Friends of the Elderly Malvern provides residential and nursing care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we offer respite and short stays. Because we provide both residential and nursing care, people do not usually have to move on when their health needs increase. That matters more than it sounds. A move at a frail stage of life is unsettling in a way that is hard to undo, and being able to stay where you are known is one of the most useful things we can offer. Qualified nurses are on duty for those who need nursing care, so complex health needs, medication and care at the end of life are managed here. For residents who need residential care, life is organised around what they want their day to be rather than around a clinical routine they do not need. We ask at the outset how somebody has always lived, from what time they wake to how they take their tea and what they cannot abide, and we write it down so that everybody working here knows it. For residents living with dementia we keep the day steady and unhurried and we learn what reassures a particular person. Malvern and the hills mean a good deal to many of our residents, and families are welcome through the day. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see us.

- Care Home
Blossom House Residential Home sits in Malvern, Worcestershire, and we care for people who need residential support in a place that still feels like a house rather than a facility. The town and the hills around it are part of daily life here, and we get out into them whenever the weather and the diary allow. We support older people, including many living with dementia, as well as adults with a physical disability and younger adults who need residential care. Our team helps with personal care, medication, meals and getting about safely, and just as much of our attention goes to how someone wants their day to run. Company or quiet, early mornings or late ones, a favourite chair, a regular programme, a walk in the garden. For people living with dementia we work from life history and familiar routine, and we share that knowledge across the whole team so nobody has to explain themselves twice. Respite stays are available as well, offering families a planned break while their relative stays somewhere welcoming and properly supported. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable time. If you are looking at homes in Worcestershire, please come and see us.

- Care Home
Here at Howbury House Resource Centre in Malvern, Worcestershire, we provide residential care for older people in a setting that feels genuinely homely rather than institutional. We support residents living with dementia, those with physical disabilities, and people who need short term respite care, so our team has built up real experience across a range of needs and circumstances. We know that choosing a care home, whether for yourself or someone you love, is one of the most significant decisions a family can make. We do not take that lightly. Our aim is to make sure every person who comes through our doors feels seen, heard, and respected as an individual, not simply as a resident on a rota. Our most recent CQC inspection resulted in a "requires improvement" rating, and we want to be straightforward about that rather than gloss over it. We have taken the findings seriously and have been working through the areas identified, making practical changes to the way we operate. We believe in being honest with families, and we would rather have an open conversation about where we are and where we are heading than offer reassurances that mean little. Malvern is a wonderful place to be based, and we make the most of our surroundings where we can, whether that means time outdoors, visits from the local community, or simply taking in the view that this part of Worcestershire does so well. If you are considering Howbury House for yourself or a loved one, we would warmly encourage you to come and visit us in person. There is only so much a webpage can tell you. Seeing the place, meeting the team, and asking whatever questions you have is always the best starting point, and we welcome those conversations.

- Care Home
Cleeve House is a residential care home in Malvern. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. We keep things straightforward. People usually come to us because managing at home had become hard work, and what they want back is some ease. Meals they do not have to plan or cook. Help when washing and dressing has become a struggle. Somebody who notices when they are not themselves. Company when they want it and quiet when they do not. Residents carry on running their own lives as far as they are able, choosing their routines, arranging their rooms and deciding how much of the day to spend downstairs. We ask people to bring their own furniture and pictures, because a room that looks like yours makes settling in far easier. Dementia care here is built on consistency rather than anything elaborate. Familiar staff, a steady rhythm to the day, and knowing something about a person's earlier life. Families usually supply the details that explain everything, and we ask for them early. When somebody is unsettled, we look for the reason. The Malvern hills are on the doorstep and getting out is a normal part of the week. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and look round Cleeve House.

- Care Home
Wishmoor Rest Home is in Malvern, Worcestershire. We are a permanent home to older people and to some younger adults, and we also offer respite stays for those needing care for a short period or whose family carer needs a break. Most of our residents need help with washing and dressing, moving about safely, medication given properly and on time, and meals worth looking forward to, with somebody nearby through the night. A good number are living with dementia, and we let that shape the whole house rather than treating it as a separate wing. The day follows a recognisable pattern, familiar staff are around, people keep their own belongings and habits, and somebody who is anxious gets company and time rather than correction. We also support people with physical disabilities, where equipment, seating and access decide how much independence somebody actually has. Food is cooked on the premises and people are asked what they would like. There is somewhere sociable to sit and somewhere quiet, the garden and the hills are worth having, and visitors do not need an appointment. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please arrange to come and see us and talk to whoever is on duty.

- Care Home
We at Hastings Residential Care Home are proud to offer warm, person centred residential care in the beautiful spa town of Malvern, Worcestershire. Nestled within the West Midlands and surrounded by the natural splendour of the Malvern Hills, our home provides a welcoming sanctuary where residents can feel truly at home. Our setting in the WR postcode area places us within easy reach of Malvern's charming local amenities, peaceful green spaces, and the wider Worcestershire countryside. Families visiting loved ones will find our location both accessible and tranquil, offering the perfect balance of community connection and restful surroundings. The natural beauty of the area provides a calming backdrop to daily life at our home, with the rolling landscapes of the Malverns providing inspiration for outings, gentle walks, and quiet moments of reflection. At the heart of what we do is a deep commitment to supporting older people, including those living with dementia, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments. We also extend our care to younger adults who require residential support, recognising that compassionate care is needed at many stages of life. For families navigating a dementia diagnosis, our team understands the importance of patience, familiarity, and consistent routines. We work to create an environment where memory difficulties are met with understanding rather than frustration, and where each resident retains their sense of identity, dignity, and personal history. For those living with physical disabilities or sensory impairments, we focus on enabling independence wherever possible, adapting our approach so that every individual can engage meaningfully with daily life. Our staff take time to learn the preferences, routines, and life stories of those in our care, because we believe that good care begins with truly knowing the person. This means families can feel confident that their loved one is seen as a unique individual, not simply a set of needs to be managed. We are pleased to share that the Care Quality Commission has rated us Good overall, with Good ratings across every domain assessed, including Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. This consistent recognition reflects the dedication of our team and the standards we uphold every day. For families, a Good rating from the CQC offers reassurance that an independent regulator has reviewed our practices and found them to meet the expectations set for quality care across England. We see this not as a destination but as a foundation from which we continue to learn, listen, and improve. Choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we understand the emotional weight that comes with it. Whether you are researching options for the future or facing a more immediate need, we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask questions, and arrange a visit to see our home for yourself. Meeting our team, exploring the environment, and sensing the atmosphere first hand often brings the clarity and peace of mind that no brochure can provide. We are here to listen, to guide, and to support your family through every step of the journey, and we look forward to welcoming you to Hastings Residential Care Home.

- Care Home
Elgar Court Care Home provides residential care in Malvern for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia. We also take planned respite stays. Most of what makes a care home a good place to live is undramatic. Getting up when you choose, food you actually want to eat, a familiar face on shift, and somebody noticing when you are quieter than usual. That is where our effort goes. Residents decide how their own days run, keep their own belongings around them and see visitors whenever it suits them. For residents living with dementia, familiarity does most of the work. The same faces, a recognisable shape to the day, and time to do things at the pace somebody can manage. We work with what a person can still do rather than treating a diagnosis as the whole story, and we pay attention to the signs that tell us somebody is uncomfortable or in pain when they can no longer say so directly. A calm unhurried approach prevents far more distress than it costs in time. Respite stays give family carers a proper rest and let people try us out without any longer commitment. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask residents and relatives regularly how we are doing, and the uncomfortable answers are the useful ones.

- Care Home
Springfield House is a residential care home in Malvern. We look after older people who need daily care, including many people living with dementia, and we also support younger adults who need residential care. The house runs at a human pace. People get up when they wake, eat what they recognise and enjoy, and spend their days in whatever way suits them. For someone living with dementia, that steadiness is a large part of the care, along with familiar faces, meals at expected times and enough time in the day that nobody is hurried through anything. We would rather adapt to a person than expect a person to adapt to us. Relatives are welcome whenever they want to come. Respite stays are part of what we offer too, giving a family carer a proper rest or supporting somebody through a period of recovery after a hospital stay. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. We were pleased with it, though we keep asking ourselves the more useful question, which is whether people look settled and comfortable here week after week. If you are looking for a home for yourself or someone close to you, please come and see us. Call in on a normal day, meet the people who live here, and ask us whatever you want to know.

The Chace is a residential care home in Malvern, Worcestershire. We support older people, including those living with dementia, and we also welcome younger adults whose needs are best met in a residential setting. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. The home runs on ordinary things done attentively. People get up when they are ready rather than when a rota would prefer. Meals are worth sitting down to. Belongings, habits and opinions come with the person and stay theirs. Where somebody wants company there is some, and where somebody wants peace and a newspaper, that is respected. For people living with dementia, familiarity carries most of the weight. The same faces, a predictable shape to the day, food and music from the right part of a life, and staff who do not hurry or correct. Families often hold the piece of knowledge that turns a hard week around, so we ask and we listen. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather be straightforward about it here than leave it for you to discover. We know what was identified, work is under way, and we are happy to talk anybody through exactly what has changed. Please come and visit. Judge the home on how it feels rather than on what we write.

- Care Home
Evendine House is a residential home in Malvern for older people who need care, company and a settled place to live. We are a house rather than an institution, and the day here has the ordinary shape of meals, conversation, fresh air and rest. Our care is residential rather than nursing. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals, mobility and company, and we call in community health professionals whenever something more clinical is needed. We support residents living with dementia, and the things we rely on are unglamorous and effective: familiar staff who know a person's history, a routine that stays the same, food people recognise and reassurance repeated as often as it is wanted. We keep an eye on how people are eating and sleeping, because those are often the first signs that something needs attention. Respite stays are available as well, giving family carers a proper break and letting somebody find out how the home feels before any permanent decision is taken. Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Malvern
Requesting a care needs assessment
The useful starting point is a written account of what the person needs, produced by a care needs assessment. It is free, carries no means test, and can be requested by the person or by a relative acting for them. Assessment and funded support in this area are the responsibility of Worcestershire County Council, whose assessor will consider memory, risk, mobility, medication, continence and the pressure currently falling on family carers. Describe the hardest nights rather than the average day, because an assessment based on a good week understates what is actually required. A relative providing unpaid care can request a separate assessment of their own needs.
What the fees involve
Dementia placements are quoted by the week and vary between homes in Malvern, so the only dependable figure is one a home has put in writing. Ask what the weekly rate covers and what is charged on top, since hairdressing, chiropody, outings and some continence products often sit outside it. Where the council contributes following a financial assessment, the rate it pays may be lower than a home's private fee, and the shortfall has to be met by a third party top up rather than by the resident. People paying privately should still tell the council about the placement, because capital reduces over time and eligibility can be reconsidered.
Choosing between dementia care homes in Malvern
Reading the inspection record
Of the 10 homes listed, seven are rated Good and two have been told they require improvement. A lower grade is not a reason to cross a home off without reading further, but it tells you where to concentrate. Open the report, find which of the five key questions was marked down, check how long ago inspectors visited and work out whether the concern was about record keeping or about the care residents received. Reports on homes rated Good deserve reading too, since inspectors usually describe how staff responded to someone who was distressed.
Questions that reveal the quality of dementia care
Ask how many staff on each shift have completed dementia specific training and who delivers it. Ask what the home does when a resident becomes agitated towards the end of the afternoon, and listen for whether the answer is about understanding the cause or managing the behaviour. Find out how life history is gathered and where staff read it. Ask how long the manager has been in post and how much agency cover the home uses, because familiar faces matter enormously when memory is failing. Finally ask what happens if nursing needs develop, and whether that would mean another move.
Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Malvern
How many dementia care homes are there in Malvern?
Malvern has 10 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 15 CQC registered care homes in Malvern: 8 Good, 2 Requires improvement. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
Which dementia care homes in Malvern were inspected most recently?
Elgar Court Care Home (13 April 2026), Springfield House (29 February 2024) and Wishmoor Rest Home (20 December 2023) have the most recent CQC reports.
Can Worcestershire County Council pay for a dementia care home placement?
It may, where the person meets the national eligibility criteria and a financial assessment shows they qualify for support. Care needs are considered first, then capital and income separately, to establish how much of the cost the council will meet. Someone with significant health needs may additionally qualify for continuing healthcare funding through the National Health Service, assessed by a separate process. Where a person funds their own care, the council can still provide advice and information.
How do we arrange a care needs assessment in Malvern?
Contact the adult social care team at Worcestershire County Council and ask for a care needs assessment, which anyone can request for themselves or on behalf of a relative. It is free and does not depend on income or savings. An assessor will discuss memory, safety, mobility, medication and the help a family already provides, then set out the eligible needs in writing. Ask for a carer's assessment in the same conversation if a relative is providing regular unpaid care.
How early should we start looking for a dementia care home?
Sooner than most families feel prepared to, since the homes people rate most highly tend to have waiting lists. Beginning early also allows the person moving to express a preference while they still can. If a crisis has already happened, say so plainly when you telephone and ask how quickly an assessment can be arranged. Keeping two or three acceptable homes in view leaves you somewhere to turn when a room becomes available.
Which homes in Malvern offer dementia care?
10 residential care homes match this search, among them Blossom House Residential Home, Hastings Residential Care Home, Elgar Court Care Home, Springfield House, Wishmoor Rest Home, Evendine House Residential Home and Cleeve House. Availability changes week by week, so a home appearing here may not have a vacancy when you make contact. Open each profile for registration details and the latest Care Quality Commission report. Then speak to the home about whether it can meet the specific needs you describe.
What should we ask when visiting a dementia care home in Malvern?
Ask how many staff on each shift hold dementia specific training and who provides that training. Ask what the home does when someone becomes distressed in the late afternoon, and weigh whether the answer is about understanding or about control. Find out how life history is recorded and how it reaches staff on each shift. Ask as well about staff turnover and agency use, since continuity of faces matters a great deal.
What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?
A care home provides personal care, meaning help with washing, dressing, eating, medication and daily routine, delivered by care staff. A nursing home also keeps qualified nurses on duty and can manage clinical needs such as complex wounds, feeding tubes, unstable conditions and much end of life care. All of the providers matching this search in Malvern are registered as residential care homes rather than nursing homes. If a nursing need has been identified, consider nursing provision or ask whether community nurses could visit the home.
