About Us
Oakdene Care Home is a residential home in Oldham. We provide care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people with visual or hearing impairment, people with eating disorders and people affected by alcohol or drug misuse. We offer respite stays alongside permanent places.
We support a genuinely mixed group of people, and we plan for each of them separately rather than running one day that everyone has to fit into. For one resident a good day is calm, quiet and highly predictable; for another it is sociable and busy and out in Oldham. Both take thought to support properly.
We help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and mobility, and we try to give only as much help as is genuinely wanted, because independence is easily eroded by being over helpful.
Dementia care is a substantial part of our work, and we take time to learn each person's history and habits so that staff can respond to the feeling behind a difficult moment rather than simply the behaviour. Where we support people with eating disorders or the effects of alcohol or drug misuse, we work closely with the clinical teams involved and are clear about what is ours to do.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
