About Short Break Services
We are a short break home in Preston for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. People come to us for planned stays rather than to live permanently, and that shapes everything about how we work. Because our stays are short we have to be good at beginnings. We find out in advance how a person communicates, what their routine is, what they eat, what unsettles them and what settles them again, because a few days gives us no time to learn somebody slowly and guesswork is unfair on everybody. Predictability matters enormously here. Knowing exactly what is happening, who will be on shift and when they are going home is often what makes a stay manageable rather than frightening. So we plan ahead, we explain everything in advance, and we do not rearrange things for our own convenience. The honest test of a short break home is whether people come back willingly. If somebody returns and is pleased to be here, we have done the job, and if they are not we want to know why. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking guests and their families what would make the next stay better.
