Comparing nursing homes in Hampshire is what this listing exists for, putting the registered field in one place so a family can weigh homes against each other instead of chasing them one at a time. One hundred and fifty one providers are included, every one registered to deliver nursing care, which means a qualified nurse is on duty rather than reachable by telephone. The inspection outcomes differ from home to home. Outstanding ratings belong to homes such as Kingfishers, Camberley Woods Care Home and Knights' Grove Care Home, Good ratings also feature, some homes are marked Requires Improvement, and a few have yet to be rated by the Care Quality Commission. Hampshire County Council is responsible for the care needs assessment that establishes what support a person requires, and for the financial assessment sitting behind any funded placement. Whichever homes reach your shortlist, open their profiles and work through the inspection reports properly, since the reasoning underneath a rating is what tells you how a home is really run.

Durban House is a nursing home in Romsey, Hampshire, caring for older people whose health needs require qualified nursing alongside support with daily life. Registered nurses work with our care team, which means we can look after people with conditions that need regular clinical attention, support those recovering after illness or a hospital stay, and continue caring for someone as their needs increase rather than asking them to move on. We also care for residents living with dementia, keeping the day calm and familiar, and for people living with a physical disability, where the practical details of equipment, timing and being allowed to do things at your own pace matter enormously. Respite stays are available for people who need nursing care for a short period, often while a family carer takes a planned break or while someone regains strength before going home. We would rather be open with you about our regulator. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are not content with that. We have taken it seriously, work is under way to put things right, and we are willing to go through it properly with anyone considering the home. If you are thinking about nursing care in the Romsey area, please come and see Durban House. Look round without being hurried, meet the staff, talk to residents and their visitors, ask us the difficult questions and judge us on what you find. Ring us and we will arrange a time that suits you.

We are Allenbrook Nursing and Residential Care in Fordingbridge, Hampshire. We provide both nursing and residential care for older people, including those with a physical disability, and we also take respite stays. Offering both kinds of care under one roof has a practical advantage that matters more than it may sound. Somebody who comes to us needing residential support and whose health later becomes more complicated does not have to move somewhere new at exactly the point when a move is hardest. They stay where they are, with the staff and the surroundings they already know, and the level of care changes around them. Nursing cover is available at every hour, which also means care at the end of life can be given here rather than elsewhere. For residents with a physical disability, the difference between good care and poor care is usually time and detail: an unhurried transfer, equipment set up as it should be, and asking the person how they prefer it done. Respite guests are assessed and looked after exactly as permanent residents are. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Tudor Lodge Nursing Home provides nursing care in Fareham for older people, including people living with dementia, and we also take planned respite stays. Having qualified nurses here throughout the day and night changes what we can do. Health conditions can be watched and managed as they shift, medicines are reviewed properly, and people who would otherwise be shuttled in and out of hospital can usually be cared for where they already live, by staff who know them well. For people approaching the end of their lives, it means comfort, dignity and family around them rather than an ambulance. Nursing is not the whole of it, though. The people here are residents before they are patients, and we try to keep ordinary life intact. Residents decide when to get up and how to spend their time, meals are something to enjoy rather than a task on a chart, and relatives are welcome to come whenever they like without ringing ahead. For residents living with dementia, we keep the day familiar and the pace unhurried, and we work with what somebody can still do rather than dwelling on what they cannot. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking residents and families how we are doing, because an inspection is a snapshot and daily life is the real test.

We are Alverstoke House Nursing Home in Gosport, Hampshire. We care for older people who need qualified nursing as well as support with daily living, including people with physical disabilities, and we also look after younger adults with nursing needs. Respite stays are available. We have kept our focus clear rather than trying to cover every kind of provision. Nursing care is what we do, and having nurses on duty at all hours is what allows health needs to be looked after as they change, so that nobody has to move again just as they have settled. Around the nursing we try to keep ordinary life going. People get up when they want, eat what they like, choose where to sit and keep their own belongings and routines. We take the trouble to learn a person's history and preferences, because that is what allows staff to see the individual rather than the list of needs, and it is what makes an early change in somebody's condition obvious. Where somebody has a physical disability, access, equipment and getting about get proper attention, so those needs are met without fuss. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable hour. Please ring us if you would like to visit.

New Forest Nursing Home is in Lyndhurst, caring for adults who need qualified nursing support alongside help with everyday living. Registered nurses are on duty at all hours, which means clinical needs can be met here in familiar surroundings rather than through repeated journeys elsewhere. Most of the people who live with us are older and many are living with dementia. We build the day around the person as far as we can. Mornings that are not rushed. Food somebody actually wants. Familiar music. Somewhere to sit outside. Staff who can tell whether company is welcome or whether quiet would be better. For people living with dementia we keep the constants steady and follow their pace rather than imposing ours. We also support people with physical disabilities, where the right equipment and genuine respect for how somebody prefers to be helped make the difference between feeling cared for and feeling handled. Younger adults with nursing needs live here too. Respite stays are available, whether a family carer needs a planned break or somebody needs nursing support for a few weeks while regaining strength. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please arrange a visit if you would like to see the home.

Little Haven is a nursing home in Southampton, Hampshire. We provide nursing care for older people and for younger adults whose health needs mean that qualified nurses should be available at any hour. The people who live here have a broad range of needs. Many are living with dementia, some are managing mental health conditions, and many have physical disabilities or sight and hearing loss. That mix asks a great deal of a team, and it is why we plan around individuals rather than categories. What somebody needs clinically is only part of the picture. How they communicate, what settles them, what they like to eat and when they prefer to sleep belong in the plan too. We work closely with GPs, community teams, therapists and hospital specialists so that treatment is prompt and people are not moved about more than necessary. Families are kept informed, and what they know about the person shapes how we care for them. Respite stays are available for families needing a planned break and for people requiring nursing support for a short period. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Please ring us or call in. We will show you round, answer your questions honestly and help you decide whether Little Haven is the right place.

Beechcroft Green Nursing Home is in Gosport, Hampshire. We provide nursing care for older people, including many residents living with dementia and people with a physical disability, and we offer respite stays. Registered nurses are on site around the clock, which means medication, wound and pressure care and changing health needs are managed here as they arise, sparing residents the upheaval of moving on each time their condition alters. Most of what makes a day good here, though, has nothing to do with nursing. It is being helped out of bed at the hour you would choose, eating something you actually fancy, having your own pictures on the wall and having someone sit down beside you rather than talk across you. Those are the first things to be squeezed when clinical demands rise, so we protect them on purpose. For residents living with dementia we keep the routine predictable and the staffing familiar, and we ask families for the details of a person's life that help a conversation start. We work closely with general practitioners, district nurses and hospital teams, and we tell families about health changes rather than waiting for their next visit. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Chatterwood Nursing Home is in Liss, Hampshire. We care for adults who need registered nursing as well as help with daily living, including older people, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and younger adults whose health needs call for a nurse on hand at any hour. Nursing cover is the practical reason most people come here. It allows us to manage complex medication, skin and pressure care, continence and nutrition, and to keep close enough watch on health that a change is noticed early rather than becoming an emergency. Where somebody is nearing the end of their life, it means we can keep them comfortable in a place they know. The clinical side is only part of the job. It is easy for a nursing home to become somewhere everything happens to people and nothing is decided by them, and we work against that. Residents choose their own bedtimes, what they eat, whether they join in and who visits. For people with a physical disability, the thing that matters most is time. Transfers, positioning and personal care take as long as they take, and rushing is where both dignity and safety are lost. Respite and short stays are available, including after a spell in hospital. Please ring us if you would like to look round Chatterwood and talk things over.

Cherry Blossom Manor is a nursing home in Tadley, Hampshire. We care for older people whose health needs require qualified nurses on hand, and we do it in a house that is meant to feel like somewhere people live rather than somewhere people are treated. Having nursing staff here means we can look after people with more complex or changing health needs without them having to move again. It also means families can stop managing a rota of appointments and go back to being a daughter or a husband rather than a coordinator of care. A large part of our work is with people living with dementia. We give that the time it needs. Rushing someone who is confused rarely ends well, so our routines are built with enough slack in them for people to move at their own pace. We also care for younger adults with nursing needs, and we offer respite stays for families who need a break or for someone who needs a period of recovery after hospital. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. We keep our own eye on the things that matter between inspections, particularly whether people look comfortable, well fed and properly involved in their own care. If you are weighing up nursing care for someone close to you, please come and see us. It is a difficult decision and it is much easier to make once you have walked round and met the people here.

Medication, wound care, continence, pain and the increasing frailty that often comes with great age can all be managed here, so nobody has to move again simply because their needs have grown. Alongside the nursing we work to keep ordinary life going. People get up when they want, eat what they like, choose where to sit and keep their own belongings and habits. We take the trouble to learn a person's history and preferences, because staff who know somebody well are the ones who notice quickly when they are not themselves. Court Lodge is a nursing home in Lymington, Hampshire. We care for older people whose needs go beyond residential care, for younger adults living with conditions that call for qualified nursing, and for people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available when a family carer needs a break or cover. Nurses are on duty here at every hour, and that shapes everything. Medication is managed properly, wound care, catheter care and conditions that vary from week to week are handled on site, and a change in someone's health is usually spotted early because the person noticing knows them well. We work closely with GPs, district nurses, therapists and hospital teams, and we press on a resident's behalf when something is slow to arrive. Dementia care sits alongside the clinical side, and the two are not separate. Somebody in pain or frightened who cannot explain it will show us in other ways, and reading that properly depends on knowing the person. So we learn about working lives, families, music, food and old habits, and we keep the day calm and familiar rather than full of surprises. For residents with physical disabilities, the emphasis is on equipment that fits, transfers done safely and without indignity, and as much independence as somebody wants to keep. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families are welcome at any reasonable time. If you would like to look round, ring us and come on a normal working day.

We are Wisteria Lodge, a nursing home in Waterlooville, Hampshire. We care for older people who need qualified nursing alongside help with daily living, including people living with dementia, and we take respite admissions for shorter stays. We have kept our focus clear. Nursing care for older people is what we do, and we would rather do that thoroughly than stretch ourselves across every kind of provision. Nurses on duty at all hours mean health needs can be looked after as they change, so that nobody has to move again just as they have settled somewhere. Nursing homes can easily feel clinical, so we work against that. People get up when they want, eat what they like, sit where they choose and keep their own furniture, pictures and routines. We ask about the details of a life, the work someone did, the garden they kept, the hour they prefer to be left in peace, and we write those things into how we work so they survive a change of shift. For people living with dementia, the useful work is in the detail: recognising early what unsettles them and going at their pace. We are Treloar College in Alton, providing residential nursing care alongside education for young disabled people. We support students with a physical disability, a learning disability, autistic students, and students with a visual or hearing impairment, many of whom have complex health needs. What makes this work is that the care and the education are not run as separate things. Nursing support, therapy and learning sit together around the same person, so a young person does not have to choose between getting their health needs met and getting on with their studies and their life. Qualified nurses are on hand, which means complex health needs are managed here rather than becoming a reason why somebody cannot take part. The point of all of it is independence. Where a young person wants to take on more for themselves, whether that is communicating in a new way, managing their own routines, travelling or making their own decisions, we work at it patiently and we do not decide in advance what is beyond anybody. Communication is the foundation of everything we do, and we make sure every member of staff understands how an individual expresses what they want. Our most recent CQC overall rating is outstanding. We are Flowerdown Care Home, a nursing home in Winchester, Hampshire. We provide nursing care for older people and for younger adults, and we welcome people for respite stays as well as permanent places. Having qualified nurses on site at all hours is what a nursing home is for. It means a change in someone's health is noticed by people who know them and acted on straight away. It means a person does not have to move when their condition becomes more complicated. And it means care at the end of life can be given here, with familiar faces around, when that is what somebody and their family want. Everything else is ordinary living, and we work at not letting the clinical side crowd it out. People keep their own routines, their own things and their own views about how the day should go. Meals are something to enjoy. Visitors come when it suits them rather than when it suits us. Respite guests are assessed and looked after in exactly the same way as anyone staying permanently, whether that is for a fortnight after hospital or while a family carer has a break. We are Bourley Grange, a nursing home in Fleet, Hampshire. We care for older people and younger adults needing nursing support, including those living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we take respite admissions as well as permanent residents. Having qualified nurses here at every hour is the practical difference between us and a residential home. Changes in a resident's health are picked up by staff who know them, a move elsewhere is rarely necessary when a condition shifts, and care at the end of life can be given here among familiar people. Where dementia and a sensory impairment occur together, we check the simple explanation before the complicated one. A hearing aid that is not working accounts for a great deal that otherwise gets recorded as confusion. For residents with a physical disability the practical details matter most: enough time that a transfer is unhurried, equipment set up properly, and asking the person how they prefer it managed. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Bickerley Green Care Home with Nursing is in Ringwood, Hampshire, and we care for older people and younger adults who need qualified nursing support, including many people living with dementia. People generally arrive at a point of change, often straight from hospital, often after a period when home had stopped being safe. Our first task is to steady that. We take time to learn how somebody was living before, what they can still do and want to keep doing, and what has frightened them recently, because a settled person recovers better than an anxious one. The clinical work that follows is substantial. Medication, wound care, mobility, continence, nutrition and the management of complex long term conditions all need proper attention, accurate records and close work with GPs and community health teams. Around it runs the ordinary business of living somewhere, which means meals worth eating, company, fresh air, and being spoken to as an adult with opinions even when speaking back has become difficult. Respite and recovery stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and families are welcome to visit on a normal day.

- Nursing Home
St Benedicts Ferndale House is a nursing home in Gosport, Hampshire, caring for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people managing mental health conditions. Nursing care exists because some needs cannot safely be met at home, and we take that responsibility seriously. Our nursing team manages medication, wounds, mobility, nutrition and complex health conditions, and we work closely with GPs and community health teams so that nobody falls between services. Records are kept properly and handovers are thorough, because most avoidable problems in this work come from something known by one person and not passed on. Supporting people with mental health needs asks for patience, consistency, and staff who do not take a bad day personally. It also asks that we keep seeing the person rather than the diagnosis, which sounds obvious and is easy to lose sight of when somebody is unwell. Respite stays are available as well as longer arrangements. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families are welcome to visit and see the home on an ordinary day.

Home Park is a nursing home in Eastleigh, Hampshire, caring for people living with dementia who also have nursing needs. Having qualified nurses on the team alongside our care staff means we can look after people whose health needs go well beyond what a residential home could safely manage. Dementia care is not something added on here, it is the heart of what we do, and it shapes everything from how we speak to somebody to how the day is arranged. What helps most is unglamorous: familiar staff who know a person's history, a routine that does not shift about, food that is recognisable and reassurance given as patiently the tenth time as the first. Alongside that we manage medication, nutrition, skin care, pain and comfort, and we keep in close contact with GPs and community health teams so that care is properly joined up. Respite stays are available for families who need a planned break or extra support after a hospital discharge, and they can also be a gentler way of finding out whether the home suits somebody. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families are welcome at any reasonable hour, and we would always rather hear a worry early.

Bonhomie House is a nursing home in Southampton, caring for adults whose health needs require nursing support alongside help with everyday life. Having qualified nurses on the team means we can look after people whose needs would be beyond a residential home, and that residents are not moved on each time those needs change. We support adults with physical disabilities and adults with a learning disability or autism whose health needs call for nursing care, as well as older adults with ongoing conditions. We manage medication, nutrition, skin care, pain and comfort, and we help with washing, dressing and moving about in a way that leaves as much as possible in the resident's own hands. We care for people living with mental health conditions, where a settled environment and staff who notice early changes matter greatly, and we support people affected by alcohol or drug misuse without judgement. We also care for younger adults, planning their days around their own interests. Respite stays are available for families needing a break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would sooner tell you that ourselves than have you find it later. The areas identified are where our effort is concentrated, and we are glad to discuss them with anyone considering us.

Langdale Nursing Home is a nursing home in Gosport. We provide nursing care for older people, including people with a physical disability, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. People usually come to us at a point of change, often after a long hospital stay or when managing at home has stopped being realistic. That is an unsettling time for anybody, and much of our work in the first weeks is about helping somebody feel steady again: sleeping, eating, having their own belongings around them and getting their medication right. With nurses on duty at all hours, medication, skin care, nutrition, pain and mobility are managed here, and a change in somebody's condition is picked up by people who know how they usually are. Families often tell us the biggest relief is no longer being the ones responsible for noticing everything. We also work at the ordinary parts of the day. People are helped to be up and dressed if that is what they want, to eat food they actually like, to get outside and to see whoever they want to see. Being well looked after and having a day worth getting up for are two different things. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit if you are considering nursing care in this part of Hampshire.

Gorselands is a nursing home near Ringwood in Hampshire. Because we are registered for nursing care, we can look after people whose health needs are more complex than a residential home can safely meet, with qualified nurses working alongside our care team rather than visiting from outside. We look after medication, nutrition, skin care, pain and comfort, and we help with washing, dressing and moving about in a way that leaves people doing what they still can for themselves. We work closely with GPs and community health teams so that care is joined up. Dementia care is a large part of what we do, and it depends on continuity more than anything else: familiar staff, a routine that holds steady and reassurance given without any hint of impatience. We also care for residents with physical disabilities, adapting how we assist with moving about so that dignity is protected. The Grange Nursing Home is a nursing home in Basingstoke, with registered nurses on duty around the clock alongside our care team. We look after older people whose health needs require nursing, younger adults with nursing needs, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, and people with loss of sight or hearing. The nursing covers management of long term conditions, wound and skin care, continence support, help where eating and swallowing have become difficult, and careful oversight of medication. We work closely with local GPs, district nurses, dietitians and therapists, and we ask for specialist advice early rather than waiting to see how matters develop. Alongside that we work at keeping the day from becoming clinical. The most valuable parts of a week here are usually the least medical: a visit from family, a conversation that runs on, a turn round the garden when the weather allows. For people living with dementia and for those with sensory loss we keep the routine steady and adapt how we communicate. Respite stays are available. Kingfisher Court is a nursing home in Southampton supporting older people and younger adults with nursing needs, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities, people with loss of sight or hearing, and people living with mental health conditions. Registered nurses are on duty alongside our support team. We should be honest about our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, which is requires improvement. We would rather you heard it from us. We know the areas that were identified and there is a programme of work in hand, with changes already made to staff supervision and training, to how care is recorded, and to how families are included in decisions. Please ask us about it directly when you come. The work continues as it should meanwhile. Having nursing on site means health needs can be met here rather than requiring somebody to move again. Communication gets particular attention, and where somebody has sensory loss we adapt how we approach and announce ourselves. Respite stays are available. Please visit and ask us anything.

Ancasta Grove is a nursing home in Southampton. Having qualified nurses on duty means we can care for people whose health needs go beyond what a residential home can safely manage, and it usually means somebody can stay with us as their needs increase rather than facing another move. We care for older people who need nursing support, including many living with dementia and many with physical disabilities, and we support some younger adults whose needs are met well here. Respite stays are available for people needing nursing care for a limited period. Clinically our attention goes where it counts: medication, skin integrity, nutrition and hydration, pain, safe moving and handling, and acting early when a condition is changing. Where physical disability is part of the picture we think hard about equipment, seating and positioning, because those details decide how comfortable and how independent somebody can be. We work closely with the GP practice and the community health teams who support us. Beyond the clinical side, this is where people live. Residents keep their own rooms and their own belongings, choose when to get up and what to eat, and can have company or quiet as they prefer. Families are welcome at any reasonable hour. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please arrange to visit.

Freelands Croft Care Home is a nursing home in Fleet, Hampshire. We are registered for nursing care, which means qualified nurses are here around the clock rather than visiting, and that is what allows us to take people whose needs a residential home could not safely meet. Most of the people living with us are older adults, and a large proportion are living with dementia. We also support younger adults whose health needs call for nursing. Coming here is rarely anybody's plan. It usually follows a fall, a hospital admission, or a long stretch in which a husband, wife or daughter slowly realised they could not keep going. We try to meet families at that moment with some tact, and we do not ask anybody to repeat their whole story to four different people. The nursing is careful and unhurried. Medicines, wounds, pain, pressure care, eating and drinking well, and keeping close enough watch on each resident that a change gets picked up early. Beyond that we are mainly interested in whether somebody is comfortable, whether they are bored, and whether they have seen the people they love this week. Respite admissions are available as well as permanent places. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and look round, and bring the questions you are reluctant to ask.

Winchester Heights Care Home is a nursing home in Winchester, Hampshire, providing nursing and personal care for older people and for younger adults whose health needs go beyond what can reasonably be managed at home. We care for residents living with dementia, residents with physical disabilities and residents with visual or hearing impairment, and we offer respite stays for shorter periods. Qualified nurses are part of our team, which means a resident whose health becomes complex or changeable does not have to move on again to get the care they need. We work closely with doctors, district nurses and therapists whenever someone's condition alters, and clinical care is given with the same regard for privacy and dignity as every other part of the day. Dementia care shapes much of what we do. Knowing a person's history, the people and places that matter to them and the rhythms that suit them is what allows us to reassure someone who is anxious instead of correcting them. For residents with sensory loss we adapt how we communicate and how rooms and shared spaces are arranged, so that nobody is quietly left out of a conversation or an activity. Mobility and independence are protected wherever they exist. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and keeping it depends on ordinary daily details.

Knights' Grove Care Home is a nursing home near Southampton. We provide nursing care for older people and younger adults, we support people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are pleased with it and wary of it, because the standard takes considerably more effort to hold than to reach, and the surest way to lose it is to start believing your own description. What gets us there is not complicated. A settled team who know the residents properly rather than in outline. Nursing on site at all hours so that problems are caught early. A day that belongs to the people living in it, so that residents decide when to get up, what to eat and how much company they want. Families who feel able to say when something is wrong, and a manager who is on the floor. For those living with dementia, we work from who the person has been, not only from what they can currently manage. Please come and visit if you are considering nursing care locally. Come unannounced if you would rather.

Emsworth House Care Home with Nursing provides nursing care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support some younger adults. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Having registered nurses on site around the clock means clinical needs are met in the home rather than through repeated trips to hospital. Wound care, catheters, diabetes, pain relief and the gradual changes that come with frailty are managed by people who know the person, in surroundings they know. Families can ring and speak to somebody who can actually tell them how their relative has been that day. Most of good nursing care is small things done reliably and on time. Pressure care that does not slip. Mouth care that is not skipped. Someone sitting with a person who is frightened at three in the morning. Those are the things worth judging us on. The other half of the job is a life worth getting up for. Residents choose their routines, their rooms are their own, and nobody joins in with anything out of politeness. With dementia we keep the surroundings calm and familiar, keep staffing as consistent as we can, and treat distress as something with a cause. Respite stays suit people needing nursing input briefly and family carers needing a genuine break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit us in Emsworth.

Ashley Lodge Care Home is a nursing home in New Milton. We care for older people and younger adults with nursing needs, including people living with dementia and those with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available. Qualified nurses are on duty at all hours, which means complex health needs, medication, wound and continence care and care at the end of life are managed here rather than requiring somebody to move again. It also means that when a resident begins to become unwell, the people who notice are the ones who know them. Nursing is the foundation rather than the point of the place. Our residents live here, and what makes a day a good one is usually ordinary. A proper breakfast, the paper, familiar music, the garden when the weather allows, and staff with time to sit down and talk about something other than care. For residents living with dementia we keep the day steady and unhurried and we learn what reassures a particular person. For those with physical disabilities we pay attention to equipment, transfers and how the building is arranged, so that independence is protected wherever it can be. Where somebody is nearing the end of life we plan openly with them and their family, keep them comfortable and make room for relatives to stay. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Visitors are welcome through the day. Please come and see the home for yourself.

Marnel Lodge Care Home is a nursing home in Basingstoke, providing nursing care for older people and younger adults across Hampshire, including many people living with dementia. Having qualified nurses on site at all hours is what allows us to look after people whose health needs are substantial and liable to change. Medication, wound care, careful attention to nutrition, pain and skin, and the close monitoring that catches deterioration early are the ordinary content of our days rather than exceptional events. For families worn down by a run of hospital admissions, the end of that cycle is usually the first change they notice. Dementia nursing is a large part of what we do. People living with advanced dementia are often assumed to have stopped noticing, and in our experience that is simply wrong. Tone of voice registers. Being rushed registers. A familiar face registers. So we protect continuity of staffing, we talk to people rather than about them, and we take the time to learn what soothes a particular person when they are frightened. We support younger adults as well as older people, and we try to remember that a younger person with nursing needs has a different idea of what a week should contain. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. Visit at a busy time, speak to the nurses on duty, and ask how the difficult nights are handled rather than the easy afternoons.

Rowan Lodge is a nursing home near Hook, Hampshire. We support older people whose needs include nursing care, including many living with dementia and people managing mental health conditions. We also offer respite stays. Having registered nurses as part of the team means people whose health needs are complex can stay with us as those needs change rather than having to move on again. Families who have already been through one difficult move usually recognise the value of that immediately. We work at keeping the nursing from setting the tone of the place. A nursing home can drift into feeling like a ward, and once it does the rest follows: people stop being asked what they would like, days lose any shape of their own, and relatives begin behaving like hospital visitors. So we keep our attention on ordinary things. Meals worth eating. Getting outside when the weather allows. Help without a long wait. Privacy. For residents living with dementia we protect routine, keep surroundings familiar, and ask relatives for the details that let us understand what somebody means rather than only what they said. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. If a relative rings with a concern, we would rather deal with it that day.

Maryfield is a nursing home near Hook, Hampshire. We care for older people and younger adults whose needs include nursing, including many living with dementia and people with physical disabilities, and we offer respite stays. Nursing under the same roof means continuity of both staff and surroundings when somebody's health changes, which is the whole point of a place like this. We work at keeping the atmosphere domestic rather than clinical. Once a nursing home starts feeling like a ward, residents stop being consulted about their own day and visitors begin behaving like hospital visitors, so we protect mealtimes, fresh air, unhurried help and privacy deliberately. We also pay attention to pain, including in people who cannot easily tell us about it. Unexplained agitation is usually a message rather than a behaviour, and reading it that way is one of the more important things our staff do. Having younger residents as well as older ones means we plan individually rather than running one programme. Somebody in their forties who needs nursing care has not finished with life, and we try hard not to treat them as though they had. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking residents and relatives what we have stopped noticing, since they see the place differently from us.

Canford Manor Nursing Home is in Lee On The Solent. We care for older people who need nursing support, including those living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Having registered nurses on site around the clock means clinical needs are met in the home rather than through repeated trips to hospital. Wound care, catheters, diabetes, pain relief and the gradual changes that come with frailty are managed by people who already know the person, in surroundings they know. Being close to the water, a change of scene is easy to arrange. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit Canford Manor.

Belmore Lodge is a nursing home in Lymington, Hampshire. We provide nursing care for older people and we also support some younger adults with nursing needs. Respite stays are available for shorter periods of care. Having qualified nurses on site means people can remain with us as their health needs change rather than facing another move, which matters a great deal to families who have already been through one difficult transition. The clinical side is only part of it though. Most of what makes a day good or bad here has little to do with nursing. It is whether somebody was helped at their own pace, whether the food was something they genuinely wanted, whether their room feels like theirs and whether they were asked rather than told. We would rather be judged on those ordinary things. Knowing how everybody likes their breakfast, which chair is theirs, who wants company in the morning and who would far rather be left with a newspaper. We ask about these preferences, record them and expect them to be followed. Families are welcome whenever it suits them, and we keep in touch honestly rather than waiting for problems. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take it as confirmation that the everyday things are sound and we keep examining the detail. If you are considering a nursing home in this part of Hampshire for a relative, please come and see us and ask us whatever you need to know.

Familiar staff, steady routines and patience do more good than anything else, along with a real effort to understand what somebody means when words have become unreliable. Arranging and funding a nursing home place in Hampshire
The word nursing does a lot of work in this part of the care system, and it is worth being clear about it before comparing homes. A nursing home is registered to keep a qualified nurse on duty at every hour, which is what separates it from a residential home where staff are trained in care but not in clinical practice. 142 nursing homes are listed for Hampshire, so the task is less about finding options than about reducing them to a shortlist that genuinely fits.
When nursing registration is the right answer
Nursing care suits people whose health needs are ongoing rather than occasional. Wound care, catheter or stoma management, closely monitored medication, support after a stroke and conditions that can change quickly all point towards a home with nurses on site. Where the help needed is mainly with washing, dressing, meals and company, a residential home may serve just as well and cost less each week. Some homes here are registered for particular groups, and SeeAbility Heather House Nursing Home is one example of a service supporting more specific needs.
What the ratings across Hampshire show
Outstanding, Good and Requires Improvement ratings all appear in these listings, and some homes have not yet been rated because they are newly registered or waiting on a first inspection. Look at the date of the report as well as the rating, because a judgement made some time ago describes a home as it was then. Where a home was marked down, read which of the key questions caused it, and ask the manager directly what has changed since inspectors visited.
Making a visit count
Try to see a home twice, once arranged and once at a busier hour such as late morning or mealtime. Ask how many nurses and care staff are rostered overnight, how absence is covered, and how long the registered manager has been in post. Notice whether residents who cannot easily speak for themselves are still spoken to, because that habit says more about a home than any tour.
Choosing between nursing homes in Hampshire
Families often work through this in reverse, ringing homes first and reaching the council only once a place has been offered. Taking the assessment first gives you a clearer brief for the search and an earlier answer on what help towards the cost is available.
The care needs assessment
Anyone who appears to need care and support can ask for an assessment, it is free, and savings make no difference to the right to have one. Hampshire County Council is the authority responsible for carrying it out and for the care and support plan that follows, which sets out the level of care needed and whether nursing is the appropriate setting. Homes use that plan when deciding whether they can meet somebody's needs safely, so having it in hand makes early conversations far more productive.
Council support and NHS contributions
A financial assessment weighs capital, income and property against the national thresholds to decide what the council contributes and what the person pays. Separately, NHS funded nursing care is paid straight to a home towards the nursing part of the fee for residents who qualify, whoever is meeting the balance. Where somebody's needs are primarily health needs, NHS continuing healthcare can cover the placement in full, and it is reasonable to ask whether that has been considered.
What fees look like in practice
Each home sets its own fees, which move with room type, location and the level of clinical support provided. Ask for the fee written down, with a clear list of what falls outside it, how often it is reviewed and what has happened to fees in recent years. Ask as well what the home does if private funds run down, because the answer tells you how it treats residents over the long run.
Frequently asked questions about nursing homes in Hampshire
Which nursing homes in Hampshire does this page cover?
This page lists 142 nursing homes across Hampshire registered with the Care Quality Commission. Homes such as Birchy Hill Care Home, Home Park Nursing Home and Bramshott Grange sit alongside settings registered for more specialist support. Each listing carries the current CQC rating where one has been published. Opening a profile shows you the findings behind that rating before you approach the home.
What should I ask when I visit a nursing home in Hampshire?
Ask how many registered nurses are on duty by day and by night, and how the home covers sickness and annual leave. Find out how long the manager has been in post and how much the nursing team changes, since a settled team usually means more consistent care. Ask how care plans are reviewed, how families are kept informed and how the home works with district nurses and hospital teams. It is fair to ask too what would happen if the person's health needs increased.
How does a nursing home differ from a residential care home?
A residential care home provides personal care, meals, company and supervision from staff trained in care rather than nursing. A nursing home is registered to provide clinical care as well, with a qualified nurse on duty at all times. Every home on this page holds that nursing registration. Where someone needs regular clinical attention such as wound care, catheter management or complex medication, the nursing setting is the safer choice.
Can Hampshire County Council fund a nursing home placement?
It can, where a financial assessment shows capital and income falling below the national thresholds. The council assesses the level of need first, then looks separately at finances to work out its contribution and what the person pays from their income. NHS funded nursing care is also paid towards the nursing element of the fee for those who qualify, whoever meets the rest. If the primary need is a health need, NHS continuing healthcare may fund the placement in full.
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Hampshire?
Contact the adult social care team at Hampshire County Council and request an assessment for the person needing support. It is free and open to anyone who appears to need care, whatever their income or savings, and either the person or a relative can ask for it. A practitioner will look at daily living, mobility, health conditions, risk and the support already coming from family. The care and support plan that follows guides both the choice of home and any funding decision.
How far ahead should we start looking at nursing homes?
Sooner than most families think, because the better regarded homes in Hampshire often hold waiting lists and rarely have the right room free immediately. If a hospital discharge is coming, start as soon as nursing care is first raised rather than waiting for a date. Seeing even a handful of homes in advance changes a rushed decision into a considered one. Where nothing is pressing yet, early visits cost an afternoon and make the eventual choice much less fraught.
