About Treloar College
We are Treloar College in Alton, providing residential nursing care alongside education for young disabled people. We support students with a physical disability, a learning disability, autistic students, and students with a visual or hearing impairment, many of whom have complex health needs. What makes this work is that the care and the education are not run as separate things. Nursing support, therapy and learning sit together around the same person, so a young person does not have to choose between getting their health needs met and getting on with their studies and their life. Qualified nurses are on hand, which means complex health needs are managed here rather than becoming a reason why somebody cannot take part. The point of all of it is independence. Where a young person wants to take on more for themselves, whether that is communicating in a new way, managing their own routines, travelling or making their own decisions, we work at it patiently and we do not decide in advance what is beyond anybody. Communication is the foundation of everything we do, and we make sure every member of staff understands how an individual expresses what they want. Our most recent CQC overall rating is outstanding.
