    • Care Home

Elm House is a residential care home in Nantwich, Cheshire, providing a permanent home for adults who need care and support with everyday life. We aim for a household where people are known properly rather than looked after efficiently. Our care is residential rather than nursing. We help with personal care, medication, meals, mobility and company, and we bring in community health professionals when something more clinical is needed. Many of our residents live with dementia, and we rely on the quiet things that genuinely help: familiar staff who know a person's history, a routine that stays where it is, food that is recognisable and reassurance repeated as often as it is wanted. We also support younger adults, and we plan their interests and routines on their own terms rather than folding them into a pattern designed for older residents. Respite stays are available, giving family carers a real break and letting a prospective resident spend time here before any permanent decision. We do not currently hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. We would rather be judged on what you see on an ordinary day than on anything written here, so please visit and ask us the questions that matter to you.

    • Care Home

Brookfield House Care Home is a residential home in Nantwich. We care for older people who need support with daily living, including those living with dementia and those whose physical disability means they need help to move about safely. We also support some younger adults. What we provide is help with the everyday: getting washed and dressed, medication given properly and on time, meals cooked here, support to move about safely and staff available through the night. Around that, residents arrange their own days, and we try not to organise people's lives for them. Dementia care here rests on familiarity. Keeping staff, routines and surroundings consistent takes a good deal of anxiety out of the day, so we plan rotas with that in mind and we ask families for the history that helps us make sense of somebody when words are hard to find. Respite stays are available, whether to give a family carer a planned break or to help somebody regain confidence after a spell in hospital. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families across Cheshire East are welcome to visit. Please ring and we will show you round.

Our home has been thoughtfully designed to feel like a true extension of family life, where every resident is known, valued, and cared for as an individual. Nestled in the charming market town of Nantwich, our home benefits from the gentle pace and community spirit that this part of the North West is known for. The surroundings offer a calm and reassuring atmosphere for our residents, whilst remaining conveniently accessible for visiting family and friends. Inside, we have created comfortable communal spaces where residents can socialise, relax, or simply enjoy a quiet moment, alongside private areas that offer dignity and personal sanctuary. Our care specialisms reflect the diverse needs of the people we support. As well as providing residential care for older people, we offer dedicated dementia care delivered with patience, understanding, and a genuine commitment to preserving each person's identity. For those living with a physical disability, we adapt our support to promote independence wherever possible, ensuring residents feel empowered rather than defined by their needs. We also welcome respite care guests, offering families reassurance during times when a short stay may be needed, whether following hospital discharge, to allow a primary carer a much needed break, or simply to trial life within our community. In practice, this means our approach is always personalised. We take time to understand each resident's history, preferences, and daily routines, working closely with families to build a picture of the whole person. From familiar meals and favourite pastimes to the small comforts that make a house feel like home, we aim to honour what matters most to those in our care.

    • Care Home

Barony Lodge Residential Care Home is in Nantwich, Cheshire. We provide residential care for older people, including people living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we offer respite stays. We run the home as a household. People get up when they wake, sit where they choose, eat what they enjoy and keep the habits of a lifetime. Help with washing, dressing, medication and getting about is given when it is needed, quietly and with respect for privacy. Good dementia care depends on knowing people. Our team learns each resident's history, their family and the things that reassure them when they are unsettled, and works at the resident's pace rather than ours. For those with a sensory impairment, we think carefully about lighting, noise and how we approach somebody, because those details do a great deal for confidence. Relatives are part of the home here. They visit when it suits them, and we keep in touch about health and mood rather than only ringing when something has gone wrong. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are looking at residential care in Nantwich or the surrounding area, please arrange to visit, meet the team and take your time over the decision.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Nantwich

Four residential care homes in Nantwich are registered to support people living with dementia, a small field that you can comfortably visit in full and should. Each provides accommodation with personal care, so help with washing, dressing, medication and meals comes from care staff, with district nurses and the local practice attending as needed. None is registered as a nursing home, so where clinical care from a qualified nurse is part of the picture now or likely soon, the assessment should point you towards a different registration.

What To Watch For In A Dementia Setting

Visit at a busy hour and spend most of the time watching rather than talking. Notice whether residents are occupied or simply seated, whether staff come down to eye level with people who cannot easily reply and whether anyone is left calling out unattended. Ask what dementia training staff have completed and how often it is refreshed, how the home responds when a resident becomes distressed or tries to leave, and how often medication is used at those moments. Look at whether the layout helps people find their own room and whether a secure outdoor space is genuinely used.

Reading The Inspection Evidence

Three of the four homes hold a rating of Good, those being Barony Lodge Residential Care Home, Woodeaves Residential Care Home and Brookfield House Care Home. Elm House Residential Care Home has not yet been inspected and rated, which is common for a newer registration and is not a mark against it, though it leaves less independent evidence to weigh. Where a home is unrated, ask how long it has been operating, ask to speak with the registered manager and ask whether families already using it would be willing to talk to you. For the rated homes, read the sections on caring and on responsiveness rather than stopping at the headline word.

Choosing between dementia care homes in Nantwich

The Care Needs Assessment

A care needs assessment costs nothing and can be requested by the person themselves or by a relative acting on their behalf. For dementia it should capture how needs are likely to progress, not only how they stand today, since a home that cannot adapt may mean a second move later. Begin with Cheshire East Council adult social care, which is responsible for assessing eligible needs and arranging funded placements in this area. Check the written outcome reflects the person at their most confused as well as their clearest.

Fees And Who Pays Them

Weekly fees differ between homes and rooms, and dementia care can cost more where closer supervision is needed, so ask for the fee in writing with exclusions set out plainly. Where eligible needs are confirmed, a financial assessment of income and capital sets the resident's contribution and what the local authority meets. If a chosen home charges above what the local authority will fund, a relative may be asked for a top up, agreed in writing before a move.

Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Nantwich

How many dementia care homes are there in Nantwich?

Nantwich has 4 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 5 CQC registered care homes in Nantwich: 3 Good, 1 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

Which dementia care homes in Nantwich were inspected most recently?

Brookfield House Care Home (15 February 2023), Barony Lodge Residential Care Home (3 August 2019) and Woodeaves Residential Care Home (8 March 2019) have the most recent CQC reports.

Which providers in Nantwich offer dementia care?

Four residential care homes registered to support people living with dementia currently serve Nantwich and all are listed on this page. They are Barony Lodge Residential Care Home, Woodeaves Residential Care Home, Brookfield House Care Home and Elm House Residential Care Home. Registrations differ in the detail, so confirm with each home that it can meet the particular needs involved. Every profile links through to the full inspection report where one has been published.

What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?

A dementia care home provides a place to live with personal care from staff trained in supporting people with dementia, covering help with washing, dressing, medication and meals. A dementia nursing home holds a registration obliging it to have qualified nurses on duty, so it can meet clinical needs alongside the dementia support. All four providers listed for Nantwich are registered as residential care homes rather than nursing homes. Nursing needs often develop as dementia advances, and a care needs assessment will identify when a nursing registration becomes necessary.

What should I ask when visiting a dementia care home in Nantwich?

Ask what dementia training the staff have had and how recently it was refreshed. Find out how the home responds when a resident becomes distressed or wants to leave, and how often medication is relied on in those situations. Ask how many staff are on duty overnight, whether there is a secure garden and what residents actually do between meals. It helps to ask whether a life history is taken on admission and how families contribute to reviewing the care plan.

How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Nantwich?

Contact the adult social care team at Cheshire East Council and ask for a care needs assessment, which is free to anyone who appears to need care and support. The request can be made by the person concerned or by a relative, friend or health professional on their behalf. If the person is in hospital, the ward discharge team will usually begin the assessment before they leave. Ask for a written copy of the outcome, since care homes will want to read it.

Can Cheshire East Council fund a dementia care home placement in Nantwich?

It can, where a care needs assessment establishes eligible needs and a financial assessment confirms the person qualifies for help with the fees. The local authority may meet the full cost or part of it, with the resident contributing from income and capital under the national charging rules. Cheshire East Council carries out both assessments, so an application begins there. If a family prefers a home charging more than the local authority will fund, a relative may be asked for a third party top up.

How far in advance should we start looking for dementia care?

Start sooner than feels necessary, because dementia needs tend to change in steps and a suitable room may not be free at the moment you need one. Allow at least six to eight weeks for the assessment, visits and financial paperwork once a move looks likely. With only four homes providing dementia care in Nantwich, having a shortlist ready makes a real difference. Visiting while there is no pressure also lets you judge a home honestly rather than in the middle of a crisis.
