- Care Home
We at Fazakerley House Residential Care Home are proud to offer compassionate residential care in the heart of Prescot, Knowsley. Our welcoming home provides a comfortable, familiar setting where older people, younger adults, and those living with dementia can feel safe, valued, and truly at home. Nestled within the Prescot community in the L postcode area of Merseyside, our home benefits from its position within the wider North West region, offering families ease of visiting whilst residents enjoy the character of a well established local neighbourhood. The surroundings provide a peaceful backdrop for daily life, with the comforts of a residential setting designed to feel warm and homely rather than clinical. Our care specialisms reflect the diverse needs of the people we support. Alongside residential care for older people, we offer dedicated dementia care, delivered with patience, understanding, and respect for each person's individual journey. We also welcome younger adults and those living with a physical disability, tailoring the support we provide so that every resident can live as independently and comfortably as possible. For families who need short term support, our respite care offers reassurance and continuity, whether following a hospital stay, during a family holiday, or simply to allow a loved one a change of scene. In practice, this means our team takes time to understand the person behind the care plan. We build relationships with families, listen carefully to preferences and routines, and encourage residents to continue enjoying the interests and connections that matter most to them. Whether it is a familiar cup of tea in the morning, a chat with a friend in a shared lounge, or gentle reassurance during a difficult moment, we believe the small things make the biggest difference. Families can take further comfort from our Care Quality Commission rating of Good, awarded following our most recent inspection in December 2022. We were rated Good across every domain assessed, including Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. This reflects the consistent effort of our team to provide care that is not only kind and personalised but also delivered to a standard families can trust. For anyone weighing up the difficult decision of choosing a care home, an independent rating of this kind offers meaningful reassurance. Choosing residential care for someone you love is rarely easy, and we understand the weight of that decision. If you are exploring options in Prescot or the wider Knowsley area, we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask questions, and learn more about life at Fazakerley House. We are here to listen, to reassure, and to help you find the right path forward for your family.

- Care Home
Fazakerley House is a residential care home in Prescot. We support older people and younger adults who need help with daily living, including residents who live with dementia and residents with physical disabilities. We think a care home works best when it stays recognisably domestic. People bring their own furniture and photographs, keep their own routines, get up and go to bed when it suits them, and carry on being consulted about their own affairs. Our role is to supply the help that is genuinely needed and then to get out of the way, which sounds simple and takes a good deal of attention to do consistently. Practically, that means working out with each resident what they want to manage alone, where a hand makes the difference, and how their day should be shaped. For residents with reduced mobility we plan equipment and support around what they want to be able to reach and do, not merely around safe handling. For residents with dementia we rely on familiar faces, unchanged routines and a building that is easy to navigate. The Care Quality Commission last rated us good overall. Choosing a home for someone is a hard thing to do on a tour and a brochure. Come more than once if you can, at different times of day, and talk to the people who live here as well as to us.

- Care Home
Griffin House Care Home is a care home in Prescot. We provide residential care for older people, including people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement, and we would rather put it at the start than leave it to be discovered. The inspection found things that were not good enough for the people living here. We have accepted those findings and we are working through them. Anyone considering the home should ask precisely what was identified and precisely what has changed since, and should press if the answer sounds general. What we are working towards is straightforward. A home where residents decide how their own day runs, where rooms belong to the people in them, where visitors come when it suits them, and where staff know the people they support properly rather than in outline. For those living with dementia, familiarity carries most of the weight: the same faces, a recognisable rhythm to the day, and a team who take the trouble to learn a person's history. Please visit before you decide anything. Read the inspection report in full, talk to residents and relatives, and judge the home on what you find.

- Care Home
Here at Amberley Court Care Home, we provide residential and dementia care for older adults in the heart of Prescot, St. Helens. We are proud to have received a "Good" rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the genuine effort our whole team puts in day to day to make sure the people we support feel safe, valued and at home. We care for older people who may be living with dementia, managing a physical disability, or simply needing some extra support with daily life. We also offer respite care for those who need a short stay, whether to recover after a period of illness or to give a family carer a chance to rest. Whatever brings someone to us, we take the time to get to know them properly, their preferences, their routines and the things that matter most to them. Life at Amberley Court is built around the individual. We do not believe in a one size fits all approach. Some residents want to be busy and social, joining in with activities and spending time with others. Some prefer a quieter pace and value the comfort of familiar faces and a calm environment. We work to make sure there is room for both, and everything in between. Families are always welcome here. We know that choosing a care home for someone you love is not a decision taken lightly, and we want to make sure you feel confident and reassured from the very first conversation. Our doors are open, and we encourage relatives to stay involved and visit as often as they wish. If you would like to find out more about what we offer or arrange a visit, please do get in touch. We would be very happy to show you around and answer any questions you may have.

- Care Home
Prospect House Care Home is a residential home in Prescot supporting people living with dementia, with respite stays available alongside permanent places. Dementia care is what we do, so we try to do it properly rather than approximately. That means a day with a predictable shape, familiar staff, and surroundings that somebody can make sense of and find their way around. It means time, which is the thing most often in short supply, so that when a person is anxious or confused our staff can sit with them and work out what is happening rather than hurry them along. It also means knowing people. We ask families to tell us about a person's working life, their habits, the music they love, the routines they have kept for decades and the people who matter to them. That history is nearly always what allows us to reassure somebody rather than correct them, and it turns a set of needs back into a person. Rooms are personal, visitors are welcome without appointment, and we would always rather raise a concern with relatives early than leave a worry to sit. Moving a relative into a care home is a decision most families agonise over, and we try to make the early weeks as steady as we can. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the home and ask us whatever you want to know.

- Care Home
Cedric House is a residential care home in Prescot supporting people living with dementia. We offer permanent places and respite stays. Dementia care is what we do rather than one thing among many, and it shapes how the whole house runs. The constants carry most of the weight. Familiar faces. A predictable shape to the day. Meals at the times the body expects. Music and food from the right part of somebody's life. Staff who neither hurry nor correct, because how a moment feels lasts a great deal longer than whether it is remembered. We build around what a person can still do rather than keeping a tally of what has gone. Somebody who has always laid a table can still lay a table. Somebody who has always liked a walk before lunch still likes a walk before lunch. Finding those threads and keeping hold of them is most of the job. Families are part of this. Relatives usually know the thing that turns a hard week around, and no assessment will ever capture it, so we ask and we listen. Respite stays give a family carer a genuine break with proper support in place. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit on an ordinary day.

- Care Home
Tree Tops Residential Home is a care home in Prescot providing care for older people, including people living with dementia, along with shorter respite stays. We try to keep the home domestic rather than institutional. People get up when they wake, eat what they like, and pass the day as they choose. Some are in company from breakfast onwards and some would far rather have their own room and the paper, and neither preference draws any comment from us. The care covers help with washing and dressing, prompting and administering medication, meals cooked on the premises, support with mobility, and somebody always about when a person needs them. For those living with dementia we keep the routine steady and the staff familiar, and we arrange the house so that it is easy to understand and move around in. Prescot is home for most of the people living here, and we keep those connections going with trips out, visitors from local groups, and family welcome whenever they wish to come. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and you are welcome to visit.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Prescot
Five Good ratings and one Requires Improvement makes this a list to read home by home rather than in a block. Good describes a wide band of performance, and a single lower judgement can rest on anything from a medicines record to something more serious. The reports are freely available on every profile here, and they are the only independent account of how each home performs.
What good dementia practice looks like
Ask what dementia training staff receive, how often it is refreshed, and who leads on it within the home. Watch how a member of staff responds to someone who is confused or upset, because one exchange of that kind tells you more than any policy document. Ask how the home learns a person's history, habits and preferences, and how it handles walking at night, broken sleep and reluctance to eat. Prospect House Care Home, Fazakerley House Residential Care Home, Amberley Court Care Home, Tree Tops Residential Home and Griffin House Care Home each have a profile here.
Looking behind the rating
Compare the assessed areas individually and check how recently each inspection took place, since a report from several years ago describes a home that may since have changed hands or managers. For the home rated Requires Improvement, find out what the inspector identified and ask the manager directly what has been done about it. It is also worth asking at what point the home would say it could no longer meet someone's needs, because dementia makes that question more likely to arise than it would otherwise be.
Choosing between dementia care homes in Prescot
Assessing what help is needed
Anyone who appears to need care and support has a right to have those needs assessed, whatever their finances. For people living in Prescot this runs through Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, which is responsible for adult social care assessment and for funded support. Where dementia is involved, describe the harder days rather than an average one, since the assessment should capture how the condition affects daily life at its most demanding. A relative providing care can request a carer's assessment in their own name at the same time.
What the rate includes
Each home sets its own weekly fee, reflecting the room as much as the support provided, so a written quotation is the only figure worth planning around. The financial assessment then determines how the cost divides, weighing income, savings and property against the national thresholds. Where the council contributes it will have a view on a reasonable weekly rate, and any difference from a home's own price should be settled before a move. Ask what the fee excludes and whether rising needs would change it, because with dementia they often do.
Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Prescot
How many dementia care homes are there in Prescot?
Prescot has 7 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 9 CQC registered care homes in Prescot: 6 Good, 1 Requires improvement. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
Which dementia care homes in Prescot were inspected most recently?
Prospect House Care Home (19 May 2026), Amberley Court Care Home (20 December 2023) and Griffin House Care Home (11 May 2023) have the most recent CQC reports.
Which residential care homes in Prescot appear on this page?
The count for Prescot is six, covering providers such as Prospect House Care Home, Fazakerley House Residential Care Home, Cedric House EMI Residential Care Home, Griffin House Care Home and Amberley Court Care Home. Each holds registration with the Care Quality Commission. Of those listed, five hold a Good rating and one is rated Requires Improvement. Use the profiles to read the inspection findings before you telephone anyone.
Dementia care home or dementia nursing home: what is the difference?
One has nurses, the other does not. A dementia care home gives personal care, meaning assistance with washing, dressing, medication and daily routine from trained care staff. A nursing home keeps registered nurses on duty and can therefore handle complex wounds, feeding tubes and conditions that are not stable. None of the 7 providers listed for Prescot holds nursing registration.
Which questions matter most?
Ask what the home would find difficult, not just what it does well. Then cover staffing by day and night, agency use and how long the manager has been in post. Watch how a member of staff responds to someone confused or distressed, and ask who sets that approach. Go through meals, laundry, visiting arrangements and what belongings can come. End with the last inspection and what has changed since.
Who do I ask for a care needs assessment?
Put the request to Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, which is responsible for assessing adult social care needs. A telephone call to the adult social care team is usually enough, though most councils take the request online as well. Be specific about memory, orientation, communication and any risk or distress, and do not understate the difficult episodes. Keep a note of the date, and ring again if you hear nothing for several weeks.
Can Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council pay towards this care?
Help is available where the need is accepted and the means test supports it, and Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council administers both parts. The financial assessment looks at income, savings and any property. Ask what weekly figure the council works to, since a difference between that and the home's price becomes a practical problem. Ask about the council's usual weekly rate early, since a gap between that and a home's fee has to be filled from somewhere.
When should we start looking?
Before it feels urgent, because dementia rarely gives much warning when it changes. Begin before it is pressing and you keep the initiative; leave it and you inherit whatever is free. Early enquiries also let both assessments finish in good order. Where the situation is already urgent, say so plainly when you telephone, since homes sometimes keep a little flexibility in reserve.
