger adults. Some of those living here need help with personal care, mobility or medication. Many are living with dementia, and for them we keep things calm, familiar and unhurried, and we take the trouble to learn about a person's life so that staff have something real to talk about. We also support people living with a physical disability, paying attention to the practical details that make the day workable, from equipment to allowing enough time to do things properly. Respite stays are available, giving family carers a planned break while their relative stays somewhere staffed around the clock. We should be open with you about our regulator. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We do not think that is good enough. We have taken it seriously, there is work under way to put things right, and we would far rather discuss that honestly with families than have it come as a surprise. Avonleigh Gardens is a residential care home in Oldham. We provide a home for older people, including many living with dementia, and we also support some younger adults and offer respite stays for shorter periods of care. We want this to feel like somewhere people live rather than somewhere people have been placed. Residents bring their own furniture and photographs, keep their own routines and decide how the day runs. Some are up early and want company and conversation straight away. Others want their own room, a newspaper and a quiet afternoon. Neither needs explaining to us, and we plan around the person rather than around what suits a rota. Supporting people living with dementia is a large part of what we do, and steadiness is what helps most. Familiar faces, routines that change only when there is a reason, patience when words are hard to find, and a real effort to understand what somebody means rather than what they managed to say. Families are closely involved because they often hold the history that makes sense of the present. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. It reflects reliable everyday practice, which is what most families are genuinely looking for. Oaklands Rest Home is a residential care home in Oldham, providing a settled home for older people who need support with daily living. We care for residents living with dementia or a mental health condition and those with a visual or hearing impairment, and we offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period. We aim for an ordinary life with good support behind it. Residents choose when they get up, how they spend their days and what they eat. Meals are cooked on the premises and preferences are remembered. There is company and activity for those who enjoy it and no pressure on anyone who would rather have peace. Our staff take time to learn what helps a particular resident feel settled and what unsettles them, which matters greatly for anyone living with dementia or managing a mental health condition. For residents with a sensory impairment we take care that conversation and information actually reach them. We work closely with local GPs, community nurses and mental health teams so that health concerns are dealt with quickly, and we keep families properly informed. Relatives are welcome whenever it suits them. The Care Quality Commission most recently rated us good overall. If you are thinking about a move for yourself or a family member, please come and look round.

We are Dryclough Manor, a residential care home in Oldham. We look after older people, including those living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we also support younger adults. Respite stays are available. We aim for something domestic rather than institutional. People bring their own furniture and pictures, keep their own habits, and decide for themselves how their day runs. What time you wake, where you eat, whether you want company or would rather sit quietly: those are your decisions and they stay that way. A great deal of what makes a day here good is quite unremarkable, and we would rather describe it plainly than make grand claims. For people living with dementia we work with the person as they are now. Knowing their history, recognising early what tends to unsettle them and having the patience to go at their pace prevents a lot of distress before it begins. Where somebody has a physical disability or a sight or hearing impairment, we give proper attention to access and communication, so those needs are met without fuss and do not come to dominate the day. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable hour. Please ring us to arrange a visit.

Here at Anbridge Care Home in Oldham, we provide a warm and supportive environment where the people in our care genuinely feel at home. We understand that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we take that responsibility seriously. We support older adults across a range of needs, including residential care, dementia care, mental health support, care for those living with a physical disability, and support for those with visual or hearing impairment. We also offer respite care for those who need a shorter stay, whether to recover after a period of illness or to give family carers a well earned break. Our team gets to know each person as an individual, taking time to understand their history, their preferences and what matters most to them day to day. Good care, in our view, is built on genuine relationships and consistency. People feel settled when they know the faces around them and when their routines are respected. We are pleased that our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission resulted in an overall rating of Good, which reflects the effort our team puts in every day to maintain high standards across all areas of care and daily life. Oldham is our community too, and we value being rooted in the local area. Families are always welcome here, and we encourage people to stay connected with the people and places that are important to them. If you are considering Anbridge Care Home for yourself or someone close to you, we would be glad to have a conversation or welcome you for a visit so you can see for yourself what life is like here. Please do not hesitate to get in touch.

We are Royley House Care Home in Oldham. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we take respite bookings for shorter stays. We try to keep this domestic rather than institutional. People come with their own furniture, pictures and habits, and those come first. What time you wake, where you take your breakfast, whether you feel sociable today or would rather sit quietly with the radio on: those remain your decisions. A lot of what makes a day here good is quite ordinary, and it is worth saying so plainly. For people living with dementia, the work is in the detail. Knowing somebody's history and what they used to do. Recognising early what tends to unsettle them. Going at their pace rather than the rota's. Done properly, that prevents a great deal of distress before it starts. We also support what people can still manage for themselves, because losing that unnecessarily is very hard to reverse and is often what people fear most about moving in. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable hour, we tell them when something changes rather than waiting to be asked, and we say so plainly if we have got something wrong. Please ring us if you would like to visit.

Here at Medlock Court, we provide residential care for older adults in the heart of Oldham, and we take genuine pride in the community we have built within our home. Our team works hard every day to make sure each person who lives with us feels respected, comfortable and truly at home. We support a wide range of needs, including dementia care, residential care for older people, and care for younger adults living with a physical disability. We also offer respite care for those who need a short break or temporary support, whether that is to give a family carer some breathing space or to aid recovery after a period of illness. Whatever brings someone to us, we treat every individual as exactly that — an individual. Dementia care is an area we approach with particular thoughtfulness. We understand how unsettling life can feel for someone living with dementia, and equally how worrying it can be for their loved ones. Our team takes time to get to know each person, their history, their preferences and the small things that matter most to them, so that we can provide care that genuinely fits around their life rather than the other way around. We were rated Good by the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the consistency and reliability our residents and their families can expect from us. If you are considering Medlock Court for yourself or someone close to you, we would warmly encourage you to come and visit us. Millfield is a residential care home in Oldham. We provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, including people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for those needing care for a short period. Coming to live in a care home is a significant thing to do, and the first weeks matter more than any account of the building. We spend them learning about the person rather than settling them into our routine. What they did for a living, what they cannot be doing with, what time they have always had their breakfast, whether they would rather be in company or left in peace with the radio on. Those are small facts, and together they are most of what makes somewhere feel like home rather than somewhere you are staying. Dementia care rests on patience and a recognisable day. We avoid springing things on people, we keep routines familiar, and when somebody is distressed we go looking for the cause rather than simply trying to settle them. Relatives very often know exactly what helps, and we would far rather be told at the beginning. We take the practical side seriously too. Food worth looking forward to, medication handled carefully, prompt attention when somebody is unwell, and plain conversations with families when things change. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.

Oakdene Care Home is a residential home in Oldham. We provide care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people with visual or hearing impairment, people with eating disorders and people affected by alcohol or drug misuse. We offer respite stays alongside permanent places. We support a genuinely mixed group of people, and we plan for each of them separately rather than running one day that everyone has to fit into. For one resident a good day is calm, quiet and highly predictable; for another it is sociable and busy and out in Oldham. Both take thought to support properly. We help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and mobility, and we try to give only as much help as is genuinely wanted, because independence is easily eroded by being over helpful. Dementia care is a substantial part of our work, and we take time to learn each person's history and habits so that staff can respond to the feeling behind a difficult moment rather than simply the behaviour. Where we support people with eating disorders or the effects of alcohol or drug misuse, we work closely with the clinical teams involved and are clear about what is ours to do. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. You are welcome to visit Oakdene and see the home for yourself.

Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good, with Good ratings across the Safe, Caring, and Well led domains. This reflects the compassionate culture at the heart of our home and the trusting relationships our team builds with every resident. The CQC also identified areas within Effective and Responsive care where further development was noted, and we take those findings seriously as part of our ongoing commitment to improvement. We believe that honest reflection is part of delivering genuinely good care, and we continue to build on the strengths our residents and their families value most. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that choice. Many are living with dementia, and for them we keep the surroundings calm and familiar, give people time, and take the trouble to learn about their lives so that staff can be good company rather than merely helpful. We also support people living with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, adjusting how we communicate and how the building is used so that nobody is left out of what is going on. Respite stays are part of what we do. Sometimes a family carer needs a planned break, and sometimes somebody needs care for a few weeks after an illness before going home again. Shaw House Care Home is in Oldham. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss, and we offer respite stays. We aim to run a household rather than a facility. Residents bring their own furniture and pictures, keep the routines they have always had and decide how much they want to be involved in what is going on. Some want company from breakfast onwards. Others want the paper and their own room. Both are entirely reasonable. When somebody moves in we spend real time on their history and preferences, and we write it down so that everyone working here knows it. Care that changes depending on who is on shift is not care we would want for our own families. Dementia support rests on familiarity and on not hurrying anyone. We keep staffing as consistent as we can and we work out what reassures a particular resident, since it differs from person to person. Where sight or hearing is failing we pay attention to lighting, contrast, signage and equipment so that people stay part of what is happening. Meals are cooked here and residents have a say in the menu. Visitors are welcome through the day and can stay for a meal. Please come and look round, talk to the people who live here, and form your own view of the place.

Miller House Care Home is in Oldham, and we provide both residential and nursing care for older people, along with support for younger adults, for people with physical disabilities and for people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available as well. Having both kinds of care under one roof matters more than it might sound. It means that when somebody's health changes, they do not automatically have to move again and start over with strangers. Continuity of that sort is worth a great deal to people and to their families. Registered nurses are on duty at all hours, so medication is managed closely, wound care and long standing conditions are dealt with on site, and a change in a resident's health is generally noticed early because the person noticing knows them well. We work with GPs, district nurses, therapists and hospital teams. Dementia care is a significant part of our work, and we treat it as caring for a person rather than managing a condition. Knowing what somebody did for a living, what music they liked and how they took their tea is genuinely practical information once words become unreliable. For residents with physical disabilities the emphasis is on equipment that fits and transfers handled safely, and for those living with sight or hearing loss, unhurried communication matters most. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Ring us if you would like to visit.

    • Care Home

Stoneleigh House is a care home in Oldham. We provide residential care for older people, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available. We would rather be straight with you from the start. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us as requires improvement. We are not going to write around that. The findings were taken seriously, there is an improvement plan we are working through, and if you come and see us you should ask directly what has changed and what is still outstanding. You will get a plain answer. What has not changed is how we believe people should be treated. This is their home. Residents choose how their rooms look, when they get up, what they do with the day and who comes to see them. Because the people living here have genuinely different needs, we plan care one person at a time rather than running one routine and hoping it stretches. Where sight or hearing loss is part of the picture, habits matter more than equipment: saying who you are as you come into a room, leaving furniture where it belongs, checking that glasses and hearing aids are working. Genuine improvement comes from listening to residents and relatives and then acting rather than recording. That is where our attention sits.

    • Care Home

Laburnum House Shaw is a residential care home in Oldham, caring for older people who can no longer manage safely at home. We aim for the feel of a household rather than an institution, with people keeping their own routines, their own belongings and a real say in how their day goes. We support people living with dementia, and that work depends on continuity above all. Knowing what somebody's day used to look like, keeping as much of it as we can and understanding what sits behind distress rather than simply managing it is what makes the difference between a settled day and a difficult one. We also care for younger adults, and we plan their day around their own interests rather than around everybody else's. Respite stays are available too, for people who need care for a short period and for family carers who need a proper break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. The better test is the everyday evidence, whether people are up and occupied, whether mealtimes are sociable and whether relatives feel able to raise a concern early rather than saving it up. Please come and see for yourself.

    • Care Home

Stoneswood Residential Home is in Oldham. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss, and we offer respite stays. We try to run a household rather than an institution. Residents bring their own furniture and photographs, keep the routines they have always kept and decide for themselves how much they want to be part of what is going on. Nobody is walked to an activity they have not chosen. When somebody joins us we take time over their history and preferences, and we record it so that every member of staff knows it rather than only whoever did the assessment. Dementia support rests on familiarity and pace, so we keep staffing as consistent as we can, avoid unnecessary change and work out what settles a particular resident. Where sight or hearing is failing we pay attention to lighting, contrast, signage and equipment, and we check that glasses and hearing aids are actually being used and maintained, which is more often the problem than people expect. For residents with physical disabilities we look at how the building is arranged so that independence is protected where it can be. Meals are cooked here and residents have a say in the menu. Visitors are welcome through the day. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the home for yourself.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Oldham

A move into dementia care is usually decided when risks at home have grown beyond what visiting support can manage. The assessment is the right starting point, because it establishes what level of care is genuinely needed before anyone discusses cost.

The care needs assessment

Anyone who appears to need care and support is entitled to an assessment, whatever their savings, and there is no charge. It considers personal care, mobility, nutrition, memory, medication and the risks of remaining at home, and ends in a written record of what support is required. Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council Adult Social Care carries out that assessment and the financial assessment that decides what public funding contributes towards a placement. Where a diagnosis of dementia is involved, ask whether continuing healthcare funding has been considered, since some needs are met by the health service rather than by the council.

What the weekly fee reflects

Homes set their own fees, and specialist dementia support often means higher staffing levels, which is reflected in the price. The figure also depends on the room, the level of support included and whether nursing input forms part of the package. Ask for the fee in writing along with a list of anything charged separately, and ask how often it is reviewed. Where the council contributes, its rate may fall below the home's price, leaving a difference that has to be met from elsewhere, so establish that before a contract is signed.

Choosing between dementia care homes in Oldham

In dementia care the building matters less than the way staff work, and that is what a visit and a report should tell you.

Reading the inspection findings

Every rating rests on five judgements, covering whether a home is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. Twenty four homes here are rated Good and four have been asked to improve, so the detail beneath the badge is where the comparison lies. Pay particular attention to what inspectors recorded about staffing levels, training in dementia care and how the home responds when a resident becomes distressed. Check the date of each report, because a change of manager can alter a home substantially within a year. Where a home has been asked to improve, ask what has changed since the inspection and what evidence the manager can put in front of you.

What to ask and watch for on a visit

Go at a busy time and stay long enough to see how staff handle a difficult moment rather than a calm one. Ask how many staff have had dementia specific training, how the home learns about a resident's history and habits, and what it does when someone is agitated or wants to walk. Ask how families are involved in the care plan, whether visiting is unrestricted and how the home supports someone whose speech has become limited. Watch whether staff speak to residents at eye level and by name, which tells you more than any policy document.

Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Oldham

How many dementia care homes are there in Oldham?

Oldham has 32 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 34 CQC registered care homes in Oldham: 24 Good, 5 Requires improvement, 3 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

Which dementia care homes in Oldham were inspected most recently?

Neville House Residential Home (8 September 2026), Hadfield House (4 September 2026) and Stoneleigh House (13 July 2026) have the most recent CQC reports.

How do we arrange a care needs assessment in Oldham?

Contact the adult social care team at Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council and ask for an assessment of care and support needs. The person concerned can request one, a relative can ask on their behalf with agreement, or a hospital discharge team can refer directly. The assessment is free and no level of savings prevents anyone from having one. Ask for the written outcome, since it sets out clearly what support has been judged necessary.

Can Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council fund a dementia care home placement?

It can, where both the needs test and the financial test are met. The care needs assessment must show that residential care is the right way to meet the person's needs, and a financial assessment of income and capital then sets the contribution. Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council is responsible for both stages and for arranging funded support for those who qualify. Ask as well about continuing healthcare funding, because some dementia related needs are met by the health service instead.

Which dementia care homes in Oldham are listed here?

The page covers thirty one residential care homes in Oldham registered with the Care Quality Commission that support people living with dementia. Among them are Chamber Mount, Avalon Park Care Home, Ashbourne House Care Home and Springfields. Each entry shows the home's current rating and links through to a fuller profile. Ask any home you approach how much of its current dementia experience matches your relative's stage and needs.

What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?

A dementia care home provides personal care, meaning help with washing, dressing, eating, moving about and taking medication, from staff trained in supporting people with memory loss. A nursing home offers the same alongside clinical care from registered nurses on site, which suits people whose health needs run beyond personal care. Every provider on this page is registered as a residential care home rather than a nursing home. If nursing needs are likely to develop, ask each home how far it can go before a move would be needed.

How far in advance should we start looking?

Earlier than most families manage, because dementia needs change in steps rather than smoothly. A home that suits someone in the early stages may not be able to support them later, so it is worth asking about that from the outset. Well regarded homes also keep waiting lists, which a crisis search cannot accommodate. Visiting while your relative can still express a view gives them some say in the decision.

What should we ask when visiting a dementia care home?

Ask how many staff have completed dementia specific training and how often that training is refreshed. Ask what the home does when a resident becomes distressed, wants to walk, or does not recognise where they are. Check how the home learns about a person's history, routines and preferences, and how families contribute to the care plan. Watch how staff speak to residents during your visit, since that is the clearest evidence you will get.
