    • Home Care

We provide care at home to people living in Eastbourne and across East Sussex, working with older people and younger adults, with people living with dementia, with people managing mental health conditions, and with people who have physical disabilities or a visual or hearing impairment. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather state that at the outset than have anybody come across it elsewhere. It is not where we intend to be. There is an improvement plan in place, we are working through it, and anyone considering our support should feel free to ask exactly what is being changed, who is responsible for it and what evidence there is that it is making a difference. We will answer plainly rather than in generalities. The work itself continues meanwhile and it matters to the people who depend on it. Our carers help with personal care, medication, meals, household tasks and getting out of the house. What we are concentrating on are the foundations of reliable home care, which means consistency of carers, accurate records at every visit and proper oversight of what actually happens rather than what the schedule says should happen.

    • Home Care

County Medicare Professional Nursing & Care supports people in and around Heathfield in their own homes. Our purpose is straightforward, which is to make it possible for somebody to stay where they want to be for as long as that is sensible and safe. Most of our work is with older people who need help with the ordinary things that have become harder, washing and dressing, medication, preparing meals, shopping and getting out of the house. We also support younger adults, whose circumstances and priorities are often very different from what people expect of home care, and we plan their support around what they actually want rather than handing out a standard package. We try to send the same carers to the same people week after week. It sounds like a small point of scheduling, but it is the difference between being looked after by somebody who knows you and being visited by a stranger with a list. It also means our team notice quickly when something has changed. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Ring us and we will tell you plainly what we can offer.

    • Home Care

Walfinch Eastbourne is a home care agency supporting people in their own homes across the town and the surrounding area. We visit older people and younger adults. Calls range from half an hour in the morning to help somebody wash, dress and get going, through to several visits a day covering medication, meals, safe movement around the house, shopping and appointments. For a good many people a single visit each morning is what makes the rest of the day possible. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet been given an overall rating. We would rather set that out here than have a family come across it later, and we would encourage anyone considering us to meet the manager and ask for references. Continuity is what we guard most carefully. A care worker who has visited the same person for months notices the change that a stranger would walk straight past, and that noticing often prevents a hospital admission. If you are arranging care at home locally, please get in touch and we will come out and talk it through.

    • Home Care

A1 Quality Homecare in Eastbourne provides support at home for people across the town and the surrounding part of East Sussex. We work with people living with dementia, people with a physical disability, people with sight or hearing loss, people managing mental health conditions or an eating disorder, and people working through difficulties with alcohol or drugs. Everything begins with a proper conversation in your own home about your routine, your preferences and where help would make the biggest difference. Visits can cover personal care and medication, cooking, shopping and housework, getting out to appointments, or company for somebody who sees very few people in a week. Because the range of needs we cover is wide, we think carefully about matching carers to the people they visit, since the right fit makes more difference than anything written in a plan. Once a good match is working we protect it, keeping the same small team going to the same person. Familiarity does more good than almost anything else we can offer, particularly for somebody living with dementia. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We treat it as the standard we are expected to hold rather than an achievement to display, and we keep asking the people we visit and their families whether we are doing what we promised. If you would like to talk about care at home in this area, please get in touch.

    • Home Care

A Caring Heart provides home care to older people and younger adults living in and around Eastbourne. We keep our remit narrow on purpose, because it lets us do the work properly rather than spreading ourselves thin. What we offer is help with washing and dressing, with medication, with preparing meals and seeing that they are actually eaten, with shopping and laundry, with getting out to appointments, and with the practical business of keeping a household going when that has become too much to manage alone. Visits are arranged around the day the person wants to have rather than the day that suits a rota. If somebody has always been up by half past six, we do not ask them to start waiting until nine. Where we cannot do something, we say so plainly rather than promising and then disappointing. We keep the same small group of carers going to the same people. Familiarity is what makes personal care bearable for the person receiving it, and a carer who knows somebody notices the missed meals or the new unsteadiness long before anybody else would. Please contact us if you would like to talk about support at home in Eastbourne, and we will come out and discuss it with you.

    • Home Care

We provide care at home in Eastbourne and the surrounding area. Those we visit include older adults, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and younger adults. Care at home works when the detail is right. Which arm goes into the sleeve first. Whether the tea comes before or after the tablets. Whether somebody wants conversation first thing or would rather not be spoken to until they have properly woken up. We write these things down, pass them between carers, and follow them, because getting them wrong quietly undermines everything else however well the tasks were completed. Where somebody has a sight or hearing impairment we agree at the start how we will announce ourselves and how we will communicate, and we keep to it. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission, and we prefer to state that clearly rather than write around it. Until then we would ask families to judge us on the things they can check: how we recruit and train, who we send, whether we arrive when we said we would, and what the people we already visit have to say about us.

    • Home Care

We provide care at home in Heathfield and the surrounding parts of East Sussex, supporting older adults, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss and younger adults. Working across a rural area means being honest about distance. A round that looks efficient on paper falls apart on a wet morning on country lanes, and it is the person waiting to be helped out of bed who pays for that. So we build schedules that survive an ordinary bad day and we would rather take on less than let somebody down. Isolation is a real part of what we deal with here. For several of the people we visit we are the only caller that day, so we plan enough time for the conversation rather than treating it as optional. Where sight or hearing has gone we agree how we will announce ourselves and every carer uses the same approach consistently. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission, and we prefer to state that plainly than leave the gap unexplained. Ask us how we recruit, train and check our carers, and meet them beforehand.

Arranging and funding home care in East Sussex

How a package tends to grow

Home care means support delivered where somebody already lives, arranged around the parts of the day that have become difficult. Most arrangements start with a single morning call to help with washing, dressing and medication, then expand as circumstances change. Longer visits, evening calls to help someone to bed, overnight cover, live in support and companionship time that gives a family carer a real break are all commonly available. Because East Sussex spreads from busy seafront towns to villages well inland, the first question to settle with any agency is whether its carers genuinely travel to the address.

Making use of the CQC record

All 107 agencies listed here are registered with the Care Quality Commission, and the ratings across East Sussex include Outstanding, Good and Requires Improvement together with agencies that are not yet rated. The rating narrows the field, but the report is what informs a decision. It records whether calls arrived when promised, how medicines were administered and documented, what training carers received before being sent out and how the registered manager responded when concerns were raised. Check the inspection date as well, because services change. An unrated agency has not been inspected rather than been found wanting, so ask how long it has traded and who registered it.

Questions to put to every agency

Ask how many different carers will attend over a fortnight and whether a small consistent team is kept for each person. Find out how you would be told when a visit is running late, who answers the telephone at weekends, and how complaints are recorded and resolved. Ask to see a blank care plan and check how quickly it can be rewritten after a hospital stay. Providers appearing here, such as Curant Care and Care To You Healthcare, will answer these differently, which is exactly why the same questions should go to all of them.

Choosing between home care agencies in East Sussex

The care needs assessment

Anyone who appears to need care and support can request a free care needs assessment, whatever their income or savings. A practitioner from East Sussex County Council will discuss washing, dressing, eating, taking medication, moving safely indoors and staying in contact with other people, then record which needs are eligible for support. Anyone providing regular unpaid help has a separate right to a carer's assessment, so ask for both together. The written record is valuable even where a family fully intends to pay privately.

Who pays for what

Where needs are eligible, a financial assessment considers income and capital. Care may then be funded in full, funded in part with a contribution from the person receiving it, or paid for privately. Families who qualify can request a direct payment and commission an agency of their own choosing rather than accept one arranged for them. Privately funded home care is normally charged by the hour, with higher rates at weekends, on bank holidays and for shorter calls, while live in support is quoted weekly. Ask each agency to confirm rates, travel charges, minimum visit length and notice period in writing before you commit.

Frequently asked questions about home care in East Sussex

How many home care agencies are there in East Sussex?

East Sussex has 107 CQC registered home care agencies: 3 Outstanding, 75 Good, 6 Requires improvement, 23 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

How much does home care cost in East Sussex?

Hourly care visits, South East: £28.00 to £36.96 an hour. Middle half of prices from 24 agencies. Median £32.92. Shown for South East because too few East Sussex agencies publish a rate. Published prices come from agencies that publish rates, so treat them as a guide. Ask the agency for its own price.

Which home care agencies in East Sussex were inspected most recently?

Witham Community Care Limited (11 September 2026), Country Carers Limited (7 September 2026) and The Office (1 September 2026) have the most recent CQC reports.

Which home care agencies cover East Sussex?

Care Assura lists 107 home care agencies serving East Sussex, all registered with the Care Quality Commission. They include providers such as Curant Care, Care To You Healthcare, Hand To Hand Care and Care at Home in Bexhill, Hastings and Rother. Each profile shows the current CQC rating where one has been awarded, together with the details needed to make contact. Confirming that an agency travels to your own address is the sensible first step.

What should I ask a home care agency in East Sussex before agreeing to visits?

Ask how many different carers will attend and whether a consistent team is kept for each person. Check how late calls are communicated, who is contactable outside office hours and how complaints are investigated. Ask to see a sample care plan and find out how quickly it can be revised when needs change. Request written confirmation of hourly rates, weekend and bank holiday charges, minimum visit lengths and the notice period.

What is the difference between a care home and a nursing home?

A residential care home provides accommodation together with personal care, so staff assist with washing, dressing, meals and medication in a shared setting. A nursing home offers the same support and additionally has registered nurses on duty, allowing it to meet clinical needs such as complex wound care or an unstable long term condition. Home care differs from both because the support comes to the person in their own house. Many families in East Sussex use home care for years before either kind of home is considered.

Can East Sussex County Council help pay for home care?

It may, and the route runs through two assessments. A care needs assessment establishes whether the person has eligible needs, and a financial assessment then examines income and capital. Care may be funded in full, funded in part with a personal contribution, or paid for privately depending on the outcome. Where funding is agreed, a direct payment lets the family choose and commission the agency themselves.

How do I arrange a care needs assessment in East Sussex?

Contact the adult social care team at East Sussex County Council and describe what has become difficult at home. The assessment is free and open to anyone who appears to need care and support, regardless of savings. A practitioner will discuss daily tasks, safety and wellbeing during a home visit or by telephone, then set out which needs are eligible. If you provide regular unpaid care, ask for a carer's assessment in the same conversation.

How soon should I start looking for home care in East Sussex?

Begin when everyday tasks start slipping rather than waiting for a fall or an admission to force the pace. Capacity varies between the coastal towns and the more rural parts of the county, and arranging an assessment, comparing agencies and agreeing a plan takes a few weeks in practice. A hospital discharge shortens that timetable considerably. A shortlist prepared in advance makes an urgent situation much easier to handle.
