About Us
Great Oaks is a nursing home in Bournemouth. Having qualified nurses on duty means we can care for people whose health needs go beyond what a residential home can safely manage, and it usually means somebody can stay with us as their needs increase rather than facing another move at the hardest possible time. We care for older people who need nursing support, including many who are living with dementia, and we support some younger adults whose needs are met well here. Respite stays are available for people needing nursing care for a limited period or whose family carer needs a proper break. Clinically we concentrate on what makes the greatest difference: medication given correctly, skin integrity, nutrition and hydration, pain managed properly, safe moving and handling, and acting early when a condition alters. Where dementia is part of the picture it shapes the whole home, from how we speak to people through to how calm the afternoons are and how we respond when somebody is distressed and wants to go home. The rest of the job is making this a good place to live. Residents keep their own rooms and their own belongings, choose when to get up and what to eat, and can have company or quiet as they prefer. Families are welcome at any reasonable hour. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please arrange to visit.
