About Us
Oakdale is a nursing home in Poole. We care for older people and younger adults who need nursing support, including people living with dementia, and we take respite bookings.
Having qualified nurses on site around the clock means people whose health is genuinely complicated can stay with us as things change, rather than being moved on at the point familiarity counts for most. Wounds, pain, continence, nutrition, medication and safe movement are all managed properly here, and a good deal that might otherwise involve hospital does not have to.
None of that is the point on its own, though. Nursing care delivered without thought turns a person into a round of tasks, and we work deliberately against it. People here choose when they get up, what they wear, what is on their plate and how they spend the afternoon. We knock, we explain what we are about to do, and we wait to be told it is all right to go ahead.
Dementia asks for patience above everything. We keep the day familiar, we do not spring changes on people, and when somebody is distressed we look for the reason instead of simply trying to calm them. Relatives usually know the small things that help, including the ones they assume are too minor to mention.
At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
