    • Care Home

Manor House Residential Home is in Willenhall. We care for older people who need support with daily living, including those living with dementia, those with a physical disability and those whose sight or hearing is impaired. We also support some younger adults. What we provide is help with the everyday: getting washed and dressed, medication given properly and on time, meals cooked here, support to move about safely and staff available at night. Around that, residents arrange their own days, and we try not to organise people's lives for them. For residents living with dementia we keep the rhythm of the day predictable and the staff around them consistent. Where sight or hearing is impaired we keep belongings exactly where they are expected, approach people so as not to startle them, speak clearly rather than loudly and check we have actually been understood. Where people need help to move, we take the time doing it comfortably requires. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places, which can give a family carer a genuine break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families across Walsall are welcome to visit. Please ring and we will arrange to show you round.

    • Care Home

Inglewood Residential Home is a residential care home in Willenhall, Walsall. We are home to older people and to younger adults who need support with everyday life, including residents living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period. We try to run this as a house where people live rather than a place where care is administered. Residents tell us when they prefer to get up, what they like to eat, how much help they want with washing and dressing and how they want to spend the day, and the day is built from those answers rather than from a rota that suits us. Support with personal care, meals, medication and appointments is given quietly and with respect for privacy. Dementia care runs through a great deal of what we do. We take time to learn a person's history, the people and places that matter to them and the rhythms that help them feel settled, because that knowledge is what allows us to reassure someone who is anxious rather than correct them. We keep the day predictable and explain changes in advance where we can. Families are welcome whenever they want to visit, and we would much rather hear about a concern early than find out later that something was wrong. Anyone considering Inglewood is welcome to come and see the house on an ordinary day.

    • Care Home

Woodthorne Care Home in Willenhall provides residential care to older people and younger adults, including many residents living with dementia. We want people who move in to find that it becomes home before long, and that families can stop worrying about the decision they have made. Much of that comes down to ordinary things done consistently. Getting up when you want to. Meals cooked here that people look forward to. Help with washing and dressing given calmly and with dignity. Enough support to move about safely without feeling hemmed in. Dementia care forms a large part of our work. We keep the rhythm of the day predictable, give people time to respond, and spend real effort learning who a person has been. That history is usually what allows us to reach someone who is distressed, and it makes everyday conversation better too. Visitors are welcome here and we do not treat visiting as an interruption. Come and share a meal, join an activity, or take your relative out for the afternoon. We also provide respite care for shorter stays. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and we would be pleased to show you round.

    • Care Home

Selwyn Court is a residential care home in Willenhall, Walsall. We support older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, autistic adults and people with a learning disability, adults with physical disabilities, and people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug misuse. We also offer respite stays. Supporting that range under one roof takes plans built around individuals rather than categories. We spend proper time getting to know somebody, we write down what actually helps them and what does not, and we review it honestly as things change. What settles one person here would unsettle another, and we would rather find that out by asking than by guessing. People keep their own belongings around them, choose how they spend their days and take part in the ordinary business of the house as much as they want to. There is company and activity for anybody who wants it and quiet for anybody who does not. Where somebody is in recovery from alcohol or drug use, we offer reliability without judgement and work alongside the specialist teams involved rather than around them. Where somebody lives with dementia, we hold routines and faces steady. We work closely with families, social workers, GPs and community teams in Walsall. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Visitors and referrers are welcome to come and see the home.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Willenhall

Dementia care asks more of a staff team than general residential care does, because so much depends on how a carer responds in the moment rather than on what the building offers. All four homes listed here are registered to support people living with dementia and provide personal care rather than nursing care on site. With the inspection results as varied as they are, reading the evidence is the most important step you can take.

Taking the ratings seriously

Woodthorne Care Home, Selwyn Court, and Manor House Residential Home each hold a Good rating. Inglewood Residential Home has been rated Inadequate, which is the lowest judgement the Care Quality Commission gives and reflects findings serious enough to warrant close scrutiny. If you are considering it at all, read the report in full, note the date of the inspection, and ask the provider directly what has changed since and what oversight is now in place. Treat the three Good reports as the more useful starting point.

Signs of a home that understands dementia

Ask what dementia training the staff have had and how often the same carers work the same shifts, because familiarity does more for a person with dementia than almost any facility. Ask how someone's history and routines are recorded and how that reaches the carer on duty at night. Look for calm noise levels, clear signs and landmarks, secure outdoor space, and flexible mealtimes. Ask what happens when a resident becomes anxious, and listen for reassurance rather than restriction.

Choosing between dementia care homes in Willenhall

The care needs assessment

Any adult who appears to need care and support can ask for a free assessment of their needs, and a diagnosis is not a prerequisite. Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council carries out the assessment and arranges funded support for those found eligible. A relative providing regular unpaid care can request a separate carer's assessment of their own needs. Ask early, as needs tend to change more quickly than arrangements can be made.

Fees and financial support

Where support is agreed, a financial assessment of income and capital determines the authority's share and the person's own contribution. Many families fund a placement privately and deal directly with the home. Fees are quoted weekly and vary with the room, the support required, and whether specialist dementia provision is involved, so ask for a written breakdown of what is included. Where a person has a primary health need, NHS continuing healthcare may meet the cost instead.

Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Willenhall

How many dementia care homes are there in Willenhall?

Willenhall has 4 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 7 CQC registered care homes in Willenhall: 3 Good, 1 Inadequate. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

Which dementia care homes in Willenhall were inspected most recently?

Inglewood Residential Home (20 April 2026), Selwyn Court (2 November 2023) and Manor House Residential Home (6 April 2023) have the most recent CQC reports.

Which care homes in Willenhall provide dementia care?

Four residential care homes are listed on this page: Woodthorne Care Home, Selwyn Court, Manor House Residential Home, and Inglewood Residential Home. Each is registered with the Care Quality Commission to support people living with dementia, and each profile sets out registration details and the most recent inspection judgement. The ratings differ considerably between them, so read the reports rather than the labels. Availability will depend on occupancy at the time you enquire.

What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?

A dementia care home provides personal care, supervision, and support with daily living from trained care staff. A dementia nursing home provides the same and keeps registered nurses on duty, so it can meet clinical needs such as complex medication or swallowing difficulties. All four providers on this page are registered as residential care homes rather than nursing homes. If nursing care is likely to be needed, raise it at the first enquiry so the home can tell you plainly what it can manage.

What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Willenhall?

Ask what dementia training the staff have received, how much the team changes, and how consistently the same carers work with the same residents. Ask what the home does when a resident becomes distressed and how families are kept informed. Where a home has received a poor inspection judgement, ask exactly what the inspector found, what has changed since, and what evidence there is for it. Spend time in the communal areas and trust what you observe.

How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Willenhall?

Contact Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council adult social care and ask for an assessment of needs, which a relative can request with the person's consent. The assessment is free and carries no obligation. An assessor will consider how the person manages day to day, what family already provides, and where support would make a difference. Note the reference you are given, as it saves retelling the whole story at each later stage.

Can Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council fund a dementia care home placement?

It can, where a care needs assessment finds the person eligible for support and a financial assessment shows they qualify for help with the fees. Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council is responsible for both stages, and the contribution depends on income and capital. Some people have the full cost met, others a proportion, and others are assessed as funding the placement themselves. Where the main need is a health need, NHS continuing healthcare may apply instead.

How far in advance should I start looking for dementia care in Willenhall?

Start as early as you can, particularly here, where the quality of the available homes varies and you will want time to read the reports carefully. Two or three months lets you visit, compare, and get an assessment under way without deciding in haste. Where events have moved quickly, contact the homes with the stronger inspection records first and be clear about what is needed. An assessment already completed will make any arrangement faster.
