    • Care Home

Bank Hall Care Centre is a residential care home in Burnley supporting older people, including many living with dementia, and adults with a learning disability or autism. We support younger adults as well as older residents, and we offer respite stays. A home with that mix works because we plan around individuals rather than groups. We want to know how someone's day should run, what they can do for themselves, what they want help with and what they would rather we left alone. Everyone here has their own room, their own belongings and a real say in how the house is run. Our dementia care rests on familiarity and patience. We keep routines steady, the building calm and the staffing as consistent as we can, and we follow the person rather than correcting them. When a resident is distressed we treat it as something with a cause and go looking for it, and relatives are usually the best guide to what has always helped. For residents with a learning disability or autism, communication comes first. We learn how each person tells us what they need, in words or otherwise, we keep routines predictable and we give proper notice before anything changes. Respite guests are part of the household while they are with us. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. If you would like to visit, please get in touch and we will arrange it.

    • Care Home

Here at Acorn Heights Care Home, we are proud to be a trusted part of the Burnley community, offering a safe, comfortable and genuinely homely environment for the people who come to live and stay with us. We support a wide range of individuals, including older adults, people living with dementia, those with learning disabilities or autism, adults experiencing mental health challenges, and younger adults who need tailored care and support. We also offer respite care for those who need a short break or some additional help during a difficult period. Whatever brings someone to us, we take the time to get to know them properly, understanding what matters to them and how they like to live their life. Our most recent Care Quality Commission rating is Good, and we work hard every day to maintain and build on that standard. For us, that rating reflects something real, namely the relationships we have built with residents and their families, the consistency of our team, and the attention we give to the small details that make a big difference to everyday life. We believe that good care starts with genuine respect. Every person who comes through our doors has their own story, their own preferences and their own way of doing things, and we make it our business to honour that. Whether someone has been with us for years or has just arrived, they deserve to feel at home. Families often tell us that what they value most is knowing their loved one is truly looked after, not just physically, but emotionally too. That means a great deal to us. If you would like to find out more about Acorn Heights or come and have a look around, we would be very happy to hear from you.

    • Care Home

Healey Lodge is a residential care home in Burnley. We support older people, including those living with dementia, and we also support younger adults and people who have a learning disability or who are autistic. Day to day, the job is help with washing and dressing, medication, meals, laundry and company, given at the pace that suits the person rather than the pace that suits a rota. We try to keep the house feeling domestic. People get up when they are ready, eat what they like and spend the day as they choose. We should be straightforward with you. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement, and we are working through what was identified, with changes to the way we record care, supervise staff and check that plans are being followed properly. We would rather set that out plainly and let you judge for yourself, and we are happy to talk in detail about what has changed. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places, whether for a planned break for a family carer or for someone needing support for a few weeks after illness. Families around Burnley and east Lancashire are welcome to visit. Please call and we will arrange a time.

    • Care Home

We are Abiden, a residential care home in Burnley. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people managing a mental health condition, and people with a physical disability. What we provide is residential care rather than nursing care, and we say so plainly to families at the outset so that nobody moves somewhere unable to meet their needs. Within it, we help with washing, dressing and moving about safely, support people with medication, provide proper meals and make sure nobody spends their days alone unless that is what they prefer. The home runs at the pace of its residents. Nobody is woken to suit a rota, mealtimes bend around the person, and how the day is spent is a matter for the individual. For people living with dementia, we work patiently and with their history in view. Familiar faces, an unhurried pace and a routine that makes sense to the person do more good than any activity programme. Where somebody is managing a mental health condition, we work steadily and keep in contact with community teams and GPs. Our staff know residents well enough to notice when somebody is quieter or eating less than usual, and we ring families early rather than waiting. Visitors are welcome whenever they want to come. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Please get in touch to look round.

    • Care Home

Here at Towneley House, we provide residential and dementia care for older adults, younger adults, and those who need a short break through respite care, right in the heart of Burnley, Lancashire. We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we do not take that lightly. Our aim is straightforward: to make sure every person who lives with us feels genuinely at home, comfortable in their surroundings, and supported in the ways that matter most to them. We take time to understand each person as an individual, learning about their routines, their preferences, and what brings them comfort and enjoyment day to day. Our team works hard to create an atmosphere that feels warm and familiar rather than clinical or institutional. Whether someone is joining us for a short respite stay or moving in on a permanent basis, we want the transition to feel as smooth and reassuring as possible, both for the person themselves and for their loved ones. Heather Grange is a residential care home in Burnley providing a home for older people and for younger adults who need help with everyday life. We support people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, and people with loss of sight or hearing. The place runs at the pace of the people living in it. Breakfast happens when somebody wakes rather than when a trolley arrives, and the day takes the shape a person wants. The care covers washing and dressing, medication, meals cooked here, mobility and the many small practical things that become difficult alone, given in a way that leaves somebody their privacy. For those living with dementia we keep the routine steady and the faces familiar. For people with loss of sight or hearing we adapt how we communicate, how rooms are lit and how we approach and announce ourselves, because those small changes decide whether a person is included or left on the edge of things. Families are welcome whenever they want to come. Respite stays are available. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and you are welcome to visit.

    • Care Home

We are a residential care home in Burnley, providing a home for older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia, people with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with loss of sight or hearing. Our aim is a settled house where help is close at hand without taking over somebody's life. Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Where someone needs help with washing, dressing or moving about, we try to give it without hurry and without doing more of the task than is actually needed. Dementia care rests on knowing the person rather than following a procedure, so we ask families to tell us about working life, children, music, faith and old habits. Where sight or hearing is poor, small habits matter a great deal: saying who you are on coming into a room, speaking clearly and not moving things about without saying so. Meals are cooked here and we listen when somebody would rather have something different. Family and friends are welcome whenever they wish to come. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and look round before deciding anything.

Woodside Home for Older People is a residential care home in Burnley, Lancashire. We care for older people including those living with dementia, and we also support younger adults, people with learning disabilities and people living with mental health conditions. Respite stays are available. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. We aim to run a household rather than an institution. Residents get up when they are ready, eat what they like, keep their own habits and have a genuine say in the way their support is provided. Rooms belong to the people living in them and we encourage families to bring the furniture and pictures that make a space feel familiar. Supporting someone with dementia is largely about consistency, patience and knowing the person's history well enough to make sense of what they are telling us. We keep routines steady and faces familiar, and we respond to the feeling behind a question rather than correcting the facts. Younger residents often want something quite different from older ones, and we plan for that rather than expecting everyone to fit the same day. Keeping connections outside the home, staying active and building confidence all matter. Families are welcome and we would much rather hear a concern early than have you worry quietly. Please get in touch if you would like to visit, meet the team and look around.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Burnley

Dementia makes the financial side harder to plan, because needs rarely stay still and a home that suits someone now may struggle in a year or two. Understanding how assessments and fees work early gives a family room to choose rather than simply react.

Requesting a care needs assessment

Any adult who appears to need care and support can ask for a care needs assessment, and a relative providing that care can request a separate carer's assessment in their own right. Both are arranged through Lancashire County Council adult social care, the authority responsible for assessing need and for arranging funded support where someone qualifies. Where dementia is involved, ask that the assessment records orientation, communication and risk alongside help with washing, dressing and meals. It ends in a written statement of need rather than a recommendation of a particular home.

Who contributes, and how much

Where eligible needs are identified, a financial assessment considers income and capital. Savings above the upper threshold mean the placement is funded privately; below it, the authority contributes and the resident pays an assessed share out of income. How a property is treated depends on who else lives in it and on the circumstances of the household. Where someone no longer has capacity to manage money, ask the team about the arrangements that let a relative act on their behalf.

What the weekly fee covers

Residential fees are charged weekly and normally cover the room, all meals, laundry and personal care. Rates differ between homes in Burnley, and some charge more where a resident needs closer supervision. Ask every shortlisted home for a written breakdown, and ask directly what would happen to the fee, and to the placement, if needs increased significantly.

Choosing between dementia care homes in Burnley

Twelve homes is a workable list, and because three have been told they require improvement the published record genuinely helps to sort it. Reading what inspectors found comes before any visit is arranged.

Reading a report with dementia in mind

Open the full inspection report rather than stopping at the summary word. Each one answers five questions, covering whether a home is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led, and where dementia is concerned the caring and responsive sections repay the closest reading. Where a home requires improvement, the report sets out precisely what the concerns were and when they were found. Check the date as well, since staffing and leadership can change quickly in either direction.

What the registration allows

All twelve providers here are registered for residential care, meaning accommodation with personal care rather than nursing on site. Where dementia comes with clinical needs requiring a qualified nurse on the premises, a nursing registered home is the better starting point. Ask each home what stage of dementia it can support, and what would prompt it to say it could no longer meet someone's needs, because a second move is hard on everyone.

What to watch for on a visit

Go late in the afternoon if you can, when restlessness is most likely to show. Watch how staff respond to someone repeating a question, whether they come down to eye level, and whether they redirect rather than correct. Notice whether corridors are easy to follow, whether bedroom doors are recognisable, and whether residents can move about safely without being followed. Homes such as Towneley House, Heather Grange and Acorn Heights Care Home appear here alongside others, and none of this shows up in a rating.

Burnley has 12 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 29 CQC registered care homes in Burnley: 8 Good, 3 Requires improvement, 1 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

Which dementia care homes in Burnley were inspected most recently?

Healey Lodge Residential Home (22 January 2026), Heather Grange (22 April 2023) and Abiden Care Home (17 March 2023) have the most recent CQC reports.

How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Burnley?

Contact the adult social care team at Lancashire County Council and ask for a care needs assessment, which any adult who appears to need care and support is entitled to request. The request can come from the person themselves, or from a relative, GP or memory clinic acting on their behalf. Where dementia is involved, ask that the assessment covers orientation, communication and risk as well as help with daily tasks. A financial assessment then follows to establish who pays what.

Can Lancashire County Council fund a dementia care home placement?

It can, where the care needs assessment identifies eligible needs and the financial assessment shows that income and capital fall below the relevant thresholds. Lancashire County Council is the authority responsible for carrying out both assessments and for arranging any funded support that follows. Where savings sit above the upper threshold the placement is funded privately, although the team can still explain the options available. Where someone lacks capacity to manage their finances, ask about the arrangements that allow a relative to act for them.

Which providers in Burnley offer dementia care?

Twelve residential care homes in Burnley are listed on this page, and each holds registration with the Care Quality Commission. They include Towneley House, Wordsworth House Care Home, Heather Grange and Acorn Heights Care Home, alongside further homes across the area. What each can support varies, so ask directly about the stage of dementia a home is able to manage. Each profile sets out the registration details and the most recent inspection outcome.

What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?

A dementia care home is registered to provide accommodation with personal care, covering help with washing, dressing, meals, medication and daily support from staff trained in dementia care. A dementia nursing home holds a further registration requiring a qualified nurse on duty, so it can also manage clinical needs such as complex wound care or feeding tubes. Every provider listed on this page is registered for residential care rather than nursing. If nursing input is needed on site, the search should be widened to nursing registered homes.

How far ahead should I start looking for a dementia care home in Burnley?

Starting before a move becomes urgent matters more with dementia than with almost anything else, because a calm decision is far easier on the person moving. Visiting several homes over a few months gives a much clearer sense of how each one manages memory loss day to day. Both the needs assessment and the financial assessment take weeks rather than days to complete. Urgent placements can be arranged after a hospital admission, though the choice available is considerably narrower.

What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Burnley?

Ask what dementia training staff receive and how often it is refreshed, and ask how they respond when a resident becomes distressed or restless. Check how many staff are on duty in the late afternoon and overnight, and how consistently the same carers work with the same residents. Where a home has been told it requires improvement, ask what has changed since the inspection and ask to see the evidence. Finally, ask what would prompt the home to say it could no longer meet someone's needs.
