We are a home care agency based in Sutton Coldfield, providing support to people in their own homes across Birmingham and the area around it. We work with older people and with younger adults, including people with learning disabilities and autistic people, people living with mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities. Supporting that range of needs means resisting the idea of a standard package. For an older person, help may centre on personal care, medication and meals. For a younger adult it is often about living independently: managing a tenancy, getting to work, college or appointments, handling money and taking part in ordinary life outside the house. For an autistic person, predictability and the right approach from the right staff can matter more than the number of hours. So we start by asking what someone wants their life to look like, agree how we can help with that, and then keep checking whether the arrangement is still working. We try to send the same staff consistently, because trust takes time to build and is easily undone by a procession of new faces. Our carers are trained for the needs they are asked to meet and have senior colleagues they can reach when a situation is unclear. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are looking for support at home, please get in touch. We will be honest with you about whether we are the right fit.

Hand of Care supports people in their own homes across Birmingham. We work with older people, people living with dementia, adults with a physical disability, people with visual or hearing impairment and younger adults. Nearly everyone who contacts us wants to carry on living where they are. Our job is to make that practical rather than to take over. Depending on what is needed, that might be a single morning call to help someone wash, dress and get the day going, several visits a day covering personal care, medication, meals and company, or a longer sit so a family carer can have a few hours to themselves. The first conversation is where the work really starts. We want to know how the day usually runs, what has become hard, and what the person can still do perfectly well and would rather we left to them. Support planned that way feels like help rather than interference, and it holds up better when things change. Where sight or hearing is reduced, we adapt how we communicate and keep things where the person expects to find them. Where somebody has a physical disability we think properly about equipment and about not helping more than is wanted. Continuity is where we put our effort, because a familiar carer makes every part of this work better. Please ring us if you would like to talk through what support at home might look like.

We are a home care team based on Vicarage Road in Birmingham, supporting people in their own homes across the city. Those we visit include older adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and younger adults. Birmingham is a city of many languages and backgrounds, and we treat that as practical rather than decorative. Being cared for by somebody you cannot easily talk to is isolating, and food that means nothing to you is not comfort. So we ask about language, faith, diet and custom at the outset, and we match carers accordingly wherever we can. Supporting that range of needs also means resisting a single method. What helps an older person stay safely at home has little in common with what helps a young autistic adult manage their own flat, and a service that treats them alike does neither well. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take it as a floor rather than a credential, and we ask the people we visit how we are doing, acting on the small critical answers rather than the kind general ones.

- Home Care
Home Health Care is a home care agency in Birmingham, visiting people in their own homes across the city. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people who have a physical disability. Nearly everybody we meet at a first visit says the same thing: they want to stay in their own home. Making that realistic for as long as it is safe and genuinely the better option is the whole of our purpose. In practice it means help to get up, washed and dressed in a way that leaves a person feeling like themselves, medication managed and recorded properly, meals actually cooked, help to move safely about a house that may no longer suit its occupant, and a reliable person turning up in a week that could otherwise hold very little. For families who have been holding a situation together alone, it also means a proper break. Birmingham is big and the traffic is unpredictable, so we plan rounds that can actually be achieved rather than ones that look efficient on paper. Being late is a failure, not an inconvenience. Continuity is the other thing we are stubborn about. A carer who knows somebody notices the untouched meal, the new bruise or the sudden quietness. A stranger notices nothing. The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. Ring us and we will tell you plainly what we can and cannot do.

GND Care supports people across Birmingham in their own homes. Most people manage better in familiar surroundings, and our job is to make staying at home practical for as long as it sensibly can be. We support older people who need help with washing and dressing, medication, meals, shopping and getting about safely, and people living with dementia, where a familiar carer and a calm approach achieve far more than a detailed plan handed to somebody new. We also work with adults managing mental health conditions, where reliability and being properly listened to count for a great deal, people living with a physical disability, where good support is largely about making daily life workable again, and people with sight or hearing loss, where sensible adjustments change how a whole day feels. Sending the same carers to the same people is something we plan for rather than leave to chance. It means nobody has to explain themselves every visit, and it means our team notice early when something has shifted. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, and we prefer to say so openly. Until we do, judge us on the ordinary things, punctual visits, a phone that gets answered and honest answers when we cannot do something.

81 Wood Lane is a home care agency in Birmingham, supporting adults in their own homes across the city. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement, and we are putting it first rather than at the end. The inspection identified shortfalls, we have accepted them, and the fair question to put to us is what has actually changed since. Ask it, and expect specifics rather than reassurance. We support older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people managing a mental health condition. Visits cover personal care, medication, meals, safe movement around the home, shopping, appointments and company. What we are concentrating on are the things that decide whether home care works at all. Calls happening when they were promised. The same care workers returning to the same people. Records that reflect what actually took place. A manager who answers the phone when a family needs to talk. If you are arranging support at home in Birmingham, please get in touch. We will tell you honestly whether we can do what you need.

We provide care at home across Birmingham, supporting older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people with mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities. People usually come to us at a point of change: a fall, a stay in hospital, a diagnosis, or the gradual realisation that managing alone has become harder than it used to be. Our part is practical. We arrange visits at the times that suit, help with washing and dressing, support with medication, a hand with meals, shopping and housework, and assistance to move about the house safely. Where needs are greater we arrange more frequent calls, and where they change we review the plan rather than leaving it as it was first agreed. What people really judge an agency on is whether carers arrive when they said they would and whether it is the same faces each week. We work at both. A carer who knows somebody notices when they are unwell, in pain or unusually withdrawn, and for people living with dementia a familiar and unhurried visit does more good than anything written in a care plan. Our staff are trained for the needs they are asked to meet and can reach senior colleagues for advice. We do not yet hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission and are happy to discuss that openly. If you are looking into care at home, please get in touch for an honest conversation.

INT Care is a home care agency in Birmingham, visiting people in their own homes across the city. Most of our work is with older adults, many of them living with dementia, and with people who have a physical disability. We support younger adults too. What people ask us for is usually practical and immediate. Help getting up, washed and dressed. Medicines prompted or given. A hot meal. Help to move safely about the house, sometimes with equipment. Shopping and laundry. Somebody noticing quietly whether things are going downhill. Home care stands or falls on reliability, so that is where we concentrate. Turning up when we said. Sending workers who have been there before. Ringing the family when something seems wrong instead of leaving a note on the table. None of that is clever and all of it is the difference between help that helps and help that adds to the worry. Where someone has dementia we take our lead from the household, because the family already knows the triggers, the words that work and the hour of the day that is difficult. We would much rather be told than find out slowly. We have not yet had a full inspection by the Care Quality Commission, so there is no rating to point you at. Call us instead, and judge us on the visit and the conversation.

Oceans Care provides home care across Birmingham, supporting people in their own homes. The people we visit cover a broad range. Most are older adults, a good number living with dementia. We also support younger adults, people with a learning disability, autistic people, people managing a mental health condition, and people with a physical disability. Often somebody has more than one of those at once, and it is usually the combination that makes managing alone stop being possible. We look at the household as it really is rather than at a list of tasks. Who else lives there and how worn out they are. What the person can still do and would be insulted to have taken over. Which part of the day has actually broken down. From that we agree what we will do, write it in plain language, and change it when circumstances change. Visits run from half an hour to most of a day and cover personal care, medicines, meals, housework, shopping, appointments and company. We aim to send the same few workers to each household, because continuity is most of what makes home care tolerable. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Ring us and we will come out and listen before suggesting anything.

Carewell supports people in their own homes across Birmingham. We work with older people, people living with dementia, people living with mental ill health, adults with a physical disability, younger adults and people affected by alcohol or drug misuse. Home care should fit into a life that already exists rather than rearrange it. We begin by asking how the day usually runs, what has become difficult and what somebody can still do perfectly well and would rather keep doing. Plans written that way tend to stick, and they make the support feel like help rather than intrusion. Our visits cover personal care, support with medication, meals, help around the house and getting out to appointments or into town. Where somebody is struggling with alcohol or drugs, we work without moralising. Reliability and being treated as a capable adult do more good than advice nobody asked for. Continuity is where we concentrate our effort. A familiar carer who knows the house, the routine and the person is worth more than any amount of paperwork, and it is what allows us to notice when something changes. We keep families informed where the person wants that, and we raise concerns early rather than waiting for a review. Please get in touch if you would like to talk things through.

MH Quality Care provides care and support to people in their own homes in Birmingham. We work with older people and with younger adults, and our experience covers dementia, learning disabilities and autism, mental health needs, physical disabilities, sensory loss and eating disorders. We begin with a visit at home and a straightforward conversation about what would actually help. Support that takes over more than it needs to does more harm than good, so we are as interested in what somebody intends to keep doing for themselves as in what they want from us. The plan is agreed together and changes as life changes rather than when a review date arrives. Support may be a single short call each day, several visits for personal care, medication, meals, housework and company, or longer stretches for somebody who should not be alone. For people managing a mental health condition or an eating disorder, consistency and clear expectations help more than reassurance, and we try to be steady rather than unpredictable. Across such a range of needs, training is a practical matter. A carer supporting an autistic person, one supporting somebody in the later stages of dementia and one supporting somebody with poor sight each need different knowledge, and ours have it before they go out to anybody. Our staff are checked, trained and supervised, and we are registered with and regulated by the Care Quality Commission. Please ask us anything you need to.

We provide care at home for people across Birmingham, supporting them in the houses and flats they already know rather than asking them to move anywhere. The people we visit include older people, many of them living with dementia, as well as younger adults, people with a learning disability or autism, people with a physical disability, people with sight or hearing loss and people managing mental health conditions. Our starting point is a conversation in your own home. We want to know what your day normally looks like, which parts have become harder, and what you would rather carry on doing without anybody helping. The plan comes from your answers, and we revisit it as things change instead of leaving it to sit. Our carers help with personal care, medication, cooking, shopping, housework, getting out to appointments, and spending time with people who otherwise have very little company. Because our work covers such a range of needs, we think carefully about matching carers to the people they visit, and we keep teams small so the same faces turn up. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and we are happy to be asked about our training, our staffing and how we deal with concerns. Families usually want two things from an agency. Somebody who arrives when they said they would, and somebody who tells them the truth when something has gone wrong. We aim to be both. Watra Care provides support at home for people across Birmingham. The people we visit include older people, many of them living with dementia, as well as people with a learning disability or autism, people with a physical disability, people with sight or hearing loss and people managing mental health conditions. With a range that wide we do not pretend one approach suits everybody. We spend proper time at the start understanding how somebody lives, what they want help with and what they would rather keep doing themselves, and we then think carefully about which carer suits which person. The right match makes more difference than anything written in a plan, and once it is working we try to protect it by keeping the same small team visiting. Visits can cover personal care and medication, cooking, shopping and housework, support to get out into the community, or company for somebody who sees very few people in a week. Some people need one short call a day and others need several, or support overnight. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We treat it as the standard we are expected to hold rather than an achievement to display, and we keep asking the people we support whether we are doing what we promised. If you would like to discuss care at home in Birmingham for yourself or a relative, we are happy to come out and talk it through with no obligation.

Here at Attentive Community Care, we provide home care to people living in Birmingham and the surrounding areas, supporting individuals to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes for as long as possible. We work with a wide range of people, including older adults, younger adults, and those living with dementia, mental health conditions, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments. Every person we support has their own story, their own routines, and their own way of doing things, and we take that seriously. Our role is to fit around your life, not the other way around. Home care means something different to everyone. For some people, that looks like help with getting up and dressed in the morning. For others, it is companionship, support with medication, or assistance with meals and household tasks. Whatever is needed, we try to make sure our support feels natural and unobtrusive, so that the people we care for can hold on to as much independence as possible. We know that inviting someone into your home requires a great deal of trust, and we do not take that lightly. We take time to get to know the people we support and the families around them, because good care is built on real relationships rather than a checklist. Our team is made up of people who genuinely understand the communities they work in, and we are proud to be based right here in Birmingham. Whether someone needs short visits a few times a week or more regular daily support, we are here to have an honest conversation about what would work best. If you would like to find out more about how we could support you or someone you care about, please do get in touch. We are always happy to talk things through.

- Home Care
Right Choice Living is a home care agency in Birmingham, supporting people in their own homes across the city. We work with older people and younger adults, with people living with dementia, with people who have mental health needs and with people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug misuse. That mix means we cannot work from a template. An older person living with dementia who needs two visits a day and a younger adult rebuilding a life after years of drinking require entirely different things, and the only way to get either right is to ask the person rather than read across from a referral form. The practical side includes personal care, medication managed and recorded properly, meals cooked, help about the house and support to keep appointments and routines from slipping. For people in recovery from alcohol or drug use we work alongside the specialist teams already involved, we follow the plan rather than improvising, and we leave the moralising out of it. Dignity here is not something anybody has to earn through good behaviour. For people living with dementia we keep the same small group of carers going to the same homes, because familiarity is what makes a visit calm and a familiar carer is the one who notices a change early. We do not yet hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. Call us and we will be straight about what we can take on.

Arranging and funding home care in Birmingham
Before comparing agencies, it helps to understand what level of support is actually needed and how it will be funded. A structured plan usually begins with a formal assessment of care needs, followed by a conversation about costs and any contribution the local authority may make.
Arranging a care needs assessment
Anyone who feels they may need help at home can request a free care needs assessment from Birmingham City Council Adult Social Care, the body responsible for assessing eligibility and arranging funded support across the city. A social worker will look at daily tasks such as washing, dressing, preparing meals, managing medication, and moving around safely. The outcome sets out what kind of care is recommended and how many hours a week it should cover.
Financial assessment and local authority support
Where someone meets the eligibility threshold, Birmingham City Council will carry out a financial assessment to decide how much they should contribute. People with capital and savings above the national upper threshold usually fund their own care, while those with lower means may receive full or partial support. Direct payments are also available if you prefer to arrange care yourself rather than have the council commission it.
Typical cost context
Home care in Birmingham is generally charged by the hour, with rates influenced by the time of day, whether care is needed at weekends, and how complex the tasks are. Live in care carries a separate weekly fee. Ask for a written breakdown covering hourly rates, travel charges, cancellation terms, and any additional weekend or bank holiday costs before signing anything.
Choosing between home care agencies in Birmingham
With over three hundred agencies to consider, narrowing down the list means looking at more than price. Consistency of carers, the depth of training, and how the service responds when something goes wrong all matter as much as the headline rate.
CQC ratings and inspection history
The Care Quality Commission publishes reports on every registered agency. Among the Birmingham providers listed on Care Assura, examples of Good rated services include A Peel Ltd, Agape Healthcare Limited, All Care In One Ltd, Annix Care, Antoine Care LTD, and Bolingo Care Birmingham Branch. Others such as 24-7 Care Services, Blessed Hearts Home Care, and Care Packages UK Limited are currently rated Requires Improvement, while Alliance Care Ltd holds an Inadequate rating. Many newer agencies including Acire Care Birmingham and AH Home Care Birmingham are not yet rated, so ask directly about their approach to quality.
Questions to ask before you commit
Ask how the agency matches carers to clients, whether the same small team will visit each week, and how visits are covered when a regular carer is unwell or on leave. Check how care plans are written, reviewed, and shared with family, and how medication support is recorded. It is reasonable to ask about staff training, background checks, and whether the agency uses electronic monitoring so relatives can see when visits took place.
Signs of a well run service
A confident agency will welcome questions, provide a written contract, and offer a trial period. Look for clear complaints procedures, named office contacts, and evidence that carers have time to travel between visits without cutting calls short.

Can Birmingham City Council fund home care for someone in Birmingham?
Yes, Birmingham City Council can contribute towards home care costs where a person is assessed as having eligible needs and their finances fall below the national capital threshold. A financial assessment looks at income and savings to decide how much you should pay yourself. Support may come as commissioned care, a personal budget, or a direct payment that you use to arrange care independently. People above the threshold usually pay privately but can still ask the council for advice.
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Birmingham?
You can request an assessment directly through Birmingham City Council's adult social care service, either online, by phone, or with help from a GP or hospital discharge team. A social worker or assessor will discuss daily routines, health conditions, and any risks around the home. The outcome is a written care and support plan that sets out recommended hours and the type of help required. There is no charge for the assessment itself.
What should I ask when meeting a home care agency in Birmingham?
Ask how carers are matched, whether you will see the same small team regularly, and how the agency covers visits during holidays or sickness. Check how care plans are written and reviewed, and whether family members can see visit logs. Enquire about staff training, medication procedures, background checks, and how complaints are handled. It is also sensible to ask for a written contract that sets out hourly rates, notice periods, and any extra charges.

Examples with a Good CQC rating include A Peel Ltd, Agape Healthcare Limited, All Seasons Care Limited, Annix Care, and Bolingo Care Birmingham Branch. What is the difference between home care and a home care agency providing nursing support?
General home care focuses on personal care and daily living tasks such as washing, dressing, meal preparation, and companionship, delivered by trained care workers. Home care that includes nursing tasks requires input from a registered nurse or a district nursing service arranged through the NHS, for things like wound care, injections, or managing complex conditions. Some agencies coordinate closely with community nurses, while others provide only personal care. If clinical needs are significant, it is worth checking whether a nursing home or NHS Continuing Healthcare might be more appropriate.
How far in advance should I start looking for home care in Birmingham?
Where possible, begin looking four to six weeks before care is likely to be needed, particularly if you are waiting on a hospital discharge or a change in circumstances. This allows time for a care needs assessment, a financial assessment, and a proper comparison of agencies. Urgent situations can often be handled more quickly, and some Birmingham agencies accept new clients within a few days. Starting early also gives room for a trial period so you can adjust the arrangement if it is not the right fit.
