About Friends of the Elderly
Friends of the Elderly Malvern provides residential and nursing care for older people, including those living with dementia, and we offer respite and short stays. Because we provide both residential and nursing care, people do not usually have to move on when their health needs increase. That matters more than it sounds. A move at a frail stage of life is unsettling in a way that is hard to undo, and being able to stay where you are known is one of the most useful things we can offer. Qualified nurses are on duty for those who need nursing care, so complex health needs, medication and care at the end of life are managed here. For residents who need residential care, life is organised around what they want their day to be rather than around a clinical routine they do not need. We ask at the outset how somebody has always lived, from what time they wake to how they take their tea and what they cannot abide, and we write it down so that everybody working here knows it. For residents living with dementia we keep the day steady and unhurried and we learn what reassures a particular person. Malvern and the hills mean a good deal to many of our residents, and families are welcome through the day. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
