- Care Home
Here at The Beeches, we are a care home based in Dukinfield, Tameside, providing a warm and supportive environment for the people who live with us. We believe that good care starts with genuinely knowing each person as an individual, understanding their history, their preferences, and what makes them feel at home. We support a wide range of needs here, including residential care for older people, dementia care, support for those living with a physical disability, and care for younger adults. We also offer respite care for those who need a short term stay, whether that is to recover after a period of illness or to give family carers some time to rest. Whatever brings someone through our doors, we aim to make sure they feel settled, respected, and well looked after from the outset. Our team works hard to create an atmosphere that feels more like home than a care setting. We take the time to listen, to get things right, and to build real relationships with residents and their families. Families are always welcome here and we encourage them to stay involved in the lives of their loved ones in whatever way feels right for them. We are pleased that our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission resulted in an overall rating of good, which reflects the effort and commitment that goes into the care we provide each and every day. We never stand still though and we are always looking at how we can improve and do better for the people in our care. If you are considering The Beeches for yourself or someone you care about, we would love to hear from you. Please do not hesitate to get in touch or come and visit us to see what we are all about.

- Care Home
Yew Trees is a residential care home in Dukinfield supporting a broad range of adults. Many of our residents are older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support adults with mental health needs, people with a physical disability, residents living with sight or hearing loss and some younger adults. That range means assessment matters. Before anybody moves in we want to be sure we can meet their needs properly and that the placement will work for them and for the people already living here, and we say so honestly when we think we are not the right place. Support is planned one person at a time. For one resident that may mean help with most of the day, including personal care and help to move safely. For another it may mean very little practical help but a good deal of structure and staff who understand how they communicate. For residents living with dementia we keep the house familiar and the staff consistent. For residents with mental health needs a calm household and staff who notice when something has shifted do most of the good. Where there is sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate. Respite stays are available and give family carers a proper break. Please contact us if you would like to visit and see how the home runs.

- Care Home
We are The Beeches, a residential care home in Dukinfield, Tameside. People come to us when living at home has become difficult, and our aim is to make the move feel less like an upheaval and more like settling somewhere familiar. We support older people, younger adults, people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities, and we take time at the outset to understand what each person wants their life here to look like. Much of that work is practical. We find out how someone likes their mornings to go, what they would rather do for themselves, where they need a steady hand, and we write that down so every member of our team works the same way. Where memory is affected we keep routines and surroundings consistent, because familiarity does more for confidence than any amount of reassurance. For residents whose mobility is restricted, we plan equipment and support so that moving about the building stays possible rather than becoming something to be managed. Our last overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. We are glad of it, though the things residents and families tell us matter just as much, and we would rather hear a concern early than find out about it in a survey. Families are welcome whenever it suits them. We will always tell you honestly whether we are the right home for the person you are asking about, and if we are not, we will say so.

- Care Home
Yew Trees is a residential care home in Dukinfield, Tameside. We support older people and younger adults, residents living with dementia and residents with physical disabilities. Moving into a care home is rarely anybody's first choice, and we think a home does well if it can make that move feel less like a loss. So we begin with the person rather than the paperwork: what their days have looked like until now, which of those habits they want to keep, what they can still manage alone, and where help would be a relief rather than an intrusion. That picture is written down and shared, so a resident does not have to keep explaining themselves to whoever is on shift. For residents with physical disabilities we plan around what the person wants to be able to do and reach, with equipment and support arranged to serve that rather than simply to make handling easier. Where dementia is present we rely on consistency: the same faces, routines we do not change without reason, and a building laid out so that getting about does not depend on remembering it. Our last overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. Families are welcome here whenever they like. If you are looking at homes for someone, come and see us more than once and ask us the questions you would rather not have to ask.

- Care Home
Fir Trees is a residential care home in Dukinfield, Tameside. Our residents include older people and younger adults, people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. Families usually come to us at a difficult moment, when it has become clear that managing at home is no longer realistic. We try to make the practical side of that as straightforward as we can, and to be honest from the outset about what we can offer and what we cannot. Telling someone we are not the right home is a better outcome than a move that has to be undone. For those who do come, the work is detailed and ordinary. We learn how a person likes their day arranged, what they intend to keep doing for themselves, and where they would welcome a hand, then we make sure every shift knows it. Residents with physical disabilities should be able to get where they want to go, so we plan equipment and support around that rather than around convenience. Residents with dementia do best with familiar faces, steady routines and a building that is easy to read. The Care Quality Commission last rated us good overall, and we treat that as a floor rather than a finish. Visit whenever you like. Ask the residents what they think of us, and ask us the questions you are worried about asking.

- Care Home
We are Fir Trees, a residential care home in Dukinfield. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people with a physical disability. What we provide is residential care rather than nursing care, and we say so plainly to families at the outset so that nobody moves somewhere unable to meet their needs. Within it, we help with washing, dressing and moving about safely, support people with medication, provide proper meals and make sure nobody spends the day alone unless that is their preference. The home runs at the pace of its residents. Nobody is woken to suit a rota, mealtimes bend around the person, and how the day is spent is a matter for the individual. Some like the lounge and the conversation that fills it, others would rather keep to their own room. Dementia care here depends on knowing the person. We learn about the work somebody did, the family they raised and the routines that settle them, and we work with all of that rather than correcting anybody about the present. Our staff know residents well enough to notice when somebody is quieter or eating less than usual, and we ring families early rather than waiting. Visitors are welcome whenever they want to come. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent CQC overall rating is good. Please get in touch to look round.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Dukinfield
The assessments behind a placement
A move into dementia care rests on the same two assessments as any other placement, although the questions asked along the way go further. The assessment of need is free, open to anyone who may need care, and records how someone manages washing, dressing, medication, eating, orientation and risk at home. Ask Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council Adult Social Care to carry out that assessment and to arrange the financial assessment that follows, which decides whether funded support can be put towards the fee. If memory loss is advancing, ask for any diagnosis, medication list and recent hospital letters to be included, since homes rely on that detail.
Fees and what shapes them
Fees are quoted weekly and cover the room, meals, laundry and personal care, with extras such as hairdressing, chiropody and outings charged separately. Some homes charge more for a place in a unit designed around dementia, so ask what the difference buys in staffing and training terms. Where capital falls below the national threshold, the council may contribute after its financial assessment, and above it the place is funded privately. Ask what happens if needs grow and nursing becomes necessary, because not every home can keep someone through that change.
Choosing between dementia care homes in Dukinfield
Reading three Good reports properly
The Beeches, Fir Trees and Yew Trees all hold a Good rating, so the choice turns on what sits inside the reports rather than the headline word. Look for what inspectors say about staffing levels, how people with dementia are supported when distressed, and whether activities suit those who cannot follow a group. Check the date of each inspection, since a judgement can be a few years old and managers change. Where a report notes something an inspector asked the provider to strengthen, raise it directly with the manager and listen to the answer.
What to watch for on the visit
Ask what dementia training the staff have completed, how many carers are on duty overnight and how long the team has worked together, because familiar faces matter a great deal. Watch how someone repeating a question is answered, and whether residents are helped to move about rather than seated for long stretches. Ask how the home handles walking with purpose, disturbed nights and refusal of food, and whether the garden is accessible without supervision. Visit once by arrangement and once unannounced, ideally near a mealtime, when you will learn the most.
Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Dukinfield
How many dementia care homes are there in Dukinfield?
Dukinfield has 6 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 7 CQC registered care homes in Dukinfield: 6 Good. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
Which dementia care homes in Dukinfield were inspected most recently?
Fir Trees (22 November 2023), Fir Trees (22 November 2023) and The Beeches (7 November 2023) have the most recent CQC reports.
Can Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council fund a dementia care home placement?
It can contribute where the needs assessment shows residential care is required and the financial assessment shows capital below the national threshold. The council pays up to the rate it will meet and the resident contributes from income such as pensions. Above the threshold, the placement is funded privately until savings fall to that level. Where a property is involved, ask the council about a deferred payment arrangement.
How do we arrange a care needs assessment in Dukinfield?
Contact Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council and ask for an adult social care needs assessment for the person living with dementia. An assessor will go through daily routines, memory, medication, mobility and safety at home, on a visit or by telephone. The assessment is free and does not depend on income or savings. The written outcome is what homes will want to read before offering a place.
How far ahead should we start looking?
Dementia tends to progress unevenly, so it helps to look before a move becomes urgent. Where it can be planned, two or three months allows time for the assessment, several visits and a funding decision. Rooms in units designed around dementia are limited and may not be free in the week you need one. If the move follows a hospital stay, speak to the ward and the discharge team early.
Which providers in Dukinfield offer dementia care?
Three registered care homes match this search: The Beeches, Fir Trees and Yew Trees. All three are registered as residential care homes rather than nursing homes. Each holds a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission at present. The profiles set out the provider details and the current rating for each one.
What should we ask when visiting a dementia care home in Dukinfield?
Ask what dementia training staff have completed and how often it is refreshed, and how many carers are on duty overnight. Ask how the home supports someone who becomes distressed or restless, and how it manages disturbed nights and refusal of food. Ask to see a care plan and the recent activity programme, and ask how life history is used to make activities personal. Finish by asking what happens if nursing care becomes necessary.
What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?
Both support people living with dementia, but the registration differs. A care home provides help with daily living from trained care staff, while a nursing home also has a qualified nurse on the premises at all times for wounds, feeding tubes, injections and unstable conditions. The homes listed on this page are registered for residential care. If nursing needs are likely to develop, raise that during the assessment so the right registration is considered.
