HF Trust Trelawney is a residential care home in St Austell, Cornwall, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. We also offer respite stays for people who need support for a shorter period or whose usual carer needs a break. The people who live here are adults with their own preferences, opinions and plans, and our job is to support those rather than to manage them. Residents decide how their days go, what they eat, how their rooms look and what they want to work towards. Some are building skills around cooking, budgeting, travel or employment. Others want support to keep doing the things they already enjoy and to stay close to family and friends. Support plans are written with each person, using whatever way of communicating works best for them. We pay careful attention to what helps someone feel settled and what causes them stress, and we shape routines and surroundings around that instead of expecting people to adapt to us. We are part of the local community rather than set apart from it, and we support people to get out to the shops, to clubs, to appointments and to see family. The Care Quality Commission most recently rated us good overall. Please get in touch if you would like to visit and see how we work.

Westwood House is a residential care home in Swindon. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. Having a mixed group under one roof is something we plan for rather than something that simply happens. A younger adult with a learning disability who is working towards more independence and an older resident who mainly wants a settled, unhurried day want very different things from a week, and support here is built around the individual rather than around a single house routine. What we provide is residential care. Staff are on duty through the night as well as the day to help with personal care, dressing, medication and meals, while doctors and district nurses come in for clinical needs. For autistic residents and people with a learning disability we pay particular attention to predictability. Routines that hold, clear information, honest notice before anything changes and real choice prevent far more difficulty than any response after the event. Where somebody is distressed, we look at what is being asked of them rather than treating the person as the problem. Swindon is on the doorstep, and keeping up with family, friends, work or college is part of ordinary life here. Respite stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please ring to arrange a visit.

Winfield Lodge is a residential care home in Bath. We provide care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Our aim is that this feels like somewhere people live rather than somewhere they have been put. Residents bring their own belongings, keep their own routines and decide how the day goes. We provide help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and getting about, and we are careful to give only as much as is wanted, because doing too much for somebody erodes independence just as surely as doing too little neglects it. Dementia care is a large part of our work. We take time to learn each person's history, their habits and the things that reassure them, because that knowledge is what allows staff to respond to the feeling behind a difficult moment rather than simply to the behaviour in front of them. Familiar faces, a calm environment and a predictable rhythm do most of the rest. Where somebody has a physical disability we make sure equipment is properly set up and that staff use it confidently, and we follow the person's own preferences about how they are helped to move. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. You are very welcome to visit Winfield Lodge and see the home as it ordinarily is rather than as it might be prepared for a visit.

Proctor Residential Care Home is in Bristol, supporting adults who are living with a mental health condition. We also offer respite stays for people who need a safe and settled place for a shorter period. We are a small home and that is a deliberate choice. Stability comes more easily somewhere people know each other, where the staff are familiar and where daily life feels ordinary rather than clinical. Residents have their own rooms and a real say in how their days run, what they eat and how they spend their time. Support is planned with each person rather than decided for them. We talk about what helps, what makes things harder, what the early signs look like when someone is becoming unwell and what they want us to do about it. That plan belongs to the resident and is revisited as things change. We encourage independence in cooking, budgeting, travel, work or study wherever someone wants to build those skills, and we support at whatever level is genuinely needed. We work closely with community mental health teams, GPs and other professionals so that support is consistent, and we welcome families and advocates where residents want them involved. Crandon Springs Care Home is a residential home in Wells, and we are glad to be part of this small Somerset city. We offer a permanent home to older people who can no longer manage on their own, and we also take people for shorter respite stays, whether that is planned well in advance or arranged quickly after an illness or a spell in hospital. Most of our residents are older adults who need help through the day and reassurance at night. A number of them are living with dementia, and we shape the house around that: quiet corners for people who find noise difficult, familiar belongings in bedrooms, and staff who know how to steady a moment rather than argue with it. We also support some younger adults whose needs are better met here than in a larger setting. Life here is not regimented. People get up when they wake, eat what they fancy, and spend the day as they wish, with as much or as little going on around them as they want. Families are welcome whenever they can come, and we would far rather they treated the place as an extension of their own sitting room. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. You are very welcome to visit, look around properly and talk to whoever is on shift. That will tell you more than anything we can write here.

Our specialisms reflect the diverse needs of the people we support. We care for younger adults and those living with learning disabilities, autism, or physical disabilities, recognising that every individual brings their own story, preferences, and aspirations. In practice, this means we take time to understand each resident as a person first. We work closely with families to build care plans that respect independence, promote dignity, and encourage meaningful engagement with daily life. Whether someone enjoys creative activities, quiet moments of reflection, or social connection with others in the home, our team is here to make those experiences possible. For families, choosing the right home is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. We understand the weight of that responsibility, and we are committed to being a trusted partner throughout your loved one's journey with us. Barn Park Residential Home is in Beaworthy, in rural Devon. We provide a permanent home to older people and to some younger adults, and we also offer respite stays for people who need care for a short spell or whose regular carer needs a rest. Our residents need a range of help from us. Many need support with personal care, mobility, medication and meals. A number are living with dementia, and for them we keep the daily pattern familiar, keep the same faces around and give people time rather than argument. We also support people living with mental ill health, working alongside community mental health colleagues, and people with physical disabilities, where equipment, seating and access decide how much somebody can do for themselves. We should be honest about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather set that out plainly than have you come across it somewhere else. We understand what the inspectors told us, we are working through it, and we will talk openly about any of it. What this place has going for it is a quiet setting, food cooked on the premises, a garden that gets used and staff who know the people who live here. Please come and see us and ask the hard questions.

We are Creedy Court, a residential care home in Crediton, Devon. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities, and we also offer respite stays. We are a Devon home in a Devon town, and we make use of that. People here go into Crediton, keep up with local churches, clubs and family, get out into the countryside when the weather allows and stay connected to the community they already belong to. Moving into care should not mean disappearing from the place you have lived. Support is agreed with each person and written down plainly, covering what they want help with, what they would rather manage alone and what to do when things become difficult. We review it properly rather than as a formality, because needs change and a plan written a year ago is often out of date. We keep our staff team as settled as we can. Familiarity matters to everybody and matters enormously to people who find change hard, so continuity is something we plan for rather than hope for. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep auditing ourselves regardless. If you are considering a home in the Crediton area, come and visit. The Hamptons is a residential care home in Cheltenham. We are home to older people and to younger adults who need support with daily life, including people living with dementia, people with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people whose sight or hearing has failed them. Moving into care is rarely anybody's first choice, and we try to remember that. The aim is not to run a smooth institution but to give people a settled place where the hard parts of the day are taken care of and the rest of life is still theirs. Staff are on duty overnight as well as through the day, meals are cooked on site, and help with washing, dressing and medication is given quietly and without fuss. For residents living with dementia we keep the day predictable, the surroundings easy to understand and the staff group as consistent as we can manage. For residents with a physical disability or sensory loss we look hard at what actually gets in the way, because most of those barriers are practical and can be fixed. Cheltenham is a good town to live in and we make use of it where people want to. Respite and short stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Here at High View, we are a residential care home based in Truro, Cornwall, and we support a wide range of people with varying needs and backgrounds. Our team works with older adults, younger adults, people living with a learning disability or autism, those with a physical disability, and individuals with a visual or hearing impairment. We also offer respite care for people who need short term support, giving family carers a chance to rest while knowing their loved one is in a safe and familiar environment. We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a person or family will ever make, and we do not take that lightly. Our aim is straightforward: to make sure everyone who lives here feels comfortable, respected, and genuinely at home. We try to get to know each person as an individual, understanding what matters to them day to day and building care around that rather than the other way around. We want to be honest with the people we support and their families. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as requires improvement, and we have taken that feedback seriously. We are actively working through the areas identified and making changes that we believe will make a real difference to the people in our care. We welcome that kind of scrutiny because ultimately it helps us do better. Our team in Truro is made up of people who genuinely care about the work they do, and we are committed to learning and improving as we go. Blenheim Lodge is a residential care home in Minehead. We support older people who need help with daily living, and we take respite bookings for families needing a short break or for somebody who needs a period of extra support after illness or a hospital stay. We aim to feel like a house rather than a unit. People rise when they wake, keep their own furniture and photographs around them, choose how the day is spent and are not hurried through the parts that take longer than they used to. Mealtimes are something to look forward to rather than something to get through, and visitors are welcome throughout the day without arranging it beforehand. Minehead and the coast are part of what draws people here, and we make use of them. Getting out, even for a short while, does more for most people than anything that happens indoors. When somebody's needs are changing we raise it early and talk it through with the family, rather than arriving with a decision already taken. These conversations go far better when there is still time to think properly. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. We are a residential home in Gloucester supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic people, including younger adults. The house runs as a household rather than an institution. Everyone has their own room and their own things, and the week is worked out between the people who live here and the staff supporting them: what is cooked, when the shopping is done, who wants to go out and where to. Those are small matters that add up to whether somebody feels at home or merely accommodated. Support is built around what each person wants to be able to do. For some that means a job, a college course or a regular volunteering day. For others it is getting out into the city, keeping up with family, managing money with a hand from staff, or learning to cook something new. We take the long view, since progress in this work is usually gradual and the gains that matter are often ones nobody outside the house would notice. Consistency counts for a great deal, particularly for autistic people, so we keep staffing as settled as we can and explain changes in advance rather than springing them on people. Respite stays are available alongside longer places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are looking for a place, please come and visit and meet the people who live here.

Primrose Lodge Southbourne is a residential care home in Bournemouth. We provide care for older people together with respite stays for those who need a short break. We do one thing and we try to do it well. There is no nursing unit here and no specialist wing. What we offer is a comfortable house near the coast where older people are looked after properly, treated as adults and left in charge of their own days as far as they are able. That starts with asking. When somebody moves in we want to know their history, their preferences, their worries and their routines, and we write it down so that every member of staff knows it rather than only whoever carried out the assessment. It continues with small things done reliably. Meals people actually want, help offered discreetly, laundry back where it belongs, a hairdresser when it is wanted, the garden used when the weather allows. Families are part of it. Visitors come and go through the day, can stay for a meal, and are kept properly informed rather than telephoned only when something has gone wrong. Bournemouth and the coast are home for most of our residents, and we support people to keep up with the friends, clubs and churches they have always had. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the home, ideally without arranging it first.

Crofton Springs is a residential care home in Cheltenham caring for older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia and people with a physical disability. Our aim is a home where people are known properly rather than simply looked after. That takes staff who stay long enough to learn somebody's history, habits and preferences, and care that is planned with the person rather than written about them. Help is given with washing and dressing, with transfers and moving safely, with medication and with eating and drinking well. For those living with dementia we keep the day predictable and the surroundings familiar, adjust how we communicate rather than expecting the person to adjust to us, and pay attention to what somebody is telling us when words are no longer reliable. The home is somewhere people live. Rooms are personalised with belongings that matter, meals are cooked here with a real choice, there is company for those who want it and quiet for those who do not, and visitors are welcome. Respite and short stays can be arranged, which suits families needing a break and people wanting to try the home before deciding. If you would like to look round, please telephone us and we will arrange a visit.

- Care Home
Renaissance Residential Home is a care home in Torquay providing a home for older people, younger adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people with physical disabilities, people with loss of sight or hearing, and people living with eating disorders. That range works because we build support around the individual rather than around a category. One person may need help with almost every part of the day and another hardly any, and both live here on the same terms. We ask each person what a good day looks like for them, write it down in a form that makes sense to them, and change it when they say so. Where somebody is living with an eating disorder, mealtimes call for a particular kind of patience and consistency, and we make sure the staff involved understand that rather than treating food as a task to be got through. For those living with dementia we keep the routine steady and the faces familiar. For people with sensory loss we adapt how rooms are lit and how we approach and announce ourselves. Respite stays are available. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

- Care Home
We are a residential care home in Swindon supporting adults with mental health needs, and we also offer respite stays. Much of what we do comes down to stability. Many of the people who come to us have been through periods of upheaval, hospital admissions or living arrangements that broke down, and what helps most is a settled home, a routine they can rely on and staff who are still here next month. We support people with medicines, appointments, personal care where it is wanted, cooking, budgeting and the ordinary business of running a life, without taking those things over. We work closely with community mental health teams, care coordinators and GPs, and we treat reviews as a real opportunity rather than a form to complete. When somebody is becoming unwell, acting early makes a considerable difference, so our team are trained to notice changes and raise them straight away. Recovery means different things to different people. For some it means moving on to their own tenancy in time, and we will work towards that honestly and at their pace. For others it means staying well, staying out of hospital and having a home they need not worry about losing. Both deserve our full effort. Respite stays are available and are planned properly rather than treated as filling a gap. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Anyone considering a placement is welcome to visit and ask us direct questions.

Warwick House is a residential care home in Paignton supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We are a household rather than an institution, and the people who live here have a real say in how their own home is run. Support is planned around the individual. Some of the people here need help with most parts of the day; others need very little practical help but rely on us for routine, encouragement and staff who understand how they communicate and what they find overwhelming. We take our time at the start, and we ask the people who know somebody best rather than relying on a file. Everyday life covers the ordinary things: cooking, shopping, laundry, keeping your own room how you like it, deciding what to do at the weekend and getting out locally, including down to the seafront. We support people to do as much for themselves as they can and want to, which sometimes means standing back and letting a task take longer. Our staff are trained for the individuals they support, including communication and positive ways of responding when somebody is distressed, and we keep the team consistent because trust builds over months rather than in a single shift. Respite stays are available and give family carers a proper break while the person has a genuine stay with us. Please contact us if you would like to look round.

The Minster is a residential care home in Bridgwater, Somerset, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, and people with physical disabilities. Most of those living here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. We think of this as where people live rather than where they have been placed, and that governs ordinary decisions. People arrange their own rooms, have a say in the food and the shopping, and come and go as adults. Where somebody can do something themselves, our job is to make that possible rather than to do it faster for them. Where somebody wants work, a course or a club, we treat that as the purpose of the support rather than a pleasant extra. It is usually the thing that makes the rest of the week worth organising. Predictability matters here. For a good number of the people living with us, knowing what is happening and who will be on shift is the difference between a settled day and a difficult one, so we plan ahead and explain changes early rather than rearranging casually. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here what would make this a better place to live, and we act on the answers rather than recording them.

Here at Alexandra House, we are proud to be a care home in the heart of Bristol, supporting adults who need a little more help to live well and feel genuinely at home. We work with a wide range of people, including younger adults living with a learning disability or autism, those experiencing mental health challenges, and individuals who need short term respite care. Our team takes the time to get to know each person properly, understanding what matters to them in daily life, what brings them comfort, and what they want to work towards. We believe that good care is built on real relationships, not just routines. Our approach to residential care centres on treating every person as an individual. We take the time to understand people's histories, preferences and goals, and we work alongside families and professionals to make sure support is joined up and consistent. For those coming to us for respite, we aim to make that short stay feel as settled and reassuring as possible, whether it is a first visit or a return stay. We are pleased that our most recent Care Quality Commission rating reflects the standard of care we work hard to maintain every day. A rating of good means a great deal to us, but we never stop looking at how we can do things better. Bristol is our home too, and being part of this community matters to us. We encourage people to stay connected to local life in ways that suit them, whether that is getting out and about or welcoming familiar faces through our doors. If you are looking for care for yourself or someone you love, we would genuinely welcome the chance to have a conversation and show you what life at Alexandra House looks like.

Bramley House is a residential care home in Mere, Wiltshire. We support older people who need help with daily living, including people living with dementia and people with a physical disability, and we take respite bookings for families needing a short break or a period of extra support after illness. We try to run the place the way a household runs rather than the way an institution does. People get up when they wake, eat what they actually like, keep their own furniture and photographs about them and carry on with the habits that make them feel themselves. Relatives are welcome without appointment, and we would far rather people dropped in than waited for a visiting slot. Supporting somebody living with dementia asks for patience and a good memory for detail. Our staff learn the small things: the favoured chair, the songs that settle somebody, the hours of the day that are harder, the stories worth hearing again. None of that appears in a care plan, but it is what separates a home that works from one that merely functions. Being in a small Wiltshire town suits a lot of our residents, and we make sure nobody feels cut off from the people and places they know. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are looking at residential or respite care in this part of Wiltshire, please arrange to visit.

Here at Eldra Court, we are a care home based in the heart of Teignmouth, on the beautiful Devon coast. We support adults with learning disabilities and autism, offering both residential care and respite care to the people who come to live with us or stay for shorter breaks. We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a person or their family will ever make. We do not take that lightly. Our aim is straightforward: to make sure each person who comes through our doors feels genuinely at home, respected, and understood. We take time to get to know people properly, because good care only happens when you understand who someone is, not just what their needs are on paper. Our team works hard to support people to live as independently as possible, with as much choice and control over their daily lives as we can give them. Whether that means how someone spends their morning, what they eat, or how they like to be supported, we follow the individual's lead. For those joining us on a respite basis, we put just as much thought into making the stay positive and settled, for the person themselves and for the families and carers who may be taking a much needed break. We are proud that our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission resulted in an overall rating of Good, which reflects the effort and commitment of everyone who works here. Teignmouth itself is a lovely town, and we enjoy being part of the local community. The sea air, the beach, and the surrounding Devon countryside all form a natural backdrop to life here, and we make the most of that whenever we can. If you would like to find out more about Eldra Court, we would be very happy to hear from you.

We at Cherry Tree Lodge are proud to offer a warm and welcoming residential care home in Bournemouth, providing dedicated older person care in a setting that truly feels like home. Nestled within the coastal town of Bournemouth, our home offers a peaceful sanctuary where residents can enjoy comfort, companionship and compassionate support every day. Our location in the BH postcode area places us within the vibrant community of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, giving families the reassurance of knowing their loved ones are cared for in one of the South West's most cherished coastal towns. The surroundings offer a gentle pace of life, and our home has been thoughtfully arranged to create a comfortable environment where residents can relax, socialise and feel genuinely at ease. At the heart of what we do is our commitment to older person care and residential care, delivered with warmth, patience and respect. We understand that moving into a care home is a significant step, and we work closely with each resident and their family to make the transition as smooth as possible. Our team takes the time to learn about each person's history, preferences and routines, so that daily life feels familiar and personal rather than clinical. From assistance with everyday tasks to companionship during quieter moments, we aim to preserve independence whilst offering the reassurance of support whenever it is needed. We also provide respite care, which can be a lifeline for families who care for a loved one at home. Whether you need a short break to rest and recharge, or you are looking for supportive care following a hospital stay, our respite stays offer the same high standard of attention as our long term residency. Respite guests are welcomed warmly into the community of the home, sharing meals, activities and the friendly atmosphere that defines Cherry Tree Lodge. Family involvement is something we truly value. We encourage relatives and friends to visit, share meals and take part in the life of the home, because we know that strong connections with loved ones are central to wellbeing. Our approach is built on open communication, so families are kept informed and involved in decisions about care, comfort and daily living. We are proud to hold an overall rating of Good from the Care Quality Commission, following their inspection in October 2018. This rating was awarded across every domain assessed, including Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well led. For families, this offers meaningful reassurance that the care provided at Cherry Tree Lodge meets the standards expected by the national regulator, and that our approach to safety, leadership and compassionate care has been independently recognised. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the emotions involved. If you are exploring options for a loved one in Bournemouth or the surrounding areas, we warmly invite you to get in touch with us. We would be delighted to answer your questions, share more about daily life at the home and help you consider whether Cherry Tree Lodge might be the right place for your family. Whatever stage of the journey you are at, please know that a caring conversation awaits you here.

Arliemoor Care Home is in Holsworthy, Devon. We provide residential care for older people and for younger adults who need support with everyday life. We are a small town home in a rural part of the county, and that shapes what living here is like. It is quiet, there is space, and a good number of the people who live with us have spent their lives in this part of Devon. Familiar names and familiar country outside the window help somebody feel that they have moved rather than been sent away. What we offer is residential rather than nursing care. Staff are here through the night as well as the day to help with washing, dressing, medication and meals and to keep the household running, while local doctors and district nurses look after clinical needs. For a great many people that combination is exactly right, and it leaves far more of their independence intact than a clinical setting would. Beyond the help they need, residents run their own days. When to get up, what to eat, whether to sit with company or alone, and who visits all stay with the person. Respite and short stays are available, for planned breaks and for recovery after illness. Please ring us if you would like to come and look round Arliemoor.

Bowden Derra Park is a residential care home near Launceston supporting a broad range of adults, including people with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with mental health needs, residents with a physical disability, people living with sight or hearing loss and people living with dementia. That range means assessment matters. Before anybody moves in we want to be sure we can meet their needs properly and that the placement will work for them and for the people already living here, and we say so honestly when we think we are not the right place. Support is planned one person at a time. For one resident that may mean help with most of the day, including personal care and help to move safely. For another it may mean very little practical help but a good deal of structure and staff who understand how they communicate. We pay close attention to what settles somebody and what unsettles them. The right equipment and training are in place for people with physical support needs, and where there is sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate. Being out in the Cornish countryside means space, air and somewhere to go when the house feels busy. Respite stays are available. Please contact us if you would like to visit.

Astor Hall is a residential care home in Plymouth. We support older people and younger adults who need help with daily living, including people living with dementia, people with a learning disability or autism and people with a physical disability. We also take respite bookings. Because people arrive here by very different routes, we do not run the home to one pattern. Some residents need a good deal of hands on support through the day. Others mainly want a settled base, a bit of structure and somebody reliable to check in with. We work out which is which by asking, and we keep asking, because what somebody needs on arrival is rarely what they need a year later. People keep their own belongings around them, choose how the day goes and are not hurried through the parts that take longer than they once did. Families are welcome throughout the day and we would rather they came often and informally than waited for an invitation. Communication gets close attention here, because understanding a person properly is what allows them to have a say in their own life. Kanner Project is a residential care home in Plymouth supporting adults with a learning disability or autism, including older people and younger adults. We also offer respite stays, which can give a family carer a genuine break while the person staying with us has company and a change of surroundings. This is somebody's home before it is anything else, and we try hard to run it that way. People have their own rooms, their own routines and a real say in how their days go. Support here is about making ordinary things possible rather than doing them for people. Cooking a meal you actually want. Doing your own shopping. Managing money and appointments. Getting to a club, a course or a job. Keeping in touch with family and friends. We pay attention to that distinction, because independence is quietly worn away by help that arrives too quickly. Communication matters a great deal to us. Not everybody here uses many words, and understanding somebody properly takes time, attention and a willingness to be corrected rather than assumptions. We also pay close attention to the environment itself, since noise, light and unpredictability can make an ordinary day far harder than it needs to be. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep examining our practice around choice and privacy. Highgrove Care Home is a residential home near Wimborne for older people who are finding it hard to manage alone but who do not need nursing care. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and the ordinary business of the day, without taking over the parts somebody can still do themselves. What matters most to us is that this feels like a home rather than a place where people are kept. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they sit, what they watch and whether they want company or their own quiet room. Nobody is moved along to suit a timetable. Meals are cooked here and we ask people what they actually want to eat. Visitors are welcome without appointment, and families are free to stay for a cup of tea or take a relative out for the afternoon. We try to keep links with the town going, because for many of our residents this part of Dorset has been home for most of their lives. We also offer respite stays. These can give a family carer a genuine rest, help somebody regain strength after illness, or let a person see what living here is like before making any lasting decision. September Lodge is a small residential home in Truro, Cornwall, and it is home to adults with learning disabilities and to autistic adults. We also offer respite stays, planned well in advance so that a short stay means arriving somewhere familiar rather than somewhere strange. We run this as the residents' house. People choose how their bedrooms look, they have a genuine say in the shopping and the meals, and they get involved in cooking, gardening and looking after the place as much as they want to. Support covers personal care where it is needed, medication, health appointments and money, and it covers getting out to whatever somebody is interested in, whether that is work, a course, a club, a place of worship, the beach or a regular visit to family. Where we put most of our effort is understanding each person properly. Some people here use speech, some use signs, symbols or a device, and some tell us what they need through their behaviour. We take the time to learn it, we write it down so it survives a change of shift, and we take advice from families and from health colleagues who have known somebody far longer than we have. 80 to 82 London Road is a residential care home in Bristol, supporting adults living with mental health conditions. Mental health support in a residential setting works best when it is steady and undramatic. People come to us at different points: some after a long period in hospital, some when living alone has stopped being workable, some while they rebuild after a difficult stretch. What most people need is not intensity but stability, and a place where the basics are taken care of while they find their footing again. So we keep the house calm and predictable. There is help with personal care and medication for those who want it, meals, and staff on hand at any hour. Beyond that, people run their own lives. They decide how they spend the day, who visits, what they eat and how much they join in. People generally know their own patterns better than we do, and our job is to be useful in the way they have told us is useful rather than to impose our own idea of what recovery ought to look like. Where somebody wants to work towards moving on, we support that. Where somebody needs a settled home for the long term, that is equally fine. Respite stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to visit.

Greystones is a residential care home in Bath supporting older people. We are a residential home, so life here is domestic rather than clinical. The day is made of meals worth sitting down to, company when it is wanted and quiet when it is not, familiar routines, visitors at whatever hour suits them, and time outside as an ordinary part of the week. Help with washing, dressing, medication and moving about fits around all of that instead of setting the shape of it. Our approach begins with somebody's life so far. What the work was, who the people are, what a normal Sunday used to look like, what they have never been able to abide. Care planned from that fits the person, and it makes a considerable difference to how settled somebody becomes in the early weeks, which tends to shape everything that follows. We try hard to keep real choice in the day. People sit where they like, eat what they actually want, get up when it suits them and see visitors when it suits them. Being moved along to fit a staff routine is the thing that makes a care home feel institutional, and we work at avoiding it. Respite stays are available, which gives a family carer a properly planned break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. You are welcome to visit without an appointment, and we would rather you came on an ordinary day.

Orion House is a residential care home in Bideford in Devon. We support adults, including younger adults, who have a learning disability or autism, who live with mental ill health, or whose sight or hearing is impaired, and we also offer respite stays. This is somebody's home first and a care setting second. People here have their own room and their own belongings, and they have a genuine say in how the week runs, what goes on the shopping list and how the house feels to live in. Where somebody needs help to make a decision, our job is to support the decision rather than take it over. Our team is used to working with people who communicate in different ways, and we spend time learning how a person tells us what they want before we assume anything. We support people to keep hold of the things that make life theirs, whether that is a job, a course, a club, time with family or a regular trip into town. Devon is a good place to be for that, and we make use of what is around us rather than keeping life indoors. When somebody is finding things difficult we look for the reason and we plan ahead with them, in calm moments, about what actually helps. We work alongside GPs, community teams, social workers and families, and we keep people informed. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Anyone considering a place here, for themselves or a relative, is welcome to visit as often as they need.

The Vicarage is a residential care home in Holsworthy, Devon, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Respite stays are part of what we do. We are a small household and that is the most important thing about us. Everybody is properly known rather than known in outline, staff notice when somebody is off colour without needing it reported, and the house runs around the people in it instead of the reverse. A small home cannot offer what a larger one can in facilities, and we say so plainly, because for some people a bigger setting suits better. People choose their own rooms, share in the shopping and the meals, and have a hand in how the place runs. Where somebody wants a job, a course or a club, we treat that as the purpose of the support rather than an extra. Being in a small Devon town means people get known locally on their own terms, which does more for confidence than anything we could arrange indoors. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We think the useful question is whether people here look at ease, so come and look.

Primrose Lodge is a residential care home in Weymouth for older people who are finding it hard to manage alone but who do not need nursing care. Being in Weymouth means the sea is close by, and getting out for some air is part of ordinary life here rather than a special outing. We also offer respite stays. These can give a family carer a genuine rest, help somebody regain strength after illness, or let a person see what living here is like before making any lasting decision. Come and see us and ask us anything you want.

- Care Home
Callisto is a residential care home in Pewsey in Wiltshire. We support adults with a learning disability or autism and adults living with mental ill health, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. We start from the view that this is somebody's home and their life, not a programme they are enrolled on. People here have their own rooms, their own routines and a real say in how the house runs, from what goes on the shopping list to how noisy or quiet the place is at any given time. Where a decision is genuinely difficult, our job is to help somebody make it rather than to make it for them. Our team takes time to learn how each person communicates and what they are telling us, including when they are not using words. When somebody is finding life hard we look for the cause and we plan ahead with them, in calm moments, about what actually helps. We work alongside GPs, community mental health teams, social workers and families, and we keep everyone informed. We also support people to keep hold of the things that make life worth getting up for, whether that is work, college, a club, a faith community or regular time with family. Being in a village means we make a point of getting out and about rather than letting life shrink to these four walls. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Visitors are always welcome.

- Care Home
Burdon Grange is a nursing home in Beaworthy, out in the Devon countryside. We care for adults who need registered nursing alongside residential support, including people with physical disabilities and people living with a visual or hearing impairment. The setting matters here. We are not on a busy road in the middle of a town, and for a good number of the people who come to us that quiet is part of the appeal. It is a place where somebody can sit outside, watch the weather come across the fields and not feel hurried by anything. Nursing cover is what allows us to support people whose needs are genuinely complex. That means managing medication, skin and pressure care, mobility and the sort of steady health monitoring that catches a problem early. For people with a physical disability we look closely at equipment, positioning, transfers and the time each of those things properly takes, because rushing is where dignity and safety both go. Sensory loss is given the same attention. If somebody cannot see or hear what is going on around them, they will withdraw, and we would far rather adapt how we communicate than let that happen. We take respite bookings as well as permanent placements, whether that is to give a family carer a break or to support somebody while they regain strength. If you would like to see Burdon Grange, please ring us and we will arrange a visit.

Oak House is a residential care home in Axminster supporting older people, including many living with dementia, and some younger adults. We also welcome respite guests. We want the home to feel like a house rather than a facility. Mornings are flexible, meals are proper meals, and residents choose how they spend their days. Staff take time to learn what someone actually enjoys, which is usually more particular than any general activities programme would suggest. Dementia care takes up a good part of our attention. We keep routines familiar, the building calm and the staffing consistent, and we go with the person rather than correcting them. When a resident becomes distressed we look for the cause, since distress almost always has one, and families often know exactly what settles someone and what does not. We would much rather ask them. For younger residents we make sure the day contains something that belongs to their own generation rather than expecting everyone to live the same afternoon. Respite stays are available and give family carers a genuine break, with the person staying receiving exactly what a permanent resident receives. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. If you are looking at homes in this part of Devon, please arrange to come and visit us on an ordinary day.

We are a care home in Torquay, part of Keychange Charity, caring for older people and younger adults. We support people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people affected by sight or hearing loss. Being part of a charity shapes how we think about the home. Decisions about staffing, food and the fabric of the building are made with the people living here in mind rather than with an eye on a return, and everyone is welcome regardless of background or belief. What we ask of ourselves is patience, kindness and treating people as individuals rather than as a set of needs. Support covers personal care, medicines, mobility and everyday life, given at whatever level each person requires and no more. For people living with dementia, we keep routines calm and familiar and train our team to respond to the feeling behind what someone says. For younger adults and people with disabilities, we look for what independence can be kept or regained. Respite stays are available and planned with the same thought as permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Anyone considering the home for themselves or a relative is welcome to visit, meet the team and ask us anything, including the awkward questions.

Castle Hill House Care Home is a residential care home in Bodmin, Cornwall. We support older people who need help with daily life, including many living with dementia, and people with physical disabilities. We also offer respite stays. We are a home of a size where everybody is properly known, and that is the basis of everything else we do. Our team notices when somebody eats less than usual, sleeps badly, seems low or becomes unsteady on their feet, and it is dealt with the same day rather than at a review in a month. Residents run their own days. When to get up and go to bed, what to eat, whether to sit with others or keep to their own room with their own things around them. Rooms hold people's own furniture and photographs, and nobody comes in without knocking. Most of the people who live here come from Bodmin and the countryside around it, so there is plenty of shared ground, and family and friends call in freely. For residents living with dementia, consistency helps most, so we keep staffing settled and learn each person's history properly. Where somebody has a physical disability, we work around what they can still do rather than taking over. Health needs are managed alongside local GPs and community nurses. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and look round.

Pottles Court is a residential care home in Exminster in Devon. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people living with mental ill health, people with physical disabilities and people whose sight or hearing is impaired, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are proud of that and we are clear that it describes the work of the people on shift rather than anything in a brochure. It is also not a finished job. We keep asking the people who live here and their families what is working and what is not, and we act on what comes back, because a rating from last year means little to somebody making a decision this week. What the rating reflects, we think, is consistency and time. Staff who stay long enough to know people properly. A home where the day is arranged around the people in it rather than the rota. Rooms that are genuinely personal. Visitors welcome without ceremony. Support with washing, dressing, medication, meals and mobility given in a way that leaves somebody their dignity. Supporting people of different ages together takes thought, so we plan individually rather than expecting everybody to fit one pattern. Please come and see us, meet the team and talk to the people living here and their families before you decide anything.

St George's House is a residential care home in Tiverton, Devon. We are home to older people, both for the long term and for shorter respite stays when a family carer needs a break. We keep our priorities plain: good food, warm rooms, laundry that comes back, help when it is wanted and privacy when it is not. Residents get up and go to bed when it suits them rather than when a rota finds it convenient. We take real trouble over knowing people, their working life, their family, which chair is theirs, how they take their tea, because those details are how somebody stays a person here rather than becoming a resident. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather write that here than have a family find it elsewhere and wonder why we said nothing. We accept what was identified and we are working through it. We are not going to claim it is all resolved, because that is not something we could honestly promise in a paragraph. What we would ask is that anybody considering us comes without an appointment, sees the place on an ordinary afternoon, talks to residents and relatives out of our hearing, and puts hard questions to us about what has changed and what has not yet. That is a fairer test than anything written here.

Cypress Lodge is a residential care home in the Bristol area supporting adults, including younger adults, who have a learning disability or autism or who live with mental ill health. We offer respite stays alongside permanent places. We want to be straight about where we stand. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We know what the inspectors found, we have an improvement plan and we are working through it with the people who live here, their families and their social workers, reporting on progress as we go. If you are considering a place, please ask us precisely what was wrong, what has changed and how we are checking that it holds. What we are working to protect meanwhile is the character of the house. This is somebody's home, not a unit. People have their own rooms and their own belongings, they have a real say in how the week is spent, and they are supported to do as much for themselves as they want to, whether that is cooking, shopping, managing money or getting out and about. Our staff take time to learn how each person communicates, and when somebody is finding life hard we look for the cause rather than the label and plan ahead with them about what helps. Please come and see the house, meet the team and ask us the hard questions. We would rather have that conversation than not.

Maiden Castle House is a residential care home in Dorchester, caring for older people who can no longer manage safely on their own. We aim for the feel of a household rather than an institution, with people keeping their own routines, their own belongings and a genuine say in how their day goes. We support people living with dementia, where a steady and familiar routine is worth more than anything else we could offer. We also care for people living with a physical disability, where good support is largely about practical independence and dignity, people with sight or hearing loss, where the right adjustments make a real difference to a day, and younger adults, whose day we plan around their own interests. Respite stays are available too, for people who need care for a short period after illness and for family carers who need a proper break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take that as the standard to hold rather than an achievement to rest on. The better test is the everyday evidence, whether people are up and occupied, whether mealtimes are sociable and whether relatives feel able to raise something early. Please come and see us.

We are The Old Vicarage, a residential care home in Budleigh Salterton. We care for older people, including many living with dementia, people with a physical disability, and people with a visual or hearing impairment. We have tried to keep the feel of a house rather than an institution. People bring their own furniture and pictures, come down when they wake rather than when a rota says so, and spend their days as they please. Some like the sitting room and the conversation that goes with it, others prefer their own room with the radio on, and neither choice needs explaining. Dementia care takes patience and it takes knowing the person. We spend time learning about the work somebody did, the family they raised, the music they grew up with and the routines that settle them. We do not argue about what year it is. We meet people where they are and find something good to do together. Where somebody has a visual or hearing impairment, we make sure every member of staff knows how that person prefers to be approached and spoken with. Small things, done consistently, make an enormous difference. We keep families informed and would rather ring early about a small worry. Visitors are welcome whenever suits them. At Eldon House Residential Home, we provide a warm and genuinely homely environment for the people who live with us here in Liskeard, Cornwall. We are proud to support a wide range of individuals, including older adults, people living with dementia, those with learning disabilities or autism, mental health needs, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments. We also welcome younger adults and offer respite care for those who need a short term stay, as well as support for people managing eating disorders or alcohol and drug misuse. We understand that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a person or their family will ever make, and we do not take that lightly. Our aim is simple: to make sure every person who comes through our door feels safe, respected, and genuinely at home. We take the time to get to know each individual, learning about their preferences, their routines, and what matters most to them, so that the care we provide fits around their life rather than the other way around. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as Good, which reflects the commitment our whole team brings to the day to day life of our home. We are always looking at how we can do things better, listening to residents and their families, and making sure our approach remains person centred and responsive to changing needs. Living at Eldon House means being part of a small community where people genuinely look out for one another. Whether someone is with us for a short stay or has made this their long term home, we want their experience here to be one of comfort, dignity, and connection. We would always encourage anyone who is curious about what we offer to come and visit us and see the home for themselves.

Astell House is a residential care home in Cheltenham, and the people who live here are older men and women who have reached a point where managing alone at home has become difficult. We provide their care, their meals and their company, and we try to do it in a way that still feels like ordinary life rather than an institution. We support people living with dementia as well as those who simply need help with the practical side of the day, such as washing, dressing, moving about safely and keeping on top of medication. Where memory is failing, we work to keep what is familiar in place, including routines, belongings and the things a person has always liked doing, because that steadiness matters more than almost anything else we can offer. We also take people for respite stays, whether that is to give a family carer a proper break, to allow someone to recover after a spell in hospital, or to let a person try living here before making a longer decision. Respite guests are treated exactly the same as everyone else and join in with whatever is going on. Cheltenham is on our doorstep and we like people to stay part of it, so visitors are welcome, families are kept informed, and anyone thinking about a place with us is welcome to come and see the house for themselves and ask us anything.

Westbury Nursing Home and Westbury Garden Suite together provide nursing and residential care in Bristol. We support older people, including those living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss, and we also support some younger adults with nursing needs. Respite stays are available for shorter periods. Having both residential and nursing care here means people can often stay with us as their health needs change rather than facing another move, which matters enormously to families who have already been through one. The clinical side is only part of what we do though. Most of what makes a day good or bad has little to do with nursing. It is whether somebody was helped at their own pace, whether the food was something they genuinely wanted, whether their room feels like theirs and whether they were asked rather than told. Dementia support is a significant part of our work. Familiar staff, steady routines and patience do more good than anything else, along with a real effort to understand what somebody means when words have become unreliable. Where people have sight or hearing loss we take particular care over how we communicate so that nobody is left out of what is happening around them. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep examining the detail rather than treating it as settled. If you are considering a home in Bristol for a relative, please come and see us and ask us whatever you need to know.

Arranging and funding a care home place in the South West
The South West covers a broad stretch of England, from the coastal communities of Cornwall and Devon through Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. Across this region our directory lists 1,362 residential care homes, ranging from small family-run houses to larger purpose-built settings. If you are beginning to think about a move into residential care, the first practical steps are usually the same wherever you live: understand the level of support needed, find out what funding may be available, and get a realistic sense of local fees before you shortlist homes.
Starting with a care needs assessment
A care needs assessment is the formal way to establish what daily help someone requires, and it is the gateway to any publicly funded support. You can request one through the local authority Adult Social Care team, and the assessment is free regardless of income. A social worker or assessor will look at personal care, mobility, medication, memory, nutrition and social contact, then produce a written summary of eligible needs. This document is useful even for people who expect to pay privately, because it gives care homes a clear starting point when discussing whether they can meet the person's needs.
Funding, means testing and typical costs
After the needs assessment, a separate financial assessment decides how much the local authority will contribute. Savings and capital thresholds apply, and the value of a property is usually included unless a spouse or certain other relatives still live there. Residential fees in the South West vary widely by area and by the type of home, with coastal towns and larger converted properties often sitting at the higher end. It is worth asking each shortlisted home for a written fee schedule that shows what is included and what is charged as an extra, such as hairdressing, chiropody or escorted trips.
Choosing between care homes in the South West
With more than 1,300 residential settings in the region, filtering the list is the real challenge. Every home in our directory carries a Care Quality Commission status, and across the South West the current sample includes Outstanding ratings such as Firgrove House, Ridgeway House and Harbour Rise Rest Home, a large majority rated Good, a smaller number rated Requires Improvement including Grange Court, Holly Tree Cottage, Chosen Court and Nutley Lodge Care Home, and a handful not yet rated such as Osborne House and St Omer Residential Care Ltd.
Reading CQC reports properly
The overall rating is a useful headline, but the five key questions underneath it tell you far more. Look at whether the home is Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led, and pay particular attention to the date of the last inspection. A home rated Requires Improvement that has since had a positive follow-up visit may be a very different proposition to one where concerns are unresolved. Homes that are not yet rated are often newer registrations, so ask the manager directly about staffing, training and clinical oversight.
What a visit should tell you
Try to visit at different times of day. Look at how staff greet residents by name, whether call bells are answered promptly, and whether communal areas feel lived in rather than staged. Ask to see a sample care plan, the activities programme for the last month, and the most recent menu. Homes such as Cathedral View, Menna House, Courtlands Care Home, Chard Manor and OSJCT Marden Court are examples from our South West listings, but the right choice depends on location, atmosphere and the specific needs of your relative rather than name recognition.
Frequently asked questions about care homes in the South West
How many care homes are there in the South West?
The South West has 1,362 CQC registered care homes: 62 Outstanding, 1,091 Good, 140 Requires improvement, 7 Inadequate, 62 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
How much does a care home cost in the South West?
Self-funders are typically asked £1,400 to £1,650 a week. Middle half of prices from 52 South West homes. Median £1,549. Published prices are often starting prices, and come from homes that publish fees, so treat them as a guide. What a council pays differs from council to council. Ask the home for its own price.
Which care homes in the South West were inspected most recently?
The Yelverton Residential Home (30 September 2026), Ladden View (29 September 2026) and Southlands Residential Care Home (28 September 2026) have the most recent CQC reports.
Can the local authority fund a care home placement in the South West?
Yes, the local authority can fund all or part of a residential placement following a needs assessment and a financial assessment. If someone has capital below the upper threshold and eligible needs, the local authority will contribute towards fees, though the person is still expected to pay an assessed contribution from income such as pensions. Where savings and property equity are above the threshold, the person usually pays their own fees until their capital falls to the relevant level. It is worth asking about deferred payment agreements if the main asset is a home that cannot easily be sold.
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in the South West?
You can contact the local authority Adult Social Care service directly and request an assessment for yourself or a relative, and referrals can also come through a GP or hospital discharge team. The assessment is free and does not depend on income. An assessor will visit in person or speak by phone and video, and will consider practical daily tasks alongside safety, mental wellbeing and social contact. You will receive a written outcome that can be shared with any care home you approach.
How far in advance should I start looking for a care home in the South West?
Where possible, begin exploring options several months before a move is likely, because the most sought-after homes in the South West often have waiting lists. Starting early also allows time for a proper needs assessment, financial planning and unhurried visits. In urgent situations, for example after a hospital admission, decisions sometimes have to be made within days, and the local authority hospital team can help identify homes with immediate vacancies. Even in a crisis, try to visit at least two homes before committing.
Which providers in the South West offer residential care?
Our directory currently lists 1,362 residential care homes across the South West, spanning Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Bristol. These include small homes such as Breage House, Inglenook House and Katherine House Rest Home, alongside larger settings such as Regency Manor Care Home and Lakeside Care Home. CQC ratings across the sample include Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement and not yet rated. You can filter the full list on Care Assura by location, rating and specialism to narrow the choice.
What should I ask when visiting a care home in the South West?
Ask about the staff-to-resident ratio at different times of day, how care plans are reviewed, and what happens if a resident's needs increase. Enquire about the activities on offer, access to gardens or outings, and how the home manages relationships with GPs, district nurses and pharmacists. Check the fee structure carefully and confirm what is included, what counts as an extra, and how future increases are handled. Finally, ask to speak to a relative of a current resident if that is possible.
What is the difference between a residential care home and a nursing home?
A residential care home provides help with personal care such as washing, dressing, meals and medication prompts, along with companionship and activities, but does not have qualified nurses on duty around the clock. A nursing home is registered to provide nursing care, meaning a registered nurse is on shift day and night to manage more complex clinical needs such as wound care, tube feeding or advanced dementia. All 1,333 homes on this South West page are residential care homes rather than nursing homes. If nursing input is likely to be needed soon, it is often better to choose a home already registered to provide it.
