    • Care Home

Lostock Grove Rest Home is in Leyland, Lancashire. We offer older people a settled, permanent home, and we also provide respite stays for those who need care for a short period or whose family carer needs a break. Most of our residents need help with washing and dressing, moving about safely, medication given properly and on time, and meals worth looking forward to, with somebody nearby through the night. A good number are living with dementia, and we let that shape the whole house rather than treating it as a separate wing. The day follows a recognisable pattern, familiar staff are around, people keep their own belongings and habits, and somebody who is anxious gets company and time rather than correction. Days here run at a gentle pace. There is breakfast when people are ready for it, food cooked on the premises, newspapers, cards, music, visits from the hairdresser and time in the garden when the weather allows. Nobody is obliged to join in with anything, and families visit as often as they like and are welcome at mealtimes. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Choosing a home is not a decision to make from a brochure, so please come and visit and talk to whoever is on duty. That will tell you more than anything we can write here.

    • Care Home

Hillcroft Residential Care Home is a care home in Ormskirk, Lancashire. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, we support people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. One of the things we would encourage any family to look at is what people here actually do between breakfast and bedtime. An activities board is easy to produce. A day with something in it that a particular person cares about takes more thought. We would rather somebody spent the afternoon doing one thing they have always enjoyed than sat through a group session arranged for the sake of having one. So we ask people what they used to do, what they still want to do and what they would rather be left out of, and we plan around that. Some residents want company most of the day, others want their own room and a quiet hour with the radio, and neither is treated as a problem. For those living with dementia, we work from the person's history rather than their diagnosis. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit if you are considering care locally, and come at an ordinary time of day.

Clover House is a care home in Morecambe. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, including adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and people managing a mental health condition. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Stability is the main thing we try to offer. A number of the people who come here have moved between placements more often than anyone should, and each move undoes work that took months to build. So we plan on the basis that people are staying, we do not treat a difficult week as grounds for reconsidering, and we are careful not to promise what we cannot sustain. Living here is meant to be ordinary. People have their own rooms and routines, come and go, use the town and make their own decisions, including some we might not have chosen for them. Where somebody is working towards more independence, we put real effort behind it. Consistency counts for more than enthusiasm with most of the people we support. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are considering a placement here, please visit and ask us whatever matters to you.

    • Care Home

Our home in Preston provides residential care for older people and for younger adults, including people with learning disabilities, autistic people, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. We also offer respite stays. Supporting people with such different needs under one roof only works if nobody is treated as a type. We take each person as they come, learn how they want their day to go, and build support around that. Some residents want a lot of company and occupation. Others want quiet and predictability. We make room for both. The building is arranged so that people with reduced mobility or restricted sight can get about safely and independently, and our staff are trained in moving and handling, in supporting people who communicate differently, and in mental health awareness. Where someone uses signing, pictures or objects to communicate, we learn their way of doing it. We involve families and advocates as much as each person wants, hold regular residents meetings and act on what is raised. If something is not working, we would far rather be told early. Preston is where most of our residents have their roots, and we keep links with family, friends, local groups and places of worship going. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and look round and talk to the people who live here.

Redlands Care Home is in Lytham St Annes. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions and people dealing with difficulties around alcohol or drugs, and we offer respite stays. The people who come to us have arrived by very different routes, and we have learned not to treat anybody as a type. Some residents are here because age has made managing at home unsafe. Others are here because their mental health or a long struggle with alcohol has made independent living difficult for now. What both groups need from us is the same, which is somewhere settled, staff who do not judge them, and a say in how their own day runs. We are consistent and we are patient, and we work alongside community mental health teams, GPs and recovery services rather than in parallel with them. Residents take part in running the house, hold regular meetings and are listened to when they raise something. For residents living with dementia we keep the day predictable and calm and we learn what reassures a particular person. Meals are cooked here and people have a say in what appears. Visitors are welcome through the day, and the coast is close enough to be part of ordinary life. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. • Care Home

The Bellingham Residential Care Home is in Lytham St Annes. We provide residential care for older people together with respite stays for those who need a short break. We do one thing and we try to do it well. There is no nursing unit here and no specialist wing. What we offer is a comfortable house near the coast where older people are looked after properly, treated as adults and left in charge of their own days as far as they are able. That starts with asking. When somebody moves in we want to know their history, their preferences, their worries and their routines, and we write it down so that every member of staff knows it rather than only whoever carried out the assessment. It continues with small things done reliably. Meals people actually want, help offered discreetly, laundry back where it belongs, a hairdresser when it is wanted, the garden and the front used when the weather allows. Families are part of it. Visitors come and go through the day, can stay for a meal, and are kept properly informed rather than telephoned only when something has gone wrong. Lytham and the coast are home for most of our residents, and we support people to keep up with the friends, clubs and churches they have always had. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the home, ideally without arranging it first.

Mill Lodge Residential Care Home is in Blackburn. We provide care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss, and we offer respite stays. We try to run a household rather than a facility. Residents bring their own furniture and photographs, keep the routines they have always had and decide for themselves how much they want to be part of what is going on. Nobody is walked to an activity they have not chosen. When somebody moves in we take real time over their history and preferences and we write it down so that every member of staff knows it, because care that changes with whoever is on shift is not care we would accept for our own families. Dementia support rests on familiarity and pace. We keep staffing as consistent as we can, avoid unnecessary change and work out what settles a particular resident. Supporting mental health needs means patience and working alongside community teams. Where sight or hearing is failing we pay attention to lighting, contrast, signage and sound, and we check that glasses and hearing aids are being used and looked after. Meals are cooked on the premises and residents have a genuine say in the menu. Visitors are welcome through the day. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Beech Grove Care Home is in Clitheroe. We provide residential care for older people and offer respite stays alongside permanent places. We keep things straightforward. People usually come to us because managing at home had become hard work, and what they want back is some ease. Meals they do not have to plan or cook. Help when washing and dressing has become a struggle. Somebody who notices when they are not themselves. Company when they want it and quiet when they do not. Residents carry on running their own lives as far as they are able, choosing their routines, arranging their rooms and deciding how much of the day to spend downstairs. We encourage people to bring their own furniture and pictures, because a room that looks like yours makes settling in far easier than one that looks like anybody's. The first few weeks matter a great deal and we do not rush them. We learn routines rather than imposing them, and we ask families to tell us about the person rather than only about their needs. Being in the Ribble Valley, the countryside is on the doorstep and getting out is part of the ordinary week. Respite stays suit family carers needing a proper break and people recovering after illness or hospital. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. 85 Park Road is a residential home in Accrington, Lancashire. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including people who are blind, partially sighted, deaf or hard of hearing. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. We will put our rating up front. The Care Quality Commission last rated us requires improvement overall. We accept the finding rather than arguing with it. An inspection records what was there on the day, and the work of putting it right belongs to us. There is an action plan, the people who commission placements here know where we have reached with it, and any family considering us is welcome to go through the detail with the manager rather than being handed a reassuring sentence. The work itself asks for patience and precision. Where a learning disability sits alongside sight or hearing loss, communication cannot be left to chance. We agree with each person how they prefer to be approached and informed, we say what we are about to do before we do it, and we check we have been understood rather than assuming. Support plans are written so the person has a chance of reading them. Come and visit, ask the hard questions, and talk to the people who live here as well as to us.

    • Care Home

Dixons Farm is a residential care home near Preston supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays. What we try to provide is a settled household rather than a service with bedrooms attached. People choose how their rooms look, what they eat, when they get up and how much of the day they want to spend in company. Those choices are not an extra. They are most of what makes somewhere liveable. Support is planned around what each person wants to be able to do rather than only around risk. For some that is cooking, shopping and handling money. For others it is getting to college or work, keeping up friendships and family contact, or simply having a predictable environment where sensory needs are understood rather than worked around. Where someone needs a great deal of help, we still look hard for the parts they can manage, because independence disappears quietly unless somebody is protecting it. Communication gets real attention here. We learn how each person tells us what they want, including those who use little or no speech, and we adjust to them rather than the reverse. Being a little outside Preston gives us space and quiet, which suits a lot of the people we support, and we make good use of the town and surrounding area too. • Care Home

Holywell Home is a residential care home in Morecambe. We support older people and also adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and younger adults, and we offer respite stays. Having people of different ages and needs under one roof suits us, and it works because we do not run the home to a single pattern. Older residents often enjoy the company and a bit of life about the place, and younger residents benefit from a household rather than an institution. The trick is not assuming everyone wants the same things. Meals, routines, outings and how much say a person wants over their own decisions are worked out individually. For residents with a learning disability or who are autistic, we think about the environment itself as part of the support. Noise, lighting, how predictable the day is and whether there is somewhere quiet to retreat to all affect how a day turns out. We also learn how each person communicates, including those who use little or no speech. Being in Morecambe, the bay and the seafront are close, and a change of scene is easy to arrange. Trips out are part of the ordinary week. Respite stays give families a break and give the person staying somewhere settled to come to. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit Holywell and ask us whatever you need to.

    • Care Home

Bannister Farm Cottage in Leyland is a small residential home supporting adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and people with mental health needs, most of them younger adults. We also offer respite stays. The house is deliberately small, because for many of the people we support a calm, predictable household does more good than anything else we could arrange. People live here for years, so we treat the place as their home and ourselves as part of it. They decide how their rooms look, have a real say in what is bought and cooked, and shape the week around what they want to do. Support with personal care, medication, health appointments, money and getting about is given exactly as each person has agreed and recorded in enough detail that a colleague new to a shift can get a morning right without being told. For anybody who finds change unsettling, that consistency is the foundation of everything else, and we do not vary routines for our own convenience. Communication is where the real work lies. Not everybody here uses speech, and understanding how a person shows a preference, a worry or a refusal is what makes choice genuine. We learn each person's way, write it down and check what we think we have understood. We encourage life beyond the front door. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.

    • Care Home

Briercliffe Lodge is a residential care home in Barnoldswick for older people who need help with daily living, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. What we offer is fairly simple and we try to do it well. Help with washing, dressing and getting about, given at the person's own pace and in a way that protects their dignity. Medication managed properly. Three meals a day that people are glad to sit down to, cooked here, with real choice at every one. Warm, clean rooms that people make their own with their own furniture and photographs. Company when it is wanted and quiet when it is not. Being a small house, we know everybody who lives here properly, not as a set of care needs but as people with histories, tastes and opinions. That is what lets us notice early when somebody is off colour or out of sorts. We act on it quickly, involve the surgery and the district nurses, and tell families what is happening rather than waiting to be asked. Respite stays are a genuine part of what we do, whether to give a relative a holiday, to help somebody find their feet after a spell in hospital, or to let a person try us out before deciding anything permanent. Nobody should feel pushed. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated the home good overall, and anyone thinking about a move is welcome to visit.

    • Care Home

Jasmine Court is a residential care home in Chorley, Lancashire. We provide a home for older people, including those living with dementia and people with a physical disability, and we also support some younger adults and offer respite stays for shorter periods of care. We want this to feel like somewhere people live rather than somewhere people have been placed. Residents bring their own furniture and photographs, keep their own routines and decide how the day runs. Some are up early and want company and conversation straight away. Others want their own room, a newspaper and a quiet afternoon. Neither needs explaining to us, and we plan around the person rather than around what suits a rota. Supporting people living with dementia is a large part of what we do, and steadiness is what helps most. Familiar faces, routines that change only when there is a reason, patience when words are hard to find, and a real effort to understand what somebody means rather than what they managed to say. Families are closely involved because they often hold the history that makes sense of the present, and we keep in touch openly rather than only when something has gone wrong. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. It reflects reliable everyday practice, which is what most families are genuinely looking for. If you are considering a care home in Chorley for someone close to you, you are welcome to visit, look round properly and ask us whatever you need to know.

    • Care Home

Alexandra Court is a residential care home in Thornton Cleveleys, supporting older people from the town and the surrounding part of Lancashire. We are a residential home and not a clinical setting, which we say plainly because people are entitled to know what they are choosing. What we offer is a household where the practical difficulties of later life have been taken off somebody's shoulders. Help with washing and dressing, given without fuss and in private. Medication managed properly. Meals cooked here and served at a table. Somebody awake through the night. Company when it is wanted and peace when it is not. Most people move in after a hard stretch, so the first weeks are taken slowly. We learn how a person likes their day arranged before we start arranging anything, and we expect that somebody may be grieving for their own home while settling into a room here. Routines matter a great deal. If a person has had a bath at night for fifty years, we are not going to switch them to a morning shower because it suits a rota. Being by the coast, we have residents who have lived locally all their lives, and keeping those threads intact matters: the same newspaper, the same friends, visitors who can walk round. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. Come and have a cup of tea and ask the residents what they make of the place.

    • Care Home

Derby Lodge is a residential care home in Preston, Lancashire, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism and people with a physical disability, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays. This is somebody's home before it is anything else, and we try hard to run it that way. People have their own rooms, their own routines and a real say in how their days go. Support here is about making ordinary things possible rather than doing them for people. Cooking a meal you actually want. Doing your own shopping. Managing money and appointments. Getting to a club, a course or a job. Keeping in touch with family and friends. We pay attention to that distinction, because independence is quietly worn away by help that arrives too quickly. Communication matters a great deal to us. Not everybody here uses many words, and understanding somebody properly takes time, attention and a willingness to be corrected rather than assumptions. Plans are written with the person, reviewed honestly and changed when they stop fitting. We also work alongside families and with social work and health colleagues so that support is joined up. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep examining our practice around choice and independence, where any provider can drift. If you are considering a place or a respite stay with us, please come and visit and meet the people who live here.

    • Care Home

Clarence House is a residential care home in Lytham St Annes, supporting older people and younger adults from across Lancashire. We work with people living with dementia, people who have mental health needs and people with a physical disability. We are a house where people live rather than a unit where they have been placed, and we try to keep that distinction visible in how the place runs. People have their own rooms and their own belongings. They are asked rather than told. Getting up at half past nine is a preference and not a problem. For any of that to hold, the practical side has to be dependable, so we are careful about personal care, medication, meals cooked in our own kitchen and staff awake and available overnight. For residents with a physical disability we make sure the equipment and the help are there to get out of a room and about the house, because mobility lost to staff convenience is the easiest loss to prevent and the hardest to undo. Dementia runs through much of our work and we have long since stopped correcting people. Consistent staff, a calm house and enough of a person's history to find the thread of a conversation do far more. For residents with mental health needs we work patiently and alongside the professionals already involved. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take it as a floor. Visit at a busy time of day and ask the people who live here.

Arranging and funding a care home place in Lancashire

Distance does much of the filtering

Distance does more of the work than families expect across an area this size, and it is worth applying before any other criterion. A home that relatives can reach in twenty minutes will be visited far more often than one an hour away, and frequent visitors are among the strongest protections a resident has. Once the geography is settled, the field usually shrinks to something that can be studied properly. Only then does it make sense to weigh ratings, size and specialism against one another.

What the inspection report adds to the rating

Ratings across the 321 homes listed here run from Outstanding down to Inadequate, with some homes not yet rated at all, so the headline word genuinely distinguishes them. It should still be treated as a starting point. The report behind it scores safety, effectiveness, caring, responsiveness and leadership separately, and a home can perform strongly in one of those and poorly in another. The date matters too, because a home that has changed owner or manager since the last inspection may bear little resemblance to the report.

Seeing a home for yourself

No report replaces a visit. Go at a busy hour, ideally around a meal, and watch how staff speak with residents rather than with visitors. Ask how long the manager has been in post, what turnover among care staff has looked like, and what happens when someone becomes unwell overnight. Homes such as Altham Care Home, Henley House and Clayton Brook House each carry a full profile here with their inspection history attached.

Choosing between care homes in Lancashire

The care needs assessment

An assessment of need is the formal way in, and anyone who appears to need care may request one whatever their savings. It looks at washing, dressing, eating, mobility, medication and how safely someone manages alone, then sets out in writing what care is required. Relatives can contribute their own account, which frequently captures what a single visit would miss. Whoever has been providing most of the support is entitled to a separate carer's assessment.

Where the council comes in

A financial assessment then decides who pays what. Lancashire County Council is responsible for both assessments and for arranging funded placements where someone qualifies, taking income, savings and property into account. Even families who will plainly fund a placement themselves are entitled to an assessment and to advice, and having one on record is valuable if capital falls in later years and council support becomes necessary.

What the weekly fee covers

Fees are quoted by the week and differ considerably between homes, so ask each one exactly what the figure includes. Hairdressing, chiropody, outings and certain therapies are commonly charged on top. Where a family selects a home costing more than the council will fund, a third party contribution covers the gap, and it should be tested for affordability over several years rather than the first alone.

Lancashire has 321 CQC registered care homes: 9 Outstanding, 242 Good, 46 Requires improvement, 1 Inadequate, 23 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

How much does a care home cost in Lancashire?

North West figure, because too few Lancashire homes publish this price. 20 homes. Median £1,409. Published prices are often starting prices, and come from homes that publish fees, so treat them as a guide. Ask the home for its own price.

Which care homes in Lancashire were inspected most recently?

Which providers offer residential care in Lancashire?

321 residential care homes currently match this search in Lancashire, and every one of them appears on this page with its own profile. The listing spans independent homes, small group providers and specialist services, including names such as Altham Care Home, Belvedere, Henley House, Oswald House and Rough Lee Home. Ratings run the full range, so the profiles reward comparison rather than assumption. Filtering by area first is usually the most practical way through a list of this size.

What is the difference between a care home and a nursing home?

A residential care home provides accommodation together with personal care, covering help with washing, dressing, meals, medication prompts and daily routine. A nursing home offers the same support and additionally employs registered nurses on site, so it can meet clinical needs such as complex wound care or tube feeding. A home may only admit residents whose needs match its registration, which is why the distinction matters from the outset. All the providers on this page are registered as residential care homes.

What should we ask when visiting a care home in Lancashire?

Ask how many care staff are on duty by day and overnight, how long the manager has been in the role and what the home does when a resident becomes unwell. Ask to see a sample care plan, then find out how often plans are reviewed and how relatives are told about changes. Fees deserve equally direct questions about what is included, what is billed separately and how increases are announced. Judge the answers alongside what you observe, particularly whether residents seem settled and occupied.

How do we arrange a care needs assessment in Lancashire?

Contact the adult social care team at Lancashire County Council and ask for an assessment of need. It is free and open to anyone who appears to require care, whatever their income or savings might be. A social care worker will consider daily tasks, mobility, medication and safety, normally during a visit at home, and family members can join in and add their own observations. The written outcome then guides which of the care homes in Lancashire would be able to meet those needs.

Can Lancashire County Council fund a care home placement?

It can, but only once a care needs assessment and a financial assessment have both been completed. The needs assessment must confirm that residential care is the right form of support, while the financial assessment examines income, savings and property to establish the personal contribution. Where funding is agreed, the council normally pays up to a set weekly rate, so a family choosing a more expensive home may need to find a third party contribution. Beginning both assessments early keeps the decision unhurried.

How far ahead should a family start looking?

Sooner than most people plan for, because assessments, financial checks and waiting lists all take time. A few months of lead time allows for repeat visits, a careful reading of inspection reports and a considered second opinion on any home under serious thought. When a move follows a hospital stay the decision may need making within days, which is exactly when a prepared shortlist earns its keep. Even a rough list of three or four homes is far better than starting cold.
