- Care Home
Downing House is a residential care home in Manchester. We provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, and for younger adults who need a supportive household rather than a large institution. Respite stays are available as well, planned or at short notice. The first fortnight after a move matters enormously, and we put a good deal of thought into it. We want to know before somebody arrives how they take their tea, what time they wake, what they cannot abide and who they want to be able to ring. Those details are what make a strange room start to feel like their room. We help with personal care, dressing, medication and mobility, and we do only as much as somebody needs. Where a resident can still manage something, they keep it, and we are not in a hurry to take things over. Dementia care is a large part of our work, and we treat it as caring for a person rather than managing a condition. We keep the day's rhythm steady and the surroundings familiar, give people time instead of finishing their sentences for them, and ask families about earlier life, because that knowledge is what makes sense of a mood or a repeated question. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and see us on an ordinary afternoon. A home is much easier to judge when nothing has been arranged for your benefit.

- Care Home
Wellfield House is a residential care home in Manchester providing care for older people, including those living with dementia, and short respite stays. City life does not stop when someone moves into care, and we try to keep our residents connected to it. Families, neighbours and friends visit throughout the day, local volunteers and groups come in, and residents who want to get out and about are supported to do so. Inside, we aim for the feel of a large family house. Residents furnish their rooms as they wish, keep their own belongings around them and set their own pace. We ask how someone has always done things, from the time they get up to how they take their tea, and we work with that rather than with a timetable. Dementia care is a large part of what we do. We keep staffing consistent, we avoid unnecessary change, and we take the trouble to find out what reassures a particular person, because it is rarely the same for two people. We also make time for families, who often need support as much as the resident does. Respite stays give carers a proper rest and give the person staying with us a chance to get to know us gently. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would rather you visited unannounced and saw us as we really are, so please just come.

- Care Home
Polonia is a residential care home in Manchester. We support older people who need help with daily living, including people living with dementia, and we take respite bookings for families needing a short break or a period of extra support after illness. We try to run the place the way a household runs rather than the way an institution does. People get up when they wake, eat what they actually like, keep their own furniture and photographs about them and carry on with the habits that make them feel themselves. Relatives are welcome without appointment, and we would far rather people dropped in than waited for a visiting slot. Language, food and faith matter a great deal to how at home somebody feels, particularly later in life when the earliest habits are often the ones that stay. We pay close attention to that and we would always rather be told what matters to a family than guess at it. Supporting somebody living with dementia asks for patience and a good memory for detail, so our staff learn the small things that settle a person and the hours of the day that are harder. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are looking at residential or respite care in Manchester, please arrange to visit.

At Ashley House Residential Home, we provide a warm and homely environment where older adults in Manchester can feel genuinely comfortable, safe and well looked after. We have been rated Good by the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the commitment our team brings to the care we provide every single day. We specialise in Older Person Care, Residential Care, Dementia Care and Respite Care. Whether someone is joining us for a short stay to recover or recharge, or making Ashley House their long term home, we work hard to make sure the experience feels personal and respectful rather than clinical or institutional. Dementia care is something we take particularly seriously. We understand how much this condition affects not just the individual but the whole family around them, and we work thoughtfully to create routines, environments and relationships that bring comfort and familiarity to those living with dementia. Our respite care offer is equally important to us. Caring for a loved one at home is a big undertaking, and we want family carers to feel they can take a break knowing the person they care for is in safe, kind hands. Many families find that a short stay with us gives them peace of mind they did not expect. Life at Ashley House is shaped around the people who live here. We encourage residents to keep doing the things they enjoy, maintain connections with family and friends, and have a genuine say in how their days are structured. We believe good care means treating people as individuals, not as a group with the same needs. If you would like to find out whether Ashley House could be the right fit for your family, we would always encourage you to come and visit us and see the home for yourself. We are based in Manchester and very happy to have a conversation.

- Care Home
We are a residential care home in Manchester supporting adults with a wide range of needs. The people who live here include older people, younger adults, people living with dementia, people with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with loss of sight or hearing. Supporting that range means paying attention to individuals rather than to categories. Some of the people here need a good deal of help with personal care, medication and moving about. Others need much less of that and a great deal more support with everything else: keeping to arrangements, managing anxiety, getting out of the house and having staff who know when to step in and when to leave well alone. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Meals are cooked here and we listen when somebody would rather have something different. Where somebody is living with dementia we spend time learning their history and habits, because knowing the person is what settles them when they are frightened. Family and friends are welcome whenever they wish to come. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and look round and ask us whatever you need to.

Lighthouse is a residential care home in Manchester. We support older people and younger adults with a range of needs, including people living with dementia or a mental health condition, people with a physical disability, and people dealing with alcohol or drug misuse. We also take respite bookings. Because people arrive here by very different routes, we do not run the house to one pattern. Some need a good deal of practical support through the day. Others mainly want a settled base, a routine that holds and somebody reliable to check in with. We work out which by asking, and we go on asking, because what somebody needs when they arrive is rarely what they need a year later. People keep their own belongings around them, decide how the day goes and are not hurried. Families and friends are welcome through the day rather than by appointment. We are used to supporting people whose needs do not fit neatly into one category, and we try to take each person as they come rather than as a label. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are looking for a place or a respite stay in Manchester, please get in touch and arrange to come and look round.

- Care Home
The Dell is a residential care home in Manchester caring for older people, including many living with dementia. Families usually reach us tired. The decision to move a relative into a care home is rarely taken lightly and often follows a long stretch of managing at home with too little help. One of the most useful things we can do early is take some of that weight off, be honest about what we can and cannot offer, and make it possible for a daughter or a husband to go back to being family rather than a carer who never gets an evening off. For the person moving in, the first weeks are what count. We want to know how they have always run their day, what they are proud of, who they want to hear from, what unsettles them and what makes an afternoon good. We write it down, we use it, and we keep correcting it as we learn. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Anyone considering a move is welcome to visit and take their time.

- Care Home
Mary & Joseph House is a residential care home in Manchester, and we support a wider range of adults than most homes of our size. That is deliberate. People do not arrive with a single label, and we would rather build support around an individual than turn somebody away because their needs sit across two categories. We provide residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we support people living with mental ill health, people with physical disabilities and younger adults. We also support people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug use, working without judgement and without pretending the risks are not there. Respite stays are available as well. Supporting that mix well means being clear about what each person needs from us, so every plan is written with the individual, reviewed regularly, and shared with the professionals involved in their care. Where risk is part of the picture we talk about it openly and look for ways to support somebody safely rather than simply saying no. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are pleased with that and clear it has to be earned again every week. Anyone thinking about a placement is welcome to visit, meet the staff on duty and ask us difficult questions.

We at Parkview Care Home are proud to offer a welcoming residential care setting in the heart of Manchester, where compassionate support meets the comforts of a true home. Our community is dedicated to providing person centred residential care for older adults and younger people alike, in surroundings designed to feel familiar, safe, and uplifting. Located within the M postcode area of Manchester, our home benefits from being part of a vibrant city whilst offering residents a calm and comfortable retreat. Families visiting loved ones will find us within easy reach across the North West, making regular visits and shared moments straightforward and stress free. The local area provides a familiar backdrop for many of our residents, helping them feel rooted in the community they know and love. Our specialisms reflect the breadth of care we provide. Alongside residential care for older people, we offer dedicated dementia care, drawing on understanding and patience to support residents whose memory and cognition may be changing. We also welcome younger adults and provide thoughtful support for those living with mental health needs, physical disabilities, or visual and hearing impairments. In practice, this means our team takes time to truly know each resident: their history, their preferences, their routines, and the small details that make a day feel like their own. Whether it is adapting communication for someone with hearing loss, creating a calm environment for a resident living with dementia, or supporting independence for a younger adult with a physical disability, our approach is always shaped around the individual rather than the diagnosis. Families often tell us that what matters most is knowing their loved one is treated with dignity and warmth every single day. That is the heart of what we do. From the way we share mealtimes to the encouragement we offer during everyday activities, our aim is to create a sense of belonging. Loved ones are welcomed as part of the wider Parkview family, and we work in close partnership with relatives to ensure care plans evolve as needs change. We are pleased to share that Parkview Care Home holds an overall rating of Good from the Care Quality Commission, following inspection in November 2020. This Good rating extends across all five key areas assessed: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. For families, this independent assurance offers peace of mind that the standards of safety, leadership, and compassionate care experienced by residents have been recognised by the regulator. We see this rating not as a finishing line but as a foundation we continue to build upon every day. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that choice. If you are exploring residential or dementia care options in Manchester, we warmly invite you to get in touch. Whether you would like to ask questions, arrange a visit, or simply talk through what your loved one might need, our door is open and our team is here to listen. At Parkview Care Home, we are ready to walk alongside you with kindness, expertise, and genuine care.

Hall Lane Resource Centre in Manchester provides short breaks and respite care, which means most of the people we support come to us for a planned period rather than to live permanently. That shapes everything about how we work, because somebody arriving for a short stay has to feel welcome and settled quickly rather than treated as a temporary case. We support older people, including those living with dementia, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss, including younger adults. We take time before a stay to learn how somebody communicates, what their routine looks like at home and what helps them settle, so that we can keep as much of it as possible while they are here. Families who need a break should be able to take one without spending it worrying. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was requires improvement. We would rather say that plainly. We have worked through the findings and our attention has gone to the things that shape a person's stay here rather than to records alone. Please come and visit and ask us directly what has changed.

Here at Brownlow House, we provide residential care for people in the heart of Manchester, supporting a wide range of needs under one roof. We are proud to have received a "Good" rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the genuine effort our team puts in every single day to make sure the people in our care feel safe, respected and at home. We support older adults, people living with dementia, those experiencing mental health difficulties, and individuals with physical disabilities or visual and hearing impairments. We also welcome younger adults who need a caring and supportive environment, as well as people coming to us for short term respite stays. Whatever brings someone through our doors, we take the time to understand who they are, what matters to them, and how we can best support their day to day life. Dementia care is an area we take particularly seriously. We know how important consistency, familiarity and calm surroundings are for people living with dementia, and we work hard to create an environment that feels reassuring rather than clinical. The same applies across all the conditions and circumstances we support. We do not take a one size fits all approach, because no two people are the same. Families and loved ones are always welcome here. We believe good care extends beyond the individual and involves building honest, open relationships with the people who matter most to our residents. We are always happy to have a conversation, answer questions, or simply show you around so you can see for yourself what life at Brownlow House looks like. If you are looking for care in Manchester for yourself or someone close to you, we would love to hear from you. Please do get in touch and we will do our best to help.

Auden House Residential Home is in Tameside. We care for older people who need support with daily living, including those living with dementia, those with a physical disability and those whose sight or hearing is impaired. Our care is the practical, daily kind: help to wash and dress, medication given properly, meals cooked here, support to move about safely and staff available through the night. Around that, residents arrange their own time as they wish, and we try not to organise people's lives on their behalf. For residents living with dementia we keep the rhythm of the day predictable and the staff around them consistent. Where sight or hearing is impaired we keep belongings exactly where they are expected, approach people so as not to startle them and check that we have been understood. Where people need help to move, we take the time that doing it safely and comfortably requires. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Families across Tameside and Manchester are welcome to visit.

Here at Wellington Lodge, we are proud to serve the Manchester community as a care home that genuinely puts the people who live with us at the heart of everything we do. We support a range of needs, including residential care for older people, dementia care, respite care, and care for younger adults. Whether someone is joining us for a short stay to recover or rest, or making Wellington Lodge their long term home, we work hard to make sure they feel comfortable, respected, and truly at home from the moment they arrive. Dementia care is something we take seriously. We understand how much of an impact this condition has not just on the person living with it, but on their family too. We focus on creating a calm, familiar environment where residents feel safe and where their individual routines and preferences are honoured. For families, we hope to be a reassuring presence and a team they can talk to openly. Our approach to respite care is equally thoughtful. We know that for many families, arranging a short break can come with a great deal of worry and guilt. We want anyone staying with us on a respite basis to receive the same quality of care and the same warmth as our long term residents, so that families can rest knowing their loved one is in good hands. We are pleased to hold a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the commitment of our whole team to maintaining high standards day to day. We never see that as a reason to be complacent though. We are always listening to residents and their families, looking for ways to improve and to make life at Wellington Lodge as good as it can possibly be. If you would like to find out more, please do get in touch. We would love to hear from you.

Sunnyside is a residential care home in Tameside. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support some younger adults. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. We aim for an ordinary, comfortable household. Residents get up when they wake, eat what they actually enjoy and spend their days as they choose. Some are sociable and are downstairs from breakfast onwards. Others would rather have their own room and quiet. Both are perfectly reasonable. People usually arrive having struggled at home for a while, and the first few weeks are about settling rather than fitting in. We learn routines rather than imposing them, and we encourage people to bring their own furniture and pictures so a room becomes theirs quickly. Dementia care here rests on familiar staff, a steady rhythm and knowing something of a person's earlier life. Where somebody is distressed, we look for the cause. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather be upfront about that than leave you to find it elsewhere. We know which areas were raised, there is work under way, and we are happy to go through any of it. Please come and visit, ask us directly what has changed, and judge the home on what you see.

Appleton Lodge is a residential care home in the Stockport area of Manchester, providing a home for older people and for younger adults who need help with everyday life. We support people living with dementia and people living with physical disabilities. We try to keep the place feeling like a house rather than a unit. People get up when they wake, eat what they like, and spend the day as they want to spend it. The help we give covers washing and dressing, medication, meals, mobility and the many small practical things that become difficult to manage alone, offered in a way that leaves somebody their privacy. For those living with dementia we hold to steady routines and familiar staff. That consistency does more good than any technique, and our team tends to stay with us, which means people here are looked after by faces they recognise. Families are welcome whenever they want to come, and we would much rather hear a concern early than have it sit unspoken until it has grown. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places, which families often use to cover a holiday or a period of recovery at home. Ann Challis is a residential care home in Trafford, Manchester, supporting older adults and some younger adults. We offer permanent places and respite stays, and many of our residents live with dementia. A care home ought to feel like somewhere people live rather than somewhere they have been placed, and the difference shows up in ordinary things. Getting up at an hour that suits you. Your own furniture and pictures around you. Being asked what you would like rather than told what is happening. Carrying on with familiar habits for as long as health allows. Our dementia care rests on familiarity and patience above all. The same staff, a routine that holds its shape, surroundings that make sense, and time given rather than grudged when somebody needs longer to find their words. Where a resident is distressed we look for the cause, because there almost always is one, whether pain, confusion, boredom or fear. Respite guests become part of the household from the day they arrive. For many people a short stay is their first experience of a care home, and it should leave them reassured rather than relieved it is over. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. Families are welcome to visit without arranging it beforehand, and anyone considering a place should come and see the home for themselves.

The Vicarage Residential Care Home is in Tameside. We care for older people who need support with everyday life, including residents living with dementia. What we provide is help with the ordinary business of the day: assistance to wash and dress, medication managed properly and on time, meals cooked on the premises, support to get about safely and staff available through the night. For residents living with dementia we keep the rhythm of the day predictable and the staff around them consistent, and we lean on what families can tell us about a person's history. We should be straightforward with you about our position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have been working through the points raised, particularly around record keeping, staff supervision and the consistency of care planning, and we would encourage anyone considering the home to ask us about that directly rather than take our word for it. Relatives are involved in that work, since they are best placed to judge whether things have actually improved. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Families across Tameside and Manchester are welcome to visit. Please ring and we will arrange a time.

St Lawrences Lodge is a care home in the Tameside area of Manchester. We provide residential care for older people, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available. Because the people living here have genuinely different needs, we plan care one person at a time. What settles somebody with dementia is not what helps somebody living with a long standing mental health condition, and one routine stretched across everybody suits nobody in particular. So we spend our attention on the details: how a person likes to be addressed, what they can still do and would rather do themselves, what tends to make a bad day and what heads it off early. Where sight or hearing loss is involved, habits matter more than equipment. Saying who you are as you come into the room. Leaving furniture exactly where it lives. Checking that hearing aids and glasses are clean and working rather than assuming. People here decide when they get up, what they eat and how they spend the day. Visitors are welcome whenever suits them, and we would far rather a concern reached us early and bluntly than be stored up for months. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.

Here at Lightbowne Hall, we provide residential care for older people, younger adults and those living with dementia, right in the heart of Manchester. We also offer respite care for those who need a short term stay, whether that is to recover after a period of illness or to give family carers a well earned break. We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we do not take that lightly. From the moment someone first contacts us, we try to make the process as straightforward and as human as possible. We take time to understand each person properly before they move in, because good care starts long before someone walks through our door. Our team works hard to make Lightbowne Hall feel like a genuine home rather than an institution. We pay close attention to the small things, the routines people value, the foods they enjoy, the way they like to spend their time, because those details matter enormously to the people in our care and to their families. We are proud to hold a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the consistent effort our staff put in every single day. It is something we are pleased about, though we are always looking at how we can do better and listening to feedback from residents and their loved ones. Our location in Manchester means families are rarely far away, and we warmly encourage visits and involvement in the life of the home. Whether someone is joining us for a short respite stay or moving in on a permanent basis, we aim to make them feel settled, respected and at ease from the very start. If you would like to find out more or come and have a look around, please do get in touch.

We are Haylands Residential Home for Gentlemen in Trafford. We look after older men, including those living with dementia, and we take respite bookings for shorter stays. Being a home for men gives the place its own character, and a good deal of what people tell us they like about it is simply that it feels familiar and unfussy. People arrive with their own furniture, pictures and habits, and those come first. What time you wake, where you take your breakfast, whether you feel sociable today or would rather sit quietly with the paper: those remain your decisions. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement, and we are not going to write around it. We have looked closely at what the inspection found, changed how care is planned, recorded and reviewed, and strengthened the training and supervision of our staff. Our progress is being monitored, and we tell relatives the same things we tell the regulator. For people living with dementia, the useful work is in the detail: knowing a person's history and the job they did, recognising early what unsettles them, and going at their pace rather than the rota's. If you are considering us, please visit and ask about the rating directly.

Ecclesholme is a residential care home in Salford. We look after older people who need daily care, including many people living with dementia, and we also support younger adults who need residential care. The house runs at a human pace. People get up when they wake, eat what they recognise and enjoy, and spend the day in whatever way suits them. For someone living with dementia, that steadiness is a large part of the care, along with familiar faces, meals at the times people expect them, and enough time in the day that nobody is hurried through anything. We would rather shape our routine around a person than ask a person to fall in with ours. Relatives are welcome whenever they want to come. Respite stays are part of what we offer as well, giving a family carer a proper rest or supporting somebody through a period of recovery after a hospital stay. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. We keep our own standards under review in between, because a rating describes one moment and the people living here need consistency from us. If you are looking for a home for yourself or someone close to you, please come and see us on an ordinary day and ask us whatever you want to know.

The Paul Murphy Centre is a residential care home in Manchester providing a home for a varied group of people: older adults, younger adults, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with loss of sight or hearing. Having that range under one roof works because we build support around the individual rather than around a label. One person may need help with every part of the day and another may need very little, and both live here on the same footing. We ask each person what a good day looks like for them, we write it down in a way that makes sense to them, and we change it when they tell us to. Communication is central to the way we work. We use speech, signing, symbols, objects and plain familiarity, whatever suits the person, because that is what turns being told about a decision into actually making one. People here are supported to go out to work, college, clubs, appointments and family, and to be as involved in running the house as they want to be. Short respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and we would be glad to show you round.

We are Urmston Manor, a residential care home in Trafford. We look after older people, including those living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we also support younger adults. Respite stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are proud of that and also clear about what it means. It is not a promise that nothing will ever go wrong here. It reflects the fact that we know the people who live here well, that our staff are properly supported, and that when something needs putting right we deal with it rather than explaining it away. In daily life that shows in small things. People get up and go to bed when they choose. Meals are what somebody actually wants to eat. Their own furniture and pictures come with them and their habits come first. For people living with dementia, we work with the person as they are now, knowing their history, spotting early what unsettles them and going at their pace. Here at Israel Sieff Court, we are a care home based in Manchester, and we are proud to offer a warm, supportive environment where older people can feel genuinely at home. We specialise in Older Person Care, Residential Care, Dementia Care and Respite Care, which means we are well placed to support individuals at different stages and with varying needs. Whether someone is joining us for a short respite stay or moving in on a permanent basis, we take time to understand who they are, what matters to them and how we can best support their everyday life. Our team in Manchester works hard to make sure each person in our care feels known and respected as an individual. We do not believe in a one size fits all approach. Routines, preferences and personal histories all shape the way we provide support, and we encourage residents and their families to be involved in decisions about their care from the very beginning. For those living with dementia, we understand how important familiarity, consistency and calm surroundings can be. Our team is experienced in providing thoughtful, person centred support that helps people feel safe and engaged throughout their day. We are pleased that our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as Good. That outcome reflects the genuine effort our team puts in every day, and it gives families reassurance when they are making what can be a very difficult decision. If you are considering care for yourself or a loved one, we would warmly encourage you to get in touch or come and visit us. We are happy to answer questions, show you around and talk through how we might be able to help. We look forward to hearing from you.

We at Ascot House are proud to offer residential care in the heart of Manchester, providing a warm and welcoming home for older people, adults living with dementia, and younger adults within the Trafford community. Our home has been thoughtfully designed to feel less like an institution and more like the place our residents can truly call their own. Set within the vibrant surroundings of Manchester, our home benefits from being close to local amenities whilst offering the calm, comfortable atmosphere that residents and their loved ones need. The environment has been created with accessibility and comfort at its heart, allowing residents to move freely, socialise in shared communal spaces, or enjoy quieter moments of reflection in their own rooms. Families visiting will find a homely setting where personal touches are encouraged and everyday life feels reassuringly familiar. Our care specialisms cover older person care, general residential support, dementia care, care for younger adults, and respite stays. In practice, this means we take the time to understand each individual who joins us, whether they are settling in for the long term or staying with us for a shorter period of respite. For residents living with dementia, our team focuses on maintaining routine, dignity, and meaningful engagement, drawing on approaches that reduce anxiety and promote wellbeing. For younger adults, we recognise that care needs and lifestyle preferences differ, and we work closely with each person to support their independence and personal goals. Families choosing respite care can feel reassured that their loved one will be welcomed with the same warmth and attention offered to every resident. We understand that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and trust is central to that journey. Ascot House holds an overall Good rating from the Care Quality Commission, with Good ratings achieved across all five key domains: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. This consistency reflects the dedication of our team and the standards we uphold every day, from the way care is delivered to the way our home is managed. If you are considering care for yourself or a loved one, we warmly invite you to get in touch with Ascot House. Whether you have questions about daily life here, wish to discuss individual care needs, or would like to arrange a visit, our door is always open. Trafford Waters Care Home is a residential care home in Manchester providing a home for older people and for younger adults who need help with the business of daily life. We support people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, and people who have lost some of their sight or hearing. The place runs at the pace of the people living in it. Breakfast happens when somebody wakes, not when a trolley arrives, and the day takes the shape a person wants. The help covers washing and dressing, medication, meals, mobility and the many small practical things that become difficult alone, offered in a way that leaves somebody their privacy. For those living with dementia we hold to steady routines and familiar staff, and we take trouble over the building so that it is easy to understand and move around. For people with sensory loss we adapt how we communicate, how rooms are lit and how we approach and announce ourselves, because those adjustments decide whether a person is included or left on the edge of things. Families are welcome whenever they want to come. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Please ring us if you would like to see the home for yourself.

We at Firs Hall Care Home offer a warm and welcoming residential care home in Manchester, where older people and those living with dementia can feel truly at home. Nestled within the Oldham area of the North West, our home has been thoughtfully designed to combine comfort, safety, and a genuine sense of community for every resident who walks through our doors. Our setting reflects the character of the surrounding neighbourhood, offering a peaceful environment where residents can enjoy familiar comforts whilst remaining connected to the wider Manchester community. Family members and friends will find us easily accessible, and we take great pride in creating spaces that feel less like an institution and more like a genuine home, with communal areas designed for conversation, quiet reflection, and shared moments. At the heart of what we do is a deep commitment to person centred care. Our specialisms in Older Person Care and Residential Care mean that daily life here is shaped around the individual, respecting each resident's routines, preferences, and life story. For those living with dementia, our approach is grounded in patience, understanding, and specialist knowledge, helping residents feel calm, valued, and safe as they navigate the challenges of memory loss. We know how much reassurance this brings to loved ones, who can trust that their family member is being cared for by a team who truly understands their needs. We also provide Respite Care, offering short term stays for those who need a period of recovery, or simply to give family carers a well deserved break. Whether it is a few days or a few weeks, respite guests receive the same warmth and attentive care as our permanent residents, and many families find it a reassuring way to experience life at Firs Hall before considering longer term arrangements. The Care Quality Commission awarded us a Good rating across every domain at our most recent inspection in May 2022, recognising that we are Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. This consistency across all five areas reflects the everyday standards we hold ourselves to, from the way we support residents' wellbeing to the way we listen to families and continually improve. For anyone weighing up options, this independent assessment offers meaningful assurance that the care provided here meets the expectations you would rightly hope for. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the mixture of emotions that comes with it. If you are exploring options for a loved one in Manchester or the wider Oldham area, we would be delighted to welcome you for a visit, answer your questions, and show you what life at Firs Hall Care Home is truly like. Amadeus is a residential care home in Salford, Manchester, supporting older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. A house shared by adults with such different needs only works if difference is expected rather than merely put up with. Our residents do not want the same day as each other, and our job is to make room for that without letting the loudest need crowd out the quietest person. Practically, we help with the things that have become difficult. Washing and dressing, medication, meals, mobility, and the steady attention that keeps somebody safe and comfortable. We aim to do all of it in a way that leaves a person's dignity where it belongs, which mostly means asking first, explaining, and not doing for somebody what they can still do themselves. Communication is adapted to suit each individual. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and anyone considering a place is welcome to visit and ask us anything.

Wentworth House is a residential care home in Salford, Greater Manchester. We provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, including people living with dementia, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. We are not a nursing home. What we offer is residential care: help with washing and dressing, medication given on time, meals cooked here, laundry done, and staff on duty through the night as well as the day. Doctors and district nurses come in when clinical care is needed. For a great many older people that turns out to be exactly the right amount of support, because it takes away the effort and the worry without taking away the independence. Dementia care rests on consistency and on knowing the person. A familiar order to the day, the same faces and surroundings that are easy to read will settle somebody more surely than anything else. We take time to learn about a person's working life, family and habits, because that is what explains them to us when words begin to fail. Sight and hearing loss are taken seriously rather than worked around. Respite and short stays are available. Please ring us if you would like to look round Wentworth House.

Allendale Residential Home is a care home in Manchester supporting older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia. We are a residential home rather than a nursing home, and that shapes the feel of the place. The emphasis is on daily life: meals, company, routines, visitors, getting outside, having something to look forward to. Practical help with washing, dressing, medication and mobility runs alongside all of that rather than replacing it. Settling in is where we put a lot of our attention. Moving into a care home is a significant loss for most people, however necessary it is, and the first few weeks set the tone for everything afterwards. We take time over life histories, we let people bring their own furniture and pictures, and we do not rush anybody into joining in with things. For people living with dementia we plan around familiarity. Consistent staff, consistent routines, and an approach that goes with the person rather than arguing with them. Where somebody is unsettled, we look first at what might be causing it, including pain, noise, boredom or simply needing the loo, before we look at anything else. Families are welcome whenever they want to come, and we would rather hear a complaint early than a polite silence. Respite stays are available for planned breaks. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, and we support people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Supporting that range of people under one roof works only if nobody is treated as a category. What a younger autistic adult wants from a week bears almost no relation to what an older person living with dementia needs from it. So we sit down with each person, work out what their week should actually contain, and arrange staffing around that rather than the reverse. Residents decide how their own day runs, keep their own things around them and see visitors when it suits them. Where sight or hearing has failed, we say who has come into the room and describe what is happening rather than assuming it is obvious. Our team supports older people with dignity and warmth, providing traditional residential care alongside dedicated dementia care for those living with memory loss. We also welcome residents requiring mental health support, offering a patient and understanding approach that helps each person feel valued and safe. For those living with a physical disability or with visual or hearing impairment, we adapt our care to promote independence, comfort, and confidence in daily life. Small adjustments, gentle encouragement, and consistent routines all combine to help residents feel capable and respected. We also offer respite care, providing short term stays that give family carers a well deserved break whilst ensuring their loved one receives the same quality of attention as our permanent residents. What this means in practice is a home where care is never one size fits all. Whether it is helping a resident enjoy a favourite hobby, supporting them at mealtimes, or simply sitting alongside them for a chat, our approach is built around who each person is, not just what they need. Families are always welcomed as partners in care, and we keep open, honest communication at the heart of everything we do. Our commitment to quality is reflected in our CQC Overall Rating of Good, awarded following inspection in February 2020. We were rated Good across every domain, including Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. For families, this offers reassurance that Brierfields meets the standards expected of a trusted care provider and that our team continues to work with pride, professionalism, and genuine kindness. If you are considering care for someone dear to you, we warmly invite you to get in touch with Brierfields. Choosing a home is a deeply personal journey, and we would be honoured to walk that path with you, offering the comfort, companionship, and quality care your loved one deserves.

Bowfell House is a care home in Trafford. We provide residential care for older people, and we support people living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are proud of it and slightly wary of it, because a standard like that is far easier to reach than it is to hold, and the quickest way to lose it is to start believing your own description. What gets us there is not complicated. A settled staff team who know the residents properly. A day that belongs to the people living in it rather than to a timetable. Families who feel able to tell us when something is wrong, and a manager who is on the floor rather than behind a door. Residents choose when to get up, what they eat and how much company they want, and their rooms are genuinely their own. For those living with dementia, we work from the person's own history. What they did, who their family are and what their afternoons used to look like usually explains more than any assessment. Please come and visit if you are considering care locally. Come unannounced if you would rather.

Byron Lodge in Manchester is a residential care home caring for older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss. Running a home with that range of needs works only if everybody is treated as an individual, which is where we start. Each person's support is planned with them and, where they want it, with their family, and it covers the practical help with washing, dressing, moving safely, medication and meals as well as the things that make a day worth having. Our staff are trained for the needs they support and they stay long enough to know people properly. Knowing somebody is what lets you notice that they are in pain when they cannot say so, or low rather than simply tired. For people living with dementia we keep routines predictable and surroundings familiar. The home is somewhere people live. Rooms are personalised, meals are cooked here, visitors are welcome and there is company for those who want it and quiet for those who do not. Respite and short stays can be arranged. If you are looking at care homes in Manchester, please ring us and arrange to come and see.

Harmony House is a residential care home in Salford, Manchester, supporting older people who need help with daily living, along with younger adults, residents living with dementia or a mental health condition, and people with a physical disability. We also offer respite stays for those who need care for a shorter period. We aim to give people an ordinary life with the support they need behind it. Residents decide when to get up, how to spend their time, what they eat and how much company they want. Our staff take time to learn what settles a particular person and what unsettles them, which matters a great deal for anyone living with dementia or managing a mental health condition. We should be open with you about our last inspection. The Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement overall. We have not tried to explain that away. We accepted the findings, we have a clear improvement plan and we are working through it, with closer oversight of the areas the inspectors raised. We would rather tell you this directly and show you the work than have you learn it from somewhere else. We stay in close contact with GPs, community mental health teams and district nurses, and we keep families properly informed about how their relative is getting on. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time. If you are considering the home, please come, look around and ask us the difficult questions.

We at De Brook Lodge are proud to offer a warm, welcoming residential care home in the heart of Manchester, providing compassionate support to older people, younger adults, and those living with dementia across the Trafford community. Nestled within a friendly neighbourhood in the M postcode area, our home has been thoughtfully designed to feel just that, a home. Comfortable communal lounges, inviting dining spaces, and quiet corners for reflection all contribute to an atmosphere where residents can truly relax and be themselves. The familiar surroundings of Manchester mean that loved ones remain close, and the wider Trafford area provides a settled, community focused backdrop to daily life at De Brook Lodge. Our specialisms reflect the breadth of care we are proud to deliver. For older people, we offer supportive residential care that respects independence whilst ensuring help is always close at hand. Our dementia care is grounded in patience, understanding, and genuine person centred approaches, helping residents feel safe, valued, and understood even as their needs evolve. We also welcome younger adults whose circumstances call for residential support, tailoring our approach to reflect their individual goals, interests, and personalities. For families needing a short term arrangement, our respite care offers peace of mind, whether following a hospital stay, during a carer's holiday, or simply to provide a change of scenery in a caring environment. In practice, this means every resident receives care shaped around who they are, not just what they need. Our team takes the time to learn life stories, preferences, and routines, ensuring that meals, activities, and daily rhythms feel familiar and enjoyable. Families are welcomed as partners in care, kept informed, listened to, and reassured that their loved one is in kind, capable hands. De Brook Lodge holds an overall rating of Good from the Care Quality Commission, following its most recent inspection in October 2021. We are rated Good across every domain assessed, Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. For families, this consistent rating offers meaningful reassurance that the quality of care, leadership, and daily experience at our home meets the standards set by the national regulator. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the emotions that come with it. If you are exploring options in Manchester or the wider Trafford area, we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask questions, or arrange a visit to see our home for yourself. At De Brook Lodge, we would be honoured to welcome you and your loved one into our community.

We are a residential care home in Salford, providing a home for older people, including many who are living with dementia. What we aim for is a house that runs at a human pace, where nobody is hurried through breakfast and nobody is left sitting somewhere they would rather not be. Support here is with the everyday things. Washing and dressing, medication, meals, keeping in touch with family, getting outside when the weather is fair. Our staff are here through the day and the night, and we work with GPs and district nurses so that health matters are picked up quickly. Dementia care is a large part of what we do. We find that steady routines, familiar faces and a calm atmosphere do more good than anything else, and that a person who is anxious usually needs company and time rather than correction. We take an interest in who somebody was before they came to us, because that is where the clues about what will comfort them are found. Relatives are welcome whenever they want to visit, and we would far sooner they asked us questions than went away worrying. We offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated the home Good. If you would like to come and see us, please ring and arrange a time that suits you.

We are Little Heaton, a residential care home in Rochdale. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people with a physical disability. What we provide is residential care rather than nursing care, and we say so plainly to families at the outset so that nobody moves somewhere unable to meet their needs. Within it, we help with washing, dressing and moving about safely, support people with medication, provide proper meals and make sure nobody spends the day alone unless that is their preference. The home runs at the pace of its residents. Nobody is woken to suit a rota, mealtimes bend around the person, and how the day is spent is a matter for the individual. Some like the lounge and the conversation that fills it, others would rather keep to their own room. Dementia care here depends on knowing the person. We learn about the work somebody did, the family they raised and the routines that settle them, and we work with all of that rather than correcting anybody about the present. Our staff know residents well enough to notice when somebody is quieter or eating less than usual, and we ring families early rather than waiting. Visitors are welcome whenever they want to come. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Please get in touch to look round.

Middleton Hall Care Home is in Rochdale, on the Manchester side. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available. We try to run a household rather than a facility. Residents bring their own furniture and photographs, keep the routines they have always had and decide for themselves how much they want to be part of what is going on. Nobody is walked to an activity they have not chosen. When somebody moves in we take real time over their history and preferences and we write it down so that every member of staff knows it, because care that changes with whoever is on shift is not care we would accept for our own families. Dementia support rests on familiarity and pace. We keep staffing as consistent as we can, avoid unnecessary change and work out what settles a particular resident. Supporting mental health needs means patience and working alongside community teams. Where sight or hearing is failing we pay attention to lighting, contrast, signage and sound. Meals are cooked on the premises and residents have a genuine say in the menu. Visitors are welcome through the day. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the home and talk to the people living in it.

Here at Hulton Care Home, we provide residential and dementia care for older people, younger adults, and those living with a range of needs in the heart of Rochdale, Manchester. We are a place where residents are treated as individuals, and where the people who live with us genuinely feel at home. We understand that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we do not take that trust lightly. From the moment someone walks through our doors, we want them and their loved ones to feel heard, respected, and properly looked after. Our team takes the time to get to know each resident, learning about their routines, preferences, and what matters most to them day to day. Our specialism in dementia care means we have built an environment and an approach that supports people living with memory conditions in a calm, familiar and consistent way. For younger adults who need residential support, we work hard to make sure life here feels meaningful and appropriate to their individual circumstances, not just a one size fits all approach. We want to be straightforward with people. Our most recent CQC rating reflects areas where we know we need to improve, and we are actively working through those areas with honesty and commitment. We believe families deserve to know where we stand, and we would rather have an open conversation about our progress than make promises we cannot back up. The work we are doing to raise our standards is ongoing, and we welcome scrutiny as part of that process. If you would like to visit, ask questions, or simply have a chat about whether Hulton Care Home might be the right fit for someone you care about, please do get in touch. We are always happy to talk.

Hamilton Rest Home is a residential care home in Manchester, in the borough of Bury. We look after older people who can no longer manage safely at home, and we want them to feel that they live here rather than that they have been put here. We provide residential care, which covers help with washing and dressing, medication, meals, mobility and company, with community health professionals brought in when something clinical is needed. We support residents living with dementia, where continuity and a calm pace do far more good than anything else. We care for residents living with mental health conditions, where a settled environment and staff who notice early changes matter enormously, and residents with physical disabilities or a visual or hearing impairment, adapting how we communicate and how we help with moving about so that dignity and independence are protected. Respite stays are available too. They give family carers a genuine rest, and they let somebody spend time here before any permanent decision is taken. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. That is a standard we mean to keep rather than something to point at. Please come and see the home on an ordinary day, meet the people who live here and make up your own mind about whether it suits.

Woodbury Short Stay in Bury provides short term residential care for older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss. Short stays serve different purposes for different people. Some come to us to give a family carer a proper break. Others need a period of care and recovery after illness or a stay in hospital before going home. Some need a safe and settled place while arrangements at home are being sorted out. Whatever the reason, the aim is the same, which is that somebody leaves in a better position than when they arrived. Because our stays are short, we work quickly to understand what each person needs, and we listen closely to the people who know them best, since a family carer can tell us in ten minutes what would otherwise take us a fortnight to learn. Staff help with personal care, moving about safely, medication and meals, and are trained for the range of needs we support. Rooms are comfortable, meals are cooked here and visitors are welcome. If you are looking at a short stay for yourself or a relative, please contact us and we will talk through what we can offer.

Elmhurst in Bury provides short stays rather than permanent residential care. People come to us for a planned break, to give a family carer a genuine rest, or for extra support and recovery time after a spell in hospital before going home again. Because our stays are short, we work hard to learn quickly what matters to somebody: how they like their day to run, what they eat, what worries them and what they want to be able to do by the time they leave. We help with personal care, medication, meals and moving about safely, and we bring in community health professionals when something more clinical is needed. We support people living with dementia, where familiar faces and a calm, predictable routine matter enormously, particularly when somebody is in an unfamiliar place. We also support people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment, adapting how we communicate and how we assist, and we support younger adults as well as older people. Pemberton Fold is a residential care home in Salford, Manchester, supporting older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather put that first than have somebody find it elsewhere. It is not the rating we want and we are not going to talk around it. There is an improvement plan in place, we are working through it with our staff, the people who live here and their families, and anyone considering a move is entitled to ask precisely what is changing, who is accountable for it and what evidence there is that it is taking effect. The life of the home continues meanwhile and it matters to the people in it. That means help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and mobility given in a way that protects a person's dignity, and for residents living with dementia it means staff who know somebody's history well enough to understand what a particular anxiety is really about. Respite stays are available. We would encourage families weighing us up to visit, ask hard questions and judge our progress for themselves.

We are Half Acre Care Home, a residential care home in Bury, Greater Manchester. We are home to older people and to younger adults, including many people living with dementia, and we also offer respite stays for those who need care for a short while. We try to run the place as a home rather than an institution. There is a rhythm to the day, but it bends around people: breakfast when someone wakes, a quiet room for those who want one, company in the lounge for those who do not. Meals are cooked here, and we pay attention to what people actually eat rather than to what a menu says they should. Dementia shapes a good deal of our work. We aim for calm surroundings, familiar faces and staff who understand that behaviour is communication. When someone is unsettled, our first question is what they are trying to tell us rather than how to stop it. Families are part of the home. Visit when it suits you, join us for a meal, take a relative out for the afternoon, and tell us when you think something is not right, because you will often notice before we do. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep working at it rather than treating it as settled. Orchid Woodlands Healthcare is a residential care home in the Bolton area of Greater Manchester. We support older adults and younger adults, people living with dementia, adults with mental health needs, and people with a physical disability or a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available too. Supporting that range of people under one roof works only if we know each of them properly. A home where everyone is offered the same routine will suit some residents and quietly fail others, so we start from the individual: what their life has been, what they want their day to contain, what settles them and what does not. For residents living with dementia we rely on familiarity, a steady rhythm and time given rather than grudged, and we look for the cause of distress instead of simply managing the moment. For residents with mental health needs, consistency matters most, along with staff who understand that a difficult stretch is part of the pattern rather than a crisis to be reported. Alongside the care there has to be a life worth having: decent food, visitors made welcome, fresh air, something to do, and a genuine say in how the day goes. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. Anyone considering a place here is welcome to visit and form their own impression.

The Hamiltons Care Home is a care home in the Wigan area. We provide residential care for older people, including people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. We aim to be a home in the plain sense of the word. People get up when they want, spend the day as they choose, keep their own things around them and have visitors when it suits rather than when a timetable allows. Staff are here to make that workable and to notice when somebody is not quite themselves. Dementia support is a large part of what we do, and most of it is not complicated. Familiar faces, a day with a recognisable shape, and a team who understand what a person is really asking when they ask the same question for the fifth time. Distress almost always has a reason behind it, and finding the reason is better than managing the behaviour. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Manchester
Dementia changes what counts as a good home. Decor and dining rooms matter far less than whether staff know how to sit with someone who is frightened, and whether the same faces come on shift week after week. Those are the things to test on a visit.
Checking that a home can meet the need
Every home listed is registered with the Care Quality Commission for particular categories of care, and dementia registration is the first thing to confirm. Beyond that, be specific with managers about what happens now: whether your relative walks at night, becomes distressed in the late afternoon, needs help to eat, or has ever left the house alone. A home that hesitates when you describe the reality is telling you something useful.
Reading inspection findings with dementia in mind
Four of these homes are rated Outstanding and thirty nine are rated Good, while nine are rated Requires Improvement and one is awaiting a first inspection. For dementia care, go past the overall rating to what inspectors wrote about whether the service is caring and responsive, since that is where daily life shows through. Look at when the visit happened and what specifically concerned them. Where a home has been marked down, ask what changed afterwards and expect an answer with detail in it.
What a visit should tell you
Come in the afternoon, when restlessness and tiredness tend to peak, and stay long enough to watch a difficult moment being handled. Notice whether people are approached calmly and by name, whether residents can move about safely rather than being kept in chairs, and whether the layout helps someone find the lavatory or the garden without asking. Ask what dementia training staff receive, how many carers work overnight, and how the home settles a new resident through the first difficult fortnight.
Choosing between dementia care homes in Manchester
Two assessments sit behind any funded move, one about need and one about money, and both take time that families rarely have to spare when a crisis arrives.
Requesting a care needs assessment
Anyone who appears to need care and support has a right to a free assessment, whatever their savings, and that includes people whose dementia was diagnosed only recently. Ask Manchester City Council Adult Social Care, the authority responsible for assessments and funded support here, to arrange one. A practitioner will consider memory, orientation, personal care, mobility, medication, eating and risks such as wandering or leaving appliances on, and will record what support is needed. A husband, wife or adult child providing that care can ask for a carer's assessment in their own right.
What dementia care costs and who pays
A financial assessment compares income, savings and capital with nationally set thresholds to decide whether the authority contributes towards fees. Dementia care frequently carries a higher weekly rate than general residential care, because it needs closer supervision and more staff time. Ask each home for its fee schedule in writing, establish which extras sit outside it, and ask specifically what happens to the fee when needs increase, since with dementia they usually do.
Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Manchester
How many dementia care homes are there in Manchester?
Manchester has 54 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 115 CQC registered care homes in Manchester: 3 Outstanding, 40 Good, 11 Requires improvement. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
Which dementia care homes in Manchester were inspected most recently?
Auden House Residential Home (30 June 2026), Trafford Waters Care Home (23 June 2026) and Allendale Residential Home Limited (4 June 2026) have the most recent CQC reports.
Which dementia care homes in Manchester are listed on this page?
54 residential care homes appear here, each registered with the Care Quality Commission to provide accommodation with personal care for people living with dementia. Four are rated Outstanding and thirty nine are rated Good, while nine are rated Requires Improvement and one has not yet been inspected. Each entry opens into a profile giving the rating, registration categories and inspection history. Confirming that a home is registered for dementia care is the first filter worth applying.
What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?
A dementia care home provides accommodation and personal care from staff trained to support people living with dementia. A dementia nursing home offers the same and also has registered nurses on site at all times for clinical needs. The homes on this page are registered for residential rather than nursing care. Where dementia is advanced and accompanied by medical needs such as complex medication or difficulty swallowing, a nursing registration is what to look for.
What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Manchester?
Ask what dementia training staff receive and how regularly it is refreshed. Ask how the home supports someone who becomes distressed or restless, and what is tried before any medication is considered. Find out how many carers are on duty overnight, how stable the staff team has been and how a new resident is helped to settle. Request the weekly fee in writing with everything charged separately, and ask what happens to it as needs increase.
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Manchester?
Contact Manchester City Council and ask for an adult social care needs assessment, by telephone or through its website. The assessment is free and available to anyone who appears to need care and support, whatever their means. A practitioner will discuss memory, daily living, mobility, medication and safety at home, usually in person. Their written record sets out the support identified and becomes the basis for any funded arrangement.
Can Manchester City Council fund a dementia care home placement?
It can where a needs assessment shows residential dementia care is appropriate and a financial assessment supports it. Income, savings and capital are set against nationally fixed thresholds to determine who pays and how much. Where funding is agreed, the authority may arrange a placement itself or contribute towards fees at a home the family prefers. If that home costs more than the agreed rate, a third party may be asked to cover the shortfall.
How early should families start looking at dementia care homes?
Starting months ahead is sensible, because dementia tends to change slowly and then all at once. Assessments take time to arrange, and homes with a strong reputation for dementia care often have waiting lists. Looking early also allows your relative to take some part in the decision while they still can, which matters to many families afterwards. Even a couple of unhurried visits now will make an eventual move considerably calmer.
