- Care Home
The Grange is a residential home in Chorley. We care for older people and for younger adults, including people living with dementia and people managing mental health conditions, and we offer respite stays for those who need somewhere for a short period. Our view of residential care is fairly simple. People move in because living alone has stopped working, not because they have stopped being themselves. So we spend time learning about the person who arrives: the work they did, the people who matter to them, what they like doing, what they cannot stand, how they take their tea. Those details are what turn a room into somewhere to live. For people living with dementia, we keep the environment calm and predictable and we take our lead from the person in front of us rather than correcting them. For people with mental health needs, we work closely with community teams and we recognise that good days and hard days both need a steady response. There is company here for those who want it and quiet for those who do not. Families are welcome at any reasonable hour and we would rather they came often and informally. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you would like to look round, come and see the place on an ordinary day and judge it as it really is.

- Care Home
Highgrove House is a residential care home in Chorley, caring for older people who can no longer manage safely at home. We aim for the feel of a household rather than an institution, with people keeping their own routines, their own belongings and a genuine say in how their day goes. We support people living with dementia, and that work depends on continuity above all. Knowing what somebody's day used to look like, keeping as much of it as we can and understanding what sits behind distress rather than simply managing it is what makes the difference between a settled day and a difficult one. Respite stays are available too, whether somebody needs care for a short period after illness or a family carer needs a proper break. We plan short stays with the same attention as a permanent move, so nobody arrives feeling temporary. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take that as the standard to hold rather than an achievement to rest on. The better test is the everyday evidence, whether people are up and occupied, whether mealtimes are sociable and whether relatives feel able to raise a concern early. Anyone considering Highgrove House is welcome to visit and see for themselves.

- Care Home
Here at Coniston House Care Home, we provide residential and dementia care for older people in the heart of Chorley, Lancashire. We also offer respite care for those who need a short term stay, whether that is to recover after a hospital visit or to give a family carer some well earned rest. We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we do not take that lightly. From the moment someone walks through our doors, we want them to feel at ease. Our team takes time to get to know each person properly, understanding their routines, their preferences and the things that matter most to them, so that the care we provide feels personal rather than routine. For those living with dementia, we work hard to create an environment that feels calm, familiar and safe. We pay close attention to the little things, because we understand how much they can mean to someone whose world has become more confusing. Consistency and familiarity are at the heart of how we support our residents with dementia. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as Good, which we are proud of, though we always look at where we can do better. That rating reflects the honest effort our team puts in every day, and we see it as encouragement to keep going rather than a reason to stand still. Whether someone is joining us for a short respite stay or making Coniston House their long term home, we want them and their loved ones to feel genuinely welcome here. Chorley is our community too, and being a trusted part of it means a great deal to us. We would always encourage families to come and visit so they can see for themselves what life here is like.

Jasmine Court is a residential care home in Chorley, Lancashire. We provide a home for older people, including those living with dementia and people with a physical disability, and we also support some younger adults and offer respite stays for shorter periods of care. We want this to feel like somewhere people live rather than somewhere people have been placed. Residents bring their own furniture and photographs, keep their own routines and decide how the day runs. Some are up early and want company and conversation straight away. Others want their own room, a newspaper and a quiet afternoon. Neither needs explaining to us, and we plan around the person rather than around what suits a rota. Supporting people living with dementia is a large part of what we do, and steadiness is what helps most. Familiar faces, routines that change only when there is a reason, patience when words are hard to find, and a real effort to understand what somebody means rather than what they managed to say. Families are closely involved because they often hold the history that makes sense of the present, and we keep in touch openly rather than only when something has gone wrong. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. It reflects reliable everyday practice, which is what most families are genuinely looking for. If you are considering a care home in Chorley for someone close to you, you are welcome to visit, look round properly and ask us whatever you need to know.

Astley View is a residential care home in Chorley, Lancashire. We care for older people, including those living with dementia, those with physical disabilities and those living with sight or hearing loss, and we welcome people for short respite stays as well as for the longer term. We are a home rather than an institution, and we work hard to keep it that way. Residents choose when to get up, where to sit, what to eat and how to spend the day. Some like the company of the lounge and the noise of a game going on, others prefer their own room with the radio and a view of the garden. Neither preference is a problem, and neither needs justifying to us. Supporting someone with dementia takes patience and consistency, so we keep surroundings familiar, signage clear and routines steady, and we make sure that the people on shift know each resident's history well enough to make sense of what they are saying. For residents with reduced sight or hearing, small adjustments make a large difference, and we build those into daily life rather than treating them as extras. Families are part of the picture here. We would far rather hear from you early if something feels wrong than have you worry about it quietly. If you are considering a move for yourself or a relative, please come and see the place for yourself, meet the team and take your time deciding.

Aarondale Care Home provides residential care in Chorley for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people with mental health needs and people with physical disabilities. We also take planned respite stays. Most of what makes a care home work is undramatic and daily. Getting up when you want to, food you actually want to eat, a familiar face on shift, and somebody noticing when you are quieter than usual. That is where we concentrate our effort. For residents living with dementia, familiarity and a calm unhurried approach prevent far more distress than they ever cost. We would rather be plain about our inspection position than leave families to discover it elsewhere. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was requires improvement. We are not going to argue with the findings. They described genuine shortfalls, and our manager and staff team have been working through them, with tighter medicines practice, clearer record keeping, more training and supervision, and regular internal checks so that problems surface quickly rather than quietly. There is more to do and we will not pretend otherwise. If you are thinking about Aarondale for somebody you love, please come and see us, ask what has actually changed since the inspection, and speak to residents and relatives while you are here.

- Care Home
Springfield Care Home is a residential home in Chorley, Lancashire, looking after older people who need support with everyday living. Much of our work is with residents living with dementia and with people whose mobility, sight or hearing has changed. We shape the house and the routine around that, with calm surroundings, clear routes through the building, good lighting and staff who take their time. Equipment and adaptations are used where they genuinely help rather than as a matter of routine. Residents bring their own belongings, keep their own habits, choose how they spend the day and see visitors when they like. Meals are planned around what people actually enjoy, and there is somewhere quiet for anyone who would rather be out of the company. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would sooner say so ourselves than leave you to discover it. We know which areas were identified, we have an improvement plan in place and we are working through it with our staff team. Ask us about it directly when you visit and we will give you a straight answer. The only real way to judge a home is to walk through it. Please come at a time that suits you, speak to residents and their families, and see how the place feels.

We are Willowdale, a residential care home in Chorley. We support adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with dementia, and people with a physical disability or a visual or hearing impairment. The people who live here have very different needs, so we plan around the individual rather than running one routine for everybody. Some people want a full and busy day out in the community. Others want a quiet, predictable rhythm at home with a familiar face nearby. Both are entirely reasonable ways to live, and our job is to make either of them work well. We put a lot of weight on knowing people properly. That means understanding how somebody communicates, what unsettles them, what they enjoy and what their life was like before they came to us. New staff spend time learning this from the people who know it best, including families, before they are expected to work alone. Support plans are written with the person, not about them, and they get reviewed when something changes rather than only at set intervals. We work closely with social workers, GPs, community teams and families. We offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Our most recent CQC overall rating is good. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a visit.

Hollydale is a residential care home in Chorley, Lancashire, supporting adults living with dementia, a learning disability or autism, a physical disability, or a visual or hearing impairment. We also offer respite stays. With that range of needs in one house, we start with the person rather than the label. We take time to learn how someone communicates, what they can do for themselves, what they find hard and what they enjoy, and we shape support around that instead of around a routine. Help with personal care, mobility, medication and meals is given in a way that protects dignity and keeps people in charge of their own decisions as far as possible. Small adjustments carry a lot of weight here. Good lighting, clear and consistent layouts, familiar objects, steady routines and unhurried explanation help people with sensory loss or dementia feel secure, and they are part of how the house runs rather than something added on. Where someone becomes distressed, we look for the reason rather than simply settling it. Residents have their own rooms and belongings and a real say in how the week goes, and we treat time with family, friends and local groups as part of the point rather than an extra. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. Visitors are welcome at Hollydale.

Rowandale is a residential care home in Chorley supporting adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss, and we also care for people living with dementia. Our starting point is always the individual. We spend time learning how somebody communicates, what they enjoy, what unsettles them and what helps them settle again, and we make sure the whole team understands those things in the same way. Consistency is what allows a person to relax, and it is also what lets us notice early when something is not right. The day here belongs to the people who live in the house. People get up when they are ready, spend their time on things that genuinely interest them and keep as much charge of their own routine as they want. Where somebody is working towards more independence, we look for the practical steps and go at their pace. Respite stays are available as well, for people who need support for a short period and for families who need a break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. What tells us more is whether people here look relaxed. Visitors are always welcome.

- Care Home
Mapledale is a residential care home in Chorley, Lancashire, providing a home for a varied group of people: older adults, younger adults, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people with loss of sight or hearing, and people living with mental health conditions. That breadth works because we build support around the individual rather than around a label. One person may need help with almost every part of the day and another very little, and both live here on the same footing. We ask each person what a good day looks like for them, write it down in a form that makes sense to them, and change it when they tell us to. Communication gets particular attention, using speech, signing, symbols or simply the understanding that comes from knowing somebody well. For people with sensory loss we adapt how rooms are lit and how we approach and announce ourselves. People here are supported to get out to work, college, clubs and family, and to be as involved in running the house as they want. Respite stays are available. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Chorley
With dementia, the decision rests less on the building than on how the people inside it behave when someone is frightened, confused or trying to leave. Twelve homes are listed here, and the difference between them is mostly a matter of staffing, training and patience rather than decor.
What the registration allows
Every provider here is registered for residential care, meaning accommodation with personal care rather than nursing on site. Where dementia is accompanied by clinical needs requiring a qualified nurse on the premises, a nursing registered home is the better starting point. Ask each home directly what stage of dementia it can support and what would prompt it to say it could no longer meet someone's needs, because a second move is hard on everybody.
Reading the reports with dementia in mind
Eight of these homes are rated Good, three have been told they require improvement, and one is yet to be rated. Open the full report rather than stopping at the summary word. Each inspection answers five questions, covering whether a home is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led, and for dementia the caring and responsive sections repay the closest attention. Where a home requires improvement, the report sets out exactly what the concerns were and when they were found.
What to watch for on a visit
Go late in the afternoon if you can, since restlessness tends to show then rather than mid morning. Watch how staff answer a question that has already been asked three times, whether they come down to eye level, and whether they redirect instead of correcting. Notice whether corridors are easy to follow, whether bedroom doors are recognisable, and whether residents can move about without being shadowed. Homes such as Coniston House Care Home, Highgrove House and Jasmine Court appear here alongside others, and this is the kind of detail a rating cannot carry.
Choosing between dementia care homes in Chorley
Because dementia needs change, the financial picture is harder to fix than it is for a straightforward residential placement. Understanding the sequence of assessments early gives a family room to plan rather than react.
Requesting a care needs assessment
Any adult who appears to need care and support can ask for a care needs assessment, and a relative providing that care can request a separate carer's assessment in their own right. Both are arranged through Lancashire County Council adult social care, the authority responsible for assessing need and for arranging funded support where someone qualifies. Ask that the assessment records orientation, communication and risk alongside help with washing, dressing and meals, since those are what determine whether a dementia specialist placement is needed.
Who contributes, and how much
Where eligible needs are identified, a financial assessment considers income and capital. Savings above the upper threshold mean the placement is funded privately; below it, the authority contributes and the resident pays an assessed share out of income. Where someone no longer has capacity to manage their own money, ask the team about the arrangements that allow a relative to act on their behalf, because this is often the point at which families get stuck.
What the weekly fee covers
Residential fees are charged weekly and normally take in the room, all meals, laundry and personal care. Rates differ between homes in Chorley, and some charge more where a resident needs closer supervision. Ask each shortlisted home for a written breakdown, and ask what would happen to the fee, and to the placement itself, if needs increased significantly.
Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Chorley
How many dementia care homes are there in Chorley?
Chorley has 12 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 17 CQC registered care homes in Chorley: 8 Good, 3 Requires improvement, 1 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
Which dementia care homes in Chorley were inspected most recently?
Grove House Home for Older People (2 October 2025), Springfield Care Home (11 October 2023) and Highgrove House (16 June 2023) have the most recent CQC reports.
Which providers in Chorley offer dementia care?
Twelve residential care homes in Chorley are listed on this page, and each holds registration with the Care Quality Commission. They include Coniston House Care Home, The Grange, Highgrove House and Jasmine Court, alongside further homes across the area. What each is able to support varies, so ask directly about the stage of dementia a home can manage. Each profile sets out the registration details and the most recent inspection outcome.
What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?
A dementia care home is registered to provide accommodation with personal care, covering help with washing, dressing, meals, medication and daily support from staff trained in dementia care. A dementia nursing home holds a further registration requiring a qualified nurse on duty, so it can also manage clinical needs such as complex wound care or feeding tubes. Every provider listed on this page is registered for residential care rather than nursing. If nursing input is needed on site, the search should be widened to nursing registered homes.
What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Chorley?
Ask what dementia training staff receive and how often it is refreshed, and ask how they respond when a resident becomes distressed or tries to leave. Check how many staff are on duty in the late afternoon and overnight, and how consistently the same carers work with the same residents. Where a home has been told it requires improvement, ask what has changed since the inspection and ask to see the evidence. Finally, ask what would prompt the home to say it could no longer meet someone's needs.
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Chorley?
Contact the adult social care team at Lancashire County Council and ask for a care needs assessment, which any adult who appears to need care and support is entitled to request. The request can come from the person themselves, or from a relative, GP or memory clinic acting on their behalf. Where dementia is involved, ask that the assessment covers orientation, communication and risk as well as help with daily tasks. A financial assessment then follows to establish who pays what.
Can Lancashire County Council fund a dementia care home placement?
It can, where the care needs assessment identifies eligible needs and the financial assessment shows that income and capital fall below the relevant thresholds. Lancashire County Council is the authority responsible for carrying out both assessments and for arranging any funded support that follows. Where savings sit above the upper threshold the placement is funded privately, although the team can still explain the options available. Where someone lacks capacity to manage their finances, ask about the arrangements that allow a relative to act for them.
How far ahead should I start looking for a dementia care home in Chorley?
Beginning before a move becomes urgent matters more with dementia than almost anywhere else, because a calm decision is far easier on the person moving. Visiting several homes across a few months gives a much clearer sense of how each handles memory loss day to day. Both the needs assessment and the financial assessment take weeks rather than days to complete. Urgent placements can be arranged after a hospital admission, though the choice available is considerably narrower.
